Hi Everyone! I’m sort of a newbie, but I have been reading everyone’s awesome planning journals and TR on their weddings since January and have found them so fun and helpful. I am really excited to finally be able to share the details of planning my own DFTW! :yay:

DF and I are having a Simply Chic Couture Collection Wedding (designed by David Tutera) on January 3, 2009. I know that the Couture Collection Weddings have not been well received on this board, but I hope that everyone would still like to hear the thoughts behind and process of having one of these weddings (maybe there's someone out there who is also interested in having a Couture wedding!?)

http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/simply-chic-main.jpg

About us: DF and I met through a mutual friend during my freshman year of college at Santa Clara University (DF was a senior at the time- an older man!) and we have been together now for a little over 4 and ½ years, living together for just about 1 and ½ years (although I took a job on the East Coast for a year, so we are doing the whole long distance thing right now), and got engaged 10 months ago in Disneyland!!!!

I knew I wanted a DFTW ever since I was a little girl. On one trip, while we were staying at the Grand Floridian, I was walking around outside the hotel with my family and saw a bride riding in Cinderella’s glass coach. Right then and there I told my daddy that when I grew up I was going to ride in Cinderella’s coach on my wedding day, and he just looked at me, said “Save your money!” and laughed. Needless to say I was determined to prove him wrong!!

Once we were engaged, having a DFTW just fell into place. Both of our families are from different sides of the country, and instead of making one family travel, we decided to make both. We're equal opportunity inconveniencers! DF never had a set place in mind for where he wanted to get married. While we talked about having a wedding at the SCU Mission or somewhere in my home state of Connecticut, as soon as I suggested having our wedding in Disney World, he said he couldn’t imagine us getting married any place else! Either could I!

More to come tonight (I need to get back to work so we can pay for this wedding!)- including details and pics of our DL engagement and the start of our wedding planning (we've been talking with our coordinator since August, so I have a lot to write!)

Preview pic of the entrance to our engagement dinner:

I hope you all will stick around and read more over the next 20 months!! :goodvibes

Thanks everyone! I’m so glad that people want to hear about my experiences! Now for a continuation of my previous post-

The Engagement: My whole family flew from Connecticut to California for my college graduation and we spent some time up in the Bay Area before heading down to Disneyland. This was my parents’ second trip to California… and did they have any interest in going anywhere else in LA? NOPE! Straight to Disneyland we headed! :thumbsup2 On the 3rd day of our trip, DF told me we were going to dinner at night just the two of us at The Napa Rose restaurant at the Grand Californian. Now you have to realize that I’m a planner, especially when it comes to Disney. I like to have where we’re eating mapped out ahead of time to maximize fun park time! Ok, well I’m not as obsessive as it seems, but I was a little upset that we were eating at the Napa Rose when we had planned to eat there with my entire family the next night! After all, we were in Disney, so I thought we should attempt to vary our dining as much as possible! Needless to say, I wasn’t to happy to head to a dinner that I was just going to have again the very next night, but I went anyway. :sad2: DF said that he forgot something up in the room, so he wanted to run up there with me quickly before dinner (I was staying with my parents while he had his own room... still I had to stay with my parents. I'm sure a lot of you know how that goes!) As we stepped out of the main elevator, there was this barrier set up blocking the entrance to a balcony. Something special was going on there for sure!

What I saw as soon as I stepped off the elevator.
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/IMG_04852.jpg

Apparently it was for me! :yay: The DF created a special dinner on the 6th floor balcony overlooking the Grand Californian Hotel, Downtown Disney, and the DL Park. He planned everything ahead of time (apparently weeks in advance!), and we even had our own waitress! I am not a huge fan of champagne (and wine has a tendency to bother my stomach), so he made sure that tea was the drink of choice. I had salmon while DF had a filet. He said that he ordered two entrees that he knew both of us liked so that way I could have my choice when the time came to eat. He also timed it perfectly so that after our meal we would watch the 50th Anniversary Fireworks and had the Grand Californian pipe in the music to the balcony. It was perfect watching the fireworks by candlelight, by ourselves, in the arms of the man I love! At the end of When You Wish Upon A Star, DF got down on one knee and proposed!! Of course I said yes! The 50th Anniversary Fireworks always brought tears to my eyes every time I saw them and heard the music. Now they also remind me of our engagement, so they mean that much more!!:cloud9:

Looking out at Downtown Disney and DL park from the balcony:

http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/img_04723.jpg

The funniest part was that DF planned everything with Disney, down to the timing of the proposal. However, I guess we got stuck with a very sweet, but very SLOW waitress! DF arranged for my ring to be placed in Cinderella’s glass slipper before he proposed right at the end of When You Wish Upon a Star. Well, right before the fireworks started, he kept looking around for something. I couldn’t tell what, but apparently it was for the waitress who was supposed to have the slipper and was no where to be found! Very silly!

With the ring on my finger (and glowing!!!) we sat back down and the waitress brought dessert- strawberry ice cream cake and cheesecake. Yummy, but still no slipper. Then she returned with a plate, but only showed it to DF. She kept saying “Sir, do you like this?” He responded, “Um, yes, very nice.” “Sir, would you like to see the strawberries?” “Yes, they look nice” “Sir, again, would you like to see the strawberries?” “uh… they are nice” “Sir! The slipper!? Is there something you’d like to put in the slipper?” Then we finally got the clue and started laughing! She brought out a plate with chocolate covered strawberries with the Cinderella Slipper all ready for him to propose, but it was a bit too late!! That’s ok though because it will be a really funny moment that we will always remember!:rotfl:

The infamous plate with the Cinderella slipper and strawberries:
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/IMG_04772.jpg

Right after we got engaged:

http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/img_04815.jpg

Once we were finished with dinner and enjoying the view and headed back to DF’s room, our waitress was so sweet and brought us a tray with enough tea for the evening as well as more strawberries and treats for the rest of our evening. Everything was definitely perfect!

The tray of treats brought to DF’s room:

The ring:

http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/IMG_05062.jpg

The next night we did end up going to The Napa Rose and had another delicious dinner, complete with a toast from my parents in honor of DF and I. It was really sweet of them to be so excited and happy for us!

My dessert at The Napa Rose (Disney kept congratulating us everywhere we went! It really made us feel special!):

http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/IMG_07112.jpg

Finally, the next day DF’s family came down to DL to join us. FSIL and her family congratulated us and was sooo happy (she’s one of my bridesmaids), but we thought it was a little weird that DF’s parents never said anything to us. A few friends also met up with us for a day in the park as well and we ended it with a dinner at the Granville Steakhouse (now Steakhouse 55?)

DF and I with our congratulations cake (again, we got a lot of congratulations this trip! If the wedding cakes are any bit as good as that cake was then we’ll be in luck!)

http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/IMG_07243.jpg

The next day was my last day in DL (I had to head back home to CT 1 day before the rest of my family to start a summer teaching job), it also happened to be the same day as the movie premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean II in the DL Park, which was really cool, but DF’s parents STILL had yet to say they were happy for us and I was packing up to head home for weeks apart from DF. I was a bit bummed. :sad1:

On a happy note, we are really excited that we get to sign out contract for our wedding next week, so maybe after we sign out names, put down the deposit, and mail it in, we’ll tell DF’s parents. Still, I’m not sure what to do with them!!!

Well I better head to bed now, but I promise to write more later on our quest for a wedding in the Magic Kingdom and other details we’ve come to find out on the Couture Collection!

Btw, there is actually A LOT still to plan with a Couture Wedding. Basically the only things that are picked out are the table floral arrangements, linens, wall coverings, and lighting. Everything else is still up to us! (from the BM’s flowers to the food and cake and also any other extras we would want!)

Yay! Another Disneyland fan! Sometimes I feel disloyal wanting a WDW wedding when I practically live at Disneyland... Can't wait to hear about all your planning (or do you even have to plan with a Couture wedding? Seems like all the hard choices are made for you!).

Well, Lurkyloo, I must admitt I was loyal to WDW first and foremost, however DL is so convenient now that I can't help but love it! The dinkiness of the castle sometimes gets to me when I compair it to WDW, but then the historian in me comes out and saves the day!!! I'm so glad that you love DL too!!!

MaryWDW, Tiggerific04, cryssi, and mermaidbride1108: I love reading planning boards and TRs too! :surfweb: I always check every night to see who updated what and to hear more... DF thinks I'm crazy. Also, I think it's so much fun! (and then I tell DF about all the ideas I find and he just once again thinks I'm crazy! Especially when I refer to different brides as if I know them personally! hehehe) That's why I'm so excited to share my plans!

TexasCourt: I sent you a PM, but by any chance is your name Courtney? Mine is!!

Princessdisneybelle and DisneyFairy19: Thanks for your posts!! We picked the Simply Chic because we thought it was so classy and pretty- mainly because of all the flowers and candles. When I first started planning (before the Couture Collection came out) I definitely knew I wanted tons and tons of flowers, especially calla lilies, but I immediately fell in love with green orchids when I saw the Simply Chic pictures and how pretty and different they were!
More details on the decor to come!!

What a sweet proposal! And you're right, you'll be able to always look back and laugh about the slipper incident :rotfl:

I am so excited you decided to post a planning journal. I'm really interested in what your experience will be planning a couture wedding. Simply Chic was my absolute favorite collection from David Tutera's designs and am so excited to see what it all looks like throughout the stages of your planning.

What a sweet engagement story . The fact that your waitress was a little slow and missed the entire proposal is pretty funny... looking back on it anyway, I'm sure your DF was not entirely amused at the time.

I am sorry to hear about your FIL's :sad2:. It's horrible that they were able to tarnish such a wonderful time for you and your DF. I am glad that you and your DF are not letting it ruin your decision to plan your dream wedding at WDW.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! and I can't wait to hear more :)

I'm glad that everyone enjoyed our engagement story! It really was perfect, even with the slipper mistake. I'm really excited because we already booked a trip to DL June 21st-25th to celebrate the 1 year of our engagement!! I can't believe it's almost been a year already... time really flew by! I wonder if DF will do something special ;) we will all just have to wait and see!

In any case, I had good intentions to post our planning questions and the answers we've received so far, but I left my planning journal at work! oops!! :upsidedow

The first phone call: So i called up DFTW back in August to tell them I wanted a DFTW and wanted to get info on how to have a ceremony in the park. I actually received a phone call from my coordinator, Kristi Davis, that same day. Kristi is AWESOME! I cannot say enough good things about her! Everytime I talk to her she always has good news for me and always answers my questions. Even when I went for a month without any questions, she still called me once every week and 1/2 just to check in, say hi, see how I was doing, and if I needed anything. She'd definitely on top of everything and I am super impressed!!!! In any case, that day in August she gave me a ring back and we talked about the potential for having a wedding in the MK park. I originally wanted to have it closer to Christmas (12-28-2008), but she told me that there was no way I could have anything in the MK park because it's Disney's busiest time of the year. So we looked further out to January, realized that the first weekend in January could have the same vacation potential, would be cheaper (the hotel prices go from peak to low season rates come Jan. 1st), and then maybe we could do something in the park. She said that at the time they were in negotiations with MK events to lower the price of having an in-the-park wedding because no bride should have to pay $500K to rent out Disney (like it was a convention event!) just for her wedding day, and told me to check back in 6 months or so. 6 Months came and when I logged onto DFTW's website I was sooo excited to see the option for the MK wedding in the park and it was $25K!!! (still a lot, but soooo much better than the $500K!) and it was then that I also discovered the Couture Collection. I was on the phone the next hour leaving a message for Kristi to call me back so I could get more info on both new options!

Now that I think about it... I made my first phone call to DFTW when my wedding was 29 months away... now it's only 20 months... which still seams far, but really it's not!! AHHH!!!! If I'm panicing now, I can only imagine what I will be like when it's only 1 month away!

If only I brought home my planning journal tonight, I could share with you all the info I received from Kristi that made it clear that the Couture Collection was the one for me!

Sorry this post wasn't too interesting/informational! I'm hoping that this weekend DF and I will have our contract in our hand (Kristi said she is going to try to get it to me by Friday) and also answers to a bunch of my questions that DFTW asked David Tutera himself for me!!!! Plus, once I remember to bring my journal home, I will have more to say for sure!! :yay:

jasonandlisa- I’ll definitely have a lot to share. I hope you will be patient with me because my wedding is so far away and I will probably just get more info here and there for the time being and have more to say as we get closer to the date itself!! Please stay tuned!popcorn::

Princessdisneybell- For the Couture Collection, you can choose to have a Wishes ceremony or a Couture one (you just can’t have a Couture ceremony and a Wishes reception- that was a question I asked the first time around!) I choose to have the Couture Ceremony because I wanted the décor to flow nicely. Once I decided on the Simply Chic styled reception, it was hard for me to pass up that look for the ceremony as well. It’s in the Wedding Pavillion, which I’m really happy about. If I couldn’t have the ceremony in the MK park, then it was definitely going to be there (I think it is sooooo pretty even though I’ve really only seen it from pictures on here and from the monorail!) The Simply Chic Couture ceremony was described by Kristi Davis as being all white with a few touches of celadon and chartreuse here and there. I have not actually seen pictures, and, in fact, David Tutera has yet to finish the designs for the ceremonies, but I’ll let you know as soon as I hear something. I’m supposed to be getting an initial “description” of the ceremony idea in the next few days, so be sure to type it up and share it with you! There is also the option to have the ceremony in a ballroom at the Contemporary. That’s a bit too much Contemporary for me. I rather break up the day a bit. I went on David’s actual website and saw a few pictures of a ballroom turned into a chapel and it was really pretty… actually quite stunning! Still, not the same intimacy and romantic feel as the WP (in my opinion), and since I was having such an elaborate reception, I did not want the ceremony to out-shine it, but instead just be a preview of what is yet to come

If you go to David Tutera’s homepage: http://www.davidtutera.com/tuteramain.html
Then click on “photo gallery” followed by “Contemporary” listed under the Wedding Heading, then you can see the pictures of what I imagine the ceremony option in the Contemporary ballroom will resemble. He also has some great photos of the Disney Dream Wedding. I cannot wait to see what the actual Couture collection ceremony inside the WP will look like!

Lurkyloo- Here’s your answer as to why I decided not to have the MK ceremony:

First “Real Question Call” with Kristi Davis: In the beginning of March, I called Kristi so I could ask her a bunch of questions about the MK Ceremony option and the Couture Collection. I was sooo excited about the MK Ceremony, especially because on the website it described the Wishes Collection as the way you can customize your wedding day so if you want you can “get married in front of Cinderella’s castle by candlelight.” Well that sounded perfect to me, but the description of the MK ceremony only said the morning. So I asked if we could do a nighttime wedding. I was definitely bummed to find out that the MK wedding starts before/at 8am! This was the only option. Now I’m not a morning person, and as much as I LOVE Disney, I don’t know if I could get up at 3am to start getting ready… even on my wedding day! (When I look at pictures of myself at character breakfasts I always chuckle because my eyes are so puffy with the first few characters and start to look normal by the end of the meal. Nonetheless, I did not want that problem on my wedding day!!) Then I started thinking about my wedding party getting up that early too and I was afraid that everyone would be cranky by the end of the day after being up for so long! On top of that, I always dreamed of a very dressy, “black-tie” wedding at night with a really nice and fancy dinner. My mom and I would crack up as we pictured people eating filet or lobster and the “chipper chicken” with wedding cake (made out of pancakes perhaps?) and fancy alcoholic drinks at 10am in black (or navy blue “Armani”) “tuxhados”! (Pronunciations from Father of the Bride, one of my fav movies (especially since I’m getting married). My mom and I go on and on about chipper chicken and vhail all the time!:rotfl2: ) Plus, Kristi told me that regular park guests are not actually in the park at the start of your ceremony, but they will come in by the end (on the mornings that MK opens at 9am, but they always start letting people in at like 8:30ish, but barrier off the different lands until 9am). To me that was like having way too many uninvited wedding guests because you know that they will ALL come running towards your wedding to check it out (because, honestly, I know I would if I was there and saw a wedding going on!) Then I asked her about Cinderella’s Coach (which has been my dream since I was little), but they only let you use the horse drawn carriage. That wouldn’t work either. :sad2: The kicker was the maximum number of people allowed. Kristi said only 52, including the bride and the groom. I realize that both DF’s family and my family will be traveling for our wedding so we would not have as many as we would have back home, but we expect to have a decent size crowd (especially since DF’s mom is #13 of 13 brothers and sisters!!). Our wedding party alone is approx. 30 people when you count their significant others as well (I had to figure that out since we are having an Illuminations rehearsal dinner and dessert party the night before the wedding with only the people in our wedding party (and their gf/bf/spouses). That only left DF and I to invite 10 more people each! :headache: It just wasn’t going to work at all. So we had to think about sacrificing friends and family for Cinderella’s castle or picking a different location/type. We chose the different location/type instead, and I justified my decision because the main reason I wanted that ceremony was for the pictures with the castle in the background and the magic and glamour of having it by the castle, but I can also have that with the MK Photo Package and all will be well (Plus I’m fairly certain that the Couture part fulfills my glamour fantasy!)

Kristi also gave me some pricing info on the Couture Collection during this call (it was not posted on DFTW’s website at the time). She said the reception was at the Contemporary and had a $45,000 décor add on and a $250/per person food package. She didn’t tell me how many people that was for (come to find out it’s only for 50 and the décor price increases when you add more). At the time, it fit within my budget (the price for 50 people that is) and so I began to fall in love with the photos and video of the décor online… I started thinking of the green orchids and white calla lilies and knew that it was something that if I passed on the opportunity to have I would regret it…

Unfortunately, once I found out that the décor price increases (25% I believe) for every 50 people you add (DF and I set the max at 100) I was a bit worried because I already fell in love with this style of wedding, it was hard for me to imagine not having it because it no longer fit well within our budget. DF and I talked it over and decided just to save our $$ a bit more, pray he gets a few larger bonuses here and there, and go for it because we want to make it a once in a lifetime experience for ourselves as well as our guests.

At this point I think we need to adopt Houie, Douie, and Louie so we can become close kin to Uncle Scrooge McDuck and inherit his $$!

1/2/2009: Rehearsal Dinner Backup, 7-9:30pm at Epcot (TBD I imagine??) for 30 people

aww yay!!!! A layer of my cake will be dedicated as "Hayley's Early Birthday Cake"!! :goodvibes

We are thinking we'll have our "planning session" sometime in July 2008. So we have a while to wait. We will be going down to have our site visit the first weekend in Sept and I'm really excited about that! I've seen the Contemporary before, but not the WP or the actually Contemporary Convention Center. The best part about getting the contract is just knowing that the date is secured!!

That's great that you got the date you wanted! :teeth:

I bet you can't wait for the site visit! I really want to see the Wedding Pavillion too :) I think on our down day we'll visit the Grand Floridian just to have a nosy and I'll try and persuade DBF to walk over to the WP. Until recently I never knew it was on a little island - I don't know why I thought there was a little bridge over to it! But it makes it a lot more beautiful IMO :)

I saw someone's wedding TR where the bride had a room in the GF the night before overlooking the WP, and it was really nice as when she woke in the morning she could look out the window and think 'i'm getting married there today!'

Hi Everyone!

I’m sorry it’s been so long since I have updated my planning journal, but when you’re planning an event that is still over 19 months away, things kind of move rather slowly!!!!

In any case, I thought I would bring you all up to date with where I am right now.

Back in March, I had another Q&A session with Kristi Davis my site coordinator and she answered more of my questions. The first was what is included in the package… she said the cocktail hour, bar, DJ, food (that is customized with the Contemporary Chef team), wedding cake, and decorations (The Couture Collection Website has since been updated to list out what is included… and it’s surprisingly a lot!) I’m especially glad that the DJ, bar, and the cake are all included. That saves some $$! :yay:

Another question I had was how to get a hold of some marketing materials for the Couture Collection. While the photos and video on the DFTW’s website are nice, I wanted pictures I could look at in person and any other marketing material they could send me. Another reason I wanted this was because my Grandma still uses dial-up for her internet and it would take her FOREVER and a day to look at the DFTW website on her computer! Kristi was sooo helpful and able to send me pictures of the décor as well as an info packet with descriptions of the collection, ceremony, and reception! Granted, the info is not in an official DFTW marketing book or anything, but just having them in our possession to share with friends and family has been so great! :thumbsup2

For anyone that is interested, I’d like to share with you the descriptions of the ceremony and reception, as well as the sample food menus that I received...

From description #1:
Simply Chic

Clean…sleek…and modern…are the perfect words to describe this stylish wedding design. This wedding will take your breath away with its unique design elements. On the outside, you will be surrounded by the magic of Disney, but this Couture Wedding Collection by David Tutera will allow you and your guests to feel as if you have stepped into a swanky hot spot in a metropolitan city.

The ceremony will be designed with crisp lines. Tall Lucite towers filled with rose petals displaying floating pillar candles will line the aisle leading to the ceremony. The ends of the pews will be dressed with chic white fabricated pew caps that will add to the understated elegance of this wedding collection. Flowers will be primarily white with touches of soft celadon green and hints of chartreuse green.

When guests enter into this wedding they will immediately be transformed into another space. Walls of white pleated fabric will dress the entire ballroom. A fashion forward material of white piatte discs will be used as the overlay table cloths with matching chair backs. This is a more sexy and tailored design. All Lucite and glass containers will be used to display the flowers. The floral arrangements will be created as pieces of art rather than traditional flower centerpieces. Lucite runners will be filled with water, floating candles and floating flowers heads. Tall Lucite towers will display one of kind floral creations. Round glass bowls will be filled with spiraling white calla lilies and more are just hints of what will be designed on the guest’s tables. The combination of long dining tables with round tables will add to this modern wedding collection.

Suspended over head will be an abundance of white lanterns, and sleek candelabras will make the room feel more intimate. Oversized large mirrors with illuminated pedestals will be placed around the room adding depth and reflection. This hip yet chic wedding collection design will surely create a “Wow!” factor and will create everlasting memories for all those that attend.

From description #2:
Disney’s Couture Wedding Collection by David Tutera: Simply Chic

This wedding collection is all about sleek modern lines combined with the soft elements of flowers and fabrics to make this design truly one of a kind. I designed this wedding collection to be about being chic, looking chic, and feeling chic. That is why Simply Chic will be perfect for your Big Day!

Imagine walking into you wedding and seeing sleek Lucite, glass, and Asian inspired lanterns throughout. These are just some of the elements that help create this striking collection. I created a look that allows the room’s lighting to change color throughout the progression of the party. The surprise of frequently changing color brings your guests into the wedding design, therefore, becoming interactive participants and not the expected passive guests.

The entire room will be draped from ceiling to floor with a simple white pleated fabric allowing the room to have a clean canvas throughout. The tables will be a combination of round guest tables and long rectangular tables. This is a fantastic way to create a more artistic and eclectic look to the overall space. All the tables will be dressed with floor length white table cloths. The tables will then be topped with a white piatte overlay that is very fashion forward. The white ballroom chairs will be graced with fitted white piatte full length chair backs adding a wonderful detailed look to the table details. White cushions will add the finishing touch.

The designs on the tables will be never before seen creations. Long custom Lucite runners filled with water, floating candles and floating flower heads will be seen in the center of the long rectangular tables. Exploding from the runners will be glass cylinders also filled with water and floating candles and displaying stunning floral pieces of art. Tall Lucite towers will be placed in the centers of the round tables allowing for a unique architectural floral creation of white and soft green to be displayed on top. Numerous candles and flowers will accent the base of the Lucite tower. Guests will truly appreciate this floral art displayed throughout your wedding.

Place settings to me are the final splash of paint on your canvas when planning your wedding. Each guest’s place setting will be as sleek as the room design. Streamlined glassware and flatware as well as lustrous white china will complete the look. The folds of the napkins will even be tailored to match the overall look of Simply Chic.

Large mirrors positioned around the ballroom will reflect the shimmering surfaces of glass and Lucite throughout the room. This will also allow the space to have a larger look. Displayed on the surface of each mirror will be an abundance of votive candles that truly look as if they are floating. Positioned to the sides of each mirror will be illuminated pedestals of frosted white glass and brushed silver, displaying large silver candelabras.

To add a final nod towards uniqueness and style an abundance of white lanterns will be suspended throughout the ceiling to create a more intimate look for your wedding celebration. The lanterns of various sizes will look like bubbles floating throughout the air over the heads of all your guests. Now remember the room has been created in primarily all white, so I can make your wedding come alive in lighting of any color. Is pink your favorite color? Or maybe red is your favorite color. Well it doesn’t matter because I can change the look and mood of your décor in a split second. Guests can enter your wedding celebration to an ethereal look of all white and then thirty minutes later the room can be pink, and yes thirty minutes later again your room can be a sexy red. The lighting colors are limitless.

Your guests will certainly feel as if they have experienced a one of a kind wedding celebration. The Disney team and I will turn your Fantasy Wedding into a reality with my Simply Chic collection.

Here are some of the pictures that Kristi sent to me. They aren’t the best quality because we don’t have a scanner at home, so I just took pictures of the pictures... eh, I tried! :rolleyes1

This is a picture of the original design of the collection:
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/picture1372.jpg

A great picture of one of the many “artistic” centerpieces as well as table settings:
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/picture1392.jpg

More floral art (I never thought of them as art before, but giving them a dual purpose makes me feel not as badly about using so many flowers!!)
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/picture1412.jpg

http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/picture1422.jpg

One of the long rectangular tables with the Lucite runner with tall glass towers:

Example photo of the bar (I think anyway?):
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/picture1442.jpg

Another view of the place settings… and oh look! It’s me and Eric… except that bride has brown hair (not blonde) and he definitely doesn’t have any Indian heritage!
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/picture1462.jpg

More table art. I like this one because you can see the lanterns too. I think it’s pretty cool that those flowers look like they are floating:
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/picture1482.jpg

Another view… I love the table settings with the orchids. I can’t wait to find out if that’s extra or on every place setting, and if so, if we can maybe add some deep orange orchids too to compliment our other color:
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/picture1492.jpg

More floral décor:
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/picture1512.jpg

Another view of the place settings on the tables:
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/picture1522.jpg

mmm…. Food!!!!!! You can even see the beef on a fork (I’ll post the sample menu they gave in a little while)
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/picture1532.jpg

You can see the reflection of the room in this photo of one of the mirrors:
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/picture1542.jpg

After staring at this photo for a while, I finally figured out that it is supposed to be a sample of a bride’s bouquet and groom’s boutonnière! I think they look soooo pretty! I’m thinking I’ll incorporate more orange into my bouquet to compliment our accent color more, but I still think the photo is a great:
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/picture1552.jpg

This is my favorite picture because it shows how the entire collection just sparkles all over!!!!

An overview of the entire room:

Well I hope you enjoyed this little update! I can't tell you how excited I was to learn that the lighting will change color throughout the entire event! Very cool!! When I have more time later tonight I will also post the sample menus they sent me (once I get a fancy French dictionary to figure out what each dish is! :rotfl: ) and also post a few other ideas DF and I have.

Hope you will stay tuned!! popcorn::

LOL :rotfl2: marywdw- I cannot help but agree! I've seen the convention center at the contemporary before and it sort of looks... stuck in the 80's? DF hasn't seen it (I think the only part of the Contemporary he saw was Chef Mickey's), so I hope he's not discouraged when we have out site visit. Who would've guessed that the place really does "clean up good" ;)

cant wait to hear more!

aww thanks! I'm glad people are excited to hear about it!!

sunsh1ne- I think you can probably upgrade?? Course I have no clue, but I figure with Disney anything is possible! You can see the pricing info on the DFTW Couture Collection site. How many people are you thinking of having? I know for 50 guests the price is basically $45,000 for the reception decor (includes venue, flowers, tables, place setting details, DJ, draping the room, lighting, linens, and any other decorations) and the food and beverage min. is $250/person, but the cake and the bar is included. What is also pretty cool is that they will custom design the menu for your tastes. I was told by my site coordinator to pay attention to the Food Network Fantasy Wedding show because the chef and team who did the Dream Team Wedding will also be doing mine (and the food looked amazing!!!)

The only downfall of the collection is that it's really expensive... this is why DF and I need 2 years to pay for it. At the same time, we already have a home, furniture, etc, so we don't have to worry about the little things at the start of a marriage that most couples need to watch their pockets for, so we can splurge a little.

I'm having around 100 guests at my wedding, so feel free to PM me if you want some more specific budget estimates for larger groups or anything!!!

Id love to come to!!

hehe Maggie! I'd love for you and Shane to come (DF and Shane can talk cars all night long!) Who knows... maybe you'll get your chance! We have yet to tell DF's parents (although some of the extended family already know), so we'll see how well they handle the news of a Disney Wedding. If they blow their lid, then I'll just have to invite my extended DISboards family instead!

So pretty and elegant! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks AuroraBorealis! I hope you'll keep reading over the next few months!

As promised, here is the sample Cocktail Hour and Dinner Menu I received. I was also told that these are just examples and not set at all (in fact, Kristi said that DF and I can work with the chef team to create whatever menu we'd like. She said they are especially great with tying in ethnic foods with modern flare. The great example of this is the menu from Bride's Magazine/ Disney's Dream Team Wedding. (From what I understand, even though Tyler Florance decided the names of each dish on the menu, he didn't send recipes, so it was up to the Contemporary Chef team to actually create the dishes themselves!)

Just as a warning, I'll give you my opinion on the foods or my reactions to them, but I must admit that even though it sounds very different, it also sounds SUPER yummy!!

Cocktail Hour Samples:
-Mini shrimp martinis (I'm thinking mini cocktail shrimp?)
-Lobster cocktail
-mini mint poulet rouge mojitos (I think chicken dressed with some sort of fancy sauce in a mojito style glass (I think the mint is probably layered or at the bottom or something! For about 2 weeks I honestly thought this was a drink until I googled "Poulet Rouge" and found out it meant chicken! I guess it's true that you can take the girl out of the honky tonk, but you can't take the honky tonk out of the girl!!))
-Long stem strawberry stuffed with goat cheese (I'll admit I thought this was weird at first, but they served it at the Disney Dream wedding and it ended up looking REALLY good! Part of the new trend to do sweet and savory.)
-USDA Prime Beef Tenderloin Fork (also seen at the Disney Dream wedding and in the food picture a few posts ago. This description got a great laugh from my family. Steak on a giant fork. Who would've guessed!)
-Lychee Nut stuffed with Prosciutto and Asiago (different, but it could work!)
-Truffle Cracker with Asiago foam (I'm guessing this isn't the case, but after my mom and I saw "Asiago foam" we looked at each other and both said "foam? like EZ Cheese in a can?!")

Simply Chic Dinner Sample:
First Course
-Wasabi seared scallop encrusted in lemon grass and black sesame seeds served over a nitshiki rice cake with orange tobiko roe
-tat soi greens with Japanese Chrysanthemum and a Plum Wine and Soy Vinaigrette
-asian cucumber essence with rice wine vinegar and dark sesame oil in a won ton cup

Second Course
-Cantaloupe Ginger Sorbet with sake toast (i'm guessing a drink toast, but it could quite possibly be sake flavored bread from a toaster? I'm honestly not sure!)

Third Course
-Tsao style prime beef filet with sweet thai chili butter braised grouper with daikon radish pureed potatoes and petite asian style vegetables
-fresh baked lavosh, prawn chips (????), rice paper and won ton chips served with whipped flavored butters to include: garlic and herb, wasabi and soy, and candied ginger and sake

Fourth Course
-Friandise Selection (I think are little cakes/sweets?)
-banana caramel custard accented with ginger
-coffee and decaffeinated coffe and a selection of teas

I think both menus sound really different, but still really good!! The funniest part is that it almost seems taylored for me! I've always been a huge fan of ginger... my favorite ice cream is ginger (I've only found it at this one shop in Cape Cod) and I wear Origin's Ginger perfume as my scent in Fall and Winter (I think I've been wearing it for like 6-7 years now??) When my family thinks of ginger they immediately think of me, so we were all very excited to see the sorbet and dessert containing ginger. It's so me!!!

For our menu, we probably won't have such a huge Asian/Japanese influence (but we might! Who knows! We love all sorts of food!) DF and I might ask for a bit of an Indian influence (to bring in some of DF's culture. Although to be honest, I make a better Indian than he does! :rotfl: especially after studying India for 4 years in college, but he knows barely anything about his people! Let's just say his friends have been known to joke with DF and say he's "white trash" since next to his family's huge house is an old, rusted, beat-up 1965 Mustang just waiting to be worked on), but at the same time I'd want to bring in some of my heritage too, but I think people might think it's weird to start with mini weinerschnitzles and kraut for the cocktail hour, borscht and perogies as the first course soup and appetizer, and dahl, curried chicken, and naan/roti for dinner. That just sounds like a war in the tummy for sure! We have plenty of time to try to come up with some decent ideas (and I'm sure the Contemporary Chefs will have a bunch!)

My only requests as of right now will be Mickey's Holiday Blend Coffee and the regular Disney coffee to be served at the end of the night along with chai. Mickey's Holiday Blend is my mom's favorite kind (I also like it a lot too!) and I love how no matter where you get a cup of coffee in Disney, it magically tastes perfect and the same every time. I want that to be served as well for sure! I'd also like to request that the tea choice also include Chai. I love Indian tea myself, and I'm sure that DF's family (and perhaps some of my guests too) will appreciate the thoughtfulness behind the offering of chai. I wonder if Mickey's Holiday Blend Coffee or Chai have been special wedding menu requests before!!

I wanna know if they have someone in the bakery/kitchen who sole job is to think of fancy names for food:rotfl:

instead of shrimp cocktail its a shrimp martini or its really beef on a fork hahaha

I have to admit I'm a big fan of fancy desserts even though most of them are dough and cream, calling them something fancy makes them even more delicious!

I wanted to actually post that the decor pics look absolutely stunning!

Please keep us in the loop with the wedding planning - its the first couture I think we have all heard about!

That menu made me hungry! Yummy! It sounds amazing and it is neat that you can really customize it. I love Chai so I can totally understand wanting it at your reception. It will be a nice touch for your DF's family. Plus, it's just plain delicious! I'm sure the Contemporary kitchen will have no problem producing it.

I'm really looking forward to reading all about your planning and couture wedding!

I've loved reading your planning journal so far. The simply chic is gorgeous and I just love calla lilies. This is going to be a spectacular wedding! The menu is wild, the names must have taken someone forever to come up with.

Thanks, Hayley!!! That's so sweet! I love how you called it posh... hehehe not used to hearing that in America! Sooo cute!

I love Indian food too... I actually never had it before DF (Eric) and I met. The funniest part is that Eric's parents would make Indian food every night for themselves and make Eric "American" food because he refused to eat Indian food from age 13-college! I think he was crazy! He missed out on sooo many good meals!!!

We'll see how well we are able to incorporate my "mutt" heritage into our wedding, but I'm hoping somehow it will be there. We are actually thinking that maybe for our readings we'd make a collection- one from Shakespeare/literary piece, one from the Bible, another from a poet (maybe even my Grandma because she writes poetry as a hobby and it would mean a lot to me), then another in Russian, one in Hindi (from a sanskrit poem or bhagavad gita or something), and then one from the Qu'ran. It might end up being too many readings, but we'll see!!

Thanks for your kind words!!!

I can't wait to also find out what the Contemporary kitchen can come up with! I'm really excited for the tasting session, but that's not until July 2008!!! I don't know if I can last that long, ya know?!? In the mean time I guess I can't just keep trying to plan it out in my own mind. I keep drooling everytime I read all the different cake flavors and options. I honestly don't know how I will be able to choose!

Thanks so much for reading... and I hope you continue to! I actually didn't know calla lilies very well until a friend of mine got married in Sept. 2 years ago and had them as her bouquet and her BM's bouquets and I thought they looked so elegant and simple. It was very pretty!

I still can't help but laugh at some of the names on the menu... I really would love to mean the person who has the job of looking up all those fancy big words! Perhaps when I have the menus designed I'll have a "translation" underneath. After all, I have farmer in my blood, so hopefully my family won't get too lost! (My mom already threatened to have my dad show up in his rubber, yellow cow pasture boots and flannel shirt!)

Are the rooms on the 14th floor called anything special (suites or something)? Do you know if you're able to request staying on that floor? DF and I are thinking we'll probably stay at the Grand Floridian for most of our "Disneymoon", but I thought it might be fun to stay at the Contemporary a few nights before the wedding, especially since we will probably end up being there for like 10-14 days! I'd love to have a great view with a view of the MK!! Thanks for your help!

It's so interesting to read about your plans for your couture wedding. When I was at my planning session last week our florist, Laura, was telling us about some of the couture styles. She said that the wedding staff was having a big meeting that Friday since they were in the process of planning their first wedding (other than the fantasy wedding) that is booked for the beginning of 2008. It was interesting to hear her talk about the process they went through setting everything up with David Tutera to get the collection together for DFTW.

The 14th floor at the Contemporary is called the tower club. There are 16 suites and 5 regular rooms with excellent concierge service. The balconies are HUGE! You do have to book tower club and can choose MK or Bay view. The 12 floor now has the same concierge service and that floor is called the atrium club. We've never tried the atrium club but have heard great reviews since it went full concierge and all the rooms are regular size so it's easier to get a reservation.

I will definitely keep everyone posted! In the next coming weeks I should have photographer info, info on our Illuminations rehearsal dinner and dessert, and a TR from our engagement anniversary trip to DL!

I hope that your DD will also want a DFTW! I can't imagine anything more romantic, but I might be a little biased! ;)

Thank you so much for clearing that up. :)

No problem! :)

Thanks, D&R love Disney! DF and I will definitely have to look into it! From what I remember as a kid, The Contemporary has awesome views of fireworks and water parade at night. It sounds like staying in the tower club would be really romantic!!

You cannot beat the view of the fireworks from the MK view rooms. We had friends over one night to watch the show and we could hear the music that the concierge lounge pipes to their balcony and it was fantastic, the shots we got were great!

I think I'd stay at the CR before the wedding (we did) and then move over to the Grand like you were thinking of for your honeymoon.

Anyone who was reading my thread on Outside Photography Help is probably familiar with this, but I thought I'd share it again...

So Eric and I have more or less been set on using Disney Photographic Services for our wedding (along with Disney Videography.) However, I decided to check out the website of the photographers of the Disney Dream Wedding (Maring Lifestyle Photographers) that happened on Valentine's Day in the MK park to see some samples of their work. After DF and I saw how awesome each shot was and how much love and expression they showed in each perfect photo, we inquired about having our engagement photos done by them (especially since they are so conveniently located to me- NYC and CT (I live in CT)). Of course, when I called I didn't know where exactly in CT their studio was located. I only assumed that it would be the "gold coast" of CT down by Greenwich or Westport or something. Boy was I in for a surprise!

They are actually located in my hometown!!! How cool is that?! :thumbsup2 I guess they split their time between their NYC studio and small-town Connecticut studio. In any case, a few weeks ago, I set up an appointment for my mom, sister (MOH), and myself to meet with them and talk about the different options (particularly the engagement photos), but I have been falling in love with their style and Eric and I are thinking we want to use them for all our wedding photos (and they are more than willing to travel too- in fact they flew down to FL to shoot a DFTW last week!)

I almost feel like it was a sign that they just so happened to be located right down the street from me. I mean they exclusively photographed Donald Trump's wedding and Star Jones' wedding, but they live in and have one of their two studios located in my sleepy home town!!! Who would've guessed!?! Plus, they photograph a ton of David Tutera's weddings, parties, and his books... and I'm having one of his weddings! It just almost feels like it is meant to be... but I also feel as though I'm cheating on Mickey. :rolleyes1 Oh what to do!!!

Both Jennifer and Charles Maring have been so nice and have responded very timely to any questions I've had so far with email! They told me that they are very excited to share some David Tutera wedding shots with me as well as pictures from other Disney Weddings when we meet tomorrow. I'm excited too!

I can't wait to find out the costs (we'll see if we can even afford to have them as our photographers!!!) and the different packages they have available. Most of all, I just want to see their sample work... I also hope to get details of what they expect us to pay for when photographing a destination wedding.

During this whole decision process, I had a bunch of questions for Kristi Davis about the pros and cons of using an outside photographer. I'd like to share with you what she said:

---

"Dear Courtney,

Thanks so much for the note. It is great to hear from you. I am so excited that you have found Maring Lifestyle Photographers. As you mentioned below, they have worked with us before to shoot the Dream Wedding. They were excellent in all aspects of the event. We would welcome them for your event and there would not be any outside charges for them to photograph your event. I think it is amazing that they are located in your hometown! I am with you, I would also think it was meant to be. Just to make sure I covered all of your questions, I copied them below and responded to them individually.

I hope you have a wonderful evening and I look forward to talking to you soon.

Warmest regards,

Kristi
-Do brides who use outside photographers get treated any differently than brides who use Disney Photography Services (basically, is it frowned upon to use an outside vendor for photography?) We do not frown upon using an outside photographer but we have had situations in the past where outside photographers did not handle themselves well and that can cause difficulty. This is not the case with the Marings.
-If I use an outside photographer, can I still have my pre-ceremony pictures taken at the Grand Floridian (I will be getting ready there), or if another bride is at the Grand Floridian at the same time and she is using Disney Photography Services, will she have the "right of way" and I'll have to hide or not take pictures there? You will certainly be able to take your photos at the Grand Floridian, your wedding planner will coordinate the timing with your photographer. We just need to make sure that you arrive after the early wedding has cleared the lobby area. If there is a wedding scheduled prior to yours it will start at 2:30pm, so you would be fine anytime after that.
-Since the Marings have shot in the parks before, can any exceptions be made for them again (I thought it couldn't hurt to ask!)? They would certainly be able to shoot your Dessert Party, but unfortunately any planned photo shoots like you mention below (Magic Kingdom and Epcot) would need to be shot by our photography team. These are shot when the parks are closed and only Disney Cast Members have access to enter the parks at that time. She would not be able to shoot those events.
-Can I still have the Magic Kingdom photo shoot? Yes, but it must be through WDW photography.
-What about doing a bridal photo shoot in EPCOT (I was originally looking at the 10 hour package Disney offers)? Same as above.
-I know there is an escort fee required if the outside photographers are not well known by Disney... How well known are the Marings? We are completely comfortable with them. An escort fee will not be required.
-Are there any other downfalls or problems with having an outside photographer that Eric and I should be aware of, particularly when having a Couture Collection wedding? The only thing that would impact you is the fact that they couldn't shoot your other photo sessions. "

---

Overall, I think Kristi gave a very fair response. I'm so glad that it really doesn't matter what photographer we use. We'll see how tomorrow goes!!! Wish me luck!! :goodvibes

Courtney - I was going to tell you - many people use outside photographers at WDW weddings as you may have noticed a lot of us have used Randy Chapman including me. Now there can be a charge because they need an escort, but I think that since Randy does so many - I do not think that I was charged because he did not have an escort. So it is not a problem and dont feel like you are cheating on mickey - I had a problem with disney photography because when I asked to see samples they sent me to a site but I really wanted to see more and my pictures were really important to me so I wanted something I felt confident with and had reccomendations!

Thanks for sharing all of this! Carol is awesome she was my EM !

Your weddding sounds like it's going to be awesome. All of the Couture styles are gorgeous but well over my budget that's for sure.

Hi LoveStitch!

Thanks for reading!! The Disney Dream wedding was a contest put on with DFTW and Brides Magazine. The winning couple had a dream $100K wedding in the Magic Kingdom... you can go here to see more info on it: http://www.brides.com/weddingstyle/realweddings/144099?offset=3&af=Theme%3ADestination+Weddings

Food Network also featured the wedding as one of three "Fantasy Weddings" in a special that aired the in beginning of May. It looks like the last one aired on May 6th. I'm sure they will air it again over the summer. I'll keep my eye open for it! The link to the show's description is here: http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/show_sp/episode/0,,FOOD_9994_50283,00.html

The reason my coordinator suggested I watch the show is because the same chef and team will be working on my food and the Disney Dream Wedding was planned by David Tutera as well. It also helps that the Dream wedding used similar orange shades like I would like to use!

Thanks Allison!!! I was so relieved to hear how welcomed some (key word!) outside photographers are. I'm also glad to hear that the Marings (and Randy) do not require escots. It's nice to know that Disney respects them that much, ya know?

Like I said before, Eric and I are THRILLED we have the same planner that you had! Judging by your wedding, she does great work!!!

Hi Gina Loves Disney! Thanks so much for reading my planning journal!!! Maring Lifestyle Photographers are in fact in Wallingford. How funny! They are right on Center Street... I didn't even know they were there and I lived in Wally-World my entire life!

Hi Everyone,

I'm sorry it has taken me a week to update you on our photography session... I've had a very busy last week! For Memorial Day weekend I flew and Eric drove down to meet up with some friends in San Diego. I've never been, but we had a BLAST!!! The new pic in my signature is the two of us at Sea World's beer tasting area sponsored by Anheuser-Busch. It was sooo nice to see Eric (it had been a little over a month) and especially to see our friends (I hadn't seen them since February!) We had so much fun that we're looking into planning another trip in August! I think my favorite part was the beach (despite the 50 billion skinny, beautiful, tan girls in bikinis that were running around... that made me feel badly about myself, but not bad enough to not enjoy some fantasticly unhealthy but insanely good tacos at Taco Surf!!) Here are some pictures from our trip:

Beer tasting in Sea World (Eric, me, Michelle (Scott's girlfriend), and Joe):

On the left is Joe (one of our groomsmen) and on the right is Scott (Eric's best man, who is not normally as hairy!!! Thank goodness!!! hehehe- just get him some aviator sunglasses and he'll be perfect for the '70's!):

Eric and I checking out the clydesdale horses:

Joe and Eric (with Joe's sexy truck!!! I LOVE that machine!!)... notice the grill strapped to the back. This is what I get for hanging out with nerdy engineers. Their idea of a beach bbq was literally bringing the grill into the sand next to our blankets and chairs! I should've expected nothing less:

Joe, Michelle, me, and Eric outside Taco Surf in Pacific Beach... AWESOME tacos (especially the potato!):

----------

In any case, last Thursday evening my mom, little sister (MOH), and I went to visit Maring Lifestyle Photographers in their Connecticut office. It was AWESOME!!!!! The session itself lasted almost 2 hours and was with Jennifer Manning (one of the 2 head photographers- they are a husband/wife team.) She did a great job explaining their style, which is PhotoExpressionism- photographs that tell stories that go beyond a mere record of history. Ones where the viewer can feel the emotion while viewing each photo. She showed us different wedding albums, including the albums of the ceremony and reception of the Disney Dream wedding that took place in the MK (BEAUTIFUL BTW!!!!!) and also other example photos and albums from previous brides. My favorite part was the photos they made into art. All their pictures are digital, which allows them to be edited and enhanced later on (for example colors and shading enhanced as well as shadowing to help get rid of blemishes or double chins in pictures- exactly what I will need!!) Jennifer was so nice and told me all about how her and David Tutera are such good friends (they even do a TV show together!) and that if Eric and I went to their NYC office she'd introduce us to David himself, which I thought was AWESOME!!! What I liked most about the Marings is that they realize the importance of both artistic/journalistic photos as well as posed group/family ones. That balance was exactly what I was thinking of.

Now the only hard part is the price... Eric and I have not said yes or no just yet, but we are more or less determined to make it work! I actually came home a bit discouraged after realizing they were a few thousand higher than our original budget (but their quote includes engagement shots, consultation, full day coverage, post event consultation, unlimited photographs, full set of previews bound in a book, internet proofing, album design consultation, expert planning for the day, and of course the wedding album as well as any other extras they can add in here and there.) We do in fact have a budget and really cannot afford to go over it because our wedding is costing soooo much. I was really bummed...

God must really be on our side for this... and again I'm taking this as a sign that it is all meant to be, but ironically (and out of no where!!) Eric got rather large pay raise at work (which he had wanted for the last 3 years.) So.... it looks like now we might be able to afford the Marings afterall! I will keep my fingers crossed! In the mean time, I'm going to schedule an appointment with them while Eric is here over the summer that way he could see all the samples and albums too... I think he will be sold! ;)

Also, I received a phone call from Kristi Davis yesterday... we have a wedding planner!!! YAY!!!!! Her name is Carol Mikles (spelling?) and she seems sooo sweet! (She actually called me today at work and we chatted for a little bit.) I guess they are putting together a box they will ship out tomorrow that includes a signed copy of the agreement, more sample menus, more wedding info (I'm guessing the typical package they send brides?), and (best of all!) samples of our save the dates and invitations. They won't say our names on them, but they will be the real things. Kristi kept gushing over them saying how gorgeous they were... I can't wait to see!!!! I have to call her as soon as the box arrives. I'm really excited! Best of all, Eric will be flying East for business all next week, so he'll be visiting me in CT next weekend. I can't wait to share all the DFTW "goodies" we receive (and see him again!!!!)

Well that's all for now! I'll let you know what arrives when it does!!! :cheer2:

Haha, thanks LoveStitch! I'm trying soooo hard to lose weight. I started at the beg. of March, so i figure 24 lbs in like 3 months isn't too bad! Spending $$ on this wedding sure is motivating though! I know that if I pay for expensive photography, a fancy dress, and for this expensive wedding and I don't get my butt in gear that I'll just be disappointed in myself and won't enjoy my wedding. That in itself is big time motivation (but not enough just yet to stop me from having 2 skinny cow ice cream sandwiches for snack tonight... read the next post for more!)

So on Monday I received an awesome email from Kristi Davis, my coordinator, telling me that she found out the designer and colors of the Bridesmaid Dresses for the Disney Dream Wedding, since I am going with similar colors. I asked if she could get a hold of that info for me. I just loved how the dresses shined, and even though I cannot use the same style because one of my bridesmaids has a large chest and another none at all (she'll be 12.5 at the time of my wedding), I still love the color! She confirmed that it is:

Bill Levkoff
Style #801
Burnt Orange #298
Tissue Taffeta

A HUGE thank you to pooh98378, who was right on the money in guessing the dress in my previous help thread!!! You rock!!! :thumbsup2

In any case, Kristi also said they shipped a package (with a bunch of DFTW stuff including our sample save the dates and invitations) for Eric and I via priority mail and to expect it Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, but most likely Tuesday, and she informed me that someone would have to sign for it (which I can understand, but that's a pain because most likely no one will be home and I'll have to go rush to pick it up before the post office closes at 6. Did I mention my commute to and from work is an hour?) Plus, I don't usually get home until 7:30-8pm when i work out at the gym right after work (I've been working out 5-7 days a week.) Well I rushed home on Monday and skipped the gym, and of course no package or notice that they had attempted delivery. A little bummed that there was nothing there and that I skipped the gym for nothing, I was a bit cranky last night. So today I had the worst morning (I got stuck in traffic that took an hour to get out of, so i was an hour late to work!!) and then just a long day at work... as soon as my mom got home I called her every half hour to find out if there was any package in the mail... NOPE! UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH frustrated!!!!!!! I know priority means three day, and that's not counting Friday or the weekend, but SERIOUSLY! Florida to Connecticut should not take THAT long!!! So then I worked out some of my frustration in the gym, b*tched to Eric on my way home, and then got home and sulked a bit, ate my dinner.... and fed my USPS annoyance with 2 skinny cow ice cream sandwiches and some ritz crackers. :headache: I mean I know that I easily could've eaten 2 containers of Ben and Jerry's and at least I made a better choice, but I also recognized old bad habits coming back when I get stressed... I feel like I haven't eaten well since I came back from San Diego or gotten back into my workout routine... :sad2: I'm just bummed about the package STILL not being here and disappointed in myself for not getting my act together and using all this as excuses!

I guess tomorrow is another day and I just need to start anew sticking to my diet and praying that the package comes! Hopefully I'll have something good to share with you tomorrow! :confused3 Otherwise, who knows!??!?!

I know I'm being a big baby and that I should just have patience... especially with all the good luck we've had so far with our contract and all, but still... I'm TIRED OF WAITING FOR USPS TO DO THEIR JOB!! Technically the 3rd day was MONDAY! Ok, I need to stop. It's not fair to them. Its just that feeling badly about myself and falling off the diet wagon lately has brought me down and I was looking forward to using the stuff in this package as further motivation...

Again, I'm sorry for having to vent... it's just one of those weeks!!

Good luck with the FIL's. I hope they get a better attitude toward the whole thing and its easier to tell yourself that you won't let it get you down, but when it's family or even future family, that is easier said than done. No matter what, I wish you luck and happiness.

Don't shoot the messenger, but let me share my "USPS Priority Service" issue with you. Mine just happened to be with our DFTW contract ! As you know, the contract is supposed to be sign and the originals returned within "x" number of days, I believe mine was 20. Anyway.... my DF and I lived in separate towns, so getting together and signing it had to wait until the weekend, already eating into our 20-day time frame. We got ours signed and I chose to send it priority mail, with signature, to assure it arrived in time so as not to lose our date.

Two days came...and went...three days came...and went, then four, five... and so on. I kept checking my tracking number online and the only information it had was that it was accepted at my local post office (well, duh...I know...I took it there to mail it...I know they accepted it !). So finally, after several frantic calls to the postal service with no one giving me information and my 20th day running close, I asked to speak to a supervisor. Online tracking still hadn't shown that it had ever left my post office. With UPS and Fed Ex, I know that every time it passes through a center it is scanned and you can tell every truck it is on right up to the point you sign for it at your door.

So, I am talking with the supervisor and explain that a VERY important, time-sensitive contract is in that envelope and that I was told it would reach Orlando in 2-3 days (I asked when I mailed it). She very curtly told me that "Priority mail is not guaranteed to arrive in 2-3 days, that that time frame is an estimate." I explain that it has now been well over a week and that my time is running out to get it to it's destination. I ask if she can tell me "where" it is. She looks it up and gives me the same information I found online...that it was received at my local post office...nothing more ! :scared1:

By now, I am having what I guess might be called a bridezilla moment as she further informs me that they can do nothing to "trace" it until 14 days have passed. By then, of course, my 20 days to return it to Disney are long gone.

So the next morning I call my WC (Juliana) and explain my dilema to her to see what I need to do to hold our date as the postal service can't tell me where my contract even is. Juliana looks in our file... and guess what is in there ???? Our contract. Apparently it DID arrive in time, but the postal service had NO record of it ever leaving Iowa !!

I was SO ticked off (okay, I chose a "nice" word to put there), that I vowed to NEVER send anything of value or time-sensitive material through the USPS ever again. Not only was I misled with delivery time-frames, but they couldn't even tell me "where" my package was. Not to mention the poor customer service !

So, in short, don't hold your breath on the 2-3 day time frame...it's only an estimate....:sad2:

HEY THERE!

You poor thing. In the course of a year you will fall off the band wagon more than once- it just happens because you are trying to plan this event. the good news is that the event is so wonderful (and you have the Disboards) that you will always jump right back on.

I've started my diet about 4 times now (and there may be more after this week's food fiasco:laughing: )

Also, my dftw info was sent to the post office because no one was home to sign for it. Which was fine, all I had to do was plan to leave early one day and pick it up. My commute is sometimes over an hour so i know what you mean.

No worries, you are ahead of schedule. keep us posted!

No worries vent away. We all have good and bad days. Don't be to hard on yourself you have plenty of time to lose the weight. You will be a stunning bride. Can't wait to see what fun things you get in the mail.

aww thanks, Laura!! My gosh your wedding is less than a month away and yet you still have time to be here for all the rest of us. You're a blessing!!!

wow. subscribing here. Dh and I were not able to have a DFTW, but I love reading about and seeing them...It seems like your wedding is going to be absolutely beautiful...I'm so excited to keep seeing and hearing more about it...

Hi Shyvioletisme! I will definitely keep you posted! :goodvibes

I'm glad I could help!!

Feel free to vent away - that's what we're here for! I'm sure it will all work out!

Thanks, pooh98378! That's what I love about DISBoards... everyone is there for one another throughout this crazy and stressful process! :grouphug:

Congratulations on being assigned your wedding planner! And for losing so much weight! That's really fantastic in 3 months, and I daresay you're an inspiration!! You look awesome in your holidays snaps, and I'm sure you will look fantastic in your wedding dress! Don't worry about it - everyone has slip ups  xx

Hi Hayley!!

You're soooo sweet! Thank you so much for your support!!! I just have to keep at it, even when I mess up. It's funny because I had not seen a picture of myself since a Holiday I had in the beginning of February, so when I saw those I just took I couldn't believe that even I could see a difference!!! Crazy! In any case, thank you again for everything! You are definitely a sweetheart!!!

Wow, it sounds like your wedding plans are coming together nicely and I can't wait to here more and more as you get closer to the big day. It seems so far away but the time will fly.

Good luck with the FIL's. I hope they get a better attitude toward the whole thing and its easier to tell yourself that you won't let it get you down, but when it's family or even future family, that is easier said than done. No matter what, I wish you luck and happiness.

Allie_to_you: Thanks for the well wishes, especially with the inlaws! Who knows how that will go... I completely agree that when it comes to family/future family it's difficult. It's especially hard because I already feel like I'm doing a lot moving from Connecticut (and leaving all my family) to California for DF so he can keep working at his parent's company.

I don't know how I've missed your planning journal so far, but i'm glad I found it. Everything looks great so far, and I loved the pictures of the Disney Dream wedding so I'm sure your wedding is going to be gorgeous!
I understand how frustrating the USPS can be. I ordered a diet book off Amazon early last week and got conformation that it was shipped on wednesday and I still haven't received it. Hang in there, i'm sure both our packages will come today :goodvibes

Thanks for reading, Stitchfan18! Your wedding is just a few months before mine, so I'm excited to be able to follow yours as well!

I love those Disney Dream wedding pics too... sometimes I worry that I'm by taking bits and pieces as inspiration that I'm more like copying them, but I'm going to do my best to use those ideas and make them my own!

I hope USPS did their job and your book arrived today! What diet book did you get, if you don't mind me asking? I thought Bob Green's new book "The Best Life Diet" is really good!

:scared1:

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!! :scared1: Swmhc, that is a NIGHTMARE!!!!! Crazy!!! I'm sooo glad it had a positive end, but nonetheless that is just terrible behavior!! I had the same sort of experience when I used USPS to send my college applications overnight... I even got the door slammed and locked in my face when I arrived at 5:57pm to send something and they closed at 6pm. Have they never heard of customer service?! :sad2: I don't think so!!!

I am happy to say that they did their job today and the package arrived in one piece! YAY!!!!

HEY THERE!

Hi AbbyPan!

It's so nice to vent to others who are going through the same struggle! It's comforting to know that you're not alone, ya know?

I came home early again today (so I didn't hit the gym right after work), but I'm proud to say that I did go on a 2 mile jog once I did get home when I found out my dad picked up my package for me. At first I totally didn't want to, but once it was done it wasn't that bad. It's just the initial push. It still didn't stop me from trying one of the chocolate chip cookies my mom baked for my sister's school tomorrow, but it was just one cookie, so no harm done! I can't deprive myself either, otherwise I'd go insane!!!! :upsidedow

I realize now how silly it was to panic and be impatient, especially since my wedding is 18 months away, but if impatience is my only (hopefully!) bridezilla quality, then I think I'll generally be ok! :rotfl:

I've been reading your PJ too and I LOVE LOVE LOVE your dress. OMG it's stunning!!! And I love a beach theme... that's what we would've done if we didn't decide on doing one of the Tutera themes. Growing up in CT, I spent my summers vacationing on Cape Cod, so the beach and the sea always has a special place in my heart (just ask DF! I think I've been driving him crazy decorating his (soon to be ours!) bedroom in a beachy theme. Poor guy!)

Courtney, I am so glad your package arrived...finally! You are doing soo good with your weight loss! I can see a difference just from your engagement pics to the most recent pic you posted! Congrats! And, coming from very personal experience, I know how hard it is to lose weight! I have yo-yo'd my entire life from the time I was 7 (the year my parents divorced) until now, at 33. Not that I started dieting until high school, but man my weight has always been an issue. I've been a size 4 all the way to a 16.

Maybe you'll be motivation for me! I need to lose about 25-30 pounds, where I was two years ago! I need to go back to Weight Watchers I guess. That worked for me. Are you following a specific plan, or just watching what you eat and exercising??

Thanks for venting, it shows you're normal!! We are here for you! GL! You are too cute anyway! Isn't it sad we can't just all love our bodies the way they are and try to live a healthy, active lifestyle??
:yay:

Oh, yeah, I also have almost an hour commute each way every day to work, so i can understand your long, tiring schedule on the weekdays. It makes it harder to come right home and exercise! I am hungry by the time I get home around 6pm (assuming I come right home!) So good for you for heading to the gym right after work!

Hi Gina Loves Disney! Thanks so much for reading my planning journal!!! Maring Lifestyle Photographers are in fact in Wallingford. How funny! They are right on Center Street... I didn't even know they were there and I lived in Wally-World my entire life!

Are you also from Wallingford? If so, it's a very small world after all!!! :lmao:

It is a small world. I knew I'd heard of them before. I am not from Wallingford but nearby. I went to Southern CT for undergrad so I've been around that way a lot in the last few years.

I love all your plans so far... I still need to catch up with the journal though, I don't come on here enough!

OMG, I can't believe how much I freaked out the last two days, but the package finally arrived today! Actually my dad left work early (he was taking care of his boss's farm at the time, so he could be a little flexible) and came home, picked up the "sorry we missed you" note, and when to go pick it up at the post office. I left work 20 minutes early hoping I'd get here in time to do it myself, but I hit some bad traffic (go figure!). Amen for Daddy coming through to save the day!!!!

But the package they sent is AMAZING!

First, it contained a super sweet note from Kristi Davis. Omg, I just love her!!!!! What a fantastic person and her note was so sweet... it almost made me cry!! Also, there was a quick hello note from Carol Mikles, our planner, who said she's looking forward to meeting us at our site visit (Carol blocked off her schedule so she could meet us on that day! I think I'm going to love her too!!) And then inside were our annual passes... YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cheer2: I always wanted to have Disney annual passes and now we do! I was kinda confused at first because they don't look like annual passes, just more like bright green funky receipts, but they definitely are the passes (and park hopper ones at that! Sweeeeeet!!!:thumbsup2 )

Then was the annual pass voucher explanation... and a copy of our signed contract... then...

Our sample Save-the-Dates and sample invitations!!! YAY!!!! OMG they are gorgeous! Apparently they are by Alpine Creative Group in NYC. The Save-the-Dates are on this pearlized white paper with 4 corners gathered in the middle (with a pearlized silver and white square holding all four corners together with the return address on it.) When you open it, it's layered pearlized white, silver, green, then white paper again and says "Save the date for our wedding celebration. 07.15.07 (obviously just an example) time, the wedding pavilion, disney, BRIDE'S NAME . GROOM'S NAME" The texture is so different... and the style is very elegant and clean. The invitations are in silver pearlized envelopes with green printing for the addresses. When you open it up, the invitation is the white pearlized paper again with the square in the middle acting as the seal (but this time the card it just folds down instead of on all corners). The square says "BRIDE'S NAME . GROOM'S NAME" with a rhinestone in the middle as the "." It unfolds to open and there is a piece of vellum with Bride's Initials and Grooms Initials "BN . GN" in the middle again with a rhinestone as the "." The font is a shiny silver. Then When you remove that it goes green pearlized paper, silver pearlized paper, and white pearlized paper with a mix of green and silver colored text (similiar to the save the date.) The invitation says "Bride's Name . Groom's Name, together with their parents invite you to join them as they join hands in marriage, 07.15.07, time, the wedding pavilion, disney, reception to follow. Then below in the bottom fold (which was made into a folder-like area) are cards that are labeled "reception, RSVP, Accomodations or Directions" with info on all of them. Like I said... they are very clean lined, but beautiful... I suppose that's why they call it simply chic!!

I left my camera at work by mistake, so I can't post any pictures of them just yet, but I promise I will tomorrow!!!!!

Finally, included in the package was David Tutera's new party planning book called "The Party Planner" (which was photographed entirely by Charles and Jennifer Maring BTW!!!!!)... so I open it up to take a look and on the title page was an inscription by David! He wrote: "Courtney & Eric, Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Looking forward to creating your special day. Forever believe in Magic... I do. David Tutera"

I thought that was so sweet! I was touched that he took the time to personalize our wedding collection a bit more. I originally assumed he would want nothing to do with his collection once he was finished designing it, but he has been really involved and responsive! (I mean he totally didn't have to suggest bridal party colors, but he did anyway!) And with this sweet gift, he is truly a fantastic and very personal person! :thumbsup2

Well I need to head to bed, but I had to share this with everyone!! I will post pictures tomorrow!

ok, but I have to say I was a little bummed because I immediately called up Eric to tell him about the package (that he's been comforting me over for the last 2 days), but as soon as I start to tell him he interupted me asking for directions for the Hard Rock Cafe in Niagra Falls (he's visiting Buffalo on business this week) instead... then he had to go! So I didn't get to tell him (more like he didn't care at the time.) I know he didn't mean to hurt my feelings, but I was SOOOOOOOO excited to tell him all about it, but he was more concerned about getting food in his stomach  Not cool! My mom told me that males tend not to necessarily care about this type of stuff all the time and not to take it personally, but I thought he would care, especially after I complained non-stop about it not arriving... well he did eventually care later on and said he was sorry for cutting me off. He didn't think that's why I had called and it wasn't on his mind at the moment. I guess since I'm on one track wedding planning mode I assumed he would be too, but I guess that's why opposites attract and he's a "go with the flow" type guy. I'm for sure the detailed one in the relationship!!!

hey girl, sorry about that, yes guys are a little, what's the term? "Aloof?" Sometimes we are on total ends of the spectrum when it comes to wedding planning.

Although, I'm sure once you tell Eric that it made you sad, he'll feel awful about it. I think some of us on the boards can relate:laughing:

SOOO happy that you got your tickets! yaye! and i think that is sooo cool that David personalized a note for you, that's so sweet!

By the way, my family and I LOVE Cape Cod. We've vacation in Brewster and always visit Provincetown, ...uhh, nothing like being at the tip of the shore and looking out and seeing nothing but ocean!

I'm sure you can try to incorporate some kind of sea stuff into your theme, no? Maybe you can ask Carol or David???:confused3

hi Courtney - just read your journal from start to finish - love it!! first off, best of everything to you and Eric. it looks like you guys have everything so well planned out. and your wedding will be elegant and chic beyond your dreams.. I love calla's also and am using silk since my actual wedding and celebration luncheon are 4 days apart...

looking forward to more details and photos...and of course, quite curious about Eric's parents reaction to your plans. don't let their negativity get to you - this is somthing the two of you obviously have put enormous thought and effort into - and like it's been said before, we here on these boards will listen anytime you need to vent..

trust me - we all have or will shortly! :rotfl:

Hi Everyone!

I am sorry I have to make this post quick... I've spent the last few hours helping my family clean our house  because Eric is coming to visit tomorrow! YAY! I'll pick him up at the airport pretty late at night and he'll fly back on Tuesday afternoon (and I'm not taking Monday off from work. He's going fishing with my dad for some bonding time,) so just a quick trip... but we will see each other again when I fly to DISNEYLAND only 8 days after he leaves on Tuesday!!!!!!!!! :dance3: :cool1: :woohoo: :yay:

Needless to say, it's been a busy night (which is why I won't have time to respond to everyones comments right away, but I will eventually!!) Thank you everyone for responding and sticking around through our LONG planning process!!!

I remembered to bring my camera home from work with me today and wanted to share some pictures of the gift we received as well as the sample save-the-dates and invitations. The invitations are just samples, not the real things. Just so Eric and I can have an idea of what to expect!

David Tutera's book we received (notice in the bottom left hand corner who the photographers are!!!)

The autographed title page:

What our Save-The-Date looks like unopened. The middle of that square says "return address," so I'm thinking that's where our address will go and then you flip it over and will have the guest's mailing address:

Another view of the front of the invitation (but you can really see how the paper just sparkles and shines!):

A closer view of the front:

Our invitations opened up (with the velum on the top with our initials and a rhinestone)- The style really reminds me of Jasnal's invitations!

A closer view of the invitation without the velum on top:

A picture of the info cards tucked into the "folder" of the invitations:
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/Picture010.jpg

I took this picture to try to show you the sparkle/shine of the paper. It's just sooo pretty!!!
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/Picture011.jpg

I'm sorry some of them were pretty blurry. When I tried to take the pictures with my flash you couldn't see anything but whiteness, so i tried it without and got the best shots I could.

Well I need to get going and finish up a few things around the house before I head to bed... I hope you enjoyed the pictures!! Goodnight everyone!!

Figmentfan814- That's awesome that you were able to hear more about the styles! Can you sharing anything that they said with me? I'd love to hear!!! That must be the other wedding that Kristi Davis told me about. How cool! I wonder what style that person picked!

I'm really excited to see you're getting married in EPCOT!! It's by far my favorite park in all of Disney!! :thumbsup2

I was reading back through some things on your PJ and noticed that I hadn't responded to your question. They didn't really share too many details about the wedding. They were talking about how everyone was excited to formally start planning their first couture wedding. Our floral designer said that it was interesting to work with David Tutera getting all the styles designed. She said that they were very meticulous to take photos of everything from every single angle to make sure that when they duplicated them for brides, everything would be up to his standards.

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry I haven't written much in 2 months. Life has been crazy... really not so good crazy. :confused3

I recently interviewed for a position at my company's branch in the Bay Area of California... now I knew about eventually going back there since I left and this open position since the beginning of July. The reality that I might actually get it and will be able to FINALLY live with Eric on a permanent basis is exciting and wonderful (I miss him SOOO much!), however I'm devistated to have to leave my family. I really do love the East Coast.:sad1:

As everyone knows, Eric's parents gave us a really hard time about our Disney engagement. Unfortunately, things have gotten worse with them. They have said so many hurtful things. I'm devistated, Eric's devistated, and so are my parents... of course this happens RIGHT when I start down a path of changing my life by going out there!

I haven't heard back about the job yet (my interview was on Tuesday, so I still have some time), but I figure it's God's will and everything happens for a reason.

I've been going through a really rough point right now, so I wanted to say that I love you all and still appreciate all of your comments on our wedding (even though I haven't responded individually to them.) Eric and I both decided that having our dream wedding is extremely important to us, so we are going to try our best and move forward as far as we can with all of this crap going on! I promise that once things settle down I will update you all on the details.

In the mean time, I will post a few pictures of Eric and my trip to Disneyland for our 1 year engagement anniversary. It was so special!!! We also bought into Disney Vacation Club! Our first piece of property together!!!!! Only fitting it would be Disney.

I hope you enjoy and again I'm sorry for being so stinky about updating!

Our engagement anniversary dinner... same spot and everything!

Courtney,

As much grief as his parents are giving you - what matters most is how Eric and you are dealing with this. In the end, it's the two of you who will be married and sharing and starting a life together. From what you've written and the photos, it is very certain that Eric loves you beyond belief and you him. And Courtney, that's it in a nutshell. It's a shame that his parents wish to treat Eric as a commodity - to actually hire a lawyer! absolutely horrible. People sometimes don't realize what they do to drive other people out of their lives. Hopefully his parents will wise up - quickly!

In the meantime, keep us up to date with all your plans - I just know your wedding will be everything you want!

:grouphug: Oh my goodness! I can't believe his parents. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall to see what your parents reaction was to that meeting. I would have been so insulted if I was them.

I hope that everything works out, and that his parents come to accept you as part of their family. Having a rift in the family won't be easy for anyone.

Good luck to you and Eric. I hope you hear about the job soon!

oh my, I am SO sorry to hear how bad things are with Eric's parents. It is good to know that you two aren't letting this stop your plans in the least. Just keep your head up, know that you are a wonderful person and revel in yours and Eric's love for each other. Keep planning that wedding and marry the man you love. That's all you need.

btw, love the pics you posted...that ring he bought you to wear on the wedding day is gorgeous!!!

What an awful way to treat someone, I hope everything works out for you because if not, you could have years of trouble with his parents ahead of you. One question, can Eric intervene at all? After all it's his parents - has he confronted them about all this?

Another question/piece of unsolicited advice: is there a way you guys can work your finances so ultimately you will not be financially dependent on them, so they will not be able to wield any power? I know San Fran is the most expensive housing market in the country, but maybe you could come up with a long-term plan to not have to depend on his parents any longer, even if it means moving to a different area or a smaller apartment/house. Just a thought. Good luck with everything!

Sorry to hear about all the problems that his family is causing you. It sounds like they are just looking for excuses at this point.

I realize that the bay area is incredibly expensive, DH and I use to live in the San Jose area and left due to the high cost. I don't know where you are interviewing for work, but if you are willing to commute there are options for more "afforable" (relatively speaking) communities, you just have to seek them out. DH use to work in the city and communted form all parts of the bay area so it can be done. Hopefully things will be resolved soon enough.

OMG! I don't have much advice but I wanted to send some happy thoughts and PD your way. It sounds like Eric supports you and that you are truly in this together! I think my jaw dropped when I heard his parents flew out for an intervention!

Good Luck with the job. I originally grew up in Northern CA and now live in New England, but if I ever had to move back I'd live in the Bay Area.

The marriage is about the two of you. You will have to learn to deal with his parents but as long as you stand together first, it can be done. Enjoy your day and your future together in spite of their short sightedness. You might be surprised, maybe your maturity will rub off on them!:rolleyes1

I cannot believe it's gotten this bad. To have them stage an intervention and get a lawyer involved, is absolutely ridiculous. I wish you the best of luck with your job. Omg, reading everyone's messages brought tears to my eyes!!!!!

Thank you all for your thoughts and support!!!!! I cannot tell you how much it means to me... or to Eric (even if he only knows of you all as my Dis-crew ;) )

I know some people said they were from the Bay Area... I LOVE Monterey & Carmel. The Old Monterey Inn is one of my favorite B&Bs!!!!

I heard about one of the positions I interviewed in SF for... I didn't get it. That leaves only one more. It would be a fantastic career move.

I'm such a planner that it's hard not knowing what the next few weeks will bring. :headache: All I do know is that come August 31st we are both on a plane to to Disney World for our site visit and I cannot wait!!!!!!!!!!!! It will be a well needed trip there.

I am so sorry to hear that all of this is going on when you should be planning the best part of your lives together! I am glad to see how supportive your FH is and how great you two can communicate with each other. Finding someone that not only understands you, but supports you even when things go on with their family is a great thing. You have a great FH and I am glad you are getting a well needed trip to Disney soon. I hope all works out and I am glad your FH is getting help from a Therapist. It is nice to talk to someone that has no ties to anyone in the dispute what so ever and then offer up their opinion and their guidance. I hope things get better for you and I have really enjoyed reading your Wedding PJ. Your ring that you got for your anniversary was goregous! Take Care

Morgan Hill is a nice community! I grew up in Gilroy just 10 minutes south of you. So I can really understand the home price situation, that's why we left (teachers don't make enough to live on there).

Hopefully his parents will come around and realize that they are being selfish and only thinking about themselves, not realizing that their actions are causing problems for everyone. Hopefully their therapist will make them come around.

Thank you EVERYONE for all of your wonderful and sweet wishes! I don’t know what I would do without your support!!! :grouphug: Eric and I went through a major rough patch over the last week or so, but things have gotten so much better and I strongly believe we are closer because of it!

Right in the middle of this whole mess, Eric and I did put down a deposit for The Marings. I didn't want to at the time because I was angry at Eric and about everything that what was going on, but I'm so glad I did today now that everything is mostly behind us. Our wedding photos are going to be amazing! We're going to take our engagement shots in Fall 2008 in Connecticut, so I can't to see them!!

Also, I wanted to share that I (surprisingly!!!!) found my wedding dress!!!!! I'm not going to post any details on it in my planning journal (just incase Eric checks), but I did post it on the Wedding Dress Board, so feel free to check it out! Here is the link:

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=20498554&postcount=817

I LOVE it!!! I didn't believe anyone when they said "you just know," but it was so true. I felt so beautiful and special in that dress. Ways that I've never felt about myself before! It was strange and almost surreal. Beth and her team at the White Dress By the Shore in Clinton, CT were fantastic, especially Sara (who helped me personally!) I really cannot say enough fantastic things about them all! I can’t wait to check out the bridesmaid dresses now! They are definitely coming from there!

I don't want to post full-length photos of my dress yet, so that way it will still be a surprise when on the wedding day for everyone. :thumbsup2

Well I better head to bed. I apologize for not posting as much lately, but planning as been slow and Eric and I have been going through a lot. I'm so happy things have gotten better.

I cannot wait to see Eric... actually we are seeing each other on Friday morning in DISNEY WORLD!!!!!!!! :cheer2: Yup! It's already time for our site visit!! I can't believe how quickly time went by! (I set the whole thing up almost 6 months ago… weird to think that 6 months from now I will be having my measurements taken for my dress!! Time really does fly by! ) This is a vacation we definitely need! :woohoo: Our weekend is crazy packed though btwn the site visit with Kristi Davis and Carol Mikles; meeting with the florist and head chef at the Contemporary; meeting with CVP Experience for videography; meeting up with an old friend of mine; etc. I'm thinking Eric and I will just have to cancel all of our plans one of the 4 days we are there just so we can spend time alone and together. I really miss just being with him and desperately need a hug after everything that happened... only 4 more days!!!!!

Courtney!! I finally got to read the WHOLE wj! It's been such an emotional roller coaster for you - and look at you - Very strong. In all honesty, I don't think I'd last a LDR . . . but KUDOS to you!!!

Fortunately, I'm blessed with understanding in laws. . . and we always talk about how in laws 'purposely' try to make things worse. . but hey as my FMIL says, "You're marrying my son, not me. . as long as you keep my son happy - I'm happy."

I love your wedding!! You've been planning WAY WAY WAY ahead of time, and I'm so glad you have everything in place. I love your theme, your dress, your ideas - and I'm learning so much from you!!

I'm a DVC member too! Totally got suckered in. . . I mean - hey, Disney without worrying for accomodations???? WHY NOT! Its def worth it. I booked reservations last minute and they still welcomed me . . . and the "Welcome Home" Packets you get when ever you check in is a bonus too!

I'm glad that everything's working out for you and it's very apparent that Eric's got your back, no mattter what. How lucky of you or should I say How lucky of him! Take this vacation and enjoy it !! Can't wait to see the pictures!!

Courtney, I'm sorry to hear things with the Future In laws have gotten so bad. They are out of control. I don't know why. I agree with PP's that it shows a lot that Eric is so in your corner. I am lucky that my DF's family has very little money but they are incredibly grateful for me, so I can pretty much do no wrong. (His parents don't talk, though, so that's another issue)

On the other hand, you look beautiful in that dress. THe color and style are really flattering on you. Blondes often get washed out and you don't look that way, so that's awesome. I couldn't even try on the sample size, so I'm really glad for you. I don't know what you're doing, but I wish I could do it with you! Thanks sooo much!!! I'm so glad you came on this board! I'm really excited to hear about your plans in the next coming months! LDR are really hard, but we make it work. I'm getting pretty tired of it since we're going on almost 1.5 years, but with all the holidays coming up we should be able to find plenty of time to see each other! Hopefully by then I'll know where I'll be located!

Isn't it funny how you just get suckered right into DVC? Eric and I were walking by the stand in the California Adventure Park and he thought it would be a great way for me to actually want to leave the country (I love Disney vacations that the thought of going somewhere that wasn't as magical and perfect as Disney was unappealing.) We'll see how well that works, but I'm so excited to check out the digs for the first time on this trip! I don't know what this "welcome home" package is, but I'm psyched to find out Friday!!! I'm also excited to try out one of the EPCOT Resorts. EPCOT is one of my favorite parks.

I'll definitely be sharing my photos when I get back!! Thanks for reading! :)

On the other hand, you look beautiful in that dress. THe color and style are really flattering on you. Blondes often get washed out and you don't look that way, so that's awesome. Aww thanks LuluLovesDisney!!!! Despite how "white" the dress looks, it's actually "off-white." Who would've guessed there are so many shades! I'm sorry to hear that you didn't have a great experience trying on the dresses. I thought I was going to be in the same boat and was not thinking the hunt for a dress was going to be fun at all. I could actually only try on the A-line shapes because I couldn't get the dropped waist gowns or mermaid style over my hips at all! I mean seriously how can anyone try on those gowns unless you are a 10 or smaller? And most people aren't at all! And believe me... the dress might look like it fits well, but it's definitely binder-clipped to my spanx and bra in the back to stay on :rotfl: I didn't realize the binder clips I used at work had a dual purpose!

As for the weight loss, I'm totally here for you if you want to become weight loss buddies! My biggest problems are eating at night and not exercising, so I've tried really really really hard not to eat late (that's when I pig out on snack food and esp. ice cream (my fav and major weakness!!!) and other crap) and I try to go to the gym for at least 20-30 minutes a day (5 days a week.) I was on a roll from the beginning of March-the end of May, but then slowed down significantly because of the weather and a lot of traveling. I used to run cross country in high school, so I recently started running again, but I think the hot, humid, oppressive Connecticut summer air has turned me off from that more recently. I can't wait for when it cools off in the Fall (my favorite season) to get going again! I've also tried to make better choices with my food (fruit as snacks, higher protein diet, smaller portion size, less ice cream (or non-fat frozen yogurt or skinny cows for those PMS or bad days), more salads, etc.) Whenever I want to snack at work, I put a piece of gum in my mouth and I usually forget about it for another hour or two. Also, I started watching my calorie intake on http://www.calorie-count.com

Anyways, if you need inspiration or have any questions, feel free to ask! I need to get serious again myself (after the Disney trip, of course!) :thumbsup2

How exciting that you will be down in Disney World too next week- basically just as we are leaving! I hope you have a blast (you definitely deserve it!), especially with the menu tasting... yum! I can't wait to see how your engagement photos turn out. I've loved reading your planning journal- EPCOT is my favorite park too. You're wedding is going to be gorgeous! Hey, Courtney! Thanks for the well wishes. I would love to be weight loss buddies. I am inspired by your hard work! Are you following a specific plan?

Nighttime is my weakness too. I don't get home from class/work (I'm a grad student and teacher) until 9"30 and I like to eat then.

Just keep your head held high. You're living the dream. Even if your inlaws aren't helping it along like you'd like.

Have a fabulous trip!! I just did (I got engaged, of course I had a great trip!)

I know what you mean about exercise. I wish I had the time to workout like in high school!

Anyway, have a great trip!!!

Hi Everyone,

I went to visit Maring Lifestyle Photographers in their Connecticut office. [...] My favorite part was the photos they made into art. All their pictures are digital, which allows them to be edited and enhanced later on (for example colors and shading enhanced as well as shadowing to help get rid of blemishes or double chins in pictures- exactly what I will need!!) [...] What I liked most about the Marings is that they realize the importance of both artistic/journalistic photos as well as posed group/family ones. That balance was exactly what I was thinking of.

Now the only hard part is the price... Eric and I have not said yes or no just yet, but we are more or less determined to make it work! I actually came home a bit discouraged after realizing they were a few thousand higher than our original budget (but their quote includes engagement shots, consultation, full day coverage, post event consultation, unlimited photographs, full set of previews bound in a book, internet proofing, album design consultation, expert planning for the day, and of course the wedding album as well as any other extras they can add in here and there.)

I completely understand this. We are spending a FORTUNE on our photographer for our AZ wedding. We won't even admit to anyone how much she costs. But, she is amazing. Initially we thought we would spend the money and just buy the negatives from her in order to make our own album. Even this option added up to quite a bit more than we expected. But then we met with her and the albums she does are gorgeous too! In the end, the photos are the only tangible things you have after your wedding is over (besides your hubby of course). That's how I justify spending such a huge amount of the budget on the photographer and the album. Also, it seems like you are like me - quite self conscious. I wanted a photographer I could trust to make me love photographs of myself. Hahaha! It also serves as quite the motivator to keep me working out everyday. If I'm paying that much for photos - don't I want to make sure I look my absolute best in them?

I hope you're enjoying your time in WDW. We will be there in 101 days for our Disneymoon!

I just read your whole PJ. I don't even know where to start. First, congrats on your engagement, nice engagement story. Second, the pictures so far of your dress and invites are just grand. Lastly, I am sorry to hear that you had some problems with your FFIL. Maybe your FSIL thought if she showed them it would make them realize that what they were doing to their son. To see it in writing. It's good to hear that things are on the mend though. You would not want him to be there for his son when you guys do get married. I live in CT too, Shelton. I am so excited that I found your PJ. DH and I will be married for 11 years this October and I would have loved a DFTW but I didn't know they exsisted. I am planning a vow renewal though, not until we hit 25 years though and it most likely just be us and the kids. I love reading about the weddings though, I do have a daughter (she's only 21 months but she already loves Mickey, she squeals when she sees him). Can't wait for more. Here's a hug for you  .

hey Courtney! just caught up on the last couple of pages - your dress is absolutely beautiful and you will look amazing in it!

I just wanted to wish you and Eric a wonderful time in Disney for your planning session. can't wait to see all your photos!! you must be so incredibly excited to see Eric after all this time! :dance3: lol....

we are DVC members also and I just have to say it was one of the BEST investments for us!! especially if you love Disney, as we all do!

have an AWESOME trip!! :cheer2:

Michelle :cloud9:

Thanks, Michelle!!! Eric and I had a BLAST in Disney World!!! I didn't want to leave. The hardest part now is what I miss the most... Eric or Mickey!!! ;)

The DVC accomodations were great. I was a bit bummed to come back to the room at night and see no turn-down or anything, but when you're rushing in the morning to get to the park it was nice to know you could leave your room a bit messy and not have to worry about it until you returned later on!! I'll post a little trip report in a little bit!

Hugs to you Courtney - I'm sorry I missed the whole drama! I can't believe how ridiculous his parents are being! I hope it all works out for you!

Anyway - you're in Disney World right now! I'm so jealous! We just missed each other, I got back on Tuesday! Can't wait for your site visit trip report when you get back!

Aww you're so sweet!!! I definitely missed you while you were away! I hope you had a blast on your trip! :thumbsup2

No specific plan here... just trying to make better choices. At the same time, I'm pretty young and go out to eat a lot. It's a big of a downfall, but now I plan ahead and look up menus or know what is ok to splurge on (dessert instead of ultra creamy pasta or something.) I also watch my alcohol intake because I find it really slows my metabolism. When my family cooks I eat the same thing as everyone else (in other words, when my 11 year-old sister wants chicken nuggets, I eat them too- I just have like 6 instead of 10!) I've slowed significantly and had my cousin's bachelorette party last weekend, so when I stepped on the scale it wasn't a pretty site. I'm starting to go to the gym at work in the morning. Not only do I have less traffic, but it also wakes me up and I feel like I did something already. Plus, I don't have to worry about scheduling in a work out in the afternoon when I'm tired. We're starting another weight loss competition at work on Monday, so that should help as well! Whatever you do, if you have a bad night or day, don't punish yourself or convince yourself you ruined one day and therefore the next and the entire week. Take it 1 day at a time. If you fall off the weight wagon, just climb back on!!

That's EXACTLY how I feel!!!!!! I will never say how much the Marings are soaking us for, but I know our photos will be amazing. Once I saw their work, there was really no turning back!!!! It was amazing... I was blown away!!!

Anyone can check out their work at http://www.maringphoto.com/ It's really beautiful!

Like you guessed, I am also extremely self conscious. I hate most photos of me for one reason or another and I am excited to think that they could bring out the best parts of me. I'm looking forward to feeling pretty for a change. I'm not fishing for compliments by any means, but like a lot of women it's hard to be comfortable in a larger body and so you tend to criticize yourself a lot, especially when you look at others. I also LOVE pictures as wonderful memories, so other than the wedding day itself with Eric, my pictures come next! I'm so glad I'm not alone with my crazy photography choice!

Courtney!! Glad to see you back - Hoping you had a nice reunion w/ eric! Anything new w/ wedding planning???

Eric and I had a wonderful reunion!! It really is such a romantic place! I'll do a little TR soon! :thumbsup2

Hi Laura! I'm so excited you decided to follow my Planning Journal! It's been a crazy last few months, but I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, so I just have to wait for everything to fall into place as it should. How cool that you are from Shelton! Not too far from Wallingford :woohoo: I think a 25th anniversary renewal in Disney World would be awesome, especially since your family seems to love Disney (who could ever not like the mouse? (other than DF's family of course hehehe)) I hope you will stay tuned for more!!:happytv:

Did you visit Franks (or is that where you have your appts?) and did you do the accent? Every time we walk past there its hard not to talk like Frank. (The Chipper Chicken :rotfl2: )

Hope you had a great trip and look forward to reading more.

Hi Everyone!

I'm sorry I've been sort of MIA lately. Big changes are happening right now, so my time has been very limited! I ended up getting a promotion within my company (one of the two jobs I interviewed for back in August... actually the more prestigious of the two.) Therefore, I'll be moving back to San Francisco by the end of October.

I am going to miss my family so much. That's going to be particularly difficult... I have only 4 weeks left, so I've been maximizing my time with my family as much as possible and haven't been online a whole lot. Luckily, I won't miss fall either (it's my favorite season in New England.) Plus, I'll be able to come back here for my dress fitting, meet up with my family in Disney World in July, come back for our engagement photo shoot, and then enjoy the holidays and our wedding next year together. Hopefully it will all fly by quickly.

On the upside, I got a raise as well, so I actually bought my first new car! It's a 2007 Dodge Nitro R/T in... You’ve guessed it... a gorgeous shade of bright burnt orange!!! hehehe :thumbsup2

It's a lot of change very quickly, but hopefully it will just make me a better person and Eric and I a stronger couple.

I'm going to be flying out to the Bay Area to go apartment hunting with Eric this weekend, but when I get a chance before I leave I will finally do my trip report from Labor Day weekend!!

Thinking of you all and I'm sorry for being missing for so long!

Courtney!

Glad to hear back from you. I was wondering what happend, and if everything was all well with you.

Sure sounds like it does! Congrats on the promotion! I too was a bit weary accepting promotion, but like you said, God does have a plan - and take it step by step everyday. Change is always a good thing - it might not be the easiest - but it's always a good thing. You'll gain experience and grow confidence. Looking back a year from now, I'm sure you'd just smile and say that you're such a strong person.

I can't imagine how hard it would be to be far from family, but with technology right now, I'm sure you'd be able to come up with something - hey, at least we're not paying HUGE long distance bills no more! If you ever need shoulder all the gals here at DIS are here to support you (electronically) and our thoughts are always with you.

San Bruno?!? I frequent there. Good food I must say. I work out in Daly City and always go out there for lunch. I'm sure you'd find a good place to stay - there's a bunch of open houses lately, and craigslist would be a good bet too. South City (SSF) is also a nice little place yet near the city.

I love dodge DF has a Ram (HEMI) in Orange. I love Hemi Orange! Dodge is probably the only American Car I can trust - I'm a honda girl lol.

Good luck with everything! and can't wait for your TR!

:thumbsup2 Courtney - Alls I have to say is Phew, did a lot of things happen to you since your last post. I know it will be hard to leave your family, I actually had a friend from TN that only lasted a year in CT because she missed her mom and dad way too much (they even saw each other every 4 months). She moved back to TN in June. Her youngest DS was also very close with my DS and they became very best friends so that was hard to have DS who is only 8 lose such a friend but we are going to TN in June. You will do fine and just keeping remembering you're coming back. And it seems you have a lot of trips planned already to visit so you'll be good :thumbsup2. Also just think you got a raise so if your expenses for the wedding were troubling you it will be a little easier. Glad to hear everything is well though. Oh and btw I love fall here too (I'm in CT too)

Can you make another layer for my early b-day cake? I would like the almond...:goodvibes

That is the day before my b-day too!

Congratulations on your promotion! I know that has to be really hard having to move away from your family. My DF has been down in Ohio for 1 1/2 years and he will be making the move back to Michigan by the beginning of next year. He was able to plan a lot of trips home too which made it easier for him too.

The move was for his job and he was able to gain some new skills and will be bringing them back home with him. I'm sure you will be able to do the same. It will be a great learning experience and at least you and Eric will finally be back in the same place.

Hi everyone!

Sorry it's been so long since my last post. Eric and I are still getting settled into our apartment (I've been here just over 2 months and I just finished unpacking all of my clothes this past weekend!) and I'm starting to get back into the swing of things with work and getting a routine down. Having so many holidays the first 2 months of moving was great because I knew that I would be going back to CT practically every 3 weeks for Thanksgiving and Christmas. In fact, I was able to spend 13 days at home for Christmas (a mix of company holidays, personal time-off, and working remotely from the branch I was in (how cool is my boss that she let me do that!? She's the best!))

Now I'm dealing with a bit of homesickness since I won't be headed home to CT until April for my dress fitting. :sad2: It's amazing how old habits creap up on you too... i gained back 15lbs that I lost over the summer because I stopped exercising and watching what i was eating once i moved out here and then with the holidays. :headache: With less than 1-year before my wedding (never thought I'd be saying that!!!) time to get my butt in gear... now if I could get rid of this awful cold I picked up on the flight out here I'd be all set!

Now for an actual wedding update-

Due to financial constraints, we decided to limit our guest number down a bit, which is going to be hard because now a lot of friends and extended family members will not be on the list. It makes me sad and I hope I don't disappoint anyone, but hopefully they will understand since we are paying for it all ourselves.

We also told Eric's parents about our Disney wedding. They didn't really say much, so I guess no new is good news as the saying goes. :confused3

Right now I'm working with Kristi to reserve a suite for the ladies in the bridal party. I thought it was be fun for all us girls to spend the night together the night before (like a giant sleepover!) and then we'll have a room to stay in for the next day to get ready. :thumbsup2 Then the bridesmaids will move into different rooms for the night of the wedding and Eric and I can spend our first night together there. Also, Eric and I will start working with Kristi on the save-the-dates soon! I can't believe they will be sent out in about a month or so! Crazy huh!!!

Best of all, we booked our next Disney World vacation! Eric and I are meeting my parents and sister down there the 3rd week in July for our planning sessions. Let the countdown begin!!! :woohoo:

Everyone keeps telling me that the next year will fly by and once we really start on the wedding plans I think I will have the distraction I need to get over being homesick. Getting over this stupid cold and back into my diet and exercise routine will help as well because I will feel a little better about myself. Things are looking up and I have plenty to look forward to, even though I'm not on the East Coast anymore.

Sorry again for such a long delay in writing! I hope you all will continue to stick with me... Your support and well-wishes has meant a lot to me over the last year. I promise I'll have more to update soon as plans are starting to unfold slowly but surely!

Good to see you again! :goodvibes That year really will fly by, and if you measure your next trip home in Wedding-Planning Months (a.k.a. using one of those 12-month to-do lists from the wedding magazines), it will give you a heart attack when you see how soon it is :rotfl:

I have to say, I laughed when you said your FMIL's only question about the wedding when you broke the news was "What color exactly is burnt orange?" - how did you break the news? "Hi guys! So.... we'regettingmarriedinDisneyWorldhopeyoudon'tmind. And the colors are silver and burnt orange!" :lmao:

I reserved a one bedroom villa for the exact same reason... but now I have 6 girls staying the night instead of just my 3 bridesmaids!

My site coordinator is helping me book the suite- it's going to be one in main building of the Grand Floridian and sleeps 8 people (1 king bed, 2 queens, and 1 queen sleeper sofa)... Kristi sent me a ton of different room plans as options from both the Grand Floridian and the Contemporary at all different prices. I would maybe contact your site coordinator or planner for help. I'm sure they have room plans/suites available for the other Disney hotels too. If you're a DVC member they have larger villas available that sleep like 10 people at different hotels! Hope this helps!

Hi Everyone!

Our wedding is coming along slowly, but surely! It's hard to believe that it's actually less than 10 months away already!!!

I received a call from Kristi on Friday to tell me that our Save-the-Dates are almost ready!! YAY! Plus, Eric and I had a conference call with Carol and the head chef, Chef Robert, of the Contemporary Resort, a few weeks ago to discuss our menu for our wedding and what we are going to sample for our tasting session in July. Some of the options we have "OR" in between because we will choose at our tasting session.

Here is what we've come up with:

LoL quite literally it was like that! I think I was talking a mile a minute just kind of blurting out as much as possible to move on the from the fact that it would be in Disney World.

Carrie, I have to say I've spent this ENTIRE weekend reading your entire planning journal and trip report from beginning to end... I LOVE the dahlias! I think Rose is going to kill me too because now I think I have a NEW idea for my floral bouquet- gorgeous out-of-season flowers :rotfl: and the necklace you wore is gorgeous! I love the pop of color. My mom and I always called aqua/turquoise our "color" because no matter what it actually looks decent on us! I have to say that I might be rethinking my accent colors a little since orange and turquoise look soo good together! hmmmm....

Glad to know that you move went okay. I was supposed to go home (to Berlin, CT) the weekend before Christmas, but my work was so crazy that I needed to work that weekend. Thankfully, my mom, stepfather and niece came to visit me the weekend after Christmas. I'm glad that I am only a 4 hour drive away.

aww how nice of them to visit you! I was actually able to make a quick trip home 2 weekends ago. I took a red eye in to Hartford on Saturday morning and then had to drive down to Warren, NJ for training. I caught the flu after that trip, but it was worth it to see my family for at least a day!

I am so glad that you DF's parents didn't flip out! I can't wait to read more about your wedding plans!

Thanks, Goldeelox9! We've had to do a little "damage control" here and there, but it has gotten much better! Hope you will keep reading!

so beautiful!! and diffrent and elegant. it will beoutstanding. one question is that all included i mean do you change the decor (not that i think you should) or is it just when you pick the "chic" this is what you get colors, floral, food? just woudnering
but honestly i dont think you should change anything

When you pick the "chic" collection, that's what you get as a base, but you can change some things here and there as you go along. Originally that wasn't going to be an option, but I guess they opened it up. They talked about using burnt orange charger plates at the reception or burnt orange rose petals lining the isle instead of the white for my wedding in particular, but that's all stuff we'll figure out at the planning session and honestly I really like the white just as it is. Even when it came to the menu I thought I wanted something very traditionally New England (heavy foods) because it's homey to me and ones that I love, but then I thought about the sample menu they gave for the collection and I loved that too (and it was a bit lighter considering the amount of food we will have!) So what we ended up doing is putting my "heavy" New England favorites as appetizers for the cocktail hour (stuffed shrimp, lobster bisque, veal oscar fork) and infused more Ginger in the wedding menu itself as well as adding a more "Indian" type of chicken dish, which is more "us."

At first it seemed like the collection was very much "this is all you get-nothing can be changed!", but now it seams like they are a bit more flexible. It's a nice change!

The location is beautiful! I may have to come stand quietly in the back just to see the transformation! ;)

Love your orange sweater. The color looks great on you.

At least you have the right attitude about no news is good news. You have enough to worry about so move on. :thumbsup2

Thanks, askelton!!! I LOVE orange. It's a sickness hehehe... when I was turning 2 years-old all I wanted for my birthday was a cabbage patch doll in an orange dress. Not only were those dolls in a major shortage at the time, but none came in the box in an orange dress. But my Gram found a orange dress sold separately in a pack of many outfits and switched out the doll's original outfit to be the orange dress just so I could have the one of my dreams. It's funny how colors can have a lot of fun memories behind them!

You're back! You're back! I missed you and your plans!!

I have to say, the Wedding Pavillion looks ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS like that! Even my DBF went WOW when I showed him! I kinda saved the photos in our 'wedding' file :)

Glad the move went okay for you!

Hi Hayley!! I missed you too!!!! aww good you should save them and use them as ideas! Like I said earlier, I just looked at Carrie's trip report and have a whole new set of ideas!!

I hope you are doing well!!!!

Yay! You're back! I've been waiting for updates of your planning.

One question for you - did you post somewhere about your tasting at the Contemporary and I missed it? Or maybe I only thought you were doing something like that?! I'd love to hear.

I'm so glad to hear that your new job is going so well!

No tasting session just yet! We have that one scheduled for July, but we did have an "upgraded" reservation at the restaurant at the top of the contemporary resort- complete with 2 bottles of really expensive, super yummy (and I typically hate it!) wine- thanks to our new "Chef friends" that we met during our site visit. We even got to go behind the scenes to see the Contemporary kitchen area and went to a cast member party (celebrating the fact that the hotel got it's "green" certificate) to check out the different foods and presentations there. It was a blast! I always think it's fun to see Disney "behind the scenes" so to speak.

I juts have to pop in here and say I really love your Ceremony look. I was wowed! Congrats on your promotion even though you had to move. I will all work out in the end:cloud9:

Thanks for the kind words, mermaidbride1108!!

Oh my! I just read your PJ for the first time (from start to finish) and wow! You're so awesome, first of all. I'm kinda jealous now... I want the couture wedding. Oh well. But seriously, it's all soooo beautiful!!!! Thank you for posting all the pics and such.

And sorry about the in law drama. I'm going through crazy in law drama too. I don't know what I would do if it weren't for these boards. I mean, none of my friends really want to hear about it - and all my bridesmaids are in different states and when they call my DF is around and I can't complain about his family. You know what I mean! Anyway, good luck with your amazing wedding! I can't wait to hear more! (subbing)

Haha I totally know what you mean!

And believe me... we realize that our wedding is way over the top and a once in a life time crazy event. Originally we justified it with we had a home (which typically newlyweds needed to save for) and good paying jobs, but then our situation changed quickly, but our hearts were still set on the wedding of our dreams. Luckily we should still be able to pull it off with a few sacrifices from our original wish list (now there are no fireworks for DF, no Cinderella carriage for me, much smaller guest list, Disney Videography, etc) Honestly though i have no idea what I will do with myself once this event is over!!! I guess then it will be time to plan a 5th anniversary VR, right? :rolleyes1

The pictures of the before and after transformation of the sites are amazing! I am definitely looking forward to continuing to read about your plans.

Aren't they crazy? At first glance it seems like the Contemporary ballrooms are a little outdated, but then they look fantastic with their makeovers! I hope you'll stay tuned for more!

Wow!!!! Your wedding is going to be beautiful! My SIL had burnt orange and it's a really beautiful color. She was complimented all night my the skeptics.

I'm so happy to hear that! Do you know where she happened to find her BM dresses? I'm still trying to figure that out.

its been a while since i have been thru your pj...it looks like its still coming together wonderfully!!!!
:thumbsup2

Slowly, but surely it's coming along! I started my PJ almost a year ago... I'm surprised how quickly time has flown by, but at the same time I've definitely had gaps here and there where I haven't planned much! Stay tuned for more!:thumbsup2

Any new updates? I'm addicted to your planning.:cool1:

I'm so glad you asked! I get so caught up reading every one else's plans and TR and looking at all the pictures that I often forget to update my own PJ! OOPS! Thanks for the reminder!!

I just read your whole PJ and I'm subscribing. I'm so sorry to hear about all your trials and tribulations but I am looking forward to learning more about your couture wedding. Oh and we had Kristi Davi too.. We loved her. I miss her!

Thanks for reading! Kristi is fantastic... once you move past your save-the-dates, my guess is that you don't work with her as much. It will make me so sad not to get calls from her! She always knows how to brighten your day!!!

Just read your menu. Everything sounds great. Your getting married on my birthday!!! You picked a great date!! Can't wait to hear more!

Haha that's awesome! It's so many people's birthday! Like I told Hayley before, I'll save a piece of cake for you too ;) Hopefully it will bring us good luck as it seems to be a great day!

That menu sounds awesome!

Thanks, yearbook50! It sounds like a heck of a lot of food to me, but I guess that's what weddings are all about! I should also add a funny note because the "shrimp martini" and "poulet rouge mojito" are quite literally shrimp with a martini shooter and chicken with a mojito shooter... my sister is only 11 and was sooo mad when she heard our menu (in her mind, sushi/raw fish= MAJOR EWWW) and that some of our food contains alcohol that she can't have. Luckily we will only have 4 kids under the age of 13 at our wedding, so hopefully the adults won't feel the same!

Wow! I bet you are getting excited! Your wedding will be here before you know it!

I can't believe it's less than 10 months away! It's hard to believe we've been planning it for so long!

Everything looks absolutely wonderful so far! Wow.... Couture! I can't wait to read more!

Thanks, Jessbell34! I hope you will keep reading! I promise to be better with updates from now on

I was home on Feb 17, and I got sick right after that too! Mom says I got sick from someone here, but I didn't start feeling bad until 2 days after I returned from CT. I blame them. I managed to fly to California for a vacation without bursting an ear drum and felt great while I was there, but I've been declining again since I got back to PA. I hope you're feeling better.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

We also booked our hairstylists for our wedding! We are having Deborah Parkinson from the Aveda Salon Nimbus in Los Gatos, CA fly out for our wedding along with fellow hair stylist Steve Elias http://www.steveelias.com/ Both are such sweet people and do FANTASTIC work, so I am sooo excited to have them help us on our big day. Best of all, I can't say how nice it is to actually be able to know your stylist beforehand! :cloud9:

Thanks to Steve's recommendation, we are looking into Maria Nguyen, a make-up artist out of San Francisco. http://www.cosmeticgirls.com/ We still need to check on her availability and prices, but hopefully it will work out!

That's about all that is new here!!! Hope you enjoy reading our initial menu!

That's one of the things I love about this board... Hi everyone!

I wanted to post a little update... I received an email from Donna at the Alpine Creative Group out of New York City to let me know that our 70 Save-the-Dates have shipped and should arrive at Eric's work tomorrow!!!! :dance3: :yay: :woohoo:  :cheer2: Can you tell how excited I am?? That means I should be able to send them out by the end of the week! YAY!!!! FINALLY!!!!

In order to send our Save-the-Dates, we needed stamps... and my cousin had the coolest stamps ever for her wedding invitations- pictures of herself and her husband (at the time, fiance) So I took our sample Save-the-Date to the post office last Friday to weigh it so I could order the correct stamp value from zazzle.com. Those suckers cost 75 cents each to ship!!! :scared1: That's a heck of a lot of money just to spend on mail! I guess it's worth it though in the end. In any case, Eric and I decided to design out own stamps and here's what we came up with:

http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/isz-m.jpg

They actually came out FANTASTIC in person and zazzle was great about processing and shipping. They came earlier than expected!

Also, we secured Rev. Kevin Knox to be our officiant. Eric and I are both Catholic and it seemed like he would do a great job modeling that type of ceremony. Plus, it made me feel a bit better knowing he's had some great reviews.

Finally, I need your help!! After checking out lurkyloo's wedding pictures, I realized how AWESOME orange and turquoise go together... I never would've guessed, so I need your help and opinions. Should we introduce both turquoise/aqua and burnt orange into our wedding as well??

I LOVE burnt orange and the way it looks on its own with the chartreuse and white of the Simply Chic collection, but turquoise/aqua has always been my mom's and my fav color (we always buy clothes in that color because it actually looks flattering on us!) Whenever we see someone in it, we always say to each other "She's wearing our color!!"

What do you think?? Is it appropriate for a winter wedding that's in Florida? Do you think it will match our decor? Any advice welcome!!

Pics of our Reception and Ceremony again...

Example ideas I found of turquoise/aqua and orange...
Cakes:
This one with green and burnt orange orchids around it... I also liked the idea of using the bottom layer to showcase places that mean something to me and Eric (Golden Gate Bridge, Santa Clara Mission outline, etc...) but I haven't thought much about cake styles just yet

http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/cake2.jpg

http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/cake3.jpg

Dresses: Aqua/Turquoise with Orange flowers (except my BM would have floor length)
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/Aquadressesorangeflowers.jpg

Example signature drink:
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/drink.jpg
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you think it's too many colors for a wedding to have with an all white backdrop with chartreuse floral accents, burnt orange AND aqua/turquoise?? Too spring/summer? Do they clash??

I have no idea if we will go with this idea, but just trying something new and fun! Also, did you notice how the background of the reception pics kind of already have a aqua/turquoise blue glow from the ever-changing lighting? Maybe it's meant to be.... :confused3

WOW! That would be absolutely fabulous! I think cake 2 really suits your couture collection "look" and it is a way to introduce your colors at the reception beautifully. I absolutely think that if you like the aqua/turquoise you MUST do it. This is your ONE big, beautiful chance to put YOUR stamp (excuse the pun) on the somewhat pre-formulated couture look.

BTW, were you able to get zazzle stamps that are $0.75 each? or will you have to use 2 41cent stamps on each envelope? Howard wants to use our original wedding picture in some way and I was thinking of using zazzle stamps for that purpose, and it would be really great if each stamp were for the right postage.

I love that second cake! If we hadn't had our Vaguely Moroccan theme, it would have been PERFECT!

Who says you can only have 2 wedding colors or 3 or whatever it is? Of course I think you should add turquoise, but if you're worried about overdoing it, have that be your Super-Secret Stealth Color. Ours was fuchsia... I didn't want a girly color to be an official wedding color, so we just worked it in as an accent, like in our invitations:

Answer is, it's your wedding so do what you want! Actually I love all the colors you've chosen and as I've had to learn since moving here, you can use any color you want all year round. ( I even wear white before Easter and after Labor Day now :scared1: ) . And your planner should have everything for you to look at so if you don't like all the colors together, you can change your mind. :) Your signature drink looks wonderful and I like cake #3. Different from every other one yet still very pretty and wedding like.

I really like the first cake. Although, I agree that some of the other ones go better with the theming, I'm more sentimental and like the idea of incorporating landmarks from places that the two of you have visited :goodvibes

You should totally add turquoise/aqua/blue! I'm convinced orange is an underrated neutral and goes with everything, especially a burnt orange. (I know you don't have to be sold on the orange, though! ;)) I think the blue would be a lovely accent color. And it is "your" color so it would be extra special for you.

I love cake #2-- so chic! Maybe you could have all your colors wrapping around? And your menu is making me hungery!

I've been following your PJ since the beginning and I can't believe it's less than a year! 2009 seemed so far in the future!

Subscribing to tell you that I think the colours look goregeous together and to tell you that I absolutely LOVE your PJ!! I would love to have a couture wedding, but it's not in the cards... (I like the Enchanted Garden one, but that's just 'cause the explosion of flowers looks cool!)

Looking forward to reading about more of your adventures!! :)

I lurked on your thread before my wedding and then I just caught up yesterday. I just wanted to chime in and let you know that I think 3 colors are fine and those three colors go GREAT together. White is... Nuetral! so I think you can go with whatever color combo you want. I would just remember the scrapbooking/trading spaces theory: gallon-quart-pint. Have a main color, have a complimentary color and then throw in a splash of something fun!! Proportion is key. ;)

Hi. I've read you're entire PJ. You are so lucky to have a David Tutera. When I get married, which is far off but still, I was looking at the Classic Elegance Collection. (I love roses!) I'm really curious as to how all that works so THANKS SO MUCH for posting this! I've subscribed so keep it coming! ;)

WOW. It just took me about 2 hours to read everything. It sounds wonderful. I'm sorry your FILS are being so rediculous. Your wedding looks like it will be amazing. I am from Southington. Where it CT are you from? I looked into the Marrings when we were going to have a CT wedding. We went with Jeff Hawkins in FL. He was wonderful.

I can't wait to read more. Everything is so different now than when we got married 3yrs ago. There were no couture options or stuff like that. It was intimate or custom. David Tuttera(did it spell that correctly?) was not a part of Disney then either. Mine was pretty custom and cost a pretty penny. I'm still paying. :scared1:

This is so cool. I'm excited to see it all unfold.

Well I have also been following your pj and I am glad to see that things are starting to get into full swing. I must agree that a 3 color combination will work in moderation. Use burnt orange as your main color and accent with the green and then make the turquoise your "secret color" and maybe even dye your crinnie turquoise since it is your color and that could be a secret pop that you can let your mom find out on your wedding day :thumbsup2 .

or use the turquoise as your accent color and the green as the secret color.

Love how everything is coming together so far and I can't wait for more.

I have to go make dinner now because your menu made me hungry

LOVE Cake no. 2!!!!!

And I think it will look great- a three color combo can totally work- I esp. like the idea of a "super secret stealth color". hahaha Mine is CORAL.

I am having mostly pink and white but some lavender accents and the flowers are going to be all lavender, pink and coral (BM flowers, centerpieces, cake flowers, etc.)

Pink (gallon) lavender (quart) coral (pint)

So for you . . .

Burnt orange (gallon) turquoise/chartreuse (quart) chartreuse/turquoise (pint)

:)

Love the color theory here!

I think you're colors are very pretty together! And they'll be great for your wedding! :woohoo: Your cake choices are very cool (the first one you had was my launching point pic for my cake) The 2nd one is gorgeous and totally couture-fitting! And love the MK pics! Paul Looper is the best (he did our wedding and I loved him!)

Our colors are lime green and turquoise, with bright orange accents. DF loves orange, and I think it perks up turquoise really well. Our BMs are wearing dresses in Pacifico: http://watters.com/product.php?coll=wtoo&showid=643, and they're carrying bright orange rose wands. I think the color combo you want sounds beautiful!

Hi everyone!

Thanks for all of your comments with the colors. I still have NO idea what I'm going to do, but I'm thinking today will help me come to a final decision...

because I'm going with my mom, gram, little sis (my maid of honor), and my cousin Megan (one of my BM) to go check out BM dresses today in Connecticut! YAY!!! I'm so excited (especially that I'm home this weekend!) I hope we find something that works! I'm a little nervous about picking the colors, but I'm sure whatever is meant to be will work out in the end.

I went last weekend with my BM Allison and my other BM (DF's sister) and we scoped out a few different styles and designers in San Fran, but really the final decision will come down to today. I'm a fan of Jenny Yoo's Rachel Long dress and one of the long, v-neck styles in the Vineyard Collection.

In any case, we're off now, but I will definitely share what we find! :thumbsup2

The only bad part about today is going to be the day I have to have my initial measurements taken for my actual gown. I've lost 15lbs since Christmas, but it was just the 15lbs I put on at the holidays and I'm still the same size as last time I tried on my dress. I didnt reach my goal, but I still have 8.5 more months to go, right???... oh well... :confused3

Wish me luck!! :goodvibes

I hope your shopping day turned out awesome! I have thoroughly enjoyed your PJ to date and wanted to subscribe so as not to miss anything. I also carry off turquoise and I love burnt orange and chartreuse!! :goodvibes The third cake is the one that pops to me and just looks wonderful. The second cake is beautiful but I would have to have a more "burnt" orange flower for sure, LOL:lovestruc I understand because my car is burnt orange too :flower3:

Well we finally decided on bridesmaid dresses!!!! And they aren't orange at all... actually the orange looked HORRIBLE on everyone, so there was no way I could torture my BM like that!

We're going with Jenny Yoo's Taffetta Collection and the bridesmaids will be able to pick one of three different long styles- a strapless (Katia Long), a strappy v-neck (Mika Long), or a thicker strap v-neck style with ties at the shoulders (Martine Long) as long as they are in the peacock blue color!

That's right! Peacock blue!! It's such a pretty color and I think it will look great with white and chartreuse green.

This is the dress color- Peacock blue:
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/Mika-Long-back.jpg
This is the back of the Mika long style dress. All the long styles I picked have the sash to tie into a bow and are A-line, so they are different on the top, but will still have similar features to look tied together.

Here is my sister and my cousin in two of the taffetta styles. Mika is the dress my sister is wearing on the left and Martine is on my cousin on the right. Actually, the peacock blue color is the same color of the dress my sister is wearing on the left!! It looks brighter in this picture, but it's actually has a black thread through it so the color changes a bit.
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/IMG_1638.jpg

I just think the white and green and peacock blue just naturally go well together and look classy. Plus, I think the color of the blue sort of reflects the "cool-ness" of winter...
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t300/kashmir104/peacock-eye.jpg

Best of all, I think orange looks great against the blue, so I can still use orange flowers in my bouquet, which was all I really wanted anyway! :thumbsup2

Let me know what you think!!!!

The next day was my last day in DL (I had to head back home to CT 1 day before the rest of my family to start a summer teaching job), it also happened to be the same day as the movie premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean II in the DL Park, which was really cool..

Hey I was in DL that same day! My whole family met in CA on a surprise trip for my mom. (We all live very far apart so she LOVES when all her kids can get together at once...especially at Disney, lol) We didn't go to the Pirate premire, but we watched them set it up. Anyhow, small world, eh? pirate:

By the way - Congratulations! I have only got through the proposal post and now have to go to work but I will be back!! :)

Thanks for sharing!! :goodvibes

I didn't think about orange not looking good on everyone, just because it looks good on me, :rolleyes1. Smart move to go with the blue. A friend had peacock feathers in her bouquet and painted on her big toenail for good luck.

I love the dresses and the color. I think orange would be the PERFECT compliment to the blue. It will fit in well with your theme. I think that since the decor for the reception is mostly white, the blue and orange will really make everything POP! Great choice especially for winter!!!

I love the peacock blue. I love blue in general, but that shade will be a nice compliment to the orange. That's good that you're giving your girls options for the style. My BM dress came with a jacket and since it only had spaghetti straps I gave girls the option to wear it or not. Several of my bridesmaids ended up wearing it, so they felt more comfortable in the dress.

Congrats on your engagement and wedding plans! Can't wait to read more.

I LOVE the 2 different blues of the dresses together. Peacock feathers are gorgeous too ;-) and I agree - orange will look fantastic with it (orange is blue's complimentary color on a color wheel).

I cannot wait to see it all come together. It's going to be GORGEOUS!
