DW and I are going to do the ToT.
As for our lodging, things are up in the air. It's complicated. I made a reservation for Scopa Towers, but I have points in "holding", so when we get within the 60 day window, I'd like to make a reservation for a studio anywhere for the ToT, UNLESS my waitlist for May comes through, in which case I won't have any more "holding" points, so I can call and make a reservation outright for October...I should have stopped with "It's complicated."

Denny LOL. Who knew Disney was so complicated! Then there is the meal planning, which needs to be called in soon. But at least the 3 of us sat down and hammered that down into a 1st/2nd/3rd choice per day LOL
Denny! we're in at OKW but we tried to get a Studio elsewhere after booking and I think Susan said she could get us in for Friday/Saturday nights but Thursday was a problem. Not sure how that affects you or maybe there will be cancellations. Either way is there really a bad place to lay your head when your at Disney? LOL

I do not know if my wife would let me try this (going to WDW for vacation this summer and I have registered for the 2008 Donald as my first distance event of any kind). I would think there is some kind of time limit (15-16 minutes/mile), but I don't see anything listed on the site. Does anyone what the time limit is? I have seen windwalker referencing that he plans to do a slow pace, but I assume that his slow is quite different than what my slow is/will be. (Given some physical issues I've previously posted, I would have to walk this as I will the Donald.)
Also, if I could swing getting there and my training is progressing, does anyone have an opinion as to whether this might be a good event just to do as a first "race" to get some experience before the 2008 Donald as to how races are organized, run, the feel at the start, how to deal with the "Disney Experience" while participating, etc. I would really love to do this if "life" doesn't get in the way.
I hope this post isn't too off topic to the thread. If so, someone let me know and I will start another thread.

I would venture to guess the time limit would be 15 minutes/mile.
IMO, this would be a good race to get your feet wet. I ran the 1/2 this year, and it was my very first race. I decided to go with the flow, and didn't encounter any problems. You may want to try a couple of local races to see how things are organized and run. The thing that got me at WDW was the number of runners.
Come on, you know you want to do it. :thumbsup2

I definitely want to do it. But ... I definitely don't want my DW to throw me out of the house or get me reservations for a nice windowless room somewhere with rubber walls (although the medication might be good).
ETA: Do any husbands think I could get away with saying the afternoon of the race that I am going out to get some milk and return home the next morning after catching the early morning direct flight back to CT (hopefully remembering to pick up some milk on the way back from the airport)?

I am signed up for the TofT event along with my hubby, John. He can not walk 8 miles at a 15 minute pace, so I hope that info is incorrect. Since there were no minimum times listed, could it be we have virtually the entire 4 hours to finish? (not that he'll need that much time!) it sounds more like a fun event then competitive challenge. We are booked at BWV for Fri and Sunday and waitlisted for Thurs. If it doesn't come through, we may stay at the Swan/Dolphin for one night.

nepatsfan - I think it's in the WISH runner/walker bylaws that you have to be a little crazy to do what we do. :teeth:
Speaking as a wife, I don't think your suggestion of going out for milk will work. Unless, that is, you do this kind of thing a lot. ;)
I think this race will be a lot of fun and a good warm up to the half next year. The half this past January was my first event ever and I wished that I had done some smaller races before. I think you need to go for it! :thumbsup2 There will be a lot of us there to help cheer you on. :cheer2:

nepatsfan, the truth always works for me but I really sold DW on the Food and WIne festival for her (us;) ) and MNSSHP for DD and DS.
As a side question, does anyone know what happened to the WISH team hat purchase thread - being inept at searching today - because I would really like to represent at this event?

Jeanne there are some awesome training plans for walkers on the walking site. Patty who runs the site is a personal trainer with many many years of experience.
I train like a runner with a long walk that gets longer every other week and lots of hill routes. I started working with Erica, who has bad knees and hips so running was a desaster. She can walk 13 min miles for 20 milers.
There is six months to train so 15 min miles are doable. I can post links to racewalking for you to look at.
We are going to do this together and encourage each other the whole way. No WISH team member is gonna get swept.

Thanks, Dave for the encouragement. Hubby does not read these boards but I will have to show him your post. You and I both know that with training, he CAN do it. Unfortunately, there will always be something more important he has to do at any given moment rather than train. Trust me, we've been together 38 years and I know the man. I also know that he will be amazingly proud of himself if he does it. It seems to me, that the jump from a 16 to 15-minute pace is something like a quantum leap for walkers. But as you say, we still have 6 months to prepare. Guess I have a new mission now!

When I turned 50, 5 years ago, I had let my fitness go to pot. I was over 200 lbs, my 38 waist pants were cutting me into and I would get winded cleaning my windshield at the gas station. I changed my attitude and turned it around. I was a smoker also.
I started going to the mall when it opened at 7 am and walked a lap, then 2 then finally up to 4 miles 5 times a week. Then started running till I got hurt, then ran for two years hurt and finally gave up the running and took up racewalking.
You just have to make the decision. Let him know we are here to help in any way we can.

I've got everyone up to here. :yay:
Jeanne - I started training for the WDW half marathon in Jan., 2007 last October (2006). I started with about a 16.5 min. mile. By the time the half started, I was at about a 14.5 minute mile. I ended up doing the half at slightly less than a 15 minute mile due to the heat.
I really believe John can do this. It will take training, though, and maybe you can wiggle a carrot in front of him to get him started. Give him some incentives. The overall incentive for me was the medal but I had to set short goals. There were times that I wanted to quit. The training was tough. Some of the kind folks on this board kept me going. The medal at the end was sooooooo worth it.
Tell John that we are all rooting for him (and you!) and that we'll see that you both get that medal! :cheer2: :woohoo:

Cam, yes! We need to all meet up, if possible. :thumbsup2
Anne - I did have to twist Steve's arm. He's not quite the Disney freak that I am. For shame! Actually, I just told him that I'm going and he could come too, if he wanted. ;)
Jeanne - good luck on your half-marathon this weekend. :cheer2: I decided to do the full for the special Mickey medal. It's supposed to be one-of-a-kind so I gotta go for it. Now, I just hope I can. :scared:  The half, for me at least, was really tough. Whew!

 Dave I really hope I have the chance to cross paths with you and Erica this weekend. Listening to you makes me think of the walks I have with Susan. She gets going and I swear i need a depends half way thru the walk (which by the way she managed to bring me a pair for this past Jan half, there would be a reason I outpace her :rolleyes1 )
We just made our dinner reservations for ToT weekend and Cathy has officially signed up for it. i actually can't wait for NEXT week to get back into the swing of training since I've been out sick this past week and this weekend is the Flying Pig 10K for us. i just want to get back out there and start seeing my training plan in action. Since I've gotten the Garmin (101) i've seen that with a little pushing on my part I'm just barely over the 16 minute pace for some miles and in some cases under 15 minutes. My Half overall pace was either 15:47 or 15:37 with again a couple under 15. So now that I have the Garmin I'm anxious to get back out there and work on getting faster but also more consistent.
Happy training to all and to those racing this weekend all the best and tons of Pixie dust for PRs!!! :cheer2:
Dave I will be wearing a WISH shirt for the 10K and as long as my recovering body doesn't give out for the 5K also this weekend :)

I'll be wearing a wish shirt for the expo on friday. I think black jeans also depending on the temp outside.
Can't wait to start the weekend, onward and up the freaking mountain that's right in the middle of the half and full.
We will be there a watching DianeL. Might wear a wish shirt to watch also. Again depending on the temp. Cincinnati can be as unpredictable in may as DisneyWorld is in Jan.

I wouldn't be surprised if people see us and think we are totally wasted and yet we haven't had a drop LOL Heck, that about describes how we finished our 12 miles on this past Saturday. Question for anyone who might know.
This is my first race so I am really unsure how procedure works. I mailed my registration to Disney for the race, wanted the DVC discount. They have cashed my check but is there anywhere I can look to confirm the registration? Is it just wait until you check in, or how does this work?
Thanks

Welcome to all new registrats!!!!!!
We have decided we are not going to wear halloween costumes for MNSSHP. Since we are only going in for a long weekend we hope to get away with just carry ons and can't quite fit in costumes.
However, I noticed that we can pick up our ToT glow in the dark shirts on Friday...times to be announced so we might just wear those.
Wahoo getting so excited.

I'll be going to the MNSSHP Friday night and I was thinking about wearing the ToT glow in the dark as my costume. Very original, I know. :teeth:
I also thought about wearing a WISH shirt. Maybe I could wear the ToT shirt and my WISH hat. Hmmmm. I could go as a runner. Wow, that's a novel idea. I'll bet no one else thought about that. :rotfl2:

I don't think I'll be going with a costume either (going Thursday night). I thought I would maybe just try to find a Halloween themed shirt at one of the parks or at Old Navy. But who knows, maybe I'll get inspired closer to the date, but I'm normally terrible at coming up with costume ideas....

Wow great minds think alike don't they:lmao: Last time we went I was Raggedy Ann and DH went as a pirate. IT was alot of fun to dress up.
Leana, I might get creative closer to the date also but as of now no costume, unless I can convince Dh to be peter pan but he isn't going for the tights idea....:lmao: I wanted to go as Tink who is my fav character.

Come on guys! Dressing up is half the fun!
When we went in 2005, I had to beg Chad to dress up with me & Zack. He thought there would only be a handful of adults in costume, he'd feel stupid, etc. Once we got there, he had a blast. He was so happy he dressed up! We got alot of compliments on being a pirate family. I remember even calling Chad's sister while waiting for HalloWishes to start - telling her that this was the most fun we've had at WDW & they had to come with us, in costume, some year.
We even had other guests taking pictures of us that night.
They thought we were cast members!:lmao:

We had a ball in 2005 when we dressed up. We might change our minds, will also depend on if we can get away with carry ons and not have to check luggage and if we can decide on some costumes.
Why is time going so slow!!!!!!

Hey all! I haven't posted in forever, but we are still coming to TOT - YEA!!! Bill (wfloyd) and I need to be updated on the front page. We are now staying at OKW on Friday and Saturday nights. We got a 2 bedroom so we could bring a babysitter for the race. We are also hoping to take Billy to MNSSHP on Friday and let Timmy stay with the sitter. Billy is doing well, but needs a special night just for him. ;) Not sure about costumes, yet - I guess I need to get busy with that. :thumbsup2 Now, all I need to do is train for this race... easier said than done... :rolleyes1

It is official, dd16 and I are registered.
We will probably book at Pop, I need to see if I can get a good AAA rate. We have only stayed at Pop, ASMu, and PORFQ. Since it may only be one night, I am not sure it matters. Any thoughts on where it is best to stay? Does it really matter?
Also, will there be transportation to the expo on Sat from all resorts? We don't plan on renting a car.

I thought I'd already updated here, but apparently I haven't. Unfortunately, DH and I will not be able to do the TOT event this year. We will be going to a family wedding in VA that day. I knew my neice was getting married, but we only recently found out that the date is Oct 27. I am soooo disappointed! There is just no way we can be here in FL and at the wedding on the same day, and we really do not want to miss this wedding.
I'm hoping that maybe we will at least be able to meet up with some of you early arrivals, of those staying the week after the TOT event.

Per Robert/ultramm's earlier post on this thread and the ToT 6.5K and 13K website, below are rates and the phone number to call at group sales:
Disney's Boardwalk Resort - $359 a night
Disney's Carribbean Beach Resort - $112 a night
Disney's Pop Century Resort - $79 a night
To reserve a room, please call (407) 938-4868.
When I called, I just told them I was calling about the ToT group rate and reserved at Pop. With tax, I believe it comes out to $88.XX per night. I think people needing park tickets can also obtain them through group sales, but I am not sure of the price or how it compares to other authorized Disney resellers (I don't need the tix as I bought an annual pass for my family vacation as I received a DVC discount, wanted to get the dining experience discount card and figured I'd be back for marathon weekend and hopefully the ToT).

I am going to call this morning & book us at Pop. We are arriving the Monday prior to the race and staying thru the following Monday. There is a really great deal at the Comfort Inn just outside DTD for $39/night. Nothing fancy, but an ok place to stay that's close. But if I stay there, I am going to feel awfully left out of the group with tons of WISHers at Pop!
I am also not sure if you can leave your kiddo(s) at the Disney kids clubs if you are not a WDW resort guest. And we need that to be able to do ToT. Kind of bummin' though since you have to p/u your kid by midnight. I wanted to hang out at MGM until 1am with you guys!
Pat - thanks for the tip about requesting a lake view!
Then once this is settled, I am off to try to find a fridge swap with some availability left that week!
**fingers crossed**
FYI - the group sales phone number does not open until 8:30am.
Update - got my ressie at Pop - $88.88 per night incl. tax. I also have a PM to get in on a fridge swap. Woo Hoo!

I think I single-handedly closed out the 6.5K race.:rolleyes1
After I registered I returned to the main page and it now states the 6.5K is sold out. Talk about squeaking in just in time!
Oh, no! DH was going to make a decision tonight about the 6.5K. Oops. :rolleyes1
Vicki - I think you and the boys will have a great time! Glad you can join us.
I think I've added/amended everything up to here. If not, let me know.
The WISH team will be well represented at this event! :woohoo:

I just registered along with the 3 darling children in my signature.
Glad you made it in time for the 6.5K.
I hope your "3 darling children" aren't too fast. I don't want to be overly shown up by a group of WISH-lets. ;) Right now I've got my pace at about 60% of the required time. Need to keep working to improve that and my distance. I also don't want too many 13K walkers beating me. Luckily, even though its my first race, I am doing it for FUN, to be at WDW, to take advantage of an event with a generous time requirement and, most importantly, to meet some WiSHers, who so far are helping me greatly on this experimental journey.

Bill I can relate. Here is a pic of me locked in finishline combat with one of those nasty little 10 year olds that think it's cool to sip past the old folks at the finishline.:upsidedow

I don't think anyone is really excited about this. All it will be is the coolest race ever. Night, woods, glow in the dark, special effects, crazy fun people, and it's DISNEYWORLD, so what's to get excited about?:wizard:

I am really starting to get excited for this, since it doesn't seem so far off anymore. :woohoo: I am definitely wearing my WISH shirt for the race, but still haven't decided whether to try to talk Howard into any kind of costume for MNSSHP on Friday night. Somehow, I just can't imagine him in a costume, though remind me to tell you sometime about our Halloween party where he showed up in an evening gown and pumps! :lmao:

How long did it take for people who mailed it to get official registration info? I mailed mine back in August and Disney cashed my check, but I haven't received any emails or paperwork saying I'm official.

Hi everyone! After enjoying the Disney 1/2 marathon in January and the Minnie Marathon in May, I thought I'd round out my Disney running for the year with the Tower of Terror race!!
So - I am now officially signed up for the Tower of Terror 13k and I will be staying at Pop Century. My boyfriend will probably be there too... he would have liked to do the 6.5K but it's all filled up (bummer, wish I would have realized this race would be so popular... I've been so busy with work the past few months that I haven't checked into my Disney websites as much as I usually do).
Hopefully this time I'll see some of you there! Yaaaay,
Laura (sunshine girl)
