Do you have to pay to park at HRH if you are staying there? I have the preferred anual pass.

With the AP, you have to pay to park at HRH....you have to pay at all the hotels....but you don't have to pay at parking garage at CW.

It's not possible to use the main garage for over night parking.
When you check into the hotel they'll ask if you drove. That's when they add $12 per night to your room charges. PBH has plenty of spaces because they have a huge garage. HRH is the one that's packed with cars along the curb. I've suggested people drive over to the PBH garage and take the shuttle back to HRH if you're leaving your car for a few days and won't drive it until you leave.

Does the hotel give you a parking pass like Disney to put in your window?

No, they give you nothing. I think they just record your license plate number somewhere.

Disney just builds the fees into their rates so you don't see it. I much prefer that Universal breaks it out. That way I can pay if I have a car, and don't have to pay when I don't have a car.
The parking fee is pretty standard these days in luxury hotels. We just spent a week in LA and at one hotel, parking was $30.00 per night and at the not so luxury Marriott, it was still $20.00 per night.

I know alot of hotels in Cities charge the parking fee due to lack of space. I just think it comes a little bit of a shocker to pay it at a hotel with such a location. (I'm not complaining, just stating that its not what everyone expects)

When you get there, you'll see how limited their parking is. I don't know if they charge because of the limitations or simply because all the Loews Hotels charge for parking.

What are the rates for HRH?
Parking rates or hotel rates? A bunch of us have rates of under $150/night in the next two weeks. The rates are variable like Disney and there are a variety of discounts, like Disney. The hotels are all deluxe though, unlike Disney.

This is the one "issue" I have with Loews/Universal hotels. I just dont see why they have to charge so much $$$ to park. There parking is NOT limited........have you seen the size of the parking lot for RPH,PBH ???? I will agree that at HRH, the parking is more limited, but thats irrelevant. Its a resort.......they need to have a place for people to park!
I recently cancelled a 2 week stay in 2006 at HRH/RPH, just because of the parking fees! It is not the money........its the principal IMHO! We are dropping some serious coin to stay at these hotels AND go to the Universal theme parks. I just feel like i am getting nickled and dimed to death here!
BUT.......I Digress..........having said all this, AND after cancelling my previous stay, I must say that we left Orlando missing something our last trip! We missed the Universal Hotels........So much so, that I have to swallow my "principal" and pay the parking fees! We just liked the resorts too much to not go back! I still think that $12. is WAY too much to pay to park at a resort you are paying big $$$ to stay........but we are planning our 2008 trip to a Universal Resort again. In the end.........they are 4 star hotels and worth the extra $12 per night.........I just wish they would hide it in the rates.......it would make my "principal" feel better.
I wont even get into the $25, per night for a roll-away bed!!! :rolleyes1
Later..........Syndrome
You have to think of it differently. You are getting express pass access for nothing. I'll gladly pay the $12 for a night with a family of four if it means I get unlimited express lane access for two days.
Gotta look at the positives of staying onsite instead of the negatives.

at hrh, it is at the manager's discretion to waive the parking fee.
i have seen it done for guests that have stayed a full week.
they talked to the manager, complained about the additional fee and it was waived. these people were there for 8 nights and never moved their car once.
they used it to come from the airport and then use it to go back to the airport.
boy, was that rental a waste of money.....
so syndrome, it can be done. if you had kept that 2 week stay at hrh, it might have been possible to negotiate that parking charge down.

parking at hrh is $12 per night.
always check your bill before you leave.
for some reason i have the parking fee on mine the last few times and i don't rent a car.
i informed the front desk of the error and they removed it completely.
so, check your final bill before you leave the hotel.

I have stayed at the Marriott in DC.......I know what it costs.......ouch! Likewise NYC,Chicago,etc......but they are places where parking is a premium! UO has NO parking shortages! Why they must nickle and dime you with it is beyond me.
Its just MY little pet peave with UO. Its the principal that bothers me. I am not one to ask for special treatment from a manager, so he will waive the parking fee. Thats not my style. I just have a problem with Loews charging everyone who stays at the resort a fee to park. Its not a park and ride or something! .........Well I guess, maybe it is!:rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

i have rented a car and driven to hrh 4 times.
each time i parked the car and went in to check in. i left my stuff in the car until i knew i had the room. sometimes they are not ready when you check in.
i'd rather leave all my stuff in the car until my room was available.
but that's just me.
now i use town service to get to hrh. the service drops me off in the front, the valet dudes put my stuff on a cart and store it for me. they give you a rain check. then i check in.
once my room is ready, i have them bring the cart with my stuff to the room for me.
you can park your car in the circle are in the front of the hotel for a short time. go inside, check in then go back, unload the car take your items to the room then park car.
since there are two adults, one could check in the other wait in the car or go park it but leave the belongings with valet.

I think express is a perk. Sure it draws in people but Universal's hotels are cheaper than the comparable Disney hotels and all you get there is free parking. Take the going express fee, multiply it by four (or even by two for that matter) and then subtract it from the hotel rate. Now compare it to the Yacht and Beach Club, Poly or Grand Floridian rate. Universal will come out way ahead every time.
Even just take the rates without subtracting the express fee and the rates are still lower than the deluxe Disney Hotels. I also think that the Loews First benefits and the upgrading outweighs the parking charges. I think you are getting more bang for your buck staying at the Universal hotels than the other hotels in Orlando.
The parking fee really doesn't bother me after I paid it all over North America and even at Disneyland (although there they call it a resort fee).
It is just weird that people complain about that parking fee and compare it to Disney but don't take into consideration the ticket prices and the hotel rates and benefits that are much better than at Disney.

damo, maybe you know the answer to this about the disney parking.
when i have rented a car, the parking has been free when i have stayed at a disney resort.
but, my question is about the disney guest that parks at a disney hotel.
i met a friend for lunch at epcot last year. this friend lives in buena vista .
he told me off site people have to pay to park at the on site disney hotels if they are going to epcot for lunch. so, he parked at the hotel and caught the boat from either boardwalk or the stop after the swan to get to epcot.
i didn't know that. so, if a local wants to go to the food and wine or dinner at epcot, they have to pay to park at the disney hotel? i know they have to pay $11 or 12 to park in the epcot parking lot but didn't know about the hotel charge. was this guy pulling my leg or what?
come to think of it, if a local did not have the disney ap, they would have to pay the parking fee to park at epcot if they were going to have dinner there for the evening, right? if that is true, then it really is the same difference for parking at the UO hotels then.
$12 per night parking is a bit much but
I have said this before. You think that disney doesn't include this fee in its rate?
Disney, being as it owns everything (as opposed to Universal which does not own the three hotels) can include it all in their nightly rate. It just seems better at disney not having to pay for parking.
Would it make you feel better at Universal Resorts if the nightly rate was increased by $12 so you didnt realize you were charged it? probably would.
Now I cannot prove it but my guess is that if you add the $12 to Universal resorts it is still less expensive than a comparable disney resort.

Here's me and my 2 cents :flower3:
-At disney if you are going to a theme park whether it be to eat at Epcot or spend the day you need park admission as well as paying for parking (if you are not a resort guest)...
-At Universal if you are going to a theme park or to eat you still have to have park admission as well as paying for parking
I can understand Loews charging for parking where it is limited such as New York, DC, Boston, etc... cities... where space is at a premium... but do not find it necessary for them to charge the parking fee elsewhere.
In my opinion Universal needs to give the express pass for resort guests, because they need to "draw" guests to stay on property..
Again, this is just me and my two cents:grouphug:

I'm pretty sure you have to pay otherwise people would just park at the hotels and take the bus to the parks for free. That is one reason why you can't take a bus anymore from DTD to any of the parks directly. When we went to AK last year for a day and got charged $10 at the gate to get dropped off by taxi, we decided that going back we would go straight to DTD. Well, you couldn't do that. We had to go first to AKL and then take a bus to DTD. Then we got a cab back to Universal. It was much cheaper that was but took a while. It let us explore AKL though, which we had never seen before.

When we visit Disney, we stay in the cheapy All Stars. I just can't justify staying at a moderate or deluxe and paying all that money when all we do is sleep and shower in the room.
I must admit, i wasn't thrilled at paying $200/nite for a hotel room (that we are hardly IN), but i knew the FOTL was worth it....staying onsite i how i feel i pay for my FOTL privledge.
Oh, and we don't pay to park....we always get a towncar from MCO to take us to UO and we pick up (or get picked up by) Budget from the Holiday Inn Universal to get us to Ocala for the rest of the week before we drive from Ocala back to MCO to go home.
I agree with the dollar amount tho.....why $12? Why not $6? Why not $15? Of all the amounts, they have $12.....and don't you pay tax on top of that too? (can't remember)
I agree it seems you're nickeled and dimed, but in todays day and age, you pay for convenience.......

I think it started at $5 or $6 and then they have gradually increased it. Loews can't earn money through the parks like Disney by increasing ticket prices so they have to rely on increasing their rates at the hotels.

But look at how the price of disney parkhoppers has increased in that time. Has it been more than $6/night for a family of four?
Disney can make their increases in other places, Loews can't.
Universal prices are way down for hopper passes as well, so we are saving money is other places (even though Loews doesn't get that money).
Disney -- one day park hopper $112
Universal -- one day park hopper $77
My point is that yes, it is annoying that the hotels charge for parking but IMO, Universal more than makes up for that with their pricing.

in regular season, the values are now going for $94 a night.
i can remember when i first stayed at all star sports with the boys the year the place opened paying $59 a night.
it's so not worth paying over $100 which includes the 13% tax for assp each night.
with the ap or aaa, you can get a room at universal onsite for sometimes $129 + tax...
when i look at it that way, value at disney for over $100, deluxe at universal for a 1/3 more, it's a deal!

I still think, even with paying for parking at USO hotels, it's a huge savings comparing apples to apples.
Forget the FOTL for a minute, as well as park tix. Just compare what it would cost for me to stay 4/28 thru 5/5 at a WDW deluxe, AKL, (their cheapest deluxe, BTW, according to the CM who quoted me these rates two weeks ago) and HRH at USO (what I would consider equal with one of WDW "nicer" deluxes). Same discount at each hotel, FL resident/annual passholder.
3 adults in one room:
AKL $285 per night (would have been 260 per night if two adults)
HRH $129 per night, +25 for the extra adult, +12 per night parking = $166 per night.
Now, the rate does go up on the weekends, so let me take that into account:
$144 for four of the nights, + the 25, + the 12, $181 per weekend night.
Sooo, seven nights, three adults, one room, parking fees, four nights being weekend nights, $1,222 at HRH.
Seven nights at AKL would cost us $1,995.
A savings of $773, even paying the $12 a day parking.
The savings increases when you take into account all the merchandise and dining discounts you get with a USO AP vs. a WDW AP. We tend to buy more "stuff" wherever we're staying.
So, when you really break it down and compare apples to apples, the USO hotels are a far better value than the WDW hotels, IMO -- comparing deluxe to deluxe, since USO doesn't have value resorts comparable with WDW moderates or values. Although, even when I called WDW a couple weeks, CSR, with FL resident/APH discount, was $159 per night for the same week I gave the HRH quotes above. So even comparing USO hotels with a WDW moderate, USO was still a huge savings.
goofy!

Let's do a comparison. Let's choose the "best" of the deluxes at each resort.
Vacation: 6 nights/7 days
May 11 - May 17th
fake family: 2 adults, 2 children ages 10 & 12
Disney
Grand Floridian Magic Your Way Package
Code ZHD
Room: Theme Park View
Hoppers: (4) 7 day MYW tickets with Park Hopping Privs (NO non-expiry)
Total for the week: $4,672.36
Universal
Portofino - Deluxe Room Supersaver rate of $279.00 per night = $1674
(4) 7 day ticket special with park hopping @ $85.00 each = $340.00
Add these together = $2014.00
Now add parking = $72.00
Total at Universal - $2086.00
Difference between the week at Disney vs. The week at Universal: $2,587.
That's ALOT of parking Disney builds into their rates :Teeth:

Yea, the facts are correct.......WDW is WAY more expensive! There is NO denying it. Here is the thing though........if you are a WDW Resort guest.....you can also park at the parks for free also. At UO, if for some strange reason, you are staying at one of the hotels, and decide to drive and park at the UO garage.........it will cost you . Its not free for Resort guests. I think my main problem with the Resort parking fee, is that it jumped from $7. to $12. OVERNIGHT.
My example..........
We stayed at RPR club level during Christmas/New Years 2005/2006, and didnt know anything about the parking fee, until we checked in. "O.K. $7. per night.......fine." We also had a rollaway, and didnt know they charged $25. per night untill we checked out! I tried arguing that fact to no avail........in the end our room cost us approx $525. per night with parking ,taxes and the rollaway added in. The reservation was for $459 per night. I guess that why I feel I am getting nickel and dimed to death.
Well, I got over the $7 parking fee, and booked HRH/PBR for 2 weeks in 2006 and *much* later, got an e-mail that said rates have jumped up to $12 !!! Overnight.......with no explination, or "granfathering" in pre-existing reservations at the $7. rate.I called them and they basically said too bad if you already had a reservation.......the parking is now 12. FIRM! We had reserved for 16 nights.......club level.......do the math on the parking fee.......almost $200. bucks!!! I was mad they wouldnt even consider waiving the parking fee.......so I cancelled. They lost a lot more than $192. it made me feel better.......at the time. BUT........
Yes.......after the fact we ALL agreed we missed it too much to not go back. It was a mistake to cancel. The resorts are 4 star, and the express pass is worth the rates they charge. We have decided to go back in Jan 2008........and I will just have to leave my "principal" in the car, in my $12. parking spot. Hopefully by then they wont raise the rates to $17. per night!!!!!
With WDW, although the rates are higher.......at least you know that nothing but taxes will be added on top of the rate. I guess it makes you feel better on the surface.........but you are all right.......we are paying a LOT to park in WDW !!!!
O.K. Rant over........Now we have to figure out if we are staying at RPR,HRH or PBH !

Thanks mac,
We are really stumped this time for some reason. We have decided to stay club level.......pretty much for the easy, quick breakfast with the kids in the AM, and the nice desserts at night.
We ALL REALLY like the RPH........rooms are so dang small though. Did I say we REALLY like the RPH! And the RPH club lounge!
Kids......(teens,pre-tens), want to stay at HRH obviously!:rockband:
But the adults (parents) want to stay at PBH, bigger rooms for almost the same rate as HRH. :cloud9:
Tough one for us this go around.......rph club would be the most cost effective but a little cramped!!! :crowded: :scared:
Well at least we have some time to decide.......still waiting for AAA rates to come out.

one of the reasons i gave to the mods that we needed a "chat " thread so we wouldn't get side tracked and hijack on going threads.

Thanks mac,
We are really stumped this time for some reason.
:cloud9:

Do what we do. We stay at PBH for us. But to satisfy the kids, we reserve a cabana for the day at HRH.
And to stay on topic - it is an easy walk - no need to drive and park :goodvibes

Well, whether you want to complain or not...I just received an email about the cost.
For self-parking, the rate is $15 per day and valet is $20 per day.

Glad I've got my confirmation where it says $12. They had better honour that!

FIRM!
Sorry to say, but, been there-done that. The last time they raised parking rates........I had a confirmation stating $7. parking fee........when it jumped to $12. After I got the e-mail I called and they basicaly said "too bad, the rate is NOW $12.......period, it doesnt matter what the confirmation states." I even talked to a supervisor/manager about it........no-go, they would not honor the lower parking rate! Thats what got me a mad.........so I cancelled the reservation on the spot..........they didnt even seem to care I was cancelling a 16 night club room reservation because of a small issue of parking !!!!:confused3
Anyway.........you guys better call and see what kind of answer you get. I hope they will still honor the $12. rate for you.
$15. per night to park !!! :rotfl: !!!They are getting crazy now.........funny how I just mentioned last night about them raising the rates again. Somehow I had a feeling it was coming! That wont stop me from going this time!

all the more reason NOT to have a car there now..... i realize some drive there and can't help it....BUT, if you're coming and going to/from MCO, a service is just cheaper....AND to get a taxi if you feel the 'need' to go somewhere..... :sad2: $15....unreal! :rolleyes2
I think we need to discuss this with Loews. Anyone got a good contact??? Mac, you know anyone?
It is jumping up too quickly. It may only be a few bucks but it is too much too quickly.

$15 per night to park :scared1: --I thought $12 was bad!!!
I would imagine that this is a move being made by head office at Loews. The front desk is going to hate this as are the managers. The head office must be happy with the occupancy rates or they wouldn't be doing this.

someone bring up the loews site and check the parking fees for the other loews hotels.
i'll check some later.
look for the big cities..........
i think we need to prove our point if the other cities are less than $15 for parking.
if it turns out not to be the case, then we take the tourist approach on this when we start our letter/email campaign.
we open our campaign up to the world.

it's all about tourism.. DBIL tells us that rental car places in Fla. (esp. mco) really jack the prices cuz they know the tourists want/need rental cars....he says they really "sock it to the customer".....ahhhh....the almighty dollar rides again :sad2:

I came into this thread a little late but what I was told when they upped the rate a while back is that AAA (I think) was doing the valet but they changed companies. They likely give the valet company a portion of self parking to maintain the parking lot. The parking charge is a topic on TripAdvisor as well saying that Loews is nickel and diming us to death. If Loews were to take the valet service under them the cost of the rooms would likely raise. Would that be fair to those who fly in?
BTW Loews Miami is $30.

They don't state the prices. They just say that parking fees apply. Sneaky little buggers.
It is $30/night in Montreal but that is totally valet because there is no space to self park. At least $32 in Phillie. That's the latest one I've seen quoted on tripadvisor. $32 in Washington, DC., $30 in Santa Monica

I think parking at hotels is very common now, Loews, Hyatt, Days Inn, everywhere.
We paid $19 a day to park at a run-of-the-mill Days Inn five years ago in Savannah. Even our local Hyatt charges its guests parking fees. It's been a few years, but I remember they tried to charge DH & I $40 for an overnight stay. What was interesting with that one is they sell spots to locals for parking downtown. I already pay $89 per month there so I can park downtown close to the courthouse. $40 per night (or two days) is outrageous, IMO, especially when so many locals already use their garage for monthly rentals.
But whatcha gonna do? I still think that even with $15 per night, it's still a massive savings for a comparable onsite vacation at one of the parks in Orlando.

Loews Santa Monica was $27.00 + tax.
Bill showed $30 and change per night. No self parking.
As a comparison - Anaheim Marriott - with a HUGE self-parking lot was $20.00 per night. The lot was so large that they were selling day space to convention people for $10.00 per day.

when you check out of hrh, there is a place on the form of "how was your stay here" where you can list complaints, concerns, complements.
i think we all should list our thoughts on the increase of loews parking fees for guests.

All the Disneyland hotels have a hotel fee that includes your self parking.

Hey all,
For what its worth.............
I just recieved my confirmations for HRH, and PBH for December, and it still reads that parking is $12.
I will take my confirmations and argue the fact if they try to charge me $15. Its not the extra $3 bucks that bothers me...........its just to see if there customer relations is getting better!

We just got back and parking was $12.

Stayed at the HRH 2 weeks ago and parking is $12.78 per night tax included. Easy money they are making if you ask me. Price is too high.
When I received my email to give my comments about my stay at Hard Rock, my only comment was about the silliness of the parking fee since they are trying to attract the Disney crowd. I didn't get a response.
