Airmiles has for a limited time 7 day Disney tickets for the amount of 5 days. A little savings for those needing tickets!

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if I could purchase the Disney tickets using airmiles, then trade them in for a credit towards renewing my AP at Disney? It should work, but other opinions are welcome!

I'm pretty sure that you can. I remember reading that other Canadian DIS'ers had done just that. I can't remember what the trade in value you'll get was.

Yup! Have done it three times already and will be doing it again in 3 weeks! The credit depends on how much airmiles paid for the ticket. The last time we did it over a year and a half ago, it costed around $70 american extra per ticket for an upgraded 7 day PHP. Hope this helps!

Does anyone know if any other program trades into airmiles. Namely aeroplan. I can't call right now and I'm wondering if there is a way to come into the program through another. I know ....probably dreaming.

I think I remember that HBC trades in. Or something like that.

Thanks,

Lisa

Which ticket did you trade in? When you upgraded, did they tell you what the value of the ticket was?

I can't honestly remember. I don't think they tell you the value, I think they just let you know how much you owe.

Is there anyway of knowing what the actual value of the ticket would be for credit? I'm assuming then that if it's say a 5-day basic ticket, it would be worth less than what Disney sells it for at the gate?

I am getting our 7 day base tickets from airmiles.... for 5 of us. (i have already ordered 3 tickets and still need to save enough airmiles for the 3rd and 4th)

I had planned to upgrade all the tickets to park hopper once i get down there ( i thought to get the park hopper option added it was something like $40 or $45 USD per person-flat rate????- oh wait a minute- DhlovesDisney: when you upgraded to 7 day PHP for about $70 per person does that include more than just park hopper option??)

Good question about upgrading tickets used to AP!?? i wonder if that can indeed be done and for how much $?? If so, is it possible that i could apply an AP discount to my room-only reservation when the AP discounts come out by telling them that i intend to upgrade my ticket to an AP upon arrival at WDW ?????? hmmmm, i wonder if it can be done, and i wonder if it would be worthwhile cost-wise????? hmmmm, then maybe i could get that DDE card for discounts on my TS meals??? oh boy, am i getting way ahead of myself here:confused3:upsidedow :scared: :upsidedow :scared: :confused3

Linda,

i think i had confused what you said- i was thinking you had upgraded base tickets to PHP tickets.... but i think you meant that you had upgraded PHP tickets to AP's , right?

i was trying to do a search and came upon this thread:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=639454&referrerid=&highlight=airmiles+upgrade+tickets+AP

What i don't understand is how you used the tickets received by airmiles to go online and upgrade to AP's ??? ( note- this is going to be my first WDW trip - as an adult, anyway, lol)

That's okay, it's all quite confusing anyway. As for getting AP rates if and when they come out, you need to show the AP when you check in and it MUST be an adult one. Check carefully to see if you really want to do this, as the AP rates have not been that good lately, and it can be a terrible waiting game.

I am getting via airmiles the Child 7 day hopper with magic plus options and no expiration.

When I get to Disney I will upgrade that to an adult for $35. The Disney CM told me to use the options first , then exchanged it for the AP. The cost for that would be just $35.00 more! That childs ticket is worth about 390.00 the AP is 435.00 or 465.00?

We are planning another trip within the year and won't have to buy tickets. I'm buying an adult ticket at Disney Store in Canada and then upgrade that too for a AP.

yeah, i'll have to think about this, because even if i did get the AP rates for the room then from the sounds of it i would have to go to one of the parks to upgrade my ticket to an AP before even checking into the room- that would be a bit crazy, i would think. especially considering we won't be returning to WDW within the same year...

I am fairly certain that if you use your airmiles ticket first and it has the water park option on it, then you want to upgrade to an AP, you will have to upgrade to a Premium AP that includes the water parks.

In my experience, I get the 5 or 7 day airmiles MYW base ticket, enter a park using the airmiles ticket and then head straight to guest services where i ask to upgrade the ticket to an AP. The CM will first upgrade my airmiles ticket to an equivalant MYW gate priced ticket ( without charging me the difference between the price airmiles paid for the ticket and the gate price), then they upgrade my (gate priced) ticket to an AP and charge me that difference.

I have also gone straight to guest services without using the ticket first and been charged the difference between what airmiles paid for the ticket and an AP. :scared1: Talk about sticker shock!

As for checking in, I have been asked for my AP and I explained that I had to upgrade my ticket at a park, the CM asked me to return the next day and show my AP or I would be charged rack rate.

I spoke to a Disney ticketing specialis by phone this week and they advised me to use the magic options up first. She told me there would be no problem upgrading the ticket to an Annual pass with one day left on it.

Now, I am completely confused and worried too. My DS 10 years old wants t otry Typhoon Lagoon, DisneyQuest and possible Blizzard Beach....What is the difference in price between a premium pass verses annual pass?

Thanks

I'm somewhat confused on what you're saying. Are you saying it's better to use the ticket and then upgrade? In my case I would be renewing an AP rather than upgrading to an AP. Don't know if this makes a difference. Are you saying that there's quite a difference in what airmiles pays for the ticket and what Disney charges for it? How do they even know it came thru airmiles?

I added extra days to my ticket and hopper which was 35.00. Then to add an extra day it was only $2 US funds. This was after I used the ticket. Nowhere on the tickets does it say airmiles? I'm going to call Disney right now and inquire. I'd like to know before I get via airmiles the premium ticket from airmiles.

Hello,

I am new to this board. From BC and been to WDW x 1 and DL x 2. This time I am planning on using points for everything. Is there a trick to getting the airmile points quickly?? It seems to take sooooo long! Save on More points are fairly quick to collect for the airfare.....has anyone bought airmile points from ebay?

Ok here goes:

The first time I did this was Feb '05. I arrived in Orlando and went straight to DTD guest services to upgrade to an AP. I had a 7 day Park hopper with water parks from airmiles. The CM said that the park hopper I had from airmiles was issued to a travel company in canada ( maybe sunquest?) and that the value of the ticket was about $60 less than gate price. so in order for me to upgrade to and AP, the CM charged me $60 plus the difference to upgrade to and AP which was about another $60 or so.

Fast forward to January of 2006, my DH had an airmiles 7 day Base that had 1 day left on it from our dec.05 trip. We upgraded to an AP at guest services at MGM. The CM there said that the AP would be good for a year from the first time we used in Dec 05. She also exchanged the ticket for a full price gate admission ticket (no charge) and THEN upgraded to an AP charged $50 or so dollars for the upgrade)

Fast forward again to August 06' I have a 5 day MYW with water park and I want an AP(not premium just a plain AP) CM at Guest services at MGM ( before entering MGM) Says I can only upgrade to a Premium because my ticket has water parks on it. I point out that it is unused. so he says he has to charge me the difference between what the airmiles ticket was sold for ( to sunquest AKA Airmiles) and the gate price PLUS the upgrade to an AP. Total $192. Still great for an AP but the moral of my story is:

Get the 7 day MYW base ticket from airmiles, use the first day THEN upgrade to an AP.

These are my experiences.
Good Luck!

Folks
Has anyone used Airmiles to buy the 7 day base ticket for the price of a 5 day and then added the hopper option and no expiry when they got to Orlando? If so, what did the upgrade cost?

Thanks
John

to add hopping is $45 plus tax so $47.93 to add no expiry to a 7 day ticket is 90 plus tax so $95.85.:goodvibes

Thanks for your information. I was getting conflicting stories from Castmembers and then they put me through to ticketing specialist.

Here's what I have been told.

1. I can change over a magic your way ticket with option and no expiration for an Annual pass, if I use no days.

2. If I use days and options Disney will discount the days I have used and reduce the trade up value.

3. I can upgrade to a premium pass for about 130.00

Now it is deciding what to do. My child wants to go to DisneyQuest and Typhoon Lagoon. Would it be cheaper to upgrade to the premium or just give pay for a day at Typhoon Lagoon and DisneyQuest. He is considered an adult.
We are at Disney for 20 days this coming Christmas and returning to Disney for MNSSHP in 2008. This is the reason I want to upgrade to annual passes.

PS> Had it not been for your past experiences I would have used all my options days and then the tickets would have worth nothing! Glad these boards are here!

OK so let's pretend that you have an annual pass and you are upgrading to a Premium AP. The price difference is AP $462.21 and PAP $595.34 so a difference of $133.13 including tax ( Remember that you have paid to upgrade your MYW ticket to and AP so the $133.13 is in addition to your initial cost of upgrading)

One day at the water park is $41.54 including tax and one visit to Disney Quest is $38.34 including tax so you would have to at least visit the water parks twice and Disney quest twice in order to make it worthwhile. You have a better chance of using the water parks in Sep/ oct of 2008 because sometimes december can be quite cool, plus only typhoon lagoon is open in december (TL is excellent!!:thumbsup2 )

So there you go. Good luck with everything!

Hmmm, it is odd, (isn't it?) that the price to upgrade to an AP is lower after you have already used the ticket to enter the park!

Thanks, b-1 for posting all this detailed info!!
It is encouraging that they let you check in and THEN show the AP the next day after u upgraded your ticket. (i'm on the fence about whether to try to get in on the AP room rates if they are really good then upgrade my 7 day base tickt.... although i'm leaning toward forgetting this whole idea, since i'll be all stressed about whether it will work out and worry about how many hoops i'll have to jump through ... not to mention not knowing my way around WDW - it's our first trip!also, may not be really worth it just for the room discounts as we won't be at WDW within the same year to take advantage of the AP!! sorry to ramble on here, i guess i'm thinking out loud:laughing: )
But, thanx again for posting your experience with this!!

the AP benefits also include 10% off at world of disney ( that can add up when buying souvies for a crowd!) and an AP makes you eligible for the Disney Dining Experience card which is an additional $60 ($65) and saves 20% off (almost )all table service restaurants(including alcohol for those that are so inclined) This can be a great savings depending on the size of your crew and how many times you eat at table service restaurants

The DDE card also gets 20% off at certain counter service restaurants like the food court at FQ and at Pop as well as Tusker house and Flame tree in AK. So the value increases if you stay at either Pop or FQ.

Geez, I am full of it today.:rotfl:
