Wow! I'm actually jealous. My friend and I started planning a trip to DW for mid-October 2007 and my parents (total Disney freaks :) ) have decided to go with us. I'm actually fine with this, but when I first started talking to my friend about the trip I figured he'd end up with some excuse not to go. So then I started wondering if I could do it all alone as I really need the vacation.

I'm 37 years old, not married (by choice) and child-free (by choice). I like my alone time, but I've never done anything like this alone before, mainly because I do have bouts of agoraphobia where I find it literally impossible to talk to a stranger, and because I'm directionally dysfunctional and can get seriously lost very easily. :lmao:

At any rate, the more I thought about a solo trip the more I came to like the idea. I figure at Disney World the getting lost thing is not an issue since all I have to do is catch a bus to the theme parks. DW is set up really nice in that way, I wouldn't even have to worry about getting to and from the hotel from the airport. The only issues would be if I "froze" due to the extreme shyness/agoraphobia and the fact that I'm not a fan of flying and have never done that alone either.

However, I am determined to overcome those fears and do a solo trip in the future. :) My trip for October with my parents and best friend is all set up, so I can't cancel that on them, nor do I want to, but I am looking forward to a solo trip after that. I love the idea of being able to do what I want to do and not have to accommodate what everyone else wants to do, and being able to just slowly take everything in - my dad is a "rusher", determined to see absolutely everything even if it means not getting to actually enjoy anything, and since it's my friend's first time ever at DW my dad will be determined as ever to make sure he sees everything.

Sorry about the rambling, just thought I'd mention this is a great site and I plan to utilize it for tips and ideas for my future solo trip. :)

I am "directionally disfunctional" too (love that term!) so my tip for you would be to not stay at the Poly or POR. I love both resorts, but they are very easy to get lost at. The signing at the Poly leaves much to be desired, and the paths around POR all look the same to me!:upsidedow Have fun planning!

Adventurer's Club is an entertainment venue/bar at Pleasure Island.

We have a free fridge swap in full swing and those dates are available for anyone who is interested. Sure is nice to have cold drinks in the room and not have to pay $10 a day to use Disney's fridge!

Go for it!:thumbsup2 I've always wanted to do a solo trip. I'm what you call a Sunday driver. I don't like hwys and so traveling can be a challenge. I love that everything is so easy for a Disney vacation...everything from getting to the hotel from the airport to getting to the parks is practically done for you!
I think that DISNEYLAND would be a great solo trip because it's smaller. You could easily walk from one of the nearby hotels right to the parks!
In the end, I always end up taking my daughter who is 21 yrs old with me because she and I just have so much fun together! I feel quilty leaving her out of a planned trip!

I'm new to the boards, though I have read them. I'm going Oct. 16 -25, 2007 for the Food and Wine Festival - my first time for this event, though I've been to WDW many times before.

I'm splitting my rooms during this trip and trying the DDP for the second half of my stay. I tend to eat on the run but this time, I plan to relax and enjoy the festival, the music, etc., which includes having a sit down dinner using the DDP.

I always go to SciFi - I think it's a great place for a solo. Any other recommendations for restaurants I should try while I'm there? Or things I shouldn't miss at the F&W Festival?:coffee:

Hi there, I can't recommend any F&W Festival events (as this year will be my first as well), but have you tried the Biergarten in Germany? That's a neat place...especially if you're traveling solo...they seat you at long tables with other people, so you can chat with others if you like. Plus, the food is pretty tasty. :)

im getting my yearly pass tommorow so i will be going to the food and wine festival quite often. best thing to do is start in mexico and just eat and drink to you get to cananda. i love the japanese stand australian also. anyone planning a meet ? i propose a " new to the dis" meet during the festival

What is the bounce back program?


People who were staying in a WDW resort back in Nov or Dec were able to book a pkg for early Aug-late Sept that included free dining. We had to pay rack rate for the room, buy at least a one day MYW park ticket, and pay a $200.00 deposit, but we received guaranteed free dining for the length of our trip. We were told at that time that the only free dining that was going to be offered for 2007 was through the Bounce Back Program. Quite a few people made a special trip down there just to book the free dining offer. It had to be purchased before you checked out and they checked that you were staying at a WDW resort. The dates the bounce back free dining are earlier than the dates for the UK free dining and the general public free dining and the check out dates are also later (Sept 29th).

I'm checking in Sept 29th, but will have free dining throughout my trip. I'm hoping that enough people moved their trips back to take advantage of the general public free dining offer that the crowds will be minimal. My mom was supposed to go with me, but had to cancel. I have to say I sure hated to call to cancel her and give up those free dining credits. If I had known I was going solo I might not have done the free dining this time.

From what I have learned, there will be booths set up with inexpensive small tastings and wine all around the world showcase. There are also many free demonstrations and tastings, but they are crowded. If you want to do one of the paid events, the Party for the Senses seems to be popular (& that's what we're doing). There are also everything from celebrity chef book signings, and simple pairings, to five-course dinners. If you want to do any of these, you should decide soon, I'm pretty sure some of the things are already booked up.

I love the last part about the not going at the end of Oct thread!!! I am brand new to this thing, (didnt even know it existed 2 hours ago!!!) and am still learning.... My DH and I are going down for a quick, last minute trip 10/24-10/27. We are looking for someone that has a Illusions or Wishes cruise already lined up that we could maybe get in on and help pay for. We are celebrating our 3rd anniversary (its actually Sept 25th) but couldnt go until the end of Oct. We have never been to the F&WF before and looking for tips there too. I love the last part about the not going at the end of Oct thread!!! I am brand new to this thing, (didnt even know it existed 2 hours ago!!!) and am still learning.... My DH and I are going down for a quick, last minute trip 10/24-10/27. We are looking for someone that has a Illusions or Wishes cruise already lined up that we could maybe get in on and help pay for. We are celebrating our 3rd anniversary (its actually Sept 25th) but couldnt go until the end of Oct. We have never been to the F&WF before and looking for tips there too.
