DIS MEET Goofeys Galley by the Mickey Pool (Deck 9) 10:00AM June 2, 2008
Things to remember to bring and or happening at the meet:
*Post Cards for Adults (From your state and with your info on it)

**Post Cards for Kids

DIS Fun Going on during the Cruise
*Mickey door Tag: To be put on the list to play this PM sandysplayhouse with your name and room number. She has offered to compile a list and hand it out at the meet. thanks Sandy

**Scrapbook Exchange - Paper, stickers, emblishments like clips, buttons, yarn, ribbon, and some really cool things that were especially made by the scrapper for our cruise for scrapbooking. I tell you, some people are VERY talented (not me) but we had fun chatting and looking at other peoples pages and got lots of ideas from everyone. You bring 5 you take 5 etc.

*Fish Extenders – We will be putting little things in them through out the cruise. Like, Paper, Pencils, stickers, etc. To do this we can use the list that Sandy will compile for the Mickey door magnet.

Fish Extender Gifts - This can be EVERY day or you pick a day to distribute all your gifts. There really is no set rule for gift-giving, it is up to you as to what and how much you want to give... each to their own accord. Right now there are not many DISers that have signed up so the roster is quite small... so we could do it everyday... if there are many more that sign up, then we could do it all on one day and just lump our gifts in the Extenders on whatever day you choose. Bear in mind that it is a lot of fun to find something in your extender EVERY day.

I just booked my cruise this evening-for myself and DS (9) and DD (7)-they don't know yet. I will suprise them soon! This is our 2nd cruise-our first was the 1st double dip cruise in May 2006. I will miss Castaway Cay! But I am excited to cruise the Pacific!

I was disappointed that the 2nd seating is already booked up-my DD did not do well with second seating last year.

Have a great evening!:)

I have always booked through DCL. I know if you go on the regular discussion part of DCL forum you will see allot of people use them. I have heard nothing but good things about them. My son will be with us but he is going to be 22 by the time we take the cruise. He loves Disney. We cancelled a trip to SSR for July of this year because he cannot go.
This is the first time I have used Disney Vacation Club to book a cruise. For me the amount was the same as booking through DCL. We joined DVC on are last cruise in 2006.:boat:
You have your hands full with boys that age. But I do love that age. I will tell you thought they grow up before you know it. I don’t know were the time has gone with mine. I only have one.;)

Maria, I agree 500.00 is a good amount of money. It will pay for your tips. We had 200.00 the last time and I loved it. We are in a Cat 6. What cat. are you in? I also do not blame you for checking things out before you switch. Better safe then sorry.

Cat. 7,I wanted to have some kind of verandah and 7 was the cheapest. We had to get 2 rooms cause there's 6 of us so that made it even more expensive but it's ok, I know it will all be worth it. I am so glad I found this board, it helps control my excitement! My husband is probably sick of me talking about all the info I've read and it's a over a year away:cutie:

I am on this board all the time. So talk to me any time you want. I know I drive my husband nuts with this. Yes, in my option it is well worth it. On are first cruise we had a window, then on are 2nd and 3rd we had a balcony. I can not go back now. I love going out there when we are at sea and just sitting there. Also, at night. It is very relaxing. We try to cruise every two years.

We started out on a 3day then went to a 4day and then a 7 day. Now I can't go back.

I am new here, just registered. But I have been reading the boards obsessively. this is our first Disney Cruise, we are in CA and now that it is back on the West Coast i told my husband that we HAVE to go. It is me, my husband, our 3 kids, and my mother. Our kids will be 7, 5 and 3 at the time of the cruise. I know you are supposed to post DH, DS, DD, DD. but I'm still a newie, so I'll just leave it as is. ;)

Just came back from our 2nd cruise, Eastern, and booked our third on this route. We're from Victoria, so it will be that much more convenient! Its about $1100 more, but I figure we'll save that in airfare.

We're on deck 6, cat. 11, 2 rooms as we're a family of 5. Its worked for us (kids in one room), but I wouldn't mind an upgrade!

So its me, DH (both 44 at time of sailing), and 3 boys, Nicholas 12, Aidan 9 and Jaren 6.

I'm glad to join the group!

Anyone planning on going to DL first? I've been trying to figure out what the rates might be but no such luck.

The tranfers will be $59 return.

I'm already excited and I just got back on Sunday.

Call me crazy!

:welcome: I know what you mean! We try and cruise every other year. We are on Deck 6 to in a cat 6. :wizard: for an upgrade. We are trying to decide if we are going to come in before to to go to Disney Land. We went there about 6 years age. I like WDW the best. We also can not decide about transers. We checked into limos and they come out about he same. I also send DCL an e mail. I wanted to know if they have an arangement with a hotel like in FL of you stay at the Hyat. I am waiting for an answer.

I have also added your name to the list.

We have been booked on this cruise for a while and I'm glad to see we are not alone!! This is our first Mexican Riviera and there are four of us-me, DH, DD 8, DS 5 at the time of the cruise. We are planning to visit DL either before or after (I mean you just have to right?) since we have never been.

I can't believe we have just over a year to wait. We are going to WDW in two weeks so hopefully that will help the time pass by quicker. :goodvibes

I'm on the West Coast and I forget that DVC is on East Coast time so by the time I called to book our rooms, guess what.. too late, call back tomorrow. :furious: So again, I missed getting my reservation... I know there are plenty of rooms available, but it is frustrating to have to wait.. now that I have decided to go on THIS cruise, I want my reservation number. LOL... So tomorrow MORNING I'm setting my alarm so I can call DVC while they are still open.
Wish me luck.

We're coming too! This will be our 3rd cruise. We were on the very FIRST West Coast cruise 2 years ago. It was our 2nd wedding anniversary. Then in '06 we were on the first 10 night Caribbean Cruise and I was about 6 weeks pregnant. DH had just returned home from Iraq. Now on this cruise our DD will be just over 1. So exciting. And once again...DH will just be getting home from Iraq when we sail. He hasn't left yet and we are not looking forward to that. We're waiting for Sandysplayhouse (DM) to book tomorrow so we can book together.

This is a picture of our entire party on the sail away party in 2005 that some Disser took from the dock. They posted it on the boards with the caption "Who are these crazy people???" LMBO

About Door Tag...
Someone... (me) puts a cute Mickey shaped "tag" on your door... it stays on your door for a few hours then you place it on another DIS'ers door... there is a list that goes with the tag that you add your room number/name to so that we don't double tag a door

I can not believe there is so little traffic on this thread when the ship is suppose to be almost sold out... Can there possibly be another thread? I have searched but can't find another... Where is everyone? :confused3 :sad2:

BTW...This is Sandy posting from Brandy's house. :surfweb:

I thought that maybe that is what it was! Sounds like fun.

I did not know that the ship was almose sold out. I keep checking DCL and there are still rooms.

I am always on this thris thread. I did not find one either that is why I started this one. I did the one for are cruise in 2006 and that one is still gooing. We try and go ever other year.

I tryed to get on last night but I got a blank screen.

I was not on all day because my son moved into an apartment ofr his senior year in college (next year) and we moved everyting from the dorm. Then he decied to move into a building on the 4th floor with no elivator. It was fun. Oh well what are you going to do.

Maybe more and more people will join. I noticed that in the last two week we have had a fer.

Yes. Something I've always done before also is we all go into Home Depot and get one of the "Alien Green" Disney Paint swatches (in the shape of a Mickey Head) and you write your name on it and turn it into a name badge for sail away.

Know what I'm talking about??

Tell me what you usually put on the door (how many would you need) and also the Fish extenders (what would we put). Also, would this be every day? I can stat to look for things now. Hi Flo...
Yes, sorry, I've been distracted and away from the boards...

Door Tag ...we use a Mickey Shaped magnet and write the word "tag" on it... usually just one is enough... but just in case Dora's friend "Swiper" is on board, perhaps there should be 2... the list and the extra tag will be in a baggy that is also stuck to the door and as soon as one finds the tag on the door, you write your door number on the list and try to put it on someone else's door so that everyone can get tagged, this being a short cruise, if someone keeps the tag for a whole day, not everyone will get tagged. OR... instead of a list, we can put a cruise roster in the baggy an just scratch your stateroom off the roster when you get tagged.
Cruise Roster ...I volunteer for this.... I will keep a roster of everyone and their room numbers and will hand this out during our onboard PreSail-Away meet... how's 3pm?... I suggest we meet on deck 9 by Scoops... that way the kiddos and grown-ups can have ice cream while everyone chats.
The roster helps you with door tag and the fish extender gifts... otherwise you don't know who you are tagging or gifting...
Fish Extenders...
hummmm,...... lets see...
www.orientaltrading.com (http://www.orientaltrading.com) and your local $1 store has a plethora of goodies.
Usually we give and we get stickers, pencils, pens, buttons, magnets, scrapbook supplies, post cards, CD's, necklaces, anteana balls, rings, scarves, eye patches, ear-rings, most items are cruise or pirate related or Disney themed, a few things are not. These things are distributed though out the cruise so that each day you have surprises on your door or fish extender.
Pirate Night
Is everyone dressing up for Pirate Night...
This is SUCH a fun day, dinner, night... Our family goes all out... we dress up, put on tattoos and eye patches, hooks and ear rings... and of course we have to say Arghhhh to everything... so in true Pirate fashion
ARRRRRRGHHHHH you dressing up for Pirate Night?

Sounds like fun! Do we have a Mickey Ear?>Cruise Roster ...I volunteer for this.... I will keep a roster of everyone and their room numbers and will hand this out during our onboard PreSail-Away meet... how's 3pm?... I suggest we meet on deck 9 by Scoops... that way the kiddos and grown-ups can have ice cream while everyone chats.
Schoops and 3pm is fine. I will add to the beginning.
The roster helps you with door tag and the fish extender gifts... otherwise you don't know who you are tagging or gifting...
Thanks for keeping up the roster, I will e mail you my room number. Don't like putting that on a public board.
I like that Ieda. When I saw orieltaltrading I started to laugh. I am always buying from them. I love them. I can start now with the $$ store and then look at them.
Pirate Night
Is everyone dressing up for Pirate Night...
I don't have any pirate clothes. Love your picture. What I do do is go to orieltal trading and buy things to wear. I may also buy some t shirts from disney.com. They have some on sale right now.

We also love Disney and are HUGE fans of anything Disney. This will be our 3rd cruise and all with DCL and we are VERY excited. I am traveling with my DH and DS... our DD, DSIL and DGD (enchantedplayroom) are also coming along as well as several other friends of the family... we will be a large fun group and love to meet new people.

I have already started getting stuff for my door signs! And my DH has given up on my being crazy... he KNOWS I am NUTS about Disney. When I told him we were going on another cruise, he asked when it was and I said June and he actually got excited... he thought it was next month! LOL... talk about disappointment when he realized it was a year away! :lmao:

OK...
Just thought of another thing to do...
Post Card Exchange for the kids...
What you do is...
After we have an accurate count of the kids and their ages...
EACH child bring post cards from their home town and signs the back of the cards with their name...
Then at the 3pm Pre-Sail Away meet, each child gives their cards to each of the other children in their age group...
That way each child ends up with several cards, one from each of their new friends and will remember where they are from...

Cute idea or what?
I can't take credit... I saw others doing it and was jealous that I didn't have a child to do it with so I could have the cards! :lmao: :rotfl:

Sandy,
Your poor husdand:lmao: I think if that would have happend to me I would have cried.
That is a good Idea with the post cards for the kids. They could also put there e mail address on it if they have one and can talk to each other that way.
On my last cruise the adults did the post cards. We each brought a post card from the state that we were from and wrote are names and address and e mail addresses on them so that we could exchange Christmas Cards and so on. I even have one from the UK.
I had pens made for are cruise with the date and info on it so that when you got back you had something. I think I am going to do this again.

Appropriate Pirate Attire.... pirate:
On our first Disney Cruise I wasn't sure how many people would be dressing up and I didn't want to spend a lot of $ on Pirate clothes. Silly me right? LOL
Anyway, I went to my local thrift store and found a cheap pair of black pants and a white tuxedo/prom shirt and a black vest... all for under $5...
Earrings, eye patch, a parrot, and a scarf from www.orientaltrading.com (http://www.orientaltrading.com) and my outfit was complete...
My DH, DS, and DSIL and DNephew all wore Pirate T-shirts and their own jeans... some big belts and a few trinkets from www.orientaltrading.com (http://www.orientaltrading.com) and they were all set.
We had a blast and I didn't spend a lot of money.

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i257/sandysplayhouse/a261dc95.jpg
On our second cruise, we bought pirate hats and other things from Disneyland
I even had shirts and vests made for my DH, DS and DSIL...
they were awesome and we all had a blast.

Sandy,

That is a good Idea with the post cards for the kids. They could also put there e mail address on it if they have one and can talk to each other that way.

What some parents did was let simular aged kids talk to each other THRU the parents email addresses BEFORE the cruise... that way the kids would already know each other when they arrived and they would already have a friend and also be more willing and eager to go to the kids club. :thumbsup2

We also dressed up on our cruise (it was a 4 day) but we were almost the only ones dressed up! We also went to the thrift store and got really cool stuff. My dh wore a ladies fru-fru blouse and it looked perfect. We have pictures of that night but I didn't take ONE of him!

We plan on dressing up again.

Have any of you been to Mexico? I'm still debating whether or not to book excursions through DCL or save money and book on our own.

I have never been to Mexico. So I can not waite.:woohoo: I found the excursions that Disney offered when they were in CA that last time. I downloaded them just to get an Idea of they had.
The only reason I book through Disney is if something happens and they get cancelled you don't get charged. Like if we can not make that port. But I have heard that some of the ones booked on your own you get nothing.

We went on the first DCL West Coast Cruise to Mexico in 2005...
it was awsome to see the Magic pull into port in LA Harbor. This was our first cruise.
We booked our excursions thru Disney and did not have any problems or bad experiences...
In Cabo, we toured on our own... just took taxi's and walked around... ate at the restaurants and shopped...
it was the most fun we had and we didn't feel rushed or hassled by locals.
The only BAD thing I have to report is that it was HOT in Mazatlan... :sad2:
and I mean awful HOT... Africa Hot... and it was only May...
I can't imagine what it will be like in June...
I might just stay on the ship in that port.

Thanks for the tip on Mazatlan.:thumbsup2 Maybe that is were I will let my son and Husband go Scuba diving. They are going to get certified next month so they can do this. They cannot wait. Then I can have the day to myself.:surfweb: I do agree with booking through Disney they are great. In the three cruises we were on we have never had a problem. If something was cancelled they refunded are on board account. How were the rest of the ports? Also, good to hear about the locals.

Mazatlan was my LEAST favorite place, but probably because I was having a heat stroke... I don't like to be hot... silly me, just not my idea of fun. Although I can only blame myself for the experience... to begin with, I booked a WALKING TOUR of Old Mazatlan... I thought we were going to be doing a SHORT walk thru some shopping district where we would be allowed to just meander around and buy things... but NO... this was a REAL WALKing tour of the OLD city... and I mean OLD... oldest buildings, churches, bakery, book store... stuff like that and OLD meaning NO Air Conditioning...DUH... Never do that again... for one, I don't particularily like walking anywhere when I can ride... then it was a very HOT day and we were not given time to stop, shop or EAT... so on top of sweating to death, we were starving... and I was not the only one... everyone in our group was complaining... AND to top this off... during the walking tour, we had to Watch where we stepped as there was Dog Doo on the sidewalks! :scared1: And I'm not joking about this.. there was Dog Doo at least every 5 or 10 feet!... there were signs all over the streets, in English and Spanish, telling people to PICK UP the Doo, but I don't think anyone in Mazatlan can read because there was Doo all over the place.

PLUS... due to some migratory happening or mating season or something, there were LOTS of jelly fish in the waters... my SIL went kayaking and fell in the water and she could see the jelly fish all around her.. lots of people got stung, luckily she did not, but she was very freaked out.... so tell your DH and DS to be careful while scuba diving,... wear wetsuits.

Puerta Vallarta was nice... we booked the zip line excursion and it was SO MUCH FUN... something I have always wanted to do and I'm glad I did it before I got too old AND too FAT! LOL

Cabo was the cleanest and prettiest place... very touristy and everything I wanted to see and do and buy in Mexico was here. Very nice, but too short.. this port is where we had the least amount of time. I hope they have revised the schedule and give us more time in Cabo this trip.

I remember reading about the mexican excursions somewhere, but I can't remember where. There was a description and a price and I was sooo excited, that's why I booked this cruise.

Can anyone send me to this site?

Also, the group planning things are great, but hey the cruise isn't for 1 year today! (Hurrah)

We'll go over everything closer to the time right? I can't keep all that stuff straight!

I was considering moving to another date, but I love how friendly everyone is on this thread that we've decided to stay put!

Scrapbook Exchange...
On our last cruise a bunch of us took our scrap supplies to sit and scrap... which we never did do...
BUT we did do an exchange... we brought cruise or Disney related items to give to each other... we spread out our stash on a table and everyone took what they wanted... If you brought 5 things then you took 5 things... honor system was in place and for the most part everyone was honorable, there was a NON-DISer family that crashed our gathering and they were touching all our things but I'm not sure if anything was taken as I was unaware that they were Non-DISers...
Anyway, it was fun and everyone walked away with loads of stuff... paper, stickers, emblishments like clips, buttons, yarn, ribbon, and some really cool things that were especially made by the scrapper for our cruise for scrapbooking. I tell you, some people are VERY talented (not me) but we had fun chatting and looking at other peoples pages and got lots of ideas from everyone.

So who is up for this? :cutie: I certainly am and I hope that there are others as well... please let me know so we can make another list and set up a time and place to meet.

Hi, I am confused on the fish extenders?? :confused3

Do we make a fishing pole and put it outside our room?

It was mentiond that everyday we would trade (or receive a surprise), how does that work?

I know my kids 7, 5, 3 would love to participate, and pass stuff out, and receive a new surprise daily, and we are going to make a different magnet for every day. I have to read up on those threads as to how to do it.

We are going to Disneyland in Sept. so I am going to get all the good pirate stuff. A Disneyland Resort outlet store opened near us, and they sell all the merchandise from the Disney Resort. If anyone is in need of anything from the 50th anniversay, there is A TON OF STUFF!!! it's all so cheap too. Sad. Those autograph books that were 15.00 are 2.00 (roughly)

But if anyone can help with the fish extenders, thanks.

I am excited, only a year away too.

Hey, how do some people make the cool banners that say ex: Cruising with the Caballeros" or one says Pirates of Theives with the pirate logo?

where can I get the countdown ticker? So excited!!!!!!

I booked our own excursions, and we are going to just chill and walk around at times. I do want to hit the beach in Cabo, and my Aunt said Mazatlan is the shrimp capital of the world, there is the best shrimp there. Mazatlan Frank suggested Tony's I think, he has a thread going too.

So excited!!!!

Mendoza5: The Fish extenders are little fish that are outside every cabin door. They look like a door Knocker but are like binder clips. You can put little things inside of them. I don’t have little ones and I like the idea of surprises out side the door. Lets face it we are all kids at heart. Hope this helps.

The Fish Extenders are actually hanging pocket organizers that hang from the fish that is outside your stateroom door...
From time to time, DCL leaves you notes on the fish... which is its actual purpose... but we DISers hang our pocket organizer on the fish therefor it becomes a "fish extender" because it makes the fish able to hold more things...
The pockets is where other DISers leave you little gifts... like stickers, pencils, magnets, post it notes, necklaces, glow sticks, candy, or just about pretty much anything...
It is so much fun to come back to your room to find a cute something in your extender. Some DISers decorate their extenders according to things they like... others just leave them as they purchased them... some are very creative and personalized.
I had a very hard time finding one until someone suggested Ebay... I did a search for hanging pocket organizer or 3 pocket organizer and 5 pocket organizer... if you want to get real specific.. you can search for a DISNEY hanging pocket organizer. That is how I found mine....
This is picture of the fish next to the stateroom door...
Ignore my pirate husband, see the fish?

Sorry, Flo, but THAT is something I don't know...

When we sailed from LA it was our DD and DSIL 2nd wedding anniversary and we had their room decorated,
champagne and snacks, and later a cake at dinner THRU DCL... and we will be doing the same thing again as it will then be their 5th anniversary.
You might call DCL and see if they have anyone they recommend... I'm sure they could scout that out. Since this is not their home port... they probably don't anyone like Shirley.

And while we are talking about LA NOT being the home port... I just want to say to anyone that has never been to the LA port...
Be prepared... it is NOTHING like Florida... it is very seedy looking and nothing glamorous at all...
I have lived here for over 35 years and I had never been there until 2005 for that cruise and I was shocked and I don't mind saying, a bit nervous driving around thru there.
Just my own honest opinion, but you will see for yourself. One thing I will say is that we did get some great service once IN the port itself... it is just the surrounding area that is creepy.:scared:

Sandy,
I was thinking of calling DCL but then I was woundering if they would suggest any one or want me to buy from them. What I liked about Shirley is you could put beer and wine coolers in the basket. Oh well. I am just happy to be going. Mayber I will order the congrats for the statroom for him.
We are coming in the day before and now I am on a quest to find a room. I am going to check and see if they have any at the airport like Orlando. Thatwas great. I don't want to fly in the day of the cruise. Between Ohare and LAX any thing is possible.

I was interested in knowing more about the fish extenders too, so I typed in "fish extenders" in the "search" box at the top of the thread, and found out who originated them. It's quite an fun read to see that there are alot of Disneyfanatics out there....LOL Looks like I may be next on the list....:rotfl2: Anyway, i was out shopping yesterday and found some fun door decorations at the 99 cent store. Thanks everyone for all the info. Thank you Sandys for the visuals. It was the best way to explain it. I am excited too. I have tried to get a hotel room because we are driving down the night before, and you can get rooms yet, too early.

Thanks again. I am going to be on the hunt for everything now. My mom and I are going to make some fun stuff for the scrap book exchange. So count us in.

:yay: Oooooou I can hardly wait to see what you bring.
I LOVE scrapbooking...I am sort of a newbie at it, but I tend to BUY everything I can find that is Disney related. I have an impressive stash of papers and emblishments... just seems like I can't find the time to put it all together. And now that I have the little grand daughter, I have more reason to scrap, although I have even less time to do it... but eventually I know that I'll get around to it... at least that is what I keep telling myself... but when I do, I know my stash is ready.:)

In 2005, we stayed at the Best Western just across the street from the port. It was very nice and they provide a shuttle to and from the port... we parked our car there instead at the port as I didn't want to hassle with driving ourselves and finding a parking spot in the parking garage. The parking fee was less than the port garage and it included the shuttle back and forth. PLUS, our room faced the water and we got to see the Magic as she pulled in that morning... awesome. I was a bit nervous leaving our cars at the hotel as it is NOT in a garage...just the parking lot of the hotel... and remember that I said it is very seedy looking around the port... but our vehicles were fine, no problems to report and I would park there again.. probably will.

I did a search for hotels at LAX airport and it give me a list of them one was the Radison. I think the room there was 159.00. It is letting you book there so was the Hyatt and the Hilton. Some of them told me 50 weeks out.

Sandy,
I got a Chip and Dale Fish Extender. When you were looking how did you look for it? What did you put in the search? I did any thing and everything and finally coame up with one.

I found hotels across from LAX but the Best Western across from Port sound good. What would that be listed as if I look it up?

I went to the Dollar Story yesterday did not see any thing I liked, but then of course my DH husband was with me. You know how that is. This week or next week I am going to Hobby Lobby.

I searched for storage bag shoes... that takes you to SEVERAL hanging pocket organizers... some with more pockets than you need... and some are too wide... but there are 2 Disney ones... Mickey and Pooh and they are still there. They are a bit pricey... $5.99 or $7.99 Buy it NOW price... PLUS $7 shipping... they always get you on shipping. But you may not find one otherwise. :confused3

When I found the Best Western, I searched on Expedia and Orbitz... I searched under the "near what city"... the city I put was San Pedro... that is the actual name of the city of the port. Then I looked at the map because I wanted something facing the water so I could see the Magic coming in and then I called the hotel itself and specifically asked for a room facing the water.

When my hubby goes shopping with me I go with the understanding that its a "get it and get out mission" ... he is not a shopper and if I'm browsing, he is right there asking "where are you gonna put it?" That is his usual response to something I contemplate... sometimes I tell him exactly where I'd like to put it if he keeps bugging me with his questions... :lmao:

We don't shop together very often. :rolleyes1

First Sandy thanks for the information on the Best Western on the Harbor. :) I called tonight and booked my room for the 31st of May. :woohoo: The night before the cruise. As you said they have the free shuttle to the Port. We just have to take a shuttle from the airport to the hotel. So that is all set. As I have said before I am a planner. You are right about the price. I called one of the other hotels the Crown Plaza and they wanted 279.00 and if we wanted a room facing the Magic that was 329.00.

All the cruise we have been on we took DCL transportation so we did not have to worry about the luggage. So when you get to port what do you do with it. My DH goes take it easy we have time to find out.

Out here, the shuttle takes you right to where you drop off your luggage... just like at the airport when you get dropped off at the curb, same thing here... there are a bunch of Disney people there and they check to make sure you have your tags on each bag and they take it away and you don't see it again until it is in your room. ...sweet. Then you enter the terminal and get checked in... you know the rest... you hang around until time to board... chat with the other DISers and pace back and forth until time to go. :jumping1:

OH... one more thing about the terminal here in LA....

Unlike Florida where Disney built the terminal for their own exclusive use... the one here in LA isn't a Disney terminal "per se"...

There are a few Disney related items schrewn about for you to get the feel of Disney... some huge blow-ups and nice plant arrangements... but for the most part, NOTHING like Florida. My first cruise was out of LA... so I was thrilled to be there and thought everything looked great... little did I know, anyway, I was so excited to be there and wanted to take pictures of EVERYthing and posed my family next to anything Disney and was promptly surrounded by security... you see, you are NOT allowed to take pictures inside! :scared1: :headache: I and several other people were shocked!... how can they put up Disney stuff and expect people NOT to take a picture of it?!... that's like leaving a kid in Toys-R-Us and telling him NOT to touch anything.
Anyway, the security people promptly pointed out that there are signs posted EVERYwhere telling you "NO Photography allowed and your camera will be confiscated!"
I started to argue, but don't like to start trouble and especially with anything Disney related as I know they are right (right?!) ... so of course I put away my camera, ... until the security people left and then I snuck a few more pictures... :tiptoe: I even took a picture of the sign.
How they expect people to go on a cruise like this and NOT take pictures is beyond me...

Actually there are several hotels near by...

I WILL NEVER DO ROYAL CARIBBEAN, OR ENSENADA AGAIN. that's another story, and this is only my opinion. but on the last day on that we were rushed out of our room, and sat in the lobby for an hour and a half until they called our group color. we were like cattle waiting. it was terrible, they could have had a more comfortable wait for thier guests.

what does Disney do for the last morning? how is it handled? I have read several trip reports that say people ate breakfast.

I just LOVE hearing from people that have cruised on other lines just to hear of the "differences".
I can't wait to meet you and hear what you have to say about this trip when it is over.

I am not a good judge for this question as I have only cruised with Disney...
but, ...we did eat breakfast, and managed to take a last minute look-see for pictures at Shutters
and took a quick walk around the ship just to savor the last moments...
I don't remember being rushed off or anything like that...
but then I do tend to wear rose colored glasses when it comes to Disney...

What do you say about this Flo?

Huerita
06-07-2007, 12:29 AM
I have cruised with Royal Carribean twice, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Radisson Seven Seas and Celebrity Cruises. I'm really anxious to see how DCL compares. Of course, this will be the first time I've taken a little one along, but I am expecting some Magicpixiedust:

We have only been on Disney to. I don’t ever remember having to leave at a cretin time. They do have two breakfast times that you have to eat at, but hen you could just sit and enjoy the ship after they. I just think that everyone has to be off by a cretin time. With them you do not have specific times to get off. We usually get off right after breakfast because of are flight time.
As they say I am a Disney snob. I like the Disney way and I always have. As Sandy put it I to wear rose color glasses when it comes to Disney!

I know that a lot of people are still unaware that the Magic is coming back to the West Coast...
Disney is not advertising this and therefore people do not know about it...

Hello-I haven't been reading this thread lately, so I caught myself up today!! Wow-I am excited about all the ideas....fish extenders/treats, scrapbooking, and postcards. I just finished my cruise scrapbook last night (We went on a double dip last year)-which is why I booked another cruise, I started going thru all the pictures, and decided to do it again!! Do I need to sign up somewhere for what we will do for the fish extenders/treats?

PS-at the time of sailing my DS will be 10 and my DD will be 8. I am glad to see other children in our group around the same age. I also have not told them yet-waiting for a few more months-anyone have any creative ideas to tell them about the cruise? I thought about a scavenger hunt....

Have a great evening!!:)

Flo, I'm sure it would have been HAD we gone....

We ended up at the hairdressers for over 2 hours while my daughter got a hair make over. She was depressed about her hair and her overall "after delivery" appearance and needed a make over.
She came out feeling great and loved her hair so it was worth the wait. Unfortunately it was quite late... after 6pm, so we would not have been able to see Mickey nor get Lily's first Mickey shaped balloon... and all of the other "MUST-DO" things on a first time visit. So we post-poned... but we are going for sure next week... probably on Tuesday so get your list ready. :woohoo:

I just checked the Cruise Meets first page, (which we are on BTW)
and we have had 1,724 views as opposed to our now 202 posts...
so SOMEONE is looking at us and checking us out (lurking in the shadows)

Perhaps they are trying to decide if they want to join our ship?
or they DID want to join our ship and have changed their minds
when they saw that we are a bunch of Disney Nuts! pixiedust::joker::hyper2::crazy::hyper::cool1:

We do have that! But I have lived here my whole life so I am kind of used to it. I think we all get used to the weather were ever we live. Also, the electrice company loves us now they see $$$$. But I am on a budget for both electrice and gas. I like to know what I am paying each month.

Hello! Good to hear from you. When we cruised in 2004 the movies and the shows were all Free! Even the Big screen by the Family pool was free. I have never heard of them charging for movies. That was all included in the price of the cruise. I hope that did not change. Maybe they now have movice that you can rent for the TV in the rooms?

I was on a cruise on April 28-May 5 and movies were free. I cannot imagine DCL would charge for movies. There must be a mistake in communication.

I went on a double dip in May 2006 & the movies (Buena Vista Theater or on Deck) were free.......I don't think that Disney would charge for the movies that were on my cruise were not brand new releases. Maybe she meant something else by that?:confused3

Well, well, well…..I’m baaaaaaaaaaaAck :cool1:

I’m exhausted! This has been SUCH an exhausting week off,
That I need a week off to get over it! LOL
We have had a great time with the visiting family
We stayed at the beach for 5 days,
Disneyland one day,
and Downtown Disney another…
We have shopped, laughed, swam, cooked, BarBQ’d, ate out,
and snacked ourselves silly… now we all need stretchy pants! LOL
Through all this, the kids have been great… taking everything in stride
without any meltdowns… real troopers!

Flo, I got your pen… well, actually I bought 3 so you could have a choice..
I”ll send you pictures in a PM and don’t feel obligated to chose one if you don’t like them
as I’d be happy to keep them.

A few pictures to share…

NEW KITCHEN!!!

WOW Flo, I'm totally jealous,
I have been wanting a new kitchen since I got my house! LOL

For almost 15 years now... My DH is always telling me he will do it, but I am a little doubtful of his abilities...

Huerita, please don't EVER tell him I said that... :rotfl:

He can pretty much do anything he decides to do, and things usually end up looking great...
But its the process that I can't take... he hurts himself, he breaks things, he electrocutes himself,
he chops off a finger or two, he has fallen off the roof, dripped paint in his eyes,
slipped a disc, gotten stuck in the attic, banged his head, flooded the WHOLE downstairs,
has measured wrong and chopped things so short that he has had to REbuy a whole new door, carpet, poles, and plexiglass!

He IS my Cajun Tim Allen. :lmao:

They have a 6am flight...
I hope they get out as I just turned on the news and see that Texas is flooding and they have a change of planes in Dallas :sad2:
It does not look good. I've been in Houston when the weather was horrific like this and we sat on the runway for 2 hours waiting for a break in the LIGHTNING to be able to take off! :scared1:
We had a great visit and they are a wonderful family and their kids were great. ages 12, 4, and 4...
They were here for 12 days and I wish they could have stayed longer... that in itself says alot.
More family visiting next week... just for a week...
then another family arrives the week after that for 3 weeks!
July is totally booked for us so if anyone else is coming to visit us, please wait until August! :lmao:

The family made it home safe and sound... :cool1:
all kids and luggage accounted for... I think everyone will agree that makes for a great trip right?
...just thinking about losing my luggage makes me nuts. ... I usually hold my breath until I get all my bags.
I have watched too many shows on MSNBC about luggage handlers and how they riffle thru your bags and swipe cameras, shoes, and jewelry... although WHY someone would put jewelry or a camera in a checked bag is beyond me... seems like they must want it stolen... no offense to anyone who has done this. But come on... the odds of your bags getting lost are bound to catch up with you eventually... so why chance it? I carry all my important stuff with me and ON me. If it is worth something to me, it is going WITH me.
...OK... sorry, I'm rambling... the family got home safely.

Sandy,
Glad you family made it home safe and sound. That makes for a prefect vacation.

I totally agree with the luggage. O’Hare lost are luggage once and it had to be delivered to are house. But that did not happen till two days later. Then in 2006 when we did the DCL 7 night Western they lost one of are suitcases. I had to fill out a report and everything. They did call me at the airport and they found it. They got it to the airport in time for it to make are plane and everything. I was happy for that.

Have a good day.

I plan on scrapbooking ALL weekend...

I've got SO many pictures and SO much STASH to use up...
I'm starting to find it difficult to find reasons as to WHY I need more paper and more stuff
since I have hardly used any :rotfl:
I tend to buy ANY-thing and EVERY-thing that is Disney related and I have almost every pack of
Disney Scrapbooking kits that are sold at the park... and I have YET to use ONE! :sad2:
My DH just shakes his head and smiles at me when I start browsing the scrapbook section of the store
because he know I have an addiction and there is no help for me except to buy more stuff! :rolleyes1

I should start a group...

Not doing much this weekend. I am having my car detailed this weekend. I will let them make it look pretty! Tomorrow my cabinets come so Danny is going to be busy. My son went down to his apartment at school for the weekend. Milwaukee, WI has something they call summer fest. They have bands and food. He is gone for the weekend. It will be quiet around here. I am hoping that my rims for my car come in tomorrow so I could go have them put on my car. Other then that I have nothing planed.
Hope everyone has a good weekend. Just think then next Wednesday is the 4th of July. I hope time keeps flying the way it is so that the Cruise is closer and closer.
