Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

4 miles for me in 47:38. A couple minutes slower than my previous 4, but I did a different course...up and over the Ringling Bridge and back. I had to take DD14 to school at 7am for a band trip so thought I'd do something a little different. Wind was wicked at the top of the bridge, and as Angie mentioned, the humidity was thick!

:welcome: Donna, Lisa and Jennifer!

Weather :wizard: to everyone for tomorrow! Looks like it could get ugly out there!

ooo ooo! New week!!

Well Friday I did my 14-miler in 2hrs 36min. Actually, I think it was a bit longer than 14 miles because I tried putting my Garmin on my fuel belt and learned after nearly a mile that it wasn't picking up on the satellite (it read .25 but then picked up a straight line course to add more). Oh well some bonus milage! :cool1:

I stopped by Barnes and Nobles in the evening to pick up another copy of MfM. I have a copy but I wanted a copy to lend out (*clutches own copy*they can't have mine no no) to a friend. Well...they didn't have MfM, but needless to say I spend a good chunk of time in the running section and came out with *ahem*[whispers]six *cough cough* books. hehe :confused3 Don't know what happened there :rolleyes1 Got a Performance Nutrition for Runners book, the Ultra Marathon Man (for inspiration), Hal Higdon's marathon book, Jeff Galloway's marathon book, the Courage to Start, and the Need for Speed. I wanted to have all of these in my running library eventually, I just wasn't planning on getting them all at once  . Oh well! I'll have reading materials and inspiration for a long time to come. I'm thinking of getting Advanced Marathon (or something to that effect) once I have read through all of these, but I figured I had to hold back somehow.

Today was a really nice rest day. I did power yoga with a friend this morning...wow that was a first (i've done yoga, but not power yoga). Then she gave me an hour and a half massage. She used to be a practicing massage therapist, but let her certification run out while she was raising her boys and now just does it for friends. oooo that was nice. I am strangely sore on the right side of my body (neck, dehydrated back over my rib cage, front of my thigh, and calf). That's my stronger side, so I guess I've just been overcompensating with it - ouch! Then we went to Olive Garden (soup, salad, breadsticks rocks!) for a late lunch and then watched An Unfinished Life (good movie). Definitely a great relaxing rest day! Sadly I didn't get to go to the running store since this took all day, but I can go next weekend. I need to get some new shoes and another fuel belt/water bottle/hydration pack because it's getting hot and I dont like having to carry an extra bottle (it bruised my side ouch!).

Hope all is well and happy training!

Evening folks, got my LR in today, sort of. The weather was gorgeous today - it made a great change from all the of the snow we had dumped on us recently!

I opted to try a new route today for some variety. I have a book of hikes throughout Calgary that I picked a 4 mile route out from. Unfortunately the battery on my Garmin died at the very start of my run. I couldn't exactly follow the route map because some of the pathways were just not good for running (very narrow and steep) so I had to modify the run a bit and only wound up running 3.4 miles. Oops. I ran it in 40:27, so not quite my best pace. Still, the run felt great and I tackled a huge hill.

Tomorrow I'm helping direct runners at a local half marathon. Should be fun. Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend!

Just stopping by for a quick update. Training this week was not the best. On Thursday I was supposed to do 3 miles and ended up stopping after 2 because of a horrible cramp in my side. This keeps happening to me and I plan to spend some time this week doing a little research in an attempt to figure out some ways to prevent it/run through it. Yesterday I did 4 miles, but at a much slower pace than recently. I am really amazed at how much slower I am on the TM! I kept thinking I would be faster without wind, hills, etc, but I think all of those distractions actually get me moving faster. I am really looking forward to getting outside this week as the weather improves and DH's days off correspond with my training days. (My DH works a very weird rotating schedule and I have to go to the gym on the days that he works so that I have someone to watch the kids. Every other week I get to do most of my training outside.)

In other news, I found out that DH will be going back to night shift (not his choice) and I am pretty bummed about it. He was on nights for over 5 years, but we just got a taste of the good life because he has been on days for the last 6 months. We knew that he might get bumped back to nights, but I am still really disappointed. Oh well, I'll just be hoping that he can go back to days in December.

Have a great week everyone!

Stopping by for a quick hello.

The rain has started here in Boston and every once in a while big snowflakes will mix in. They say the brunt of it will be over by tomorrow morning so as of right now, they (the royal they) are predicting wet and windy for the start of the marathon tomorrow. In the project management lingo, this is a known unknown. We know it will be rough; we just don't know how much.

Angie: thanks again for the nice word on the siggie! I originally just wanted something in my sig and couldn't think of anything so I thought of putting my progression in. Then I started adding the smilies. It's become something I look forward to each week. 3 weeks from now is the Minnie. I'm going to have to think of something else for my siggie after that!

After yesterday's effort, today will be 30 minutes on the bike with light resistance. Just enough to loosen up the legs. Allergies are kicking in for all of us here which is so not fun!

Have a great day everyone!! For those in races this weekend, let us know how it goes!!!

Just popping in to say that our first 5K was this morning, and it rocked! So much fun. :thumbsup2

I posted my race report on the other thread, for those who are interested. :)

Going for a nap now, but I'll catch up with y'all later on this afternoon.

TXAng - Great job on beating your time, like you I beat my expected time by nearly 5 minutes in my first 5K.

Nice buns, too! (on the shirt, that is)

Hi WISH Team!
I've got good news to report. I've managed a pretty successful training week last week and I am glad that it is all coming back. I must confess though that I really don't like going out and doing the exercising. What I like is coming back after I've finished.

I got my long walk in today. It's the longest I've gone in one shot since starting this whole thing (5 miles) and I did it without really thinking about pace or anything, just working on finishing. It took me a looong while to get to the end, but I eventually made it w/ a 19:30 min/mile pace.

I also realized I jumped up my mileage a lot this last week (from 12 miles to 22!), so I'm going to ease up next week. I'm not feeling any negative effects (Except one tiny blister that shot up today and achy feet around mile 3.5), but I also understand the need to pace yourself. I'm aiming for about 14 miles this next week, but with some speed training thrown in. So, we'll see :)

I have to say, I am super jealous of all of you doing the Minnie. I wish I didn't live at pretty much the furstest point you could get from Orlando and still be in the contental US. I will be cheering you all on from way over here though, I promise!

Hi,

It is official, dh and I are registered for the CDC! I am walking but not as much as I should. Those of you in the midwest know what the weather did to us. It totally bummed me out. BUT, today was better. 60 degrees! :thumbsup2

I took the kiddos to the zoo. We walked tons. Not a fitness walk, but at this point I count everything!:rotfl2:

Just a quick I am still here. I hope training for the Minnie and Pig is going splendidly for all. I will have to get back around here more often once training starts for the CDC or I will never make it!

Take care,
Maggie

Hi there, everyone. :wave2:

I haven't been around much for the last couple of weeks...travel during Spring Break and good ol' LTO.

Training has been spotty, and I'm getting nervous about it. It's only 3 weeks 'til my next event (Frederick Half Marathon) and I'm just not feeling 100% ready. {{sigh}} Oh well. Maybe a break in the weather will get me in the groove.

Would love to spend this evening Dissing, but can't. DH and DD have the flu. Don't know how DS and I are avoiding it, but I'm not complaining.

Time to rest. Did 10 loads of laundry today and needed 5 hours to pay the bills and balance the check book. I swear, these last few days, it feels like all I do is drag lead through sand.

Sorry to vent. I'll end this pity party now.

Good work on expanding your training, although that jump was pretty big. You would do well to take a week with lower mileage to help your body recover. When I trained for my half recently, I followed weeks that were new highs with a lower mileage week before building up again. Just remember to treat your body right.

Coco: did you rescue a golden retriever? My parents rescued one that was from Nebraska (they live in CO). Apparently the dog was chained outside in a junk yard for it's entire life and neglected for the most part. They've had the dog for 1 1/2 years and the dog is 6 years old. This dog has been my Dad's "savior." Mom says it's the best thing that's happened to Dad. Bailey makes my Dad have to go outside on walks, brush him, feed him and generally take care of him and get out of his chair. That's worth gold!

bekkiz: great job on the LR!!! :thumbsup2

KelNottAt: sorry to hear 1/2 the fam is sick! Have fun playing the Florence Nightingale routine!!

Angie: kudos on a great run!! Woo-hoo!

Lily: awesome job on getting back into the routine!! Glad to have you back.

It's raining pretty good here now. It's supposed to keep up all night. I did 30 min on the bike at a fairly easy pace considering yesterday's effort. Tomorrow morning I'm with my trainer and it's a holiday. Maybe I'll read a book and watch some of the marathon.

Have a great evening everyone!

Red Dragon (Martha) - Yes, I did rescue the Golden in the picture. Her name is CoCo and is the second rescue dog we adopted. It is twice as rewarding knowing the dog we adopted needed us more than we needed her. Although for me, she came along around the time my teenagers stopped wanting to do things with me.

Goldens are wonderful dogs, but they often want to be doing something with you...just like your dad's Golden. Goldens are not for the casual owner who just wants a dog that they chain up, they are love-puppies and attention hounds! I often take her to the local dog park where she spends more time socializing with the other people rather than the other dogs.

Hey, we have a Golden also. She is 7 1/2 and LOVES to go running with me. Sometimes she even gets a walk with DH. Just this afternoon DH was playing fetch with her. I have never had a dog that actually returned with the item so we could throw it again. She is an AWESOME dog and oh so gentle with the girls. They sit on her, lay on her, pull on her cheeks... nothing from the dog. GREAT GREAT DOG!

Just had to get my two cents in.

Training Report!!

Did 9 for LR run today and was a huge accomplishment considering the head on full force wind for the first 4.5. :yay: Of course on the back half the wind was at my back, so I guess that helped a little. Did it at 9:30 pace, ok considering I only ran once this week, not including my pathetic attempt yesterday. MINNIE is only 3 weeks ago, would love to really pump up the training the next 3 weeks, but Graduation is only 3 weeks away too, so we will see what happens.

Hope everyone's training is going well.

bekkiz - Great job! It's great to be ahead of your curve isn't it? Glad to hear your loving your Garmin!
Angie - I have seen chiropractors for several years now and just like any other health practitioner you should do your homework: ask questions about treatment plans, their schooling, background. You can even check out the Florida Dept. of Health website under chiropractic medicine and check to see about their licensure. I've had both positive and (not really negative) so-so results, but it really has to do with their own individual school of thought regarding spinal manipulation. Ask your chiro to be to map out a plan of treatment for you and see if it is something your comfortable with. Good Luck!
Becky - I hope you have not injured yourself seriously, you might want to get it checked out if you can. Pixie dust heading your way!
Martha - Sounds more like a Steeplechase than a training run! And I'm loving my new recumbent bike, I had to look up at the monitor from my book now and then to check it was still on, it's soooo quiet!
Laurie - Great Run! Thats sooo cool you ran into a fellow DISer, just out of the blue!
Jackie - WOO HOO...NO PAIN! Here's to hoping that chapter is behind you!
Sunny - Pixie Dust to you and prayers for your injection holding out for awhile! "You're only 43?" he said? You should have taken him out for a "gentle" 10 miler. But kudos for you doing Mickey in '08...I'm soo jealous.
Judy - Glad to hear you don't have stress fracture, but Sinus Tarsi Syndrome stiil sounds painful. Hope orthotics work for you! "...patients do poorly on uneven surfaces, i.e., grass and gravel." Not to mention on and off ramps at WDW!
Bill - Wow, Timmy's already getting in 5 hrs of sleep at a time! Great effort on getting in some training!
Jennifer - Welcome to Team WISH!
Kiena - It's still a great job for getting out there and getting in 7 miles. Don't be too hard on yourself for having an "off" mile...you still did an AWESOME job!
Lisa - Welcome to Team WISH. Not only did you ran a race (still getting out an running a 5K by yourself is a race), but you won! Celebrate! You did a GREAT job!
Mel - Awesome job getting in 4 miles. With the air that thick, it probably felt more like 5.
Claire - B & N for some new reads, Olive Garden, a 90min massage? All that's missing is a Big Gulp of Diet Mt Dew, Bare Naked Ladies' Rock Spectacle, and a hammock and you have my perfect day!
Maggie - Woo - Hoo another DISer in the CDC!
Leana - Hope everything at work is going (or going to get)smoother for you. Sounds like a fun training, even without your Garmin. I love to hike, and I probably would have stopped to take some pictures.
Richard - We have a Golden, too. We named her Belle. I wanted to name her Lilo (even though she acts more like Stich) and she is our furry cruise missle. She is sooo cute and soooo good with ourDD 11 who has special needs. She was a gift from a breeder (long story). We also adopted a rescue dog. Our other is Casey, a border collie/chow mix that is more like the DW and my dog. She like our kids just fine, but prefers to cozy up with us.
One of my DW's favorite saying is "Rescuing a dog may not change the world, but you will change the world of that one dog."

Training Note:
Early last week, I felt sooo drained and tired, sore, irritated...that I may have overexerted myself. I HAVE lost a lot of weight, but I may be trying to do tooo much as of late. So I did back off of my "formal" training. I did do XT by doing manual labor, but stayed off of the TM until Saturday. Biked 30 min Friday on my new recumbent, TM 2 miles of brisk walking and 3 sets of dumbell/balance ball work on Saturday, and a cardio DVD tonight, ALL after working. I'm going in tomorrow night from 11pm-7:30 AM for OT so with the weather being nice (cross my fingers) I will get out for a brisk 4 mile walk (maybe do a little running, maybe) before I have to sleep. Then I have the rest of the week until Saturday off. Whew!
Good Luck and Happy Training!

Quick training update - I'll catch up with everyone tonight after work...

I ran 3 miles on the TM this morning. It was truly the best run I've ever had. The only reason(s) I'm not still running are (1) I have to go to work; and (2) reason took over and convinced me that my body probably wasn't up to running 13 miles on the TM yet! But I really did feel like I could. I took one walk break during the first mile, then when the TM hit 1.0 I started running and ran the rest of the way! I RAN FOR 2 WHOLE MILES WITHOUT STOPPING! So to celebrate...

I JUST REGISTERED FOR THE HALF!!!!

Be back later...

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

I did my 14 mile LR on Saturday! It was a tough, tough run. I knew there was a big hill, but I didn't realize just how big and long it was. It was one of those things where when you drive it time and time again in a car, you think it's flat but it's really not. When I downloaded the info from my Garmin I learned that the first 7 miles were all uphill and I gained 700 feet in elevation - 700 feet in 7 miles!!! It was a 7 mile hill! My legs were dead after that. Then you go down the hill, and I lose those 700 feet in the next 1.5 miles. By the time I got to about 10-11 miles, I was just wanting the run to be done. It wasn't a stonker run, just a really hard run. My stats were 14 miles, 2:28.08, 10:35 mpm. That was my last LR before the Pig, and I definitely think I'm ready for any hills on the course in Cincinnati.

I posted a link to my running route I mapped out on the "America's Running Route" site. Take a look if your interested - make sure you look at the elevation map below (you might have to wait a little for the elevation map to load).

http://www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=121093

In addition, we had a great, great overnight trip down to the lake. It felt so good to just get away and get out of town for the day. The hotel was great, we all swam in the pool, had a great dinner Friday night, and all watched a movie before going to bed. Saturday morning, I followed my normal LR routine, got up at 5am, had coffee and an energy bar. I sat in a really comfortable lounge in the hotel lobby. One of the hotel workers even brought me a paper and turned on the fireplace for me. I was on the road at 7am, and back to the hotel after my run at 9:45a. We asked for a late checkout, and were able to go for a swim when the pool opened again at 10:00a. That felt soooooo good on the legs.

OK, we're getting snow now. I hope everyone in the northeast doesn't get too socked in with snow. Have a great day everyone.

Holy cow, Dave! That's quite a running route. Yeah, you're going to kick my butt on the hills for the Pig. I have a secret--shhhh, I can't say it too loud: I've done little to no hill training for the Pig. :scared1: Is there any way I can tie a rope onto you so you can drag me up the hill to Eden Park on the course?? :)

Richard, Jen, Andrew: it's so wonderful to hear your Golden Retriever stories! I grew up with Goldens and when DH and I met, he claims the only one in my family besides me who liked him was the golden retriever! :rotfl: OK, that is kind of true, but the other family members came around. Dad found a dog park where he can take Bailey and the dog LOVES his time there. I also understand that when Dad is not around, Bailey pines for him (according to Mom). Bailey also knows the sound of Dad's car and of course Dad greets Bailey first when he gets home! Mom ranks a distant second :lmao: !!

Angie: way to go on the LR!!! :cool1:

It's raining and windy to beat the band. At times it sounds like a freight train coming though. Glad I'm not out in this today. I was supposed to workout with my trainer but she cancelled. That's OK with me as it seems some allergies have kicked in (that's my story and I'm sticking to it). Feeling a bit under the weather  but not too much.

It's a holiday here. I'll run some errands and try to get to the fitness center if I feel up to it. Or I might not as the mood takes me.

Have a great day everyone!!

Good Morning WISH team!!

Lucky for me, schools are closed here today due to the storm. It is a good thing, because I don't think I would have made it to work if I had to go. It is crazy here...many towns are in a state of emergency, with people being evacuated. Thankfully, my complex is safe and not flooded. Most roads are flooded, so it would take forever to get anywhere if I did need to go out. Good thing, I went to the supermarket on saturday to stock up for a few days, so I am all set. Bad news is that they are saying that all the local rivers have not even crested yet and probably won't until later today...which means the flooding is only going to get worse!!! This is the worse storm I have seen in my lifetime (which incidently is only 32 years!) but still getting over 8 inches of rain in 24 hours is crazy...and it is STILL RAINING!!!

To all those still in the path of this storm, please stay safe and don't go out if you don't really need to!

Judy--How are things up your way in Westchester??? Hope all is well with you and you are safe and sound!

RedDragon and Tiberius- Let's hear it for the rescue dogs! My lab mix rescue turns 3 today, and I don't know what I'd do without him. Luckily, we got him when he was approx 4 months old, so he didn't have to wait too long for his forever family.

Kristi- If you don't mind me asking, which charity did you go through for last year's DL half? Did you have to raise a ton of money, and did they pay for your airfare? I've been thinking about doing that for this year's DL half, but I'm really bad at asking for donations.

Did 4.0mi on the TM this morning. Not great, but it's done.

Have a great day!

Matt - You're da' man!

Jackie - Congratulations for registering for the half, it's hard work, but alot of fun.

I did a short workout yesterday, I only rode the bike for 45 mins. I've been walking on my tm every day for an hour, so I took it easy yesterday.

Hey Everyone! First thank you Lisa for your help. I have sent you a detailed PM.

Matt - congrats on the triathalon :thumbsup2

Angie - Wow! You are gonna do awesome at the Minnie!!

Dave - Congrats on the 14 miles!:woohoo:

For all the WISHers in the NE, did you get any sleep last night?? I thought my roof was going to blow off. I was in FL for Hurricane Andrew and I do not remember the wind sounding that bad! The rain has stopped here on Cape Cod and I am hoping those poor marathoners are doing ok.

My leg is feeling better, but still not great, so I am going to take today off and try for a short R/W on wednesday. We shall see!

Mel – Nice 4 miler!

Claire – Way to go on the 14+ miles!

Leana – Did you have a good time at the half?

Meghan – Bummer about DH! Is there a chance that he could go back to days permanently at some point?

Lily – Glad you got some good training in!

Bekkiz – Wow, that is a huge mileage jump! Taking a lower-intensity week sounds like a really good plan.

Kelley – Hope DH and DD recover from the flu quickly, and that you and DS keep avoiding it!

Angie – Awesome LR!

Jackie – Yay for running 2 miles straight!! Great job! Glad to see that you’re doing the Half, too.

Dave – A 7 mile hill? Ouch! Great job on the run!

Matt – WTG! Can’t wait to hear about the race.

Richard Thank you so much for the advice. Although I'm doing tons of reading on long distance walking and training, I really like having real people tell me what worked for them :) Please feel free to advise me anytime :lmao:

Martha, Andrew and TXAng Thanks for the encouragment!

Angie Great LR, even w/ the wind issues :)

Jackie Yeah for registering! I still have not done it, but I will :) I'm so excited to have such a big WISH crew out there.

Dave Holy cow, that's quite an LR. You're going to be so well prepared for the big one!

Matt Yes you are :) Congrats, can't wait to hear more!

Greetings Race Team -

Congratulations to Robert Cheruiyot! In that rain, no less! :woohoo:

I'm hopelessly far behind, and I do intend to catch up later today, but just stopping by to say I had a lousy six miles Saturday. Charlie wanted to do the 10K course he did last year, so I said I would too. He told me just to follow the arrows. OK, No prob. Except they had all faded away...so I kept going and going and going, knowing I was supposed to make a turn somewhere around here.....then I see a "Welcome to CT" sign and I knew I was in trouble. Not really, because we both had our phones, but it was kinda funny. :rotfl:

Anyway, the course was nothing but perpetual hills. If I wasn't going up one I was going down another. I have to say, though, that my legs, my quads anyway, felt very strong. Too bad my ankle and arch of my foot were killing me! I was exhausted at the end though. I usually don't want to curl up and have a good cry after a L/R, but this time I really felt like it.

Today, even on Advils, my ankle and foot hurt. I see the podiatrist Wednesday.

So today I thought I'd try to do the right thing and wear my uber-expensive custom orthodics for my dress shoes that I got three years ago and never wore. Did you ever see that movie "The Birdcage"? Remember when the housekeeper puts shoes on for the first time and he's trying to make dinner? That's me trying to walk around the hallways at work. I went in the ladies room and took them off, before I fell on top of somebody's desk and made a complete fool of myself. :rotfl2:

Oh I forgot to say, my pace on Saturday was just enough to keep me from getting a free ride on the "Minnie" van, but that's about it.

(Insert big sigh here.)

Yikes! I am sooo far behind!!!! Behind at work, ontaxes and now here. :( Ugh.

OptiMike - :lmao: 3-legged race!

Matt - Congrats on being a triathelete!!!

Amy surfaced at a race?? We miss you!!!!
Good News: Completed my 10-mile. Minimal leg pain during and none after. Woo hoo!

Bad News: I felt like I darn near killed myself to keep what I thougth was my "easy Pace." :(

Now that I know my leg will go the distance, though, I'll be working on speed again.

Quick drive by:

Did my Patriot's Day 5 miler:

171/183 Sunny 43 F 21/25 F4049 BURLINGTON MA 54:02 10:49

Seven minutes slower, 12 pounds heavier than last year-- oh well, I did it!

I ran with a nice woman who pointed out a huge tree that had crushed a car right on Mass Ave in Lex. Ctr. We thought we were DLF because the cruiser was on our Butts for the first 3 miles, then he passed us!

The good news, though, is I didn't push at all and was able to chat the whole way without being winded. So my current road pace is a bit faster than I thought.

I'll catch up will y'all soon.

I had to pull rank and take control of the TV for the marathon today:thumbsup2

Hmmm, if the short legs aren't onthe right side, we'll have to do alternating half circles down the course...:rotfl2:

Carry-- I'm sorry your run was hard. Hopefully, it's just one of those stonkers that sneak up from time to time.

Matt---:cool1: Congrats! Can't wait for the report.

Judy-- take care of that ankle.:wizard:

Leana – Did you have a good time at the half?

Yes, I did wind up volunteering at the Chinook Half Marathon this weekend. My SIL and I made sure the keep the walkers and runners on the correct pathway, and we made sure to cheer for everyone coming by. The weather was great and we had a blast encouraging them and cheering them into the finish line. Then we were rewarded for all of our hard work with a brunch buffet at the Sheraton with all the participants afterwards. The race was a pretty small one, but I will probably add it to my to do list for next year. The participants got an engraved dog tag instead of the usual finisher medal, kind of cool.

BTW - Your Bun Run looked like so much fun! Congrats on your first race. I loved the t-shirts.

Yay for all of you rescue dog owners out there. My westie, Finlay, is a rescue too (from the Austin Westie Rescue Society). He was an owner surrender who was just about to turn 4 when I got him almost three years ago. I think his previous owners mistreated him because apparently he bit the wife of the couple. I brought him home and he has been nothing but loving towards me. I still have to be careful when he meets strangers, but once he realizes that they aren't going to hurt him he really loves his people. He has so many good qualities I can't imagine what they did to him, but now he loves to give kisses and snuggles in for days when we sleep in. When people come to visit as soon as he wakes up in the morning he wants to run and say good morning to everyone.

I'm new here. I'm confused about this thread. There is a new weekly thread each week? Do you guys just share about your training throughout the week?

I have been a walker, putting in around 25 miles per week. DH took up running about a year ago after some health scares and just finished his first half three weeks ago. It motivated me and I have decided to start running. We have signed up for RFTT and it will be my first race.

I'm in week two of a 13 week walk/run program. (The book is The Beginning Runner's Handbook.) The program will transition me from walking into running.

Last week was a breeze and I almost felt guilty - like I wasn't doing enough, but today about killed me. Today I did 3.54 miles and my pace was 12.26. (I'm using the Nike+ thing.) I was alternating running two minutes and walking two minutes. I'm getting over a cold so I hope that was what did it for me. I'm gonna stick with it, though!

I also struggle with my weight, I'm usually going up and down within five to ten pounds. It doesn't help that I'm extremely short. I'm hoping running will help keep me in check. Right now I would like to lose five pounds before our cruise in late May.

I would love to be a part of this thread, I think it would help motivate me. Besides DH I don't have any friends who are runners.

Thanks!

Welcome Shan! Yup, new thread every week. Just share your training info (good or bad) with us. You'll note that we tend to get sidetracked a bit, but that's the general objective. ;) The suppoort is amazing. PLus, when you want to give up, there's aleways someone who just overcame something or stuck it out that inspires you to do the same.

Carrie – Glad your leg isn’t hurting after your 10-miler!

Leana – Hey, free food is always a good thing! I’m glad to hear that y’all had a good time.
Yes, the Bun Run was a lot of fun. We had debated between a couple of races for our first 5K, and really, it was the cool t-shirts that helped us decide on this one. :)

Time to catch up with everyone:

Mel--nice job on your run, despite the wind and humidity.

Claire-I would love to hear what you think about those books after reading them, especially Hal Higdon since I am following his training program for my half marathon.

Meghan--sorry to hear about your DH's schedule change, hopefully it can get changed back real soon.

Lily--WTG for getting back into your training! Glad to hear you had a great week!

bekkiz--Wow, that is a huge jump in mileage for one week...be careful not to increase too much in order to prevent overuse injuries.

Maggie--That's cool that you signed up for the CDC, wish I could make the trip out there, but just won't be able to do it this year..oh well!

Kelley--I hope your DD and DH are feeling better soon! Hope you can get back into your training real soon.

Angie--WTG on your LR!! You are going to do AWESOME at the Minnie!!

Andrew--Hope you are feeling re-energized soon! Make sure you listen to your body and don't overexert too much.

Jackie--WTG for registering for the half! You must be soooooo excited!!

Dave--Nice job on your 7 miles! But what a hill that you had to complete!!! YOu are going to be so ready for the Pig!! Keep up the good work.

Martha--Hope you are feeling better soon! :wizard:
Enjoy your holiday!

Matt--that's awesome! Can't wait to read your race report.

Judy--sorry to hear you had a tough run on saturday. Hope your foot is feeling better really soon. :wizard:

Carrie--WTG on your LR! Glad to hear that the leg pain was not too bad!

Sunny--WTG on the 5 miler today!!

Leana--sounds like you had fun working at the half marathon!

Shan--WELCOME!! to the boards!

To anyone I missed, SORRY!! Hope everyone in the NE is staying dry!

Hey WISH Team!

I just updated the calendar sticky thread. Please check to be sure your info is correct.

Welcome to Shan! Great that you've found this wonderful group!

Sunny, I'm jealous that you got to watch the marathon. I hope you survive the week with DS and his vaca. Sharing of the remote is not fun.

Leana, congrats for volunteering for the event. It is a great thing to be able to do this for folks. We all know it means a lot.

I've got physical trainer day today. I love this day! I'll try to catch back in later. Keep movin' everyone.

Shan: :welcome: As Carrie said, we can get sidetracked but it all goes with the training. Advice and support are what we're about.

Sunny: congrats on your 5 miler!!! :thumbsup2

Leana: oooo, a Westie rescue! I love Westies although I've never had one. I think they are such sophisticated yet unpretentious dogs. But that's JMO. Give him a pat on the head and a biscuit from me! All the pets that DH and I have had have either been adopted from shelters or found on the side of the road (a whole other story). Our two current kitties were adopted from the most wonderful shelter. I love the moniker "forever home." We're proud of our pets (can you tell!?!).

Judy: keeping my fingers crossed that you get help from the podiatrist. Is it a sports podiatrist you are seeing? Love the story re: orthodics in dress shoes!! I don't think I could fit my orthodics in my dress shoes.

Becky: slept like a baby. However when I woke up this morning, the cats were hunkered under the covers and when a branch hit the air conditioning unit, one of them made a beeline for under the bed. So I don't think they slept too well!! It seems to have calmed down a little here but the rain is supposed to stay for the rest of the week. What fun!!!

So my trainer cancelled on me today so I did a 40 min cardio. Watched the marathon while I was doing the cardio and that was quite inspiring. Tomorrow I walk and lift with my walking buddy. He's doing really, really well.

Hope everyone has a lovely evening.

This is totally off topic, and yes, I know pride is one of the 7 deadly sins but . . .

I received a couple of surprise phone calls today and I can update my resume. This fall I will be a Visiting Professor of Finance at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, that's right folks, MIT has hired a kid who was born in Midwest City, Oklahoma. The very same MIT that has a collection of Nobel Prize winners in Financial Economics on their faculty. This is tooooo funny and too surreal. It seems the Finance Division chair turned in his finalized fall schedule Friday at noon, and 4 hours later he lost one of his professors. He made a couple of phone calls to people in the Boston area he has worked with, and one of them told him to call me. I had to consider his offer for about 2 seconds, then I had to consider what Martha would do to me if I told him no. All signs pointed to an enthusiastic YES, which I gladly gave him.

By the way, this is the first group I've told about this. My mother and in-laws can wait. My mother will pass out, and my father in law will think they have made a terrible mistake.

And I still have prep to do for tomorrow's classes. I'm going to be beyond worthless tonight, giggling like a fool every time I think of it. I can always make shadow animals with the projector.

Training? I don't need no stinkin' training! I did bike and lift Saturday, hard work but it felt great. Yesterday I ran 7 miles on the dreaded treadmill, varying the pace and incline, producing 10 minutes per mile pace and about 300 feet of elevation climb over the miles.

And I registered for the Tower of Terror 13K, where I'll run with my lovely bride and many of my good friends. As Bill Murray says in Groundhog Day, "that was a pretty good day!"

Today everyone gets my best wishes!!!!!!!!!!

Triathlete's race report is up! As for training, this week was a "recovery week" as I was sort of mini-tapering for the race Sunday by taking Fri and Sat off. Ended up with 2 hours swimming, 8.7 miles running, and 34.9 on the bike on the week. That totalled 5 hours 30 min, down from 7 hours 11 min last week. Total mileage was 43.6 way down from 89. I should bounce back the other way this week though. I've got a local sprint triathlon on Sat, but planning to put in 5 other days of long workouts as well. Then next week on Sat will be the metric century ride, my furthest ever on a bike! Following week the Minnie double, then a taper week, then back down there for the Ironman 70.3!:rotfl:

Welcome Shan!

WTG Steve on the 1/2 and to anyone else who raced this weekend that I missed....

Biked 20 miles today...I knew I was in trouble when I was going down hill and had to pedal hard to keep a 14 MPH pace...I normally coast at 29 MPH down this hill! WIND WAS KICK'N CHICK'N! I finished in 1:30...not my best time, but I will take it for the wind conditions!

Christa, great pictures! It looks like you had a great time with your sister.

Shan, welcome! Wow, 25 miles of week walking and at a 12-13 mpm pace, you are cruising!:goodvibes

Sunny, good to hear about your 5 miler. It is nice to run a race with someone and talk the whole way. By the way, is that Marathon clippie new???

Leana, good job volounteering (like my Canadian spelling?;) ) for your the race. I would like to do that to see the race in the eyes of a volounteer.

Dave, what a hill. You are ready for the Pig!

Sara, how is your Grandma training going? I read that the no headphone rule will be strickly enforced. It will be interesting to see if they follow through.

Long run (10-12 miles) set for tomorrow, I hope this wind dies down.

First to business, I finally went back to full speed today for a workout...which for me was running for 3 minutes at a 12 minute per mile pace, then walking for 2 minutes at a pace around 18:30 minutes per mile. I don't blaze down the road, but I get there eventually.:) I need to figure out what distances I will run during the as a summer maintenance period to be ready for training for the fall and winter running seasons.

Andrew - furry cruise missle (LOL) that can be so true

Martha - I am told CoCo pines away for me as well, she certainly bounds to the door when she knows I am there. It used to be that I could count on her to be at the door before I fixed my old squeaky brakes.

bekkiz - I don't know if what I have to say counts as advice, after all the only people I beat are the back of the pack runners. Although, I do enjoy knowing that since I can run a steady pace, by the end of the race I always seem to be passing some of those people who overextended themselves too early.

Hi TEAM!! Stephen and I are watching the Boston Marathon that we Tivo'd earlier today. I would LOVE to run Boston someday, sadly I know I'll never qualify, but maybe I can go and at least cheer all the speedies on! On a training note, I ran 5 miles today and the wind was kick'n chick'n!!! There were times I felt like I was running as hard as I could and still I was standing still. My time ended up being 55:00, I know my first mile was 10:49 and my last mile was 10:00, but I don't know my 3 middle splits. I really need to get my Garmin fixed! Hines ran the 5 miles with me, I must have really pushed him as he's spent the past 2 hours laying on the couch.

Craig--Congratulations!!!   That is wonderful news!! We are all very proud of you!!!

Dave--You ran a 7 mile hill??? Yeah, you are ready for the Pig! I am in the same boat as Stephen, unless you call setting the treadmill at a 2% incline, I haven't done any hill training either. ;)

Leana--That's very cool that you volunteered for a half marathon. Was it stressful? I've thought about volunteering for events I'm not running in, but keeping up with passing out the water would stress me out!!!

Martha--I'm very impressed that you got your cardio in on such a yucky day. I have to be honest, if I had a day off and it was pouring rain and windy, I'd spend the day in bed with a good book!

Colleen--Good luck on your lr tomorrow! I have 12 this Saturday and then it's taper time!!! :woohoo:

Christa--Pass on my congratulations to your sister!! How exciting!! I cracked up looking at your pictures! You are going to have to slow your pace down a little bit so we can run together some time! Does your sister have another race planned?

Carrie--Nice job sticking with your run even though it felt less than stellar. Are you still in pain?

Sunny--Congrats on your 5 mile race today! I can't believe you ran in that mess!

Shan--Welcome!!! As you can see, most of us are friends and spend more time talking about life than talking about training! Jump right in!

I know I missed people, but I have to have jump over to the ToT race page so Stephen and I can register. I'm 95% sure that my parents are coming and running as well. I also saw that the Expo is supposed to be open on Saturday as well as Friday, so that's good news for us!:thumbsup2

Shan :cheer2: Welcome to our team these people are AWESOME!! And one (OF THE MANY) encouraging things about this thread is that you get to see that EVERYONE!! has good and bad runs. Just when I feel like I am getting comfortable at a pace and I feel like I'm cruising, I have a run that makes me feel like I have NEVER run before!! You will love it here!!

Craig - THAT IS AWESOME!! It's ok to be proud of yourself, there is a difference in that and being prideful. I am experiencing that right now too. Everything in me wants to run around screaming I'M GRADUATING COLLEGE IN 3 WEEKS WITH AN ENGINEERING DEGREE!! (of course I would include my GPA and the honors I will graduate with) I have felt really guilty for feeling this way, because I am so grateful to even be getting a degree. It's actually kind of ironic, I have my exit interview tomorrow and in my essay I wrote " I am very grateful to be finishing a degree at all because I went from, when I was in high school wanting to go to MIT to 10 years later thinking I would never realize my dream." I am here to say that, that dream will be realized in less than 3 weeks. When you have worked so hard for something and it gets acknowleged, ie - getting to teach at MIT, you can't help but feel like you are going to explode with excitement.

Sorry for the long-winded. No training for me today, but will be back tomorrow.

Claire - Bet Barnes & Noble was happy to see you! I'm waiting on the new John Bingham book to arrive via mail.

Meghan - Sorry about DH's schedule change. My DH worked that weird rotating schedule at his last job 11pm-7am. He quit when they moved him to 6pm-6am.

Bekki - Great mileage, but don't overdo it. WA is a long way from WDW, but NC seems a long way when it comes to trying to do all these races. I'm not doing the Minnie because we have a week scheduled down there in June, and I just can't afford to go in May & June! As for the Half, I'd been putting off registering, and finally this morning while I was running I just decided it was time!

Kelley - Hope the family's getting well. And 10 loads of laundry counts as XT.

Jennifer - Rescue dogs rock! My lab/chow was 4 months old when we adopted her too.

Angie - Great job running with these winds.

Dave - Amazing LR! You should do great in the Pig!

Martha - Hope you survived the weather. My co-workers just couldn't quite grasp why I was so obsessed about the weather in MA!

Laurie - Stay dry!

Judy - Sorry you had such a stonker run on Sat. Hope the podiatrist can help. My pod is the best doc in the whole world!

Carrie - Yea on finishing 10 miles with minimal pain! I was excited to hear that Amy surfaced too.

Sunny - Hooray! You ran today! :cool1:

Shan - :welcome: This group will definitely keep you motivated.

Craig - :woohoo: CONGRATULATIONS! You have every right to be proud.

Matt - You call doing a triathlon "recovery" and "tapering?" :confused3

Leana - I can't believe you have a rescue Westie! DH's first love (before the JRT, Christa) is the Westie. We have friends who have two, and he goes to their house just to play with the dogs. But I won't have any dog that's not a rescue, and I keep telling him that they'll be harder to find. Our friends told us there was an organization just for Westies, but I'm not quite ready for that second dog yet so I hadn't looked TOO hard!

Christa - I can't believe you even tried to bike in this wind!

Thanks. It is too funny, heck they would never have admitted me to their undergraduate, mba, or PhD program.

Yes, I do love Groundhog Day. I also absolutely love the Impressions de France film in EPCOT, and when I see the scene with the balloons and catered lunch in the film, and the voice over talks about their great poet Beaudelaire, I always think of Bill Murray and Andie McDowell in the diner, "you speak French?" "Oui."

Sunny

I didn't know you were associated with MIT. Now they have 2 fanatical but occasionally injured runners at the place. Since this is for fall it doesn't impact my 8 week visit at Colorado this summer. My goal for Boulder is to work a little and train a lot, get fit, and drop some weight.

Angie

I knew you were graduating so soon. That must be so thrilling, and I guarantee you it has an impact on your children. They see what you've done, how hard the work was, and how important it is. You couldn't give them a better role model.

Carrie

Actually its the father in law who wonders about me. Well if you had seen what I looked like and acted like the first time I met him you'd probably understand. Sadly my father passed away 15 years ago. He never had the money to spend a single day in college, but he gave me the opportunity to go where I've gone and do what I've done. Without getting too sentimental, everything I am I owe to him, and the girl I married. They gave me a chance and kept me pointed in the right direction.

I'm so glad you are doing better. You and Martha are going to set fire to that course on May 6. I'm envious, since even with 2 Disney marathons in my record I've not run, I mean run every step, the last 8 miles of the course. Maybe in 2008 I'll put on pink and run Minnie with you 2.

Thank you all. Geez I'm tearing up here. You are really cool running buddies.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I did 4 miles on the TM yesterday in 38:43 min/9:40 mpm pace. I felt pretty good. I think my booty is healed up. It isn't bothering me at all any more. My quads were a little tired/sore from my Bluff run on Saturday, but all and all it was a good run.

Carrie- Just wanted to say I hope your piriformis is feeling better. Good luck with the PT, stretches, and exercises. Awesome job on the 10 miler. So, I missed the story about Amy, did you see her at a race? Did she post and I missed it?

:welcome: Shan- It's always good to have new teammates. Great to have you here.

Sunny- Good to hear from you. I hope your health is hoding up. Your Patriot Day 5 miler sounds great! 10:49 mpm pace is awesome. You're working your way back. Great job. I can't wait to hear how the VT City Marathon goes.

Hi Lily- Hope you had fun with your trainer yesterday.

Martha- You're doing so great with your LRs. I love seeing them increase in your signature. WTG!

Craig- Congratulations on the MIT teaching gig! That's fantastic. They couldn't have hired a more thoughtful professor. We're all proud to have an MIT professor in our midst.

Matt- Nice job on the triathlon. You're making me tired with all that your doing.

Christa- Thanks so much for posting the link to the half marathon with your sister. That was a great report and great pictures. I felt like I was there. You are such a good sis to train with your sister and get her through this milestone. WTG! That's awesome!

Colleen- Good to hear from you too. Good luck with your 10-12 mile LR today. Let us know how it goes.

Richard/Tiberius- Great job on your speed work. I need to do more of that myself. I'm going to try to add some after the Flying Pig 1/2.

Hi Krista- I would so love to run the Boston Marathon someday too. Someday, lifetime goal, right? Great job on your 5 miler in the Kick'n Chick'n wind. You should really consider volunteering for a race sometime. I've done it a couple of times, and it is really fun. Yeah, keeping up with the water can be a little stressful at times, but there's lots of people to help out. It really makes you appreciate the volunteers on the course.

Vic- way to keep on keeping on.

Mel- Great job on your 50 min on the TM. WTG!

I didn't know you were associated with MIT. Now they have 2 fanatical but occasionally injured runners at the place. Since this is for fall it doesn't impact my 8 week visit at Colorado this summer. My goal for Boulder is to work a little and train a lot, get fit, and drop some weight.

Craig

I already dropped your name today! I am surrounded by :snooty: many people who think Disney is for... well... the not so bright. I have to defend myself often. So, I just had to mention my Disney fanatic running buddy who just got offered a professorship at MIT... :thumbsup2 :rotfl:

Angie-- I am taking my daughter to visit UMass today and I am going to make her go to the physics Dept. to see my name on a placque on the wall! That's not prideful is it????? She's not interested in science, math or engineering:sad2:

:rotfl: LOVE IT!!! Yes, I get that too! When you think about it, many of us have master's degrees (and are stay at home moms), Engineering degrees, various medical profressions, (by the way, haven't heard from Dr. Lynne in a while), counsellors, researchers, college professors, etc. etc., and our course, of WISH children are brilliant as well!:yay:

I woke up this morning with a headache and runny nose. Not sure if I will get my LR in today.

Sara, how is your Grandma training going? I read that the no headphone rule will be strickly enforced. It will be interesting to see if they follow through.I am really not looking forward to running a marathon with no headphones but I am afraid that will be the reality of the situation so I am mentally preparing to deal with it. The training is going good so I think I need to do some outside LR's with no iPod to see how it goes.

Craig - Congrats!!!:cool1:

Dave - Glad to hear you're on the mend.

Mel - :rotfl2: about the toenail!! Best of luck on the Minnie:banana: .

Carrie - Glad you're on the mend also. I hope PT goes well today.

Sunny - Congrats on the awesome race time:woohoo: .

Christa - Loved the race reports and pics!!

Matt - Congrats on the triathlon:cool1: . I am going to check out the race report right now.

Krista - I watched the marathon yesterday and it is a mere dream for me also. I did inspire me on my TM run, that's for sure.

I got a new Garmin 205 that I am patiently waiting to try out this weekend. Allegedly it is going to warm up here in frigid upstate NY, so I am hoping for a glorious LR outside on Saturday.

Happy training to all this week and best of luck to everyone racing:cheer2: .

Dave - I thiink it was LAuurie who posted that seh met AMy at a race. I skimmed really quickly, but I know Amy introduced her self to someone. Hoping she might come back to us!!!! Thanks, the booty's doing much better. I had some pain this am for teh first time since the 10-miler. I'm really thinking it's the amount of sititng I don. Especially, as Ias I was doing taxes all day Sunday and MOnday night w/o work outs. Must get off my buttt! You gettign any better?

Sunny - rotfl! Even thought I don't much care for my company, teh VP, my boss and my branch manager all "get" WDW. Scott adn I are in awe of my branch manager who revcently did a 1-day disney trip. 8 am to midnight and hit all four parks! :D Still, irt's taken a lot of courgae fro me to put up a Pooh-framed pic of Scott adn Tigger. My marathon map and screen saver of marathon pix were no-brainers, though.

Craig - Sorry, I got confused by my speed read again. BTW, you and Scott are welcome to come down to Minnie this year. You just have to find your own place to stay. ;) Maybe we should start a support group for teh Minnie weekend widowers. ;)

Also, I just have to say again how much it helps me to hear others say bad things about this year's marathon run. I know it was the heat, but it makes me sad. My screen saver has 06 pix, because I lost the energy fo rpix at mile 12 this year. Plus, the memories are just not that happy of the race. However, I think that will drive me more for next year. I know one thing for sure. I will get some trainign runs in with plan B, wwhere I do a r/w. Introducing teh muscles to that fo rthe first time on race day is tough.

This really is an amazing group. I was just telling someone that I'm a fairly decent-sized fish in my small pond. Around here, though, with everyone's backgrounds, I feel itsy-bitsy. The wonderful thing is that we all add to this group and make it a special place. :grouphug:

Krista - you can do Boston. Anyone can run Boston. You just need to raise thousands of dollars for a charity to do it. Or find an ever-elusive waiver/voucher thingie. Come to Boston someday! I'll be your WISH scream team. :cheer2:

I have been MIA, LTO, etc.
I also have not been training, and therefore not worthy of posting.
(and Minnie is coming up very quickly - ack!)
I will get to the YMCA today though!

I did sign us up for ToT yesterday.
Hopefully, Chad will have a job by then so we can do the race. ;)

I did my longest amount of jogging today (which is still not very much). I only went about 1.5 miles total, and I believe I jogged about 35% of that...so jogged a total of .45 miles (broken up of course :) ). It took me about 25 minutes. Because I was so tired after each jogging segment, it took me a little while to recover, so my walking was a lot slower than it would be if I walked the whole thing.

I had also planned on going 2 miles, and I needed one more loop of the shopping center, but it's so very easy to tell yourself it's ok to head home :) Usually I go on a trail, where how ever far you go out, you have to come all the way back--no shortcuts. This morning, I went on the route I usually take my dog on (1.1) which loops through a shopping center. I did an extra circle (to get to 1.5 miles) but I really should have done a third  It's ok. I still feel good about the outing.

Sort of bummed that the weather will be bad this afternoon, but hopefully I can get more miles in tomorrow!

Have a great day everyone--you are AWESOME  :cheer2:

Hey all, not much to report from me. I am still resting my foot. Last night when I got home from work, I did not flower bed clean up and raking, then later did some Balance Ball work. Today at lunch I will hit the TM (If one is available) for a slower than normal run. This weekend I have an 8 mile training run and I am a little worried about my foot. I hope it gets better soon, otherwise more money out of my disney fund for a podiatrist and orthotics.

Congrats to everyone's GREAT runs. I wish I was with you all on that. I am a little down on my injury and need a big boost... or a no pain day. That would be cool!!!

As for people "getting" Disney. Well my parents used to laugh at us and pretty much make fun of us, but now I think my mom is getting it. We just booked our Summer vacation and decided to go to Disney... my mom said, well I know that is what you enjoy. So she agreed to watch the dog without criticizing us. COOL!

OK, I am super swamped at work!

Greetings all.

My heart goes out to those at VT.... :grouphug: My ex's son went there and we went to his graduation.... It's ironic that one of my impressions of the school was how peaceful I found it to be...

This morning I did 45 min @ 4.0 @ 1%. I feel like I've really taken a step back in my training. I should be doing much better right about now, with the Minnie not that far off. Grrrr. Anyway, I tried the new OTC orthodics in my Kayanos. They annoyed me for the first ten minutes but then I forgot about them. I finished pretty much pain free, but afterwards my foot really hurt. And my ankle now really hurts too. It keeps snapping and that REALLY hurts. Ugh. I see the podiatrist tomorrow.

Missing my Cam very much..:guilty:

MikeOptimator - Nice job on finding an injury no one has ever heard of . Bonus points!
OMG this made me LOL! :lmao: Thanks! Can I redeem the Bonus Points like I do my Disney Rewards?!?! What can I get?? What can I get??:yay:

Sunny - Congratulations on the Patriot's Day race! :woohoo:

Martha - No, my podiatrist is not a sports specific doc. He did two foot surgeries on me already, though, so I know him pretty well. He's the head of his dept at the hospital here and has a great reputation. However, to be honest, I am thinking if this does not improve, I may have to go see Dr Hunka Hunka Burning Love. It seems now to be more in my ankle instead of my foot.

Craig - Oh how wonderful! How absolutely wonderful! :worship:

Matt - I'm worn out just reading what you did. :thumbsup2 Holy cow, man! You're amazing!

Christa - Oh thanks for the pictures! As soon as I finish here I am going to look at them. :hyper: The heck with the reports I should be doing.

Krista - You might be wrong. Perhaps if you set your mind to it, you could run Boston. :goodvibes

Jackie - I see you started running without me....well, even if I'm getting left behind...I'm so happy for you! :cool1:

Carrie - I too agree that this is a wonderful, supportive group. I feel completely unworthy, being just middle management in a totally boring huge corporation. I'm a microscopic fish here at this conglomerate. But hey, it pays for WDW trips, and allows me to DIS all day. OK, almost all day.

Jen - I think we need to sit and put our injured feet up. Perhaps have the pool boy bring us drinks with umbrellas....:teeth:

One short funny story then I have to get to work, after I look at Christa's pictures...

As many of you know, on the ToT13K thread, we had sort of a fun competition to see who would be the first to register. It was all in good fun. So, in order to make sure I was first, I had my IE home page set to that web page so I could see immediately when we could start registering. Well, I checked it yesterday before I left work and we couldn't register yet. It must have changed when I was on my way home. As soon as I get home I have to go out and feed the girls, so I'm out in the barn and I hear Charlie yelling out the bedroom window..."We can register!" Naturally, I'm in my barn clothes and muddy boots so I can't run in the house, but I run down to the window and yell in "GET US REGISTERED - Me first!" So then I finished up with barn chores and came in the house to check the thread and see who else registered and if I beat everyone. Of course I didn't and I kept saying "Shoot, they beat me. Darn, I wasn't first" and I was laughing because it was so silly. Charlie was amused that I can have so much fun with people I don't even know. If you guys really knew me, you'd know how pretty much anti-social I am. I'd much rather be at the barn than a party. I'm not much for dinner parties and going out with friends. Probably because I don't have too many. But with you guys it's different. We have fun, we understand each other, we support each other. So what if we never met. I think it's great.

Jen117

Judy - That sounds like something I would do (DH yelling out the window about registering). Since I am so stressed at work all the time, when I get home I like to just be left alone... but I always come out and chat with the WISHer's. In fact, at my race on Saturday I was talking about the Team and one lady asked where they all were.... um, not here I guess. She gave me a weird look! Hey, I would love to sit by the pool with a cute little pool boy bringing us drinks... where should I meet you???

First, I feel I MUST jump in here and defend my father (Calcio's FIL). OK, so that IS what my Dad thought when we first met and I will also admit that apparently my parents told the whole extended family to stay away from our wedding b/c it wouldn't last (found this out about 10 years after we were married). BUT, since our daughter was born, 22 years ago, Dad certainly thinks very highly of Craig. After all, he contributed genetic material to the world's most perfect grandchild!!! So don't believe a WORD of what Calcio is saying. Calcio: knock it off or you'll be sleepin' wit' the fishes!!!

Christa: great job on the bike ride!!

Colleen: I do hope you get your LR in today. It's quite raw here still and I certainly don't want to be out in it!

Richard: :thumbsup2 on the speed work. Keep at it and it'll work wonders for your pace. I never did speed work until this year to prep for the Minnie but I am amazed at how fast my long runs are!

Krista: kudos for sticking with the run even with the wind. No matter which way I run, it always seems like when it's windy, it's always in my face!

Dave: glad the booty is healed up. Take it easy--try not to hurt it again!

No training for me. My walking partner had to bail, and since my "allergies" are still causing my chest to hurt and feel congested, it probably means I need to rest. But, I'll see what I feel like at the end of the day. I may try to get a quick cardio and some weights in after work.

Happy training everybody!

To all our new WISH team members: :welcome: SO happy to have you here!

I wish I had some awesome training to report, but it seems my 2 weeks of long work hours and the emotional strain that this time of year puts on me have wiped me out. I am now battling what I'm sure is an upper respiratory infection and a sinus infection. Basically, everything from my lungs up hurts, including my teeth. :confused3 Did 4.12 very slow miles on the TM Saturday but nothing since. With only 16 days till I leave for Minnie ( :yay: ) I am really hoping to feel much better soon so I can get back to it.

Since I'll never catch up with everyone individually, I'll do a solo-type post ;)
:welcome: to all newbies!
pixiedust: to all those with boo-boos
:woohoo: to all those with great workouts
:cheer2: to everyone with races this weekend

Richard

Good for you with your speed work. It is amazing what your body will deliver when you train for it. Paraphrasing Yogi Berra, "to run fast you have to run fast."

This was proven to me many years ago when I was a bunch younger. I was hoping to break 40 minutes for 10K and in the autumn I ran a few between 41 and 42, but never got close to 40. Over the winter I did my usual longer training, but I threw in 1 day of speed work per week, doing 400 meter repeats as a pace quicker than the 6:27 per mile necessary to break 40. In my first 10K of the spring I ran easy the entire way, and finished under 38 minutes. All I could say was "where did that come from?"

The tempo work trains your body to run faster, yet still relax. On race day when you go slower than your speed work pace you feel super relaxed, and can carry the pace without strain. It's easy to strain and run fast, but it cannot be sustained. Running fast and easy is the key, and you cannot get there without the speed work.

Plus when you finish a fast workout, man do you feel good about yourself!

Carrie

Most of us think you and Scott are pretty darn special. No other thoughts will be accepted or tolerated.

Dave

You are doing so well after last year's injury problems. I'm really impressed at the distances and times you are turning in.

Krista - While neither my dad nor my dh are perfect, they come pretty darn close. (BTW, I just need that not perfect disclaimer so that I hahve the right to disagree with them. ;) ) DOn't anyone else talk badly of them, though. Storytime: When my parents took me to college, my roommate as there. She was a wearing a shirt htat was the same company my dad worked for. DIfferent divisions and locations, but most of the offices knew my dad, as he was in sales. She had worked there in the summer and her mom still did. After I met her mom, she had to go back and get the scoop on what my dad was like. She just about freaked when she was told how awful he was, because I was so sweet. :D Then the guy started rolling with laughter. :rotfl2: It's really cool to know how well liked your parents are by others, too.

No way - you can't come there!
You'd be the new queen since I am alot slower than you!

And if you did go see them, you would be a fan.
I have taken 3 new people to see them in the last year & now they all love my boys!

Back on topic - I meant to tell you guys...
Brian at work had a voucher to run Boston yesterday and he bailed!
He says he had a "twinge" in his calf. I think he didn't want to get wet. And this guy is the most buff, in shape guy I know - so he definately can do it. He does triathalons and all other kinds of crazy races. I was just so upset so hear that someone who actually had a voucher bailed.
I do have him on the lookout for an extra waiver for Chad for next year.
One of our morning reporters ran Boston yesterday. I know he has a waiver since he gets as much free stuff as he can all the time. I am going to start talking to him somehow...I hardly ever see him, but I better start making an effort, huh? ;)

Christa--Pass on my congratulations to your sister!! How exciting!! I cracked up looking at your pictures! You are going to have to slow your pace down a little bit so we can run together some time! Does your sister have another race planned?

Krista, Dave and anyone else who wants to run Boston...Here is my plan! At my current age, I have to run a 3:45 and that may never happen. However, when I turn 70, if I can just run 1/2 as fast as I do now, I MAY qualify. Lets run it when we are in our 70s!:rotfl:
Sis is thinking about another race, but it is too soon after the fact. She has not forgotten the pain yet.

Kristi - I thought about you this morning...I was half listening to the radio, weaving in and out of the parking lot they call I77 North and I heard the the announcer say...and that was the GGD! I was like WTHeck! I did not even hear what song it was...but I thought of you all tha same.

And finally, I do not sleep with the fishes. Luca Brasi, he sleeps with the fishes. I sleep with a little grey and white kitty.
:rotfl:  :rotfl:  :rotfl: Funny!

Kristi - I cannot believe that. The little twinges are what you listen while training. You run through those for the race. Escpecially Boston. WTH?

Terri - How'd your employee do yesterday?

Hey all... well, I just made an appointment with the podiatrist. The doctor I am getting is runner, so maybe she will be able to help me. My foot is not in pain, but something definately does NOT feel right. Like the arch is swollen or something. It is tender, but not uncomfortable to walk on. So I decided that it's either now or never. I have the 1/2 marathon in 4 weeks and I can't run it the way I am now. Plus, with WDW filling up fast, I need to make a decision.

My gut says this is the right thing to do, but I am still chicken. Why can't it all just go away????

Kristi - I am sure Judy and I can arrange for another pool meeting. I wouldn't mind it, but you have to bring the snacks!

SERIOUSLY!!!! When you spend 6-8 months training for a marathon, "twinges" don't stop you!! My freaking knee felt like it was going to explode all over the marathon course, but I still finished! What is wrong with people?? :confused3 :confused3

Oh, and based on my time now, I'll never qualify for Boston either. :)

Last night I got in 45 min of weight training. I tried out a different Firm video and there were some great moves for glutes and calfs in it. Plus I feel some good tightness in my pecs today so I guess I got a good upper body workout too! Tonight I have a 5 miler planned. I see clouds rolling in so I am cutting out of here right at 4 to get this run in, just in case the skies open up.
Oh, and I have to hurry it up cuz I'm going to see Calgary vs Detroit in NHL playoff action, woohoo!

OK, here is my attempt to catch up with everyone this week:

Claire - wow, that was quite a trip to B&N! I just ordered some books for my mom as she is about to start training to walk her first half. I included MfM, which I haven't read yet, but I'm hoping to get through before I give to her. Ultra Marathon Man sounds super interesting, but unfortunately Amazon.ca doesn't have it in stock. Grrr, the sad thing about being north of the 49th sometimes!
Meghan - Sorry to hear DH is going back to nightshift. Good luck as you keep on with your training though!
bekkiz - It sounds like you are doing great on your training. Keep it up!
Kelley - Hope your family is feeling better and you feel as though you are able to get your training back on track. Good luck!
tiberius - CoCo looks gorgeous! Good luck running in that Houston humidity.
Andrew - Hope you are enjoying your week off. BTW - congrats on your weight loss achievement, that's awesome!
Jackie - Congrats on registering for the half! I actually found quite a few Westie rescue organizations out there. I think it is great that these organizations exist, but it still breaks my heart that so many dogs wind up there. At least we can give them good forever homes. I know Finlay is greatful! But yes, be careful about looking too hard. Once I started casually perusing I think I had a new dog at home within a few weeks!
Dave - What a serious crazy elevation change for your run this weekend. Also sounds like you had a great weekend. Good luck with your taper for the Pig!
Matt - Congrats on completing your first tri! One of my old coworkers has gotten really into tris the last couple of years. Now it seems like she is racing every weekend and consistently placing in her age group. I love reading her blog to see all her accomplishments, just as it was great to read your race report!
Becky - Hope your leg is feeling better. Good luck on your R/W tomorrow.
Judy - Sorry to hear those orthotics in your dress shoes didn't work out for you! As someone who has actually tripped at work (thanks to my fascination with pointy toed shoes with skinny heels that happened to catch on the cuff of my pantleg) I knew where you were coming from.
Carrie - Great job on the 10 miler with minimal leg pain!
Sunny - Congrats on your 5 miler!
Shan - We all have our good days and bad days, but it sounds like you are making some great progress. Good luck as you train for RFTT.
Lily - How did things go with the trainer?
Martha - Doing cardio and watching the marathon, that would be inspiring! Yup, I love Westies too. My family had two growing up. My parents have a Scottie that I have been puppy sitting for a year and a half while they have been overseas and those two are so cute together.
Craig - MIT - seriously? That's awesome, congratulations! You should definitely be proud.
Christa - Your race with your sister looked like so much fun. I think it is a great way to spend time with her. My mom is in, I'm hoping to get some more of my family members hooked on the racing thing too.
Colleen - Hope you are feeling better and that you were able to get your LR in!
Krista - Great run with Hines. AI should be interesting tonight. I read an article on MSNBC that stated that Sanjaya actually had a good chance to win it all. I think the AI franchise would spontaneously combust then!!
Mel - RIP your toenail!
Sara - Congrats on that new Garmin. I love mine.
Jen - I really hope your foot feels better! Here's hoping you get better soon and can make it to WDW.
Cam - Get better soon!
Laurie - Did you manage to stay flood free over there?

Whew! I think I got just about everyone there. I have to say, I am really looking forward to meeting you guys, whether it is at Minnie, ToT or in January. I appreciate all of your support!

Bekki - Great run/walk! It took me a while, but I finally decided I did better if I stopped jogging before I got so tired; then I was actually able to jog more intervals because I didn't have to walk so long to recover in between. (DH argued that strategy with me - he wanted me to jog until I couldn't anymore, but I liked my method better!)

Judy - How cool! Jeff Galloway will be in Raleigh on May 5th for the same thing. I'm definitely planning on going.
My brother owns a bike shop in Roanoke VA, and their other location is in Blacksburg, so we've been to VT too. It feels very close to home.
And I haven't gone far without you. I only did 35 min @ 5.0 @ 0%, so it probably evens out!

Jen - Sorry you're down because of the foot. I definitely relate. You should have heard my voice when I asked the podiatrist "so I can keep running?" Mine fortunately doesn't hurt while I'm running; it's just the rest of the time! Glad you made an appointment - my gut is what made me do it - just thought it was crazy to wait any longer if it was something that could be fixed.
Have you hired an assistant yet?

Martha - It's always dangerous to talk bad about your FIL when your wife is listening! My parents didn't think much of my DH either, but we've been married 19 years, and they're not even around anymore!

We'll just have to be Christa's scream team. HOpe I don't spit out my teeth when I'm cheering! :lmao: :lmao:

Have to add my .02 on why this group is so great. DH was looking at the DVR last night and said "you recorded the Boston Marathon?" (Thanks, Vic, for the tip on where to find it!) No one here seems to think that's strange! I'm with you Judy - I'm not that social, and I'm sure would never carry on a conversation with half of you if we were in a room together, but I can't wait to meet everyone in Jan (or MAYBE October if I can figure out how to persuade DH that we MUST make a 3rd trip this year!) It was so not like me to go to the WISH meet at the Minnie last year, but I couldn't wait to get there!

Did an arm workout this morning; am considering the bike now. (The other option is to cook dinner) Bike or dinner? Me or the family? Since I don't know that there's any food in the house to actually cook... Krista, I need you!

Hey ya'll! Just a quick post to let ya'll know I made it back from WDW about an hour ago--now I'm sorting through 500+ emails! Yuck! We had a wonderful trip and can't wait to go back for the Minnie in 3 weeks!!!:cool1: Unfortunately, I only ran 2 of the 10 days we were gone! Gotta get back into the swing of things tomorrow.

Any big news in the past 10 days????? Will try to read some of this week's thread later!

A quick drive by before I get feeding duty...

I missed the long run on Saturday morning due to a little one who decided it would be better to play than sleep. That and mom looked like she needed sleep so I stayed and rocked. Then that evening it started to look bad weather wise and there was some cloud lightening so I decided it would be better to miss it.

However last night I was able to get 5 miles in with a 10:08 pace. I think that is the fastest I have gone in a while. It must have been from watching the Boston Marathon earlier that morning. :rolleyes1 I did get a 5 minute/mile pace but it only lasted for 30 feet.:lmao:

Timmy is back above birth weight so the doctor is happy. But he has this strange choking type thing that happens only when sleeping. He doesn't actually spit up but looks like something is caught in his throat. Now the doctor is looking to see what it could be and we are trying all sorts of different things. It seems to have gotten better the past couple of days so maybe something is working.

Welcome to all the new members. Good luck with your training and I hope we can be an encouragement to you.

Craig - Congrats on the professorship. Now I can say I know a MIT professor.

:wizard: to all those that have injuries right now.

The feeding machine is calling so I guess I better satisify his pains...

Thanks for all the high fives Leana and Jackie! (And everyone who I might have missed :) )

I snuck in another 1.5 miles this afternoon, while the weather was nice. I tried a different strategy. I "power walked" the first .75 out and did a 2 min walk, 1 min jog interval on the way back. Although my overall speed was the same out and back (around 10:30), I liked that I didn't feel as tired during the running--So thanks for the tip Jackie!

My pace for the whole 1.5 miles was a 14:09 mpm. I'm pretty proud of that. Now, let's see if I can do that for 3 miles :lmao:

Bill That's a great pace, and I'm so happy your son is doing well!

My last one finally popped off as well this week, although it was helped after I kicked the crib in the middle of the night. Lynnda chuckled and was amazed the baby didn't wake up after the yelp of pain.

I went to the Y and only did 3 miles (not the scheduled 5).
1. My garmin was about to die, I forgot to charge it.
2. Tired! And I have done no exercise in a week.
3. I wanted to go with Zack to Tae Kwon Do and if I did all 5 miles, I would not make it.

I was happy that I finished in 35:37 though!

And while I was wogging...I got to thinking (always a bad thing!)...
I could quit work or take a leave and follow the Goo Goo Dolls around the country this summer.
I have all my WISH buddy's houses to crash at! :rotfl:

And then I woke up! ;)

And a moment of silence for Mel's toenail....

Good for Timmy getting his weight back, and even better to hear his throat is getting better. I think by losing just a nail you're ahead of the game as a father of a new born.

It is nice to hear so many people being excited about yesterday's Boston 26.2. My senior who ran the thing was in class today and moving pretty well. He finished in 3:43, which of course made me drop his grade by 2 full letters. He said the cold and wet didn't really bother him on the course, but once he finished and was in the corrals, the long corrals he called them, he felt really cold really fast. He said many finishers collapsed into the waiting wheelchairs for a ride to the heated tents, and he seriously considered it.

Also, he ran with a fellow student, and they went through mile 1 in 6 minutes flat:scared1: . Dan realized that wasn't a good idea so he let the other fellow go, and that darn kid ran 3:10:scared1: :scared1: . Youth is definately wasted on the young. I'll qualify for Boston if I can only get a bit faster between now and my 106th birthday.

Note to all . . . we live in Wellesley, miles 12, 13, 14, and 15 of the marathon course. If you are going to qualify and come to the race along with Krista, and Christa, let us know. We'll support you when you blaze past us.

Seeing Boston in person really is quite a trip, which I heartily encourage. When you watch the elite men go by it's hard to believe that anyone could (1) run so fast at mile 14, (2) run so light, you barely hear them, and (3) run so effortlessly. Actually seeing them makes me feel better about my own running. Yes, they are roughly twice a fast as I am, but those guys are mutants. I'm just your typical middle aged male fighting age and senility.

Best

Judy-I participated in the Galloway program in Hartford a few years ago. It was a great experience. He came to our first meeting. Nice guy.

Aladdinsgirl- Great splits!

Craig- How cool to live so close to the course. My former employer was a division of Liberty Mutual which has a research center there in Hopkinton at the start. That's as close as I'll ever get.

Sorry guys - i haven't had a chance to catch up with this week's thread.

Guess what?! I am officially crutch-less as of today! :cool1:
The Dr.'s office called to cancel my appt. for Thurs. because doc is leaving for 3 weeks in Italy!:scared1: Oh no, I tell the receptionist. I need to talk to him. Once I got him on the phone, he told me I could lose the crutches!
There was no way I wanted another 3 weeks of them. He told me I could ride the exercise bike and swim. No running yet, but at least I can now DO something! :)

My employee finished Boston in 3:42:01. Talked to her today. Said she felt ok, just tired. Gee, I wonder why? I was very proud of her. In those conditions and it didn't seem to slow her down much.

Gonna go back and try to catch up now.

No training for me yesterday, DW convinced me to skip my x-training SWOG so we could go to "Free Scoop Day" at Ben and Jerry's. Mmmmmmm.....

Krista- Wow, fantastic run. I'm so glad you're pain free these days. So it will be You, me, and Steve running together for the Pig then, right?

Bill- good for you for keeping your training up with the newborn. Glad things are going well, and hope the little one's throat thing heals up.

Stephanie- Welcome back. Glad you had a great trip to WDW. We missed you here.

Kristi- Great job on your 3 miler. It's tough when you know you have a time deadline on the other side. Great job.

Jen- I think I found you!

Jackie- Hope you found something for dinner. I must admit our family has done PB&Js a couple of times when everyone gets really busy. The kids seem to like it though.

Terri- I'm so glad you're off the crutches. Yay! I'm glad you can start to get some exercise in.

Hey all, sorry I've been MIA. The life of a very part-time bike mechanic is busy!!! I'm totally loving that job as I'm learning a ton!!

As far as training, I did do a 9.5 mile trail run on Monday. My legs felt ver sluggish and I had a lot of left booty and knee pain. I think I may try to see an ortho as it seemed worse than usual.

Phil and I have had a pretty crappy week! I don't want to go into it all right now b/c it is just too much to explain, but basically it involves recurrent health issues for Phil. We are waiting on some more test result to know more:guilty: At least I can be in denial while working on and selling bikes! !!!

Oh, on a funny note, (and referring to the high level of education and intelligence of our group) there is an 18yo who puts me to SHAME w/ his ability to sell and repair bikes!! Hey all... Nothing new to report, except I am hoping my trip to the podiatrist on Friday will cure all the woes in my body!! :lmao:

Disnut - Well, Wausau Insurance is no more. They were bought out by Liberty Mutual several years ago and layed off about 1000 employees. Just not the same, tho they still use the Wausau Insurance name every once in awhile, I think for the reputation!

Krista - Oh I hear Boston calling your name... Krista, Krista, KRISTA. You get the Speedy McQueen trophy of the week!

Carrie - You can share the trophy with Krista. Way to get back there!!! If my foot would behave, I think I would be back on track.

Carrie--Congrats on your 5 mile time!! That's awesome. I know what you mean about hearing that little voice in your head, I heard it last night too. But mine was in the form of Martha saying "if you want to run faster, you have to do your speed work!". :)

Martha--Thanks for being my voice last night and "making" me run faster than I normally do. If you're confused, see above! :goodvibes

Mel and Christa--

Bill--Prayers for little Timmy!!!! Great job on your 5 miler too. It sounds like the Boston Marathon really inspired us all this week. :)

Jackie, Robert, Leana, Martha, and Craig--Thank you so much for providing forever homes to so many deserving dog and cats. I think that's wonderful.

Jackie--I'll be right over to make dinner! Do you mind if I bring Hines? ;) It's so good to hear that your foot is getting better and you are able to run.

Bekkiz--:cheer2: You are doing so great!! I think your intervals are a fantastic idea. And don't think about the long term, just take it one step at a time.

Christa--I gotta admit, whenever I hear "Baby Got Back", I think about you shaking your booty for your girls! :lmao:

Dave--I would have picked Ben and Jerry's over running any day! What flavor did you get?

Terri--YAY!!! :yay: :yay: No crutches! That's awesome!!

Craig--You have fast students! My mind can't even comprehend a 3:10 marathon.

Stephanie--I'm glad that you made it home safe and sound. Good luck doing all that laundry! That's the worst part of vacation: coming home and facing 100 loads of laundry and piles of mail!

Angie--You need to be very, very, very proud of yourself! Shout everything you have accomplished this year from the mountain tops (like for example, Space Mountain or Expedition Everest ;) ). What an incredible role model you are being to your boys. And on a more serious note, can I say how jealous I am of you for having access to a free tan? I just paid $30 for 100 minutes of tanning. :sad2:

TXAng--Congrats on your 5K!!! That is fantastic!!

Leana--I think you and I would make great friends! I, too, enjoy the high, high heels that are killers to your feet, but look so good with your outfit. AI update: Stephen told me that Sanjaya was voted Maxim magazine's Hot Girl of the Day. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Did you see my girl Jordin rock the house? I love her!

Kiena--Did you get your pirate: to bed? Good luck on getting your yard work done today. Stephen and I need to pull weeds, but the past few Saturday's have either been rainy or cold. This weekend is supposed to be nice. Do you think I'll be sore on Sunday after running 12 miles and then pulling weeds? :)

Colleen--How did your lr go?

Sara--I gotta agree, running without an iPod or mp3 player is going to suck! Good luck on Grandma. That's coming up pretty soon, isn't it?

Judy--How's the foot?

Jen--Thanks for representing Team Wish!! Where's Waldo! :rotfl2: By the way, I will GLADLY accept the Speed McQueen trophy of the week. I'll even share it with Carrie. If I have to. ;)

Andrew--I hope you are enjoying your vacation! I was thinking about what you said about losing weight and now being so tired. Did you lose weight by cutting calories? Are you now trying to run on the same amount of calories that you were eating while losing weight? If that's the case, you don't have enough calories to sustain your body while exercising. 2 years ago I lost 15 lbs by cutting my calories to about 1200 per day. At the time I wasn't running, so it was okay. Now, there's NO WAY I could run 4 times a week and xt 1 or 2 days a week on 1200 calories a day. I just wouldn't have enough energy to keep me going. Try getting 200 or 300 extra calories a day and see if that helps.

I know I missed people, but I've been typing for an hour. I need to get started on my work! I'll be back later. :)

Krista - lol. It was Craig's voice in my, but my Minnie partner Martha that is driving me to keep the goal that I set.

Bill - I hope Timmy's issue gets figured out soon! I can't imagine how scary that would be!

I got my 5 mile run in last night in 56:56 for an 11:23 min/mi pace. Some of the hills around my neighbourhood were kicking my butt, but overall the run was great. The weather was gorgeous and warm - yay for spring! Now between today and tomorrow afternoon we are forecasted to get between 15 to 25 cm of snow. That's between 6 and 10 inches!

Have not had a chance to watch AI, but it is sitting on my DVR at home, so I'll have to watch it once I get in some upper body weights and maybe some abs tonight. I read that a lot of folks didn't do that well this week... The Calgary - Detroit hockey game last night was awesome!! Very tired this morning now because of it. :faint:

Craig -- my 5k partner's son, Peter, finished Boston in 2:48:27!!! Isn't that absolutely amazing? He is 21 and a junior at UD. And an amazing young man on so many levels. I am so proud of him and I've never even met him! My friend said being at "THE Boston Marathon" was an awesome experience!

I was supposed to do 3 miles tonight and I decided to do a 5K instead. I PR'ed my 5K time--31:09!!!!   AND even better, look at my splits:

Mile 1 10:16
Mile 2 10:14
Mile 3 9:36--WHAT??!!!!???! That's my fastest mile EVER!!!!:woohoo:
.10 :55

You have no idea how excited I am!! And even better, I had zero pain in my leg/knee/IT band area. Maybe Boston isn't too far off!! ;) ;) ;) Oh, Craig and Martha do you have a bedroom for me?? :thumbsup2 (In case someone doesn't realize what a joker I am, I am completely, totally, 100000% kidding about Boston! :) )

Krista -- I am so excited for you!! Great splits!

Guess what?! I am officially crutch-less as of today! :cool1:
:woohoo: Terri! Here's lots of pixiedust: for a smooth and quick and pain-free recovery!!

Phil and I have had a pretty crappy week! I don't want to go into it all right now b/c it is just too much to explain, but basically it involves recurrent health issues for Phil. We are waiting on some more test result to know more:guilty: At least I can be in denial while working on and selling bikes! !!!

Melissa -- keeping all of you in my prayers, sweetie! I am glad you have your job to help distract you!

Jen -- great picture -- yeah, no chance of missing us WISHers at these events, right? :cloud9: Oh, and I know Anne's husband, Robert, read Chi Running and found it really helped him improve his pace.

BTW, where is Anne? Seems to me we need to send the dog-catcher out to round up some of our missing WISHers!

I did 60 minutes on the bike last night. With my sinus and upper respiratory issues, I just couldn't bear the thought of running. Maybe tonight.

Terri - Congratulations on being crutch free!

Mel - Hope Phil is ok.

Leanna - Great timing on your 5 mile run

Jen - I've seen a chi running book, at Borders, but am not sure what it's about. I think the next time I'm @ Borders I'll read a few chapters.

My training is going well. I've been walking on my tm almost everyday and taking muscle madness and core training classes. I'm so sore, but I'm not seeing any majors results yet! Ugh.

Have a great day TEAM:cool2:

Good morning team. :)

I came close to having yet another "running related" injury to report. Last night I walked down to our pond to see if there was any damage from all the rain. We've had two geese hanging out there for quite some time now. Sometimes they come up to the house and I give them a little of the horse's grain. So last night they come swimming across the pond and I think "Oh how nice, they are coming to greet me". WRONG! Father Goose comes hissing, honking and flapping his wings like a little velociraptor! He chased me right across the back yard! Well, excuuuuuse me! How was I supposed to know they had a nest there!!?? Naturally, I tripped as I was running away from this rabid goose and almost fell. I didn't, thankfully. If I had, I'm sure I would not be here today, as I would have been pecked to death. OK, well, guess I'll look at the pond from the safety of the deck for a while. :rolleyes1

No training, except for the goose sprint, as it is a rest day. I wish I had my Forerunner on for that dash. I bet I went pretty fast.

Laurie - The NYC Clinic sounded great, but I don't think I can go. Let me know if you do.

Jen - Let me know what your pod says. I'm going back to mine today. My ankle was really hurting, but last night I was stretching my quad and my ankle snapped so loudly! But then it felt better. Strange. But my foot still hurts. I have an achy pain which is most annoying. :headache: Grrrr. Oh hey! Look at you in the paper! You're famous! Can I have an autographed copy please?? :yay:

Jackie - Yeah, this is about as social as I get. And oh yeah, I fully intend to meet you in January I've been training with you all this time, I'd better get to see you! :thumbsup2

Krista - You speed demon you! Whooo hooo! :woohoo:

Terri - YAY! Kick those crutches to the curb! :dance3: Actually, you should probably keep them. I always felt is was bad karma to throw crutches away.

Dave - DAVE! You tell us TODAY that yesterday was Free Scoop Day?!?!? Dave..I thought we were friends... :guilty:

Melissa - Oh no, MAJOR :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for Phil. We are here for you guys. BTW, I am so happy for you totally loving your job That is awesome! :thumbsup2

OK, today's mission is to totally revamp our fall vacation plans around the ToT13K. Hee hee. ;)

04-18-2007, 10:58 AM
Disnut - Well, Wausau Insurance is no more. They were bought out by Liberty Mutual several years ago and layed off about 1000 employees. Just not the same, tho they still use the Wausau Insurance name every once in awhile, I think for the reputation!

Oh hey, on another running board I saw several people mention how Chi Running has helped them increase speed and decrease injury. Now I am convinced I need to find this book. My library doesn't have it, so I may have to find it at Amazon.

Yes, I worked for them whilst they were part of Liberty Mutual. LM did like the Wausau reputation for middle market commercial coverages. I always considered myself a Wausau employee even though my checks said LM.

Also, I recently bought the Chi Running book. I had put off reading it once I got my heart rate monitor but now I'm trying to incorporate it into my training. I do find I go faster when I'm doing the basic techniques. My heart rate was going up too fast so I held off on it until now.

Melissa-:grouphug: :wizard: for Phil. I didn't dress cool even before I became a mother. At least you have the memories!

Cam-hope those sinuses are clearing up.

Aladinsgirl- The pirate finally bounced off to sleep. I'm heading out for the yardwork now.

Sorry to miss some of you. I just haven't figured out how to keep a pencil by the computer to make notes!

OMG! This thread really moves, doesn't it? :surfweb:
Hopefully, I'll figure out who all is who soon here. You all sound like a very motivating bunch! :thumbsup2

Week two of my program, I had my second session this week this morning. It was fairly easy - run 1 minute, walk 2 minutes for 30 minutes. I went 2.25 miles at a pace of 13:21. Friday I go back to run 2, walk 2. Monday I did that and it about killed me, but my cold is gone so hopefully it won't be so hard for me. Running is definitely harder than walking!

I sat down and looked over the calendar last night with my program. Week eight I'll be on our cruise and at the Poly and it just so happens that is an easy week in the program so that worked out good! I finish up the 13 weeks doing a 10K and I'll be at Vero Beach then. Oh, well. DH said he'd run it with me. My parents will be with us so they can watch the girls. I'm guessing we'll have to be up VERY EARLY cause that is in July. I don't even want to think about the heat.

After that I'll start the maintenance 13 week program that as timing has it - ends right at Race for the Taste. So unless I get sidetracked, the two programs couldn't have been timed better.

Hope I'm not being too optimistic here. :confused3

Well, for all of you speedy people out there, this won't seem like much but I just want to report that I broke a 14 min. pace for 5 miles. I officially W/R a 13.59/min pace. :thumbsup2 My goal is to W/R the WDW marathon in a 13.00 min pace. We'll see what happens.

:welcome: to all our new WISH walking/running buddies. :cool1:

Angie - I know you are excited about graduation :cool1: :goodvibes You should be proud! What an accomplishment in a tough field! Good luck with your finals and your training.

Kelly - sounds like you've had a very busy last few weeks. Hope your family gets better soon.

Lily - I don't like the exercising either. But, after I do it, I'm glad that I put forth the effort. Glad you are able to get right back on track.

bekkiz - sounds like you are on the right track. Good luck with your training.

Maggie - every little bit counts, you betcha! I wonder how many miles a typical tourist averages in the Magic Kingdom (or other park) each day? I'll have to take a pedometer with me someday.

Meghan - I've read some articles about the side cramping lately and for the life of me, I can't remember much of what I read. :rolleyes1 However, one thing that stood out, and I'm not sure why, is that sometimes leaning too far forward while running/walking can cause this. That's my PSA for today.

Leana - I would like to volunteer at a race someday. I have a friend that is going to volunteer at the Nike maraton. She'll be handing out Ghiradeli chocolates at mile 22 or 23. I told her to put some in her pocket for me (if we don't get them in the half). By the way, what hotel are you staying at in San Francisco. We're staying at the Grand Hyatt in Union Square. I need to make flight reservations soon.

Craig – Wow! An MIT professor in our midst. Congratulations! :worship:

Matt – congrats on being a triathlete! I'm impressed.

Mel – yikes about the toenail. I guess my day is coming.

Carrie – pd for your bootie. My running buddy has that problem too. Great pace, by the way!

Cam – for you. Sounds like you've been through the wringer lately. Hope you feel better soon.

Bill – Sending :goodvibes and :wizard: to Timmy.

Krista – Way to go on the pace!

Disnut – whew! I can’t do 4 miles at that pace!

Terri – yea on being crutchless. Is that a word?

Judy – :rotfl: about the goose. Sounds like something that would happen to me. Glad you weren’t hurt. I think your guardian angel finally figured out that you’ve been injured enough lately. By the way, that running clinic is located on the street that my friend lives on. Too bad I can’t go to NY during that time. She’s the friend I’m going to Italy with (Rome and Florence area). We leave on May 13.

Jen – another reason why I like these WISH shirts! :wizard: on the foot. Hope the podiatrist is able to help you. As for Chi running, my DH, Steve, wants to try this. I’ll have to look for the book as well. I saw their book at the WDW expo. I wish I would have paid more attention.

MelR – :wizard: and good vibes for Phil. Hope it’s nothing serious. Job sounds fun. Steve, dh, would love to do something like this but I won't let him give up his day job.

Andrew - you are inspiring. As someone mentioned, maybe a few extra calories will help.

Kristi - I think the GGDs need to send a limo to take you to their concerts. You are a great spokeswoman for them. Let me know if you need more bail money.

disnut - I usually have to open a Word document and take notes and I still miss things.

lenshanem - sounds like you've got a good plan. I try to work out my trips with my runs as well. Good luck.

As for qualifying for Boston, I plan to do that someday.....that is, if there is a qualifying time for handing out water/sports drinks. I need to work on my form for getting the drink from the table to the runner. That's about the best I can hope for if I plan on particpating in this event.

Sending :wizard: and :goodvibes for a good week for all!

Susie - congrats on breaking a 14 min/mi pace. Keep up the great work and I'm sure you'll continue to see improvements! I mentioned volunteering in SF to another friend of mine who wasn't able to register. She's considering it, but she may opt for touring the town instead if she decides to join us on the trip. Can your friend save me some chocolates too? I am going to be so dissapointed if we don't get any chocolate on the half! After all, we already miss out on the animal crackers since we aren't going by the zoo!

We are staying at the Best Western Americania. It is about a mile away from Union Square, plus we can get a room with three beds and the price is pretty good. The only thing is I read some negative comments about the neighbourhood around there. I'm not really planning on spending a ton of time in the hotel so hopefully it will be OK... Not sure if we'll walk to the start of the race or if we'll cab it. Maybe the hotel shuttle to Union Square will run a bit early for us.

Ugh. Finally called the doctor's office (you all know how much I HATE doctors. Well, all except that miracle doc that cured my heart, of course! :lovestruc ). They can't get me in anytime today or tomorrow and he doesn't work Friday, but he won't call in an antibiotic for me either. Considering it has been 6 days and it only hurts when I breathe, I am thinking I might head to the standalone medical center, especially since 6 different people have now asked me if I'm sure it isn't bronchitis. First for a training update: today I went on a 5 mile run. I had a 9:29 pace, which i was happy about. The park I run in is a MESS!! Mud and water everywhere from the storm, since the river which runs along the trail flooded pretty bad. At least the trail is passable but it was interesting weaving in and out of all the mud.

I am starting to get a bit nervous about my race next week. I know in my head that I am ready, but sometimes it is hard to believe. My goal at this point is to just finish for this race, and try to keep the same pace i have been running during my training. If I do that I know I will be fine. Now I just have to hope for some nice weather!!!

Ok, now to catch up on everyone's posts!

Terri - that is a GREAT price. Wow! One of the friends that I'm going with got us a room with her frequent hotel points. I checked with Expedia and it would cost us $950 per person with hotel and air (staying at the Hyatt). My air alone is going to cost around $410 - and that's not a direct flight. I've been waiting to see if the fare would go down but I doubt it will.

Ok, now to try to catch up with everyone!!

Jen--Good idea to get your foot checked out, hope the doctor can give you some good advice on what to do!

Leana--my apartment stayed flood free, but much of the area was under water. It is crazy trying to drive around because so many roads are still closed, but it is getting better. I actually have a couple of friends that were evacuated from their houses and probably have 5-6 feet of water in their homes right now...not good. I have seen enough rain to last me a LONG time right now!! I need sun!

Stephanie--glad you had fun at WDW!!

Bill-sounds like you are staying busy with the new little one! Hope Timmy's coughing clears up!

Bekkiz-nice job on your 1.5 miles!

Craig--First, Congrats on the professorship at MIT, that is so AWESOME!! Also, that is so cool that you got to see the marathon in person, I was watching on TV and thinking the same thing, how on earth do these elite runners run so darn fast after 20 miles!!!!

Carrie--great job on your speedy workout!

Krista--Awesome job on your pain free 5k run! that is awesome!!

disnutt--great job on your TM run!

Terri-Glad to hear you are done with the crutches! And that's great that you can start exercising a bit! You must be so excited!

Dave--Free scoop day...yummy. Now if I only knew where to find a Ben and Jerry's around here I would have went!!!

Mel--Glad to hear you are enjoying the job. Sending some :wizard: to Phil that all is well.

Cam--hope you are feeling better soon! :wizard:

Judy--Funny story about the geese! :rotfl: I actually looked at my calendar and I can't make it to the clinic in NYC. Too bad, maybe next time!

Shan--sounds like you have a great training plan mapped out, you will do great!

Susie-WTG for breaking the 14 min pace...that's AWESOME!! keep up the good work

Evenin' WISHers!
I am not having much of a few days off here. Yesterday I spent the morning sleeping, worked OT overnight Monday. Got a few hours of sleep and then went to my chiro for an adjustment and a massage. Felt ALOT better afterwards. But then spent afternoon mowing the lawn and assembling the new grill we just bought. Near the end, it got dark and DW Darcey was holding a flashlight for me. No way I was not going to finish it. Ended up grilling out on new grill for dinner last night, food never tasted sooo goood. Ok not that great, it wasn't at WDW.
Today, DW went for a brisk 4 mile walk and did an abs circuit afterwards. THEN worked on the hedges in back that are going to go bye bye here soon..the roots are pretty deep, my shoveling didn't get them up, so I will have to hire someone. In terms of an estimate, I will ask them to tell me how many nights at POFQ during Value season it's gonna cost me, see if they can figure it out. Will be totally shocked if they ask me Standard View or Water View.

Laurie - Good luck next week on your race, you're gonna do great!
Bill - Glad to hear TImmy's weight is back up. PD to him, hope this "choking" thing is very minor.
Cam - PD your way. Hope your back at it in no time!
Jen - Sorry to hear work is very stressful for you now. I have the same thing going on where I work. Hope the new assistant works out well for you! You can see your WISH shirt VERY well in that photo!
Martha - Be speedy tomorrow! Try to avoid the Upper Field at Babson, I hear they are a killer!
Terri - Good to hear you're off the crutches!
Craig - Congrats on the Visiting Professorship at MIT!
Krista - I think my recent problem was due more to overworking my legs though. I spent 4 days in a row, stressing them and on the fifth day, they were sore and so was I. I backed off of legwork and kept my runs to walks and they are doing better. I'm feeling better. I have to remember that at my weight (still heavy, even after the amount I've lost), any running is going to be enough work for my legs so give them a break on my nonrunning days. My ego gets the best of me sometimes.
Shan - A big hearted WELCOME to the Team! Here you will find motivation, inspiration, laughs, tears, and more support than you can shake a stick at!

Tomorrow I tackle my cluttered garage and Friday the DW and I are taking a road trip...just because (included is my Big Gulp of Diet Mt. Dew with Bare Naked LAdies and Dave Matthews along for the ride).

Happy Training!

Laurie Good five miles! You should have no problems with your race, esp. training in those conditions :lmao: !

Andrew I am so happy to see I'm not the only one who prices everything Disney style. My oven is broken, and I'm hoping that fixing it doesn't mean the difference between staying 7 nights or 8!

Susie That is so exciting break 14! 14 is my goal right now for a 5K in June. You'll be my inspiration!

Krista Your splits are awesome, and thanks for the cheers :) :cheer2:

Today I got 3 miles in. I had grand plans of walking .75 miles, walk/jog .75 miles and repeat. Well, that didn't happen. I jogged 3 1 minute segments, it was just hurting my back and I felt bad. So, I focused on just walking strong (which doesn't really hurt my back). I almost whimped out and thought about doing only 2 miles, but decided that walking strong for 3 miles was important to do :)

I was still happy w/ my pace, 15:09 mpm, my best for a 3 mile stretch, so thats positive. And after a stretch and a shower, I'm feeling better. And having a milkshake for dinner--that helps :lmao:

Terri - Congratulations on being crutch-free!

Dave - PB&J is not unknown for dinner around here. Neither is cereal. It helps that DD is 16, and I no longer feel nearly as obligated to provide well-balanced meals! Last night I discovered spaghetti sauce in the freezer and was able to throw together a reasonably decent meal with little effort.

Melissa - Hope everything is okay with Phil. Glad you're enjoying the job.

Krista - Come on over, and please bring Hines. When Mystic was going to the dog park regularly, several of her good friends were chocolate labs. She'd love to have a playmate. Ever since I started running, Saturday mornings at the dog park don't fit in my schedule anymore!

Leana - Glad you got the run in. I can't believe you're still getting snow!

Judy - The goose story is TOO funny! Are we running tomorrow morning?

Shan - It takes a few weeks to get this group figured out. And yes, we move really fast (at least on the computer - some of us aren't so fast on the road!)

Susie - Congrats on the pace! I'm shooting for about that same pace for the half.

Christa - I laughed out loud at you calling someone else "REALLY fast." You're the fastest person I know on these boards, and you're worried about a 5K?

Cam - Go to any doctor you can. If it hurts that much, someone needs to see you. And you need to be training, so you need to get well!

THEN worked on the hedges in back that are going to go bye bye here soon..the roots are pretty deep, my shoveling didn't get them up, so I will have to hire someone. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Kristi - You're rubbing off on me too. I abbreviated one of our customers' names today without thinking - wrote down GGD - then went back later and looked at it and thought "Goo Goo Dolls?" Couldn't figure out what that had to do with work!

Bekki - Glad my tip worked. I've gotten so much advice from this group - I think this is the first time I've actually given any!

Did 35:00 on the bike last night, then decided today was a rest day. Plan to hit the TM tomorrow morning, but have to pick DD up from work at 10:30 tonight, so that really screws up bedtime! Sure do wish she'd get her license, but that will just bring a whole new set of problems and worries.

Just a quick drive by, but I did want to say:

Craig - Congrats!! That's awesome news!

Judy - Too funny about the geese! :rotfl:

No training to report. The post-race letdown? Yeah, wasn't expecting it after a 5K. Apparently it's not exclusive to the longer races. :sad2:

Not a whole lot to say for me so far this week... Monday was off after the Sunday triathlon, Tuesday I got out for a 75 min ride guessing I went about 20 miles since I forgot my Garmin... Today I eventually talked myself into doing my planned 40 min swim before going into work and I'm finally feeling more comfortable in the water... Either that or swimming in my pool was just a million times easier than swimming in the windy waves of the lake Sunday... Seems like my form is improving anyway. After work I just couldn't get going though, and it took until crazy late (1am) to talk myself into doing the planned 40 min run as well. Actually also went well probably because of the huge gap between the supposed paired workouts.

Training is so boring, and thus boring to talk about, WISH I could just race all the time.

Keep it up everyone, keep gettin out there even if you don't wanna! Minnie is almost here!

Just so Dave doesn't get in trouble from Judy next week... ;)

May 1st is National Pizza Day at Pizza Hut. They are giving away one slice of pizza (cheese or pepperoni) per person between 3 and 5pm. This is going to be nationwide, with advertisements on tv and in USA Today on May 1st.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Wow, I had a great run yesterday. I was outside and it was beautiful. The wind was kick'n chick'n in my face for the beginning of the run, but then it subsided. I did 4.5 miles in about 40 min for a 9:00 mpm pace. It felt really good. Then I did another 1.5 miles with the princesses, DD6 princess: and DD9 princess:, for their 5K training. They did great!

Jen- I really hope things work out with your new assistant, and you get some help at work. Sounds like you've been pretty stressed lately. Good job on getting your exercise in still!

Laurie- That's a great pace for your 5 mile run. WTG! You know I think the nerves are good for your race. Just take that nervous energy and funnel it into excitement for the race and you'll do great!

Melissa- Just wanted to send out some more good WISHes for Phil. I hope everything's OK.

Andrew- Wow, good for you for tackling all those home chores.

Bekkiz- Sorry you're back is hurting you during your runs. Still the 3 miles in 15 mpm pace is not bad at all. Hang in there.

Jackie- I had not thought of the cereal for dinner. The princesses, princess: princess:, would love that one. Nice job on the bike. Oooh, have to pick up DD at 10:30p, that would really mess up my bedtime too.

TXAng- Instead of postrace letdown, just think of it as reverse taper.

Matt- I thought you did race all the time. It does sound like you need to spice up your training though. New course? New music? Any of those help?

Kristi- Thanks, free pizza day! Whoo hooo! I've never heard of that one, but I love free.

So all you AI fans out there - were you scared when it was Lakisha, Blake, and Sanjaya in the bottom 3? How many people thought Sanjaya was going to be saved again, and either Lakisha or Blake would be gone?

Jackie

Jackie, you are very kind. I have learned fast depends on who you are being compared to. If you compare me to my friend Josh, I am very slow. He runs between 4-5 minute mile during a marathon...faster on shorter races! He can do a 40 miler in the time it takes me to do a marathon...I know this b/c one of the marathons I ran had a 40 miler he ran...yeah, he finished right with me.....OOC! That humbles a person!
THanks though!;)

Morning everyone! Today is a rest day for me. :woohoo:
Funny enough, I actually feel guilty not going out. I was so used to walking every morning, but I'm sticking to this program and sure enough - my feet aren't hurting like they were before even with me now incorporating some running. :thumbsup2

I went to the grocery store this morning and saw a sign up for Race for the Cure in Atlanta in May. It is a 5K, maybe a good experience for me as a newbie and definitely for an important cause. Unfortunately, it is on a Saturday morning and DH usually works Saturdays... I'm gonna ask him today if there is any way he can take off. It doesn't appear it is chip timed and no sweeper bus to worry about. :rotfl:

I gotta run some errands today and gonna check out some paths I can run. My neighborhood stinks for running. I'm really over all these hills. It will be the death of me.

Good morning TEAM!!! I xt last night, I did the elliptical for 20 minutes and then lifted weights. The elliptical was really hard last night, I think because it was SO hot in the Community Center, I had sweat dripping off me. I don't know how people work-out in pants and long sleeved shirts, I would pass out from being so hot. Tonight I have 4 miles, looks like it'll be on the treadmill as it's raining right now. This weekend I have 12 and then the taper begins!!

Dave--Nice run! Wow! You are getting so fast. I hope you and Stephen don't have to wait for me too long at the Finish Line. :) I totally would have gotten more than 1 scoop at Ben and Jerry's too, next to Grater's, it's my favorite. By the way, Flying Pig people, make sure you get Grater's before you leave--it's the best ice cream EVER!

Bekkiz--Great job sticking with the run even though your back hurt. Trust me on this one because I've been there, as you run and walk, your back muscles will get stronger and the pain will lessen and finally go away. I used to have a sore back all the time and even had a couple of herniated disks, ever since I started running, I haven't had any back issues. Knock on wood. :) Also, do some ab work, as working the opposite muscle will strengthen the muscle you are having trouble with.

Christa--I think you are VERY fast!!!!

Judy--:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Be careful!!! I've heard those geese are pretty mean! We have them in our parking lot at work and sometimes they chase us across the parking lot. One time they stood outside of a co-worker's car door and wouldn't let her out. Everytime she would start to open the door, the goose would hiss at her and start flapping it's wings. I think she finally crawled out the passenger door. :rotfl:

American Idol People--:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: But can you believe how hard he was sobbing? Seriously. Give me a break! Also, I would not have been sad to see LaKisha go either, I can't stand her. And, I am down loading Martina McBride's new song, the lyrics were so powerful, I think that would be an awesome song to run to.

Jen--Good luck with your new receptionist!!!! :wizard:

Pungodingy-- Please post on here all the time. I really hope it doesn't sound like we are all bragging all the time, because we aren't. Every single one of us has had struggles in the past, so when we get on here and post our victories, we are celebrating with each other. We want to hear how you are doing so we can help you through your struggles and in turn party like crazy when you succeed. You CAN do this. Believe in YOURSELF!!

Laurie--You are going to do great on your half next weekend!! Like Dave said, take that nervousness and channel it into energy.

Cam--I hope you are feeling better soon. Maybe you need to go to an Urgent Care and get on some antibiotics.

Sorry to all I missed, but I have to go and heat up my bagel, I'm STARVING!!!

Morning all!

Today is my 11 yo DD's day to complete the 5K distance in her Girls on the Run training! I'll be running that w/ her and the rest of the girls this afternoon!

Laurie-great pace!

Andrew- I just had a toilet repaired to the tune of one night at POP during value season w/ the AAA discount. I thought it was a pretty fair price!:rotfl:

Jackie- I'm glad there is an age cut off for ensuring kids have well-balanced meals! I'm really getting tired of it!

Kristi- As a follow up to my Jackie comment- Thanks for the heads up on the Pizza Hut freebie!

Angie- Good job sticking w/ your training! Sometimes we all just have to make ourselves do it.

Shan- Glad your training program is helping w/ the pain.

It is finally sunny here! I'm going to go out and do some yard work! Can't believe I'm excited about that!

My AI buddies - Blake in the bottom three, what?? I honestly thought Lakisha would go home, but really Sanjaya's time had come. He was starting to get a bit too cocky and he really just wasn't all that good. Krista, you were right, Jordin really rocked her performance the night before!

Um, so not training for me last night. I was so tired from the late night on Tuesday, plus my legs were feeling tired all day so I opted for a rest day instead. We are getting snow here now, although it hasn't stuck to the ground yet. It is supposed to keep falling though... 3 miles planned for tonight.

My AI buddies - Blake in the bottom three, what??

OK, I had to watch a couple of these shows to see what everyone was talking about. Now I know....ah, Saannnjaayaa, wow, is he terrible, but I can see why teeny-bopper girls were voting for him.

As for that Blake, yuck! Does anyone else think he is sooo arrogant??

Once last rant for today...anyone sick of seeing that VT gunman's face/photos all over the news? Let's quit giving him all the attention.:sad2:

Greetings Racing Team -

This morning I did 45 min on the TM mostly at 4.0 but I am adding some "Goose Sprints" at 5.0 in my pathetic effort to keep up with all you speed demons. I figure if I keep adding time at 5.0 pretty soon I'll be doing the entire run at that speed, then I'll start adding minutes at 6.0.... It's my Evil Running Plan.... Adding speed and I won't even notice it.

Uh hu, riiiight.

Jen - That's OK if you laughed at my goose story. It WAS kinda funny! Today they came up to see me and get breakfast like nothing ever happened. Uh hu, I see how it is...

Laurie - It's OK to be nervous. In fact, something would be wrong if you weren't! You're ready. Enjoy it! :woohoo:

Andrew - I'm starting to think that being a homeowner should qualify as XT. There's always something to be done, isn't there? Enjoy the new grill! If they ask you what View....OMG that would be funny! :rotfl:

Jackie - How'd we do this morning? :yay: I felt pretty strong, but still couldn't keep up with you.

Kristi - OMG You're GGD obsession is effecting us all! Isn't Johnny's last name Reznick? Or am I thinking of the wrong guy? I saw that name on something I did at work yesterday and it made me think of you! :lmao:

Just so Dave doesn't get in trouble from Judy next week...

:rotfl2: You are sooo funny! OMG! You made me LOL! See? THIS is what Charlie is talking about. I have so much fun with you guys! HA HA HA HA!

Dave - Awesome pace! Yeah, I love free too, especially when I know about it in advance. (Just teasing ya!) :lmao:

Angie - Angie! DO NOT SAY IT'S NOTHING! (OK I know that's a double negative but I'm trying to make a point. Work with me here, people!) It is something. It's something wonderful! Come on Angie. give yourself some credit for that accomplishment! It was great! I am proud of you. :woohoo:

Krista - But these geese hang around with me when I'm outside. So much so, that, well, they have names. But I didn't realize it's a whole 'nother ball game when they are by their nest. On a sad note.... all four of their eggs were in the back yard yesterday when I got home. Someone ate them..... very sad. :sad1:

I must confess....I've never even seen American Idol. :rolleyes1

Colleen - I concur. I do NOT want to see his face anymore. He should disappear into obscurity.

OK, let me pretend like I enjoy my job. :surfweb:

Oh, this really sucks!! I've got some sort of upper respiratory infection that I'm seeing the doctor about today. But, the sun is now shining after rain for 5solid days! Not nice. It's also supposed to be near 70 degrees on Saturday which would be PERFECT for an outdoor LR. If the doc doesn't give me any relief I will be hard pressed to run the 9.5 I need to run.

Poor me!!! No speed work today.

Matt: way to go on the workouts. Yep, I agree they can be boring but when there is a race nearing, I keep thinking about that and it keeps me going. That and good music. Although I guess I won't be able to have music now on races. OK, if they enforce no headphones, they HAVE to enforce no baby joggers!!!

aladdinsgirl: sweatin' to the XT! Hope you had good music to sweat by!

Pungodingy: Welcome and don't get down about training! Try changing it up. Add some new workouts or weights or other cardio machines. And come back often to this group! We'll buoy your spirits.

I so agree with you. And think about how this is effecting the families of his victims, having to see his face plastered every where and knowing what he did to their child or spouse. :sad1: I really wish I hadn't seen the "self portraits" that were released yesterday, they were truly horrific.

I will just do the week, even though I think I posted about Monday already:

Monday - 20 mile bike ride into some Kick'n Chick'n wind
Tuesday - Did a show and rehearsal...I fell off the stage during rehearsal and twisted my knee...it hurt really bad, but was quiet funny....so
Wednesday - I did nothing b/c the knee was kinda feeling strange. I kept an icyhot bandage on it and smelled up my office where I see clients...when they asked, I got to say...Oh I am a runner....like I hurt it running.:lmao:
Thursday (today) - Knee feeling better so went and ran on the track. Was going to do easy, but felt good and did speed work for 4 miles.

Matt I totally agree that training can get quiet borring! That is why I pretend you guys are with me (like the network on the cell phone TV adds). HahaHa!

And I agree that I do not want to see the face of the guy who killed all those people.....
We had 2 different situations here in Charlotte yesterday.
The 1st was a student who brought a gun to school and killed himself in front of other students....B/c of this 4 schols in Meclenburg county went into lockdown....
The 2nd was a man robbed a store or bank and had a gun...he was fleeing from school to school with a gun in Cabarrus County. 7 Schools had to go on lockdown b/c of this. I live on the Cabbarus/Mecklenburg county line so it was quite scarry. Had several clients (I see teens and children) really scared and it really set them back......AHHHH! I choose to be angry about this!

Awesome job, Angie!! Do not belittle this accomplishment! You DO realize, don't you that you just sustained the marathon minimum pace for 4 MILES!!!! :woohoo: Congratulations!!

Martha -- I hope I didnt' get you sick, sweetie! Sending pixiedust: for a quick recovery!

BTW, all you AI fans -- I am so glad Jordin is doing well, even though I've never seen her perform. Everyone around here says she reminds them of my DD18 with her gorgeous black curls, huge smile and sweet disposition! Naturally, I am keeping my fingers crossed for her.

Okay, the bad news. Saw the doctor covering for mine yesterday -- bronchitis, sinus & upper respiratory infections and the start of an ear infection. No wonder I feel so lousy. The cough is out of control and is tearing up my throat so there are meds for that (robitussin with codeine). He said the pulmonary function studies were "just ugly" and asked how much it hurts to breathe -- so I have athsma medicine for that. AND, unfortunately, levoquin because he says my condition is so advanced that it is really the only option right now. When I expressed concern about side effects, he said he plays tennis 4-5x/week (he has been on the amateur tour) and it is what he uses when he is really sick (maybe insinuating if a real jock can use the drug so can I). He grounded me from any kind of exercise except daily gentle stretching, for a week and then we'll see how I am feeling.

You know, there was a time when I'd have been glad for an excuse not to exercise. Those days are no more. :goodvibes I literally feel like a kid that's been grounded. :sad1: Fortunately, at the moment, it's not like I have any energy I need to burn.

That's SO funny. I decided to add speed work this morning too, and I did almost exactly the same thing. I did 3 miles at 5.0, but added 2 minute intervals at 6.0 every 1/2 mile or so. But I had the same thought - if I add it gradually, maybe I won't even notice. It did seem when I slowed back down to 5.0 that it was really slow!

And so sad about the eggs - apparently not everyone is as easily scared away?

Angie/PungoDingy - That's a GREAT accomplishment. And it's okay to brag - you have to brag when you can, cause we all know there are plenty of days when it's tough out there.

Shan - The Race for the Cure is a great 5K to run. I did the one in Raleigh last year with 19,000 other people! We'd do it again, but we'll be at WDW this year when it's scheduled here.

Kiena - I'm sure many parents would be horrified that I no longer feel responsible for feeding my 16yo, but I figure she's old enough to find her own food if I'm too tired!

Martha - I didn't think allergies should make you feel this bad for this long. I hope the doctor can give you something to get you back on the road SOON!

Despite not getting home from picking DD up last night till almost 11:00, I did get on the TM at 5:00 - ran 3.25 miles in 38:00. Finished the first 3.0 in 35:19 - first time ever under 12:00/mile! Apparently you really do have to run faster to run faster!

Saw the pod this morning for a recheck on my toe. Told him my heel was killing me, so he gave me a cortisone shot to hold me till the orthotics come in. I'm waiting for it to kick in...

Gotta get back to work!

Hey all! Got some x-training in today. A pretty brutal hour long yoga class. Who knew yoga could make my muscles tremble like that?? I'm hoping to make it to the running clinic tonight for a 3 mile tempo run--but DH can't guarantee me that he'll be home in time to watch the kiddos, so we'll see. Can't believe the Minnie and the Pig are sooooo close!! How exciting!!!

Cam--take care of yourself.

Christa--Boy, you sure do run with a fast crowd!:scared1: I would be sooooo intimidated!

Angie--What an accomplishment! :yay:

Well, I think I'm going to try and take a little nap this afternoon. DH and I ended up with both kids in bed with us last night. DS at 2:30 and then DD shortly after. Their schedules are all out of whack from vacation--making us all grouchy and tired! Oh well, only 2 more weeks until my next trip!! I think I can manage until then:rolleyes1

Martha - Yes my friend and I are registered for the heavy half in Leadville. Did you go onto their website to check out the route? If you want I can mail you the map. As soon as the paths clear of snow we're planning to walk to Vail Pass, which is quite the incline, to prepare for the Leadville walk. We should definately get together while you're here. Happy training!;)

Krista: hmmmm, I'm inside your head? Sorry to hear it! I'm not even in my own head! Hee, hee, hee....

Krista and Carrie: :thumbsup2 way to go on the runs! It does feel good, doesn't it?

Mel:  to you and Phil. I'll be thinking about you and hoping for good news or not so bad news.

Terri: congrats on being crutch-less! Yea!!! DD would whole-heartily agree that they are vile, evil things!!!

Dave: so what flavor did you have?

Leana: oooo, yuck! Please no snow, please no snow...

Monica: did I tell you my sister and I are walking the Leadville Heavy Half Marathon? I talked her into it. Calcio says I'm nuts and will have nothing to do with it. DSis said her DH would walk with us. I spoke with him a few weeks back and that was news to him!! Are you going to be there?

Judy: goose sprint!! :lmao:

Shan: be optimistic! We're here to support you. You can do it!

Stephanie: great job on the pain-free run! It sure seems like spring is making people more pain-free than before. I hope it's a trend that keeps going.

Cam: glad you got to the docs! Hopefully you'll start to feel better soon.

Today is my day off. These allergies are relentless so the rest should help. I hope it goes away soon. Tomorrow is speed work.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Saw the pod this morning for a recheck on my toe. Told him my heel was killing me, so he gave me a cortisone shot to hold me till the orthotics come in. I'm waiting for it to kick in...

Gotta get back to work!

Jackie

Jackie - We have so many predators in our back yard - hawks, skunks, racoons, crows..I don't know how they could have made it. Did the pod tell you that shot will burn a little later on? I got my shot around 1:00 and about 4:30 it burned like heck for a few minutes then that was it. Ahhh, cortisone....it works wonders. Can I have one in my head please? :upsidedow

Hey, isn't is amazing we started doing the same thing today!?? :yay: We're funny! Guess having me there works out pretty good! :rotfl:

Cam: feel better soon......sending pixie dust your way!

Angie: Good job! You are at regulation pace, which is awesome! Not all of us here are speedy Gonzalezes. I'm a walker also so I understand what you're going through. On top of that, I'm old and large, so it's like everything is going against me! What I find works for me really well is to do a short sprint walk once or twice a week......1 or 2 miles walking as fast as you can. then when you go to do your regular walk, the pace will seem easier to keep up.

Judy - sorry you are so sick!

I actually worked out a little today. I rode from boy's preschool into the bike shop to p/u some stuff for my ride. they were really busy, so i bought some really cute sandals there and clocked in to help for about 1 1/2 hrs. I rode back to p/u boy. did about 21 miles at a pretty decent pace as i was riding alone and it was relatively windy.

Kristi - OMG You're GGD obsession is effecting us all! Isn't Johnny's last name Reznick? Or am I thinking of the wrong guy? I saw that name on something I did at work yesterday and it made me think of you! :lmao:
OMG! You worked on something involving my boyfriend? :faint:
(so freakin' jealous right now! You'd think working in tv I'd get to do something like that, but noooo....)
Yes, it's Rzeznik...the one I have a hot date with tomorrow night! ;)

LOVED the goose story, by the way... :lmao:

Angie/PungoDingy - you are doing fabulous! You just keep at it and keep checking in with us. I remember last Feb. or March being in tears alot thinking I was crazy. (well, I am - but that's a different story!) How did I ever think I could actually do this? Chad usually could calm me down. And you know what? Now, I can do 4 miles in under 48 mins.! I NEVER would have thought that a year ago! A year ago I was praying to be able to maintain a 15 min./mile pace for the Minnie.

Cam & Martha - lots more pixie dust coming your way!

I know I missed a ton of people. I apologize. I get very crazy when I have a trip or something coming up. And we are staying overnight tomorrow at the new Twin Rivers casino in RI. And we are trying to hit up supermarkets for food donations for USA Harvest. This organization collects at every GGDs show - the food goes to families in need that very night! So, definately some LTO going on around here!

Oh, and about Virginia Tech...this is another reason I cannot work in tv news the rest of my life. Each day is horrible story after horrible story. It really does get to you. My first week there, Columbine happened. I was working alone the morning of 9/11 (there's usually 2 of us). Imagine sitting there, having to type up graphics & work crazy fast, while producers are screaming at you to get whatever it is that they want done NOW. And all I wanted to do was sit in a corner & cry for all those people. Once Chad gets settled in a new career, I am exploring my options.

Christa - I have no idea how you can do the work you do. THANK GOD for people like you that can do it!

On a much lighter note...I leave for the Minnie in 2 weeks!
I did not do my 3 miler today. I spent about 5 hours clothes shopping after work & found nothing to wear.
I think that should count as xt.

princessmomma - I so agree with you (and others) I could not believe that network's news dept was that irresponsible.

I set out with trying a new, faster, running speed at 11:30 minutes per mile, still not blazing, but it felt good to really feel like running again. Still mixing in with walk periods for this penguin runner.

Krista Yeah, I'm hoping over time things will get stronger. I had spinal fusion surgery in January of this year, and walking is pretty much the only physical therepy. I think for right now, limited jogging is going to be best in terms of impact. However, you are SO correct about ab work. My surgeon cleared me to do certain core stuff (like on a yoga ball), but I'll be honest, I have not done it yet. Chalk it up to laziness (how lazy can you be if you don't even want to sit on a ball :lmao: !) But I do need to begin doing them, for my back and overall strength:)

Today, took the pup for a 1 mile walk at a nice steady pace. I like having those walks, almost to stretch my legs out in the morning.

This afternoon, I fit in 2 miles. I felt ok, not great, but certainly not bad. My pace was somewhere around 14:50. Which leads me to my vent for the day....

Goodness, could I have any more equipment issues?
1. I installed a program that I can download info from my Garmin and keep track of everything. The readings between the program and the Garmin are not the same. Luckily, since I'm not going too far, the differences are pretty small. Actually, I guess this really isn't a vent :)

2. This is! I have workout pants with pockets where I keep my keys and my Mp3 Player. My Mp3 player (which I used to love) is pretty big, bigger than a deck of cards. I now have bruises on each hand, where my thumb hits my hand, because I keep running into the crap in my pockets. I admit, I have a fanny pack I bought for longer runs, but I look like a tool with it on, and seriously, 2 miles...I don't need a pack for that :) That's what pockets are for! And so I suffer :rotfl:

And I won't even get into where I had to put my keys the other day when I didn't have pockets. Let's just say, there are few times where being well-endowed is a blessing. Emergency key storage may be one of those times.

3. Speaking of Mp3 players, mine is hard drive based, and has decided that it will act up when ever I'm moving "fast." I wish I could get a new, smaller, flash based one, but tax day was particularly cruel this year, and we don't have an extra 100+bucks to spend on something we already have.

Finally, a question: the 5K I'm planning on for June has both a runner and walker category. I plan to walk most of it, though hopefully not all. There are only prizes in the running group, and in fact the walkers aren't even chip times (or timed at all, I suppose). Is it really bad ettiquete to sign up to walk, and do some jogging anyway? I understand it's a no no if there's prizes involved, but this is a sort of laid back fun run kind of thing. Thoughts?

Well, DH came through and got home in time tonight to watch the kiddos so I could to the running clinic. We did a 40 minute run, ended up going 4.68 miles. Felt great--a little hot, but great none the less--Which lead me to my next thought--I'm worried it might be too hot to wear my WISH t-shirt for the Minnie. I was really warm today, adn I was wearing a singlet and shorts. Guess I'll just pack both and see what the weather holds! 2 weeks from tomorrow I head back to WDW!!!:cool1:

Hi WISH Team!

MelR, sending lots of PD to you and Phil. Hope it all turns out ok. Good for you that you're enjoying your "repair" job. What a cool thing.

Cam, glad you got to the doc. Hope you're feeling much better soon.

Toenails gone? Oh just in time for sandal season.

Good news about Timmy, Bill. Hope he manages through this much better now. What a good Dad to take a turn so DW can sleep. I'm sure Lyndda appreciated the moment.

Wicked busy these days. I can't wait until Minnie so I can catch a breath.

I had a great PT this week. I really enjoy w/o with a PT. WISH I could find a w/o partner. Cheaper ya know... Oh well, leg started to bother me a bit and I changed back to elliptical today and did some strength stuff. Off to bed, up early again.

What Vic said and Happy training all!

Hello Everyone,

I've been very busy this week so I've just caught up with this thread tonight. I don't feel right posting until I've read all of what you have written.

I was lucky enough to be able to watch the marathon on TV on Monday. That was very inspiring. I really felt badly for the runners running in all that rain. My DS5 was very disappointed we didn't go to watch, but there was no way I was going to stand out in that weather.

Training has been going pretty well. I really feel the need to thank all of you for getting me through some of these runs. When I'm having a rough time I imagine having to tell everyone that I quit one of my runs. Although I'm sure everyone here would be very supportive, I just feel as if I would be disappointing people if I slacked off so I keep on running. Thanks. :goodvibes

My LR was scheduled for Tuesday so I had to decide between running 7 miles on the TM or facing the rain and cold. I decided on the latter. After the first mile it wasn't too bad. My legs felt very stiff, but I managed to finish the run. I ran the 10K course of the race I'm doing the end of April. It was good to see the course before the race. There are a lot of hills. Nothing too steep, but a lot of long gradual hills. Decided to add a hill WO today. That hurt a lot, but hopefully it will help out during the race.

Claire: Good luck with all the new reading material, sounds as if you should be plenty inspired.

Meghan: I hope you found something to help with the side cramps. My sister used to do sit ups before running because she found that helped with side stitches.

TxAng: Congratulations on the race. I hope your post race blues get better.

Kelley: Hope things look brighter soon.

Angie: Good job on your LR. Best wishes to keep up with your training.

Jackie: Congrats on registering for the 1/2. Good job on getting up early to WO after being up so late.

Dave: Fabulous job on your LR. I'm glad you were able to get away for a nice family weekend. You definately earned your free scoop (or 2).

Matt: Congrats on your tri. It must be such a sense of accomplishment.

Sunny: Congrats on your race despite the crummy weather. :thumbsup2 I am very impressed by your continued passion for running despite all your pain. Many others would just sit on the couch and say poor me.

Shan: Welcome. Good luck with your training. Remember that hills will make you stronger - if they don't kill you.

Calcio: Congratulations on the teaching position at MIT. It's something to be very proud of - especially since they came looking for you. Welcome to the neighborhood. I work in Kendall Sq so maybe we'll pass by each other while running along the river this Fall.

Jen117: Good luck with the podiatrist and the new assistant.

Carrie: Congrats on getting your speed back.

Krista: Congrats on your 5K time. Your persistance is paying off.

Terri: I'm glad you are able to start biking and swimming. Best wishes for a swift recovery.

MelR: Best wishes for your DH's health.

Leana: Good for you for volunteering at the race. It sounds like fun. Sorry for the snow.

Judy: Glad you survived the goose chase. It's great that it's found a way into your training.

Martha: Best wishes for feeling better soon.

Laurie: Don't be nervous about the race. You've done the training, now is the fun part!:cool1:

Andrew: Enjoy your road trip. Rest the legs.

Bekkiz: Good going on the 3 mi even though you were feeling badly.

Angie/Pungodingy: Good job on the 4 miles. Give yourself credit for getting out there!

Cam: Feel better soon. Take it easy. Enjoy the down time.

Vic: Hope work gets better soon.

Stephanie: Hope you recover from the grouchies.

Best Wishes to all I've missed.

Have a good night.
Cindy

I woke up at 4am today to do my weekly walk up a mountain routine. However, my walking buddies didn’t show up  so I walked/ran at the gym instead. I’ve never been at my gym at 5:15am. It was fairly busy. I did a 4.5 mi. run at about a 14 min pace. I’m happy with that.

I’m supposed to participate in a 5K on Saturday. I’ve decided that I don’t like 5Ks as well as some longer races. The reason is that I don’t really get warmed up until after 2-3 miles. I’m fairly slow at the start and I usually do my best walking/running after about 2.5 miles. I think I would like a 10K better but you don’t see too many of those races….at least you don’t around these parts of the woods.

Laurie – you are fast, fast fast. Whew!

Dave – same for you. A 9:00 min pace – in my dreams! WTG!

Bekki – It took me a long time to build up to that 14 min. pace. I’m comfortable now with a 15 minute pace (at 5 miles). I push myself for a 14 min. pace. Now if I can just do that for 26.2 miles. Of course, I’d rather do a 13 minute pace so I’ve got a lot of work ahead of me.

Angie (Pungodingy) – Yay! Good for you on the 4 miler without pain! When I first started training, it took me a while to build up to a 16 min pace. I had to keep pushing myself a little harder each time I went out on a training run. And, when I did I was so excited. I knew then that maybe I could do the half after all. :thumbsup2

Judy – I’m going to subscribe to your Evil Running Plan. My Run like a Snail Plan is getting me nowhere.

Martha –I hope you get to feeling better soon. Bummer!

Christa – you know, all this school violence seems to be happening more and more. It is very, very frightening. We never had to worry about this kind of thing when I went to school.

Cam – I’m glad you were able to see the doctor before your condition got any worse. Sending :wizard: for a quick recovery!

Jackie – sending PD to help in the foot recovery.

Stephanie – I hear you on the yoga. I thought it was supposed to be a relaxing exercise. Good luck at the Minnie!

Cindy – good for you for getting out in the elements. I’m such a wimp - I would have opted for the TM. :rolleyes1

Pixie dust to all those who are ill or have injuries.

Have begun tapering for my 1/2.

Sun 7 miles
Tues 4 miles
Wed Stretch class
Thurs 5 miles

Tuesdays walk I did in 57:10 which was really fast for me. I have another 4 miler on Sat and then a LW 6 miles for Sunday. Weather is cooperating so other than Sun on the TM, the rest were outside.

Hip is doing better, but my allergies and asthma are terrible. So my pre walk routine includes 2 Advil sinus tablets, use both inhalers and stock my pockets with tissues. I know it is time to come home when I have run out of tissues.

I wish I had time to respond to everyone.

Well, decided to grin and bear the weather tonight so I got my 3 miler in. 32:52 for a 10:57/mi pace so not too bad! It was a cross between rain and snow and really windy, but if felt great once it was all done! Tomorrow I'm off to the field - a 3 hour one way trip, which is always fun on a Friday - so it will likely be a rest day for me. 7 miles planned for Saturday. Thankfully it looks like we go back to spring on Sunday...fingers crossed!

OK....back to hockey playoffs on TV. Go Canucks!!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Wow, everyone here is doing so well. I'm so proud to be a part of this team. Only a couple of weeks until the beginning of May races - Minnie and Flying Pig. Whoo hooo! I can't wait!

My Garmin's been acting up the past couple of days and losing the GPS signal. I was trying to run about 4 miles yesterday, and I didn't know quite how far I went. My time was 42:34 min. Based on my pace and effort it seemed like I went farther than 4 miles. I mapped it on the USATF site and I went 4.82 miles for a 8:50 mpm pace! Wow, a sub 9 min pace - Yay! Now, I definitely don't think I could sustain that for the half marathon, but I need to run 9:09 mpm pace or less for a 2 hour half. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that, plus I'm going to tie a rope around Steve and have him drag me to a 2 hour half.

Uh oh, we could have a problem, because my plan was to tie a rope around YOU and have you drag me through the course. :confused3 How about we compromise--you can drag me up the hills since I've done no hill training, and I'll drag you down the other side of the hill. :thumbsup2
Hey, if your Garmin is still acting screwy in two weeks, I have an extra 201 here that I don't use too much anymore that you're more than welcome to use for the race. Just something to keep in mind.

Guys, I feel bad because once again, it's been a WTO week. I'm really going to catch up with everyone this weekend. Just from skimming, it looks like everyone's having a pretty good week. Hope everyone has a great weekend and enjoys the warmer weather.

Yeah it's Friday! It is actually sunny and supposed to be warm here today! :cloud9:

I hurt my back doing yard work yesterday. :sad2: But it held up through my DD's first 5k length run at Girls on the Run! I ran it with her and the group. DD was the 1st girl done in 38 minutes! :woohoo: I think she wanted to go faster but the coaches were promoting just getting through the distance. My back was very happy.

I've got a goal of 20 miles this week and I've got 10 more ,well, 9.5 but I'll throw in an extra half mile for free! I was going to do 3 tonight and 7 tomorrow but I think I'll split it evenly and be happy w/ that.

Kristi-Yes, shopping is XT. It would have been strength training if you had purchased anything which you had to carry.:upsidedow

Stephanie-I took a couple yoga classes years ago and was embarrassed by how much my arms shook!

Cam and Martha-:wizard: Get well soon.

Judy- I've been ashamed to admit that I have never watched AI. I did see about 15 min of the audition show but that's it. Glad someone else was brave enough to admit it first.

Christa-My mother lives in Charlotte. She's probably scared to death w/ everything going on. Got to call her today!

Bekkiz- Hey, sitting on those balls is hard work! I'm amazed you can do it after your surgery.
Nancy- My allergies are going crazy this year! I'm running w/ a big ball of tissue lately.

Jackie-I'm lucky because my 3 yo is learning to forage from his big sisters. I won't need to provide for him much longer!:rotfl:

Steve and Dave- The thought of you two pulling each other along the course is quite amusing!:joker:

Melissa- It's so cool that you can do so many errands on the bike. I wish our town were a little more biker friendly.

Have a great day!

Hello my peeps! Happy Friday!!!

Bekkiz--I cannot believe you had back surgery in January and are already able to walk and run that fast! WOW!!! Color me impressed! :artist:

Dave--I thought the plan was for you and Stephen to drag me? :confused3 I'm pretty sure you agreed to that. :) I have my 12 miler tomorrow and then the taper starts for me! :cheer2:

Cam--Feel better soon!!! :wizard: I wouldn't worry about the Minnie, you have an amazing base built up from the marathon, plus in a race setting with fellow Wisher's, I really think you will be fine. The most important thing right now is to get you better!

Cindy--Great job sticking with the run! I know exactly what you mean, about having to come on here and post that you missed or cut a run short without a good reason (for the record, an injury is ALWAYS a good reason). I know no one would say anything to me, but I would feel like the biggest loser coming on here and having to fess up!

Kiena--Pass on my congrats to your daughter! That is awesome!! :woohoo: I hope your back is feeling better!!

Martha--Are you feeling any better today? :wizard:

Kristi--You are too funny with your GGD's!! Not that I can talk, my dog *is* named Hines. ;) Did you ever find anything to wear?

Leana--Great pace on your 3 miler!!!

Carrie-- Hope you are doing okay!

Kristin--Haven't seen you in a while! I hope you are feeling better!

Okay, training report: I had 40 minutes last night and I ran it pretty slow. My legs were tired and I could tell Hines was tired too as he was dragging behind me. We ended up doing 3.67 miles with I think a 10:54 pace, not as fast as the other day, but they can't all be fast runs, right? :) Tomorrow is my 12 miler and then taper madness for the Pig begins!!! YAY!! :yay:

Hey all... it's a sad sad day here in Wisconsin.... I went to the podiatrist and she told me.....I can't run! Well for 1-2 weeks that is. I do indeed have the evil and dreaded PF in my foot. That and limited mobility in my ankle which is a contributer. Now I know where that came from... you see, when I was in first grade I jumped out of our fort and pretty much snapped my ankle. Oh how those childhood things come back to haunt you!!

So my ankle is currently taped for 3 days to try to get the arch back to normal and the inflammation down. I was fitted for custom orthotics and they should be in in 2 weeks. She wants me to still do my 1/2 marathon on May 20, but I need to take a break right now. I guess I need to do some heavy cross training instead. Ughhhhh. OH and the worst news of all... the callous on my other heal is NOT a callous... it's a wart. GROSSS!!

I am swamped at work, I will try to pop in later.

Steve and Dave.... BEHAVE YOURSELF, this is a family board!!!

TGIF!!

2.5 miles on the TM last night. Terrible! I didn't want to do it. My body didn't want to do it. My feet didn't want to do it. But, something's better than nothing. :sad2: :)

Matt - Cute cap. :rotfl: Great pics, by the way.

MelR-- My prayers are with you and Phil regarding the tests.

Matt-- Awsome pics!

Martha & Cam-- Get well soooooon! Minnie awaits you:thumbsup2

Cam-- Make sure you drink plenty of water with the Levaquin (it's processed through kidneys). I'm sure they told you to not eat grapefruit or grapefruit juice. I'd add don't do any weight-bearing exercise until the stuff is well out of your system. I'm sure you'll be fine, remember the soft-tissue injuries are rare.

As for the news media and seeing that kid... After watching that poor kid with the bloody foot fall out of the Columbine window approximately 30 times, I stopped watching the news altogether. I'm not uninformed, I check a couple of websites each day for the top story headlines. I hear about every major story just by being around people. But I'm proud to say that I only saw that monster posing with the two guns once, I wouldn't recognize his face again if I saw it and I don't know his name. I have read about each and every victim, though.

(I've also never seen AI!!!!)

The media would stop if we all stopped watching. (Sorry, Kristi, we'll wait to bring them down until you've found a new position!)

I've been in a major funk; totally wiped out for the last three days. I'm hoping to get my 20 miler in this weekend.

Hey all. Got my LR of 9 miles in this morning--84:30ish. Not bad--not great. But I guess running twice in about a 12hr. period is what slowed me down. But it's over and complete--that's what matters, right?

Dave and Steve--Wow, seems like I'll be missing out on a show at the Pig. Make sure KRista takes pics of the two of you tied together!:lmao:

Sunny--good luck with the 20 miler!:thumbsup2

Krista--good luck with your LR as well!:goodvibes

Matt--great pics!

Well, I better go. Lunch and then naptiem for the kiddos (also referred to as the golden hour around here!)

Boy I go away for a couple of days and now people are talking about tying others up. Perhaps I should back out for a little longer to make sure I don't get involved...:rolleyes1

Timmy seems to be doing better with his choking issues. He hasn't done it for 4 days now so maybe something is working. The doctor is driving this poor engineer nuts by changing lots of variables at once and then not waiting to see if that really works before changing more stuff. It may be awhile before we know the real cause or what actually worked or if it was an anomoly that he grew out of. At least my coworkers agree with me on changing everything at once. ;) He does seem to be eating more so I will guess a growth spurt is happening.

Lynnda has a nice case of cabin fever. She was able to get out of the house a couple of times this week and was glad she didn't have to talk to babies or me. She seemed to relish the adult conversation and I think got caught up on a few things. Since she can start driving again tomorrow, I am sure that will please her even more. The doctors were nice to give her that as a birthday present but somehow I am thinking that she still expects something from Billy and me. :rolleyes1

Training wise, I got out yesterday and did 5 miles with a 10:!5 pace. It is starting to heat up again so the pace seems to be dropping. Hopefully I can get out for a long run tomorrow since it is probably the last chance before Minnie.

MelR - Hope the test go well and it isn't a major problem.

Judy - So what about that missing training. ;) Surely something as entertaining as being chased by geese could have happened again.

Matt - Nice pics, I think the cap adds a little flair to the picture.

Sunny - Hope you feel better and are able to get in your run.

Jen - Sorry about the news on the foot. I hope it heals quickly and you can get back to running soon.

Krista - Enjoy your taper. To think you finally wore Hines out, so the pace must not have been too slow.

Sorry to those I missed but it is time to catch up on other things. Next week should be interesting since I am supposed to go back to work for the entire week.

Dave and Steve! What happens in the marathon, stays in the marathon!;) Sorry Krista!:rotfl:

Matt - Cool pics! You look like you are having a BLAST! Not even tired...please tell me you were tired or I am going to feel out of shape!

I need new running shoes and I have a big bruise on my knee (from falling off the stage) so I was afraid to chance a LR so I did a simi LB (Long bike :goodvibes ). DH came with me for some of it. We had a great time. I did 20 miles. May do another one tomorrow. Or may do a mini brick with more biking than running. No swimming though.

Bill, glad timmy is doing better.:woohoo:

Will catch up later with everyone!

Week two completed AND I'm alive! :woohoo:

Today I had to run 2 minutes, walk two minutes for 40 minutes total. I did 3.31 miles with a pace of 12:12.

Sooo,
week 1 - total 7.18 miles, average pace of 13:27
week 2 - total 9.12 miles, average pace of 12:35

Monday I increase my running to 3 minutes and walk 2 minutes for 50 minutes. I'm a tad scared! :scared:

But, today wasn't too bad. I just hate the hills in the neighborhood and all the people honking at me and waving as they see me suffering. :lmao:

Oh, and DH can't take off from work so I can do the Atlanta Race for the Cure 5K. Bummer.

Hi everyone! Awhile back, someone posted in the running attire thread that they were looking for a tank top with pockets on the back. I found one on the title nine website and thought I would share the link:

Shan - Think of your neighbors honking and waving more of an envy thing on their part. You're doing great! Keep up the hard work! You have Team WISH behind you!
Kiena - How great for your daughter on her 5K! How not great for your back! Hope your back doesn't cause any problems for you.
Cam - Rest, relax, get better, see ya in Chi-Town!pixiedust:
Judy - Not noticing...just take it easy on the ankle. Did you get orthotics fitted yet?
Jen Sorry to hear about your involuntary two week vacation from training, but with those orthotics, and the rest, hopefully...you will be in prime shape for your half!
Vic - Great effort getting in your 2.5 on the TM even tough you, your body, and your feet had other ideas.:thumbsup2
Sunny - Hopefully you get out of your funk soon and have a strong 20mile LR this weekend!
Bill - Good to hear those choke free days are adding up. Hopefully it has passed!
Christa - Hope your bruised knee gets better! Hope it wasn't that big of a fall off of the stage! What's a mini brick.....I can only think of a brick as a really bad missed shot in basketball.
Meghan - I doesn't come in WISH green? For shame...:rotfl:

Well today was a beautiful day here in eastern Iowa. My road trip with DW to Dubuque was great, we had a fun time, and when we got back, I got out for 2 miles of a brisk walk/jog for 2 miles. My legs have felt pretty good since Wednesday, so I thought I would try them out. Walked 3 min, jogged 2 min. I feel great! I work a three day stretch starting tomorrow, but may come home on Sunday and do 3min jog, 2min walk for 2 miles on the TM as long as my legs feel good. Will NOT come home tomorrow and do any lower leg exercises, such as squats, lunges, and deadlifts like before. I think that cardio DVD may have had played a part in it as it contained a bunch of jumping, hopping, etc. that stressed my calves too much. Down the road I will ease into strengthening the legs, but they get enough work as it is now.

Happy Training!

Cam - Lots of pixiedust: that you'll be better real soon! Like Krista, I agree that you should be fine for the Minnie; you've trained enough that this shouldn't be a major setback.

Susie - I agree with you about 5K's. I don't feel really warmed up until somewhere along the 3rd mile, but all I can find around here are 5K's. Not that I'm really ready for a 10K yet, but I'd like to try one...

Nancy - Good luck on the taper. I think we should buy stock in Kleenex, or Puffs, or maybe both! I don't even set foot on the TM without tissues.

Dave & Steve - You guys have fun, whatever you decide to do! And Krista, good luck!

Matt - Great pictures! You don't look like you're making any effort at all!

Judy/Kiena/Sunny - I can join the AI free group this season. I turned it on one night just to see who Sanjaya was, but I'm staying far, far away. The Clay Aiken season wore us out here in Raleigh!

Judy - Of course there's no training - it was a rest day! We're definitely on the same wavelength, cause I rolled over and turned the alarm clock off. I did run across the parking lot after returning a movie at Blockbuster, and when I got in the car DH asked "Why were you running?" to which I replied "Because I can!"

Jen - I'm so sorry you got bad news! The dreaded PF is bad enough, but an added ankle injury - ouch! Hope a couple of weeks off will do the trick.

Vic - Congrats on doing the TM despite everything saying no!

Stephanie - Great LR.

Bill - Good luck returning to work, continuing to train, and keeping Lynnda sane!

Shan - Awesome pace.

Andrew - Glad the legs are feeling better.

No training today. My big accomplishment was booking my room for the Half! I almost went ahead and booked rooms for October for the ToT race, but don't want to jinx my chances of talking DH into that one! Tomorrow's supposed to be gorgeous, so planning on doing a semi-LR outside.

Have a great weekend!

Good Evening All

Sitting here watching David Lean's "Oliver Twist" from 1948, starring Sir Alec Guiness and Robert Newton. I've not seen this version, and am enjoying it, but I still can multi-taskpirate: .

Also, I'll likely get scarce in the next 4 weeks. Commencement is 28 days from tomorrow, and beside a ton of work we'll have a house full of lunatics before that day. If I can still stand on the afternoon of May 19, I'll be doing good.

Pungodingy - I encourage you to be patient and stay with it. It is a very long process building up, and you'll have good days and bad days. The tales here, of those good and bad days help. You can empathize with the bad days, and take heart to hearing of the good days. When I was a very early stage PhD student, and it looked completely impossible to achieve, we always celebrated BIG any fellow student who completed and defended their dissertation. It was living proof that IT CAN BE DONE. Don't get beaten down by those of us who are achieving success, we all have had those bad days, but hearing the success stories is meant to make you feel it's possible.

Cam - You have turned the corner, young lady, and you said it yourself. You've reached the point where you cannot stand being idle, not training, not getting out. This feeling will carry you for a million miles during your lifetime. Sitting still is not an option, moving and doing is what it's all about. Get better and get out there!!

Jackie - Yes, you have to run fast to run fast. Good for you, you've experienced the positive impact of hard training.

MelR - best wishes to you and Phil with health news. I must tell you, in our freshman year Foundations class we've been working through a case series about a bike shop founded by a husband and wife team. From now on to me you'll be the shop's female founder and repair wizard.

Tiberius - by varying the pace and distance you'll get adjusted to carrying a bit quicker pace and still feeling easy. Running the same distance and same pace every day trains you to do just that, and nothing else. Mixing it all up trains you to do different distances and paces.

Bill, Lyndda, and Timmy - it's great to hear of the health improvements. Many of your training buddies have experienced similar trials and tribulations with our little ones. I know you'll be busy, but on May 19, 2007, our young lady who had her own difficult health early days, including a few in neonatal icu, will receive a B.S. in Managment, concentration in Finance, from Babson College. In May of 2029 I expect to hear from you of Timmy's pending graduation, and of his proud parents who will be there, remembering those early days. You 4 all are in my thoughts.

Cindy - Kendall square, eh? I suppose the rational thing to do is hold office hours late in the afternoon, and then run the Charles River loop. I assume there are marked routes of knows distance. If you could let me know how to find out the details I would appreciate it. In long ago years I was a regular along Auditorium Shores in Austin, and it would be nice to get comfortable training around the Charles basin.

Susie - I like your style, 5K to warm up and get moving. Alternatively you could follow a philosophy which ensures successful and enjoyable races, "start slowly, and then ease off the pace."

Leana - "Go Canucks" in Calgary? If I remember my Canadian geography, the Canucks represent Vancouver, and the Flames represent Calgary. In addition, the Flames have their name and roster on the Stanley Cup, and the Canucks do not. Of course, the Canucks have far better sweaters. So what made you a Canucks supporter?

Dave - yes, sub 9:09 gets you in under 2 hours. Think about the likelihood of that last year when you were fighting serious leg problems. I do think you are capable of it with fresh legs on race day and being all juiced up. Also, having Steve as a running budy, even with a rope between you, will help so much. I'd like to see a 1:59:59 report from the Pig.

Krista - be sure to tease Steve as often as possible.

Matt - good for you, and thanks for the tri photos. Being a U Texas alum it sort of looks like you are giving the hook'em sign with your hand. What is it exactly. And . . . it's late Friday night, I'm tired, and my inhibitions are down. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought it, and I'm happy to be the only one who says it, your cute little blue swim cap in looks like you have a condom on your headpirate: . Sorry, but I couldn't resist.

Jen - sorry about the PF. I'm sure the ankly injury from long ago doesn't help either. Remember being out there, participating in life, even if you need to slow down a bit beats the pants out of watching life go by. Get better and get out there.

Sunny - Thanks!

Stephanie - 2 runs in less than 12 hours, including 1 of 9 miles in 84:30 is pretty amazing. Long ago I learned that hard efforts with less than 24 hours in between was a recipe for disaster. You're really doing well.

Martha and Carrie - 16 days to the Minnie 15K. I'm expecting results. Don't disappoint me:rolleyes: .

And finally, I do appreciate everyone's reactions to what happened at Tech on Monday. We really saw the worst and best of the human condition that day. The kids never realize their faculty love them, until things get bad. The holocaust survivor who gave his life for his kids showed what love truly is.

What disturbs me most is 2 things. The first is when I first heard of it I wasn't surprised anymore. What a statement that is about the world of 2007 we live in. The second is just how spinelss school, college, and university administrators are these days. At Columbine, at Tech, at every incident, the shooters had "a history," kwere nown to all, and were known dangers to themselves and innocents. And in every case no one, nobody, acted like an adult and stopped what was coming. They sat, did nothing, waited for the inevitable, and then said in public "there was nothing we could do." There was, but you chose not to. Innocents died because you were afraid to do something. I hope you never sleep at night again, because so many who depended on you are now dead.

My mother called a couple of nights ago and asked if I was safe on campus. I had to tell her, no, absolutely not. I know this wasn't what she wanted to hear, but it, sadly, is the truth.

And thanks to the media for glorifying the shooter. He wanted to go out in glory, and the media facilitated it. I see we had another one today SE of Houston, not doubt influenced by what was aired this week. I'm sure the media don't think they played any role. "Us? We're just reporting the news."

Okay, that's out of my system. My best to all of you, all my friends. Enjoy the lovely spring weather which nature has finally given us this weekend. If you're running this weekend, keep yourself in control in the early miles, and finish with style.

Well, I got some antibiotics and some cough medicine and a good night's sleep. I'm feeling quite a bit back to normal tonight. That's good. It's supposed to be absolutely lovely here this weekend so I hope to get out for a good 9.25 mile run. Next weekend is a 10K I'll be running with DH. Then the Minnie Marathon!!! Woo-hoo!!

I may not get to everyone, so:
To those who are under the weather, , I hope you get better.

To those with injuries, pixiedust: , I hope you heal quickly.

Cam: hope you're feeling better today!!

Jackie: training at 11:00 pm at night!?! I'm usually asleep at that time so kudos to you for doing that!!

Stephanie: did you make it to the running clinic? How did it go?

Mel: sounds like things are going quite well at your new job! I'm quite jealous of that. I wish my job was going half as well.

bekkiz: nope, not bad etiquette at all to sign up to walk but do some running. Just do what you want to do on the run.

Lily: glad to hear your PT went well this week! Mine had to cancel and due to my trip next week, I won't be working out with her.

Cindy: kudos to you for training in the rain and wind. I'd have opted for the TM! You're a better man than I, Gunga Din!!!!

Susie: I've always been amazed as how many people are up at 5:00 am to work out. Gyms are quite busy at that time. I'm still asleep or at least pretending to be so I'm warm and cozy in my bed. Mmmmm.

Nancy: good to hear your hip is doing better but sorry about your asthma and allergies. This time of year is brutal on that. pixiedust: for getting better soon!!

Leana: snow!?! :scared1: Haven't we had enough of that!?!

Dave: great pace on your run!! :yay: You ought to be really pleased!!!

Kiena: happy to hear the girls did well on their 5K! Did they get a bling for the race?

Matt: Matt, Matt!! Oooo, I LOVE the fashionable hat!!! Nice eye candy...Mmmmmmmm!!!

Jen: NOOOOOOOO!!! Oh, I am so sorry to hear you cannot run for a couple weeks!! Is there another form of cardio you can do, like maybe the bike?

Sunny: thank you!! I feel the same way aobut the media. I don't watch local news at all--it's nothing but tabloid stuff anyway. I'm sick of the news lowering themselves the way they do. I couldn't have said it better!!!

Bill: sorry to hear Timmy was doing a bit poorly but am happy to hear things are improving. I am totaly with your DW. When I was on maternity leave I had to get out of the house every day or I went stir crazy. There were a couple times when DH got home from work that I plopped DD in his arms before he even got his coat off and I headed out the door.

Shan: hey, great job on the run/walk!! You should be pleased.

Calcio: as always :love2:

It's getting close to bedtime. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. To everyone running a race this weekend, let us know how it goes!! And, good luck!

Ah, the Canucks. Yes, I have to be careful how loudly I cheer for them out here. I was born in Calgary, but left when I was three so I never had a chance to get into hockey and cheer for the Flames. My first live hockey game was in Vancouver vs. Edmonton when I was 13. I saw the Canucks get trounced something like 8 to 1. It was terrible, but I was hooked and I cheered for the Canucks (probably because my dad cheered for them too). Onward to 2 years of high school and 5 years of university in Vancouver and I am a fervent Canucks supporter. I even missed my cousin's wedding to go to game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals when the Canucks played the Rangers back in 1994. (We won't talk about how horrible game 7 was though...)

So yeah, no Cup for them, not yet. But the Flames are my backup team now that I just moved back to Calgary, but the Canucks will always be my number 1!

Lily - glad to see your post and that you're doing fine!

Craig - Congrats on MIT! :cool1:

Matt - Great photos! What tri was this?

Jen - Sorry to hear you're grounded. I'm stuck doing xt, too.

Bill - Glad Timmy's doing better!

MelR - Hope everything works out for Phil. I'll keep good thoughts!

Angie - hang in there. You're doing fine! It's a steady process, which will have gains and setbacks along the way. As long as you keep trying, you'll be fine. I'll soon be starting and trying to be patient will be the hardet part.

I spent most of the day doing housework. Six weeks of crutches left my house in a little bit of a shambles. Took the day off from work to get everything back in order.

I'm hoping to start back at the gym on Monday. Gonna do some swimming. hope I can make it from one end to the other!

Good end of the week to everyone!

Martha - Glad you are starting to feel human again.

Cam - I hope you are doing better. Your fine for Minnie. Just get the lungs clear first and you'll be great.

Jen - I'm sorry about the PF. Hang in there.

Terri - Be careful with the swimming. I had some achilles issues last summer and found that I really felt it when I swam. Pushing off and and extending your toes to kick can really stress the tendon.

Dave and Steve and ropes and such - I'll take the high road and not comment but... totally unrelated I'm sure:
[QUOTE=disnutt;18242571]Bekkiz- Hey, sitting on those balls is hard work! I'm amazed you can do it after your surgery.

Well, I had physical yesterday at the urging of DW. She mainly wanted some assurance that I wouldn't keel over dead on the marathon course in a few weeks, especially since she will be in The World running Minnie and wouldn't be around to claim the body.

Let's just say I was under the impression that a person should at least get a dinner and movie before that kind of action! I think that appointment classifies as going to "third base" Yikes! :scared1: I get to go back next week for a stress test. Maybe I'll get some flowers.

Training went pretty well this week. Got all my runs in, with a "short" 12 mile LR on Thursday. Went faster than I really wanted to, but I have a tendency to look at the Garmin and think "Oh, I'm close to <insert pace here>. I'll just push it a bit." It's not my fault; the Garmin made me do it!

Good luck to everyone racing today. Have fun!

Mike: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: You slay me! I almost spit my tea all over the computer screen! I'll be giggling about that one for a while.

I've decided to run time, not distance, today. I was going for 9.25 to 9.5 miles this morning. However, with this upper respiratory infection, and I am feeling better, I thought it'd be better to run 100 minutes instead. That way I won't try to outdo the last few weeks of distance running and have a relapse.

And it is BEAUTIFUL outside today! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, it's 48 degrees at 8:50 am so you KNOW it will get warmer and no rain in the forecast!! Woo-hoo. After 6 long days of rain, wind and general miserable stuff, it's a welcome sight.

Good luck to everyone this weekend with races, runs and general workouts. For those who are sick, please get well. We want you back 100% soon!

Martha - I was NOT training at 11:00pm, trust me. I was complaining that I had to pick up DD at work and wouldn't get to bed until then, which would make the 5am appt with the TM really tough! Glad you're feeling better.

It's an absolutely perfect day here too. Just got back from my first outside LR in weeks. Between weather and the PF, it's been 6 weeks since I've been outside and I'd forgotten just how wonderful it was! I tried a new route, and I've found the route I'm going to run when the LR's get longer as the training steps up. I get bored really easily, and I've been worried about finding places to keep my interest, but I discovered a new greenway that is absolutely perfect. I started at my regular park (2.0 mile loop), but forked off on a trail that just keeps going, and going, and going... turned around at 3.75 so I wouldn't overdo it, finished with 5.6 miles in 1:10 for a 12:42 avg. Actually slower than I felt like I was doing, but the Garmin lost the signal a lot due to the trees, so I'm going to blame it on that!

For those of you lucky enough to have spring today, enjoy!

Jackie, is it around Shelley lake? I'm getting bored with Heritage, but hate to have to get in the car to get to my route. Wakefield has lots of mileage for walking, but again, I need to get in the car.

MouseDogMom

Jeanne - I did a loop around Shelley, then went under the road (and across the creek) to the greenway that runs along North Hills Drive (I think - it's all wooded and absolutely gorgeous), then it crosses North Hills and runs behind Polo Run apartments and eventually goes under Glenwood Avenue and comes up at Crabtree Mall. I didn't make it that far this morning, but figured eventually I will when I'm ready for more mileage! It's 1.5 miles from Shelley Lake to where it crosses North Hills Dr.

I went to the Rail Trail today for my 7 mile LW. It is the first time I have been there and it is flat and alot of shade so should be a good place to do my LW in the summer. The main reason I had avoided going there is because of having to drive, but I was also getting bored with my current walk routes so for now it is someplace new.

Mike- That is so funny your remarks about the physical.

Martha Glad you are feeling better.

Cam Hope you are starting to feel better.

My allergies weren't so bad today while walking so only used 1/2 box of tissues instead of a full box.

The first 50 minutes was fine but the second, well, I couldn't even do 50 minutes! I ended up with a total of 96:46. During the last 2 miles I felt like puking! What a waste of 96 minutes!

Jackie: Oooohhhh. I thought you meant that you were training at 11:00 pm. Well, 5:00 am on a saturday is still waaaaayyyy better than I could do.

Hi everyone, got my 7 miler is this morning. It was cold but sunny out this morning, and the forecast called for rain and not much warmer so I figured I'd better get out there. Early in mile 2 I ran up a hill popular for hill training called McHugh Bluff. I gained about 137 ft in 0.3 miles. Yikes, it was tough, and it took a lot out of my legs, but into mile 3 I felt as though my legs were back under me and the rest of the run felt really strong. I finished in 1:21:15 for an 11:36/mi pace.

It is still really sunny and beautiful out, so maybe the weather guy got it wrong on the rain... Thankfully it looks like spring is coming back next week!! Have a great weekend everyone.

Hi Team!

This afternoon I walked to the farthest corner of Denmark :thumbsup2 Awesome place to see the 2 seas come together.

I realized just how very out of shape I am. I've spent a lot of time walking in Denmark as parking is awful. With this nice base I just need to keep moving!

No time to read. WISHing you all the best :cool1:

I actually have something (relatively) interesting to post, so here it is:

I ate so much sugar and refined carbs yesterday that I decided to go for a run after work even though it was a rest day - I wound up PRing my 5k time on the TM (29 min)! It was a magical combination of new skirtsports running skirt, birthday ice cream cake for lunch, and cuban coffee, wheeee heeee :dance3:

Florida WISHers- I was driving home today from Target along my usual running route, and there was a big crowd gathered, police, and animal control. There was a GIGANTIC alligator in the canal that runs alongside the running path!! It was at least 7 feet long. DFH doesn't like for me to run outside by myself after dark, but I always thought I was a tough girl  and could take care of myself. Never, never again will I run by myself after dusk after seeing that monster! Craziness!!

Hi TEAM! I'm going to join Martha with a STONKER report!! I was stupid and slept in a little this morning, because of that I didn't get started on my run until after 10:00 and it was already about 75 degrees. I was so HOT the entire run and felt like I needed to puke the entire time. I was doing 3.70 mile loops of my neighborhood, so whenever I passed our house I came in and poured water on my head. That helped, but only until I dried out. I finished really slooooow, with 11 miles in 2:06, I am so hoping that it's cooler for the Pig! But guess what: I'm officially in taper madness!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: To celebrate, Stephen and I went to the Cheesecake Factory where I quickly replenished the 1100 calories I burned on the run. :)

Jennifer--You saw a 7 foot alligator in the road??!?!  I will never complain about living in Ohio. I like your pre-run meal! I often eat cake for breakfast. I know one of these days my metabolism is going to catch up with me, but until then I'm going to enjoy it!! :upsidedow

Mike--:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Why is it your posts always make me LOL??? Have fun with the doctor! I mean at the doctor's. ;)

Minnie--Denmark? Cool!! Take lots of pics!

Martha--I'm so sorry that you had a stonker today, you were not alone!! This going from highs of 20's to high's close to 80 is taking it's toll on many of us. Be proud that you stuck with it when it was so hard.

Christa--Is your knee feeling better?

Terri--Be careful!! Take your time easing back into working out.

Jen--I'm sorry you have to take some time off from running. :wizard: for your PF!!

Bill--I'm glad to hear that Timmy is doing better. I can't to meet him in October.

Lynnda--HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leana--WOW! That's a huge hill!! Do you wanna come run the Pig? It sounds like you're ready for it. :)

Kristi--I guess you didn't get arrested last night. Does Cam still have the bail fund?

Sunny--How was your 20 miler?

Everyone enjoy the rest of your weekend!!!!

Ok, I’m going to try to catch up with everybody, but I know I’ll miss some, so I apologize in advance.

Jennifer—way to go on the PR! Sounds like a science experiment trying to figure out the right combination of sugar/carbs to create the perfect run. :)

Leana—nice job on the run and the HILLS. :scared1: You are braver than I.

Tiberius—congrats on the new running milestone. It’s funny how all those little events come together to create one great story of this crazy thing called running.

Kristi—love the new Johnny pic! (well, I don’t love it in the same way you love it, but you know what I mean :) ).

Martha—sorry about the stonker run. :( Hey, look on the bright side, if they were all great runs, you wouldn’t get a chance to appreciate the really great ones when they actually do happen.

Nancy—glad you found a new route that will work for you. Speaking of allergies, mine were really bad today on the run, too. Maybe if everyone stopped mowing their grass, the allergies wouldn’t be so bad. Or maybe I’m just jealous because everyone else mowed their lawn today and I still have to do ours tomorrow. :(

Jackie—nice job on the run and glad you were able to get back out there.

Mike—you crack me up (as always)! Please turn your head and cough…

Craig—hang in there over the next 4 weeks. Even if you can’t be around here much, we’ll be thinking about you (and I’m sure Martha will keep us updated, especially if you crack under all the pressure and you end up going completely nuts. “Don’t drive angry, don’t drive angry.” )

Andrew—glad you were able to do the “wog” pain free. Way to go! Take it easy and don’t stress those legs too much.

Shan—nice job on the weekly mileage! Don’t you just hate it when people drive by and think it’s funny that you’re “suffering” and they’re not. Not that I would have any choice hand signals for those type of people or anything…..

Christa—OUCH on falling off the stage! Hope your knee is ok and glad you can at least bike in the meantime.

Bill—why can’t doctors understand how problem solving “actually” works, huh? That would drive me nuts, too. Tell Lynnda we’re all glad she’s able to get around a little more now. Actually, just tell her we’re glad she doesn’t have to see you as much anymore. :)

Stephanie—9 miles in 84 min—and you think it's not great??? I think that’s pretty darn good. Way to go.

Sunny—how did your 20 miler go?

Jen—sorry about your foot. Hope things start to work out for you. Did you every find an assistant? I may have missed it, but I can’t remember.

Judy—I see no lack of training in your post. Heck, sometimes replying to this thread should count as cross training in itself. :)

Dave—I have no words. By the way, YOU started the rope thing, and now look where it got us. It’s all your fault. All of it. :rolleyes1

Lily—hope the legs are feeling better.

Bekkiz—I wouldn’t think it would be a problem to sign up as a walker and then jog some, especially if, like you said, it’s more of a “fun run” than anything else. Let us know if the course marshals drag you off to runner’s jail, though. :)

Cam—so sorry to hear about you. Hope you feel better soon.

Well, I got my last real LR in before the Flying Pig. I did 17 miles in about 2:48 or so. I felt good through the whole run except for the fact that the great Ohio weather has brought us an oven to bake in this weekend. Actually, I shouldn’t complain. It’s 70-something and sunny, great for any other activity except running long distance. I guess I’ve just been used to colder temps recently. On a good note, I think I’m ready for any weather the Pig can throw at me. I ran that half marathon last weekend in the cold rain (almost snow temps) and then had the other extreme today. So unless we have a tornado or typhoon (not completely out of the question in Ohio  ), I should be ok. Either way, I’ve decided that my new running hat is the greatest thing since sliced bread and can be great in cold or hot weather. Why didn’t anyone tell me about these things sooner?? :confused3 I’m going to try to bike around 30 miles or so tomorrow, so we’ll see how that works out.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend and good luck to all the racers this weekend. By the way, since there are so many of us with half marathons and other races in a few weeks, and a lot of people are tapering, does that mean this thread is going to turn into taper madness again? I don’t know if I can handle that. :) See you guys!

Steve

A couple of things I forgot to mention in my previous post. I'm a victim of chub rub. :sad2: It was so hot today that the Body Glide evaporated practically as soon as I put it on. I now have a lovely case of chub rub, the first time that's happened to me I think ever or at least in a really, really long time. Baby powder is my best friend today. And I was having WDW marathon flash backs today that was triggered by the mixing smells of Body Glide, sweat, body heat, and sun screen. Isn't being a runner GREAT??!!

Krista - no, we didn't need the bail fund...yet! There are 2 shows this summer....so Cam better not spend it on her cruise! ;) And I didn't mention I got hugs from Robby & John at the meet & greet. And I got to grab John's hand during the show! As well as bouce many a black balloon off him & Brad. It is so cool being close & making eye contact with a band like that! Take care of that chub rub!

Steve - I am really glad for Krista's sake that you don't like that picture the way I do! :rotfl:

Ok, I am leaving now before I drive everyone crazy. :rotfl2:
I will report in on my 7 miler tomorrow...I promise!

Mike- Taken out of context I guess my post does seem odd but it was a great segue for your post. Glad you survived your exam.

Krista- You may not want to check this thread at the office any more. It seems to be heading down a dangerous path.

Martha- The girls got some Mardi Gras-like beads for completing their practice 5K. They also got to run through a toilet paper finish line. It was great.

Jennifer- I may have to try carbo-overloading since it was so effective for you! Those gators are the only thing holding me back from moving to FL (well, them and my DH!:sad2: )

Leana- Glad Spring is springing for you!

Tiberius- Way to go on your run.

Kristi- Glad the show was good.

Minnie- That view sounds so cool!

Nancy- It's great that you've been able to cut back on your use of paper products just before Earth Day!

Andrew- Hope your legs are feeling better. I had problems when I tried an exercise video at home and didn't use my shoes! That really hurt the next day.

Craig- It is discouraging that recent events don't cause the shock that they used to.

I did an easy 5 miles today in 49:15 the weather was beautiful and it was a joy to be out at the park running.
