In a previous thread it was stated that you can upgrade your 1D/1P ticket to a 1D/2P ticket at guest services for aprox $10 plus tax. Our daughter is at the park as part of a high school tour group and went to upgrade her 1D/1P ticket and was told the cost was $36! :confused3 Was told that since her ticket was a discounted tour group ticket the upgrade price was more. Does anyone have any insight into this? Thanks!

if she had a discounted ticket to begin with, the upgrade is definitely more than $10.
knowing that, it sounds close to the normal upgrade price is.
the upgrade is based from on regular ticket price, not discounted price

As I understand it whats going on is more of a return and repurchase of the ticket. You return the original ticket and are given full purchase price and that is put towards the purchase of a new ticket. I suspect the problem is that guest services cannot sell a single tour group 2 park discounted ticket and had to upgrade her to a full price two park ticket.
The same is true of Disney as well you are not paying a set amount for any ticket upgrades your paying the difference between what was paid for the original ticket and the current price of what you want.
I am positive phamton can drop by later and give you the actual reason but I figured I would at least try to guess.

The tickets sold to high school groups is a "youth ticket" and is significantly discounted as a group sales. The ticket is worth only about $30-40 so the upgrade to a 2 park is more.
I would suggest that next year, the two park tickets are purchased instead of one park by the group. It would still be cheaper than a regular two park ticket since it would be a youth/group sales.
