My sister was asking me where to find these things that go on your neck to keep you cool. She wants to get one for my Dad for our trip. We leave on Friday, so I was hoping that someone can recommend somewhere local to pick one up (like a Walmart or Target) - or even somewhere in Disney. Thanks in advance for your help!

We've bought them in the past from Walmart in the outdoor equipment department (like where they have camping equipment).

I found them at Walmart in the aisle where they sell floor fans. They are called arctic ties and were under $3
If you can't find them before you go, you can get them at DW. I got mine at Animal Kingdom in 2002 -- I think it cost around $6.
You can find them cheaper at stores like Rite-Aid, Walmart, etc. They're usually in the seasonal/summer section this time of year, if they carry them. I bought a few at a local store called Long's Drugs.

Hello!
I ordered mine from QVC last year for my son to use during his baseball games. At first I didnt really like them, but after the first couple uses we loved them. They really do work :)

How do these actually work and how long do they stay cool? We are going in Sept and I would really like to give these a try.

We kept ours in a baggie of ice water in a little soft-sided cooler. When you put in on it literally feels like it's lowering your body temperature by about 20 degrees!! We would wear it for I think about 20 minutes-1/2 hour, then put it back in the baggie because we were all cooled off. My one complaint is that a couple of ours broke at the seam and then you get the goo all over your neck:eek: .
But I'm definitely getting them again for our next trip, if I can find them!

We bought these at Walmart for our trip. I didn't realize you are supposed to soak them for 20 minutes before using so we never really got to use them on our trip. Just something to keep in mind. I thought you could just get them wet and they would be good to go, not the case..........

Has anyone tried to make these themselves? I love the idea, but the ones I have seen are just ugly fabrics!! Or maybe I could buy one and make a removable "cover" for it in a Mickey fabric! Would make it easier to wash too!

I have neck wraps in Mickey Fabric .... really nice .... I've been using them on hot days and nights to cool off ... I can't wait until we use them in Disney in July.
They are made in the following fabric.
http://www.tabberone.com/fabrics/d/Mickey/d_mickey_checked.jpg
I also found them with fans at Walmart. The only color our Walmart had was red bandanna fabric. I covered one with Tinkerbell fabric. The red shows through some when it gets wet but I can live with that. Using one of these (I have an old one that's just solid black) has probably saved my life at Disney and other outdoor venues in hot weather. I can't believe how much it cools me off. They are kind of a pain when you aren't wearing them because if you seal it in a ziplock bag, it will get mildewed. I usually just tie mine on the outside of whatever kind of bag I'm carrying. As someone else said, be sure to soak it a full 20 minutes and use icey water!

I have made them many times for my daughters softball team. You can buy any fabric you want. They sell the crystals at some craft store. I got mine at "Michaels arts and crafts". It is usually in with the artificial flowers but ask. It comes dried and you don't need very much. My only tips are to use a VERY tight stitch and use only about 1/4 tsp of crystals!!! The crystals expand and if you have too much they will make the whole thing explode!
Good Luck.:laundy:

Would you share more details? Dimensions? Photos? Really one 1/4 TEASPOON is enough? TIA

I found these posted directions online....
I have never made them myself.
But there seems to be very few pellets in the neck tie....
I was surprised when it swelled up so much in the cold water.
Good luck if you make them.

Last year I made some for myself and the rest of the family. One thing that was nice about making your own was that you could choose the length to make them. I even made some small ones for my infant nieces and nephew. What a life saver to keep little ones cool when out in the sun.

This happened to us too. What we ended up doing was buying a large cup of ice water and just dipping a paper napkin in it. Then we put the wet napkin around our necks. It worked great and no goo.

Someone posted this link on the budget board. This gal makes Disney fabric neck wraps. I think$5 each with about 10 choices of fabric.

We bought one from Disney and we did not like them. Not very helpful. I would suggest a misty mate instead. You can spay yourself with a cool mist. You can find them at wal-mart. The neck thing that we got from disney was like a wet strip of t-shirt on your neck. We Now keep in mind that it did not have crystals like some one else ws saying. But we eventually went to misty mates.

They also sell them in a set of 6 on QVC they are called Cool downz neck wraps. They have 3 different/6packs of fabric choices. I've used them at WDW and loved how they cool you down in the heat.
Today they are having a promo on easy pay too and if you buy anything by midnight you can pay in 5 easy payments on your credit card.
Great to keep around for summer weather!!
Happy shopping!!

You can also do a search on the Internet. I personally would like to pick out my neck coolers than get a variety of pre-packed coolers. I found this site that has over 100 different neck coolers to choose from (there are some Disney)(http://www.countrynmore.com/neck-coolers-68/4/). I like the neck coolers because they help me when it is hot out. In fact, I wore one to my son's graduation this past week. We were outside in the sun and the heat, and I was glad that I had one to wear. It helped to have a hat to wear as well.

The neck coolers that I use, I got from www.countrynmore.com. They currently have a sale on neck coolers. I believe that there are several Disney neck coolers that are on sale for $4.25 each. They have non-Disney neck coolers for $3.83. You can get quite a few for priority mail shipping and it doesn't take long for them to arrive.

My aunt and cousin had them when we met up with them on our trip. They got them at Walmart.
When we had lunch at Pizzafari, while we were eating, they each got an extra cup of ice water, and soaked them during the time we ate - just FYI.

That is what I do. I soak my neck cooler in ice water. I wear my neck cooler around the house and while out on errands. The neck coolers are so nice on hot days.
