OK, so after reading a few threads lately on Dec 07 availability I am getting nervous about our Dec 08 plans.

We want to go Dec 13-20, 2008 (the week before Christmas) for DD's 5th Birthday. My concern in this, we are new AKV owners and there won't be all that many rooms avail in Dec 08 (just the Jambo house rooms is my understanding-Kidani won't open until the next spring). I will try to book there at the 11th month window...but with so few rooms available at my home resort I may very well need to book elsewhere (which is fine) but am I going to run into availability problems at the 7 month window? We won't be too picky about where we stay, as long as we get a room somewhere!

I think we'll only need a 1 bedroom and we could survive part of the trip in a studio, if need be.

Is all of December super busy for the DVC? I am thinking I should be booking day by day and praying.

What are your thoughts, suggestions, past experiences for that time of year?

Thanks!

We went in 12/18-12/24 last year and I booked an OKW 1-bedroom about 2 months in advance with no problem. SSR 1-Bedroom was also available. I didn't check on studios or 2-bedrooms. I think once you get past 12/15 and Choice Season ends, the DVC rush isn't quite as bad, until you get the immediate Christmas to New Years week. So I would think that you shouldn't have too much trouble, especially with the later part of your trip.

Good Luck!

For anyone booking a smaller resort of any kind in December, I'd suggest day by day reservations. If you do that, you should be able to get what you want.

AKV owner here as well, and I think that if you call 11 months out day by day, you will get what you want. We do not intend to use our AVK points to book December stays. We alternate between VWL and BWV for that, so we're not competition for you!

We bought into DVC for a specific purpose, to book 5-6 BWV standard view rooms for a GG. Even with borrowing, I wouldn't have had enough BWV points to do exactly what I wanted if they ran out of SV rooms for us. I did spend some time over a 12 month period worrying a bit...wondering maybe...but it all worked out. I really really think it will work out for you too!

Thanks for all the info and encouragement. I just got a little scared when I see all these Dec booking problems pop up.

It is funny, because normally we are relatively flexible about when we can go...but this is for a birthday celebration and our dates are pretty well set for that particular vacation. :)

Thanks again!
