I was given an Orchid for my birthday, how do I care for it? I tend to kill most plants but I would like this one to survive if possible :)
Help! :goodvibes

Just a thought if you have a cat keep it away from the orchid they are highly poisonous to cats.

When we had our house inspected before we had our cats they spotted our orchids in the back garden and told us to get rid of them. i must admit i didn't realise how many plants are deadly to animals until i started reading up about it.

My mum has got a couple of them, I will ask her for some advice later for you. :goodvibes Dm nursed her friends sick one back to life and one thing I can remember is that even if it looks dead its probably not, you just need to keep caring for it and eventually new shoots will grow.

I have managed to kill off 3 runner bean sprouts:lmao: my Dh said 'leave them alone' but I had to interfer and poke them back in the soil  they now cease to exist.
Good luck with the Orchids..just leaving them be might work!

I'm rubbish with plants but my inlaws bought me an orchid last year. I think they sort of grow in bark rather than soil and I just leave mine alone and water it about once a week while standing it on the draining board, apparentley you don't leave them in standing water so it has to drain out.
I keep thinking it must be much more complicated than that, try googling care instructions for them and maybe you can enlighten us all!!
