My sister and I will be there September 21st-29th at POFQ. Also doing MNSSHP 2nd year in a row-we had such fun there last year(halloween is a big holiday in our family)that we had to do it again. Now, we just have to figure out what costumes we're doing this year(we were pirates last year)-something cool and lightweight, because it's still hot there in September.

I'll be there from Sept. 16th-23rd with my SO and my Mom. We are staying at Coronado Springs.

It's my first trip, my Mom's first "real" trip (she went to Epcot for one day while at a conference) and SO's first trip as an adult.

We went to DLR last October for a week and loved it so much we plan to do a Disney trip once a year if we can swing it!

My wife and I would be interested in meeting up with everyone. We're actually staying a Pop Century, so we'll definitely be at that one. However, I'm fairly new to the boards so if someone could link me in the right direction or let me know what the DISmeet and Mojito Party is about, it'd be helpful. Thanks!

Hi all,

Going solo to WDW Sept. 1-5 and staying at POP.

*I have an IllumiNations Cruise booked for Monday, Sept. 3 and would love company! I am trying to fill the boat so that it will cost only $30 per person.

*I am dining at Spoodles on Monday and would love a dinner companion.

*I am dining at Narcooses on Tuesday and would love a dinner companion.

I am 39, live in NJ, married with 3 kids. I love to scrapbook and anything DISNEY!

I was supposed to be staying at AS Music with my mom Sept 29th-Oct 7th (free dining via the Bounce Back Program). However, she canceled on me yesterday. So it looks like I'll be solo. That's fine except I'm now stuck with an extra MNSSHP ticket for the 30th and all my ADRs are for two people. I can't decide whether to call to try to change them or just show up solo and tell them she couldn't make it. I have ADRs for:

9/29 Le Cellier
9/30 Chef Mickey's
10/01 Wolfgang Pucks
10/02 Mama Melrose FDP
10/03 Chef de France
10/04 'Ohana
10/05 Whispering Canyon
10/06 Spoodles

I know I'm going to have to call and get her off the room ressie before my 45 days is up. I sure hate to lose those free dining credits though. Unfortunately the rest of my family is not interested in going.

OK, I've been puzzling about this long enough; what is this pin-thing everybody is talking about? All I can think about is a pin like we know it (a bigger picture or figurine of something on a sharp needle), and people trading them??? Can anybody explain this?

I, like a lot of others, collect Disney pins. There is an event in September at EPCOT that lasts from September 7th through September 9th. There will be all kinds of activities, the option to buy special event only items, and usually a couple of auctions. Its a lot of fun and you get to meet others that collect the same thing. We like to trade with each other. Maybe I love those West Coast pins, but live in the East so I would try to trade for the pins that I am not able to purchase. You should take a look at a site call Pin Pics. You will be able to see just how many different Disney pins there are world wide. :thumbsup2

Maybe you will join us!

Not only are there many people going, but there seem to be a lot of us going solo in september. Might be me, but looks like there are more of us solo-people than in other months?

Jamstew; don't be scared. I know I've got it easy saying this with past experiences of solo travel, but you'll be allright. Going solo has advantages that travelling with others (even if it's just one) doesn't have. Meeting others, more nice chats, not having to think about what others want to do, you move a lot quicker etc. And with the DIS you can meet enough people to combine travelling solo and doing something together if you wish. Best of both worlds!

"Scared" was a poor choice of words--"slightly anxious" would probably be better :) I travel on my own quite a bit and love Vegas solo! I think I'm just a little intimidated by the scope of the trip. I love the idea of not having to worry about what anyone else wants to do, but the purpose of this trip (and the next three) is to "resort hop" and find the "best" place to stay with my kids and grandkids down the road. I've told them it's not happening until the youngest is 40" tall and potty trained :lmao:

Thanks so much for including us on this one... I'll be at EPCOT on the 13th, but I'll definately try to make it over to TOT in the afternoon to meet everyone - I'm very excited to meet the people who encouraged and inspired me to do a solo trip to the world this year - I've read many trip reports - I even hope to do my own trip report this time around!

Being retired means that we have more time than cash so we just wait for a good deal and go for it!!! It is cheaper to do one big trip than several smaller ones ALTHOUGH we are going back this December too!!

hey muguet27: My best friend and I, early 50s, are having an all girl trip 9/21-27. This will be our 3rd time in 2 yrs. Said we would go somewhere else next time but could not resist free dining. We met 5 years ago during my divorce and shortly after hers. We have become best friends and travel buddies, trying to go all the places our exhusbands would never go! (including DW!) Would love to hang out with you girls!

I went on my first solo trip in May '05. I had never been anywhere by myself, had never even eaten in a restaurant alone. My family swore I would never do it. Up until the night I left they didn't believe I would fly all the way to Florida and spend nine days alone. You should have seen my son's face when he dropped me off at the airport. Up until that point he actually thought I'd back out. I was a little nervous, but had one of the best trips of my life.

I got up when I wanted to, went to bed when I wanted to, park hopped when I wanted, ate where I wanted to (including two character meals), went on three tours (KTTK, Backstage Safari, and Around the world on a Segway), took my time and just people watched, rode the same rides multiple times, used the single rider lines, etc. It was wonderful!!! Since then I have made solo trips in Dec '06, May '07, and will be doing solo trips this Sept//Oct and again in Dec. I enjoy my trips with my family, but treasure my solo time at WDW. You will be surprised at just how much faster you can travel through the parks and how much more you can get done. You can also eat at places your family would not be interested in. Don't be afraid to try TS. I had never eaten alone in my life, but it was not as awkward feeling as I thought it would be. In fact, some of the best service I've ever received has been when I've been solo. Carry a journal to write in or a book to read and just relax. Because you are alone, people (and especially CMs) are more apt to start a conversation with you. I'm fairly shy, but surprisingly have had no problem finding someone to talk with on any of my trips. I'll be solo Sept 29th-Oct 7th and have ADRs for Le Cellier, Chef de France, Wolf Gang Pucks, Coral Reef, Whispering Canyon, Tony's Town Square, Concourse Steak House, and Mama Melrose. I have no tripidations about going to any of them alone and am looking forward to it.

Everyone should try a solo trip at least once. Everytime I see a family having a meltdown I can smile, walk on by, eating my Dole Whip, be glad I'm alone and able to do what I want when I want, knowing I'll be seeing my family in a few days feeling relaxed and refreshed, instead of exhausted and haggard.

aubriee, what a lovely report. I imagine you have fun anywhere you go - alone or not.

I would never be allowed to go to DW by myself but I sometimes take a day off from being a housewife now that my husband has been retired a few years and go out to eat and to a movie by myself. Felt a bit odd the first time but now I look forward to being with myself. ;)

DH and I (both 26) will be at ASMu the last weekend of September, the 28th through 30th. We live in the Orlando area (about 45 min from WDW) and have never really taken a vacation to WDW due to proximity. Obviously day-tripping is much more common for us. But I just feel like I've missed out on something by never staying overnight. So we decided to try out staying for a whole weekend, just in time to take advantage of a great FL resident deal ($64/night at the Values), MNSSHP, and F&W. I can't wait!

tristessaFL, just think of how much stress you will have in not having to travel that extra hour and a half each day and then you will also have someone else to clean up after you while you go out and have fun. Be there as early as you want, stay up as late as you want!!

We are older and have often taken overnight trips to nearby destinations and it still feels like a vacation only without all the darned driving!!

Have a blast!

Yes, we have done a few overnight trips around the state here and there. It's nice to not travel far, yet still feel like you are away from it all. Not only that, but it's sooo much cheaper than having to pay for airfare! Just last weekend, we were in Clearwater, FL for two nights. Our main reason for the trip was to see the Red Sox play the Devil Rays on Saturday night. So much fun! We even stopped at Downtown Disney for a couple hours on our way out of town Friday afternoon. We ate lunch at Earl of Sandwich, bought a pin to commemorate the weekend, and walked around a bit before hitting the road again.

But I'm sure last weekend will pale in comparison to our Disney weekend! I can't wait!

tristessaFL, it seems that many things that are local to our own situation go undone simply because we think they are too easy and we will get there 'someday'. Miss out on a lot that way. One year way back when we were young and pretty near broke and dh insisted on a vacation I picked local places, packed a cooler and away we went. The kids never noticed the difference except that their butts did not get as sore and neither did our tempers.

There is a thread on the DIS where folks match up for the cruises and such. We did this last trip and met the nicest folks. I hope you do too and congratulations!!

Hi. I'm brand new to the forum and this is my first post. I'm hoping that this is what this forum and this thread are for.

I'm going on my first full-fledged solo trip to WDW in September; I've been there alone for quick trips before when I've been in town on business, but never a real, several-day-long, visit-every-park trip.

I'll be at WDW from 9/21 to 9/24, taking advantage of the Dining Plan offer. If anyone would like to link up for rides of meals, send me an e-mail.

Do any single women ever come on this part of the board?

Love2Tvl1
08-11-2007, 01:03 PM
Hi I'm a single female but I am probably not in your age group.
I stayed in the BWV about 2 years ago. It was a 2 bedroom unit, and was very nice, but had a very long walk to the elevators. I was traveling with my 92 year old father, and while I had requested to be closer, no amount of begging or cajoling would do any good. I found the magic to be seriously lacking when it came to accommodating seniors at WDW back then. The 'It's All About The Kids' approach kind of alienated me. I was not lucky enough in life to have any children, and I don't think I'm the only unlucky one by any means, so why does Disney tend to ignore the rest of the population?
I'm really looking forward to this trip, though. I've gone solo before and had a great time.:hippie:

My BF and I will be there from 09/01- 09/07 staying at the POFQ.

It will be my BF’s first time in WDW, and I’ve only been once 10 years ago. We’re both from the land down under so WDW is a little hard to get to!

I’m hoping he’ll enjoy it as much as I did the first time round – he’s a little weary at the moment. As a compromise I’ve promised him a round at WDW Magnolia Golf Course – where there is no chance I can beat him :)

My DH and I will be there September 1 - 9 celebrating my end of the year 50th birthday and my successful breast cancer surgery. As much as we enjoyed going with the kids, we really enjoy our alone time. The last time we went with one of our children, we took our oldest son for his high school graduation with his girlfriend (our youngest couldn't go because he was in Oklahoma wrestling). We were at the MK for Extra Evening Hours. At 11:30 they asked if it was time to leave yet. My DH and I looked at them as if they were nuts. We were 51 and 46 at the time and they were 19 and 18. They were tired and we had all this energy and stayed until the park closed at 1 a.m.

Hi SG/Linda, and thanks! Believe me, I know, and the other times I've been there have been wonderful and memorable. That trip was very special because my father had never been there before. He lives just down the freeway from DL in So.Calif., and was familiar with Disney. I was anxious that the trip went well and he stayed healthy. I was probably a bit sensitive over his needs. He's very proud and won't use walkers, wheelchairs, canes or any other assistance other than me.;)

Any advice on how to handle eating alone at the resutrant's!!:bride:

Just enjoy yourself! I find CM's are willing to be very talkative when they find out you're traveling solo (or not, if they feel you want to be left alone). I never feel awkward dining solo in a Disney restaurant.

Count me in the September solo club - 9/12 through 9/28! I can't wait!

Just back from a wonderful weekend at the World. I am tired and need a nap. So much for relaxing. I got the package that people are talking about for next year. Free dining yeah!! If you have any questions I will try and answer them.

Hope those of you leaving soon have a wonderful time!!

DH and I will be at Shades of Green from the 16th to the 23rd, celebrating our 9th anniversary on the 19th. It will be his first ever trip to WDW, and mine in 20 years.

I got back yesterday. What a great time! Going solo was great except for one thing and I'm pretty sure it's just a personal thing and has nothing to do with a "solo trip". I found I didn't like eating at the table service restaurants alone. I had made reservations for each day and ended up not using some of them - I was just kind of uncomfortable. Nothing CM's did, just my own thing. Anyone else feel that way?

I had no problem with the fast food meals. I loved sitting outside (even in the heat) and watching people while I ate.

Maybe I'll put together a little trip report. I sure had fun, met a few interesting people made some interesting observations and simply enjoyed my Disney vacation better than I expected!

I leave in a few hours from the UK - and its the eating out thing that bothers me most - its my first solo trip.

Will log onto the board tomorrow when i arrive to see if anybody has any good recommendations - cant get email whilst over there - but should be able to communicate via the board.

Hi

Arrived at Best Western Lakeside approx 4 hours ago. Was given a room in block 10 - it was terrible - plumbing did not work - wireless did not work and mold on walls.

Called reception - been moved to a lakeside room in block 4 and its brilliant !!

Dave, Kissimmee , USA (well for 9 days anyways)

I also went solo, got back last week. The only sit down restaurant I ate alone in, was Boma. I ate there 3 times alone, and felt fine. Maybe eating at buffet restaurants are different. :confused3 I ate the first part of my meal alone at Crystal Palace. The person I was supposed to meet was running late. But before she got there, I felt fine.

I had a great time on my trip, and I'm almost finished writing my trip report. The link is below in my siggie. Take a look, and let me know what you think!
