Hey everyone,
In response to another thread about the FIRM, I'm going to start a FIRM thread. Join us on your FIRM journey (or any other workout too).
I haven't FIRMed in a while, but it's my favorite of all workouts. Its the only thing I ever did consistantly and enjoyed. So tomorrow I'm going to pick a workout and JUST do it - worst case scenario if I procrastinate is Saturday.
Who want's to join me - Lets get FIRM!!!

Hi Melanie, count me IN :yay: I love the FIRM, and would love to have the ability to talk with others that love the workouts just like me. I find it a great way to keep motivated :cheer2:
I started back up with my workouts in early March to get ready for an April vacation that included a 4 day Disney Cruise and 6 days at WDW. My goal in the 6 weeks that I worked out was to lose at least 10 lbs. It was a TOUGH goal to reach ... much tougher than I thought. BUT by sticking to my workouts and being faithful to watching my calories and journaling EVERYTHING that went into my mouth ... I am happy to report that I hit my 10lb loss goal the morning I boarded the plane to Florida. :thumbsup2 Nothing like cutting it close ;)
I also managed to only gain ONE pound the whole 2 weeks we were gone. :woohoo:
Last night I did Aerobic Body Shaping with Allie delRio. I like that one because I find it gives me the best mix of cardio and strength training. Right now I'm finding myself alternating that along with the 2 total body workouts from BSS3 ... total muscle shaping and complete body sculpting ... every other day and then I go for a cardio workout on the opposite day. Right now I'm switching between Ultimate Calorie Blaster from the transfirmer series and Ultimate Fat Burning workout with Alison Davis. I just LOVE the kickboxing moves in this one ... especially after one of "those" days in the office
My next goal is to be down another 10lbs by 4th of July.

Count me in too. I love my FIRM workouts and have taken up jogging as well.
Today I am hoping to do Jiggle Free Abs and some jogging on the treadmill.

Glad to see everyone joining. I plan on starting tomorrow. Now I just have to figure out which tape I want to do- Oh the possibilities. I think I'll go with BSS1 or BSS2, not sure which one yet.

This board is just awesome. I'm looking on eBay to buy a new workout and wanted advise on what Firm DVD's to buy. I remember reading about a FIRM thread here a long time ago and thought I would log on to see if I could find it - and here you are. Yea!!!!
I used to use VHS tapes (The FIRM Body Sculpting System). It came with the box. Well my tapes just won't play anymore and it is the only system that's ever worked for me. I'm ready to try to start back up with it as I need to loose 5-10 pounds to get ready for the beach this summer.
Can anyone recommend a DVD series or even one DVD that I could pick-up? I'm really more interested in body sculpting than the cardio, but usually add the cardio in once a week (I'm trying to start walking/running, too).
Thanks in advance, and I'd love to join you ladies in this thread.

I like all the systems I have all 4. My favorite is the 3rd system because it is the most challenging. But if you are just getting back into it, I would say 1 or 2 would be great. 4 would be good as well.
Check your local Target, they sell some of them there.

Thanks, Cobbler. I was at Target yesterday as I'd seen them there before, too. I didn't see any. I have to go back again today, so I'll check again. I'm also going to check out eBay.
Thanks a bunch!

I was reading that thread earlier today. Thanks for the advice about watching it once first. I had started and got discouraged because I just couldn't follow along. So tonight I will watch it once through and start tomorrow night.
So I guess I'm in also.

Have been looking into getting some type of exercise tape. From what I read here looks like the Firm would be a good choice. But, has anyone tried hip hop abs? Billy's Boot camp?

I had a hard time the first time I tried my Transfirmer series (a year ago - gave up quickly), but I have started again . . . I almost have the hang of Supercharged Sculpting, so I got brave and tried Aerobic Body Shaping with Allie DelRio yesterday. The footwork was way too hard to figure out. Why can't they slow it down . . . or have a menu on the DVD which shows you the footwork SLOWLY.
I hear from everyone how much it helped them tighten up, but darnit, I get frustrated when I can't figure out how to do the moves.
HELP!!! :rotfl2:

HI. I've been doing the Firm for 3 weeks. I've been aiming for every other day. Then alternate with just cardio/elliptical/walking. So it seems I do 3 workouts a week. And I have 7 different tapes and have been alternating through them.
For the people who get messed up by the foot work. Don't stress about it too much. If it starts going too fast for you. Just do the steps you know. If stepping- just alternate steps, if on the floor and grapevining -just do that. Don't worry so much about doing every press step or hop or arm swing in the middle. I get lost all the time. And if I do I just keep doing whatever basic step they are doing. Then if they are adding say a leg lift every fourth time, I try to add that. That way I make sure I'm still moving, which is of course the goal, and still getting the same basic muscles worked.
Tomorrow morning, I'm aiming to do Jiggle free buns. I haven't seen any loss connected with these workouts yet. Maybe 1/2 inch off my belly. But I'm going to do it for a few more weeks and then take my measurements again and see!

I did Cardio Sculpt yesterday and lifted pretty heavy. I did 15 lbs in each hand for all lower body work and did 12's for biceps.
I am definatly building the muscle back up and hopefully it will start shedding the layer of fat soon.

Wow! 15lbs in each hand??? I only have 5lbs is my heaviest. Good for you. Are you very muscly?
I did Super charged Sculpting today. And the 10 min abs. Hoping to do another in the morning to make up for the fact I'll be away over the weekend. I checked out the Firm website and they recommend alternating the three total body workouts for the 10 workout noticeable results thing. So I'm going to try and focus on those ones. We'll see!

No I am not muscly :) In fact I still have quite a bit of jiggle and not the cut lines in my arms - the definition - that I would like to see. Hopefully all the muscle will start burning the calories I need to burn away that fat.

I'm wondering if I need to increase my weights. It hasn't been that hard for me. Maybe I should get some 8lb weights. I just don't want big arms. You know what I mean? There is a girl in some of the videos. I can't remember her name but she is in the back left corner. She may be Asian, and her hair is dark. She is way too buff and cut for me. I want to just have thin, non jiggly arms!!
I took my measurements yesterday, and since doing the Firm for 10 workouts/3 weeks I've lost 2 1/4 inches. But only off of my chest and bust and neck. Nothing on my arm, stomach or hips or thighs. I'm a little disappointed. As my stomach is bigger than my hips right now. I'm going to keep doing it though. Maybe 4 inches will fall off my mid section next month!!! :rotfl:

05-11-2007, 08:32 PM
If you are talking for the system number 4, that is Annie and she does professional body building as well. You won't get that "buff" with these workouts.
You sound like me, I lose inches from the top down. Bad thing is you can't spot reduce and the first fat on is usually the last fat to lose. I need to lose in my butt/hips/thighs.
It will work, I promise, if you keep at it.
I was at my best about a year and a half ago and I am 5'5. I was about 115lbs and a size 2 but very tone and lost a TON of cellulite off the back of my legs.
Since our move and school, I put the fat back on :( So I am back to my workouts. I need to get more consistent with them, much more and then all will be good. I would love to lose about 20lbs.

Hi everyone...as I'm planning my next vacation I've gotten back into the Dis and back on WISH...when i was getting ready for my wedding last year it helped so much to come here and check in everyday and everyweek, I lost 30 lbs with the support here so I hope to get back on track. The FIRM is the only thing that keeps me interested...I have both BSS 1&2 and figure once I get sick of the 2nd series I'll get the 3rd with the new TransFIRMer.
Keep up the good work! I'll check back in later with my workout for today.

I didn't work out yesterday like I planned. I had so much homework. I have 6 credits this semester which is a lot for the 6 week summer courses.
Today I don't normally do a workout since I have dance class for 3 hours tonight.
Sometimes it is so hard to get on track.

Ok, I'm back. Jeesh, it's amazing how life can just get in the way sometimes, huh? I had to make a quick trip to California last week for some business meetings and the prep and trip threw me totally off kilter :sad2: I'm getting back into my groove this week though ... on Monday I golfed 9 holes and carried my clubs on my back (burns about 1000 calories that way :thumbsup2 ) last night my oldest DS had a baseball game, so I was only able to do a 30 minute workout. I opeted for Fat Blasting Cardio with Lisa Kay.
Youngest has a baseball game tonight ... but we're expecting rain and thunderstorms so it might get cancelled. I'm hopeful that I'll have enough time for a decent workout tonight. If I do, I think I'll opt for Aerobic Body Shaping with Allie DelRio.

I'm getting ready to go do Supercharged Sculpting . . . I have the footwork down relatively well (;) ) on that one. Aerobic Body Shaping footwork was impossible to learn. I'm still trying. I think my 7 year old DS watching me is making me nervous. :confused3 I hate looking like a dork . . . even to family.:lmao:
I've also been walking (probably about 4.0 speed) for 3 miles at the park 4-5 times a week. I was starting to see a little loss of inches, but that has skidded to a stop right now. I'm getting so frustrated. I really need to go to the Y and seriously strength train. While this Transfirmer series works my lower body very well, it doesn't seem to focus enough on the upper body. Of course, at this point I have only "mastered" the Supercharged Sculpting.

Hi. I did the aerobic body shaping today. Plus the extra 10 minute lower body workout. And I worked on the elliptical for 30 mins. (I was in a rare exercise mode today!)
rlduvall, I know what you mean about the footwork in that one. I can't even try to get the box step down. Or the press, curve angle thing. I was making up my own stuff. Tried to go up, when they went up, or squat when they did. Anyway....
Good luck everybody!

Hi All,
I have the OLD The Firm videos (yes VHS- can you believe it, lol) My kit came with the fanny lifter (2 pieces-purple and blue) 3 tapes, Ab Sculpt with Lisa, Body Sculpt with Jen and Cardio Sculpt with Allie. I have all the videos and pieces, however I have lost all the paperwork that came with it. Does anyone have the 30 day rotation that came with this set?????
Thanks so much if you do!

I found some 28 day calendars for you ... I don't know what level you wanted but the Beginner rotation has you alternating Cardio Sculpt, Ab Sculpt and Body Sculpt in that order every other day for the full 28 days. The workout would look like CS day 1, Rest, AS day 3, rest, BS day 5, Rest, CS day 6 ...
The Intermediate workout looks like this: CS, Rest, BS, AS, R, CS, BS, R, CS, R, BS, AS, R, CS, BS, R, CS, R, BS, AS, R, CS, BS, R, CS, R, BS, AS
I hope that helps (and makes a little bit of sense). Let's see ... my workouts this week so far, golf 9 holes carrying my clubs on Monday, and Aerobic Body Shaping last night. I have to confess that I was working through ABS last night thinking about you all that were talking about the footwork. I had to chuckle a little because I STILL have trouble keeping up in some parts ... only recently "got" the very last aerobic sequence with the kicks and stuff ;) I think the key is to just keep moving :cheer2: OH, and I also managed to stay on my calories yesterday too :thumbsup2

You're welcome. Happy I was able to help. Last night's workout had to be a quicker one, since I spent a fair amount of time at the baseball fields. Both of my boys had games last night. SO, that meant 30 minutes of Fat Blasting Cardio with Lisa Kay got the nod.

I did Total Muscle Shaping last night. I wanted to do Complete Body Sculpting with Crista, but I couldn't find the stinkin' DVD ... I'm sure that the kids have it stuck in one of their xbox game or DVD boxes.
Today will be a rest day for me. I had a hard time with the 9lb weights last night, so I'm thinking I need to take a break. We've got a really low-key weekend with absolutely nothing planned, so I think I'll be able to get some good workouts in over the 3 day weekend.

Yesterday I did Cardio Sculpt. I did 15lbs in each hand for all lower body work, except where you lean over the Fanny lifter and put a weight behind your knee. I only did 5lbs on that.
I did a lot of 10's and 12's for upper body.
Good thing is I am lifting back to the level I was when I was in my best shape. Now I just have to wait for that fat to melt away. I am also not pausing the video as much so I am making progress.
I also did my measurements yesterday. I haven't lost a single pound since April 25th but I have lost a total of 3.75 inches. I measure my waist, hips, buns and each Thigh in 2 places, mid thigh and upper thigh.
Of course I didn't work out as much as I could have but 3.75" is great.
I also did Express Cardio this morning and that makes 4 workouts this week!!
Have a fantastic weekend everyone and don't eat to much ;) :)

Keep on the lookout for the new infomercial. It was on lifetime yesterday (Sat) at 9am.
They look like good traveling workouts, no equipment required except for dumbbells.
You can check out this website to see them.

But I would order them from www.collagevideo.com when they arrive there. Much faster and cheaper shipping.

Ok, I am going to join in as soon as I can shake this darned cold. I had it last week and it has returned!
Anyway, I found 2 of the VHS videos at a yard sale.
But today I found the entire Sculpting System 1, still in the box and sealed (with calendar charts and all), at a Goodwill for $7. I bought it.
So, I have 5 videos now to use with it. I also have a stepper (Reebok brand) that I can use in addition to the Firm fanny lifter stepper I got.
If I really like these I may add to my collection, but this is enough to get me started.

It was Complete Body Sculpting for me last night. I'm at a point right now where the numbers on the scale aren't moving much ... literally like ounces per week :sad2: BUT my clothes are fitting better ... AND I'm able to get into some clothes that I couldn't wear months ago. For the past few weeks, I was trying to focus on cardio workouts exclusively ... but now I think I'm going to get back to mixing in some of the total body workouts. That always helps me feel better when the scale get's stuck. I remind myself that "muscle weighs more than fat" ;)
Cobbler, I'll probably hold off for a little bit on the new series too. Although if there comes a time when I'm frustrated and getting "burned out" from the routine I'm working now ... I'll grab them. Let me know if you get them before I do.
Dawn, I know the bar that you're talking about. I can't remember which series it came with either. I don't have it. Hi. thanks for the link cobbler. I went and was checking out the new ones. I thought it was interesting there was no step in it (It seemed that way anyway.) I totally haven't mastered the ones I have so I'll just be sticking to them.
I never checked in last week: Mon, Aer. Body Shaping; Wed, Jiggle free Arms; Thur, elliptical; Fri, Super charged Sculp. and elliptical-15; Sat, 1/2 Ult cal blast.
Then this week I haven't done much. Wed, ellipt; and today (Thur) Ult. Cal blaster. At least I made it through the whole thing today!!
Now that it's warm I'll be getting some extra exercise with swimming. My sis has a pool and I get to swim 3 or 4 times a week. Not too much but I count it as extra.
I've seen a little drop in the scale this week. I've been trying to be low carb. Really trying to keep all the sugar out of my system. I'll do it as long as I can and then do WW. I'm hoping to breakthrough to the next lower 10 lb increment.
Good job everyone.

I took the boys out for a swim in our pool this am for about an hour.
Then I hauled some wood from the fallen tree in our front yard up the hill we live on and to the house (we live on 2.5 acres so it wasn't too close)
THEN, I DID THE TAPE! I did 39 minutes of the total body workout before collapsing.
WOW! I am liking this!

Yep that is right!!! Clothes are fitting better and here are a couple of things that helps me when the scale doesn't move.
1 - Would you rather be 150lbs and a size 12 (numbers are for example) or 150lbs and a size 6-8?? Personally I would rather be a smaller clothes size, the scale can be our enemy sometimes.
2 - Yes muscle is more dense than fat. 5lbs of fat is equivilant to 3 grapefruit, where 5lbs of muscle is about 5 tangerines. Personally I would rather have those tangerines ;)
And the sculpting stick (purple on the ends and blue in the middle) came with system 2. Complete Aerobics and Weight Training. Total Sculpt and Maximum Cardio Burn.

Hi. thanks for the link cobbler. I went and was checking out the new ones. I thought it was interesting there was no step in it (It seemed that way anyway.) I totally haven't mastered the ones I have so I'll just be sticking to them.
No the new system doesn't come with the step or use any of the step. Which I like and dislike. Great for traveling (like) but I am sure getting tired of each new system needing a new piece of equipment and then it isn't used past that system again. (dislike)

Hay, where is everyone??
Yesterday I did Super Charged Sculpting and today I did Ultimate Calorie Blaster.
I have down 5lbs and 5 inches since April 25th. I did a guesstimate on where I was when I was doing the FIRM very consistently and I figure I have about 15lbs and 8-10 inches to go before I am back to where I was.

ACK ... I am SOOO off track right now  I haven't worked out in a week, only golf Monday night ... just finding too many excuses NOT to :sad2: I'm also not totally sticking to my calories per day.
How do you get back on track when you get derailed :confused3 I had a goal in mind of where I wanted to be by mid-July, and I don't see myself getting there ... I think that's part of my frustration. Someone, please kick my backside into gear :cheer2:

Hi! I know what you mean! It is so hard to get back on track when you need to. Last week I only firmed once and worked on the elliptical once. So, when Monday came around I said to myself on Sun. night. "tomorrow, I'm gonna get up and just get right to exercising." If I tell myself the night before I have more motivation in the morning.
As far as being frustrated. I've been stuck since January. The scale hasn't moved and my measurements haven't really gone down. I just keep telling myself that even if I'm not seeing anything now. It has to be better for me to exercise and eat right than not to. I do feel more energized and have less headaches than when I don't do anything. Don't give up! And maybe you needed a little break so you can give it your all again when you restart!
For me this week. I've done Super charged sculpt, Mon; Jiggle free arms - Tues. I also swam/played in the pool mon, tues and weds for over 2 hours. Today my TOM came 3 days early and messed me up. So I'll have to Firm again tomorrow and Fri.
Hope everyone is enjoying their summer!!:wizard:

You will lose if you stick to it, I promise.
It is hard when you derail, for the past year I was the QUEEN of excuses. You just have to get to a point where you want it bad enough I think.
What really helps me is doing it first thing in the morning, then I don't have any excuses. If I wait, I can think of a million and one reasons not to exercise! So get up and do it in the morning.
Also follow a rotation, don't just do what you feel like doing that day, make a balanced one up of Cardio, Sculpt and Cardio+Sculpt.
Today I did Fat Blasting Cardio and Firm Hips Thighs and Abs.
Now I have to find out what I can do next week as we will be camping -hmm.

Thanks everyone for your motivation tips :grouphug: You're all right and I just need to get back on track, and STICK WITH IT. I think part of my frustration right now is that I know that once I get to my ultimate goal, I know how to stay there ... it's just getting there that's making me crazy. Even with my slacking last week, I haven't gained anything. TOM is here and that of course mucks things up :sad2:
BUT, how's this for motivation ... When I left work a little bit ago for my lunch break, I found a gift certificate to Victoria's Secret from my DH on the front seat of my car  I called to thank him and ask, "Why?" He said that he thought I deserved something special because he's proud of me doing so well with my diet. Aaaawww, yes of course I :sad1: just a little bit because it was so sweet.

Ok so I have a question. I am rotating based on the 30 day rotation the firm had on it's website for the Transfirmer series. Alternating the 3 total body workouts on Mon, Wed, and Fri. Then when I'm being good and doing more than 3 workouts a week, I put Jiggle Free buns or Arms in on Tues and Thurs. Does that sound right?
Hope your having fun camping!
For me: yesterday (Mon) Ult. Cal Blaster and today (Tues) Jiggle Free Buns.
Trying to stick to it everyday this week. I don't have anything major to do any day so I should be able to.

HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!!! Well, I took yesterday as a rest day. I was actually a bit sore. Not to mention FIL is in town, so we went out to dinner. This morning I got in Fat Blasting Cardio. I also realized yesterday that my annual is scheduled for next Wednesday  Am I the only one that dreads stepping on that scale no matter HOW good I've been doing on my diet and exercise program :confused3

The key is to not lift heavy 2 days in a row. Do you know the 3 catergories of workouts? Cardio (C), Sculpt (S), and Cardio+Sculpt (CS)?
You basically don't want to do 2 S's back to back or 2 CS's back to back unless they alternate upper and lower body. For instance Jiggle Free Arms is ok on Monday and Jiggle Free Buns is ok on Tuesday because you aren't lifting heavy for the same body area 2 days in a row.
Personally I like to do a CS, C, CS, Rest C and either CS or S. Depending on how I feel.
Does that make sense?
I have my rotation and game plan all set up for the rest of the month with some added treadmill / jogging time to get ready for the ToT race.

I'm doing the Tot Race too! I've been thinking I really need to start switching over to more running.
Thanks for your advice. I think I've got it figured out. I seem to like the Transfirmer series the best. And so if I do Ult. Cal Blaster in between Jiggle Free Arms and Buns I shouldn't be lifting heavy. Ult Cal Blaster says light weights only. Thanks again.
Poohsmum, Yes I hate the scale too!
for me I finished up the week with Aerobic Body shaping- Weds, Jiggle Free Arms Thurs, and Elliptical 40 mins Fri.
Should really get off the computer right now and go exercise. But we just got home from seeing Ratatouille and I don't feel like it!!!popcorn::

Saturday I did Ultimate Fat Burning and Sunday was Complete Body Sculpting. Yesterday was my weekly golf match walking and carrying my clubs on my back.
I usually rotate cardio and cardio-sculpt, although I do tend to focus more on the cardio when I want to see the numbers on the scale get smaller ;) In that case, I'll usually rotate between the 3 cardio workouts that I have (Ultimate Fat Burning, Fat Blasting Cardio and Ultimate Calorie Blaster).

Cobbler, thanks for posting your rotation. And I thought the movie was cute. My Dd told me today though, she was afraid of the old lady in the beginning because she had that scary mask on (the gas mask).
Yesterday I did (Mon), Aerobic Body Shaping +20 min ellipt, and Tues, today 60 mins on elliptical.
I don't have that many of the Firm videos. And I find I like the Transfirmer series the best. So, I'm trying to make sure I alternate correctly among them.

Last night was Ultimate Calorie Blaster. It was nice, DH and the boys were out at the movies and then dinner. I got home from work, did my workout without ANY distractions, and then because I was sweating like crazy (hot and humid here this week), I jumped in the pool for a quick dip to cool off :thumbsup2 It was so nice to enjoy the quiet all by myself for a change. :woohoo:

Last night was Total Muscle Shaping ... guess I just felt like hanging with Stephanie a bit this week  I have to admit that the numbers on the scale are kind of stuck, but not only is my husband commenting on my weight loss, other people are starting to notice too. The numbers might not be changing, but I'm guessing that the inches are melting :yay:

Hi,
Thurs: 40 min ellipt. Fri: Jiggle Free Buns and almost 1/2 of Jiggle free Arms.
Sun, I ran 3 miles. My 5 yr old is just learning how to ride a bike with training wheels so I ran next to her. She is a great running partner. I can tell her to speed up or slow down. Dh was walking about 1/2 mile behind us and other DD fell asleep in the carriage. Not too bad!

Hi everyone. I was a big time slacker last week ... just a lot of "life" stuff to deal with. Saturday I did Ultimate Fat Burning and yesterday I was sore, so I had a rest day.
The GOOD news to share is that I have had a couple of clothing items hanging around in my closet for a while now that I just COULDN'T stuff myself into ... yesterday I remembered one of them while trying to figure out what to wear to a bridal shower. I put it on AND IT FIT!! This morning, I grabbed a pair of jeans AND THEY FIT TOO. :cool1: I actually had a co-worker say to me this morning ... "Hey, you've lost a TON of weight haven't you?" I don't know that the numbers on the scale are changing much (we're doing some work on our bathroom, so the scale has been displaced) but my clothes are certainly fitting different :thumbsup2

Great news Poohsmum! Congrats!
I saw the new infomercial yesterday for the first time. I find it so interesting to see which instructors carry on to the next program. I recognized- Allie, Allison and Annie(I think it was her. Except she highlighted her hair and is mostly blond). I like Pam. Too bad she didn't go forward. I wonder if she is considered too old?
As for me this week: Just Total Express Body Shaping yesterday. Aiming for 1 hr on elliptical today!

Pam actually left the FIRM and works for her own Yoga Studio now along with Libby.
Nancy started her own fitness studio and many of the FIRM instructors went with her like Dale, Stephanie, Christa and so on.
Jen left just after the second set and works at a studio in Charleston, SC called V. She works with one of the original FIRM instructors from volume 1 Susan Harris.
Updating my rotation.
On a good note when I did my measurements about 5 days ago I am down 2 lbs and 2 inches. I have about 8-9 more inches I want to lose and about 15 more lbs.
I noticed I only missed 5 workouts which isn't too bad but they were all towards the end of the month. It seems as if after I had that issue with my basement it all fell apart. Well it certainly is interesting to see. But I am increasing endurance because I am up to 2 miles in jogging. Granted I only do an 11 minute mile but I have never been a runner before so I am happy with that for now.

I used to belong to the FIRM site but it got to pricey. I even took a couple of trips down to the FIRM studio in Columbia.
If you want to see where Jen's studio is and get info on it is www.justv.net
You can see a free message forum where Nancy and some of the other instructors are at www.bodyfitcolumbia.com
