We are helping friends plan their first trip to DL with their 3 kids(11,9,4). Looking for a moderately
priced hotel/motel that can accommidate 5 and not be very run down and turn them off from their first trip to the happy place on earth. We generally stay on property and will be traveling with them during this trip, so it has to be something we
also like. Walking distance or shuttle ride would be a plus.
I have heard a few people mention suite hotels, but are these considered moderate? Any Help

The Best Western Park Place Inn is very close and they do accommodate up to five in one room. It's a very nice, clean moderate hotel and you can actually walk to the parks since it's right across the street. :)
Carousel Inn is right next door to BWPP, they have suites as well and it gets nice reviews. Dessert Inn is another local favorite that has suites, is has the advantage of an indoor pool. I have also heard good things about the Annabella Hotel. I have stayed at Park Inn Interational, there are suites there, the place is clean but nothing special. I think HoJos also has suites. Of course, many Disneyland Hotel regular rooms accomodate 5 people because they are large rooms with a day bed. The Disney's Paradise Pier regular rooms also accomodate 5 people, but that little chair-sleeper is only suitable for a small person. All of these are easy walking distance.

The two newest places are just a hair farther than the ones at the entrance to the porperty but are still walkable. The Portofino Inn and Suites as numerous room configurations and has some rooms with views of the parks.
The Anabella is nice and new and has some family suites and lots of tropical vegitation. Both are near or have restaurants and are reasonable in price.
The closest ones are the Park Inn international, Park Place Inn. Carousel Inn and Suites and Desert Inn and Suites, I have heard mixed reviews for all of the above except the Park Inn international which sxeems to always get good reviews.

We just got back. We stayed at the Annaheim Fairfield Inn. It was about a half a block from the main entrance. There standard room has two double beds and a loveseat sofa/sleeper. It had a refrig in the room but no micro. There is a McDonalds right out front and they do room service. It was clean and the staff was very friendly and accomodating. We only paid $65.00 a night with a coupon from the visitors bureau booklet I got in the mail.
