I am sooooo wanting to do this race. A night time race with a T of T theme, my fav ride in all of the world of theme/amusement parks! But a quick trip to WDW would turn into a longer trip and then DW would say, lets go during Marathon Weekend instead, and I would say okay (like I'm gonna say no to a trip to WDW)....so alas, I must pass. SIGH....another reason to move closer to the World!

Terri, Susie - I feel a bit nuts, but if my mom is in for the ToT race I'm going to try and swing both. San Francisco on the weekend of the 20th, come home on Monday. Fly to Orlando on Tuesday for MNSSHP and ToT, then come home Sunday. Figured I would take the week in between as vacation since it seemed silly to bookend the two trips, therefore more time at WDW. Must start saving up for all these trips.....

Well to start with we are doing the 13K and not the 6.5K right? We need to register for the proper race.

Yes we love the Big river, beer is one of life's great pleasures. We especially like sitting out on the patio on a nice evening.

We are open for any suggestions, we are relative new Disney Junkies so we bow to the masters. So much we don't know, heck I didn't even know about the annual pass.

We will be staying from the 24th till the 30th. Pointing the new mustang conv south, it knows the way. So we will have a car to fairy people home if we party after the buses stop running.

Erica and I are not doing this race for time at all so a group brisk walk would be awesome also.

You signed up for the 13K right?

We will probably stay at the Swan or Dolphin this time since we will have the annual pass for park entries and Erica is a nurse so we can get a rate of $169 per night there, that beats $315 and up for the other Epcot resorts. We will stay there so we can walk home also. A cooler of good beer will be available for a night cap after the MGM throws us out if anyone is interested. We are driving down so we can do that to.

I'll pm you Erica's cell number since she always has hers with her.

Yes, the rate with the nurses or teachers discount is $169 a night at the Swan. The Westin heavenly beds are the most comfortable beds around, and the location is walkable to the start and from the finish. At that price is is an outstanding deal.

Martha and I have booked Thursday through Sunday at the Swan, so perhaps we'll see you and Erica there.

Group meets before and after the race? Count us in! We're still not sure where we're staying--toying around with either the Swan/Dolphin or possibly Wilderness Lodge. But either way, we're up for hanging out before and after. It may be a late night Saturday. Glad we can sleep all day Sunday if needed. :)

We were just talking about the possibility of running with a bunch of you guys. Neither Krista or I are running it for time, just to have fun, so it would be great to go as a group. Maybe we can have two or three groups for approximate paces. Dunno, just a thought.

The good news is DH is almost always up for a DW, maybe I can convince him to run it with me... he said he would start running if I found the "Perfect Race" this would certainly qualify as the perfect race for him

I used the military since I'm retired military but it's the same as the nurse/teacher ect. It was a total of 1500 after taxes for staying 6 nights. It was 169 for week day and 279 for weekend nights. Just hit the info link on top of the wish site and go top resorts then hit the link for swan/dolphin and it will figure it for you.

It was cheaper than the Boardwalk by far which starts at 315 per night.

We are buying annual passes also so we can use them then and January.

I just called member services and put us on the waitlist for Oct 21st - 27th (checking out on the 28th) for either BCV or BWV. I need to be back to work before the November ratings book starts. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Otherwise, I think we will stay offsite in a timeshare unit - my in-laws can get fairly cheap deals through the timeshare they own. If we can't be on the Boardwalk area, it doesn't matter to me. We always drive from our resorts to the parks anyway. Staying just outside takes about the same amount of time to drive to where we want to be in WDW.

We decided to do our week at WDW in October around this race, rather than our usual January week long trip. Our APs will expire before this year's January race, so it makes more sense to do the parks in October instead. We will come down for a long weekend in January for the race. If we are lucky, it will be a kid-free trip too! ;)

This is the first year this race is taking place. 11 is the minimum age that Disney allows for this race. I don't have kids but would think if she trains, 8 miles is doable. Remember there is a 6.5K option also.

OK, here's the deal. Just had a family conversation at supper and we (actually DW, DD and DS did) decided the marathon is out and the ToT 13K/8K is in. I brought this topic up because I thought there was much more for the whole family – not that there isn’t a lot at other times at Disney – to enjoy with the race, MNSSHP, and the food and wine fest going on right around this time. Unfortunately for me it was unanimous and we will start planning for the 13K – this is 3 weeks after my next marathon so I will definitely be ready for it. DW, DD and DS want to do the 8K. Is there an age minimum on the 8K?

I will have tons of fun with this but will miss doing the marathon and getting that coveted 15-year medal. I was also planning on really training and shooting for my Boston Qualifying time of 3:30. Guess I will just have to shoot for that in October instead.

Just got off the phone with a gentleman named Steve, and he said they hoped to open the event for registration within the next couple of weeks, so we may not see it open today, *if* that info is accurate. :)

Wonder if Steve is his real name? I think he's trying to throw us off the trail.

His name is Steve Lapierre and he is the Registration Manager for EMMI. He is very responsive but can be evasive on giving details on upcoming events.

I too expect an email regarding the race but still will continue to watch throughout today and then relax into checking like 5 times a day tomorrow until it opens LOL I checked at EST midnight, and 5 am EST. I was awake at 2:50 and turned off my alarm figuring I would just lay there for 10 minutes HA! Slept thru Midnight PST. Tell you how sad I am I put a chair next to the bed and put the laptop there for overnight checks :lmao:

Here is another new event going on the weekend of ToT. Some of you might find this interesting.

ABA Announces Multi-Year Agreement With Disney’s Wide World of Sports ®

The ABA and Disney’s Wide World of Sports to Hold BMX Nationals and Cup Races

Gilbert, Arizona —April 5, 2007 — The American Bicycle Association (ABA) has signed a multi-year agreement with Disney Sports Attractions to host National bicycle motocross (BMX) race events. The events will be held at Disney’s Wide World of Sports® complex in Lake Buena Vista , Florida . The first event, the Fall Nationals will be held October 25-28, 2007 and is just the first of several events planned for the Disney Sports complex.

The ABA has structured the Disney events as family adventures, allowing BMX racers and their families to enjoy the Walt Disney World® Resort and race an ABA National event. Disney’s Wide World of Sports® complex will provide an unique location that has never before been experienced in the sport of BMX. The 220-acre sports complex host over 180 professional and amateur sporting events each year. The variety of events include major league baseball, tennis, marathons, soccer and even paintball. The sport of BMX is one of the very first “Action Sports” to host a national level event at this site.

“The ABA is excited to partner with Disney’s Wide World of Sports® Complex. BMX has continued to grow and offering events that are destination driven are a natural progression. Our members will see the ABA continue to work with Disney over the coming years to provide magical races in Florida !”, said Clayton John, President of the ABA .

The Walt Disney World® Resort will offer special travel packages for the racers and their families during the week of the Disney Wide World of Sports ABA Fall Nationals. In addition to racing, the ABA will offer special Pro Clinics and other special events that will make this a must attend Disney vacation. Specially priced travel packages are being offered and you can read more information at www.ababmx.com .

"BMX racing is one of the hottest emerging sports in America , making this ABA event a perfect fit among the growing list of nationally-recognized sports events taking place at Disney`s Wide World of Sports Complex. Bringing this action sports event to our complex represents another step in our commitment to broaden the variety of prestigious sports events we`re able to offer athletes and guests.”, stated Kellen Winslow, Director of New Business for Disney’s Wide World of Sports®.

If you read the description below it won't get near AK. If you look at the marathon map, the mile 20 to 24 is about MGM. Add a litttle of WWS and there is no way to go beyond WWS or it would be way too long. Remember it is an out and back.

"The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ 13K is an 8.1 mile night-time road race that will begin and end in the shadows of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction at the Disney-MGM Studios. The course will also feature Disney's Wide World of Sports® Complex, before returning to Disney-MGM Studios where the course will feature the Lights, Motors, Action™ Extreme Stunt Show and then down New York Street, past the Sorcerer's Hat, to an unforgettable finish at The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™. The 6.5K only scares you half way and back."

From my map, it looks like you *could*, go out towards victory way, down to WWoS and over to Mile 19 from the marathon and back. That leaves about the first and last miles in the park and out 3. I'm hoping they'll loop through WWoS and that will take up the extra slack. I know the description implies it, but the marathon route technically "includes" WWoS too and you really don't even see it. (At least I don't by then. ;) )

Robert after a few of my stories you might be looking for something to hit me over the head with.

Like the time when I was married to a farmers daughter, and had gone to the farm to hunt ground hogs and fell out of the tree and broke my gun. Then was attacked by the bull on the way back. Talk about making a good impression on the new inlaws.

Mel that is an excellent idea! All team members are required to present themselves at MGM on 10-27 ::yes::

Tammy I didn't know we had a :snail: !!!! I love the snail! You see when Susan and first saw a Donald medal in 2004 we thought they gave some people SNAIL medals LOL

Dave what a hoot! I can see Susan being in your group of walkers which would be a good thing for her pace ;) She gets going on our any of our walks and I am in trouble laughing so hard. :)

We've been discussing the medal too. Will they be the same? I agree they should make them different otherwise might as well do the shorter distance except i'm looking forward to the 13K distance in prepping for Jan. But it will be the same finish line and the fast 13Kers will be finishing with and ahead of the 6.5K people so if we get different medals then we'll have different bibs... sweet!

Dave regarding Disney showing us a map then changing it up on us due to the theme :rotfl2: Too funny!

Hey! What about them having someone impersonating Rod Sterling? Oh I just can't wait to see what they have planned for us!!!!!!!

Carrie??? You know we are enablers if you need us to draw up a course then when the map is finally posted we'll fall back on Dave's idea of them having changed it due to the theme. We're there for you! :artist: Course Scott might know something is up when he sees the course drawn in crayola LOL

I'm working on it, but I will feel guilty if I push too hard. Even worse, our fellow bike path sharere 2006 goofy-er told us that Detroit would be cool this year, as this is its 30th anniv. Still workign on leavign from Detriot. It's that week's vacation that could be tough, though.

My daughter and I just signed up for the 13K--our very first race. I'm a total newbie at running, but I plan to really train hard between now and then. :)) Does anyone know if there is a pace or time requirement? I can walk for hours at a good clip without wearing down too much, but running takes it out of me a bit quicker. :) :snail: :snail: :snail: We're so excited to be a part of this!

I am sure there will be a time limit. Disney usually does 15 min/miles for races shorter than the 1/2 marathon. The 1/2 & full have 16 min/miles. I am hoping for the 16 min/miles so we can relax and enjoy:banana:

I'm hoping for 16mpm pace too. Actually with the problems Disney is having getting filling the Minnie, perhaps they should increase the pacing requirements to appeal to people who have never done a race and might be leery of such a "fast" pace, but would love to try. Since the Minnie and ToT are short (who would have ever thought that I would say 8 or 9 miles is short??) an extra minute or two per mile doesn't significantly increase the amount of time the course would have to be open. Of course this suggestion comes from a true penguin!!

How fast do these things usually fill up? DH *might* be deploying in mid-October, and, well, there's MNSSHP which I've never done...and then Dan Zanes will be performing at MGM and my son LOVES him...and, oh, there's a nice race! ;) But the deployment won't be firm until August and I'd hate to ditch him if he's leaving in the beginning of November instead. I too am wondering on the pace requirements. If you look under eligibility there isn't anything listed like a pace requirement or time limit to finish like there is listed under the marathons.

I am skeptical if there is a requirement since both races start at 9pm and the 6.5K is open to all ages + the 13K age limit is 3 years younger than the marathon.

I would like to know. I am seriously considering it, I mean really seriously since we will be getting off the member cruise the Thursday prior. We are already down there . . .

DS, who will be 11 at the beg of October really wants to do one. I want to do the 13K and if there wasn't a requirement he could do it with me but if not then have him do the 6.5K, but I don't want to be seperated from him obviously.

Is there any other info that what is posted?

They will almost for sure put something together. They don't want people wandering around at midnight(3 hrs or more) doing the race. If they don't put a pace requirement Disney couldn't do anything about them! I mentioned the most probables earlier in a post(Disney Standard Paces)

I think that will be too difficult for my 11 year old. I obviously can't sign him up for the 6.5K since no one will be able to be with him so he will be kind of upset since he won't be able to do this.

Don't mean to butt in on the sweeper talk but I am too excited to wait: I just completed registration for me (13K), DW (8K), DD (8K) and DS (8K). The only one I am worried about would be DD who is kind of a putter at track practice but DS (will be 8-years-old at race time) will not have a problem as he does 2 to 4 miles at around a 10 minute pace 3 times a week now. Jeanne-- Since there now seems to be a 16 minute mile pace, I guess I will sign Norm up for the 6.5K as he won't be able to keep that pace. I still plan to do the 13K. If everyone starts together which someone said they thought they might, maybe John can just follow the 6.5K route if that is allowed.

Since this is a night race and the party goes till 1am, am I correct in assuming all the buses to the resorts will run that late. We are extending our vacation to do this race as we were orginally leaving on Friday so need to find a hotel to stay at. We are DVC members but don't want to spend the extra points to stay another weekend.

I wouldn't assume that as other races at Disney(RFTT & Minnie) doesn't offer transportation to the start of the race so I wouldn't expect it at the finish of ToT. I would check with them first. Running busses until 1:00 for a small group might not happen.

Kristi1357

Nancy - I would just take a cab, if the buses aren't running. It usually isn't that expensive. We've been known to do that on occassion when the bus lines are crazy-long. Well worth the $10 (or whatever it is - ask first though)! Also, there is going to be a ton of WISHers there - some with cars. Maybe some kind WISHer will drive you back to your resort.

I will ask Chad about LTT on Friday night. Sounds good to me, but don't want to say yes without checking in with the hubby first. I hope you guys don't mind a 4 year old! pirate:

When they have the after marathon party at pleasure island there are busses running to take people back to their resorts, we partied in 2005 till 3 am walked out (staggered out, hobbled what ever our method of motion could be called) and a buss was there waiting, we got right home to the Boardwalk.

I think they pretty much have to have busses running or they would have a few thousand people wandering around the park trying to get back. Then that thing that comes out of the swamp would get several of them.

That would be a mess. I mean think about it would you want all those wish warriors wandering around without adult supervision?

Well, in grand Disney style I have conflicting reports. My email said a 16 min per mile pace. I called the phone number listed to confirm and was told a 15 min per mile pace for the 13K.

Also for the 6.5K he said that there is also at 15 minute per mile pace BUT they are giving them a little extra time since it will go along the same route and starts at the same time. The 6.5K participants have until the 13K people finish to complete the race.

They also will have check points to maintain. I forgot to ask how they would know if you are a 13K or 6.5K when coming to the checkpoints?

I called 407-938-3398 if anyone is interested.

So there you have it, looks like it is a 15 min per mile pace for both races.

Nancy: If the pace requirements are as some people are stating, I will try to get John switched to the 6.5K. I wish they had posted this info when they began accepting registrations.
As for the busses, I am certain Disney will provide transportation back to all the Disney resorts. It is afterall, a Disney sponsored event and there will be thousands of people there (participants and guests). they can't just leave people stranded. We are staying at BWV using points on Friday and Saturday and are waitlisted for Thursday night. If that doesn't come through we'll probably just stay at the Swan/Dolphin. Where are you staying and will you be on the meal plan? Boys with you? We could probably get OKW for that one evening, but it would be a hassle with the luggage. If we stay at S/D we can just walk it over.

Speaking of Swan/Dolphin, is one preferrable to the other?

padisneyfan
04-20-2007, 10:35 AM
I have no idea where I am staying yet. I wouldn't mind the Dolphin/Swan as I can get a nurse discount but they don't have Magical Express. Erik and GF are with us 10/21-10/26, they fly back on Friday. I only have a 1BR at OKW as I would offer a room to you for Thursday. Are you getting the meal plan? I figure after already being there for over a week, I will be full and the meal plan might be a waste. So many decisions. I wrote a long reply to you on the other board but I guess it is down. Will send you either an email or pm later.

Since everyone is starting at the same time and getting the same medal, I hope that you can switch John over. Otherwise, does anyone know if it is ok to just complete the 6.5K course even though you registered for the 13K and still get a medal.

I would imagine that it would be ok to "drop down" to the 6.5K from the 13K. If you get the same medal, they start and finish in the same place, they aren't going to care. If it is an out and back, what's to stop someone from just turning around anywhere on the course. I say someone do that at the marathon on the out and back section on the way to WWS:eek:

I can attest from being an RD, the cost of 2 different medals with unknown quantities can really add up. Much easier to design and produce 1 medal.

I didn't know they were doing a 6.5K too! This llooks very possible for us! I'm really excited because I am a night person and there aren't all that many night races - especially at WDW!!

Now for the drawback. My knees have been absolutely awful lately. That's why I haven't been around much. Simply walking across the room has been painful, never mind walking any distance. I have been back to my ortho and he wanted to try another round of the Hylagan injections that I did last year and got some pretty good relief. I had my second of 3 rounds of injections today. My first round of Hylagan lasted about a year, so hopefully October will be great timing for me to do another race. I will be doing the 6.5K, but I want to wait to sign up at least until I finish the last round of injections and see how well they work this time. Hopefully this is going to work! I was told on the phone today that they will give the 6.5K participants more time because of the same start time and being open to all ages. What I was told - in person on the phone - is that the 6.5K participants will have until the 13K people are done.

So if anyone wants to confirm this, being that Disney is so accurate with their information dispensing at times :rolleyes1

But at least now we have 2 reports of it being a 15 minute mile.

I think I have decided to do the 6.5K so my oldest can join me, which is what he really wants to do. That way neither of us are running alone and such. Besides for my first race . . . well 4 miles might be enough ;)

Robert,
Any word yet from EMMI on the DVC discount for the ToT run? I keep checking the website, but nothing out yet.
Thanks

I emailed Disney again about when the DVC app will be available but did not get a response back yet. They are probably just dragging their feet as usual. Will let you know as soon as I get it. Disney's site still has only the online option(no paper).

FYI, everyone: The T of T website now has the pacing requirements posted. I just spoke to someone at Active.com because I really don't think my husband can do a 15-minute mile for 8.1 miles. (MAYBE he can, but it gives him absolutely no cushion). Anyway, the guy encouraged me to sit tight......according to him, Disney is considering changing the pace requirements......maybe to as much as a 20 minute mile. I thought that was very interesting. I guess the more people they can get to sign up, the more revenue they make. he said to give it a few weeks....things are still being finalized.

Also, The website now shows there will be a Sat packet pickup as well as Fri. Before it was Fri only.

I sent out the email about the pacing requirements, well it must be sent out to a bunch of people.

I have received a third email (from only one original being sent) about the pacing requirements and was told that it would be put on the website and they weren't sure why it wasn't listed on there originally.

Good to know it is on there now. I want to register but kind of waiting for the DVC application. Hope it won't "fill up" before they get that out.

I still think I am going to go with the 6.5k, more for the sake of my oldest son than anything. I have been working on the treadmill while our weather here has been cold and rainy. I have worked my way up to 1.8 miles at a 12 minute mile pace :)

Here is an interesting reply from EMMI today regarding pace requirements for the race:

"If they can hold off for a couple of weeks, the pace requirement may change. They put their standard 15 minute pace up on the site, but we are working on getting it extended. It may only get extended to 16 minutes per mile, but there is a chance that it could go as high as 20 minutes per mile. I just talked to the Event Manager and he thought a decision would be made next week."

It would be great if they change it :yay:

Are we thinking that our WISH meet will be at MNSSHP? Or should I say "a" WISH meet, not THE WISH meet? Mel? :confused3 Charlie and I are hoping to snag tickets for that night.

Ok, don't let this get around, but he wants to DRIVE to Florida. :faint: He's never done it, so to him it sounds like fun. I've done it more times than I want to remember. (I had a really cheap ex DH :rolleyes2) The novelty wears off after the 25th trip. Anyway, we are planning on arriving at WDW very early Friday morning.

So if I can't talk DH into this trip, will you pick me up on the way through NC?

Although it's looking positive... I keep mentioning adding an October trip, tonight I threw in MNSSHP, and he hasn't once told me I'm crazy! Now I just have to convince DD's teachers that she can miss school on Friday so we can leave in time to be at WDW for the Friday MNSSHP... taking them out of high school is just not as easy as it was in elementary school!

Robert I think Vic has made reservations for us at the Liberty Tree, and is planning to do the MNSSHP that day also. What ever time he was planning is fine with us. Just let me know what he tells you and I'll do the same if I hear first.

BIG VIC are you there??? Anyone else want to do this with us missfits?

Gosh, you guys! I am still torn about when to go to MNSSHP!
I want to go Friday since alot of WISHers will be there.
But the weekend MNSSHPs are more crowded.
And we will be there the whole week prior to the ToT 13k.

Maybe we will go twice! :thumbsup2
In any case, we will skip LTT to save a few $$$.

Here's some pics from 2005 to get you guys even more excited about MNSSHP & LTT:

Currently we have a reservation for 12 at 4 PM. 8 seats have been accounted for. If more want to participate I can call and talk with the group sales folks and increase the number. I say more the merrier. Just let me know if you want to join us and I'll try my best to make it happen.

Does anyone have a problem with eating earlier than 4 PM? There was nothing available after 5, so as we increase numbers, we may have to eat earlier.

We may want to work on an alternate plan, just in case.

You buy the ticket for the whole night. The night of the 26th starts at 7:00 pm and goes to Midnight. 5 hours to play:banana:

FYI - for anyone who will not have a park ticket for the day they are doing MNSSHP - they usually let you in MK with your MNSSHP ticket from 4pm on.

Thanks Robert that works for me. How about you Vic and any others going with us? The 7:00 ok with y'all?

I'll have Erica get our tickets, she is the family buyer of stuff, I would screw it up.

The 26th (I really did read your PM. :rotfl: ).

Normally, you can get into MK around 1600 with just the MNSSHP ticket, and the party starts at 1900.

That's why I was thinking, if dinner gets moved earlier than 1600, anyone without an AP would have to buy a ticket to get into MK, plus an MNSSHP ticket. So, an alternate location may be in order, just in case.

We'll see how many want to participate and what we can do with the ADRs.

We don't want to make this operation FUBAR. ;) :rotfl:

Exactly why I'm following instead of trying to arrange, we would be so confused we would never get together. A man needs to know his limitations.:hippie:

Vic,
Could you please include DW and me for the LTT reservations. I don't think we're going to do MNSSHP that night as we will have done it a couple weeks earlier with our son, but having dinner with the group at LTT sounds great. (I also have a DDE card which can help cut expenses for up to 10.)
As for dinner time, any time is fine with us. Thanks for organizing this.

If this gets move to an alternative location, DS and I may join. We are in Orlando for dinner Friday night, but not staying in town. Have to head home Friday night and then coming back on Saturday afternoon.

It's a confusing schedule because of DD gymnastics.

We will watch for updates.

Here is great new news from Disney's site:

PACING REQUIREMENTS
All participants for the 13K and the 6.5K must be able to finish the race within two and a half hours.

I guess I'll do the 13K for sure now :)

I will be driving through snow to get to Reno tomorrow. It is supposed to snow in Reno Thurs morning when we leave. We get rid of 3 days of snow for sun!
