solo travelers- what do you do at night?

I'm contemplating a solo trip coming up. Between work and wedding planning I need some time alone to relax!!!
I know I'd be just fine at the parks and dining alone, but what do you do at night if you go solo? When I go with my DFi or my friends or sister, we go to Pleasure Island or Jellyrolls but I don't think I'd be into doing that alone.
Any suggestions? I'm not sure if I'd be dying to be in the parks from open to close but some evenings at the park would be okay.
Hmm, maybe I could sleep, I can't seem to do that at home!:laughing:

I'm making my first solo trip next weekend and am kind of in the same boat. I'll be at Epcot one night so that really one leaves Friday night. I'll probably go to DTD and maybe catch a movie or I could just wander around and see what kind of trouble I can get into. G-rated trouble of course.

Umm, night? I thought WDW closed down about 10:00pm. That's about when I conk out. After all, gotta be "up and at 'em" with Mickey the next morning! I know that a couple solos have gone to Jellyrolls by themselves and found it very "solo-friendly".

I've gone to Downtown Disney by myself a couple times at night and enjoyed walking around through the shops and listening to the entertainment on the open air stage, but I think that's closed down, isn't it? The best fun I had was at the Adventurer's Club. I bought a wrist band and stayed for the show and it was hilarious and I felt very comfortable being solo. I didn't go to any of the other clubs, but the Comedy Club would probably be a fun place to visit on your own, too.

i started slowly
last mar i flew down & back w/a friend & her dd - they spent 3 days offsite at a cheering competition before rejoining me at wdw
in aug there were times when dh & ds wanted to rest in the room and i wanted to be in the parks so i went by myself.
Noone knows if you have family elsewhere so why the heck not go solo?
Just returned this past Fri night from my first 8day/7night solo vacation and cannot wait to do it again!

I do evening EMH at MK, EPCOT and Disney/MGM. I also spend one or two evenings at DTD--definitely one of them at the AC! :)

As for going solo in the parks--if I had spent my life waiting around for others to do the things I enjoy, I never would have done 20% of what I've done to date. That includes WDW and Disneyland/CA parks!

Everyone's different. Some people need family and/or friends around them to enjoy experiences. I enjoy both--and find each venue offers different experiences as part of a group or solo.

To the OP -

If you are going to the World for a relaxing getaway, I would alternate days where you come back to the resort in the afternoon for a swim and then evenings in the parks with days where you come back to the resort early and get some extra sleep. I know when I've gone for long weekends after particularly stressful periods at work, sometimes I don't even go to the parks. I particularly like WL for these trips, because there are so many nooks and crannies to just hide with a good book, or boats to take out on the lake, or bicycles to rent, that it doesn't seem necessary to be in the parks all the time. The shops at DTD Marketplace are open until 11:00pm, so that can also be a good choice for an evening that you don't want to be out too late. Make sure you plan some down time into your itinerary, so you get the relaxation you need to come back refreshed. Spoil yourself with room service for breakfast one morning when you decide to sleep in.

I tend to be in the parks past closing. Back to the resort, a little TV to wind down and bed so I can get up and do it all again the next day.

I usually spend my nights at Pleasure Island, mostly at Adventurers Club but catching a Comedy Warehouse show every now and then as well. Depending on time of year, I may go to a specialty dining event -- food & wine festival specialty dinners, wine dinners at Jiko, etc. first. Those tend to last until at least 9-9:30pm (or later, especially the Jiko ones).

For me, solo trips started when I wanted to go to WDW but my friends either didn't want to or couldn't go. Rather than wait for planets to align and schedules to free up, I made a decision to just go myself as a birthday treat. At the time, I had already been living alone for over a year, so I was quite comfortable being by myself. 10 years later ... it's routine now.
I'm still single and my "default" has become to just go (to a movie, to the theatre, to a restaurant, to WDW) rather than try to make plans around everyone's schedules. Don't get me wrong, I still make plans (usually save the date first, then decide on the activity) with friends/family. But any spontaneous stuff is all solo.
I think it all depends on whether or not the individual can appreciate being alone. It certainly doesn't equal being lonely, but it's not everyone's comfort zone.

I'm one of those DISers who do Jellyrolls solo. I've come to know the staff and always felt comfortable there by myself - I just grab a stool off to the side and enjoy the night!!

I can't imagine a more "solo-friendly" bar than the Adventurer's Club. There are actors on staff whose job is to interact with you! Plus the bartenders are very friendly, and the atmosphere just sort of invites striking up a conversation with a stranger.

Jelly Rolls is also quite good, especially in comparison to the other piano bars around town. Plenty of stool seating that still has a good view of the stage, so you don't feel weird taking up an entire table.

ohhhh at nite... I basically vegitate, go for a 7ish dinner at PI and go watch a movie. This previous trip I was at SSR and enjoyed the rocking chair facing PI and just plain chilling... This was also the time I do those fireworks packages... Fantasmic dinner package, etc. I love taking pictures so the last trip I gave the nite parades and fireworks their own designated nite... find a good spot early on, an example was Wishes... I went straight to Noodle Station... grab dinner.. relax... while everybpdy is watching the Spectromagic I am situated ina perfect spot for my Wishes Photo Op. Love Love Love Epcot WS at nite... after dinner.. a stroll at the world showcase with my fave dessert and a drink is awesome! I have done many solo trips to WDW. Some nights I go to the parks. Other nights I have gone shopping at DTD, hung out at the AC, and or visit a bar at another resort.

Sometimes I have gone to the BW and sat on the patio of the Big River to watch the people walking the Boardwalk...sometimes to see parts of Iluminations. Othertimes I have gone to a quiet bar at a resport with a good book.

There are plenty of ways to spend your time as a solo at night at WDW. Just do what you enjoy doing to relax and have a good time.

Like many solo travelers, I go on my own so I can enjoy the things that I want to do when I want to do them. I haven't been to the World solo yet but I am going during free dining. Its my chance to just relax and enjoy. I take my time at the parks, eat when I want, where I want, and just basically don't really care what others think about me being solo. Its great fun and I have to do it just for my sanity. . .

I spend so much money at WDW I hate to spend for extra - PI and the BW stuff is definitely extra - less it is free.

If you find yourself having free time alone at night, you could consider hopping over to another resort and take a stroll around the property. Some are very beautiful and peaceful during the evening. Plus, if you like what you see, you can consider that resort for your next trip.

That's a GREAT suggestion! Port Orleans Riverside is beautiful at night!
