Child Airport Id?

We haven't traveled since they implimented the new security measures. We are going to WDW May 4 - 11th - does my 8yr old son need some type of identification?

We got a passport for my dd(6). I like having a form of picture ID for her. When we applied for our passports, I was hesitant on getting her one, but the agent said he had seen a great increase in the number of passports applied for children since 9/11. He said people have seen it come in very handy at the airports.

We just got back from a trip that included our two nephews - ages 5 & 1. Never at any place were their parents asked for any ID for them.

As long as children are traveling domestically with their parents, there should not be any need to have ID for them. The only time I have heard that problems may occur is if a child is traveling with only one parent and the destination is outside of the U.S. (due to custody disputes/kidnapping).

Some people do like to carry a birth certificate or passport for their children, but it isn't necessary. If you have any doubt, check with your airline to see their policy on this. Most post it on their web sites.

We traveled Ocotober 13 and went the extra ile to have photo ids done of our two daughters, ages 7 and 4, through our sheriff's department, and were never asked once for them...

CALL YOUR AIRLINE!!! Most airports revert to the major carriers for policies on ID's needed. We were told that we needed ID for our kids. The night before we left we could not find the birth certificates. We brought insurance ID cards (which you should bring anyway) and the kids report cards(for our 10 and 7 yr olds). Our DD is 4 and we happened to have immunization records on hand.

If you have birth certificates I would bring them, just to be sure. All it could take is a security person who is having a really bad day and your trip could start off poorly.

I just got back from WDW. They only required photo ID for people 18 or older. Children 17 and under did not need photo ID. :) The did not need birth certificates or anything. We were flying US Airways.
