View Full Version : Vent. Thinking of leaving the DIS

I feel so sick right now. I am thinking very seriously of taking a leave, whether it be short term, long term or perm from the DIS. An individual on another board, has pushed me to the edge on the DIS once more. I left the DIS for over a year, because of the actions/comments of certain individuals on the same board that has me upset now. I come to the DIS to relax and be among friends or atleast be in the company of others that love Disney as much as I did (do, not sure at the moment). This persons arrogance, and continual insulting attitude has me deciding between getting points/banned/whaterver it is this time if I haven't already been reported, to just walking away. I am also having a very frustrating time dealing with problems with my upcoming Med cruise. I came to DIS for answers and help, not to feel sick or aggravated. I am beyond words, and trust me, for me to be at a loss of words is rare indeed,

I'm sorry you are having a rough time with someone. Is it just one person? You could block the person or people so you wouldn't see their post. Click on User CP and on the bottom left of the control panel is a buddy / ignore link add the person to the second box and click save and you will not have to deal with these people. Why let them enjoy the Dis and not you.
I hope you have a better day
:hippie:
I have to agree with the last post--why let them enjoy DIS and not you? That gives them the power over you and they win. I have probably read the things that upset you and they upset me too but I figure they aren't worth my time stressing over and I am going to enjoy these boards and Disney every chance we get. We have as much right as any one else to be here. Good luck!! :grouphug:
Oooh, Stacey, I'm sorry.
You're right, of course, this community is a mixed bag, the really, really super (you all) all the way to the really, really frustrating.
Believe it or not I DO take breaks - I learned awhile ago to take them on a regular basis; I know they are shorter breaks than a non-mod might take (we're talking no disboard contact for like 12 hours, which some might see as just plain old HAVING A LIFE!) but they work for me and other mods will take much longer breaks when it all gets to be too much and then come back refreshed and renewed.
In any event, we'd hate to lose you forever!

I also would ask that you don't leave. I don't know you from Adam (or Eve) but I do know that the community needs all of it's members to full grow and live it's potential. I'm sorry that some people have taken it on themselves to hurt you but I would tell you that there are a lot of us here that would not want you to leave regardless.
I would suggest like the above poster (Hi Viki...nice to meet you) that you do take some time off. I'm on the DIS at work and when I come home I spend it with my wife and only her. When I come back to work the next day I start all over again. It's just my way of not compromising my life in the real world for my life online. Thanks.

You didn't say but I would also say that you can ask the mods of the board in question to look at the exchange to see if it's within guidelines.. maybe some 'correction' to the posting styles are in order?
And you can contact the webmasters of the DIS if you feel that someone is harrassing you in a way that the guidelines doesn't address.
And yes.. as a mod - I can assure you breaks are a necessity. I have one coming up in 21 days ... four days with no internet. How will I EVER survive!

and I think that's the kind of DIS-free vacation we would all like to have...

Why not just ignore the person? I've encountered some rude people here and frankly, don't have the time to worry about them as I have enough things going in in my real life. I just shrug it off and let them be miserable.

Thank you everyone. There are a couple of you who have sent me PM's - you know who you are, that truly made me feel better. As well as the comments here, and taking the past 36/48 hours offline have helped.
I think I just reached the overload point. And I thank you all for your support. Yes I was frustrated with all screw ups DCL put us through, and I had other major stressors this week. Cayla (Padalyn) had to rush her cat to the vet on Monday, and yesterday she had the make the heart wrenching decison to put Merlyn down. Not a way I would recommend to start your vacation. I have been going through the job search rejection depression. I am tired of the your over qualified responee. I am looking for a PT job to supplemnet my income and to get benefits, as I own a small business. They dont seem to get I want a low responsibilty job, as I have enough of it with stained glass business. Also as a small business owner I am feeling the financial pressures from the Med Cruise- not only is it a money pit of a cruise, when I vacation I close my shop as I am a one person operation. I always keep my eyes open for a FT position in my field, as I do miss the money I made working for someone else. But I love the piece of mind and freedom of working for myself. And now I'm :sad1: sad , I just took the two most important women in my life to the airport, and I wont see them for 2 weeks.:scared: I took my other half (padalyn) and my Mom to the airport. They are room mates on the Transatlantic cruise. But I'll be joing them in Barcelona in 2 weeks for the Med cruise. I am just going to have to spend a lot of time in the studio to keep busy.

Well glad you're feeling better and -
glad you're not going to let one schmuck run you out of the DIS.
And hey! Barcelona! Wow!
Turn that frown :guilty: upsidedown! :upsidedow

The other boards are no fun, just stick with this one!!!
Although I guess the general boards and rumors can be fun to watch, but it's like the zoo. You're better off on the other side of the bars!!

Tiggr (and everyone else) --
Please don't leave. I read only a few boards (Resorts, G&L, Rumors) and love the camaraderie and tips that people share. But I also take everything with a grain of salt. I dismiss those who are ignorant, I ignore the uneducated and I certainly don’t read everything.
The Moderators are amazing, and I must applaud them for all they do. I don’t think I could police the DISers and want to go running through the streets like a madman.
So, thank you all for the fun. But please don’t leave.

tigrr33, I'm hoping that a break from here will be all you need. Then you can return renewed and refreshed and share some more photos of the wonderful work you do.
You know as well as I do, that there are all sorts of hateful, mean spirited people in this world. There always will be. I'm sorry you've been on the receiving end of that sort of person's ignorance.
Focus on the fun you are going to have in Barcelona and don't even give ignorant twits one single speck of your energy. {{{tigrr33}}}

Yo chica, you leave the DIS, you aint too far for me to stop by for a hair pulling fight. At the most, take a break. At the least, know that you're a better person than that complete and total self righteous mook you are referring to.

You are. I have to say all the mod's (plus Rick) that I've dealt with in the past week or so truly stepped up to the plate. I know you don't have an easy job, and other then here on our LGBT board, it can be a war zone out there. Your behind the scenes work is appreciated. I've been on the DIS quite a while and have seen alot of changes since I joined. I remember the days of censorship and favortism. I have seen the good of the DIS community this past week. Other then the one idiot (I mean disturbed individual) I had an outpouring of support - to all of you thank you.
