For those who are interested reuters posted the following report on 5th April:

Disney gives gay couples 'Fairy Tale Weddings'
Walt Disney allows same-sex couples to enjoy popular marriage tradition by adding commitment ceremonies to policy.
April 5 2007: 7:20 PM EDT

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -- The Walt Disney Co. has changed its policy to allow same-sex couples to participate in a popular Fairy Tale Wedding program it runs mainly at its two U.S. resorts and cruise line, a Disney spokesman said Thursday.

Disney previously had allowed gay couples to organize their own weddings or commitment ceremonies at rented meeting rooms at the resorts, but had barred them from purchasing its Fairy Tale Wedding package and holding the event at locations at Disneyland and Walt Disney World that are set aside specifically for weddings.

"We are updating our Fairy Tale Wedding guidelines to include commitment ceremonies," Disney Parks and Resorts spokesman Donn Walker said. "This is consistent with our policy of creating a welcoming, respectful and inclusive environment for all of our guests."

Walker said the change was prompted by "an inquiry from a guest that asked about this service."

Disney had allowed gay couples to take part in its vow renewals program but excluded them from buying wedding packages by requiring a valid marriage license from California or Florida, which do not permit or recognize gay marriages.

Last month, gay Web site AfterElton.com criticized Disney for not allowing same-sex couples to participate in the Fairy Tale Weddings and Honeymoons program.

Disney's Fairy Tale Wedding packages start at $8,000 and include a wedding planner, the ceremony, food and beverages, flowers and table decorations.

The Lavish Wedding Option also includes a ride to the ceremony in the Cinderella coach, costumed trumpeters heralding the couple's arrival, and attendance by Mickey and Minnie Mouse characters dressed in formal attire.

Disney (Charts) has come under fire from religious conservatives, including the Southern Baptist Convention, which have accused the company of promoting a gay agenda.

The groups, which lifted an eight-year boycott of Disney in 2005, had criticized the company for such corporate policies as giving health benefits to same-sex partners of employees, allowing "Gay Day" celebrations at its theme parks and airing a prime time television show on its ABC network featuring openly gay comedian Ellen DeGeneres.

"We are not in the business of making judgments about the lifestyle of our guests. We are in the hospitality business and our parks and resorts are open to everyone," Walker said.

As I posted on the Gay and Lesbian board I think this is excellent news. It means that all couples who want to celebrate are able to do so :goodvibes

Sad :headache:

Suffice to say not everyone in the world finds this good news, but this is not the forum to discuss those differences

ah Deb, how sweet. NO! :lmao: (how does Matron of Honour suit? - please get Matt to wear a powder blue page boys outfit)!

It's not something I'd take advantage of myself but I'd defend anyone who wanted to do so themselves. I dislike the term 'gay marriage' as it's not a marriage - it's a comitment. I think that this is why some have a problem with the concept of people who love one another registering that comitment.

I always thought religion was about love. But you may be right - this is not the place to discuss it. Having read the Bible in the original - not in a biased translation - I do know that NOWHERE in the New Testament does it say being gay is a bad thing. Jesus didn't mention it once I thinkj it says it once in the Old Testament. Along with mixing different fabrics and not letting women do anything! However, I'm not going to get into a theological debate.

For those who don't see this as a good thing let me quote the now sadly defunct programme SOAP. Do you remember it? They took it of air for being 'immoral' (this is the Country that gave us Dynasty and *******). One of the male characters came out to his mother.

Mum, "I don't get it. Whys is everyone gay all of a sudden?"
Son, " Mom, pepole have been gay throughout history. Michalengelo was gay, Alexander the Great was gay, Plato was gay"
Mum, "No! I can't believe it. Don't say that. It's not true"
Son, "Mom, Plato WAS gay"
Mum - horrified, "I can't believe it...you're telling me that Mickey Mouse's dog was gay????"

Whilst I agree that same sex couples shouldn't be excluded from having commitment ceremonies, I really don't understand the 'Gay Days' thing  Nor do I think it is necessary.

Me neither! For me it's all about inclusion!

Dis-sers stand with me while I form a pressure group to make Disney have a day for people with green eyes. We shall be victorious!

Disney didn't create and doesn't sponsor Gay Days. It's just an event that private citizens like you or me organize and happen to hold at WDW. It's not an official event and Disney as a corporation is not involved in any way.

You can have "Green Eye Days" anytime you want! Just start a website, get folks together, order matching T-shirts and there you go!
