Hello everyone!
For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!
New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Man, if every run was like this, I'd do a marathon every weekend! I woke up with an evil migraine, have been fighting wicked GERD all week, so bagged the 8 miles this a.m. in favor of migraine pills and more sleep. Couldn't stand not running so I went out about 6:30pm instead...it was the BOMB!!! Pace wasn't stellar, but was a PR, 1:35:27 (11:56/mile). The 4 miles out was against a 21mph kick'n chick'n headwind so the 4 miles back felt like I was flying! I never felt tired and kept up the intervals for the entire run   I'm thinking about converting to night running for every LR.
Bad news is my foot's feeling pretty rough. I taped it today and I'm thinking of taking the entire next week off, then come back for the taper week for light stuff before the Minnie. I ordered some dreadfully expensive Merrell shoes for work and casual because I have no shoes that are comfortable anymore (except running shoes) :sad1:
Okay, now to catch up...so last week I missed something with Steve and Dave tied up in a race where you squeal like a pig. I think I saw that movie! Anyone else hearing the faint sounds of Dueling Banjos? :rolleyes1
OptiMike...that kind of physical exam is precisely the reason I chose an "above-the-waist" specialty ::yes::
Jennifer...7 feet's pretty good-sized, but they're not gigantic til they're 10+ ;) There was a 12-footer in residence at UF when I was in school there.
Kiena...great time on your 5 miles!
Kristi...hope your 7 miler goes well! Glad the bail fund remains untouched.
Cam...yikes! Hope you're feeling better soon!
Steve...DH and I both got Nike visors and I can't understand how I ever ran without one.
Krista...I can't imagine you'd have enough chub to rub ;) Sorry about the stonker run...just consider it dress rehearsal for the Pig.
Martha...sorry about your stonker too. Hope you're feeling better soon.
Craig...we've been moaning about the lack of football season, but just found out we get the Fox Soccer channel. DD14 has been watching football all day...MLS, La Liga, etc.
Minnie...hope you're enjoying Denmark and we'll get to hear more about it when you get back!
Leana...that's a crazy big hill! Great pace on your run!
Richard...great pace on your 5 miles!
Nancy...glad the allergies are improving. I'm grass and weeds myself, DH is trees and cat, DD14 is nearly everything.
Shan...congrats on surviving week 2!
Andrew...congrats on the 2 miles! Glad the 'new' legs are working for you!
Melissa...hope Phil is doing well! Glad you're enjoying the bike shop!
Bill...glad that Timmy's doing better!
Lynnda...happy birthday!
Anyone else having sweating issues? I would swear I sweat more since I lost weight than I did before, though my pace has certainly increased since the beginning. I've never been one of those girls that have a light glow of perspiration, but it's getting ridiculous! I can only wear black shorts now because my grey ones look like I've had a huge accident after a run. I'm starting to feel like a 300lb linebacker!
Happy Earth Day everyone!

Hello WISHer's - I would like to join you!
Here's a little info on me - I am a SAHM of 2 young boys - age 3 1/2 and 16 months. I am stuggling to get back to pre-baby weight - I need to lose about 45 more lbs (don't get me started, partial bed rest lead to gaining 80 lbs in pregnancy).
I do triathlons, and I love running and swimming - the bike, not so much.
Upcoming races that I am training for:
Mach Tenn Tri (sprint distance) - June 2
WDW Tri (Olympic distance) - Sept 23
ToT13K - Oct 27
I am looking forward to training with you all!

Mel- Amazing what changing up the time of your run can do. Maybe the ToT run will be a PR opportunity! Glad the migraine feels better!
TriMom- Welcome to the group. I'd like to try a tri but my swimming needs work. One day...
My back has decided to feel better today. That first burst of yard work really hurt! No run scheduled. Maybe car washing with my new hose.
Have a great day!

Hello Out There!!!
My staying out of touch is getting worse, but 13 days till graduation and 14 days till MINNIE!!!!!!
Mel That's awesome about your run. We always run at night/evening, especially LR and it made me nervous about doing races in AM but never practicing in AM. But it has never been a problem!
Trimom :welcome: YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE IT HERE!! Maybe reading about your training will finally inspire me to take that leap to a TRI, DH has been bugging me for forever for us to try one!:confused3
Kiena Glad to hear your back is not hurting, my car is REALLY dirty if you want to do 2! :rotfl:
I will not make an attempt to try to catch up with last week :sad2:
LR scheduled for this evening - 9, let you know how it goes later

Trimom--Welcome!:cool1: I also have a 3 1/2 year old and a 17 month old!:thumbsup2 It definitely is busy around here!
Angie--How exciting that graduation is just around the corner! You should be so proud of yourself!
Yesterday was a rest day--today should be xtraining; we'll see what I actually do. Sounds like everyone is having some wonderfu weather! Here's hoping it will be in the 60s with little to no humidity for the Minnie!

Stephanie - Please pray VERY hard for good weather for MINNIE. The runs have been kicking my but down here. My body does not do well at ALL in heat. It is still cooling off in the evening but we have hit some 90's lately.:scared1: I know you were just here so you felt some of it!!

Morning WISH Team!
Welcome new WISH Team members! This is the greatest place. You really will love it here. Join in often, it will make our journey such fun.
Angie, have you designed your mortar board with Minnie ears? Will you be wearing it Minnie race day?
Mel, whoa with the wildlife you get to see on your runs. I love going on our trail here and lucky for us on the North Coast we don't usually have that to contend with. Sorry about your foot. Sounds like a smart thing to lay off and do light work during the week previous.
Susie, Denmark! I can't wait for your trip report and pics.
I managed 7 miles yesterday in lovely summer-like weather 62 degrees as I started out in the a.m. Kind of warmer than I like. I did go out slow and tried to keep the pace to 15 min. I was up and down with it and managed a 14:27 for the 7 miles. I felt the leg, but not too badly so I'm thinking that Minnie will be a fine time. Oh, well what am I saying; of course it will be a fine time. I'll be there with WISH Team members. It will be great!
Have a great training week everyone.
Don't forget to post up your events to the calendar thread (sticky thread) top of the Events page. I may be slow on updates, but I'm getting them.
:thumbsup2

Good morning everyone!
It's a beautiful day today in NW Florida.
Got out this morning and ran 5 miles at a 11:41 pace. Felt good throughout the run.
Speaking of wildlife. This guy greeted me next to the garage when I got back.
http://members.cox.net/bigvic/blacksnake.jpg
The best I can tell it's a black snake (Racer) and about 3 feet in length.
Mel - Great job on the 8 miler!
TriMom - :welcome:
Kiena - Take care of that back.
Angie - Congrats on the graduation. Have fun on your LR.
Stephanie - Good morning!
Lily - Great job on the 7 miler!
Hope everyone one has a great day and a great training this week.
Oh yeah, Krista - Take care of that chub rub. ;) :rotfl:

I was supposed to do 7 miles.
My asthma was bad - so I only walked and did 5 miles instead.
(must have something to do with hanging around a smoky casino all day Friday)
And my Garmin wasn't set to automatically calculate the miles.
So, it took me 1:10:14, a 14:03 mile.
It's gorgeous here, FINALLY!
I am going to shower, then take Zack to the park while Chad goes to his city hall gig this afternoon.

Hooked up the new trainer (basically a flywheel and roller) to the ol bike, and pounded away for about an hour before I was basically dripping so much I was making a mess! It's a little different compared with being outside and having your sweat get blasted off in the wind... You also don't get to "coast" it's pretty much nonstop exercise. Was supposed to do 2.5 hours but I went real hard during the race yesterday and just wasn't feelin like I had the energy. I AM trying to motivate myself to hit the pool though since that IS my weakest event and what I should be focusing on the most. More later when I finish with the weekly totals.

G'day WISHers! It's another lovely day here in New England, an oddity I'm sure will not last. But I'm enjoying it while I can.
Today was 30 min on the bike to loosen up the legs after yesterday's effort. I then spent an hour raking the yard before applying Scott's Step 1 to the yard. Last year I grew a lovely crop of clover. I wonder what this year will bring!! :rotfl:
Matt: I hope you get that swim in. When is your next event?
Kristi: sorry to hear your asthma is acting up.
Vic: LOVE the garage guard! The only "wildlife" in our area is the cats!
Lily: :thumbsup2 on the run. Enjoy the spring weather. If it's like here, it'll turn cold one more time just to let us know who's the boss!!
Trimom: :welcome: You're gonna love this group!!
Angie: good luck on the LR tonight!
Mel: I am so happy you had such a great run even tho the day started off poorly. Way to rise above it!!!
Everyone have a great training day!

Hey all... nothing to report because I am on foot rest. I did want to hit the gym for some elliptical training, but the weather is so nice that DH have been spending time with our kids. I am gone a lot so this is a rare thing. They are loving it. I wanted to do yard work this weekend, but the wind is so horrendous that it blows me away when I am outside. I raked a teeny bit and gave that up. I did plant 2 blueberry bushes. I seem to have something eat them every year and kill them off. First we thought deer, now we suspect our dog (she eats anything). So I put in 2 new ones and a makeshift fence. If they die this year, that's it!
Angie - I am planning to do my LR on Friday this week. I haven't ran in a week because of my foot.
I am hoping that by Friday it will feel well enough to get in a training run (doctor said to rest 1-2 weeks and that will be 1 1/2 weeks). I get my orthotics the week after. My 1/2 marathon is coming up in 4 weeks and I am terrified now that I won't make it through with my foot. DH says to walk it, which I may do and forgo a PR!
Mel - That is FANTASTIC. I am not sure I will be able to keep up with you at the WDW Full this year. You have gotten so speedy and I seem to be falling behind. DH says to just be happy you are doing it, and that is what I am trying to do now. No more concentrating on speed, now I am just concentrating on being a finisher. This is where I started 1 1/2 years ago.
Vic - I would die if that snake were in my yard. Snakes are one thing I can't stand at all. My heart literally jumps out of my body when I see one.
Lily - Oh I have missed you on the boards. It was so great meeting you in January and I hope your pain stays away. Good Luck at Minnie. I can't wait to see pics!
Trimom - WELCOME. I am still trying to lose the baby weight and my youngest is 4 next week. OK I am back to her Pre-PG weight, but I still have more to lose!!! I have 2 girls, 4 and 6 1/2.
Martha - Our yard is a wonderful concoction of every weed possible. This is why I keep adding flower beds... they distract you from the mis-hap of a lawn that we have!!!
OK, girls want a snack and they want it NOW!

The first beautiful weather run of the year:) .
Martha: Do not read this section. You said you didn't want to hear of my great run today so I didn't tell you. That doesn't mean I cannot tell others:rolleyes:
I was at the high school track today and went through 5000 meters in 29:02, 9:21 per mile. I felt energetic so I pushed the pace for another 5000 meters, finishing 10,000 in 56:04, 9:01 per mile. The 2nd 5000 was done in 27:02, 8:42 per mile, and I'm very plesaed with that, but today I learned I'm not as fit as I thought. Miles 4 and 5 weren't hard at that faster pace, but mile 6 was a real strain. As I was getting near the finish I fantasized about going sub-56, and with 200 meters to go I needed 58 seconds over that distance to make it. Unfortunately, it wasn't going to happen today. I thought how nice it would have been to have 1 of you on my shoulder, as with some help i'm sure I could have made it.
Of course at mile 4 I thought about doing 10,550 meters, or 1/2 of the half marathon, and thought I'd make it sub-60. I stopped running at 10,000 meters because my body would not give me 10,001.
Next week is the James Joyce 10K, which I'm really looking forward to, since I DNF'd with a calf injury last year. My vow is to run a lot of races this year so I won't act like such a fool at Disney, and this is #1.
WTG Mel, Lilly, Kristi (in spite of the asthma) and Martha. We're doing our first hot weather runs of the season and they ask a lot more from your body.
And for Mel, I don't perspire and I don't sweat. When I run it pours off of me. I guess that's why heat and humidity on race day means I blow up early and spectacularly. Here' hoping for some level of cool on May 6 in the early morning for you all facing the 15K.
And thanks for the pic of the garage visitor Vic. I'm afraid if either of my 2 ladies saw that they'd make me perform all garage tasks.
Best to all
Craig

Mel – I hope your foot feels better! :wizard:
TriMom – :welcome:
Kiena – Glad your back’s feeling better!
Angie – Hope the 9 Miler went well. Less than two weeks till you’re DONE with school!! Yay! :woohoo:
Vic – Eew! I don’t like snakes. :scared: Not even a little bit.
Craig – Awesome run! WTG! :thumbsup2
Training news? What training news? I'm officially a slug. It's been a week since the 5K, and the motivation has been nonexistent. Guess that means I need to schedule another race!
Hoping to get back at it tomorrow. We'll need to in order to run off the Outback dinner we're going to eat tonight! Yum!

Alright I did manage to slosh through 30 min in the pool, so I can chime in with this week's totals finally. I shortened today's workout both the bike and run, and skipped Friday's swim/run altogether since I felt sore and had the tri on Saturday. Still could have been worse. Total of 80 min swimming, 80 min running (8 miles) and 290 min biking (86.5 miles (!)). 7.5 hours total slightly higher than my previous longest two weeks ago. Also biked/ran 94.5 total miles, which again was a personal best.
My goal for this next week is to not miss any workouts, exercising Tue-Sun solid including a metric century ride on Saturday and a swim/9 mile long run on Sunday which will be the two hard days. It will basically be the first of two peak weeks for my half Ironman training, with the second ending with Minnie weekend where I'll also be doing a long ride the same day as the 5k and swim the same day as the 15k. Busy busy! Then comes taper wee!

Welcome TriMom! You will love "training" with everyone here!
Matt, dude, when do you stop?
Was going to mini brick yesterday (Andrew, I think you asked what this was...It is just like run..bike...run, or swim, bike, swim, or something like that.) but had to go dance. It was an all day thing so got NOTHING in training wise. But I did get paid.:cool1:
So today (after church) I was going to bike around 40 miles, but DH had to stay at work all day for meetings so stayed home and watched Cinderella and Aqua Marine with my DDs. I am lazy! But I did have a show today.
Knee is feeling better and I am getting new shoes tomorrow with the $$$ I made dancing Saturday...No not that kind of dancing.;)

Hello Everyone - Just got back from my LR. What was supposed to be 9 miles turned into 8 running and the last one walking. I don't know what is happening to me, but the heat has REALLY been kicking my but lately.!!:scared1: So at least I made it home and there is always next week. We take the good with the bad right?:confused3
Tiger Lily What an awesome idea!!:rotfl: A MINNIE cap for graduation!! ::MinnieMo My family already thinks I'm a little to obsessed with Disney, that would put the icing on the cake.
Vic I found a smaller version of your pic under my couch when I was vacuuming today, courtesy of my sweet DS'S pirate: pirate: - a fake one :lmao: I LOVE HAVING BOYS!!
KRISI - Sorry your run did not turn out so good, I hope you had fun at the park.
Jen117 pixiedust: Hoping that you will be able to run by Friday. That must be so frustrating for you being so close to your race!!
Craig Great times on your run!! Wow an MIT professor and a speedy runner. (HE HE :rotfl: )
TXAng Hope you enjoyed Outback!! I LOVE OUTBACK!
Shan Good luck on increasing your running time!!
Matt I'm so tired reading your training schedule :scared: You rock.
Christa Your afternoon sounds like heaven to me. I spent my time after church cleaning my house and then a horrible LR
Hopefully I can keep up this week. WISH me luck I have my presentation tomorrow night for my Senior Design Project Class. It's the class where we kind of put together everything we have learned throughout school. It was really cool, we got to design a bridge and now we have to do a formal presentation.
Have a good night!!

I got out yesterday for a quick long run. It wound up being 6 miles and I slowed my pace down a little bit to make sure I didn't hurt myself too bad since I had missed the past 2. It wasn't too bad weather wise although it was way too early. I went out right after the 4:00 feeding since I would have slept through the run otherwise.:rolleyes1
Vic - We have a couple of those in our yard. They get quite irritated when I try to catch them. Lynnda isn't too fond of it either  but Billy loves it. Now I just have to make sure he doesn't try to catch them yet.
Mel - Good job on the run. I hope your foot gets better by Minnie.
Craig - Great job on the run. Thanks for the encouragement as well but I don't think we want to start thinking about college this early. That would imply somehow that I need to start saving for it.
TxAng - Hope you enjoy your meal at Outback. There was a time where all the servers at our knew us by name. :rolleyes1
Christa - Glad you clarified the dancing thing. ;) I hope you enjoyed the time off anyway.
Matt - Way to go on all the training. It sounds like you are going to have a busy time the next couple of weeks.
Lily - Great job on the training. You will have no problems with Minnie.
It seems to be time to feed everyone so I will go. Sorry to all those I missed and welcome to all the new members.

Went out for 4.05 (or 4.00 if you ask the Garmin) miles. I like my SportTracks ave. pace better than the Garmin :rotfl: (16:48 vs. 17:02).
Right around 2 miles, I totally hit a wall. I had spent about 1:45 at the dog park earlier in the day, walking and standing around, but on my feet the whole time. I think by mile 2 on my walk, my legs were a little bummed out. So my paces fluctuated a lot. I had to really ask my legs to turn it on...I went about .5 of a mile at a 13 mpm pace before they gave out on me again:lmao: It's ok. I finished and overall it was a good walk.
Having both the Garmin and SportTracks software is really fun. I went 16.57 miles this past week (M-Sun) and it tells you your ave. pace and fastest pace and all of that. It's a great way to keep track of things :)
Mel When things go right, they just feel so good! I hope your foot heals up soon.
TriMom I am so impressed you have the energy to train when you've got those little ones to look after. Welcome!
Lily No worries! The Minnie's going to go smoothly :) You'll be awesome!
Big Vic That guy is pretty impressive. Not exactly what I want to see coming home from a tough run...
Kristi At least you got out there and did something! i hope the good weather sticks around.
Matt It's so funny--swimming is pretty much the only thing I enjoy...it's the running part that makes me want to die :) All of that work you're doing--it's so impressive!
Craig That sounds like a fantastic run..everything just worked. Nice job!
TXAng I agree, find something fun and sign up! We went to outback last night. They have the best mashed potatoes :)
Angie That mean old sun, it slows everyone down! Still nine miles, however you do them, is not too shabby!
Bill I'm glad you got a run in :)

OK - my first check in!
I biked 12 miles today. The toe strap on my peddle FINALLY broke, and I just had to upgrade to clipless. Today was the first day that I took the bike out for a ride with the new peddles. I AM IN LOVE!!! DH said he knew it would be a bike or a wet suit!;) I am please to announce that I did not bust my face open, or even fall over! - the 2 weeks of praticing clipping in and out on the trainer was time well spent. I will admit that I am a biking whimp and I will not ride outside if the temp is below 60. So this was the first time I have been on the road since last fall. The battery in my computer was dead, so I have no idea what my actual time was, but I am kind of glad, because I just enjoyed the ride. If I had the computer I would have watched pace, tracked cadence and all of the "training" stuff. I just rode my bike today, and I had so much fun on it.
Mel - Don't you just love PR workouts?!
disnutt - glad you are feeling better
angie - congrats on the graduation!!! And I also hope that you ajust quickly to the weather!
Lilly - *giggle* I love summer weather. But I have also been known to run through other peoples sprinklers while on a long run. Great job on the 7 miles
vic - I am terrified of snakes! - Well I am doing better with them since my 3 yo seems to be fond of them, but he has not actually brought one to me yet. WTG on the 5 miles
kristi - hope you can breathe better soon! - Look on the bright side - you got a 5 miler in!
matt - :worship: Ironman 70.3!! I'm so excited for you. I hope to do it in 2009. I think the reason that I disliked the bike so much is because I spent the last 3 months on a trainer.
Martha - just give up and cultive dandilions. I have decided to grow a large crop of wild onions in my front yard - just in case the bird flu hits and we can not get to the grocery store ;) . Seriously though if anyone knows how to kill wild onions - pass the info along. I have put weed killer down 2x to no avail.
Jen - good luck with the blueberries
Bill - you get double points for having to run at 4. Glad you got the run in.
Craig - great job on the speed work - now I know who to ask for help improving my times. I am terrified that DH will beat me at the TOT13K
bekkiz - I will second the vote for 4.05 miles - WTG!

Spring is defintely in the air.
I got whistled at last night while running! Unfortunately, it was by a couple of dorky looking guys.
I knew I was in trouble when DD10 said she liked my shorts and DD6 chimed in "Yeah, they look like girl shorts." Tough crowd!
Add to that the fact that some dude in a big truck blew his horn just as he passed me last week. Made me do that scared little jump-step thing for a stride or two while I tried not to wet myself.
Man, it's getting randy out there. I may have to invest in some mace. :rotfl:

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:
Not too much to report for me. I had my LR on Saturday of 7 miles. I tried to go nice and slow, but ended up running it in 1:03 for 9:00 mpm. I was excited that I ran race pace and if felt easy, but I did want to run a little slower. I'm tapering for the Flying Pig 1/2 Marathon.
Rest day yesterday, but I did run 2 miles with my princesses, DD6 princess: and DD9 princess:, as part of their 5K training. That was the farthest they've run, and as a reward I gave them each a little strechy bracelet that I bought from Fleet Feet. The bracelets are made by African children, and the money goes back to the village.
OK, work's crazy busy for me too. I have another grant that I'm working on, and I'm trying to get data for the grant before the due date. Busy, busy...

Just a quick drive by...
TriMom--I know what you mean. I LOVE my clipless pedals, too. Glad you didn't have any "episodes" with them. The first time I took mine out for a spin, I ended up having the worst wipeout of my short biking life. It wasn't exactly because of the pedals, but I'd like to blame it on them. :rolleyes1 I still kind of giggle when I see someone with clipless pull up to a stop sign and forget they're clipped in and struggle frantically to unclip before gravity and lack of balance take their toll. :) (Only because I know the exact feeling).
Vic--NO MORE SNAKE PICS! I consider myself adequately brave for a 30 year old man, but I turn into a 4 year old girl around snakes. You almost made me jump into bed from 10 feet away last night for fear that one was under the bed. :scared1: Did I mention that I'm not fond of snakes?
Dave/Carrie--sorry works been so busy for you guys. Same here, too. It would be nice to get a chance to breathe soon.
Mel--WTG on the 8 mile PR!!! Hope your foot feels better soon.
Craig--nice job, speedy! It's funny, whenever you return from a track run, I can tell you're either going to post a really good run or a really bad one. The devil must wait for you at the high school parking lot and sit on your shoulder for the whole workout. "Craig, Craig, go faster. No, faster. FASTER!!...." :thumbsup2 Nice job on that pace!
Not too crazy with regards to workouts yesterday. Got in 30 miles on the bike in the early AM. Forgot how cold an early morning ride can be and I was sure that I was going to end up with frostbite on my fingers (wore the fingerless gloves, mistake number #1 in the cold weather). But it was a good ride nonetheless. Then spent the afternoon working on the yard. Figured the neighbors would appreciate it if our lawn height approximately matched theirs give or take 10 inches or so. ;)
Ok, gotta go work now. :sad2: Hope to catch up with you guys later. Have a great Monday, everyone!

Okay--my race season resolution is to do more personal posts...so y'all....post slow!!:thumbsup2
For now though--it is just AAM....
I am 4 weeks post partum and finally felt the call to get moving....
Got on the treadmill and walked "only":upsidedow a mile.....actually 1.04 miles in my 20 minute workout. My top speed was 4.1...that is sub-15:00. So glad that my 9 months (literally) off hasn't slowed me down too much.:woohoo:
Probably could have walked longer--but hubby was whining about something like going to work....MEN!:rolleyes1
Icing my knee right now--it feels like it is thinking about how to get back going. Never bothered me--but then the sudden weight loss from having baby....and then my now plateaued for 2 weeks stuck point (not that I am worried or anything)--and it just started acting silly.
In any case....

Vic - OOOOOO a black racer! DD6.5 calls them a black razor!:lmao: Anywho...we have a few of those here but mainly COPPERHEADS! I had to go all kung fu on one last year b/c it was too close to my princess: princess: . That copper head didn't know what hit him!....I chopped that snake into a million pcs.:rolleyes1
Will bike today. Hope to go btwn 30 and 40 miles...maybe 35? :confused3 Maybe to the running store or near the running store to get my new running shoes. Then I will hit the pavement or trails to RUN!
Speaking of bike!

Morning team. Didn't get any xtraining done yesterday--unless coffee drinking at Starbucks is considered training (cam might agree with me!;) )But after church and coffee with the parents, time got away from me. DH had to be at work last night at 4, so no training for me.
I'm using an intermediate training plan from Higdon for hte Minnie. And he doesn't give you much, if any, taper. :confused3 Scheduled to do 10 miles this weekend. Guess it's good for my marathon base. So, I'm living vicariously through ya'll that have some taper madness!
Today, I'll probably double up,though. Gonna try to hit the gym for some xtraining (for real this time),maybe the elliptical or bike and then some weights. Then this evening will be running clinic. My parents are coming up to watch the kiddos, so no worries there.
Lisa--WTG on getting back to walking so quick after L/D. :thumbsup2 PD for your knee--hoping it was just a fluke!
Mike (optimator)--Here's me reading your post:lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: Our resident comedian!
Well, I better go--gotta get my last kid, I mean DH, out of bed. Have agreat Monday all. And to all who have WTO right now:wizard: and:hug:

Good morning!
Started week 3 of 13 this morning. I had to up my running time to 3 minutes from 2 of last week and then walk 2.
I prayed I could do it and it went well!
Nike+ had me at 4.13 miles with an average pace of 12:08... Hey! If I keep that up maybe I won't get picked up by the sweeper bus! :woohoo:
I was looking ahead and I don't increase my running time again until week 6?!? Looks like I cut down on my walking time though to a minute in week 5.
Angie - Good luck on your presentation tonight! :goodvibes

Yesterday was a rest today for me, although as we all know, rest days aren't REALLY rest days! While Stephen did the yardwork, I did laundry and cleaned the house. Nothing super serious, just wiped off the kitchen counters and dusted. Tonight I have 3 miles--I love the taper!!!!!
Mike--Girl shorts??? Were they pink? :lmao: Oh, I know, I know, it was a running skirt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Vic--UGH!!!! :scared: :scared: :scared: I'll join everyone else in yelling "I HATE SNAKES!!!!!!!"
Christa--Riiiiight, it's not "that" kind of dancing. ;)
Craig--Your run sounds awesome! Congrats! I'm still laughing about you saying that Matt looked like a giant condom!!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
Kristi--I hope you are feeling better!!!!! I'm so glad I don't have to deal with any asthma or allergy issues.
Mel--Your run sounds great! I love it when everything just falls into place and you have a perfect run.
TriMom--Welcome!!!!!! Stephen (my DH--skfulkers) is just getting into doing tri's, so I'm sure he'll be hitting you up for lots of info. Your bike ride sounds awesome, makes me almost want to get into biking. And then I look at the scars on my knees from tripping over my feet while running. If I can't handle 6.0 mph, how in the world can I handle 25?
Angie--I think it's funny that a Floridian can't handle the FL heat! ;) When I was running on Saturday and it was 80 degrees and it felt like I was going to puke with every step I took, I thought to myself, "I'm sure glad I'm not doing the Minnie, running in FL in May?? NO WAY!!!" Good luck!!
Carrie--Good to see you back. I was just getting ready to send to dogs out for you!!

Good morning!
Ok, no more snake pictures. :rolleyes1 Steve – ya big sissy! :rotfl:
Seems I aggravated something in my left foot. I’ve had a touch of PF for a while, but it never bothered me that much. When I finished my run yesterday the bottom of my foot hurt, and it’s continued hurting. It’s right at the top of the arch, inside portion of the foot, and extends back to the heel. Guess I’ll stay off of it for a few days and see what happens.
Kristi – Good job with the 5 miles. Hope you're feeling better.
Martha – Biking and leaf raking. Great XT.
Jenn – Hope the foot is doing ok.
Craig – Great job and a great pace!
TXAng – Whatcha have for dinner at Outback?
Matt – You’re a machine!
Angie – Great job with the LR and good luck with your presentation.
Bill – WTG with the LR. Glad to hear the family is doing well.
Bekkiz – Keep up the great training!
Carrie – WTG with the 8 miler!
TriMom – Great job with the 12 miles on the bike.
Mike(Optimator) – You sexy thing, you! ;) :rotfl2:
Dave – WTG with the 7 miler.
Lisa – Welcome back!
Christa – I don’t do copperheads either. We don’t see a lot of snakes around the house, and I always check them out when they come around. Don’t want the boys to have an encounter. Earnhardt would probably leave it alone. Dusty, on the other hand, would wind up getting bit.
Dancing for money, Hmmmmmmmmmm. :woohoo: ;)
Susie – Hash House Harriers, a drinking club with a running problem. :lmao:
Shan – Great job with the training!
Krista – I guess pictures of the snake exhibit at the Army Ranger camp is out of the question? :confused3
CrazySecretRecipe – WTG with the 5 miler! Watch out for those gators.
Take care.

VIC - Oh the Foot! Take care of it so you don't end up like me having to take a week plus off. It am so antsy it's not even funny!!! I took the strapping off my foot this morning because it was loose and my foot itched something fierce. The inflamation bump is gone, but it is still tender. The podiatrist is having me ice with a frozen water bottle, roll it with your arch. It's been working for me! GOOD LUCK!
Krista and Carrie - I dusted this weekend also. My DD turns 4 on Sunday, so I am being forced to clean and dust and all those other fun things so that I am not embarrassed by my relatives coming over!
We are having a Sponge Bob party and I am struggling for ideas. We are serving Crabby Patty Hamburgers and a pineapple with fruit dip. That's all I have for ideas!

Just a quick post - supposed to be working on presentation ( Have I mentioned that I have absolutely no motivation to do anymore school work at this point :lmao: )
Krista - Native Floridian - HATES THE HEAT!!!:headache: Just frustrating because the weathere makes or breaks my run, I have a really hard time overcoming it. ON the other hand, being that the MINNIE is the morning after I graduate I think I will float across the finish line.
Lily - Picked up cap and gown today, pondering how to turn the cap into MINNIE ears. :rotfl2:
Shan - That's awesome I knew you could do it!!!
Gotta go, catch everyone else later.
BTW Stephanie There are so many conflicting suggestions out there about tapering. We did 9 the week before we did our second 1/2 marathon and this is only a 15k but I know I tend to push myself too much. I don't know what I am going to do, because I was thinking of doing another LR before MIINNIE but that will only be a week before :confused3 . Let me know if you get any good advice.

It's 1:00 here at 84 degrees! OK, that's plenty hot. It's supposed to cool off by the end of the week, but no really cold stuff. I'm bettin' we will get colder before it's all over. Mother nature just keeping us in line.

Angie--isn't is funny that we can now say "only a 15K!":goodvibes I'm just gonna keep with the plan DH and I have been following. Can't have him show me up this LR. So, I'll be doing 10 miles either Friday or Sunday--with the obligatory 3-5 mile runs during the week up until we leave next Friday. We'll see what happens. The 15K distance will probably be easy for me to PR no matter what, b/c the only other one I've done was in a 30mph headwind! Gotta love these less popular distances for PRs!

Greetings Team - Well, I have bad news, but it may end up being good news.
I did 9.3 miles on Saturday morning, which was my plan. It went really well (No ankle/foot/knee/anything pain! :woohoo: ) until 7.5 or so. Then it was like somebody shut off the gas. I got a tremendous headache and my heart was pounding like it wanted out. I got light-headed and disoriented.
Although I was only five minutes from the house I was thinking I should call Charlie to come get me. I probably should have, but I didn't. Anyway, I went home, took 2 Advils, and had breakfast, even though I was kinda nauseous.
Sunday I felt fine, did hours and hours of work outside. No problem. Then today I was getting ready for work and I started feeling the same way. So I called my doctor and she said come right in. So I'm just back from there. Seems I have TREMENDOUSLY HIGH blood pressure. WOW! What's up with THAT? :confused3 It's always been textbook perfect! In a way, I am actually happy to hear it, though. Because it explains the way I have been feeling, plus it's better than what I was thinking. This may explain why I passed out after the Half too. She took an EKG which was fine, and also about a gallon of blood to run tests. But I NEED to lose weight now, for REAL! And also eliminate salt. OK, as much as I will morn the chips and guacamole, I can do that. I still have to get a monitor and wear it for 24 hours, but OK, this is better than a lot of other things I was thinking I had. :goodvibes
Vic - Wow, what did you do about the snake? Or if it was something bad, maybe I don't want to know. I think snakes are kinda cool, although I much prefer them in their own environment, not our house.
Krista - I too can't believe you have Chub Rub. Honey, I don't remember you having any chub at all! ;)
Jen - We gardened with gusto when we first bought our house almost three years ago. Then the deers showed us who's in charge. So now, we visit the local produce mart, and well, stick some fake flowers around the yard. I try not to smile when people tell me how lovely my daffodils look.

Vic-- I can't even handle seeing pictures of snakes on the screen:scared1: I have a theory as to why. My dad was in grad school when I was a baby. He was a bio-chem major and loved to dissect things. We went for a day trip in the Colorado Rockies and he found what he believed was a dead bull snake (~6 feet) and snuck it into the trunk of the car. (My Mom is beyond afraid of snakes). Well, it turned out the snake was not dead. When My mom picked me up, the snake was curled up under me. I was too young to remember, but I bet her response got seared into my brain for life:rotfl2: I'm sorry your foot hurts.
Martha-- I got my run in today before it reached 80. Our blood is too thick for this mega transition!!!!
Mel-- way to go on the PR.
Kristi-- no more second hand smoke for you! You're in training! (Hope you feel better).
Lynnda-- Happy B-day:dance3:
Angie-- I didn't realize graduation was the day before Minnie. You must be flying high!:cheer2:
Here's my training report:
My 20 miler became a 19 miler. At least I'm consistent! My last 3 LRs have come up short.
My splits:
01 13:02
02 12:43
03 12:34
04 13:02
05 13:13
06 12:22
07 12:47
08 12:25
09 13:02
10 12:49
11 18:16 oh dear! The ads say America runs on DD, but my coffee break turned into a two mile leisurely stroll through Lexington ctr!
12 17:22
13 13:22
14 12:11
15 14:15
16 12:50 nice to see I still had a decent split left at mile 16!
17 15:02
18 14:43
19 17:26 17+ is forgivable here, it includes cool down.
Ave pace 13:52
Some post-processing analysis suggests if I didn't take that extended leisure walk at mile 11 & 12, I would have averaged 13:28 (assuming those two miles were 14:00 instead of ~18). I'm pretty sure I could have maintained the rest of my endurance if I had been more careful. That's important to me because 13:28 is just below the pace cut-off for the 6hr requirement.
I went for my scheduled 5 miler at 10AM and it ended up being 4.6 due to poor planning. I was disappointed on my pace (12:36). I did 10:49 for my 5miler race. It's amazing what a difference the race environment makes on one's perceived exertion.
So based on my training, I'm just going to have to meet with the race director and explain that 26.2 needs to become 24.0!

Good job on the distance, now get the BP under control. Do you think the same thing happened to you last January?
However, it's time for some bold talk, here is my publicly stated goal for the ToT run on October 27. 13,000 meters = 8.08 miles. What would be a nice goal for that distance? I know, how about sub-70 minutes which means 8:39 per mile? Who among this scurvy crew has the innards (staying with the Blackbear's Ghost pirate: theme) to do this with me? Or perhaps better stated, to pull me through the course. I'm looking for volunteers, and will be pestering and lobbying once September arrives. Step up and do it with me. You know you want to.
Also, I'll be in Orlando the weekend before the ToT race. My profession's annual conference is October 18-20, so I'll get to/have to make the round trip 2 successive weeks. Too bad the conference isn't the weekend of the race and I could get the College to cover my flight and hotel:thumbsup2 .
7 days ago it was 40 degrees with driving rain. Today it's well over 80 with high blue sky. I've never gone through a season so fast.

Hello.
Just checking in. Did a 14 mi LW on Sunday. The weather was 45 degrees when I started and 75 by the time I finished. I was rather disappointed in my time (3:07, for a 13:25 pace). I hope I can be faster than that in my upcoming HM.
One thing's for sure: I defintely need new shoes. The ones I have are 8 months old and have already completed 2 HMs. They must have 800 miles on them. Now I'm nervous about whether or not I can find time to buy new ones before the event on 5/6. And, if I'm able to buy them, will they be too new to wear in a HM?

Judy and Mel--Thanks for doubting that I have enough chub to rub, as I'm feeling pretty self-conscious right now. One of the ladies in our order entry dept asked me today if I was pregnant!! I'm 5'1 and I weigh 115--does that sound like someone who would be mistaken for being pregnant to you?? I looked at her like :confused3 :confused3 :confused3, when she saw my face, she started apologizing and then (this is good) she TOUCHED my stomach and said "well, that dress you're wearing makes it look like you have a little belly".  I guess I have to start doing my crunches again! Or wear super baggy clothes to hide my "little belly". :sad2: :sad2:

I let him be. Don't know where he went after is photo shoot. :confused3
Now, get that blood pressure under control young lady! That's an order!
Congrats on the 9.3.
Yes, Sir, Your Honor, Officer, Sir!! :scared:
Funny thing is, I'm so relieved to find out what it is. And that's it something I can get control of. Yay!
Craig - Yes, it might be what happened to me when I passed out in January. :confused3
Martha - Notice how Craig said he would serve under your direct orders? If I were you...I'd take full advantage of that. :rolleyes1
Krista - Please. Just slap her. One of my legs weighs as much as you do! She's delerious.

Krista - OMG, that woman is a nut case! BTW, I had chub rub when I was 115 ppounds and 5'8". I don't really think it's the chub, just the way we're made. That's whY I always use compression pants.
Craig - Sorry, no taker here. You have fun with that time, though. (That's me as you leave me in your dust) Oh wait, I have to get there to be in your dust. :p
Shan - You'll get there. You'll eb amazed by this time next year, probably even sooner, but what you say "only" to.
Sunny - OMG! Did your mom kill your dad after that???? I think you'll be just fine come race day. Way to go!

Jen - Thanks for the idea about the frozen water bottle. I'm going to try that, and not run tomorrow or Thursday. I'm supposed to run a 5K on Saturday. We'll see how it goes this week.
Martha - Have a good week.
Craig - As far as the ToT run, I'll be with you in spirit. Don't see a sub 9-minute mile in my future.
Sunny - Alrighty then. Wonder what words of wisdom your mom gave to your dad. :lmao: Great job with the 19 miler!
Kelley - Great job with the 13 miler!
Shan - You're going to do just fine. :thumbsup2

I haven't caught up on all the posts yet, but wanted to let you know how my LR went on saturday. We had absolutely beautiful weather! I did 8 miles, average pace 13:40. Not bad! My first mile I did in 11:20 - wish I could maintain that pace. The first 4 miles were great, but when we turned around all of a sudden the wind picked up and boy was it hard coming back. I had to go to my sister-in-law's baby shower right after, so I brought an ice pack and sat there icing my leg the whole time. Got quite a few strange looks. But I had no leg pain the next day!! Unlike last weekend's LR.
Ok, gonna go catch up on reading these posts. Congrats to all on your hard work! :)

Hello Everyone,
I think I may have strained my quad during my hill w/o last Thursday. It started bothering me a bit on Friday just walking around the house and when I went for a run on Sat it really hurt. I've been icing and taking Ibu since then. I think I'll rest it until Wed. I have a 10K on Sunday so I'm hoping it's better by then.
Craig: This is a pretty good map for calculating running routes along the Charles. It is one of my favorite places to run. I especially like the section from Mass Ave to the Sci Mus on the Cambridge side. The view of Boston is great. No matter what the weather you always see someone else running there. I find it just has an electric feel to the air.
http://www.math.harvard.edu/~knill/run/region.html
Krista: I cannot believe someone actually asked you that. I think it should definately be on the top 5 questions you NEVER ask someone.
Kristi: Glad you enjoyed the show. Sorry your run was so hard. Hope the park was better.
Martha: Sorry your run was such a stonker. You've not been feeling well lately so maybe you can chalk it up to that.
Jen117: Good luck with resting your foot.
Matt: Good luck with all the training you've got planned this week.
TriMom: Welcome. Good luck with your wt loss.
Angie: Sorry you had a tough run, but you seem to have a good attitude about it.
Shan: Congrats on your w/o.
Vic: Good luck with your sore foot.
Judy: Take care of yourself. I hope the BP problems are solved quickly.
Sunny: Congrats on your LR. I can't believe you can drink coffee mid-run. I don't think my stomach could handle that.
Best wishes to all I've missed.

First for a training update: I realized it has been quite a while since I last checked in!! Yesterday, i did my last LR before my half which is this Sunday! I did 12 miles in 2:03. I jogged the first 10 miles and then I walked a mile and then jogged the last two. I really think I am ready for my race, I am really excited!! I am not sore at all today!! I will do a couple of short runs this week just to stay loose.
Now to attempt to catch up with everyone!!

Now to catch up!!
Andrew, Bekkiz, Dave, Krista, Judy, Cindy--Thanks for the encouragement about my race!! I am finally getting excited for the race as opposed to being nervous!!
Susie--Hope the 5k went well this weekend!
Matt--love the pictures from your Tri! You don't even look like you are tired in any of those pictures!!
Jen--sorry to hear about your foot. Sending some :wizard: that it is better really soon! That is great that this rest gives you more time to spend with your kids...enjoy that time!!
Mel--nice job on your run! Sorry to hear your foot was bothering you, hope it feels better soon.
TriMom-Welcome to the Boards!! You will love it here!!
Angie--Sorry to hear the heat is getting bad down there. Hang in there! I hope your presentation went well today.
Lily-nice job on your run! Glad to hear the leg wasn't too bad!
Vic--YIKES!!! I wouldn't be staying long enough near that thing to take a picture...I would be running so fast away!!!
Craig--WOW!! Awesome job on your run! You are very speedy!
TxAng--schedule another race!! That is great motivation to stick to the training!! I know it helps me alot.
Bill--DO you mean 4am??? YIKES! I couldn't even imagine running that early in the morning.
Mike--:rotfl: Love the story about your run and your daughter's comments!!
Dave--WOAH! Nice run and an awesome pace!!
Lisa--WTG for getting back into some training!
Stephanie--I am following the Higdon plan too, but I have liked it so far, I am interested to see if not having any taper will affect me. I feel great today after my LR yesterday, so far so good!

disnutt--I love those quotes in RW. I just read that article again yesterday, it is awesome.
Judy-Please take care of yourself!

Personals:
Mel: Wow--not sure what GERD is...but sounds icky if you are taking migraine ills for it. Awesome pace though :thumbsup2 . Sub 12:00 is excellent (you are faster than I was...:sad1: ).
Trimom: Welcome!!! Congrats on your new baby! I had mine 4 weeks ago and I won't *cough* discuss *cough* how much *cough* I need to lose....but I am NOT a happy camper!:rotfl: I must have been living under a rock..but Olympic distance tri at WDW!!! Good luck to you!
disnutt/kiena: Hey--car washing = cross training. :woohoo: OMG...just love the quote from the Olympian....I think I fall into his description quite accurately.
angietuck2: What are you graduating from? Hope the 9 miler went well! Pg 2: Okay--guess you didn't do that...well hey...8 miles is wonderful especially in Florida heat. GL on your presentation!
Lily: Long time no see! Are you still wogging? Good luck with the Minnie!
Big Vic: Keep the snake photos to yourself!!!! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: Hmmm....wonder if they would make a good training partner.... For your foot..I have a foot wheel massager that I use--I will say it hurts like heck when you use it...but it was created for folks with PF and it works out that part of the foot and then you are pain free. I get that all the time after lenghty workouts and it fixes it right up. My coach who is also a PT--also said you can take a water bottle and freeze it and roll it on the bottom of your foot.
Kristi: Sorry about the Asthma--wow! That must have been rough! The time looks awesome though!
Matt: Trainer? So your turned a regular bike into an exercise bike? Too cool! Hope you recovered well from your workouts. Pg 2: "slosh"--aren't you supposed to swim? ;) Good luck with your goal this week! I have a neighbor who competed in an Ironman in the panhandle somewhere. He did very well. Also have a friend whose sister has done the Ironman in Hawaii.
Martha: Good luck with Minnie!
Jen: Well I hope your foot is heeling. It stinks when you can't do much but sounds like you had a wonderful day with the kids! Hmm....couldn't find food ideas...but here are some game ideas on this link: http://www.amazingmoms.com/htm/party_spongebob.htm

Food ideas from this link included:

Pink Patrick Lemonade Punch
Gary Goop (Blue Jello Jigglers)
Krusty Krab Mini Burgers (traditional hamburgers),

Plankton Kabobs (fresh fruit arranged on skewers)
More ideas: http://www.kids-birthday-party-guide.com/spongebob-birthday-party.html
HTH..goodluck!!
Calcio: Sounds like you had a great run. Thanks for the vote of confidence. :thumbsup2
TxAng: Hey--recovering from a 5K, eh? Well enjoy that dinner at Outback!
Shan: You live in Atlanta? Which part (don't be too specific ;)). I have a BIL who lives in Marietta. Pg 2: I don't see a sweeper bus in your future..that is an excellent pace in week 3 of training!
Christa: You got paid to dance? Are there some details about your career you need to share with the rest of the class?:rolleyes1 JUST KIDDING! Didn't know you danced though...and hey--shoe money. I get my new shoes next week. :woohoo:
Bill: Wait a minute...Space Coast? Where do you live? I am beachside in Melbourne! How's the baby?
Bekkiz: Take care of those legs! But hey-wall or no wall...you finished and did good.
Mike: Hmm...time for new shorts?? LOL! (you're not running in a speedo, are you???)
Dave: Wow--your 6yo went 2 miles...do tell how you got her to that point. Mine still tries to run like a graceful ballerina. Goes for about 100 feet and then she's done. I really want her to do the 5K in January.
Steve: Good job on teh ride. My hubby needs to mow the lawn as well. Unfortunately he doesn't have the excuse of training to get in his way.
Stephanie: My knee has been bothering me since I had him--I think it was a sudden weight shift combined with lack of exercise during my pregnancy (too sick and then too tired)....so I think it is in an adjustment period. It actually felt fine on the treadmill today. Starbucks---works the biceps as you raise the coffee cup to sip it. ;)
Susie: That is funny! We have a local race that is by invitation only and the application reads quite funny. Basically talks about the nonsense of competing and the fact that there are no rewards or anything...I think 7 people run it. Of course it is something like 100 miles in circles around a park....but through the "wild" part of the park--so essentially a trail race...on crack!!! Oh--and the fact that there really isn't a "trail" that the average human being would even consider walking on.
Krista: Rest....what is this "rest" that everyone speaks of? Baby is doing well! Yes I am looking forward to goofy...still have NOT figured out how I will pull that off though except I conned...umm...I mean encouraged hubby and sis to sign up for the weekend so sister is running the half with me and hubby the full. I never new I was good at Motivational sneaking...I mean..speaking.:rolleyes1
Jennifer: "Prey flailing around in distress" :rotfl: :rotfl: 5 in 52...another Wish Speed Demon...WTG!!!
Judy--Wow! Please take care of yourself!! Glad everything seems to be okay though and you are here to post about it.
Becky: That pace is wonderful! Keep up the good work. Icing at a baby shower---the things we do for our sport!
Cindylou: oh my...I hope your quad starts feeling better.
Laurie: Yeah! WTG...Good luck in your race this weekend.
Okay--I do not know how all you folks do it. You talk too much!!! :scared1: It took me an hour to go through just 4 pages. Whew!!! Okay--that must mean I need to be more diligent about checking in. But my fingers have now been adequately cross trained for today.:thumbsup2
Wow it just occurred to me that we will be at Disney in 2 weeks--though just for the day on Saturday...hmmm...maybe if I see some lime green wishers, I will say hello! We will be at Magic Kingdom.
Today I booked POFQ for marathon weekend for myself and my sister. :woohoo:

As you can see my whole secret has been given away... Make sure you never have either foot touching the ground! Note: Keeping my cycling shorts on during the run was not intentional. ;)
Edit: So far I've done tris of about 300 ppl and 360 ppl or so...
The Ironman 70.3 Florida just sold out, I'm now officially one of TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED TWENTY EIGHT!?!? (and that's assuming everyone is already showing up under "participants") :scared1:

Lisa - Welcome back!
Vic - PD for the foot. Hoping you're not joining the PF club!
Jen - Just imagine if we never had company how thick the dust would get...
Judy - So glad you went to the doctor and found out what's going on. Now do what she says! I need you on the TM in the mornings! And GREAT SPLITS, btw.
So based on my training, I'm just going to have to meet with the race director and explain that 26.2 needs to become 24.0!
Sunny :rotfl2:
Craig - You can't manage to stay in Orlando for the week in between?
Kelley - I'd buy new shoes, but see what everyone else says!
Mike - Maybe you need new running gear? :rotfl:
Where's Jim/Scuba Diver?
What is this weather? Ran 3.3 miles tonight after work - 38:24. It was only 80 degrees, but after Saturday's 50 degrees at 8:00AM, I understand what Krista meant about feeling like puking with every step. My problem was breathing. Saturday I could run 4-5 minutes, then walk 1... today I ran 2, walked 2 for almost the entire 3 miles. Funny that my avg pace was 12:42 on Sat, 11:39 tonight! I guess I really am running faster, and I know I was walking faster. Or maybe the Garmin was just being nice to be since I think it cheater me on Saturday?

Hi everyone, I slacked off yesterday and didn't do any XT, unless vacuuming counts as XT. This evening I got 30 min of upper body weights in. Tomorrow I have a 5 mile run planned, and it is supposed to be 65 deg! Did I mention that it snowed last week?? Tomorrow it will be more like summer! :beach: (Yup, mid to high 60s feels like summer to me now!)
OK, my stomach is rumbling, so time to make some dinner and settle in to watch game 7 of the Vancouver Canucks vs the Dallas Stars...

I decided to turn up my training to pick up speed from my plodding waddle. So today, I stepped back to a 3 minute walk + 1 minute run pattern, but at a rate just over 90 seconds faster per minute on the walks and 2 minutes faster per minute for the runs. I am looking forward to finding out where I will be around the end of next month.
Susie - thanks for posting the race app
lenshanem - great job on the pace! and you will be surprised how good you will feel after 10K for the first time
Laurie - good luck in your race this weekend

I intended to do 2 miles today, at a good clip. I was feeling pretty good at the turn around point, so I continued another .5 mile. I pushed myself for the first two miles (14:58 and 14:21 splits) and then went at a slower pace for the last mile (17:20). Still, it's an ave. of 15:35 for the 3 miles, and way better than where I had hoped I'd be at this point..so I'm happy:) And a little sunburned. It was nice out today!
I hope everyone is enjoying their training and doing well! I love the encouragement from such a great group of people!

Just a quick check in:
Little Bit ( 16 mo DS) was sick last night. I was up from 3 - 5:45 am. I had to scrap my swim this morning becuase we couldn't go to the gym - I refuse to share germs. But I did get a run in before dinner tonight. I did 3 miles in 32:25 which is a pace of 10:48. I was a little bummed because my current goal pace is 9:55. I never did feel "good" on the run - I had to mentally push through the whole thing. But the victory in the situation was that I got out the front door. I was so tired, and I really didn't want to run in the first place.
OK - I am off to bed now, so no personal posts - but I did read them all, and everyone keep up the good work!

Well, got all my training done today. Did 30 min on the elliptical and then 30 min. weight training this am. And then 3.25 miles in 27:11 this evening. It definitely was a training run to get me ready for Florida--Holy cow was it humid. I looked like I had just finished swimming after my run I was so covered in sweat! supposed to get 6 in tomorrow--not likely--but we'll see
vic--thought about you tonight when one of our clinic directors was talking about stepping on a snake while running yesterday. I told her that I was just going to run with my eyes closed, then. So just make sure I don't run into anything;)
matt--woohoo--you are flying!!!:rotfl:
Lisa--what a massive post! You go!
Okay, should go! Have a great night all!

Very eventful day for me! I did manage to get some training in which is amazing! I mt. biked a new trail this morning. After that, I picked the boy up from preschool early and took him to the Dr. for his kindergarten phys and shots. we were there for two hours and the fire alarm went off so we all had to leave the bldg. Boy almost passed out (i'm not using this as a figure of speech) when they drew blood. He became limp and his face was white. He went from talkative to almost silent. It was pretty horrible. Then at the end of our 2 hours, he got his vaccinations. I don't even have to describe that to you. It was, of course, horrible too! We left the Dr. to go to buy him some bravery toys! On the way, Phil called me and basically had still heard nothing from his dr. from his tests. He ended up getting the information himself and when he did, he learned that the results had been back since last Wed!!!! His tests came back as good as they could for his current condition. That was great news. I'm still pretty unimpressed w/ the Dr. though! When you mention removing significant body parts and cancer to people who have already had cancer, and promise to call when the biopsy is back, YOU SHOULD DO IT!! Anyway, I'm just figuring that Dr. has never been sick himself, so has no way to relate. I did figure that since phil is a collegue and a potential referral source for this guy that he might communicate a little better. I know phil does w/ his patients! (enough about that!!) The news from the biopsy was good and we can relax about that. Then.... I'm getting brave boy ready for his little ninja's class and as i'm closing the door, I feel a piece of metal poke me from under the door handle, then i think it is a wasp sting. I look under the handle and out crawls a HUGE spider!!! It bit me! I had no idea that that is what a bite from spider fangs felt like. So, i trapped it in some tupperware, drop boy off at little ninja's and go to phils work to show the dr. there who is the spider expert. We are still not sure exactly what kind of spider it was. It looked like a hobo spider. They are poisionous to humans, but we shuld not have them in our area. Hopefully, it was just a really mean funnel web grass spider!! If i dont post a lot this week, it is b/c my finger is rotting off!!! I actually think i'll probably be fine, but that really GROSSED me out and I've basically reached my threshold for emotional stress today!
All that being said, thank you for all the prayers and well wishes re: phils test results. We are very appreciative and thankful that they came back good!
Hopefully, I will get to run or ride tomorrow. I think it is supposed to rain. If so, maybe i'll go to the gym and swim!!

Geez, between Vic's pic of the basilisk and Melissa's talk about getting bit by a spider makes me want to look into hermatically sealing myself. UUGGHHH.
Craig - I would not be left in your dust after your speed training. No, the dust would have settled and been washed away by the rain later that day, then I would come plodding through. Great run!
Minnie - Great shots!
TriMom - Welcome to the Team!
Mel - Your run makes me recall that Lightning McQueen post. Great Job!
Judy - Watch that Blood Pressure! Or more specifically, watch it go down.
TexAng Outback? Man, I just drooled on my keyboard. Now Jen is probably going to bring up brats again.
Jen - Hope your foot gets to feeling better! Does your Doc recommend wearing the new inserts for your upcoming race? Or easing into them. I'm not very party creative, sorry. I would just end up recommending serving goldfish cracker. It is the snack that smiles back, after all.
kiena - wax on , wax off....yep that qualifies as XT. Strike first, strike hard, no mercy!
Sunny - Good job getting in 19 more miles than you would have if you just stayed at home!
Krista - You should have touched her cheek and said, "Well, this face makes you look a little stupid." I'm sorry, I'm evil.
Christa - Thanks for the clarification. Sounds like you had a more productive afternoon at home.
Angie - Hope your presentation went well. Too bad about the humidity. It's not bad (at least compared to FL) here in Iowa, but last year during the major road race here in town (Bix 7), it was sooo humid, that there were record number of people dropping and being taken to the hospital.
Bill - Now that's dedication, running after the early morning bottle/baby juggle!
bekkiz - Good job getting your walk in!
Carrie - Hope you can dig out soon!
Mike - :rotfl: :rotfl: I really hope they didn't tell you that you had a purty mouth.
Dave - Great run! And you took time off your rest day to run with your DD's and what a great reward. You are awesome!
Steve - Just let the lawn go and buy yourself one of those Mickey Ear Pith Helmets from AK. Great ride!
Well quick trainin gnote and off to bedd for night night:
After work, got on the TM and ran 2 miles...origianlly going to run 3min, walk 2 min, but felt really good, had a decent three days at work, so I ran it. Afterwards an ab routine and a nice stretch.
See you all tomorrow!
Happy Training!
Vic - No more snake pics! I'm gonna have nightmares tonight.:scared1:

Andrew - A post this good requires some discussion:
Hermetically sealing yourself? 1. Didn't your mother warn you that you'll go blind doing that? or 2. Isn't that illegal in Iowa? or 3. Not sure about that but my former boss loved to tell the story of a veterinarian friend of his that performed his own vasectomy. Kind of the same thing?
"Well, this face makes you look a little stupid." - Classic, simply classic! I was thinking of something a little less imaginative like Krista's face getting all twisted up :headache: and her driving one of her spikey heels that she likes to wear into the offending idiot's foot.
"Bottle/Baby juggle" - Is that like the chainsaw, bowling ball, apple juggle? I think one of those guys on The Boardwalk use to do the Bottle/Baby juggle until an unfortunate incident that Disney still denies ever happened.
"Purty mouth" - Good line, but actually he said, and I quote "Run slower! Punish me!" No kidding. Creepy!
You gotta love the Mickey pith helmet. Matches well with the "Is that you Tigger" Pooh shirt. Do you think if Steve lets the grass go long enough he will be able to find that stilt walking lady Devine (sp?) that sometimes hangs out in Asia at AK? I may have to book a flight to Cincy!!
Thanks again Andrew!!
Christa - Quite a stir with the dancing for money comment. I was just going to ask if you paid for your new shoes with dollar bills.
Vic - What they said about the snake!!
Judy - Take care of yourself. My BP was up a little at my appt last week. I attribute it to anticipation of the date I had with Mr. Rubber Glove and his friend, K-Y jelly!
On that happy note, farewell all.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:
I did 3 miles yesterday after work. I'm in taper mode, so I don't think I'm going to do more than 3 miles on my runs this week. However, I did it in 26:50 min/8:48 mpm. I ran negative splits, and my last mile was in 8:05 min. Whoopsie, I need to slow down for my recovery before the Pig.
Judy- I needed to say make sure you take care of yourself and get your blood pressure down.
Melissa- I am so happy that Phil's biopsy came back negative. That is great news. Take care of that finger and boy of yours.
Lisa- My princesses, DD6 princess: and DD9 princess:, have been training for a 5K for about 5 weeks now. We do running/walking intervals, and I do many forms of bribes/incentives to keep them going. The 5K is totally their idea, and I'm supporting them in it. But I don't want to push them in doing it. The 2 miler was definitely tough for them.
I know I'm doing a very poor job of catching up with everyone, but I think of you all often during my runs. This team is my inspiration, and everyone is doing such a great job with their training and lives. All my best!

Good morning everyone, at least I think it is morning. I got out for the scheduled 5 mile run last night and felt pretty good about it. I decided I wasn't going to worry about the pace and see where I would wind up. I got so good at not looking, I forgot to see what the overall pace was. I did feel good afterwards and felt like I could do some more if needed.
Lynnda and Timmy seem to be doing good. Timmy is definately on a schedule now and wakes up by himself when it is time to eat. This is nice during the day but not so great at night. :rolleyes1 Billy is still doing good with him but he does not like the term big brother, no clue as to why though.
Craig - I forgot to mention that I saw you had alliances with that other school in Texas. Having met you and seeing some of your wisdom in other areas, I will just presume you had a momentary lapse of judgement or got lost on the way to the correct Texas school 90 miles east of Austin. ;)
Lisa - We are in Palm Bay, just west of the interstate.
Vic - Hope your foot gets better quick. You could put more pics up and I wouldn't be bothered. We also have a couple of Rat or Corn snakes around our yard. I don't see them that much but they tend to run from the lawnmower pretty good.
Andrew - Good luck on sealing yourself. Although during the summer down here, you would probably melt or cook yourself to a nice tenderness. :rotfl2: Good job on the training.
Melissa - Glad to hear some of the results were good. Sorry to hear about the less than polite doctor though. Good luck with the spider bite, I hope it isn't too bad.
Judy - Keep that blood pressure low. We can't have you falling over in the middle of the race next month. Cam already tried that and from what I heard, doesn't recommend anyone else trying.
Stephanie - Good job on the training and yes that humidity should get you ready for out here. Add some bugs and you have the perfect training conditions.
TriMom - Welcome and good job getting out the door for the training.
Bekkiz - Good job pushing yourself yesterday. That is a great pace and plenty fast enough for Disney.
Tiberius - Good job on the training. You are making good progress.
Leana - I want some snow, although the rest of the state may not. Good luck on getting your run in.
Jackie - Good job on getting faster. The heat will definately mess with your intervals, just find something that works when it is warm outside.
Minnie - Nice pictures, looks like you had a good time.
Matt - They did a good job of hiding the harness holding your body up. :lmao: Now if you can just share your secret of how you get forward motion when floating, we would all be appreciative.
Cindy - Hope your leg feels better soon. Just don't push too much through the injury.
Laurie - Good job on the run. You definately look ready for your race, good luck.
Krista - Your co-worker needs a little more tact there. Lynnda's birthday was good. I think the best gift she got was the fact she can drive again. :rotfl2: She didn't complain about any of the other gifts so I will presume they were acceptable.
Sorry to those I missed but it is time to go to work. I think I liked the taking vacation time a little better though. :rolleyes1

Matt: Look at you--I think you are ready or a Runner's World cover there! :cool1:
Minnie: Those pics are beautiful!!
Jackie: Hot weather for NC, isn't that? Was it humid or anything? I've determined that Garmin has a mind of its own.
Leana: Suck in those abs and any housework can be XT ;).
Tiberius: WTG on the increase for your workout. Pretty Dog in your sig.
TriMom: Sorry your son was sick :( . I wouldn't worry about the pace...some times we have days that kind of slow down a bit only to pick right back up.
Stephanie: Yep--notice I checked in real quick today.... . Any more 4 page chatters and I'm skipping.:scared1: Humidity in Arkansas?? In April??? Does that mean humidity is heading my way?? Nice workout and an envious pace you have!
Mel: Poor kid. I didn't go to K--but when I had to get shots for going into 1st grade....I flopped right onto the floor. My mother had tried distracting me by telling me that we'd go and get a happy meal....but evidently I could tell time b/c it was only like 10am or so, so I knew she was distracting me from the evil shot--turned, so the needle go in...and that was the end of that. I needed a shot when I was 17--didn't even look and still passed out. So now I must lay down for any needle procedure.:scared1:
Good news for Phil's biopsy..sorry I am out of the loop...but who is Phil?
Ewwww on the Spider Bite--I certainly hope your finger doesn't fall off.
Andrew: Good job on running the 2 miles...and I love your user name!
Dave: Oh that is cool...my girls want to run. My oldest is capable of a longer distance...I just don't know how to guide a kid to train. Thus far she wants to run on my treadmill. But for safety of course...afraid to allow her to do anything real on it. I let her get on at grandma speed.
Floyd--wow...I don't know why I didn't know you were in PB. I must have been under a rock. Have you always been there, or did you guys just move there? How old is Timmy? (that's what we called my brother when he was little :goodvibes ).
Me for today: Did my TM again---30 minutes..slower pace than yesterday (yesterday was curiousity and to see what I was capable of). Part of my slower pace is b/c my total time includes a 5 minute warmup and a 5 minute cool down....BUT about 10 minutes of my time was regulation or near regulation time...with 5 minutes at 4.1 mph.
I am quite excited to see what I am capable of as just when my body was ready to do that, we became pregnant twice (1st one a loss and 2nd one my big boy!). I got a blessing out of it--but have been dying to know what my legs can handle now that I got that meniscus tear taken care of.
Today--the family heads to the dentist.:scared1: I have no problems with the Dentist mind you..but I'm schlepping in with 3 kids--but at least 2 of them will be in a chair as well. But my pregnancy excuse for no X-rays is over and BUMMER...I gotta get them. I HATE bitewings b/c my mouth is soooo small and they hurt.

Melissa--great news on Phil's biopsy. We'll be keeping you guys in our prayers. And please don't let your finger rot away. I keep picturing that old Saturday Night Live commercial with the extra fingers that fall off. "There's no way around it, you've got extra fingers. Time for Handi-Off."

Krista - I totally forgot to address your coworker's comment!! You've seen me right? Well, my body looks different from when before I had the boy! It was skinnier!!!!! My belly was flatter!!!!! Anyway, one morning at church, some girl asked me the same thing. I wasn't wearing anything that would make me look that way. Turns out, (unbeknownst to me at the time) that I really was:rotfl2: :rotfl2: . So, the way I see it, either your coworker is really in touch and intuitive and has some kind of extra perceptive pregnancy sensor, or....... she is not to bright and is mean and she need to zip her lip!!!!! I think I'd avoid talking to her! She is probably jealous that you are athletic!

Lisa - phil is my husband. I actually called him yesterday and told him that the boy was fine, but that he was definitely not going to be a phlebotimist!!!
So you were a passer outer even when you were young???
I would have promised him a happy meal too (as we all remember my affection for mcdonald's during training) but since I watched that Super-size me movie, I have not had mc'd (or any big fast food chain) since before the dis. marathon!!!! We do have a couple of local fast food restaurants, but I think the get their meat locally and processed locally, so it is not as disgusting, but sadly, they don't have the majorly cool toys in their meal either. I've basically added a couple of bucks to the boys allowance on days that he would want fast food for the toy so that we can just eat somewhere good and then go to the dollar store and score a cheap toy! I miss the big mac!!!!!!

Melissa--What a moron dr. though--and take care of your finger--Thought of you yesterday when we ran over by the Big Dam Bridge!:goodvibes

No work out last night. Up too late fro hockey Sunday night and went to bed early. As if it's not bad enough to have a 9 pm start, the darn game went to double OT! (I had to call it quits affter the first OT. :( )
WOo hoo for taper! 40 min tonight. Still have not had gait analysis. Ugh. PT lost my work number. I should hear today.

Good morning team!! Why is it the taper always produces stonker runs? I think every event I've trained for, my tapers have all been blah. I ran 3 miles last night right after work, so it was still close to 80 degrees, I was trying to beat the storm that was coming our way so it was extremely muggy. Ugh. The entire run, my left calf (which is my good leg) was so tight, I had to keep stopping and stretching it and I took more walk breaks than I usually do. But I got the steps in, so that's all that counts. I have another 3 miles tonight, hopefully it will be a better run! :wizard:
Thanks everyone for backing me up on the whole "are you pregnant" thing. I know I don't look pregnant and I'm pretty thin, but still when you hear that, it does something to you! All I could think was, it's people like her that make young girls and women have eating disorders! And you're right, Cindy, you NEVER ask someone if they are pregnant, as you don't know any back stories that may be going on. So yeah, maybe I have a "little belly", but you know what, I have some pretty rocking legs, if I do say so myself!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
Melissa--I am so glad that Phil is okay!!!! What a weight off your shoulders!!!!!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: Sorry about the boy! I bet you were both terrified. I'm glad that he seems to be doing better. :wizard: for your finger! Spiders yuck me out, so I think I would have passed out over that one. Oh, I'll keep you posted if my co-worker is psychic. ;)
Carrie--Sent you a PM. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!
Judy--Take care of yourself!! That's a relief to know that the health issues you've had the past few months are a pretty easy fix. But still, don't mess with your blood pressure. No more guacamole for you, young lady!!
Cam--Are you feeling any better?
Mike--You know, I was wearing some pretty spiky heels yesterday that could have done some damage.
Bekkwiz--Nice job sticking with the run!
Lisa--You win the award! That was an incredible post!!!! The baby must have been napping, huh? :) You are such an inspiration, have a baby in March, back to walking/running by April, and an ultra-marathon in January. You rock!! :cheer2:
Okay, I know I missed people, but I've been here for an hour and I haven't done anything constructive yet. I better go and earn my keep. I'll be back when I need a break from nasty customers who want to argue with everything I say. I love my job. I love my job. I love my job.

I hate posting back to back, but I need to ask for some prayers and :wizard: for my sister. I just got off the phone with my Mom, my oldest sister, Shari, has been in hospital since Friday because of migraine headaches and high blood pressure. She is having surgery sometime today, the surgeon is actually taking a piece of her vein out above her temple to see if they can figure out why she is getting migraines and why her blood pressure won't
stabilize. I'll keep everyone posted.

I know I'm going to miss someone because I waited to long to read this and now all 3 kids are up and wanting attention. :sad2:
Mike- You've traumatized me w/ the story about the vet doing his own vasectomy! I'll never look at my vet again the same way.
Melissa- So glad Phil got good news. So angry that it took so long. Some docs just don't get it. I've got to admit some jealousy that your DS went limp during his procedures. When my DD was 5 she kicked and flailed so badly that the pediatrician had to call in his special forces. The nurse that came was HUGE. She looked like a retired East German female power lifter. I've got to give DD credit she still tried to fight but she was hopelessly over powered. I got a spider bite while mowing the lawn a couple years ago. I felt a stab to my knee and looked down thinking the mower had flung something at me. There was a big spider hanging on. After my Dance of Revulsion the spider was dead and completely unidentifiable. I had 2 holes which swelled together into an egg sized wound. Hope your finger doesn't do that trick.
Leanna- Vacuuming is XT around here because I have to do so much toy pick up before hand!
Minnie- Those are beautiful pictures.
Matt- How do you achieve that zero-gravity state?
Krista- I suspect jealousy!
Vic- Hope your snakey friend sticks around. He'll keep the mice and other rodents away!
Sunny-Maybe you're a Parsel Tongue! (Just watched that Harry Potter movie)
Judy-:wizard: for bringing that BP down!
Lisa- Glad you're back!
Mike- Hey, tell me what shorts you're wearing. I could use something flattering.
Shan- WTG on picking up the running!
Matt- Can reading your posts count as XT for us???
Lily- We may not have gators up here but we've got some pretty exciting wildlife ourselves! While running I've come across snakes, turkeys, deer, a 'possum and my least favorite a skunk w/ babies! That skunk was not happy that I was heading right for them. She started doing her handstand.:scared1:
Angie- Congratulations on graduation!
Going to the Y today for treadmill or bike can't decide. Then back again while DD does her Girls on the Run and I'll do some strength training.

Melissa, soooo happy everything turned out alright for Phil! It must have been so stressful waiting for those results! (Ashamed to say, I stopped at McDonald's twice in 90 minutes yesterday.:guilty: )
Krista, oh, yes, prayers for your sister.
I can tell it is coming to the end of the school year soon as things are really getting busy. My calendar is packed for the next 6 weeks. I am also trying to finish a Geometry and Algebra 2 course I am teaching a couple of homeschooled kids (not my own), so they have been coming three times of week each instead of twice. I have been able to get in a few quality runs and more cross training too, but unfortunately, I haven't been able to keep up here. I will try and stop in later today.
Have a great day.

Hey all, just a quicky since WTO and I have not time lately. I am currently chuggung coffee and downing some oatmeal before my meeting. I am NOT GIVING UP... last night we did a family bike ride. DH takes DD6 on his bike with the tag-a-long and I get to drag DDalmost4 in the trailer. Even tho it was a slow pace, I was pulling a 40 pound girl plus the weight of the trailer. We did 40 minutes, so I was pleased. Tonight I am going to try to hit the elliptical while DD's are in swim class. It's a bad time to go since the Y is always packed at that time, but maybe I will be lucky. I haven't ran yet, but plan to try on Friday after work. My foot is still tender, so I pray it heals quickly for me.
Lisa and Stacey - THANK FOR THE IDEAS. Actually, the ideas Lisa posted are some that I was going to do, but the titles are GREAT. My DD is so excited about ther birthday. Yesterday I bought some SpongeBob fabric and will try to make her a little sundress before Sunday. She will love it. It's a Tiki Spongebob.
Judy - Oh get that BP down. I have low BP, but lately all my stress is causing havic on it. It's not a good thing! I am glad you know what the problem is tho!!!
Krista - I hope you Sister gets better!!! Oh and I just asked my brother to buy me some Body Glide because he is placing an REI order. OH and I have a little girl ask me if I was PG when I was only 6-8 weeks along and no one knew yet. Hmmm, could it be?
MelR - I hope everything works out for your DH. I have been through it with my mom twice, so I know how nerve racking it can be. OH and EWWWW on the spider. I would have freaked. I think I would rather it had been a wasp than a spider. Maybe Vic can loan you his snake to kill the spiders.
Did I mention that DH (Paul) is doing his first 5K this weekend. We are supposed to have GREAT weather. I was going to do it with him, but with my current PF and no babysitter, I decided to let him have the glory and I will battle the crazy kids. We will just cheer him on. His biggest worry... he wants the shirt to be cool!!! I told him that I didn't think this one was, but if he likes it there will be others he can do.

Timmy is now 3 weeks old today, depending on how you actually count the weeks.

Dave – Sounds like the girls are doing great with their 5K training! Do y’all have a specific race in mind as a goal?
Lisa – Great to see you up and about so soon! Hope your knee feels better.
Susie – That race app is a riot!
Shan – You’re doing great!

Laurie – Good to see you! Good luck on your race!
Matt – Great photo!
Minnie – Ooh, so beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
Bekkiz – Great job!
TriMom – Hope the little one is all better. WTG getting those 3 miles in.
Melissa – Glad that the results came back good!
Jen – Good luck to your DH for his first 5K!
Outback was delightful. I ate a few too many cheese fries, but I drank water instead of Coke, and had broccoli as a side instead of potatoes, so that's my justification. :upsidedow
In trying to find some motivation, I looked at the local race listing, and found several 5Ks that we're interested in.
And one 10K, that's a little over a month away (June 2). I think we're going to go for it. I don't know, is that pushing too hard, too fast? :confused3 My thought was that we could do our LRs the next five weeks at the following mileages: 4, 4, 5, 5, 6. The next Saturday would be the race.
What do y'all think?

I should have stuck with my program and rested today. DH decided he didn't feel good and didn't want to take me out to his trail he usually runs, so I decided to just go on out in my neighborhood since I was already dressed to go.
OUCH! It was supposed to be an easy session, but I obviously wasn't recovered from yesterday. :sad2:

Judy - Take care of yourself. My BP was up a little at my appt last week. I attribute it to anticipation of the date I had with Mr. Rubber Glove and his friend, K-Y jelly!
Oh Mike! OH MIKE! :rotfl: I just can not read your post while I am at work! :rotfl2: OMG you are hysterical! :lmao: Thank goodness you don't have to go to the OB/GYN!
Dave - Thanks for thinking of me. Also, I am open to bribes too!

Speaking of wildlife, Charlie and I were having dinner last night and looking out the sliding glass door at the pond when we see a coyote standing on the big rock on the shoreline. Thanks everyone for the prayers and pixie dust for my sister!! I talked to my Mom a little bit ago, the surgery will not be until late afternoon/early evening. The surgeon who is doing it does not work for the hospital, but he's coming in do the surgery. The hospital has reassured my sister that the surgery is pretty basic and definitely not life threatening, so that's good. But to me, surgery is surgery and it's ALL scary, especially surgery dealing with the head/brain/temple. I'll keep every one up to date.
Melissa and Jen--I bet Stephen is freaking out over your pregnancy stories! :lmao: I sure hope I'm not pregnant right now for 2 reasons: 1. I've been drinking Diet Coke and tanning at the tanning bed; apparently they don't like you doing stuff like that when you are pregnant. :confused3 2. 9 months from now is January--we can't have any babies messing with the marathon schedule. ;) Even if I don't run in January, Stephen would like to! :)
Christa--If I'm glowing it's from the UV rays from the tanning bed!! What Mizunio's did you get? I'm getting new shoes after the Pig and I REALLY want the Mizunio Alchemy's.
Judy--We have problems with coyotes around us too. We aren't in the country, but in an area that USED to be country until the subdivisions started going up. I know there is a problem with coyotes eating small dogs.

Don't know about tanning, but I totally drank DC while pregnant. With my 2nd. They said not to withthe 1st, but by the time I had DD6.5 they had changed that rule I guess.

Update on Shari--I talked to my Mom before I went to lunch at 1:00, they decided to wait and do the surgery tomorrow morning. Her bp is wayyyyy high, like 23something/130, the doctors decided it would be too much of a risk to do surgery today.

Good morning team!! Why is it the taper always produces stonker runs? I think every event I've trained for, my tapers have all been blah. I ran 3 miles last night right after work, so it was still close to 80 degrees, I was trying to beat the storm that was coming our way so it was extremely muggy. Ugh. I'm glad to hear that this is normal for tapering. I struggled yesterday to do my 4 mile walk. My legs felt like lead and then with being 83 degress and muggy I was miserable. My half is this weekend and I was questioning if I am going to be able to make it through the event. You have made me feel better. I have one more 4 mile walk planned for Wed and then just resting until Sunday.
I haven't had time to read all the posts, but sending prayers out to Krista's sister. That BP is really scary high. How old is she?
Glad that Phil's biopsy report was negative. As a breast cancer survivor I know how anxious he must have felt waiting. Waiting for test results is worse sometimes than getting the results.

Andrew – your “purty mouth” comment literally had me :lmao: OMG!!!! Your posts crack me up! Thank you for the laugh, friend!
Okay, Mike, you too! Behave yourself! It is kind of hard to explain my guffaws to the people outside my office! :rotfl:
Bill – Thank you for reminding Judy that she doesn’t want to “pull a Cam” during the Minnie. I will be a wreck worrying about her. :goodvibes: Then again, I think she had such a great experience with all those cute EMTs after the Half, that she might be tempted to pull a little fainting spell.
Did you guys hear that when Judy had been on the stretcher for a while one of the EMTs said something like: “I think your color is a little better, but it is kind of hard to tell with that glowing GREEN shirt! I almost fell over laughing (partly from relief of knowing she was okay, of course!)
Krista – Let me at her!!!! (Your mean co-worker, that is!) Keeping your sis in my prayers. I had that procedure done about 10 years ago. It was an arterial biopsy and I was diagnosed with temporal arteritis (a disease that usually only senior citizens get). I had to go through steroid treatments and get blood tests every 3 days to monitor my SED rate. But it was resolved after a few months. In the meantime, I also used a maintenance drug for the migraines and then “rescue” drugs for flare-ups. I hope everything goes smoothly for your sister.
Colleen – it is so nice to see you here. I’ve missed you!
Jen – good luck to Paul! Tell him his WISH team is behind him all the way!! :cool1:
Dave – I am glad you are enjoying the taper. Kudos to the girls for those 2 miles! And I love the way you rewarded them. I just bought DSalmost14 a new Life Is Good shirt that has Jake running on the front and it is called “RUSH HOUR” – so fun!!
Angie – good job on great food choices at Outback. The food there is so awesome that you can order something relatively healthy and feel like you are splurging. :)
Christa – enjoy the new shoes! Yeah, some women want new Manolo Blahniks – we celebrate race treads! :lmao:
Judy – so glad your TM workout produced no bad side effects, but I am thinking maybe the stress of heading in to work sent your BP through the ceiling. Poor thing! And, :scared: on the coyote!
Nancy – Enjoy the taper! You’ll do great at your race!
Still no workouts for me. Completely grounded per doctor until Thursday. The cough is better and I think the sinus infection has mostly resolved, but breathing is still no picnic. I still can’t believe I have bronchitis. Howard is sick now with a sinus infection and just overall feeling lousy, but fortunately he doesn’t have bronchitis. I am really dreading the heat and humidity of Florida, but hope to be ready by then to take on 9.3 miles. I figure it may be as bad as the ‘07 marathon, weather-wise, but it is only slightly more than 1/3 the distance, so not so late into the day at Finish. And, it is the first distance race that I have done before, so I am really excited to “enjoy” the course instead of dreading the unknown.

Cam--Your post has given me such relief! To know that you went through the same thing my sister is going through and survived just fine makes me feel so much better. I'm really hoping this whole ordeal is a wake-up call for my sister. She really doesn't take care of herself, she doesn't smoke or drink or anything like that, but she's over weight and doesn't eat so great and doesn't do any exercise at all. Now, I know just because you watch what you eat and you exercise on a regular basis, that doesn't mean that you're going to live to be 100, but it I think it has something to do with it. And she would probably still get migraines even if she ran or exercised, but at least having some physical outlet can cut down on stress and hopefully relieve what triggers a migraine. It definitely would help her blood pressure!! I hope you continue to feel better and :wizard: for Howard!!
Nancy--My sister is 39. Thanks for all the prayers! Don't worry about the half. I know, easier said than done, but you've done all the hard work and put your steps in. The half marathon is just the party. party:

Krista-- My prayers are with you and your SIS. Just how many things can go wrong with the body???? BTW, I'm voting for the "your face makes you look ugly" response;)
MelR-- So glad the biopsy was neg. I can't believe what a traumatic day you and the Boy had! Do you still have 10 fingers? My DD was always a wreck about needles. It was really hard. DS doesn't even flinch. But DD justifies that with "that's just because of his sensory integration dysfunction!" She can't be shown up!
Now I'm a bit unclear of the subtle differences between "pulling a Cam" and "pulling a Judy", one is on the course, one is at the finish?:rotfl2: I'm one to talk, I fell at the track last Friday. I had a great 4 mie run and forgot I no longer can pick my legs up. The entrance/exit is blocked by a chain and I just flipped over it like it wasn't there. Not because I didn't see it, but because the message sent from my brain to "lift leg up" just never made it. Quite embarrassing but no injuries.
Carrie-- Oh the snake was just one of many surprizes for DM. He used to put dead frogs and field mice, etc. in the freezer, too! They've been married 45+ years. Go figure.
Cindy-- I don't think you were around when I tried a V-8 at mile 16:rotfl: I guess I can't complain of having a weak stomach anymore. (BTW the V8 was great).
Matt-- another great WISH shirt siting:thumbsup2 Personally, I have to "pretend" to run when I see the camera because my feet don't really leave the ground (ok, maybe an inch or two more than Judy's).
Minnie-- great pics! Sounds like a wonderful trip.
Bill-- sometimes running with no knowledge of pace is a breath of fresh air. I'm sure it was smokin'!
I finally made it to the Y today for 80minutes of swogging.

Becky – I tripped and fell before mile 7 during the full (we were off the road on the right and when I went to step back onto the road, I couldn't tell it was a bit higher -- I have no depth perception). Flat down on my front and slid along the pavement courtesy of that very slippery tyvek bib. Continued to scrape my hands and knee as I slid forward. Tore my ipod shuffle (which was on my race belt) to heck and back and ripped the number right off my WISH shirt (which was irretrievably ruined with pavement scrapes and tiny holes where the bib ripped off!) Rhonda, Lily & Pat picked me up. :grouphug: Rhonda poured water over my bloody hands, gave me her emergency band-aids out of her fanny pack and Pat almost poured her sports drink over my hands instead of water. I had open wounds on both palms & my knee, wrenched my shoulder, my wrist and my knee and was just an absolute mess. The medics offered me a ride, many times. Rhonda tried to talk me into stopping at a medical tent to at least get cleaned up, but I was so afraid of getting swept. After mile 20 when the medics offered me a ride to the end, I told them I wasn’t going home without my Mickey medal. I attribute getting to the FINISH to a race partner who stayed with me every step of the way and my 2 mantras: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" and "the pain is temporary. The pride of finishing is forever."

I have a fairly high critter tolerance 'cause my dad was a little bit like Steve Irwin. He had a 6-foot boa when I was born and various other oddities as I grew up. I used to catch crickets for his lizards to eat when I was a kid. What I don't do well with are slimy green tree frogs :crazy2:
I am on self-imposed rest this week and it's makin' me crazy! I've already decided that I'll give up tomorrow, but I'm doing 5 miles this weekend regardless of what whining my feet have planned. Is it just me or does not running make you eat constantly?

Thanks for your reference to A&M. 2 of our best friends are a husband and wife pair on the faculty there, 1 in accounting 1 in finance. Remembering that we live in the land of the hostile, the folks in College Station are the opposite. Last summer I was there with Lesley visiting our buddies, and we all went our for real barbeque, something else you cannot get here. Lesley wanted a combination that wasn't on the menu and she asked the young man behind the counter what it would take to get her preferred order. The young man said, "you just did it mam," and filled her order with a smile. Try that in Boston (and then duck).
The A&M campus is amazing to someone from a small College like me. Huge doesn't describe it. Our friends have a very comfortable life in Aggie-land. No state income taxes, low cost of housing, low cost of everything, and great jobs.
Of course, I still have that UT degree, and cannot help occasional references to Aggies  .
Krista
Best to your sister and family. Our health is so delicate, I hope she gets this turned around, and then turns it around.
Cam and Rhonda
I've said it before, and here it comes again. The medal and bib mean everything. You carried that bib around the course (as described by Churchill "blood, toil, sweat, and tears"), and you received the medal in the chutes. That dumb certificate is generated by a computer, months later, in an air conditioned complex, and then mailed to you. I have all my medals and bibs hanging in my office for all to see and me to reflect on from time to time. This year's certificate? Well since I never have framed one, don't care about the darn things, and don't know where they are, this year when it arrived I took a logical step. I threw it in the trash.
No certificate can match the emotion behind the medal and bib, and Cam's pic with Mickey shows it in her face.
12 days to the Minnie for you wild and crazy participants.

Hello Everyone!!
Quick Training Report
4 miles 39 minutes - really slowing down, I have a pretty significant back issue right now and I have been seeing chiropracter, we will see what happens:confused3
I can not POSSIBLY catch up with everyone!! I'm so sorry:mad: I have to finish a 25 page paper on Global Warming:scared: and study for 3 finals.
But thanks for everyone who asked, our presentation went ok. The presentation part was ok, but the MEAN old PROFESSORS ( sorry Craig - just kidding - I actually adore and respect these 2 professors) they grilled us with questions about our design, that of course we could not answer. It's ok, toughens you up!
Lisa Loves Pooh To answer your question, I am graduating from USF with an Engineering degree. The poor people on this thread are probably very tired of hearing about it and will be happy in 11 days (YES ONLY 11 DAYS   ) when it is all over. I must tell you I admire you jumping right back into training after just having a baby. I did not start really exercising until my youngest was about 3.
Krista The whole story about the pregnant thing is really funny. I had a little similar incident, except mine involved DH too. One Saturday night I said why don't we get Sweet Berries (frozen custard) tonight and he said "Do you think your but really needs that " TOTALLY KIDDING!!:lmao: He is really not mean - swear. But 5 minutes later I go across the street to my neighbors and he says "Are you pregnant, you look like you are gaining wieght?" Well I will have you know I took my but to sweet berries and got the biggest ice cream I could get - and it was SOOOOOOO good! :rotfl:
On a serious note, will definately be praying for your sister.
I am so sorry I can not catch up with everyone else.

75 min on the bike trainer today for me, as I watched "Cyclysm Sundays" which I had DVR'd. Worked out pretty well, once you subtract out commercials the 2 hour show ended up about that long, and when I started to fade towards the end they were pumping towards the finish and that gave me an extra kick as I tried to catch them while not moving. :rotfl:
Flying tomorrow night Thur night and Fri night it appears, which means probably leaving at like midnight or later Fri to drive the two hours up to where I'm doing the metric century Sat morning. Could be painful if the schedule stays that way...
After 75 min and even my longest ride so far a couple weekends ago of 120 min the estimated 220 min it will take me to complete the metric century sounds awfully long...

Well I had planned on teh exercise bike this a.m.
But a few things impeded that (and it wasn't the baby! ).
First, woke up and immediately realized I hadn't deleted a work shift this morning...OOPSIE!!!
And the bike--had NO BATTERIES. Well it did--but one was corroded and the other three were either dead...or staring at their corroded friend in disbelief of how much of a wimpy battery who was for not holding up for the 1 year they sat idle doing diddly. So I had no display, no fan, and no mechanism to adjust tension or anything. So I biked for about 5 minutes and said forget this. Will go out later today or batteries and then bike when Baby Boy is napping.
My thighs were screaming to be worked out and though Goofy is in the works....he's a LOOOOOOOOOOONGGGGGG ways away. Right now I am in just the "training to train to train" mode. I have promised myself no running for about a month or so (since my ligaments are still loose thanks to all those pregnancy hormones that make them that way).
Now I just gotta work on getting hubby starting to work out--b/c he's doing the full..and at his current pace...he wouldn't even wake up and be ready to throw on his race day clothes.
Cam: "I can do all things through Christ who strenghens me"--I regret that when my doula said this to me while I was in transition (laboring)---that my response was "Well, Jesus was never in labor."

Cam and Dave: awesome photos with the Mickeys! Don't worry about not getting the finisher's certificate, Cam.....it's the medal and knowing that you finished that really counts.
I've heard that if you get swept, there is no medal. I didn't realize they still gave it to you if you finished slightly over regulation. Does anyone know approximately what the cushion is? I pretty much thought they would just pick-up and close shop as soon as the 7 hours (plus start time) elapsed. Knowing that I can miss the cut-off by a few minutes and still medal is very comforting.
Nancy and I have our half-marathon event this Sunday. Based on last year's results we should tie for dead last! We intend to finish by keeping our eyes on the prize....first a medal, then LUNCH!

Sunny - Great SWOG!
Well, I had a stonker last night which turned me into a whimp. I started hurting enough to make me whine btween 0.5 and 0,75 miles into our 40 min. At 1+, it started to sprinkle (but the crops were big). I asked dh how far we would go in the rain. He suggested we urn around at 1.5. He looked over and say the pain on my face at 2 Yeah, it'd been ther efor over a mile, but took him a while to notice). We stopped. I stretched and we walked the rest of the way. The joy of knowing that I should not hurt myself more if I keep runnign is gone. I'm tired of hurting. Th ePT helped a lot, but I seem to have hit a plateau. Still have not scheduled teh gait analysis and no Osteo Manipulation (boy, that sounds scary) until Mid May. Ugh. I think I'll just take it real easy and save it all for the Minnie. BTW, icing the booty stinks! FOrgive teh major whine.
Funny thing did happen at the beginiing of our run. The local "goofyguy", not to be confused with goofyMike, was runnign the opposite way near the beginning of our SR yesterday. he says, "I won't make you stop, buyt I keep forgetting to tell you something," as he turns and runs with us. NOw, this guy is a true runner to turn around kknowing we won't want ot stop. ;) He tells Scott, "I keep wanting to tell you how lucky you are to have someone to run with. No matter how slow I go, no one will run with me. not my wife or my 2 kids." :cloud9: So sweet of him to say that. I mentioned that it's not always easy, but it's so nice not to go alone. (Not to mention that I'd not likely still be running on my own.) I just thought that was really cool of him to say. he's right adn it goes both ways, but most peoiple would just say that I'm the lucky one. BTW, I don't think it's the pace, this guy just runs forever! :p

The cushion varies from year to year as it is determined by how long it takes the entire field to cross the start.
There is one final pick up point in the half and the full (I forget where)...but once you pass that you are permitted to finish. ALL finishers will get a medal. Only REGULATION finishers will get a certificate.

jeanne - They stop sweeping after ~20 miles. After that, as long as you don't stop, you get the medal. Cam had bikers on her heels the whole time, but she would NOT stop. However, you need to make it in the 7 hours to get the Goofy.
Are the bikers the officials who basically signify the end of the race?
Also, what exactly does a sweeper look like? I have this vision of something that looks like the vehicle from Roger Rabbit!

Real quick post b/c I have a client in 1 hour and I haven't gotten in the shower yet!:scared1:
Anywho.....
Ran 3.2 miles this morning. I worked on hill training. Don't know the time, but I was sucking wind.
I am training for my 5k on the 19th on May. This may sound funny b/c at this point, I am well trained to run a marathon, but a 5k is so different. My body is used to the LONG SLOW miles, not the SHORT FAST ones. And Charlotte is hilly!
My buddy that asked me to run this is trying to make it into a competition btwn us. She is much faster than me and I have no desire to compete with her. I have told her this, but she thinks that I am fast b/c I can go long.
AAAHHHHHHHHHH!:headache:
Will catch up later.....must work all day to pay for my FREE sport....
OH, I saw a cute quote on running...
"My sport, is your sport's punishment".

Don't you dare eidt your posts. I love hearing the inner monologue which bursts out of your brain, straight to your posts.
Remember, the constitution guarantees you the right to free speech. Spouses, who want us to stop embarassing ourselves, do not restrict or control that right.
Plus, I don't mind how much trouble you get in at home, as long and you make me laugh.

Cam- I hadn't heard your story before. I am so impressed that you kept going! Like Craig said, it is the bib and the medal that prove you stuck the course.
Love those Mickey pics!
Christa- Love the quote!

I did 5 miles on TM yesterday using the HR monitor on aerobic setting. I seem to sweat so much more when I'm doing it in that range. Is that the rendered fat seeping out of my pores?
Does anyone belong to a track club/team? Would it be beneficial to sign up for the summer Y team? I would like to work on my speed and really don't know what I'm doing when it comes to that.

Good morning TEAM! I didn't run last night, no great story for why I didn't, I just didn't. :) Stephen was out of town last night, so I spent the evening getting caught up on Desperate Housewives and the laundry and once that was done, I read all night long. I love to read and can spend HOURS lost in a book, much to Stephen's dismay. :) So I have 6 miles tonight--swapping my lr for this weekend and my sr out, I'm doing a 5K on Saturday, so instead of running 3 miles before the race, I'm doing 6 tonight that I'm supposed to do this weekend. It'll be my last long distance before the Pig!!
Update on my sister--Her blood pressure is down, I think my Mom said it was 130/80 last night. Still high, but much, much better. I assume her surgery is still scheduled for today, the surgeon was supposed to meet with her last night, but cancelled because he had a head cold. Remind me to never live out in the backwoods (they live in IN, about an 50 minutes-hour away from Cincinnati), it would be nice to have more than one surgeon who can perform a specific surgery. My brother-in-law seems to be handling things okay with the kids, they have 3: 12, 8, and 1, Mom said when she called last night he was doing laundry. At least they are wearing clean clothes!!!
Angie--11 days!! I am so excited for you!! Post lots of pics. And I love the preggo story. :)
Mike--I love your posts! I don't think they are too risque at all. But then again I don't have kids that I have to explain things to. :) I hope you enjoyed your rest day.
Cam--I'm going to chime in with Craig and say that certificate means nothing. Your medal and your bib are your badges of honor. My medal is hanging off my dresser and my bib is the bookcase, both are waiting to be put in the shadow box. I have no clue where my finisher's certificate is. I think it's still in the envelop buried under a pile of papers.
Dave--I love your pic with Mickey!!!

Christa--I so understand what you are saying. That's why I'm religiously attending the "Women Can Run" clinic here. I have about 2 1/2 weeks until the "graduation" 5K and it is making me more nervous than the Minnie. I'm really good at long and steady--but getting it into my brain that the race is only 3.1 miles long and I can go faster; just doesn't compute. I'm working with the advanced runner leaders at the clinic to improve my time. They have this crazy idea that I can run the 5K in 23:00. So, I'm working with a pace and effort chart to get to that speed. I will say, though, that what's really helped me is speedwork. I might feel like crud afterward, but at least now I know what it feels like to run fast. Here I go rambling again......
Carrie--sorry about your stonker--I had one last night as well. Must be the weather!
Cam and Dave-What great pics!!! I definitely will be in line to get mine this year!
Lisa--Too bad about the bike--but :thumbsup2 to you for still getting out of bed to give it a try. I think DS was 10 months old before I got back working out.
Mike--Don't censor yourself. I need my daily comic relief!
Krista--Prayers and PD for your sister! I hope this will be the wake up call she needs.
Well, my run last night was a stonker. Most of that was from having to get on my home TM, which I hate. I did 3 miles, was at was supposed to be "easy pace" but still felt like more than full effort! Hope this am is better. Gonna try to get 3-4 miles in during DD's gymnastics class, and then I'm heading to the running store--not for anything fun, they're the only place that carries HammerGel--but maybe, just maybe they're having a sale!

Morning everyone! I got my 5 mile run in last night. I made a conscientious decision to slow down a bit. I felt some twinges in my right bum ankle after my 7 mile run on Sunday so I want to be sure I'm not trying to push the pace too much as I up my mileage. Anyhow, got the 5 miler done in 59:24 for an 11:53/mi pace. I just passed the cumulative mileage point of where I got injured last year, so I think part of it is me mentally needing to know that I can get past this point. Not sure I'll be able to get my XT in today or not, but if I can't I'll settle for watching the Vancouver Canucks XT versus the Anaheim Ducks. I shall live vicariously!
Cam - your marathon story - how wonderful that you had the support of your friends through that. I'm sure it made for a memorable race for all of you. That experience, along with your medal and bib, is worth way more than the finisher's certificate! And I love your pic with Mickey - what a great idea!

OK any second now I am going to RIP this halter monitor and all it's stupid electrodes and tape RIGHT OFF ME! :headache: I can't STAND this thing! And I'm supposed to wear it until 1:00!?! Anyway, I didn't train this morning, since I hardly slept all night. I was just too beat. I am so unprepared for the Minnie. When I was training for the Half I only missed one day of training. I really felt ready for that race. This one, not so much. Well, I suppose I'll at least be well rested.

Carrie -- you and Scott are BOTH lucky, not just to have each other's company when you run, but also because you WANT to be together. That says so much about your relationship and I LOVE hearing about it! IT was so nice of Goofy Guy to take the time to tell Scott that.

I am sure your parents are relieved, too. ;)
Thank you, everyone for your kind comments on my race experience. THe experience was edifying, to say the least. It is under those conditions that you learn so much about yourself and about friendship. I know Rhonda (akasleepingbeauty) isn't here much since LTO but we have done 3 races together and I WISH for all of you a race partner with her special brand of positive spirit and absolute determination and profound kindness.
The support of our teammates here and in person is a precious gift and I am so glad to see people here who have running partners IRL and those of us who can go to these events and know that there is someone who is at our pace that we can "go the distance" with. :grouphug: Very, very cool! :thumbsup2

So, training. :rolleyes1
Yeah. All day they were predicting severe thunderstorms, so we decided to eat dinner when we got home and plan to do the TM later (after having some time to digest, of course!). We got all ready to go, and then I had the brilliant idea to drop by Mom's house on the way to the gym to drop off some photos.
Bad idea. We didn't leave her house until about midnight. :headache: She's the ultimate night owl.
And, as it turned out, we could have run right after getting home from work, because the storms held off until late night anyway.

I believe the bikers are bike paramedics.
When you get close to sweeper time--they have the magical bus that appears. I think at one point they just have it stalking the athletes and ready to pounce.
Last year, we watched the last full marathoner coming in. She was "racewalking" and there was a cast member with a clock on wheels pushing it as you would an upright vacuum cleaner. Now at what point he appeared, I don't know--but the last "runner" essentially at a small entourage accompanying her.

GIRL! That would bring you in under an 8 MPM! The fastest 5k I have ever done was 25...but that was at the beginning of my last 1/2 marathon. I agree that speed work is the key. I am so used to thinking....I have 10 more miles to go, or I have 16 more miles to go...so it is hard to start out FAST and stay FAST!
I think my friends competitive spirit may push me a little.
Do you taper for a 5k? I think I will just let up a bit for that week. Honestly, I have really never run one for speed and it has been a LONG time. My body may go into shock!:scared1:

Just checking in. Today is a rest day for me and I'm so glad cause my head is still killing me. I dropped the coffee and Splenda, had a friend that is a chiropractor adjust me, went and had a massage done on just my neck and upper back for thirty minutes and I still have a headache! :headache:
Come Monday if it is still bothering me I guess I'll have to go in to the doctor. Maybe it takes this long to get off the Splenda? Really, I was down to one cup of coffee in the morning and the rest of the day is all water so I don't think it is the caffenine...
Anyway, I'm really hoping it feels better by tomorrow and the rain holds off until late morning so I can get my long run in. (Well, long to me! :rotfl: )
I'm enjoying reading everyone's posts. Definitely aspiring to see what all you guys are doing! Makes the 10K seem less daunting to me. I have set goals in my mind now - if the 10K goes well for RFTT, maybe I'll do the next Minnie 15K that May and then move on and go for the half in 2009. I know DH won't argue with that one, he wanted to do it next January, but our schedules didn't work.

Thanks for all of the well wishes about the foot. It’s feeling better and hopefully I’ll be able to run this weekend.

Carrie – Sorry to hear about your run, but pretty cool to have the DH out with you.
Christa – I hate hills.
Disnutt – Great job with the 5 miler!
Krista – Have fun with LR today, and good thoughts continuing for your sis.
Stephanie – Hope your run today is better.
Leana – Great job with the 5 miler!

Having said that, you WILL humor us on a daily basis. Failure to so may result in disciplinary action in the form of dancing naked before us in a public gathering. :woohoo:
:scared1: You really don't want to see him dance - clothed or naked!!
DW of Optimator here - I feel that I need to apoligize to everyone if my comments yesterday have impacted Mike's postings.:guilty: I don't post often because I can never find the time to keep up with everyone. I usually have time to skim through a couple times a week. Hopefully he'll be back to his witty self this evening.:love2: Love ya sweetie!
My training for the Minnie has gotten sidetracked this week - Yesterday I watched a neighbor's kid due to an emergency at their house - no time for the gym! Today I have one sick DD so I was unable to get to the gym. Tomorrow DH has a day off so hopefully I'll get back on track and put in some miles. I have gotten in all my LR days so overall I think I'll be fine. It's hard to believe that I leave for the Minnie race in less than 9 days:yay:
I'm excited about the Minnie but also sad that I'll be missing Mike's first marathon! He waited to sign up for it until I had already signed up for the Minnie and bought my airfare. :headache: I had already committed to the Minnie with a friend so I didn't want to back out. I feel bad that no one will be there to cheer him on during the race or congratulate him at the end.
Happy training to everyone!! I'll make a good dinner for Mike before he goes off to work - hopefully that'll straighten things out!

Kathy - Thanks for letting Mike be Mike!!!!!!! ;) :cool1:  :cool1: Sorry about your work outs being side tracked. Sounds like you've been a very good mom and friend. You know not to take any of our whining seriously, right?
Shan - I get headaches fro 2 to 3 days even with just 1 cup of coffee. That said, you may want to get in befoer the weeknd. Headaches worry me. :grouphug: :wizard:

Hey all - I am home with a kind of sick princess. She has asthma and her allergies kicked in overtime, thus making her asthma a nightmare. I was up most of the night with her giving her the nebulizer and holder her while she just coughed and wheezed. She is doing better now, 4 treatments later. Still a little rough, but definately not as scary.
Last night I did roughly 40 minutes on the elliptical while DD's did swim class. I was even able to catch the tail end of their classes, so that was nice. Today I am a stay at home mom and it feels... kind of weird. Soon I am off to pick other DD up from school.
Kathy - Oh you just tell Mike that all the WISHers will be here cheering him on.
Vic - Way to kick on booty on Mike. That'll learn him!!!
OK, gotta be a mom today!!!

Kathy - Can you get him on your cell phone when we are all at the Minnie and we will all encourage or congratulate him (depending on when we call guess). He'll have LOTS of supporters! :woohoo:
Don't you worry a bit about him ever offending us. Have you read many of our posts? Farmers blow, man bras, zebra butts...we are a tough crowd. Besides, so many of us logon here to get our daily OptimMikeism...is ain't the same, I tell ya. ;)

Shan - If your headache isn't any better, definitely go see the doctor. A lady I work with had a headache for 12 straight days and when she went to get it checked out it was her blood pressure.
Also, the rumour for next year is that the Minnie Marathon will be a half marathon instead of a 15K. No confirmation yet though!
Oh, no! Minnie now a half? Maybe Minnie in 2009 then. :rotfl2:
Ya, I wondered about the blood pressure cause a few weeks back I had gotten into poison ivy and had to go on steroids. It made my blood pressure high and that is VERY ODD for me. It is usually very low. But, when I checked it again a few times after that it had gone back down. This headache is in one spot in my head. I feel like I'm insane...

Got my 4 miles in today. Much better than yesterday--but I still hate the TM. Oh well! Then I made a trip to our local running store for some HammerGel, adn they had a sale going on--wouldn't you know that all the sizes left in apparel were either XL men's or S ladies--guess us regular size women have to shop the full price rack. Oh, but I did see that Brooks has a new hat and visor out that are guess what color? Lime green and white! I'm gonna see if DH will let me go back and get one--my lucky hat is finally on it's last legs from all the washing.

I don't even know where to start! You guys are TOO funny - I have to wait until I get home so I don't give away my secret that I'm not really working.
Called my boss this morning and told him I'd be in around 10:00, instead of my usual 7:30. Wanted to sleep past 5:00am, and I was determined to run! So I did 4 miles on the TM, then wandered leisurely in to work mid-morning. Love having a flexible boss. (Even told him the real reason I called in was so I could run!)
Used my new orthotics this morning. Felt good while I was running, but my legs hurt all day. According to the instructions, I think this is normal!
Christa - I've decided to taper for my 5K this weekend, mainly due to the adjustment with the orthotics. I did 4 miles this morning, and I'm either going to do 2 on Friday or ride the bike. How's that for a training plan created while on the TM?
Mike - Glad DW okayed the posts again. There's no reason to log on if you're not going to be in true form.
Cam - During mile 4 this morning I was feeling tired and my legs hurt. My mantra became "Cam got a Mickey" to remind me that you did almost the entire marathon in pain!
Shan - It could be the caffeine, but you should see the doctor if it's still happening next week. I used to drink a Mtn Dew daily, and when I missed one it would cause migraines. (But then, there's a whole list of things that will cause migraines for me!)

Krista - Good to hear that your sis' blood pressure is down from what it was. Continued Pixie Dust for a quick recovery. HAve they set a surgery date now that her BP is lower? Hope your holding up okay. It's bad when something happens to you, but when it's a loved one, it's even worse. So Pixie dust to you as well for your spirit.
Cam, Dave, and Krista too - Awesome pics of you all with my man Mickey wearing your medals!
I am missing people, I know, but I am not doing it to be an individual on a great Team of awesome people. Life took over the last 48 hrs. It didn't feel like I had any time off of work.
Training note, then off to bed, I work the next two days...
Yesterday I did 40 min on the recumbent doing the "Rolling Hills" program while watching Star Ward Episode I (not sure how this tidbit figures in, but it was fun to watch)
Today I ran outside, without walk breaks. 2 miles, and felt really good, I think the sore calves are behind me. Then after my run, stretched and did my ab routine.
Happy Training!
See you all on Saturday!

...Does anyone belong to a track club/team? Would it be beneficial to sign up for the summer Y team? I would like to work on my speed and really don't know what I'm doing when it comes to that.I did the last 2 years, just haven't signed up this time for the summer program for NEO Fit an affiliat of USA Fit. We gather for weekend runs and the info and support was worthy of doing it, not to mention that it certainly made me feel that I HAD to get out of bed early on Saturday a.m.s to get those steps in. I won't be able to play with them this year due to other time conflicts. If you have the opportunity, I'd recommend joining up with others. I have a running store not far from me and may look at doing time with them.
I love the pics you've all posted with your medals.
I took a break tonight. LTO and all.
Jackie, I have envy too for a flex work place so I could do that.
Shan, you'll be ready for the half in 2008 January or May. Keep at it now and you'll be fine.
Night all, gotta get sleep...

Wow!! Thank you all very much for the support. But didn't your teacher always say not to encourage the class clown? It only makes it worse!
The only thing is that now I feel more than just a little bit of pressure. Village idiot I can do with no problem. Witty? I'm pretty sure not.
On a serious note, I'm glad DW - momoftwogirls (Hey, can't you change that since we have 3 DD's?) posted. She is often my moral compass and common sense... I guess I'd say my Jiminy Cricket. Of course, I still often end up hee-hawing away with donkey ears and a tail, but she tries.
I didn't register for my marathon until after she had all her plans for Minnie because I knew she wouldn't go otherwise. And for the record, she has sacraficed much of her training for Minnie so that I could prepare for my race. I can't thank her enough for her love and support.
Okay, maybe I'm not rolling around my office and pounding on the ground, but pretty darn close!
O.K. Cam - my job here will not be done until you are actually rolling on your office floor in laughter. Just be sure to do it when Pat and Rhonda aren't around. I'd hate for you to PM me your dry cleaning bill because they mistook lol for fof (fall on face) and doused you with Poweraid.
Kathy - Mike doesn't dance like Elaine on Seinfeld, does he? :happytv: ;)
Vic, I choose to think more like Elvis. Well, maybe Elvis in his last bloated moments as he flopped around on the bathroom floor in a drug overdose induced epileptic fit, but still...
And thanks for your many years of service preserving our rights. But please remember, foreign invaders and an in-house civil war are two different animals. Sometimes you have to make other sacrifices if you hope to raise your flagpole on Iwo Jima (subtle, eh?).;)

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:
Wow, I often find myself posting after Mike/Optimator. So tough to follow those posts. Especially when my time is limited, and I can't do truly fair posts where I get everyone.
Let me just say that yesterday I ran 3.76 miles (was planning for 3 and it took me another .76 to get home) in 33:49 min/9:00 mpm. As it was a training day for the princesses, DD6 princess: and DD9 princess:, I then did another 1.56 with DD6 princess: (DD9 didn't feel like running and practiced her tae kwon do). My run was fine, and I felt very comfortable. As I'm in taper mode, I kept telling myself to go slow, and I was surprised I still ended up with a 9:00mpm pace. The best part of my day was my run with DD6 princess:. She did fantastic! We had such a nice time running together side by side. We walked 5 min and then did 2 min run/1 min walk intervals. I was so impressed with her. We had such a nice time.
OK, I got up early to work on my grant. I better go.

Jackie - Way to get those steps in!
I did XT by b-day shopping for teh ILs last night. Not too exciting. Did a little pre-Minnie Packing piling. That was fun! Leg's stil bothering me, but can't get in fo rpT until tomorrow. This session was supposed to be subbed with teh gait analysis, but I'm beginning to think that they really don't do it. Rather frustrating. Have no idea weather to run on it tonight. Good morning TEAM!!! Greetings from soggy Ohio!! :) I did my last long run (6 miles) before the Pig last night. :woohoo: :woohoo: It was so muggy and humid here, I was literally dripping with sweat after I got home. I run with my hair in a bun and with a technical hat, when I took my hair down, it was so wet it looked like I put my head under water. In fact my hair was STILL damp 3 hours after my run. :scared: :scared: :scared: The run itself was okay, I've had a really tight calf the past 2 runs (Andrew, what did you do to stretch your calf?), it took about 3.5 miles for it to start to loosen up. I took Hines home after 4 miles and while I was dropping him off, I stretched my calf out. That seemed to help, the last 2 miles were much better, or maybe it was so good because I felt free after dragging a 70lb dog behind me! So I finished in 1:09:56--okay, I'd like to get that down to 1:00--where it was before the marathon and the IT band issue. I guess that gives me something to work on this summer. :)
Update on Shari--Thank you so much for all your prayers and pixie dust, they've really helped! I talked to Shari last night, her BP is down, but still high 130/111, she's on 3 different BP medicines as well as Predizone (sp???) for her migraines, which I guess can cause your BP to raise. She's gained 8lbs since she's been in the hospital, which is of course all water weight, which doesn't make her feel real great. Her surgery is scheduled for today and then she's meeting with a cardiologist and hopefully will be released to go home. I really hope this forces her into a healthy lifestyle, I know she wants to lose weight and more importantly eat right and exercise, as she's done different diets and exercise programs in the past, and has lost weight, but it's just hard to figure out what to eat, what cardio to do and stick with it. It's even harder because her husband isn't too interested in eating healthy or exercising and when you don't have that support at home, it's hard to give in to temptation.
There's so many posts to catch up to!!!!
Stephanie--Do you wash your hat in the wash machine? Mine's getting pretty grubby, I've washed it off with water, but I need soap!!!!! :) I still can't believe you're shooting for a 23:00 5K. More power to you!!!
Andrew--Thanks for your kind words. Stupid question, is Star Wars Episode I a good movie? I've seen the original Star Wars Trilogy and I liked those movies, but I haven't seen any of the new ones.
Mike/Optimator--You are a very sweet guy!!! Who knew?? ;) I'm glad that you're back. The first weekend in May is going to be quite busy for the Wish Team!!
Vic--You're scary when get all military-like!! Remind me to stay on your good side. ;) How are the boys doing? :wizard: for your foot!
Jackie--You have an awesome boss!!
Dave--You sound like an awesome dad! Your princess: 's are lucky to have you.
Carrie--I have to go to the grocery store tonight in the rain, I'm thinking about counting that as xt. :) I've started getting ready for WDW too (we're going May 11), I've got a nice pile of clothes started in the extra bedroom. I just have to get a couple of pair of shorts this weekend and I should be all set! I'm so excited to go!!!!!!!!!!!
Lily--I hope you enjoyed your day of rest. You certainly deserve it!
AI People--Who wants to adopt a little African child now? I want to bring them all home with me!!
I know I'm missing people, but I have to get started on my work. I can tell spring is here, the Carnies are out in full force!!!!! The company I work for manufactures concession equipment and supplies popcorn:: and I work with the past due accounts. Fun!!

Speaking of AI...I was up late last night with my job taking calls for American Idol...talk from my callers was that waits were upwards to 30 minutes or more for hold time...and a technical glitch across teh board impeded taking some donations. But otherwise..AI has raked in a lot of dough for the cause!!!
This morning I did 20 minutes on the bike (new batteries YEAH!!!). My quads seem to be week which of course is from my pregnancy and lack of working out---so hopefully when they get back into shape, my post partum non-exercise related (Except for lack of exercise) knee achiness will slowly go away.
I'm tired this morning and i still have ot homeschool the girls. :scared1: Time to go get my oldest started on Math...at least she has done her reading already and today we are doing a project with clay related to how they used to write way way way back in the olden days o' Egypt.
Saturday we head to EPCOT....we figured the park with the most indoor venues/attractions with the little one for his first visit. If all else fails, I'll be riding the boat in the land over and over and over again.:thumbsup2

Krista--- Glad your sister is doing better. Since you are a Steelers fan just need to share with you that this month in our area both Terry Bradshaw and Jerome Bettis have been in our area for fund raisers.
It was raining really hard yesterday so had to do my last 4 mile walk on the TM in 59 minutes. It was so hot in the gym and all the fans were in use, I thought I was going to melt away. I am doing stretch class tonight and then nothing else until my 1/2 on Sunday. The weather is suppose to be nice with temps in the 60's and partly sunny. I hope I remember the sunscreen. Just pulled up my Nike+ info from this morning.
I got my third session for the week in today cause I'm doing Field Day tomorrow at my daughters' school. Hopefully, it won't be a mud pit!
I had to run 3, walk 2 for a total of 45 minutes. I ended up going 3.62 miles with an average pace of 12:27. It was very humid, but I lucked out and the raindrops didn't start until I was cooling down. Overall, it wasn't too difficult for me - but my legs felt like lead or something when I first started. :confused3
Sooo, week 3 of 13 completed!
week 1 - 7.18 miles / 13:27 average pace
week 2 - 9.12 miles / 12:35 average pace
week 3 - 10.59 miles / 12:24 average pace
Good news is I woke up this morning with my headache gone! I'm praying it stays that way!
Hope everyone has a great day today! :goodvibes

Good morning everyone!
10 3-minute rounds with the heavy bag last night. The bag won by a split decision.
Mike(Optimator) - Welcome back!
Stephanie, Jackie and Nancy - Great job with the 4 milers.
Andrew - Sounds like the training is going well. Sorry about the LTO deal.
Dave - Great job with both runs.
Carri - Take care of the leg.
Krista - Glad to hear your sister is doing better. Great job with the 6 miler. The boys are doing fine. Earnhardt is on a diet, the chunky butt, and he's not real happy about it. Dusty, the wild man, is well, Dusty. :) Hoping Hines is doing well.
The foot is getting better. It's always something. We'll see how it reacts to running a 5K this Saturday.
Lisa - Glad you got new batteries!
Shan - Great job with the 3+ miler!
Take care.

Nancy and Jeanne--Good luck on your half on Saturday!!! I love both of your spirits and how support each other every step of the way. Definitely use sun screen and reapply every 2 hours. For the marathon, I filled a sandwich baggie with sun screen and a 2nd baggie with Body Glide and put both baggies in my running pouch so I had both on hand when I needed them. That was a life saver!!!
Nancy--Did you meet Jerome Bettis? I would love to meet him and Hines Ward. If I ever meet Hines Ward, we might have to use Kristi's GGD's Jail Fund!
Carrie--I will definitely suggest Curves and the Wish boards to Shari. I've thought about finding a half marathon with a very forgiving time and having all 4 of my sisters and me walk it together. Something next spring or summer might be nice.
Shan--You are on a roll!!! Seriously, the first few weeks are the hardest, but soon you'll get to the point where walking/running will be so ingrained to your schedule that you'll just do it. Doesn't mean that you want to do it, but you will because that's what you do. I'm glad that the headaches are easing up for you, when I go cold turkey off of caffeine, it's not a pretty sight! pirate:

Dave-- There is no way I exerted more energy in my 80min swog than you did in you 30. The pool environment can vary dramatically depending on how crowded it is and how many people are slapping water instead of swimming. During my swog there were very few swimmers, all making tranquil trickle-like sounds with their strokes. To top it off, the life guard, who was very young and covered in tatoos (my assumption then being "tough") was playing some sort of Chinese bamboo flute music! I was zoning out and forgetting to exert any energy for many moments.
Vic-- I'll have to tell my Dad you actually like his food. His was a thankless job. He poured his heart and soul into that Hooah bar and it never made it to the fields. It was sold off to become a commercial product. Have you ever had the "shelf-stable" deli sandwich? Let Subway try to make a sub that is shelf-stable for several decade!:rotfl:
Keeping consistent, I did 7.3 for my 8 miler last night.

Hi Everyone,
I ran an easy 3 miles yesterday and my quad was feeling much better. I guess the rest helped. One more run this week before my 10K on Sunday.
Cam, Dave and Krista: Thanks for sharing your Mickey pictures. I loved them.
Carrie: I think it's great you and DH can run together. I would never even try it with my DH, he's a sprinter and I'm there for the long haul. I hope your leg gets better soon.
Krista: Best wishes to your sister. Good job getting your LR done.
Andrew: Good job on the training. Glad your legs weren't sore.
Dave: I'm glad your run with DD6 was good.
Lisa: Good for you for getting back to training so soon after delivery, especially given the size of that baby!! He almost outweighed my twins combined (5lb10oz and 6lb1oz).
Nancy: Good job on the w/o despite the heat in the gym.
That's it for now. Have to get back to work.
Best Wishes to everyone.

Hey all... DD is back at daycare today. All the nebulizer treatments finally kicked in and her wheezing is down dramatically. She was so excited to go because it is crazy hair day. I wish I would have taken a picture, she was so cute.
Today my cross training is walking around the Business Expo picking up freebies. Can't wait!!!
Krista - So glad that your sister is doing better. I agree with Carrie, Curves or the Weight Loss WISH board would be great for her. Also, our YMCA has a program called Commit To Fit where they do 6 or 8 weeks of training with you to get you going on a fitness/weight loss program.
My foot is still a little achey. I am hoping to tape it up and do my LR of at least 8 miles tomorrow night. I am a little nervous, but I figure I have to at least try.

Hey! Get your stinkin' hands of my GGDs Jail Fund, woman! ;) :rotfl:
I have at least 2 more shows on the horizon...
I am glad your sister is doing better! That prednisone works wonders, but makes you gain weight like crazy. Has your sister tried Weight Watchers? I swear by them and I know alot of WISHers do also.

HaHa!!!! I think I'm all caught up on reading posts.
Krista - Your sister is in my thoughts and prayers.
I did skim some, so I think I missed lots of funny stuff, which i'm bummed about!
I'm going to a big outdoor festival w/ the outdoor/bike shop where i work this weekend. Phil and i are putting on an orienteering race. I've been mapping again this week. I did mt. bike twice this week, but am foregoing the run today as I will get some exercise in this weekend and I'm getting this house ready for a dog we adopted from the shelter. She had to be spayed b/4 the let us bring her home, so we are getting her today! She seemed pretty playful and healthy at the shelter, so I'm hoping for a faithful running partner soon!
Cam - as for being calm about the spider, I have to admit i was quite proud of myself for being able to catch it and take it in!! I even forced all of phil's coworkers to acknowledge my bravery and calmness!!:rotfl2: My natural response in crisis is to slow down and be very calm! (that made me terrible at changing boys diapers when he was a screaming infant!)
As far as the spider bite update, I suppose either it was not poisionous to me or it was a "dry" bite, b/c I haven't had any noticable effects! The day it happened, i took it up to phil clinic to the dr. who is pretty much the spider dude. He told me he thought it would be ok, but if my finger started looking bad then we could send the spider up to the university. I asked him what that would do for me and my finger and he told me I would be contributing to medical science:confused3 :rotfl:
Christa - good luck on your fast 5k!
Stephanie - thanks for thinking of me when you ran over the BDB!!! I was telling someone yesterday at work about the mean girls tri this past summer and I'm thinking if you and Christa really come, it will be bigger and more fun!!!
OK - better go clean house to get it ready for the new dog. (I'm sure she'll appreciate it and will not contribute to the mess around here at all!! right??)

ETA: The life guard wasn't actually playing a bamboo flute, it was a CD!
Sunny-I must have missed this referrence but playing the bamboo flute sounds like a naughty Chinese euphamism!:rotfl:
Shan- Great job on your run/walks!
Lisa- I'm home/cyber schooling my DDs and they made some Phoenician cylinder seals earlier this year. They had a good time and enjoyed 'priniting' with them.
Krista- More :wizard: for your sister.
Dave- Glad your DD are still enjoying the running. I'm loving sharing something that I really enjoy w/ mine, too.
I'm going to do 4 miles on the TM today while DD is at her Girls on the Run this afternoon. I'm typing it now to make myself HAVE to do it later. Otherwise I would slack off.

I'd gladly get her body moving!! And Mom would help her figure out what to eat, my Mom's lost 40lbs on Jenny Craig since last fall. :woohoo:

for what it's worth, I RAN for .25 mile last night, my longest actual "run" so far...that's with no stopping, no gasping for air, and no pain in my legs...
I did a total of 3 miles, just so you dont think I'm a total loser...
Good job, Angie!!! A quarter mile is awesome! I'm so jealous you can run. I originally tried to incorporate a litle jogging in my training to vary the muscle group and speed up the pace, but after giving birth to 4 children, I could tell the "girls" and the bladder were not going to cooperate. So between trying to control the 2 sacks of potatoes in the front and the little trickle trail in the back, I decided to revert back to walking only.

Good morning Racing Team -
The Minnie excitement is getting crazy! :yay: Ohh this is so much fun! :dance3:
Did 45 @ 4.0 @ 1% this morning. Nothing to write home about but hey, at this point, I'm just glad to do something. Please note: nothing hurt and there was no abnormal heart racing or dizzyness. Well, no more dizzyness than usual.
Yay! Mike's back to his normal, witty, charming, hysterical self! :rotfl: Thanks Kathy! :goodvibes
Dave - Yay! Most excellent day yesterday for both you and DD. :thumbsup2 You truely are fast!
Shan - Oh I'm so glad to hear the headache is gone! And I hope it stays away! :goodvibes
Krista - I'm glad to hear Sheri is doing better. :wizard:
Now Judy, are you insinuating that Vic's DW is a lousy cook, or where you pulling an "OptiMike" and turning MRE into an "*****-like" acronym
Sunny - Oh I would never say anthing bad about Mrs. Big Vic! And, umm, well....
AngiePD - YAY for you on the running! :woohoo: You GO girl!
Jen - I have "Crazy Hair Day" every day! Glad she's feeling better. I hope it goes well with your taped up foot. :wizard:

Melissa--I love my rescue puppy! But she was untrainable! As I"ve mentioned before--not a good running partner, too ADD for that!
Krista--yeah, I just chuck my hat in the wash after most workouts--it's beginning to shread around the bill. Guess I know what I need to look for at the Minnie expo! I did read an ad in the current Runner's World for a new detergent specifically for getting those icky sweaty smells out of workout gear. Might give that a try
Sunny--lol about the bamboo flute playing!
jeanneg--sacks of potatoes and trickle trail! OMG!:rotfl2:
Angie--no one will ever think you are a loser--don't even begin to think that! WTG on the run!!!
Lisa--WTG getting on the bike!
Went to my class this morning--hoping for mostly yoga--yeah right, today was that hard circuit training stuff-Ugh! Now for my running clinic tonight--hhopefully my quads and hammies will cooperate after this morning's workout!
Oh, and as an aside, I thought of our WISH military members this morning--We are in the flight training patteren of the C130s from the LR Air Force base--the kids think they're totally cool! Gotta run--need to fix some lunch!

Hello! I was reading a funny running book and the author was mentioning that there were several things he DIDN'T like the spectators to yell as encouragement.
I thought I'd ask here, having never done an event, what kinds of things DO you like to hear when you're doing a marathon or any other endurance event? What DON'T you like to hear? What do you find esp encouraging?
I got in 6 miles today, last LW before the Minnie, then had to go to the chiropractor, as my hip was twisted and it started bothering my knee. It's from my shoes that correct my gait. :confused3

I like: Keep it up, hang in there, way to go, you rock, you're winning...:lmao:

Hmmm, I dunno - When I hear that I only have a 5K left, that means something to me and I can relate to it. "Almost there" doesn't because I need to know what almost is! You know. So I don't mind hearing 5k left.... unless I was on the verge of dying and there was no way I could muster another 5K... well then the person yelling should know better and keep their mouth shut. Anyhooo... I love to read the signs that people have, they make me laugh and that is a good thing. Like "Beer next right" or "We are all Kenyans on the inside". Oh I really hate those people with air horns and when the blow them in my ear as I run by.... like that is going to motivate me! I had a bunch of that at Disney and it kind of got me irked!
Judy - Ha Ha on the Hot Shorts comment. I guess it depends on what the person saying it looks like!

When i feel like crap--I HATE HATE HATE hearing "You are almost there--you can make it" or any variation.
I know others feel similarly...b/c we stayed and watched the entire full last year until the very last runner came in.
When you get to those at the end who are too pooped and have that obvious expression of "Is this ever going to end"....on their face.
Well my teammate and I were situated at the end just at that bend where you turn to the right and head right into the chutes.
We were telling them you are here--the finish line is right there. Had a few that I think were ready to deck us...had some others who didn't believe us...had a funny moment where one woman told us it wasn't and we said--no it is...Look...she looked up and took off running.
In this case they were really at the end and the finish line was LITERALLY around the corner. But I hate hearing statements like that when you can't see the finish line. Call me a pessimist...but until I see the finish line....I'm nowhere near close to finishing.
One lady appreciated that when her hubby and baby found her in EPCOT...as they came to the full finish chutes--I told her to turn the stroller around so baby would be facing the cameras (I think the baby was still in an infant seat). She was exhausted and of course didn't think of that...I found her afterwards and she thanked me for suggesting that.
I think I saw someone one year who had a sign that said something like "Sweat is sexy"....that one made me :lmao: . I took a picture which exists in my home somewhere.
Cheerleaders are wonderful---with noisemakers and everything. But as a team cheering person--we have found that some spectators absolutely hate folks like us. But we have found time and time again--that for most busting their buns to finish a race..they appreciate that foolishness.

OH and the year I participated with the flu (totally do not recommend that approach  )..
At the end in the last half mile..I got so sick (not literally :rolleyes1 ) of hearing in the last mile not less than 100 times..."Are you okay" (no--but I'm finishing go away!) "Is someone with you?" (Do you not see my TNT coach standing next to me you silly TNT coach from another chapter who does not know me?) "Do you want a drink of water, you should really drink" (Yeah and I'll puke it right up on you--but thanks for offering for the 50th time in the last 5 strides).
Of course if you ever see someone who looks out of sorts in a race--it is your duty to check on them..but when it looks like they've got it and they have someone with them and the paramedics aren't wrestling them to the ground to make them stop running...most likely they are fine and will be hightailing it to the med tent as soon as they finish!
***This was a public service announcement from someone who ran with the flu, the full in 2005...and the last mile was completed with her nose plugged and mouth covered b/c if she didn't she was going to make a few messes in World Showcase. So if you wake up with the flu...JUST SAY NO and ditch the medal! :thumbsup2

OH This is rich! Talking about what we do and don't like to hear in a race!
Do like!
1. Anything that talks about how good I look! (even though I don't)
2. Yelling my name!
3. Saying I am doing great...cow bells....foolishness rocks!
4. I always ask people if I am winning...sometimes this messes with their minds, but I love it when they play along and say yes!
5. I also like to say to people (during a marathon)......."I thought this was a 5k"!:lmao:
6. I also like to say, Did we pay for this pain.
Don't Like!
1. Telling me it is down hill the rest of the way! Liar!
2. the 5k and 10k comment really doesn't bother me too bad but I hate it when people say ALMOST THERE at mile 20.
I normally like to talk to people and cut up during a race, but some people don't like that in a race. And anyone out there who is cheering for me really is a super person and I am really thankful they are there. Stupid comments and all!

I love reading all the comments you guys like to hear from the spectators. I love the ones who are foolish out there ones too. They are definitely the most encouraging. The last 10K I ran right in the last 1K a girl yelled that it was all downhill from there. I grumbled to the gal next to me that it would be pretty cruel if she was lying! Thankfully she was right an it was a great downhill stretch!
I got an AWESOME 3 mile training run in over lunch! I hit the pathway downtown with a bunch of other Calgarians out enjoying the sunshine and warmth. Trust me - the 57 deg felt like summer today! Anyhow, I got the run in at 31:33, a 10:31/mi pace which is really speedy for me. Here are my splits:
10:29
10:34
10:19
So I kept it pretty consistent. I was very frustrated thanks to an incident at work so maybe that fueled my run. Let's just say that I'm not a newbie engineer and I don't appreciate being treated like a kid and yelled at in a meeting by my coworker when I've been working my behind off to save her project.
Oh well, almost time to head home, then run to the airport since my mom arrives tonight for our Minnie trip! Thank goodness I'm going on vacation soon!

As for training, I am taking it easy this week. In fact, today was the first time I got out for some light running. I did about 2 miles very easy. I think I am ready for my race sunday....Actually, I am VERY excited! Thank you all for the support and encouragement over the last four months....I am not sure I could have come this far without all of you!
Now to catch up with everyone:
Stephanie--Great news about Phil's biopsy!!
Krista-Sending :wizard: and prayers for your sister. I hope all is well with her. Also, I love your reasons for hoping you are not pregnant! It is funny how we all think about our race schedules when figuring things out in our daily schedules.

So much to catch up on, but I will say, everyone seems to be doing great! I love hearing about "real" races, because I have no experiance, so any and all stories will be enjoyed by me :)
I got 2 miles in yesterday. My knees still felt pretty sore from the long walks over the weekend. I decided to just do a strong 2 miles, and went about 16:30 for each. Knees still were mad at me, but I think the rest day from Tuesday was good. I'm hoping that I'll feel up for 3 fast miles tomorrow (closer to 15 mpm for the 3).
Today I got some actual XT in. I used to be a swimmer/water polo player (for like 10 years!), but I haven't been in the pool since my surgery. (My back injury was probably from swimming, and I had to stop). I was only in for 30 minutes, but it was nice, and I kept moving pretty much the whole time. I did a lot of leg work, because it's easier to keep my spinal alignment if I'm not using my arms. Luckily I also know a lot of arm work, and was able to do a bit of that.
Just as an aside, I coach swimming, so if anyone ever needs pointers or ideas for workouts, just let me know. I'd be happy to help!
And I am desperatly trying to convince DH that I should go to Orlando for both the ToT race and the 1/2. He's not buying it, and believe me, I'm using every trick in the book :lmao: .

Did an "easy" 10 miles today at a 9 MPM pace. It was HOT though. 88 when I started at 1200. And I ran out of water. Why did I run in the heat of the day?

I like it when people pick you out of a crowd to cheer you on. I was running up one of the little hills during the 1/2 and weaving around all the walkers. I remember someone saying "way to push it up the hill Jennifer". I was like "right on".
But the best things I EVER heard during the 1/2 came from the WISHers. I teared up all the time because I had "buddies" all over the place.
I promise to NEVER EVER say "It's only a 5K left"!!!!!!

I'll keep this specific to the WDW Marathon, since so many have done it or will do it.
What I don't like (a short list):
1. That total fool with the microphone at the start who after I've run 200 meters is yelling "faster, go faster." I have 42,000 meters to go. Shut up.
What I do like:
1. Looping under the overpass at mile 1.5 and seeing the local running club with grass skirts and music coming from the boom box cheering us from up on that overpass.
2. Running through the chute entering EPCOT, the families and friends pulling for their loved ones, even though I'm not one of them, is wonderful.
3. Going past the same local running club around mile 5. Their outfits, silly music, and sillier antics are a trip.
4. The band at mile 7 near the Hess Station. I always applaud them up high for cheering me up and on.
5. Running through the wider chute in mile 9 at the Ticket and Transport center. Some of these folks were also at the EPCOT chute, and they are still cheering for their loved ones instead of me, but I forgive them for that oversight.
6. Running up the super narrow chute on Main Street in the Magic Kingom. It always makes me feel like I'm in the Tour de France. Awesome!
7. I would enjoy the folks by the Grand Floridian and Polynesian encouraging me, but in my 2 marathons at that point I've felt truly horrible. Hopefully their good waves will hit me when I'm still on my surfboard.
8. I think I'm in the minority here, but I like the dumb signs in mile 15. It's such a desolate stretch, and I feel awful, and my mind is pointing out that I am now running AWAY from the finish, and that only a great fool would do that when he feels badly. It could be because I'm barely old enough to recall the Burma Shave signs, but I like to be cheered on by signs.
9. At mile 20 I don't care to hear I only have 10K to go. Listen sir or lady, I can still do the math in spite of near body and mind breakdown. I also don't care to hear "you look great" at this point, since I know I don't. I don't take this personally, as they all mean well. Plus when I give my standard and accurate reply, "I don't feel great," they have the grace to laugh at my poor attempt at humor.
10. Funny, when popping out of the backstage tour tunnel in the studios I love to hear "you only have 5K left." I don't know why 10K makes me mad and 5K makes me glad, but there is something about a distance which, when fresh, I can run well under 30 minutes, gets me all juiced up. Of course I'm not fresh and it isn't going be sub 30 minutes on marathon day, but I try hard to not think about that every 4 seconds.
11. I love to hear any encouragement of any type while circling World Showcase. I realize any compliments are a complete lie, but I'm okay with that. The fact that the distance around the lake seems to grow with each step ("you have entered the Twilight Zone") tells my mind that I cannot believe my own thoughts, and therefore must believe others who must be rational. So any encouraging words and compliments keep me going.
12. And lastly, I love to turn right past Spaceship Earth and see the Gospel Choir. As I get closer and can hear them I give my second hands up high applause to them, and mumble "thank you" as best I can. Their songs tell me I have run 42,000 meters and have only 200 meters to go.
13. And as a postscript, as I near the finish I don't want to hear that dope on the microphone again telling me to kick it in and fight for a better place and time. At this point I'm fighting just to stay upright.
Is it healthy to be so excited for January 13, 2008, a mere 8 1/2 months away?

Wow, Craig. You brought me right back to that place and time. Great list! I also agree that every step around World Showcase after mile 25 seems to get longer and longer. I remember this past year walking through one country and then running through the next. I couldn't believe I was so close to the finish and I couldn't make myself run through. I usually love World Showcase, it's our favorite part in all of WDW, but at mile 25, it's not quite the same.
I, too, can't wait for Jan 08!!

That's a CHOIR? I always thought that was a band of the heavenly host hot on my heels to take me home because I feel close to death by the time I hear them.:)
I hope it is healthy because yesterday I had a really strange moment. I was putting on my running shoes and doing my little sock straightening ritual when I realized I was smiling like a fool. I have started to love getting my shoes 'just right' so that I can run and think about January! I'm getting addicted to this stuff.
Did do 4 miles on the treadmill yesterday just over 40:00. I was 'talking' to the old man next to me who was shuffling on his TM. He kept yakking away and I must respect my elders so I tried to talk. He couldn't hear me over the treadmill noise so he kept asking me to repeat myself! I could barely answer the first time. Even had my headphones on but he probably figured they were hearing aids. I was so glad to be done.

Good morning TEAM!! Happy Friday! I have good news on Shari, the surgery went fine yesterday and they feel like they got enough of her vein to figure some stuff out. The incision was above her temple, right on her hairline, they had to shave a little of her hair away. They won't know the results until late afternoon or Monday, but knowing this hospital, she won't know the results until Memorial Day. They aren't the quickest moving bunch of people. :sad2: Anyway, as soon as the surgery was done, Shari's headache went away and her vision cleared, it had been blurred since last Friday; they *think* the migraines were caused by an infection somewhere in her body. They *think* the high BP is being caused by something being wrong with her kidney's. They've been taking urine samples from her all week and found out that her protein levels are too high, so (I hope this is right, especially with all the medical people here who will know if I say it wrong :) ) the kidney's are working overtime to break down the protein and causing the high BP. My family has a history of high protein levels in the kidney's, so that makes sense. The doctors will know more when they get the test results back. Shari's still in the hospital, but she is hoping that her family doctor will release her when he comes in today.
I just thought of something else I HATE hearing on the marathon course. Mile 19: sorry folks, we're out of water and Power Ade. Mile 20: Sorry, we're out of cups.
Kiena--Congrats on your run! I don't know how you guys run at the gym or Y or wherever! I run on the TM, but we have one at home, in our nice cold basement.
Carrie--I love that picture!!! You're making me want to run the marathon!!!!! Maybe I can talk someone into being a surrogate mother for me so I can have a baby and still run the marathon.

Craig--I always love reading your posts! And, no, I don't think it's too early to start getting excited about Jan! Actually, in front of me right now, is the course map for the marathon. I started printing stuff out for the Minnie and I just couldn't stop.
Well, I did get to my running clinic last night--and they were nice and we really did do an easy run. It was weird for me not to push it--but I really appreciated it afterward. I think the leader said we ran 4.46 in 40-45 min or so. I forgot my Garmin at home, so, at least for me, I was running blind. It's scary how dependent on technology I've become. I started to have a minor panic attack when I realized that I didn't have it with me. But it ended up being a more free run, not tied to a specific pace. I was just running to run, and enjoying the beautiful spring day (minus the kickin' wind)
One week from today I'll be on a plane to Florida!!! :woohoo: It's gonna get crazy around here this week, I can just feel it!;)
Krista--we must've posted at the same time--Great news that your sister's surgery went well. Here's hoping that the med team can figure out what's what and soon.

Krista -- so glad to hear the good news about Shari. I still have that scar at the edge of my hairline but no one but my hair stylist and Howard and I really know it is there. I am so glad the headache and blurred vision are resolving. :)
Craig -- all very valid observations. I am with you on most of them. I can't believe how little of the marathon I remember until someone gives some detail and then it is like the memory is restored. I am so grateful to everyone who shares their memories here.
Disnutt -- I can just imagine you smiling and I have no idea what you look like! :confused3 But the fact is that I know EXACTLY what that is like.
How crazy is this? We are planning 2 nights 1 day at POFQ before we leave on a 4 day WONDER cruise in July. I told our Travel Agent she had to build running time into the itinerary for Saturday and Sunday mornings before our ADRs. I am actually planning morning runs as PART OF MY VACATION PLANS!!! Ever since my solo trip last March when I went out every morning and walked from OKW to SSR and around the resorts, I have longed for the peacefulness and sense of accomplishment that comes from getting up early on vacation and doing something that is so good for my body. :goodvibes:
Exactly one week from now I will be sitting on a plane awaiting departure. :yay:

I'll keep my fingers crossed that they can figure something out from the sample.

Thanks for the positive update on your sister.

My favorite thing to do when traveling, especially when I'm in a new city and have gone across a bunch time zones and am up really early, is to get out literally at the crack of dawn and go for a walkabout. There is something special about being out by yourself exploring the city before it comes to life.
Stephanie
Good for you run and pace. I understand relying on the Garmin, but I suspect with your experience if you were running without it and someone asked how fast your pace was, you could estimate it within 10-15 seconds per mile. It is nice to look at your wrist and get a reading, but I think if you look inside your body you'd get almost the same number. Plus, you are correct, having that thing on your wrist does tend to take the spontaneity out of the run. You become a servant to techonology. As Steve has observed, this always happens to me when I'm at the track, no matter how pure my intentions. I know precisely how far and fast I'm going, and that little voice inside me turns the plan for the day, whatever it was, into a little time trial to see what I've got in my legs!

I'm oging to start with teh update on my run so that I end on a happy note. Maybe that's all I need to say, but you know how I love to ramble. ;) Ran last night. SUcked it up and made 40 minutes. Hurt like the dickens, but sometimes runnign helps adn I was desparate for relief yesterday. My pace was ok, nothing stellar. Stretched adn iced and wanted to cut my leg off. The whole thought that no matter what I do to my leg that's hurting won't help, because the pain comes from teh booty still causes war in my brain. The WIngs were losing and I could not sit still, so I toook a hot tub adn that seemed to help a bit. Did PT today and it relieved things some, but I know it's gonna' be a long day again.
PT is finally seeign my desparation but cannot find any ansers. he thinks the fact that I sit all day is not helping. He or the PT that does video gait analysis will call me this am. (I've been hearing that for a ocuple weeks, though.) :( I still have my appt with teh "Osteopathic Manipulator" in mid May. I was really hoping for something to be better before then, though.
Krista - Woo hoo for Shari feeling better and possible answers. FYI, there are many children in this world w/o parents. No need to make one yourself. ;)
Kiena - lol about the choir! My dh swore they were nto sinign when we went by in 06. Then again he swore he did not see CHip or Dale at teh end, but I have pix of him slapping one of their paws to prove they were. ;)
Craig - Awesome list. Yes, 5K I can relate to and seems do-able. 10K, not so much. I love the bands and the cheerleaders. How cool is it the HS kids get up at ungodly hours to help us? I LOVED teh signs in 06 around the 15 mile mark.
Best thing to see on the course??? My LIME GREEN FRIENDS!!!!
