through Disney in order to do the Disney dining plan? I was considering doing the dining plan but already but one 6-day hopper. Is it possible to still do the dining plan? I haven't bought my dd's ticket yet.

No, the DDP must be purchased as part of a pkg which includes room at rack rate and at least a one day MYW ticket. I have an AP, have done the DDP three times (will be four when I go next week) and each time I've had to purchase a one day MYW ticket. Of course, you can always save the one day ticket to use at a later date.

I know I said you had to pay room rate for your room (and normally you do), but you can use an AAA rate and for my May trip Disney had a code that allowed for the DDP to be purchased and still gave a slight room discount (not as good as the AP discount though).

From the Dining Plan FAQ for this forum:
Is there an admission purchase requirement?
With the exception of guests staying at DVC resorts on DVC points, you must at least purchase a basic one day admission ticket, but you do not have to purchase a ticket that matches the number of nights you are staying.http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=16079998
