Here is another sad story about a death of a 22 yr old runner due to hyponatraemia. This is a reminder of everyone to drink something than just water or take a supplement(Endyrolytes, etc) to get some salts back in your body. How sad.

It sounded to me like they did not even have a sports drink on the course. That's awful. The weather appeared to be the same as or slightly cooler than DIsney this year, but I still can't imagine only serving water.

How sad...

A couple of notes...this is why our coaches advise us to carry a salt packet with us...Even with adequate hydration from sports drinks--that little salt packet between miles 16 and 18...is kind of a life saver...both from a performance as well as a health standpoint.

Very odd they are talking about water shortages when he died of too much water. :(

So to our full wishers--carry a salt packet (like they give you at a fast food restaurant) and consume it with water when you are about 70-75% complete with the course. (Advice from my coaches.)

On a similar note, due to the heat this past January, John Bingham suggested taking a salt packet at the beginning of the race and then another one around mile 13.

That's really a shame about that runner in England. I hear stories like this with first time marathoners and it makes me a little nervous since the WDW '08 will be my first.
