Do 14 and 10 year old boys need to wear a jacket for formal night? Thanks for all your help!

My son was 11 when we cruised, and he did not own a jacket. I didn't feel it was worth the expense to buy one when he would not be wearing it again and would likely outgrown it even sooner...on formal nights he wore dress pants, a dress shirt and a tie and he looked very handsome. He fit in well with everyone else and we got some great pix. If you already had a jacket, I would certainly bring it, but I didn't think it was worth buying one for the cruise.

My son is 11 and wore a nice button down shirt, tie & dress slacks last year for formal night on the 3-night cruise .. this year we're going on the 7 night and I'm springing for the tux (it's actually cheaper than buying him a new jacket that he'll outgrow). He's excited about dressing up.

Hi, avalon. Welcome to the DIS boards.

Neither boy really "needs" to wear a jacket... particularly the 10-year old. But the 14-year-old may end up wanting to (with or without a tie). He may feel underdressed without one, and he's likely at an age where image is very important. Plus, he'll look really cool in the family photos that you'll take on formal nights.

Have fun!
