Hi

I know this has been posted on many occassions, but I am so wound up with work. Yesterday people were trying to take the mick out of me for liking disney. When I mention the disboards or dis meet I get the most strangest looks.

It does annoy me, considering they have not been for one and secondly they do not have a clue about this board. Many occassions I have mentioned that I have made some great friends on here. I have prob posted more stuff about my personal life than my colleagues at work know.

Oh it does annoy me. How many of you get this reaction.

most of us get it i think :sad1: its a small price to pay for the friendship we get off everyone on here though. ive lost count of the people who have gone out of there way for me on here !!
i almost feel sad that everyone can't experiance the boards like i can;)

I get it too - and that's just from my husband :rotfl2:

My family all think I'm mad. However, I'm lucky as I don't have any friends other than my DIS buddies - and they're all as daft as me ;)

A lot of people i know think we are strange to keep going back to Disney every year but they are usually the ones that have never been at all. As long as DD still wants to go we will go( won't have too many more holidays as a family as she will be off with her friends in a couple more years).

take no notice Michelle, as you know I had this a couple of weeks ago - rise above them, you always have us x

I keep trying to convert everybody, but they just don't want to be converted.

I think they feel sorry me because of my addiction.

Yep I get it too! I try to not let it bother me tho, like everyone else I feel that I have made real friendships on here. When something happens in my life I always think "Oooh I must post that on the Dis!!"

Yup I know the feeling, but then again Ive recommended DIS to so many fellow Disney Addicts and they love it.
So it cant be a bad thing, you can never mock anything until you have a try for yourself.
I have learned so many things from this place, and I love reading TR's,so whatever people may say it will never stop me from visiting this place.:)

Hi

Thanks for your support. Normally it does not bother me, but I got the impression that they also talk and take the mick out of me behind my back. Which annoyed me. They were making out like I was a freak or something :scared: I cant remember what they said though, because I was too angry and upset to stay and listen. A little childish of me, but I was already having an awful shift so I thought it would be better to walk off and say nothing.

Oh well they just dont know what they are missing.

I'm lucky, as most of my friends are Disney nuts too (even though they don't come on here)

Whenever I see my mum, she says, 'What's the news from your Disney friends ?' :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Rise above it Michelle - If they haven't DIScovered its their loss! I love my friends on here which is even funny when you consider I have only met a small few briefly - I mean, how could I possibly count someone like FloridaSun whom I have never even met a real friend? weird I know but I do

I get this from my family and a few people at work. They are generally nice about it but they do like to make a joke here and there which can get annoying.

But I just feel sorry for them because they are the ones missing out!

It's not nice when people poke fun at you, try and rise above it and remember that you have lots of similar friends right here on the Dis :grouphug:

Can your workmates say the same?
I think not.;) ;) ;)

If the poeple you work with have never been then they don't know what there missing, and must be a bunch of sad 'o'.;)
At least on here your not along on how you feel about WDW.
So cheer up and remember your friends are here so talk away about Disney to your hearts contents and know that no one will think you silly or laugh at you. (we might laugh with you but never at you).:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I used to get it a lot from work but it turned from ridicule to people approaching me for advice when they or their friends were going to plan a trip! Suddenly I was the expert they wanted! Naturally I pointed them in the direction of discussion boards like this one to ask more questions.....

DisneyJo

I get it too until they have a WDW question  I know I'll still be reading these boards after our holiday even if I don't have another one booked as I have made some really good friends! Yesterday when I got tagged I was so excited, massive grin etc but DH and DD's just could not understand why it had made me so happy, at least all my DIS friends knew :)

Tell me about it! :sad2:

I have only just joined although have been reading for a long time. But my partner sais that you lot are a bunch of saddos with no friends - he thinks that's why you post on here so much.

I told him to shove it - I have got a lot of useful stuff from this board and it is helping us book our trip to Disney this September. I think that you lot are dead nice and am glad that you are here.

I dont know some peoples perception aye. My dh is bad as me when it comes to liking Disney, but he just can not be bothered taking time to come and post here although he lurkes throughout the day. Anyone see's Gillsfan thats my dh  He loves the site and loves the support and friends I have made.

I don't get this reaction since no-one really knows I DIS. However, I believe that it's probably because they have no friends and they are envious of you.. :)

Perhaps can get the Tag Fairy on them? That'd shut them up.. :rotfl:

I hope you've had a better day today Michelle :flower3:

I don't really get this so much, My work colleagues and friends are all well aware of my addiction but when you dig deep they've all got something 'isane' in thier closet!

Gavin used to think it was freaky but he is now well aware that the stuff I learn from this site is invaluble to a good holiday and of course it keeps me occupied on an evening so that means less nagging time!

Hopefully my partner Stephen will one day come to value what I get from reading these boards. You have NO idea what I had to do to get him to agree to us all going to Disney this September - he was born and brought up going to Spain for his holidays and it was a real stugle to get him to do anything else :confused3

Hopefully he can't tell how much time I have spent on here today - he would have me locked up in the looney bin lol

Strangely, I find the opposite to be true. As well as 'cyber' friends I must have met close to 100 different people over the years at various DIS Meets.
Some of these (the unfortunate ones ;) ) are now amongst our closest of friends.

If you use this community to it's fullest, you will find something that can enrich your life and provide you with a lot of fun at the same time.

I totally agree with you Kevin - I am enjoying so much all the interaction with everyone on here.
You lot are the best !!!

Admittedly you are all "cyber" friends to me at the moment, but hopefully in the future I will get to meet a few (if not a lot) of you guys !!

...My work colleagues and friends are all well aware of my addiction but when you dig deep they've all got something 'insane' in thier closet!Exactly!!! :thumbsup2 For example, my closest friend never uses more than half her annual holiday entitlement - now that is insane!!! I do get a fair bit of stick from my friends but its more because I plan so many holidays rather than the WDW destination specifically. My DS21 has a giggle at my expense about being a part of the DIS community but he's a student so what does he know...?! ;)

Deborah

i know exactly what you mean! it took me 5 years to get my dh to go to Orlando for a holiday instead of the med, it took him 12 hours of being there to start planning about our next trip and which hotel he wanted to stay at, and we hadn't even got to a themepark yet:)

He gave up moaning at my internet obsession when he realised how much info i was gaining for our holidays.

Hey hun,
sorry you had such a bad day the other day:grouphug: All my friends know that if they are my friend then disney is one big part of that, and most of the time it is jealousy that i am still able to recapture the happiness of my childhood in such spectacular fashion. No one understands why i am willing to put up so much cash for what is esentially my main hobby, but when i break it down for them and show them how reasonable it is compared to a package to the med, they calm down a little. I also think that because of my disney loving ways it makes me a more sensitive loving caring kind of person, with a big softy side, and that i maybe wouldn't be such a nice friend without this passion.
then again there are times when i just have to curb my enthusiasm too, although these are few and far between. Love me, love my disney lovin ways i say.
And if they don't get it, or are not willing to accomodate it in me, then they really aren't the sort of person i want to hang around with. Just wait and see till you bring the pics back from August, it will be the green eyed monster for sure.:rotfl:

Jodie, tis true, the person at work who told me that I am a saddo who's firneds live on the internet a couple of weeks ago, never takes all of her holiday entitlement, as it is compulsory that we do so, she normally ends up cramming half days into January and February. Then she switches her laptop on at home !

My DBF knows I come on here, and thinks I'm a bit mad, but also thinks it's nice that everyone is so friendly. He is also glad of all the useful info I pick up, Disney and non Disney related! My best friend knows I go on a Disney forum, but have never revealed to her the full extent of the time I spend on here....she just wouldn't get it :rolleyes1

As to being sad for having internet friends, sometimes I feel closer to people on here than I do to my real life friends.....some people may call that sad or weird, I just think it's cause we all have something wonderful in common.

I get the mickey (do you use this expression in the US!) taken all the time at work, even if I dont mention disney they manage to make it look like I started talking about it ! The usual one is "where are you going on holiday this year HA HA" or "have you got anything planned for your birthday Lisa HA HA"
Most of it is in good humor....I am the only women with 40+ men so I get a lot of stick anyway!
At home I am not allowed to use the F word (Florida!) especially in front of friends!
