I will be walking all the time while in WDW. We stay at the park from like 3 till the closing, we hop to the last park opened or DTD.. we just stay out until everything is closed LOL. We go from ride to ride and are on the go all the time, 2 parks a day. So I don't know what to count that as for the monthly challenge?? Should I just average in something??

For me, I don't count my park walking as exercise. The reason being it does not get your heart rate up for an extended period of time.
Now that said all that walking WILL burn calories. Which in the end what matters.

I guess you never booted it from ride to ride :rotfl2:
but seriously, all that walking would burn lots of cals for sure! can't wait!

I would say it definitely counts as exercise, but how to count it is another question. Sure you do a TON of walking but it would be hard to accurately account since you walk and wait, run and wait, etc. But it definitely is a work out!

I don't know how you count your exercise. I wear a pedometer and every step I take works toward my goal.

Thanks! I am gonna do fine I am sure. I will be active all the time while at WDW. We don't rest other than sleep for the night. So I will just go and enjoy it! :cool1:

Breathing expends calories, so theoretically could be considered exercise. However, the reason why we think about and measure our exercise is because expending more calories than we normally would contributes to weight-loss and overall fitness. So what we really want to measure is exercise that you wouldn't do otherwise. We've gone to WDW for years, and regardless of how much we walk around we'd still gain weight some of those years. So lots of the normal walking around, while more than we would do if we were at home, is perhaps in balance with the "more eating" we'd do. So unless we're monitoring intake (journaling every calorie in) it doesn't make sense to me to monitor the "just walking around" calories. What does make sense to me is to monitor the extra exercise: Park in the back of the parking lot (if they'll let us) and walk instead of taking the tram. Spend an hour just walking around the World Showcase lagoon without stopping. Wake up a little early and do yoga out by Crescent Lake. And so on.

I agree. I also think walking for the amount of time I do at WDW is much better than what I would do in a week at home. I will be on the go all day there. We tend to go from one section to another, we dont really stay in one place long.
I so can't wait :cool1:

That whole image of doing yoga by Crescent Lake brings back some really good memories. I think people underestimate the value of vacation as a time to really super-charge your exercise. While we like to indulge a bit on vacation, not denying ourselves some of the great food choices, I see no down-side to upping the exercise -- using the special venue and unique physical activity options it affords us, to the max.

Do you have a pedometer? My doctor told me to try to hit 10,000 steps per day.
