This is my first Trip Report for a First cruise ever, so I will do my best! Maybe even add some photos once I figure out how to do so. We just got back yesterday and already I am dreaming of the definite next cruise. Not booked yet, but will be soon.
Okay, here is the Cast. Myself, Michelle (32) Mike my husband (36) and our two girls Morgan (11) and Maddie(5), our youngest and spoiled rotten. Wait til you see her photos!
First of all, we booked this Cruise this past February and even then, it was sooo hard waiting those 2 months. We live just west of Fort Lauderdale so we drove up Friday afternoon and stayed at the Radisson. Not bad at all, just uneventful. Checked in and got to sleep early enough. I did make sure we were on the list to hitch a ride on the shuttle to the port. We did not do the special "cruise rate" for the room. I paid the $100 a night and asked the desk where can we park our vehicle for the week. I was told where and given a pass to hang in the window and that was that. The next morning, I was up very early. I was very excited and could not wait for the day to begin. I knew there was embarkation photos, so I did everything possible to try to look somewhat nice. The shuttle came at 10 am, right on time. I also saw a few other families standing there with the identical green Disney Cruise line luggage tags. Got loaded up and off we go to the port. Less than 5 minutes later, There She Was! Beautiful and majestic. All the oohs and ahhhs and then we were unloading. The luggage porters work really fast, because the next thing we knew we were walking into the port, getting checked in and thank goodness I brought my "real" birth certificate. What I had brought was the announcement for crying out loud. I just happened to also have the "real" one. No worries though and we were given a Number 2 boarding pass and the off the the kids club to get the pager. My dd 11 had charging priveleges which she did very well on and she also had "free range" of the ship. Little Maddie had to wear her bracelet with her name and number on it. She was to wear this for the rest of the cruise and this is what they used when we checked her in and out of the kids club. After that, got some coffee and snacks at the little cafe and staked out some seat and all we had to do was wait! All this took less and an hour and a half.
Then the terminal started to really fill up. People were everywhere. I took some photos, and then a couple of characters came out. The first of lines to take photos started. I have to say though, in every line I waited in for characters and family portraits, the wait was never really long. Even though the characters took a moment with each child to exchange a few word, sign an autograph and pose it was not long at all. It was great.
Around noon, or maybe a quarter after, boarding passes number one embarked and then 5 minutes later, boarding number 2 was called. That's us! We walked and started the first of many hand sanitizing, showed our key to the world cards and problem!!!! My key to the world card name didn't exactly match my driver's license. My driver's license has my maiden name on it and my kttw card did not. So my family had to move on without me and I had to stay behind to fix that. No worries though, withing 5 minutes I had to show my birth certificate and was just advised to keep it with me in the ports just in case. Never was asked for it later though. I caught up with my family just before the embakation photo op. My 5 yr old refused!!! Sooo, we have our embarkation photo with little miss priss with a big frown and arms crossed standing to the side. Ugly! I will insert it later once I have it scanned. Come on kid!, we are on a DISNEY CRUISE! Talk about hard to impress. But that's Maddie. Typical!!:rolleyes:http://http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x217/mormadsmom/IMG_1449.jpg

How did you upload your photos? I'm trying to do a trip report and I clicked on the insert image button then copied the url from photobucket and when I do a preview it just shows a red X where the photo should be.

Okay, so we put our thing down to the side and group together for the first of many photos. Like I said earlier, Maddie refused. The photographer is obviously used to it, so she snapped it anyway. I purchased this photo so I can show her this wonderful memory of when she was 5. I guess not all kids photos have to have them looking like an angel.
So, that done, we walk across the threshold and were announced into the atrium. Some hand clapping and then we were directed towards Parrot Cay to the left. We were directed to a table by smiling cast members. We then went on to the first buffet of the week. Should have been starving! Mike and I did not eat yet that morning except for coffee. I had given the kids some granola bars and water for their breakfast knowing we would eat as soon as we boarded. I don't remember all that was on the center buffet table, (I think lots of cold cuts, hot bar, fresh fruit, salads, etc.) There was a whole table dedicated to bread, one for kids that had pastas, chicken fingers, rainbows of jello, and one for desserts. My favorite. I could barely eat a bite! Now I am a big eater, but when I am excited or nervous or sad I have no appetite. I was in the nervous excited mode. Didn't last long though, believe me. There were very attentive host and hostess. Your glass was barely empty before they were refilling it. Took away empty plates right away. Then it was filling up quickly. By this time we are done.
By the way, somewhere in embarking I had recieved a slip of paper letting me know our room would be ready by 1:30. We still had some time, so we traveled up to the top deck to explore. Took some photos by the Mickey pool. There were children already enjoying themselves in it. We walked around to the basketball/soccer area. Took more photos. The weather was a little humid at this time.
Now it was time to see if we can find our stateroom. Took the elevator down to deck 7 midship. Right out of the elevators was our room. 7544. The hall was corded off so we sat on the staircase to wait. Surprise! Our suitcases were already there! A few others had the same idea to wait a bit. Exactly at 1:30, we could go into our room. Another surprise! We had been upgraded to a verandah! We paid for a cat 8 and got a cat 5. I never paid attention to the small print in my cruise documents. We were very pleased and now would never do any less. Never thought we would use the verandah as much, but we did. When our 5 y old needed some down time, we would go back to our room. She would play with her toys and watch something on the many Disney channels and Mike and I would sit on the verandah and read with the door cracked. We did this many times. Sometimes we ordered snacks and coffee to enjoy out. Room service was ALWAYS withing 15 min. Impressive. Even when we ordered the night before Castaway and disembarkation. Our 11 yr was gone most of the day. She quickly found friends her age and had free range of the ship. Before this cruise, I was iffy about this, but once we boarded, I felt very comfortable with this. People were everywhere, the clubs were well organized in checking in/out. It was quite safe.
Next, sailaway and first night jitters.http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x217/mormadsmom/embarkpic.jpg

The flight out was great, but back was a bit exhausting. I purpously broke it up from CA to TX, then TX to FL. It was 1:55 to DFW and 2:20 to MCO. We got in late at night and stayed at the Hilton Gardens Inn. Going back, was okay but we were tired! If I had to do it over again, I would book a red-eye non-stop!

I know, I didn't get to meet about 80% of the DIS'ers. Whenever I saw someone with a green shirt, I didn't know if I should go up to them and say something or if it was just coincidence that they were wearing green! Perhaps we'll see each other in the background of our photos. I have to get some schoolwork done, then I'll post Day #1 on the T.R. thread.

Mormadsmom!
I cracked up at the embarkation pic! Our Olivia is the same personality. We waited and waited in line for Belle and then we get up there and she did a similar pose. Alexis is smiling away and Olivia turned her back. So the photographer snapped away, what could he do? Then Belle said watch this Mom and she slid over to the stairway and talked to her, no response, so Belle peeked around from behind and the photograher snapped, then she tried peeking at her through the stairway. DD bought all the pics as proof that Olivia acts that way. She has often said she is afraid Olivia will wonder why there are less pics of her and now she will know why. I do have to say that the girl who played Belle was incredible and we have some great pictures of her!:rotfl:

Thanks for the comments! yes, our Maddie is a handful. When she was only 7 days old, I knew what I was up against. It was going to be a different ride form my older girl. Morgan not only looks just like my husband, but has his quiet and more reserved personality. Maddie, (according to DH) acts just like me. You never have to guess what she's thinking! (or us):)

Back to where I was. We unpacked all of our things right away. For as much as we had, there was plenty of room to store our things. Enough drawers for clothing, room in the closet for hanging and putting away the suitcases. If you have a flat enough suitcase, it could be slid under the bed.We stood on the verandah and watched folks come up the gangway. Before we knew it the annoucement came on that the boat drill was about to start. On the back of your door, there is a map that tells you where to go. Easy. We put on our lifevests, told the kids NOT to blow the whistle and headed out. There cms with hand signs with letters that matched your lifevest telling you which way to go. We stand on deck in rows with shortest in front. There were some latecomers. Had to wait until everyone is there and cm's begin to call out stateroom numbers. When your number is called, you yell here and wave your hand and they will ask if everyone in your party is present. Then I guess you get checked off. We were shown how to fasten the lifevest correctly and that was that. I want to say 15 minutes tops? So back to the room to put them away in your top closet and out to where our Disboard group was meeting. Deck 10, but we were early so I was not sure where to stand. Got a spot on the right side of ariel vision. Forgive my ignorance of the nautical terms. Would that be portside? But hey, some people were already there and with their bahama mamas! By the time I saw some lime green shirts and leis, we were about 3 deep of people and there was no way I was going to squeeze out to go to other side of the deck.
Then there was the countdown! And of course the horn blasting "when you wish upon a star". The energy on those decks! And to think they've done this before and will do so again next week and the next after that. It was like the first time ever. Anyway enough of that. Yes, I did tear up a bit. There was loud music, lots of dancing. My dd 11 more reserved preferred to watch with dad, dd 5 hung on to dad and watched. Me, I 'm dancing holding on to the rail and singing along with "heyyyyyyy baby, I want to know, ohoh, will you be my girl" It was almost as if I already had a couple of bahama mamas. Now the ship is actually moving. Didn't realize it until I turned to look over the opposite rail just in time to see the cms from the terminal waving good bye at us with those big Mickey hands. Goodbye! I'll miss you! NOT!
Now we head back to our room to dress for dinner. We have the 5:45 dinner seating PLAPLAPL I believe. Originally we had the 8:30 seating but 2 wks before we sailed I asked for earlier. It did make things seem a little rushed, but I would rather it be this way. We would eat, take a family photo or get some princess autographs or go back to the room for something or other and then back in time for one of the shows. Also, our dining ticket were waiting in our room with our dining schedules when we go there. Making all the online reservations for Palo and excursions were a great help too.
Now back to our room and we are still sailing out of port canaveral. We stand on our verandah and marvel at this. We wave to folks eating at restaraunts, fishing, going by in their little dinky boats. Ha! and to think I used to be one of THOSE! We dress and head to Parrot Cay where we meet our servers Noel from India and Ion from Romania. They were both very sweet and attentive. We learned some magic tricks AND, here's the best part, they cut up my kids steak for me!!!! Every night, our Maddie had to have steak. And Every night Noel or Ion or even the head server Alessandro from Italy cut it all up for me. For you mommies out there and dads, you know by the time you cut up your childs steak your food has gone cold. Once I had to take Maddie to the bathroom and came back to find my food had been covered up. I don't remember what I ate, but I know I had creme brulee cheesecake. I always know my sweets. Kids had Mickey bars.
After dinner, we explored the ship and then went in to see the oceaneer club. Kids were everywhere. The first place our Maddie wanted to do was play the computer. Go all the way to the middle of the ocean and thousands of dollars later and she wants to play on a computer? So, we let her for a few moments. So we visit a while and head to our room to call it a night. By the way these dinners last about an hour and a half. Another reason to go for early seating. Mike takes Morgan to explore more and I am left to tidy up for the evening. Got Maddie settled in the bottom bunk after exclaiming over our towel animal and chocolates.
I step out onto the verandah and for the first time that evening I actually felt something like anxiety maybe? I could see ahead of us the Carnival cruise line light and nothing but blackness and water. I thought, gee, if I really wanted to leave right now, I couldn't and there is not a thing I could do about it. It was very strange at first being in the middle of all that vastness. That quickly passed though, DH brought me some dessert. Into bed and watched a little disney channel and lights out.http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x217/mormadsmom/IMG_1465.jpg

After a decent's night sleep, I awoke early. I think I slept pleasant enough. The slight rocking motion is actually relaxing to me. The only times I really felt any more than a slight rocking was standing in the tiny shower and towards the front or the back of the ship. Such as sitting in the Walt Disney Theatre or in Animator's palate. It actually reminds me of when I had just teeny bit too much red wine at dinner and you feel that teeny little off balance if you know what I mean.
So, dh and kids still sleeping, I decide to step out and see the sunrise. Only 2 other people were up on deck 10 when I was up there at 6:15. My little 5 $ digital travel clock came in handy. Might want to get one of those if you want to check the time when you wake in the pitch black of night. Someone was actually jogging the perimeter of the deck with her handy fanny pack bouncing around. CM's were cleaning the pools and decks and just another was up waiting for the sunrise with camera in hand. My,! was it windy! I could actually lean into the wind. I probably looked like one of those weather channel people during a hurricane saying "and she's getting pounded"!
I took my photo and said a little prayer and go down to wake the family. I'm hungry and want some breakfast.
Head up to Topsiders and join the line for buffet. Someone hands you a tray and then you are free to fill your plate. Fresh fruit, salami, different cream cheeses, tomatoes, eggs with mushrooms, eggs with tomato, eggs with veggies, mickey waffles, plain waffles, and pretty much every other kind of breakfast fare you can think of. Even an omelet station, though we never used it.
Since being an at sea day, we knew we had plenty of leisure to enjoy. There were so many things to choose from, we didn't know where to really start. Looking at the navigator, there was already things like paper plane making, basketball shootouts, trivia and things going on in the children's club. We all decided to go to "Animation" in the Promenade lounge. We learned how to draw Mickey Mouse. I saved our drawings for the scrapbook.
By the time this was over, our Maddie was begging to swim in the Mickey pool. So we head back to our room, (clean already), change into swim suits and go back to deck 9. Mickey pool was very crowded. Maddie splashed around and got upset bc she said she couldn't "swim". So lucky me, got to go over to the goofy pool with her where it was equally crowded and stood almost shoulder to shoulder with other parents and children. Oh well, what do you expect. Few minutes later, an organized game was set up on the deck and most of the children came out of the pool to play. Morgan was already gone by this time. She already met up with new friends her age in Ocean quest and now they are doing a pizza party. I have to tell you, there was something going on constantly that we ended up just going on back to the room after lunch (we had pizza and paninis beside the pool). At goofy's galley you can choose your panini and they grill it up for you right away. Ice cream is right there. Sometimes there is a CM there to dish it up for you, and sometimes not. You can sit and relax in the shade, eat your lunch and the kids can play with ping pong or watch cartoons on the ariel vision tv. That thing is huge!
Anyway, instead of joining pub master challenge, art of entertaining, cruisin' for trivia, diamond jackpot bingo, digital camera seminar, shopping ashore presentation, fruit carving, wine tasting, chip it golf, racing Mr. Toad, or going the martini art auction, or going to see one of a couple of movies playing in buena vista theatre, we went to our room to read on the verandah. We put our feet up, read and just chatted to each other and marveled at the sea. We live 20 minutes from Hollywood Beach and it's still awesome to us.
It seemed like time flew by while we were relaxing. Soon, it was time to get gussied up. It' Formal night and we were eating at Lumieres. Maddie of course gave me quite a fuss. She did not want to wear that frilly, flowery, pink confection I call a dress, but by gosh she was gonna. Can you tell I'm originally from the south? Yes, I was born and bred in the Carolinas! At least DH knew not to argue with me. I knew there was portrait taking. Times are listed in the navigator. If you go in shutters, they have next days backdrop examples up. Anyway, everyone dressed up and looking good! Except for me. In my rush to perfect everyone, I ran out of time and did not get to hot roll my hair. Yes, hair is important! Even if I spent 45 minutes fixing my hair and it gets mussed up one second standing out on deck 9.
Lumieres is good. Everyone looked so nicely dressed. Saw quite a few gowns and tuxedos. I think I ate beef tenderloin with asparagus. Don't remember what dh had. Girls had steak, cut up at the table again. I do know I had chocolate lava cake. Could have ate two, but I did not want to seem greedy, but my dress was getting uncomfortable by this time.
After dinner we stood in line for family portraits. It was long, but it wasn't too bad at all. Standing there gives you opportunity to chat with folks standing around too. Family in front of us had 2 adorable little boys. One of whom also refused his photo taken.
We decided to walk over to studio sea where they are having a family dance party. This was so cute, but not a whole lot of people were there. Families were dancing and having fun on the dance floor. We stay a while and then walk over to WDT for the Golden Mickey's. It's probably around 7:55 at this time and I decided I wanted to get a sweater. So we get back to the room, grab a sweater and get back to WDT to find the line waiting to get in all of sudden got really long. Doors open and there are PLENTY of seats. We find ours, order some drinks and do some people watching. Seats filled and there in front of us was quite a few seat savers. I felt so sorry for a mom and daughter who was trying to find just 2 seats to sit in and no one would let them have the empy seats. I can understand if someone ran to the restroom or got up to get food, but saving whold rows? okay, enough of that. I just felt bad for them as it was still a good 10 min before the show was starting.
Golden Mickeys was cute. Our first. After it was over we went back to our room and ordered room service of mickey bars and island cookies and hot tea. Morgan was gone again with instructions to be back by midnight, settled Maddie in after exclaiming again over her towel animal and chocolates.
Will continue Monday, as I am off to camp out with the girl scouts this weekend. Next, I use the fitness center and get a massage.http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x217/mormadsmom/IMG_1467.jpg

Monday is another sea day for us, so we knew we could sleep in and get breakfast whenever we wanted. This did not happen for me since I could not sleep well. Must be from too much excitement I guess. I actually used the fitness center this time. I love to take my spin class, but I opted for the treadmill instead. Got to work off some of those desserts! When I got there at 7am, there were only 2 others in there. I chose a treadmill in the very front where I can get a great view of the water. All the treadmills have individual tv screens hooked up over the bars of the machine. I go to the fairly new local y in our area to work out and had never seen anything like that. BUT, when you are running at 5.4, it's not good to look out over the water. I actually could feel myself losing some balance. I don't like to watch tv either when I excercise, so I just stare at something solid. Good, ran my 2 miles, used the weights a bit. Done. By this time, around 7:30'sh, the gym is getting full.
Go back to the room, shower and wake family. Now the habit of going to Topsiders for breakfast is showing. I realize I am not going to make the massage appointment in time if I don't leave now and dh is still in the shower. I take Maddie up to eat and then drop her off in the club. Now, me time.
I never had a hot stone massage before, so I am definitely curious since I had heard such good things about this. I meet Wella who is this teeny little lady and she is going to give me the massage. So, when she steps out, I disrobe and am lying facedown on the table. She start with hot oils to massage in and used hot smooth rocks out of what I thing is a crock pot. At first feeling, these things are HOT! For one instant I think they are too hot, but if you wait a bit, they are just right. Yes, for an hour I get bliss. I could get used to this! It won't be my last that's for sure. After it's over, Wella does try to sell me some products, but I decline. Mainly, the cost of the products is almost overwhelming, the other is that I am the soap and water kind of girl. Do I really need to exfoliate everywhere?? Nah! I do wish I had used the rainforest room. It would have been nice to steam off some of that oil and take a nap in the chairs. I know it's 15 a day to use all you want, but if you had a treatment, then it is only for 8. Should have used it.
After the massage, I go back to room to shower and change and meet up with dh. We decide to go strolling and see what is going on. We stop by the promenade lounge and watched a little latin dance lesson. Had the drink of the day, (yellow bird I believe), went up to the atrium and watched a little of the art auction from the stairs. By this time its lunch. Maddie wanted to swim again (groan). Pool and pizza by the poolside. A little Ariel vision tv. Morgan is gone again. There is a pattern here. Honestly, I loved the sea days, and we didn't try to overdo it by no means. We made sure there was relaxing going on.
Sorcerer Mickey was in the Atrium tonight. This time were going to take a photo and then eat which was animators palate. Again, the line was not too bad so there was not a long wait. Maddie actually cooperated somewhat.
http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x217/mormadsmom/IMG_1525.jpg[/IMG]We actually bought a package of these. Dinner at animators palate was okay. I think I expected more, but it was still good. Don't remember what I ate, but I know I had the strawberry shortcake. Not good. I've tasted better. Kids had mickey bars again. There was a surprise at the end, you'll have to eat there to see what it is. http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x217/mormadsmom/IMG_1504.jpg
After dinner, we took the girls to the Treasure ketch where they bought little presents. Morgan wanted a pirate princess t shirt, and a pink skull and crossbones necklace. She and her friends were going to dress alike and wear it on Pirate Night, which is the next night. Maddie chose a Mickey and goofy pirate ship playset. I bought a couple of sets of scrapbooking kits. Very cute. Got the album to go with it too. Took the goodies back to the room where there was another towel animal to see.http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x217/mormadsmom/IMG_1527.jpg
Went to the Walt Disney Theatre to see Twice Charmed. Sat closer to the front this time. Very cute show. The girls enjoyed it. They say no flash photography and videotaping. Mike says these are my bootleg photos, but I disagree. I did turn off the flash before I took my photos and they came out not so bad. I did see the one or two flashed during the show though. After the show, we went back to the room after telling Morgan to be back by midnight. She was itching to run off with her new buds again. I guess spending the last 4 hrs with mom and dad was enough. Settled Maddie in after ordering Mickey bar, water, and hot tea room service. Very quick service. Hung out on the verandah to watch the moon (sigh) and listen to the water. Can hear the ariel vision tv slightly as it is just above us I think. Eventually we turn in and watch Troy's presentation on tv that we missed earlier somewhere. Very informative on the best places to shop, eat, and what to buy in ports. We had already received maps and shop address for everything. Because tomorrow is St. Maarten! Now the wheels are turning. What should I buy in St. Maarten? Jewelry, chocolate, rum? Or just a t shirt. Hmmmmm.http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x217/mormadsmom/IMG_1534.jpg

Thanks for the latest chapter - enjoying your TR!! Going on the Eastern in October and I love to hear the latest updates. Keep up the great work!!:thumbsup2
Great pics too - the show pictures turned out great. I just took indoor non-flash pics of DD7's dance recital. Really hard to get clear pics with movement. Yours turned out nice.

hey there, thanks for the comments. We DID have fun! And I didn't realize I looked so tan in the photos. Must be all the florida sunshine we get. We swim here year 'round. Water at the beach is cold in the winter, but it's still "swimmable". Sunshine is hot, but water is chilly.

Thank you for your report & pictures. You have a beautiful family! The picture of the whip cutting through the ocean and white foam is one of my favorite. I spent so many hours staring at that sight and watching the flying fish.
We had Noel as our Asst. Server 4 years ago. He was so good, one of the best! We have seen him every year and every year when he sees us he remembers us and comes over to say hello. He is amazing! I'm always surprised when a CM from years past recognize you and come over to welcome you back.

Thank you for the wonderful report and pics. Your family is very good looking, Little minnie looked adorable. Just off the western and looking to book an eastern for 2009. Please don't flame but do you know if you are able to smoke out on the verandah? Can't wait to read more.

Noel was very sweet, and to know that he has been doing this 7 years and that he remembers his diners is pretty good!
As for the smoking on the verandah, I am not 100 percent sure. We are not smokers, but I think I remember seeing a container on the verandah for the cigarette butts. Also, I know when we were out there, I smelled the smoke from someone else on their verandah, but then I am not sure if it is okay to do that.

Okay, now we are on Day 4 of the most wonderful trip to date. It's our first port and it's St. Maarten! In our room, we had received a guide with important info on where to shop and eat. The night before's navigator had the time and places for shore excursions. We did not book any excursions this time around as we were content to just walk around and explore.
I woke up just in time to see us pull into port. Must be something with the movements of the ship or even some kind of background noise I am not aware of. I think it's kind of like when it's very quiet in your home and you don't realize the fridge is humming until it goes into the quiet cycle. Anyway, I woke up Mike so he can get a look too. We stand out on the verandah to watch this since this our first "parking" and first trip out to the Caribbean. I noticed the sky was partly cloudy and sunny. I am trying to be optimistic and say to myself, it's probably just going to be a morning shower and blow over quickly. Since we don't have to be anywhere at a certain time, we did know that we had to shop early because there was to be a parade and that shops will close early. Still, we are not rushed. Again, we head to Topsiders for breakfast and it was packed! Everyone it seems wanted to eat buffet. The line was long, and I worried about getting a table. This would have been and probably should have been a room service day. We did get our trays, but had to eat at a table by the pool. There was plenty of room there, but it was very humid out.

http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x217/mormadsmom/IMG_1539.jpg
We go back to our room to get our cameras, bags, and stroller. Got a little confused as to where we disembarked. We finally found it on deck 1 all the way to the end. When we got there, they had a little water bottle set up where you can purchase the water for $1.75 each and brochures of the island. We presented our keys and walk out. Didn't notice any leg wobbles or anything, but did notice the drizzle of rain. We walked a few more feet, and it began to rain. There were others walking with us, and then a few more feet it began to rain harder and we began to walk faster. Not a rain coat or hat to be had and Maddie is getting soaked in her stroller. Surely it's going to stop any second now! Finally, we make a run for a small canopied area. By this time it is a major downpour. Imagine about 25 or more people huddled under teeny flimsy canopy. The ones in the middle had it better than the ones on the outside. We were the ones in the middle and then folks on the outside started to make a run back to the ship. We found out alot of these people were supposed to go on a dolphin encounter. It was later cancelled bc of the storm. So now completely soaked, we decide to make a run for it back to the ship also.
Once back, after dry clothes and hot tea, I decide to do some laundry. When I packed, I had no intention of doing any laundry. But somehow, I just didn't pack enough casual clothing. So, here I am hanging out in the laundry room. I had it all to myself too. Two loads later, the rain stopped and this time the kids did NOT want to go. I also was not planning this, but we decide to leave the girls in their clubs while we went out on the island. After dropping them off, we do the disembarking thing again and finally head out for sure. Mike is getting antsy bc he is worried that the shops will close and he really wants to get a watch. Instead of taking the long walk we purchase the water taxi pass for all day trips for $5. 2 minute boat drive and we are dropped off at the beach. We did not go far to find the shops, just had in mind where to go that was listed on the Disney approved shopping list. We had plenty of time to shop and take photos. The stores never closed and it seemed it just got later and later with the parade times so we never really had anything to worry about. Shopkeepers were really friendly and we found what we wanted. Got some things for the kids at Del Sol where they sell things that change color with the sunshine.
Did you know you can use the bathroom there for only 50 cents?? Yep, there was a little old lady who sits outside the bathroom with a table holding a cash box and paper towels. You pay your money and you can go in. I expected something grossly dirty, but I was surprised it was quite clean. You wash your hands and she hands you a paper towel when you come out.
We treat ourselves to some ice cream and walk around taking photos of each other standing here and there. With the Magic behind us of course. It's a classic, can't miss one of those!

After we are done taking some photos, we get back to the water taxi to get the girls and eat some lunch, because we were starving! On the same water taxi, we talked to family who just got back from jet skiing with their two young boys. The mom tells me as they were jetskiing around the parked boats they saw a man standing on the bow of his boat speaking on his cell phone completely nude! Now that's a picture. And I thought you had to go to the nude beaches to see that!
After we get our children (Maddie had a good time. They had done something called Eggsperiments and Morgan went to the arcade. I know in the kids club, they take the children up the buffet for lunch, so Maddie was not all that hungry. Morgan helped herself there when she did hungry.) Anyway, we still went to goofy's galley for some sandwich wraps and pizza at Pinochios pizzeria. After that, we got our beach gear and took the girls to the water taxi again. Morgan was $5 and Maddie was free. We went to the beach that was right off the pier. This was our first trip so we never went far at all and were happy with the beach that was nearest. My shoe strap broke though and now I am shoeless. Mike walks around to some shops to find me a pair of flip flops and could not find a single pair. By this time, the parade is getting ready to start. I told him never mind, I will buy some in one of the shops when we get back. I forgot though, that the stores are closed when in port. Anyway,we snorkeled and swam. The water was warm and clear. A woman sold Mike some towel backpack. One asked if we wanted our hair braided. Neither of girls did the hair braiding. Maddie, for one, would never sit for that and Morgan never asked. After an hours worth of swimming we head back to the ship.
We get our showers done and relax for a while. Then we notice the ship is backing out of port.http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x217/mormadsmom/IMG_1571.jpg

I can't wait for the next installment! I had a crazy thought while I was reading it... what if a parent was at the port while the kids were in the clubs, and the parent didn't make it back to the ship on time? I've heard if you do a non-Disney excursion and are late, they may leave without you. Of course, if my child was on the ship I would hope that I allowed ample time to get back. Anyway, I wonder what would happen?

Great trip report! I can't wait to hear more. I have a question, how did you like the beach right off the pier? I have heard some bad things about it but it would be so easy. Was there a cost and were there a lot of venders bugging you? Also, could you rent snorkle equipment? Sorry for all of the questions.

Believe me, it crossed my mind. But since we were not on any excursions and we were close it did not worry me. The ship did leave on the times listed, and I remember seeing people running to get on the ship at the very last minute. So, the ship does leave on time.

What kind of bad things? I did not see anything bad, but there were just a couple of ladies trying to sell things. But, we did like the beach. It was good enough for us. We brought our own towels so we didn't rent any chairs. Of course we don't know any better being our first trip to St. Maarten. There are nicer beaches I am sure. From what we saw, this one was clean and convenient. Much cleaner than the beach we go to here in Ft. Lauderdale.

I heard that the water wasn't that clean because of all of the ship traffic but I am glad to hear that you liked it. I do think some people were talking about snorkeling there more than swimming. It just seems so convienent to the ship!

On our first cruise, when we were about to leave port in St. Thomas, we were delayed in leaving. They called the same cabin number and name over and over again over the loud speaker. We learned later that the delay was due to people not back on the ship yet that had little ones in the clubs. If the whole family was off the ship they would have left without them but they try not to leave parents of kids on the ship alone behind.

Now that we are back on the boat, we are starving hungry and it's pirate night. I had always meant to pack some pirate gear, but just never got around to doing that. Our dinner rotation was in Parrot Cay that night, and we were pleansantly surprised to see everyone in "Pirate" spirits. The atmosphere was different this time. We were running a bit late, because all 4 of us had to shower right after the beach and still make it to our main dinner seating. One of the disadvantages of having early seating. I wouldn't change it though. By the way, we had table 4, which is a small table just for the 4 of us. I don't like where the table is located, right in the middle of the serving carts. I guess that's what they are called. I know that SOMEBODY has to sit there, but I still don't like it.
Anyway, the servers are dressed in their Pirate bandannas, and each of us had one at our plate. Like I said, the atmosphere was very festive, Mike and I decided to have a drink to start our dinner off. We both have the Captains Treasure which is made with cranberry juice, absolute mandarin and peach schnapps. Very tart and good. I remember what I have for dinner, because we saved the souvenier menu. Jumbo crab cakes, hideaway bay salad, and castaway chicken. Desert was white chocolate cheesecake. yummy!

After dinner, we walked around and got in a couple of lines for portrait taking. One of them was with Captain Jack Sparrow near Preludes which is located near the Treasure Ketch and Mickey's Mates. Morgan definitely wanted a photo with him so she and Mike got in line to wait. Of course she had to run back to the room and put on her key west pirate t shirt and get her autograph album. While they waited in line, Maddie and I did a little more shopping. I wanted some more scrapbook fillers and Maddie wanted to get some Goofy spiral pops. Later we went to wait with the family and had fun just watching others get their photos taken with Cap'n Jack. I think I am pretty sure I saw Deloreangirl from the other TR there too, because there were some couples and families with children all in their pirate gear. One family with their toddler son was so funny. The little boy was crying and the guy playing Captain Jack had all the facial and hand gestures down pat trying to pose with dad and baby. Their photo was taken and later we saw the portrait in shutters. We had quite a laugh over it, it was so cute. http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x217/mormadsmom/IMG_1596.jpg

After that, we walked around a bit taking photos. We watched a little family karaoke. There were not too many in there, but some of the kids are fearless enough to sing their hearts away. I think there was some pirate line dancing. The plan was to see Meet the Robinsons, but we got carried away with the character meetings and such. I know we went back to room a few minutes, and of course the kids were excited to see this.http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x217/mormadsmom/IMG_1582.jpg

I have not got the hang of night picture taking with my camera yet. I still have not taken the time to read the users manuel so that I can. I know from standing on the verandah, we were passing some islands I don't know the name of. I know we left St. Maarten around 7:30 and we were in our room looking out about 9. Soo, if anyone happens to know what island these were, I'd like to know. I just wish I had better photos.http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x217/mormadsmom/IMG_1586.jpg

Now after leaving the room, we went up to deck 9 to find a spot for the Pirates in the Caribbean party. Wasn't sure where to sit, so we sat near the jacuzzi where we ended up right in the thick of it. We should have gotten a seat in a chair at a table because Maddie fell asleep right in my lap. I ended up watching the party holding a 40 lb child sitting on the wood side of a jacuzzi. I didn't want to leave and I didn't want to pass her off to Mike worried that might wake her set her off in a tantrum. Anyway, I shouldn't of worried. The music was loud, people were everywhere and then even the fireworks going off didn't wake her at all. We learned earlier that it took Disney 3 yrs to get permission to set fireworks off from the ship and that they can only do it going between islands because the ship has to be at certain speed to do this. Nice!
Right after the fireworks, we go back to the room to lay the princess down. I think Morgan came in and asked if she could stay out since they were putting Pirate's 2 on the ariel vision. We let her on the condition, in by 12:30. After putting miss priss into bed, I HAD to go back out for some of that buffet they had laid out. I was still so full from dinner, that I was going to eat something again whether I popped or not. I couldn't do the fajitas or turkey legs even though they smelled so good, but I did get some dessert. And there was alot of dessert. I waited in line a good bit too. I did see some families get their food by the pool while their kids splashed around. They must have had naps earlier. I took my dessert to the room where I ate and crashed hard.

Next morning we arrived in St. Thomas. When I awoke, we had already been docked for a little while. I think I was so tired, I just couldn't wake earlier. When I stepped out onto the verandah, I could feel the sticky humidity like a hot wet towel thrown in my face. Ahh, reminds me of good old south florida. Feels like home. What I could see from the verandah, St. Thomas looked pretty. Earlier in February when I had first booked this cruise, I made online reservations for Palo, massages, etc. I also booked for a few tickets to Paradise Point. As I had read earlier on someone else's post, you don't need to do this. You can just walk over and purchase your tickets at a window for the same price. If you do buy the tickets through Disney, there is a meet time for everyone else going at the same time. Then you can take a taxi over. We were late for the meet time, so we just walked over ourselves. It was not a bad walk, just a hot one. Made longer, because halfway out, I realized I didn't bring cash nor my camera. While my husband waited in the shade with the girls, I walked back to the ship, sanitized my hands, showed my ID, scanned my bag, found the elevator, rode it up to deck 7, walked mid-ship to our room, grabbed the things I needed and went back. Found the family and started to navigate our way through the town. Lots of little shops in the area, and winding traffic. Also, lots of locals asking if we need a taxi. We crossed a busy street, pushing Maddie in the stroller and found where we needed to go. We showed our tickets and walked up a few flights of stairs. By this time, I think I worked off some of that Pirate Buffet I helped myself to. Wow, it was hot! I think we might have waited 5 minutes before a car? (I don't know what you call those) floated down to us. We hopped on with a couple of other folks from another cruise ship parked in front of the Magic. It's a ship I have never heard of before. I was not even sure of the language they were speaking. Up we go, with a little ear popping and we arrive at the top in no time. Wow! What a view! I really like what I was seeing and we took lots of photos. There were not alot of people up there, and it was nice taking a breather in the breeze looking down at everything. I was trying to imagine the island without all the houses and streets. I can see what attracted pirates here. Lots of hills to hide in, clear waters, hidden coves for ships. Amazing. http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x217/mormadsmom/IMG_1643.jpg

I totally agree with your description of St. Thomas! It was prettier, and HOTTER! Those flights of stairs up to the cable cars were killer. I guess it was just the humidity. But the view was great, eh?! We also stumbled into people from that weird cruise ship. They were kind of interesting......

I can't even remember what morning we did the customs check in. Or was it called something else when you arrive back in US Territory and you have to file down early in the am to show ID? I do know it was quick and painless. We had to be down at the Walt Disney Theatre with our ID. We went by decks so everyone would not be there at once. It moved very quickly, but everyone wanted to eat breakfast at the same time too! But again!, I cannot remember if this was St. Thomas Day or Thursday our day at sea.
Anyway, after gazing at beautiful St. Thomas, Mike, the girls and I went to their little restaraunt area for pina coladas, (colas for the girls of course). The view from our table was out of this world. Someone else's TR described it as a postcard and I agree.
http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x217/mormadsmom/IMG_1660.jpg
After our drinks, we walked around a bit, eavesdropped on someone's tour and decided to skip the bird show. Hey, we live in Florida, we see these things all the time. Flamingo Gardens, Parrot Jungle, Metro zoo, etc. We even have them in our backyard sometimes. Not parrots, but monk parakeets. While standing again and gazing out at paradise, Mike and I were debating on taking the girls back to ship and taking a taxi out to Charlotte Amalie and do some sightseeing. We could see it from where we were standing, and just couldn't seem to find it in us to do so. I think we were getting a little run down. After all, we have had a busy week and just the night before was Pirate night which ran late and an early start and the long hot morning was probably getting to us. Part of me wanted to go, but the other part wanted to just slow down and relax. We still had time, so we headed back. We got some lunch by the pool and watched with jealousy at some ship mates riding on the Screaming Eagle. I really want to do that next time. They looked like they were having so much fun! The pool was not full at all and the girls were able to swim. Boy, did I see some lobster red beer bellies there! I think some people just do without sunscreen period, and when they get burned, they stay out anyway for hours.
After the pool, we go back to the room where everyone crashes into their bed. Except for me. As much as I wanted to lie down too, I took the opportunity to go back into St. Thomas to do some shopping. On my own. No kids. No husband. Alone and with DH's credit card that is. I thought for sure I would be the only one venturing back out since it was 3 o'clock. But I was wrong. There was plenty of people leaving still. And there was some leaving when I got back at 4. (everyone on board 4:30) I did not go far at all. Just to the mall area not far from the ship. I wanted to mail some postcards to my parents in NC. By the way, they got those postcards in 3 days which is much quicker than from here in FL. I saw plenty of t shirt shops, with the usual rum cakes and liquor bottles. I did buy some flavored rum. They are still sitting on my kitchen counter unopened. That's about it. I did not buy much. I went back to get my shower and dress for dinner. We stood on the verandah and watched people coming in at the very, very, last minute. I saw some running with their strollers, others walking slow dragging children, and taxis with others practically leaping out. Sure enough, one family got out of the taxi and not 3 minutes later the gangways were taken up. We did see a young family of 4 leave the ship just before pulling out. I have no idea what that's about.
The ship slid out sideways and almost turned completely around. I thought that was pretty awesome. For a long time, we stood out there and watched as we left St. Thomas. We took photos, and just sat there until dinner time.http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x217/mormadsmom/IMG_1658.jpg

Great trip report! Thank you for being so detailed. We just booked our first Eastern for next April and your report was the first one that I found and you have included a lot of great info.
It looks like neither of the two ports required tendering ... is that the case? You were able to dock at the dock both times?

There was not tendering at St. Maarten or St. Thomas. You just walked right off onto the walkway. Everything was so close. For first timers like us, it was convenient that we could be in a new place and not have to go far.
Thank you for sharing
thinking of doing an Eastern cruise and after reading your wonderful trip report I'm hooked

Everybody is now rushing to dress for dinner. Dinner was in Lumiere's again. I like this restaraunt, but it's not my favorite. I could possibly be where our table is located. Like I said earlier in my TR, we have table for 4 at Number 4 which is in between serving areas and never near a window or murals. But again, this is our first cruise and it really wasn't much to complain about. By this time, the kids are very tired. I thought Maddie was going to fall asleep waiting for her dinner. I wish I could remember what I ate, but I know it was good. Maddie this time chose for dessert a brownie ice cream and Morgan got the Mickey bar. I do know I had the oreo cheesecake with a layer of apples underneath. That was sooo good with the coffee Ion served me. By this time, I sent Mike to get his well being massage.
I decided a week before we sailed, to "make" my husband have a massage. When I made the online reservations, there was not alot to choose from. The only ones available were during the times we were in port and late in the evening during our dinner time. Because our dinners last an hour and a half, Mike would just have to miss dessert. He basically ate and left. Now, he grouched about this but he went. As he left, I thought about letting him know that there might be a sales pitch at the end and to remind him not to cave. But I really didn't think he would need the warning, so I did not say anything.
Morgan was gone again by this time. She inhaled her Mickey Bar and disapeared. Maddie and I went to see Cinderella. While we were waiting for her, Lilo appeared. By the time we went up for that, she was gone and replaced by Pinnochio and Jiminy Cricket. Morgan came by and got in line with us and when it was time for the photo, Maddie burst into tears. Again. She barely stood there with Cinderella.
Mike shows up by this time and informs me, he had a great massage and he bought something.:scared1: I am too embarassed to say what he spent, but he caved. And I was so good not buying anything after MY massage!
Anyway, after that fun, we headed over to the Walt Disney Theatre for Disney Dreams. It was Beautiful! I really loved it and can see why it's so many people's favorite. I won't give anything away, so's not to spoil it. Our girls were in awe to say the least. Their eyes were completely glued to the stage and I will never forget the expression on their faces.
When the play was over, Mike and I decided it was time for grown up time. We put Maddie into her jammies and sent her off to the kids club. She was not too happy with this, but she got over it. It was 70's night in Rockin Bar D. I think that's where it was, but before the 70's party, comedian Gary Delana was there. We really enjoyed that. Had a couple of margaritas and enjoyed his humour. There was good music, and of course the Village people had to pop in and everybody had to do the YMCA. DH and I included. It was fun, but it was getting late and time to get the kids. When we walked into the atrium, there was a dessert buffet going on in Lumiere's. It was so pretty, and the cm's were so polite and helpful. There was alot to choose from and even though I was still full from dinner and 2 margaritas, I got some kind of banana cream cake just for the novelty of eating at the Disney Cruise Midnight Dessert Buffet. Just so I could come back on my TR and say that I did. So there. I stuffed myself again.
When we went to the oceaneer's lab, I was surprised to see Maddie in jolly spirits playing with some friends. She actually did not want to leave. The CM's had put out mats with fitted sheets on the floor in front of tvs for the kids to lie down if they wanted. There a few snoring away in their pjs. This was after midnight and I was glad to see that there were quite a few kids in there playing and/or sleeping. Now my mommy guilt was not so bad.
When we walked into our room, I think I did some sort of taking 2 steps into the room and literally falling onto the bed on top of the sheets fully clothed and shoed. In a haze I hear Mike tell me he's taking the kids back to the dessert buffet. I know when he came back with more desserts (for me, even though I did not ask for any) I was still in the same position. I was semi-awake when Mike tells me "oh honey, look what I brought you". I reply with a muffled "stick it in the fridge" and that's all I remember. I know I did eat it for breakfast and it was good. I think it was key lime. Key lime pie for breakfast. Try it, it's good. It's not the first time I've had key lime pie for breakfast.
I am having trouble getting into photobucket. I will post photos tomorrow.

An error in my Trip Report here. The evening of Disney Dreams and 70's night took place on Thursday night not Wednesday night. This is what happens when you drag out your TR. At least in my case. It was all just one big blur of fun.;)
In my next post, I will TR Thursday, day at sea.

Great report, so far. We were thinking about doing the three or four night cruise, but after looking at the incremental difference in prices, I think we're going to aim for the 7 night cruise instead. Sounds like there's lots of things for the kids to do, although I'm still undecided about them spending their time at the club. Probably just a little copter-parenting, but all the reports are certainly encouraging.

Okay, sorry about the timeline mixup, but Weds.night, we must have just went back to the room and went to bed. Thursday, our at sea day, was our scheduled Character Breakfast, which we MISSED. I was first up, and just could not get anyone else to wake. I thought to let everyone sleep just a little longer and while they were sleeping, I would try to do just a little laundry. That was a bit of a nightmare. Like I said earlier, I never planned to do any laundry, but I did not pack enough casual clothes, (I don't know what I was thinking, but this WAS my first cruise and I wanted to dress up) The laundry room on deck 5 was busy AND the change machine was not working. So had to go to deck 6 to another laundry room where the change machine was working and there was a washer open. I put one load in it and ran back to deck 5 where another washer was open there. I put a load in it too. So. I had two loads going on two different decks. Good place to chat with others though. Someone I met at the pirate deck party was there. She was nice enough to bring coffee for us that was staring at machines. It was a rainy morning, so I think most people were probably sleeping in or doing laundry. When I was finally done, I realized our 8:30 Character breakfast was starting and the family was still asleep. We did get a late breakfast.
We went to shutters to see what's new and watch some of the art auction again. I think some people were bidding on some very nice pieces. Earlier, I had bought a miniature glass model of the Disney Magic for a Christmas ornament. The lady at the cash register said that Captain Thord would be there for signing at 1:00 Thursday. So, we waited in line for the Captain to sign my ornament. I found out his home base is in Plantation which is right in our neighborhood, not 10 minutes east of here.

There were alot of things for the kids to do. I know I had went into this not sure about leaving my youngest in the clubs too often. As it turned out, I did not leave her often just bc she has not yet learned to be away from mommy that long. I know it will change once she starts kindergarten, but I still had some me time, mommy and daddy time, and family time. It works great on a (Disney Cruise, which is WHY I chose this) If Maddie wanted to stay longer in the clubs, I would let her since I was comfortable with the Cast members in there. I liked the structure play and activities and there was still free time too.

Do you know what the yellow building was in St. Thomas? I took a picture of it too but had no idea what it was.
You little one is like my little DGD. She doesn't smile much for pictures. At least she took one with Belle that you can see her face. We have 2 of Olivia with her back to the camera. Belle tried hard to get us a pic but it was not to be but we bought the ones they took because they were so funny.

Hi There! Thanks Deweysmom! My girls can be so silly at times.
Floridagram, sorry for taking so long to answer. I think that yellow building was another shopping tourist trap thingy. I never did go in it.
Also, I have not forgotten to finish up on my TR here. We are in the process of moving back up north for the school year, so I have been busy packing and dealing with all the moving business. I am going to sit down and write up about our last day in Castaway Cay and Palo which happens to be the very best of all week. For me anyways. I'd say I am shooting for tomorrow!:thumbsup2

So, here is our last (sniff, sniff) day of the most wonderful vacation so far for us. We were not due to sail into Castaway Cay until around 9:30 that morning, so we were up early enough to watch us pull in. I remember standing out on the verandah and seeing land. Our room was on the right hand side of the ship, so I had this feeling of the "land" I saw was actually Castaway Cay, we just went up and around it. By the time I was out of the shower and packing the beach bag, we were pulling in backwards, so we had a great view of THE Flying Dutchman. If you haven't heard this before, but I will say it again, this place is awesome and I haven't even walked off the boat yet. My husband and I were snapping photos and seagulls were flying close by. I don't know if this is "legal" or against the rules, but the girls and I were feeding leftover toast from room service from the verandah. We would pull off pieces of the bread and throw them off the verandah and watch the birds dive for them.
As we were feeding the birds, some smaller speed boats came by with what I at the time took as locals. They saw alot us hanging out of our verandahs and began to whoop, holler and wave at us. One of the speedboats were the Parasailing company. Then we saw some ladies with their giant handbags coming to do some hair braiding. I found out later from the Parasailing guys that they did come from the nearby Abaco(right spelling?) islands and were (obviously) employed by Disney. Earlier in February I had made the online reservations for Parasailing for two. My daughter Morgan and I wanted to tandem parasail for the first time. Later on, we had the message that the company had resigned and there was no longer any parasailing. I was deeply disappointed, but just never went back in and changed my reservation for something else. So, I was very surprised earlier in our cruise, that I got 2 tickets delivered to our room for parasailing. I assumed that another company must have applied for the job and that is what had happened.
Okay, back to where I was. If I remember correctly, there were annoucements on the speakers that we could disembark and that later on that day there would be a disembarkation seminar in the theatre at 4:30. It was strongly recommended for first time cruisers. Anyway, after the announcements, I sunblocked my girls really, really well. I used banana boat spf 50 in the spray can by the way, and no one got burnt except for my husband. I don't know why. But he did quite badly too. I included into my beach bag some postcards I purchased in the Treasure Ketch with my dollard bills. A tip I picked off of some disboard members. Thanks!! When we walked out, we opted to walk instead of taking the tram. Already there were lines for some characters, Jack Sparrow included. I almost wanted to do this photo opportunity. It was right in front of the flying dutchman. These folks got some really nice souvenier pictures I'm sure. There was just no way our 5 yr old was going to stand in line in the hot sun for this. She was already complaining about the heat and the walking. The post office was right there as cute as it was. There was not but one other person in there mailing a letter. The postman could have used some fairy dust. He was kind of grumpy actually. I got my Bahamas stamps and mailed my precious postcards. 2 for ourselves and one to my parents.
As we were walking along the beautiful pathway, there was another view of the flying dutchman. So I took a couple of Morgan in the front of it.http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x217/mormadsmom/IMG_1734.jpg

After the photo, we walked on to the family beach. It was already getting quite crowded. I did not want to walk too far, so we plopped our things on the first set of chairs we saw. I don't know why we really even bothered with the chairs, we only sat in them for maybe 10 minutes. As soon as we got our little beach are situated with our things, I went over to the snorkel shack to get our vests which were free if you brought your own snorkel equipment. You can't snorkel without your vest and the CM's will shout in their megaphones to tell you this if you do happen to snorket without it. I went ahead and rented a float too while I was at it. I think these were 7 dollars. The kids were impatient to get into the water, so while I was doing that, Mike was ordering our drinks. It didn't strike me odd that we were drinking konch coolers before noon. But now it does, now that I am thinking about it. I read on someone else's TR, that their koch cooler tasted terrible, but mine did not. It was very tasty actually. I should have had a second. The water was chilly, but felt very nice. I looked on a map recently and noticed that castaway cay is directly east of us, so the water temp is about the same in late April. Still chilly, but swimmable if that is a word. Too bad we just can't boat over whenever. And too bad Disney does not float out of Fort Lauderdale. The temptation to do a 3 day just for CC would be just too great. Back to the subject I was on. Here we are, sitting on the shoreline, sipping our konch coolers and watching the kids play in the water. The water is crystal clear, the skies are blue, the sunshine is bright, and everyone is just sooooooo HAPPY!!!!http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x217/mormadsmom/IMG_1739.jpg

After playing the water awhile, Morgan decided to go find her friend. I told her to be back very soon, because we had a parasailing appointment at 12:30. The hour went by very quickly. There was island music playing and I know there were games going on. The night before, we got our island navigator and map that tells you the time for games, food, and character meets. I heard lots of Jimmy Buffet and Beach Boys. Before I knew it, it was time to meet with our parasailing time. Mike and Maddie stayed at the beach and Morgan and I walked back over the bridge. We brought our tickets and signed some paperwork. There were only 2 other people going with us, a mother and her teenage son. By this time my daughter was getting cold feet. We all got on the boat and sped right out and away from the Magic where the water was much deeper and darker. As we were going out, the Parasailing guys were getting us belted in and telling us that if there was to be an accident of some sort, they will have to cut us loose and we will just float down to the water and be rescued later. Okay, with that said, Morgan is getting even more anxious. She isn't quite getting to the point of backing out, but I am convincing her that this is going to be a chance of a lifetime, this is going to be so fun!, and you'll be glad you did this speech. We went first. It was very easy once they start cranking you up, you just fly up higher and higher. You can see CC and the Magic, the other islands, ( according to these men, CC is NOT an island but a Key) and this endless, endless deep blue water. It felt exhilirating and I will do it again in a heartbeat. Morgan was almost crying and could not wait to get down. We could see the men in the boat as we were coming down and they yelled at us to wave our arms like were flying. The ride was over in minutes. The mom was next and I got to listen with jealousy that she saw sea turtles in the water. Her son went next and then they gave us a quick ride around and back to the dock. My photos are on my waterproof disposable that I took up with me. This is still on my kitchen counter that I have not developed yet 3 months later. I liked it, Morgan did not.
Now I have worked up a ferocious appetite and am ready to eat! As we were walking back a golf cart full of Disney characters rode by us and waved like crazy to us. I think they were going back to the ship for their own relaxation after taking pictures all morning in their hot costumes. We returned to find Mike had bought little Maddie a pair Disney blue crocs. I said I would never let my kids wear those, but Maddie knew an opportunity when Daddy takes her shopping without mommy. We still have those, now with half a dozen  little disney themed charm thingies. Okay, they ARE kind of cute. Especially on her. We go to cookies to eat a great meal. We were surprised to see Ion, our dining server there in an island themed outfit cleaning tables. We spoke with him a few minutes before he was gone again. He really is sweet. The food was good and we got to listen to the live band while we ate. I think I hear "kokomo" a few times while I was there, so now everytime I hear it, guess what I am thinking of. After the delicious lunch, Mike and I let Morgan go off with her friends again, and we take Maddie over to kids area to check her in. We wanted to rent bikes and explore on our own for a while. It was quite a walk to the bike rental. You had to go past a game are, some more shops selling Bahamian themed products like straw bags, a hair braiding station, the teen beach. There were ALOT of bikes to choose from. There is definitely no need to pre reserves these. They even had bikes with baby seats and lots of bikes for children of course. Mike got the one with a baby seat so his camera can have a ride too. We rode past the adult beach, and then to the path where the airstrip was and onto sandier path with shade. This was very peaceful. We stopped a couple of times and walked into what might have been "restricted" areas, I really don't know, but we did go off the beaten path a bit to take some photos. This is where there was no developement yet. It was still wild and beautiful. Very picturesque. We got back on our bikes and kept to the path. We saw water stations and other folks riding along the way. On the way back we had a race. This might have taken up an hour. We walked back to get our kids and just relax back in the water. We knew our time was almost up.

I "think" 8 yrs old. I know for tandem, the combined weight had to be under a certain poundage. Also, I think I read that the person had to be at least 80 lbs. I must have read it on the excursion list on Disneycruise.com

After we get the kids, we went back to the water to use up whatever time we had left just to play. We snorkeled a little more, floated around, picked seashells, and just splashed around. Morgan found her friend whose parents already went back to the boat. We were trying to stay until the last possible minute, but we had the disembakation seminar AND we had our early dinner hour. Another disadvantage of having first seating. The plan was to send Mike to the seminar and I would get the girls ready for dinner. It was Parrot Cay this night, since it was the first place we ate at the beginning of this cruise. It was also our Palo night, so we were taking the girls to eat and then go to Palo at 8pm. They had already called and left a message confirming this. I think eating at Palo the last night is great, but doing the 4:30 seminar, having first dinner seating, pack most of our things,AND trying to get to Palo AFTER Castaway Cay makes things very rushed. Next time, we will probably watch the seminar on tv since we will not be newbies anymore to Disney cruising, and maybe do Palo earlier in the week.
Anyway, after a last look around CC, we pack up our beach junk and take the sad little walk back to the Magic. I noticed how messy the beach area was while leaving. There were empty cups, beer bottles, plates of food, and discarded floats and snorkel vests. I left my float on a chair, but at least I did throw our trash into the cans. CM's had been cleaning and picking up all day, but I can see where they were coming into the beach area and picking up everyone else's mess. It was a difficult walk back. It was depressing. And my feet were hurting bad because I picked up some cheap flip flops at the payless in St. Thomas and now they are bleeding. I still have those scars 3 months later. When we got back to the room, we all had to do some super quick showers. Mike first bc of the seminar. When we got back to the room, I realized we had used all our towels at the beach. I called room service thinking there is no way we will be getting any clean dry towels anytime soon. No way, when hundreds of others are probably doing the very same thing. We got our towels no less than 5 minutes. AND we had plenty of hot water even though the pressure was down a little. I know everyone else was probably doing the same thing at the same time. Of course there were some still on CC. Yeah, those probably had late seating. Mike got sunburned pretty badly, but the rest of us were good. While he is gone, the girls and I got cleaned up and dressed and did some packing. We had dinner, Palo, and our bags had to be outside our door before 11pm. Or was it 10? I cannot remember now. I also took this time to fill out our Tip envelopes that were left on our bed. Wow! It's "customary" to give 25 per person in the family for the main server and housekeeping. A little less for everyone else. I wanted to give the tip envelopes out this evening because I knew we would not be eating breakfast in the dining areas in the morning. We already decided to order room service so that we can just eat and go.
Mike informed me of some of the highlights of disembarkation. We had to have forms filled out and on us when we disembarked. We also cannot take any food with us. Something about how some people like to grab a bagle or doughnut on the way out or have opened boxes of chocolate. That's a big no-no. You could get fined and they are very serious about this. Everyone had to be OFF the ship by 9 am. They made it sound like it was going to be a madhouse the next morning and we were a little worried. Anyway, that said, we took the girls to Parrot Cay where we only ordered appetizers for ourselves. The girls presented the tip envelopes to our servers. We said good-by and let them know we will not be coming for breakfast. After eating, we took the girls to their clubs and rushed back to the room to dress for Palo.
Again, I was so rushed, I ran out of time to do my hair. Mike was so sunburned, he really did not want to wear his jacket and tie, but did anyway, because you know you are supposed to dress for Palo:thumbsup2. We even were running a little late, so I called to tell them this, and they were fine with it, come when you can. I have to say, I really, really liked Palo. When we walked in, we were greeted by the hostess and seated immediately. There was hardly anyone in there. We were seated at a window where we could see the last of the sunset and the water. I feel horrible that I can't remember our waiter's name, but he was from India and so very nice and professional. We started off with some merlot and appetizers of olives and bread. I got the calamari and Mike got the portobellos. This was dinner in itself and we haven't even got to the main entree. That was THE best calamari I have ever eaten, and I have had alot of calamari at so many different restaraunts. I know it's such a simple appetizer, and not hard to cook I am sure, but it was very good. We both order the filet mignon, even though I was eyeing the linguini. Our server ended up bringing us the linguini too. I don't know how he knew I wanted that too, but brought it. Somewere during this meal, he also brought us some kind of champagne shot mixed with a sherbert?? Maybe someone can help me with this. I drank it up too, it was so good. By this time, my dress was very tight and I was getting a little uncomfortable. We are also both on our second glass of merlot and getting dessert. And guess what?! I ordered the all famous, Chocolate Souflee. With Vanilla sauce. Our wonderful waiter thought it would be nice to also give us another dessert. I don't remember what it is, but it had pistachio ice cream with it. I ate that too. I remember eating with such relish, that our server asked me if I wanted more ice cream to finish off the cake. Sooo, by the time we were done, I was so full to almost bursting. Even though Palo was only 10.00 per person, we still managed to spend nearly 80.00 in there. Tip, wine, and the 10 dollars each. Well worth it, and still cheaper than restaraunts with that level of service and food quality. We haven't eaten so nicely since then. Except for Casa Juancho's, but that is another story. I have tried to make my own souflees at home, but that is something that takes lots of practice. After we eat, we stand outside to lean on the rails and watch what I think is the Bahamas pass by. Lots of lights, and very close to the islands. We are close to home already. We pick up the girls and go to our room. They wanted to order room service Mickey bars and cookies one last time. After this, it's off to bed.:sad2:

I woke up very early, because I can FEEL the motion of the Magic has stopped. All week I had been lulled like a baby by the ships pleasant rocking, that I could sense even in my sleep that it is not rocking anymore. In fact, I could hear the noise of the tractors loading things off of the ship. I step out onto the verandah where it is still very dark out and see all kinds of workers pulling out all of our suitcases, unloading flattened cardboard boxes, piling new boxes outside to go in and a fuel truck hooking up to refill again. The general atmosphere is only what I can describe as just plain sad. I watched for a long time. Eventually, I saw Carnival pull in also. I answered room service and woke everyone else up. I watched some more. Took a shower, watched some. I saw the Captain walk out and greet what I think are fresh Cm's. They were all young and good looking with small suitcases and they were handshaking with the Captain and getting on board. While I am watching, I see people leaving the ship. The family is ready now, we leave our tip envelope in the room since we did not see him anywere. I hope he got it. We walk downstairs and off the ship. It was a little chaotic. Lots of people looking for baggage. They are all color coded so it really was not bad at all. We show our documents and out the door. I did take note of the murals in the baggage claim. A tip I learned from disboards. They are beautiful!! They made me misty eyed and choked up a little looking at them. I knew no photos allowed, and that's too bad. They were awesome. When we got our luggage we walked out to wait for the hotel van. The mood was definitely somber. The ride was more quieter back to the hotel then it was coming. The whole debarkation only took 20 minutes. It was very easy, and very quick. Kudos to Disney for the organization :thumbsup2 course, I don't know any better being my first cruise. We ride back to the hotel where we saw other families outside with their luggage and green embarkation tags on. They asked us how the weather was at CC bc they were worried about their beach day. I hoped it went well with them. We found our car, loaded up, and drove on what was the longes 2 hours back home.
I cannot wait to go again. We are still talking about our vacation. The kids are still talking about the cruise.

I loved your report. Your family is beautiful and it sounds like you had such a wonderful time. I am taking the eastern cruise December 2008 so I really enjoyed looking at all your pictures. It really helped me picture the places I will be visiting.
