Anyone else going this year?

Update:

When is it - end of July? I forget. I had been thinking of going - but I'd commute. Are class reservations open now? What are you signing up for? Do you have friends going? Wanna meet? Should we wear LGMH's?:lmao:

:woohoo:

Yup, July 26-28. I could only do 1 day last year, so this year I wanted to go for the whole thing. I just didn't feel like commuting this time...so got the room. I think one friend is planning on coming up too.

As of this morning no classes listed yet. Registration starts 4/25. I know I'm taking any Lisa Bearnson classes I can get, I loved her's last year. Not taking any organizing ones, and not sure about crops, waiting to see what everyone else is doing...

YES I WANNA MEET!! :yay: It would be really fun! Last year I had my LGMH and a DIS green boa (on my bag, it was tooo stinkin hot to wear it)

I wish but we are saving up for WDW in Oct. I looked at the classes from Manchester, I only wanted about all of them!!! Seriously I think it added up to be well over $400. So needless to say that is not happening.
I think we are still trying to go to Mini Meet in TN a few weeks before CKC.

Have fun everyone!!!!

My sister and I went for a day last year. I don't live too far, so if I do go, I'm sure it will be for only a day again.

I am going too! For the last 2 years my mil (daisydu) and I went the whole time. This year, I have boy scout day camp on Friday, so I will be only taking classes and cropping on Saturday. I don't know yet about a room. I live about 10 minutes away, so I'd be up for a meet on Friday night or any time on Saturday. LGMH on my bag, of course!

I know I just checked yesterday and I didn't see any classes posted yet.

:)

ETA: Hey! That was post 1400! Cool! :)

Hey...1400 for me too :teeth:

Have you done the crops before?

We have done both Fri and Sat crops for the last 2 years. I enjoyed them a lot. I always got a lot done. The Fri crop was a little crazier (is that a word) than Sat. A lot of give aways and challenges and stuff like that. Sat is much calmer. Neither has the store open though. I always thought that it was unfortunate. I am sure I would have spent more money! :)

Thanks so much. Do you want money before or after? I think they were roughly $35 last year but I'm not sure about this year. I bought the book last year and love it! I actually bought some board books at the dollar store to make some more.:thumbsup2

You can just get me the money after. That way if they don't have it, it doesn't matter about the money. Where did you get the description? I couldn't find it anywhere. Also, if they don't have that one, is there another one you might want instead? I got a Chip and Dale one at their booth. I think the instructor said you could go to their website to see the ones they had available.

I found the description on the CKC Manchester link.
I didn't see any other ones on the website but if they have a different one I'll take it! I didn't see the Chip and Dale one, is it cute?

If you want to look for me that would be good. They sell out quickly so if you can't find one then Mickster could still have a chance to get one.

I'm going both days, staying overnight with relatives. I actually just went online and changed my classes around because they just added the Deluxe Designs classes back in. So now my Friday classes are 11:10 - Canvas Wall Hanging, 3:10 - Techniques with a Twist and 6:00 - Strano Ribbon Book. I'd love to meet you - what's your schedule like?

I will be getting to the vendor faire early Friday and I can make a beeline for the Disney Board Book section - I will pick one up for anyone that would like one! Two takers so far!

Sorry you couldn't get in to Techniques with a Twist - I love LBDD. I took one of their classes last year and it was so much fun. I'm actually taking 2 others from her on Saturday! I was really debating that Disney Delight - I'd like to see how your finished project came out!

I'll talk to you a little closer to it and we can figure out how to at least say Hi!

I took the LS Class at CKC Valley Forge last year. Here's the pics of the book for those who would just like to scraplift it. I'm going to CKC Buffalo this year, so as we get closer whoever can't get something in Manchester, I may be able to get it there.

Oh COOL..we are in the Disney class together!! Wear your LGMH so we will know each other, I'll have mine on too.

I'll post tomorrow my other classes, maybe we are in more. I put in for all 3 crops, but not sure if I want to keep them. I heard that you don't get much space to work. But it might be fun to work on some cards or something...

That's what they said when I made the ressie. It's all attached, I called too late for the convention center rooms -wait listed-, the Radisson is older.

I'm glad I was able to get the room, because I think last year there were problems as the convention center had another event at the same time. I don't really care if it's older. I just want a place to crash. I figure I won't be in the room much anyway.

There really wasn't anything close by, like walking distance in the way of a Wawa or anything like that. I like to get sammies for lunch or something that is not "convention" priced...ya know? I'm thinking about bringing a cooler for coldcuts or something.

ValDisney
04-29-2007, 10:39 AM
great idea about the cooler. since I'm taking alot of classes, i would like to bring lunch with me. As long as the room is clean , i don't care that its older. I'm glad I was able to get the group rate. Last yr i waited too long and both convention hotels were sold out. I stayed at the hilton. it was very close but you had to drive.

My lunch break is anytime between 10:50 - 1:50. Do you all have a block of time for lunch during that time?

I'm going through the supply lists this week. It doesn't look like we will have Lisa Bearnson this year :confused3 I've been checking QVC, and didn't see her scheduled...usually she is there Wednesday and then comes to CKC on Thursday. I loved her class last year... bummed...

think I can convince DH to take the kids for the weekend?

:confused3 Think appealing to him about how you would love some "Me" time not "Mom" time would work? When my kids were little, my DH would go on hunting or fishing trips, and I had to find care if I was working, but I usually just took vacation...so my 1 sewing convention a year wasn't even an issue. I just told him when it was, and he took vacation...

One of the perks of having older kids is that it isn't an issue anymore :teeth: I get "Me" time whenever I want these days :cloud9:

my me time is scrapping at Lisa's. Plus I don't know his work schedule for that week. Next week he's in Omaha but I don't know what happens after that.
They did still have a few classes left that I would like to take. I'll talk to him tonight, maybe he will come with me! He can visit friends and go to Valley Forge with the boys.

No prob about the brain lapse...I was just hoping that it got there OK.

The company is Lickety Split Scrapbooks. I didn't see a Chip & Dale book on the site, but that doesn't mean that it won't be at the show... I saw the Disney book, and a Princess book...really cute, I might have to get it at the show for me, as I am a princess (in my own little world :rotfl2: )

I'm going to the vendor faire on Saturday (darn new job keeping me from signing up for anything else). I've never been to one of these so what is your best advice for getting through there well - what sorts of things do they show? Will there be good stuff left when it opens Saturday morning (I"m planning to be there half an hour or so earlier than it starts - I'm an hour away). I don't have a lime green mickey but may have to find or make one to find my fellow scrappers/swappers!

There really wasn't anything close by, like walking distance in the way of a Wawa or anything like that.

So funny to see a reference to a WaWa - you must be from the area - we are the only ones who know what a WaWa is!

I traveled for 9 years for work and when I'd mention a wawa people thought I was nuts!

Love love love King of Prussia, mom remembers when it was a rinky dink mall but the only place to go back to school shopping.

But DH on his own, out in public, with 4 kids, fat chance! LOL
We have some friends that live near KoP mall and they have 2 boys, they can hang. Still haven't talked to him much tonight though so I have no idea where he'll be that week. If I can't go then I will try for next year.

Cape May Courthouse, and I'm not sure if it was you or someone else from Jersey that had asked. We only lived there til I was 4 (military) but Mom is from there so we visit her family in the summer. In fact she is headed down on Sat. We hang in Wildwood, Rio Grande area. My aunt used to own an italian bakery in Wildwood, so we hit the boardwalk all the time and we like to go into Cape May to shop. We also eat at this fab little seafood place in Cape May, Dry Dock is the name I think. Apparently we went there a lot when I was little so we go back every summer to eat there.

Super Wawa, is that the ones with the Subway inside? that is the one we got.

Well that's about as 'South' Jersey as you can get! I don't think it was me - I would have rememberd a shore town. I'm about 45 min north/west of that - half hour from Philly. The super wawas near us have gas stations and more inside but I've never seen one with a subway yet - of course I try to stay out for fear of buying tastykakes!

At least with the LGMH you can be pretty sure you're approaching a DIS'er. Last year I went up to someone wearing a lime green T-shirt & asked if she was a DIS'er. (She'd been kind of staring at me for a few minutes - trying to get a look at the LGMH tag on my bag.) It turned out she was not only NOT a DIS'er, but she already thought I was weird because of my tag! :lmao: She couldn't get away from me fast enough!

A few minutes later Nicurn came up to me & introduced herself so I didn't have long to think about feeling weird. ;) (I was looking for Nicurn at the time I spoke to the other lady.)

My friend and I are going to scope out the place on Thursday. I remember there being a really nice lounge area with a coffee table and huge chairs. We will probably end up there...that's where I ate my snack last year. If you can't do outside, then we wont do outside.

Last year I met Tiggerdisney for about a min before class...I haven't seen her around the board this year though. Too funny about the lime green shirt...I saw alot of people with LG items last year too...I kept thinking DISer? I agree, we are safe with the Mickey head...even if we look a little weird. I seem to remember the rep from Lickety Split Scrapbooks saying that the Disney board books are limited quanties. I know the Chip and Dale was last years "model". I don't know if they'll have extras in the booth. (Boy isn't that a happy piece of info...)

Anyway, I am going too! With my MIL - Daisydu. We are only going on Saturday though. I am taking a class (Brag in a Bag) on Friday night because a friend is teaching it. But we are planning on shopping all day Saturaday and then staying for the crop. Was there any talk about getting together on Sat? I'd love to meet up somewhere.

We don't have any plans for Saturday yet (that I can remember anyway. The mind is gone these days). Anyone know if the restaurants at the hotel are any good? Or is there an Applebys or a buffet or something close? We are going to the Saturday crop too (if I can still walk by then). So early dinner would be great if you guys want to meet up. re: DD - Sadly, they don't actually think they can give her any relief. There's no pattern to them really...no food triggers, not hormones... They can't find the cause & literally NONE of the meds have worked - either the preventative or onset drugs.

She's had migraines since she was 6 & unfortunately for her they run in both DH's & my family. A year ago in Feb she got what seemed like a "normal" migraine, but 3 days later it still hadn't gone away. That's when we started seeing doctors. They're calling it "transformed migraine" now - pretty much the same symptoms but without the nausea/vomiting. Okay, I'm about 1 1/2 from Valley Forge and I'm not really interested in going to a crop or taking classes but would be interested in just seeing the booths and what's new. To those of you who have gone to these before:
1. If I go on Saturday, will it be seriously a mob scene? I'm not fond of big crowds.
2. Can I just go and check out the booths or do I have to crop and take classes?
3. If DH goes along, is there anything for him to do? :rolleyes1 It's my birthday and he knows I'd like to do this but I feel guilty dragging him along though I don't want to go alone. And no, none of my friends scrap.

I can't answer to if it's crowded on Saturdays, I haven't been when the vendor faire is open.

I think you can just get a pass for the vendor faire, without taking any classes.

Last year Friday was much worse than Saturday in the Vendor Fair area. It was absolutely mobbed on Fri...I walk with a cane & found it difficult at best...people kicking the cane out from under me, trying to keep from planting it on someone else's foot, etc. Getting close enough to look at things was kind of nuts too.

Saturday it was much easier to both move around & see things - but there was much less to see on Saturday...lots of things sold out!

Yes, you can get a pass just for the vendors - at least you could last year.

Also, last year there was a billiards expo/fair on a different level. Your DH could check to see if something else is going on in the building...as I recall they were selling beer at that expo. ;)

If he's a history buff, Valley Forge Park is right across the street and that mall is like a city! I'm sure there's something there for him to look at. ;)

Also, I doubt now that I'm going to be able to make it for lunch on Friday. If you post when & where I'll just bring a sandwich along if I can make it. DD is still in the hospital & is probably staying over the weekend. I wouldn't feel right coming to KofP and then not going to see her. DH is refusing to go down to the city on Friday & I don't drive the Schuylkill. :(

Totally understandable! Poor DD, still in hospital, that stinks! :wizard: sending PD. Hope she feels better soon!!

I think we are still up in the air about time and location. I'm not taking my puter, so I'll be strictly cell phone this weekend. Sending you a PM with my number...

Is it in the same place each year? New job can't take off but going to shop Saturday.

Was someone checking to see if they could get board book kits? If so and they are there Friday can anyone grab me one? Disney only and I've never done one so it's a new thing - if not, no problem. I can paypal!

My scrappin friend (also a dis fan, haven't been able to hook her onto the boards yet) and I will be there Friday morning. We are staying at the Radisson. I am so excited. We are also in the Disney Board Book class Friday at 3:10. We are doing lots of classes and the vendor faire his year. We decided against the crops, after last years-I spent so much time getting my tote together and dragging it to the crop and I really did not get much scrapping done (Although I do have a reputation for not getting much done at crops, my mouth runs to much) Maybe if I could just be a little more organized and now what I was doing before getting there! It was fun though- lots of give aways! I'll keep my eyes open for the lime Mickey's!

I'm going with my Disney fan friend too. I've talked about the boards, and how amazing the swaps are. I'm taking a few swaps with me for show and tell, and I'll be working on one at the crops. I'm also making her a LGMH for her bag... Can't wait to see everyone!!!

I took the class last year and the directions that come with the book are great. Most of the paper is precut and it comes with everthing - ribbons, brads, diecuts, you name it. All you need is glue. :) Pretty cool.

I'm putting DIS name, real name, cell number and days attending. This is going to be so much fun!! Can't wait to meet everyone. If you are coming to the DIS Meat Meet for lunch on Friday, please send Mar a PM. We will make calls to let everyone know where we are going to be :teeth:

I have 2 LGMH's on my little tool bag, and I'll be at the crops with my Cricut Rolling bag (wasn't it nice of them to make it lime green?) I also made one for my friend to put on her bag too... She might be a DIS newbie by the time we get back (or she might be running the other way :lmao: )

I got home late last night.

There was an accident on 422 (overturned dumptruck) and I missed my first class - I should have been there a few minutes after 8 and got there about 9:15. I was able to get to the classroom as the instructor was cleaning up and did get the page kit and her e-mail in case I had questions - VERY NICE!

I just love, love, love Basic Grey and the BG Latest & Greatest class was great. We used paper from the new lines AND the sponsoring vendors had the new lines at the vendor fair - can't get them anywhere yet. Now you know where I spent all my $, lol.

Met Debbie and her friend Lisa for lunch, which we all enjoyed. I think the other people around us were jealous. :rotfl2:

My next class was by littleblackdressdesigns and the instructor was unable to come due to her DD being involved in a car accident and needing surgery. Her partner was there (never taught the class before) and you could tell she was just managing to keep it together. I still have a lot to do to finish the book but they had a lot of neat products I will have to order some of the fiber we used. I have a discount code to use at their website that I can pass along to anyone who is interested.

Then I met back up with Debbie & Lisa for the Disney board book class.
Those books are great! I already have most of the paper we used ~ the Reminisce, Magic line. I just order a bunch of blank board books so I can make more for our 2008 trip. I know my DD and her best friend (that is joining us, unbeknownst to DD) are going to love them too! I will scan the instructions Monday and anyone who wants them can pm me.
A great place to order blank books is http://www.alphastamps.com/collageitemsbooks.html (3 for $9.95) and they take Paypal.

The three of us met up again at the Friday night crop and had a blast! The vendors at CKC had a great bag of goodies for each of us :cool1: and lots of fantastic prizes. My name was drawn :yay: near the end of the night but not for an outright prize ~ I had to participate in a game. A game called 'chubby bunny'. A game I've never heard of before. Any of you that are familiar with this game are now probably laughing and I think I'll just make the rest of you wait for Debbie to post the pictures.:lmao: Unfortunately I didn't win, but I did get a set of stickers for 2nd place.
They called a few more names and then Debbie's. She got a prize without having to do a thing! No fair! :rotfl: She won a Revolution (die-cutter) alphabet.

Overall the classes were a great value and I had a fantastic time. It's going to be a 'must do' every year now!

~ I had to participate in a game. A game called 'chubby bunny'!

OMG! That is just too funny! I was there last night and saw everyone playing 'chubby bunny'! At least you made it to 2nd!

I also had my name called - twice actually. The first time for a stamping kit and the second time for the banana/orange game! I think I was the most embarrassed person in the room because I had absolutely no idea why my name was called and just jumped out of my seat! Little did I know that we had to do something to win and then I had no idea what we were playing for. The poor women at my table (and the 2 from other tables) never had a chance. I was laughing so hard I couldn't even play!

I won the stamping kit early in the night. It was a breast cancer survivor's kit - actually could be used for overcoming any challenge - it was just sooo weird because I am a bc survivor still battling away and when I got to the announcer I said, 'that's too funny - I'm a survivor!' (I have never won anything before.) She asked 'can I tell them?" and I said sure. It was nice to have people clapping and smiling at me.

We did 4 classes and 2 crops. All the classes were well done - altho our favorite was a 3-D scapebook presented by SEI and a 2-page layout with acrylic by Lickeysplit. We did the crop on Thursday and Friday night. The Thursday crop was just too fast and I would have preferred to just work on my own things.

Next year we plan on staying for the full 3 nights (versus 2) and only going on the vendor floor on Friday. It was so nice being able to walk the floor and look at what each vendor had to offer. Today it was just too difficult to get through and the lines were just too long. I also think we will skip the Thursday night crop and do a class or two. I'm sitting at home wishing I was getting ready for the Saturday night crop.

This was my third year going and I do think it gets better each year. (Even the food and bathroom situations were much better than last year!) The only issue we had was that they moved our reservation from the Scanticon to the Radisson even though the reservation was made 8 months ago. Not a big deal other than having to walk back and forth between the hotels. Now I just have to finish all the different projects I bought!

Just got home, we had such a great time! The Disney Board Book by Lickety Split Scrapbooks was great and I also loved Canned Memories Class by Boxer scrapbooks- they also sell the kits, we made a great Disney book in a DVD tin. My friend also won an extra Disney Board Book as a door prizeat the LS class.

Other classes that were fantastic were the Basic Gray- Latest and Greatest. We made four very cool layouts all using the brand new BG lines that are not available yet! The papers are beautiful. We also were able to purchase them at the booth- Embellist It!- and they are going to have them available through there web site soon. I really love the Mellow, Periphery and the school lines (can't recall the line of the school papers). Brag- in a- Bag was great also, we made a cute little board book and sprayed/ inked a little matching bag.

I was not impressed by the class by Little Black Dress Designs. I really felt bad for the instructor that was unable to be there because of her daughter being seriously injured, but the class was really poor and disorganized. We used phone book pages to alter a tag book and make an album, I really did not enjoy it. I wish we aould have had the oppurtunity to either cancel the class or reschedule for something different.

I loved the vendor faire, they seemed to have a lot of newer products than I remember finding at CKC- VF last year. We went Friday AM with early entry and had two hours to shop before our first class. I would make more time for shopping Friday morning in the futre. Many of the products sold out quickly by Friday afternoon/ evening. I was going to pick up a Bind- It- All machine with 12 pack of rings (64.99) in the morning but figured I'd check out more of the faire first, when I returned later in the day they were gone. It is a great machine for making books though and I will be ordering one.

We did have trouble with the hotel, our room was booked several months ago at the Raddisson (double room), all that was left at check-in was a King room and they were out of roll aways, we spoke with a manger who was less than helpful and unable to accomadate us any other way so we ended up sharing a king bed. The air conditioning wasn't working well either.

CKC- Valley Forge really was a great time overall, one huge improvement would be more space in the classes, they really sandwich you in with very liitle elbow room to work and it was next to impossible to find a cup of coffee! When we finally did, it was $3.50 a cup!

We will definately return next year and will stay Thursday and Friday night., and start classes later on Friday to have more time at the vedor faire.

It was a fatal accident, the mother of her Daughter's best friend was killed and Tina's daughter has a severly fractured arm and leg. I don't know any other details. Though she was having surgery Friday morning and Tina's partner got called during my class with the news that the surgery went well and Tina's DD was alert and doing fine.

My MIL and I just got home after spending all day at the convention. We spent way too much money, but it is all for swaps. :rolleyes1 We also got to meet Debbie. So much fun! We each won a prize - although they weren't impressive prizes. I got a 3 envelope set and my MIL got a magazine. We each got about 10 pages down, so it was worth it!

Debbie told me about your Chubby Bunny experience, Marlynn. I can't wait to see the pictures! :)

I'm just back too! So nice to go and meet all my DIS friends!!! My friend and I had a great time! Overview is that I loved all my classes, didn't leave enough time for shopping, glad I went to the crops, and they need a better restaurant at the Raddison. We are already planning next years trip.

I'll get my things together and take pics, and post my class reviews too...but the pics of Marlynn...priceless!!!

Meeting marlynnp, Mickster, DaisyDu, ValDisney, and missesdisney was so much fun!! And Brittney from Creating Keepsakes saw my LGMH and knew what it meant! SO FUNNY!!! Someone in her family is involved in the boards too!

Yes, Tina from LBD wasn't there, but Tamera (sp?) tried her best on such short notice. I thought she was great, and liked my project alot. She came by our table at the crop last night and told us that Tina's daughter was already up and they were making her walk on the boo boo...and she was grouchy and grumbling, and everyone thinks she is on the road to recovery. Very sad for all involved though...and sending PD to her for a speedy recovery! Tina called while we were talking, and we all got to yell "HI" and that we missed her...

Anyway, My suitcase is so heavy with stuff (don't tell DH :rolleyes1 he's still at the beach) that I have to unpack some to get it in the house :rotfl2:

We loved the Thursday night album crop. Did you guys like that one?
