I recently sailed on the Magic ( 3/17 Eastern). I noticed that on 3 nights there were Flambe Desserts on the Menu. Banana's Foster, Cherries Jubilee & Baked Alaska.

Each description read that your head server would come to your table & flambe the desseet tableside.

I ordered the Banana's Foster & the cherries Jubilee. Both times I was told that the could not do the flambe & the dessert was served minus that aspect. The fire is not only for show, it changes the taste of the dessert as well. So instead of cheries jubilee I had vanilla ice cream with some cherries on top (good yes, but not what I ordered).

The last night all the head servers paraded out with flaming baked Alaska. But I thing it was just for show as I did not see anyone being served any & this was after the dining was complete & the wait staff praded thru the dining room.

I could understand totally that they do not want to have the fire aspect in the dining room & I have no problem with that. What I do not understand is why they have the flambe dishes on the menu multiple times with the specific description that it will be done at tableside.

Does anyone know what the deal is? Or as my sister keeps telling me was it just me...No Fire for You......Just curious if anyone can shed some light on this for me.

Thanks in advance.

We asked about that and our server told us it was because of the fire safety issue.

Well then, if they can't do a flambe, why put it on the menu? :confused3

I actually had the cherries jubilee last january, and it was flambeed. but not at the table, the head server did it in the corner of Triton's, and actually invited me up to watch after I made a comment. I was disappointed they didn't do it at the table, heck that was the only reason I ordered it! so Christian invited me up to watch....didn't know they'd stopped doing it all together now...

I had the bananas Foster--same situation. The head server did the flambe in the middle of the dining room and it was served from there. We could see that they had done the fire bit--it just wasn't done at the table. Maybe I'm just not particular enough, but I couldn't tell a difference between one flamed 50 feet away and one flamed at the table.
