tipping for room service

Hello,

We are from Europe and are not used to tipping.

This will be our second Disney Cruise. Last time we didn't use room service. Now we will surely do this.

But how much do you have to tip for room service ?

For a light breakfast, or snacks in the afternoon, I usually tipped $2 or $3. If you have dinner for 4 sent in, you may want to tip a little bit more. Totally up to you. :)

Someone posted these guidelines a while back. I think they're reasonable: For meals, $2 for the first person, $1 per person beyond that. For coffee or drinks only, $2.

I'm usually stuck with tipping what's in my wallet, so the person who brought us a late-night snack for two of pizza and the cheese and cracker plate got a $5 tip since I was out of ones.

Yep. It's a good idea to start hoarding your $1 bills for a week or so prior to your cruise.

I have always tipped $1 for every item that I order- I find this acceptable. I think $2 for drinks is a little exessive IMO.

We usually travel with a roll of Gold Dollars ($25.00). Easy to keep in one of the over-the-door shoe holder pockets and you can also bring a few in your bathing suit/shorts pockets for whenever you may need them. They tend to stay in your pocket while in the hot tubs :smooth: . Still kind of a novel idea but you should see the looks on the faces of those receiving them. This amount usually takes care of the carpark, airport folks, and our room service. :D

Just my opinion, but I tried this and didn't like it. I didn't like having those coins jingling in my pocket. I had no problems with a wad of $1's staying in my pocket. And I didn't perceive any difference in reaction or appreciation from receiving them over a more conventional $1 bill.

I last cruised Feb 2000....going again March 16 for a 7 day...anyway.....I thought I remembered a 15% gratuity added already into the drink bills????

Yes, but there's no charge for coffee or iced tea or milk delivered to your stateroom using room service. So you'd want to tip at least $1 when they bring your morning coffee.

Oh....Thanks Dave.......so, ice tea is free from room service??? I was always buying soda and beer:D .....but I could settle for ice tea and beer instead if I could get the ice tea for free......I thought I remembered that you had to get hot water.....tea bags and ice and do it yourself up on deck..........otherwise just free in the dining rooms...........

We used room service often on our 7 day cruise. I put an envelope with 20 one dollar bills in the top drawer of the chest that is right near the cabin door. I tucked the envelope under the clothes in that drawer. Then each morning we didn't have to fumble and look for the tip, it was quite handy.

I did the same with an envelope in our stateroom safe. We'd call for room service, open the safe and get out the money and we were all set before they got there :) We got room service at least 3 or 4 times. I usually tipped $2.
