View Full Version : Is MIB like Buzz Lightyear?

From the picture on the Universal site, it looks like MIB is like the Buzz ride at the MK. However, it has a height restriction of 42". So, I'm curious if it's scary or what the deal is (why does it have a height restriction). My 4yo is tall enough, but he's not the bravest kid on the block. It's like Buzz in the fact that you shoot at targets and rack up a score.
But the vehicles have a lot more movement, even to the point of spinning with the near-ferocity of a tilt-o-whirl. Also, instead of shooting at little round Z targets, you are shooting at animatronic "bugs" and whatnot...much better themed than Buzz, in my opinion.

Yikes, Tilt-a-Whirls make my husband puke. Good to know.

The spinning parts are only a small part of the ride, so don't let that scare him off. I tend to react badly to spinning unless I have plenty of sugar in my blood...he might want to try that little trick too.

MIB is a more intense version of Buzz. The animatronics are much better. MIB is probably my favorite in either Disney or Universal. It's very addicting! In comparison, Buzz ride pretty much bores me. My fiance suffers from motion sickness and had no problem on MIB.

you spin 3-4 times during the ride and each time it goes around about 2-3 times except at the end where it probably goes around 5-6 times?

actually you spin one revolution in the second part, you spin 3 or four (i will have to pay more attention) revolutions during the ambush. after the scan if you are shot by the drop-down-boys you will spin one revolution, if the other car hits your exhaust port you will spin one revolution. at the "bug" you will spin 3 revolutions and then the ride is over. :cool2:

you have more of the targets moving on both sides than you experience at buzz.

there is movement constantly while you are shooting at the targets. look on both sides of the car to find them.

I don't do spinning rides but the spinning on MIB isn't bad at all.

from queue to exit, it may be the best and most complete attraction at either park.

tell him he gets to hold his own gun and gets to kill as many aliens as he wants, that should wash away any fears.

The only thing in common is that you shoot aliens and targets and get a score.Buzz is great, but more for the very young kids,I've been on it like twice and that's enough. Now MIB I can do 20 times a day without getting tired of it!!You spin out of control when other cars or aliens hit you,the gun is free from the holder so you can shoot everywhere, even turn around and hit the target in YOUR OWN CAR over and over and get a great score giving your car the win!!

You get the same number of points as when you shoot the opposing cars exhaust (10,000). If you shoot your own exhaust, you cause your car to spin and it makes it hard for anyone else in your car to hit anything because they are spinning so much.

Only if you do it early, when you're facing off with the other car does shooting your own port make your own car spin,if you wait a bit when you're further away then you can shoot yourself without spinning. That's what I do, I don't start shooting my own car if it's going to make us spin and not get points!!

If you're good enough, you don't need to shoot your own exhaust. Just work on perfecting shooting the other car's exhaust. It's just as easy and much more satisfying. The other car is the enemy not your car. You don't shoot yourself in the foot in a gun battle or shoot your own car in a fight with the aliens. You want to disable their car not your own.

I didn't know you could shoot your own car, but I'm surprised to see some people so upset over the idea. I guess I'm just not competitive enough when it comes to theme park rides. I thought it was all about having fun. Then again, I'm not that into the ride to ride 20 times in a row or perfect my aim. Oddly enough, I often win. I'm just really coordinated or really lucky. :p I never can hit that dumb circle though. :confused3 I do have to say I think constantly spinning a car full of family members sounds like a whole lot more fun than beating the other car to me.

It's just one of my pet-peeves. We all have some--mine just happens to relate to MIB.

I thought it was all about having fun.

I get motion sickness and I've been in too many cars when there are people in my car that shoot our exhaust and keep me spinning the whole time. It's impossible to shoot the other car when I'm spinning. It seems fair enough if the people in the opposite car are good enough to keep us spinning. Then I deserve to be spun around.

Then again, I'm not that into the ride to ride 20 times in a row or perfect my aim.

I'm obsessive like that. ;) But looks like I'm in good company as many of us do like riding over and over. Some people play golf or tennis all day or go bowling for hours. I enjoy MIB. (Although I haven't been able to ride in a couple of months---been too busy.)

Just a few things,I would not shoot at my own car but if you are in the other car and want to shoot yourself thats better for me so I'm not spinning.I almost never even shoot at the other car,I cant tell you how many times I've been spun and people in the other car think they are beating my car, when we get to the end I've still maxed out And my average is still way above what they can get.
I do ride sometimes all day, I do get some strange looks. If someones asks I will help them and ride with them, most people are very happy but every now and then I will get someone who is mad they are so far behind in points.
Remember also there is always someone better out there,I rarely see someone max out (except for my family)last week when I rode with MIB999999 it really helped,he was awesome.I still would like to ride with others who can max and always willing to meet with others who would like to improve scoring

Hey Macraven, I'll ride with you! But I have to warn you I have never ridden MIB before. I have this little problem with spinning...exactly how bad is it? you know, i thought of that issue for you.
one of my sons takes meds for seizures. he has to up his dose the morning before the rides that have the strobe/flashing lights.

the flash of the picture that is taken of the group has not effected him at all though. the end of mib has spinning and you are in a fog type situation briefly, you will see some light effect but not enough to trigger a seizure.

the spinning for spidey i don't think is as forceful as MIB.
that's just my opinion but my son has not zoned out on the rides.

i'm trying to think of all the rides that have flashing lights. i can list some but in case i miss anything, i don't want to cause you and the fam a problem.
you might want to send an email to guest services. tell them your son can't be in any attraction that has flashing lights as it triggers seizures.

they can give you a list of rides that you might have to avoid.
contact them in advance so you can plan ahead of what rides to avoid in order to not have disappointment.

OMG I love MIB, I could talk about it all day! My family has to drag me away. We are very competitive too. We don't even like to ride together because we shoot at the same targets! If someone in my car shot at our own port I would probably throw them out!! Because then I can't shoot at my favorite little parking meter!

The only 2 places that are tough for me are when you are going down the corridor when he says "don't shoot, don't shoot". I don't know what to shoot at before he says "fire!". I shoot at him. The other place is the last turn at the very end before he says "oh no, only one thing left to do...". I can't find anything there. I usually just turn around and try to shoot back behind me.

After you've ridden MIB, Buzz seems like IASW.

At the six against one you have to shoot the guns in the aliens hands as they come out of the trash cans (10000 points a hit,one time shot)How are the other members of your family scoring?

actually there are sensors on the widow grating. very hard to see. in the left lane the window to the left at about 11 o'clock just above the aliens head. in the right lane dead ahead just above the aliens that spins head is a sensor

Once you have made the turn for the "big bug" there is nothing to shoot at since the sensors in the bug are not working. going for an exhaust port behind you is a good idea but you have a very small window of opportunity :cool2:

At the six against one you have to shoot the guns in the aliens hands as they come out of the trash cans (10000 points a hit,one time shot)How are the other members of your family scoring?

There are a few sensors on the aliens themselves but you have such a short period of time to find them. I usually shoots the guns as well. It is easier.

My hubby will NOT do spinning rides, like the tilt a whirl or the tea cups but he has never passed up an opportunity to do MIB and will ride it multiple times in a day...no problem.

My now-9yo had a major vertigo issue when he was little that caused him to fear anything spinning but he loved MIB and didn't have a problem.

He didn't like the strobe effects in some of the rides...not a medical reason, just a preference thing... He really didn't like Spiderman but since we were all riding and I wouldn't leave him he rode as well. He simply closed his eyes and sometimes put his hands over his face to block it out. Problem solved.

Everyone has to judge for themselves and find their own balance between comfort and thrill but I think to miss these rides for anything less than a medical emergency would be a shame.
