I just received the the May Vacation Magic Email. The new magazine is being mailed soon, and they gave a little teaser...
"We don't want to give away the cover story and overarching theme, so let's just say it promises to be love at first sight."
What do you think the new cover story will be?

I think the operative word in that teaser is "Overarching". Hmm...what could that be? Maybe a cover story on the CRV resort to coincide with an official announcement? Hmm... :rolleyes1

It could be most anything...maybe a piece on Disney Weddings at DVC resorts?
Or maybe new "Destinations" like St. Louis (arch) or Niagara Falls (love/honeymmon destination)

Let's (try to) think about this logically.
What are the possible reasons for withholding the topic of the cover story?
1. It will be the subject of a formal announcement not yet made.
2. It can only be properly told in a magazine article; an email won't do it justice.
What kind of a cover story could form an "overarching theme" for an entire issue?
1. One that makes a pun on the word "overarching".
2. One that is news of great importance to the DVC program.
What possible cover story could justify the phrase "love at first sight"?
1. An object or person that has not previously been seen (at least by most readers).
2, An object or person that could induce a high level of affection in DVC owners.
I'm sorry people but this just screams "CRV!!". I don't see any other solution other than a different new resort.

They also showed a picture of the existing CR while it was under construction (further down, in the article about Seven Seas Lagoon). Not that it means anything...

Sorry, but I think making the declaration "love at first sight" about the Contemporary is a little too boastful for Disney--particularly when applied to the least-themed resort on property.
Besides, planning a cover story on a not-yet-announced project is a pretty big risk. Even if VM were timed to be mailed after a press release, any number of things could happen to derail that announcement. If memory serves, we got two issues of VM before AKV was addressed.
I think the wedding theory is a good one. Could also have something to do with the Flower & Garden Fest.

I think it might have something to do with the making the Disney Weddings available to same sex couples.
Dis13

While the wedding idea seems likely, I don't think they'd theme the issue on same-sex marriage since that's quite a volatile subject for many. Perhaps it's Disney weddings and their new line of Disney dresses for Brides.
I hope it's just not about the upcoming Pixar movie, WALL-E. He's cute, but....

When I read this all I keep thinking about is my local news... "Coming up after the break is the most stupendous, controversial, amazing, shocking story you have ever heard... Don't go ANYWHERE!"
Of course, after the break they come back and say "Well, Sam was awarded Sportscaster of the week... isn't that fabulous?" :scared1:
So I'll add to your list from above:
It could be:
They are redoing the magazine style. They think you'll Love the new look at first sight. They included a fabulous new "arch" logo. And they don't want anyone to see it until they are ready to unleash it upon the world...
Not to be a spoiled sport - but - it honestly could leave us all screaming if we expect it to be something we consider worthy!

Oh, great.

I agree that there's no way they'd use VM to make a major announcement like a new resort. It's just not a timely enough vehicle.
As for overarching, I much prefer "underarching", as in "let's go under this arch!".

NOT that I think that's what the announcement is but, Disney does do weddings and they are legal in part of our country so if I wanted to get married here at City Hall and then go to Disney for an actual ceremony .....but I do not think DVC would announce anything like that anyways.

I highly doubt that it will be a CRV announcement. They would not bury that kind of thing in a magazine.
I have a feeling that we'll be disappointed on this one or that it will under-whelm us. Tis just a hunch.

Why would a bride theme be something that would be exciting to the majority of DVC members? I really don't know this statistically but I would think most members are married people. I vote it has something to do with a new DVC. As much as I want it to be the CRV I'm thinking it might be California.

Perhaps it may be the announcement of the 2 new ships they just signed building contracts for in Germany. I am lead to believe the new ships will have indoor pools etc. for cold weather cruises. I am also hoping they are going to announce a DVC in CA, Hawaii, and at CR.

To put an end to the suspense...I came across a new member who was handed a copy of the new VM during a DVC tour last week. The cover has a photo of newlyweds wearing mouse ears and the "overarching theme" is honeymooning at WDW.

There has been a few news articles of suspicious and conspicious dealings in land purchase offers near Branson Missouri by some random land developers. The guess is that Disney is looking to build some new theme park in the area. I know we have all heard this before, so this is probably not new news. But the "overarching" does make it seem possible, I guess?????:confused3

Rumored Disney park 'shenanigans'
Kathryn Buckstaff
News-Leader
Neosho — People in rural Newton County will have to forget, at least for now, the prospect of selling their land for big bucks to the Walt Disney Co.
After rumors flew last week that Disney was planning to build a $1.1 billion theme park in the area, Presiding Commissioner Jerry Carter got the word Monday that, as he put it, it's "shenanigans."
"I just talked to the vice president of public affairs for Disney, and she said there's nothing to it," Carter said.
Carter said Disney officials didn't recognize the names of any of the three owners of ARM Risk, the company supposedly working to assemble the 1,000 acres of land.
"(Disney) can say absolutely that they're not involved in Newton County or in southwest Missouri," Carter said.
Two weeks ago, Todd Marshall, who said he represented ARM Risk, attended a Board of Commissioners meeting to ask about making changes to rural roads leading to the site of a planned theme park. Marshall did not identify who would develop such a park. But when commissioners checked addresses on ARM Risk's registration with the Missouri Secretary of State's office, two of the three addresses were those of Disney corporate headquarters in Burbank, Calif., and Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
Also, the business address listed on the registration form is 1826 S. Glenstone Ave., Springfield, Suite 353. That address is the site of a UPS store with a mailbox numbered 353.
Win $1,000 in new furniture
And lending an odd touch, the name of one of the company's owners is registered as Robert Brown. While it may be a common name, it also is the name of the deceased first husband of Walt Disney's daughter, Sharon Disney. That Robert Brown died in 1967.
Carter said he's perplexed by the events.
"It's amazing the number of people who have called with the thought of their land going up in value. We're calling the attorney general's office."
Robert Fougere, press secretary for the Missouri Attorney General's office, said he couldn't yet say whether the events will come under scrutiny by that office.
"We certainly would be interested to hear if someone has complaints," Fougere said.
While Marshall gave commissioners a toll-free number, repeated calls yielded a busy signal. Also, e-mail to the address he gave commissioners was not returned.
"It doesn't smell right," said Steve Critchfield, a commercial real estate broker in Branson. If Disney were seeking property, "they would never be this public if they didn't control all the land they needed."
"It would happen before we'd hear anything about it," Critchfield said.
Despite rumors, there's never been any sign of Disney interest in the Branson area, he said.
Jim Hill, a New Hampshire resident, has been writing about Disney for 25 years. He makes his living from his Disney-related Web site.
"It's a cruel prank," he said. "The history of the Disney Company is that they're incredibly careful about this stuff."
According to a timeline of the Disney Co., in 1964, Disney attorney Robert Foster began to purchase land in Florida. To keep his identity secret, he used an assumed name. Among the property was 12,400 acres owned by three Orlando home builders that he bought for $145 an acre.
However, Disney officials have begun exploring expansion by building stand-alone Disney-branded businesses such as resort hotels and water parks because travelers go to major theme parks only once every four years, according to minutes of a report by Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.
In February, Rasulo said Disney is thinking about developing themed hotels that could be built in large cities that already are tourist draws. Disney also is contemplating "niche theme parks" and water parks in other cities, Rasulo said.
"Our relationships with millions of families will enable us to expand to new businesses and new markets," Rasulo said. "We will never stop dreaming."
"The irony is that Branson would probably be great turf for Disney," Hill said.
