The village where my Dad lives has a scarecrow trail every year. My Dad and Step-Mum normally take part and have volunteered to make a scarecrow again this year. However, both of them have been really poorly for a couple of weeks and haven't had a chance to make anything.

To cut a long story short, they are unlikely to have a chance to do anything now as they go on holiday on Sunday so they have asked if we would like to make theirs for them. I have said we will have a think about what we could do - the theme is films and they had originally said they would do 'The King and I'.

So, your challenge is to think of a clever way to represent 'The King and I' with scarecrows or to come up with an alternative that would be original and preferably easy to make scarecrows/models for. Please bear in mind I have no talent for creativity whatsoever ;)

Joh, I have never watched the King and I, so I suggest you could dress one side of the Dummy to look like the King and the other side to be the 'I'.. LOL

I haven't a clue how to help you on the King and I front but I will think of suggestions later. :)

Hi, our village is doing the same this year and if we do one I want to do a Jack Sparrow! (pardon??!! LOL!)

No idea where to start though, we're meant to be getting some instructions but as its later in the summer that might be too late for you.

Good luck anyway!

Joh how about doing a nightmare before christmas as the two main characters look very much like scarecrows anyway?

My first instinct was a Mickey one

I need to get out more (or get on the Dis less - either would work :lmao: )

Joh

How about Edward Scissorhands

You could cut out cardboard scissor shapes cover them in shiny foil for the hands. Black bin bags wrapped around the body, arms and legs. White face with black lips and wild black wig - bingo.

Go on you know you can do it - the girls and Daniel will have great fun joining in.

Great idea Tam and the first thing that came to mind BUT her next door neighbour is doing that.

Oh well back to the drawing board. How about:-

Shrek - you could buy a Shrek mask and also an old waistocoat from a charity shop
Woody - from Toy Story

King and I - one side bald head and baggy shorts and sleeveless top for the king. Other side long hair and flowing long dress for the lady part. They do dance together so you could just have the backs of the heads and bodies if you did a double sided scarecrow.

How about the Tin Man? You just need tinfoil and a funnel for on his head plus some black buttons for eyes.

Peter Pan and Wendy- you can dress peter in green shorts/t-shirt and hat and wendy is very simple in a white nightgown...the tricky bit is making them fly.;) you will need to attach strong string to the back and hang them out of your top window assuming you don't live in a bungalow:cool1:

Thanks for your suggestions guys. In order to make it as easy as possible, we've decided on The Cat in the Hat. The plan is to make a big red and white stripey hat with a cat's bottom sticking out of it :)

I will post some pics once the masterpiece is complete :rotfl:
