View Full Version : Can I get ready in less than a month?

I have a little less than a month to get ready for my WDW trip. :scared1: I've been extremely depressed and instead of exercising and getting physically prepared for this trip, I've been moping around in the house. Last year I started exercising in February and that really helped for the trip. I was getting in decent shape throughout last year, but then around the middle of December I got hit with a bad bout of depression and lost all my headway.

I'm obese (have over 100 pounds to lose) and I have very flat feet, which causes me a lot of problems.

Is it even possible for me to get into a walking routine with so little time left? If I could even drop 10 pounds, it might help.

Do I have unreasonable expectations?

Yes, yes, yes!

I am also overweight, and had major back surgery in January. I was on bed rest until the end of march. I started walking the last week in March (I used the 1 mile Walk Away the Pounds Video or just paced around the back yard.

In one month, I've gone from barely being able to finish the 18 minute video to walking 17 miles a week (3 or 4 miles a couple times a week). You CAN, absolutly do it! You just have to commit yourself to doing something, anything, every day. The 18 minute WATP video was great for me, because it was not too taxing (I did it in flip flops!), and was easy to fit into any schedule, yet it was enough to kick start my workout routine.

I totally think you can and WILL do it :)

Wow, congratulations on your incredible progress! And thank you for the encouragement. I'm not a big fan of videos, but I'll have to check that one out. I've seen it mentioned more than once on the WISH board and your success really has me curious now.

I recently heard that to lose weight, multiply your body weight by 10 and that is the # of calories you should consume for the day. Well, I too was a bit discouraged about my weight and lack of progress in losing it. In fact, I started heading back up instead of down.

So, I tried the formula. Actually, I subtracted about 300-400 calories from it. In a week I lost over 7 pounds! Now, I do not expect that every week. In fact, I will be happier with a slower loss--maybe a pound or 2 a week.

I guess the old advice works well. If you want to lose weight, consume fewer calories. Now, if you combine that with a bit of walking (which will help prepare you for your trip) I am sure you can reach your goal of 10lbs before you go.

Good luck!

MM - Definitely - you can do this!

Just make sure you have a good pair of walking shoes. I have a Garmin GPS to track my mileage, but I also sometimes just use the Pedometer I got out of the cereal box - it's very motivating to see just how many steps you've gone.

You could lose a few pounds in 30 days with determination and just walking a little every day and eating a little less.

Heck, I think Valerie Bertinelli has lost 18 pounds in 6 weeks!

Okay, well I did some more walking today and my feet felt better. I'm just hoping I can build up to this.

Hillbeans, that pedometer sounds like a good idea! I'll have to see if I can find an inexpensive one to try. I wonder how many steps people typically take at WDW. My first time there, I was in constant agony from it, but my second time it was a good bit better. I knew to rest on a bench once in a while before the pain got too bad. That helped me manage it throughout the week.

MM, I also have over 100 pounds to lose and have flat feet!
Sometimes my feet hurt in the places where arches are supposed to be
if I do too much walking.

I also want to mention to you the Walk Away the Pounds videos. I like them because they are not complicated like some videos tend to be! I am pretty clumsy so I need something where the steps are pretty easy. I would rather walk outside, but when it is really cold or really hot I don't like to walk outside.

Actually, I just joined back at Weight Watchers and have not yet begun to exercise again. I've got to get back on it!!

Good luck!!

I also have flat feet, and the 1st and 2nd times I went to WDW I was in serious pain at the end of the day. I wore "walking" shoes that I bought at a real shoe store, and at the time I was about 40 lbs overweight.

The 3rd time I went I was 20 lbs heavier and even more out of shape. I took a chance based on my husband (who is also overweight) who bought shoes for nursing school from Walmart and loved them. They are Dr Sholl's sneakers and fairly inexpensive ($20-30) and made a HUGE difference for flat-footed me. My feet still hurt but nothing like that first time.

I started working out and dieting in February, and used those shoes for my workouts. Never had a problem, even after working my way up to 30 min or more on an elliptical trainer, and I used to have problems even when I was a lot thinner with traditional (Reebok, etc.) cross-trainer or walking shoes. Now I am back down to 36 lbs overweight, and I need a new pair!

Any little bit helps though...even parking a bit further from the entrance of stores and work helps. I haven't tried those videos but I have heard good things about them! Good luck!
