I'm not too good at these trip reports, but I'm going to give it a try. There were several of us disers on this cruise, and I keep checking every day to see if one of them will post their report so I can just chime in on their thread;) , but so far I haven't had any luck. I sortof thought I'd let someone else do the majority of the work because, you see, I am still in vacation mode, but I guess I'm just going to have to break down and start writing.:)
The cast:
Me (Susan), DH (Brian), DD (Brianna 11), and DS (Brandon 8)
This trip really started out as a 4 night cruise on May 27th of this year. We had cruised for the first time last June on the Wonder for the 3 night and fell in love with cruising. We rebooked onboard and were all set for a four night. Well, to make a long story short, I stumbled upon a great price on Expedia's website for a 7 night eastern cruise over spring break. You might be asking how one just stumbles upon something like that. Well, it's because I have vacation planning issues.:rotfl: I do! I really do! I can tell you where we're going for the next couple of years, and they are all booked trips. I need to attend counseling for this, but I've not yet found someone locally who treats my sort of problem.:confused3 Anyway, Expedia's "deal" was really not a deal at all. It was a glitch in their system, but thanks to my persistence, we got it booked, and Expedia paid for $2000 of our trip.
So, I switched my planning mode from May to March and started reading everything I could about 7 night cruises. Awww! 7 night cruises! I just loved the sound of that.:cloud9:
We flew out of Kansas City on Friday, March 16th. I guess I should tell you that although we got one heck of a deal on the cruise, we got bent over on the airfare if you know what I mean.:lmao: We had already booked flights on Midwest for the May cruise almost a year in advance. Well, Midwest isn't so nice to you if you decide to change your flights. I convinced DH that we were still saving lots and lots of money though. I think he actually believed me.:rolleyes1
We got into Orlando around 10:00 p.m. on Friday and rented a car from Budget and headed to Radisson at the port. Everything went smoothly, and we even found a Wal-Mart to stop in and buy water and beer before the cruise (a tip I got from the DIS:) ). This saved us a lot of money. A case of water was $35 on the ship. We bought a rolling cooler, a case of water, and some beer for about $50.:thumbsup2
We ended up getting to the Radisson pretty late and decided to call it a night. I've read a lot of complaints about the Radisson, but we've stayed there twice now and have enjoyed it both times. This time we got the AAA rate and ended up getting upgraded somehow.:confused3 We hit the hay and woke up early Saturday morning ready to go see the "Magic" for the first time!:cheer2:
Next installment: Can someone tell me why in the world we brought 9 suitcases/bags?:sad2:

Did you just wheel the soft cooler on as a carry on? Obviously there were no problems. We just need a few sodas for in the room.

You beat me to it! I was on your cruise, and I even have reason to believe that we may have been on an excursion together. Did you do the St. John Trunk Bay Beach and Snorkle excursion on St. Thomas day?
Great start to your report... I'll be starting mine shortly (hopefully!) and you can chime in all you want! :thumbsup2

Yes, we did do the St. John Trunk Bay Beach and Snorkel tour, so I'm sure we saw each other! Okay, you have me worried! I forgot you were on our cruise, and I am pretty sure I've read a great TR by you before. Maybe I should just stop now while I'm ahead and let you do your thing! Please feel free to chime in on mine at any time!:)

We wheeled the cooler right onto the ship. They didn't even ask to look inside. We had put bottled water and some beer in it for DH. We drank all of the water but ended up throwing out most of the beer.:confused3 DH didn't think it tasted as good as the tap stuff onboard.;)

First of all, in reading the beginning of my TR over again, I can't believe that I said we got bent over on airfare! Who says that sort of thing? I'll tell you who--my DH! Sometimes things go from my brain to the keyboard and I don't have any control over it!:rotfl2:
Saturday, March 17th: We see the Magic!
This was the day I had been waiting for! We had seen the Wonder and couldn't wait to see the Magic!:cool1: We woke up pretty early, got ready, headed for the rental car and realized that we needed to put the DCL luggage tags on our luggage. I forgot to mention that we almost had to get rid of a kid in order to fit our luggage in our midsize car from Budget, so putting the luggage tags on was quite a chore! Plus, we also had a cooler, a case of water, and a case of beer to deal with! You could barely see the children in the back seat of the car. We got the luggage tags on and loaded up. Afterall, I just HAD to be the first one at the port because I knew I was going to buy an upgrade.
My DH and DS wanted to grab something to eat at McDonald's. They ran in to get something while DD and myself waited in the car. We were too excited to eat. When DH and DS came out, DS opened someone else's car door and started to get in. If you could have seen the look on this guy's face--priceless!:lmao: Of course, DS was totally embarassed while the rest of us were about to wet our pants. I know--we're sick people but we found that to be quite hilarious. And, before I get flamed, we would have gone after the car IF it had taken off with DS!;)
So, after our stop at Mickey D's, we went to check out Ron Jon Surf Shop. I knew better than to go there. We did it last year and it only ended up costing us money. Well, we gave in again this year. Yes, it did end up costing us again. DD and DS beg and we finally cave! We are slow learners.:rolleyes1 After paying for our loot, we decide to drive by the port (because it's like 9:00 in the morning and maybe they'll open early today) just to get some pictures. Remember--I WILL be the first one at the port!
We get some GREAT pictures of the Magic and our excitement starts to really show! We definitely had to look like total tourists! There were people leaving the ship and we were stopped blocking traffic so we could take pictures. DH was getting impatient with me because he was getting looks and probably hand gestures from other adults. I didn't care because I had to have these pictures for my scrapbook that I would probably never end up doing.
We drive around a little more and I decide it is time to get to the port. DH was going to drop DD and me off with the luggage:scared1: , and he was going to take DS and return the car to Budget. Everything was looking good! There was another family arriving at about the same time we were. Oh, no you don't! I'm going to fight for that upgrade, so watch out!pirate:
DD and I get all nine bags along with the filled cooler out and somehow manage to get them up on the sidewalk. I'm confident that I will be sipping a drink on a verandah tonight. Afterall, I am the first one here!:cheer2:
A man finally comes out and takes our luggage. I'm wondering what he is thinking about the number of bags we have. I tip him and move on. I practically make DD run with me to the doors of the port. We go through security, get on the escalator, and ride to the top. Oh, yes! How much is it going to cost me? I'm sleeping on the verandah tonight! I get a #2 boarding card and feel real good! But, wait! What's that? What do you mean there are no upgrades available? You do know that I'm the first one in the port, right?:confused3 Well, I get put on a wait list and will get called if something becomes available.
DH and DS arrive, and we're all checked in and ready to wait. I get the kids signed in to the kid's clubs and all is well. We ended up meeting some other DISers at the port. Hi, everyone! It sortof stinks to be back in reality, huh? DD had made two great friends via email before the cruise. They meet and end up spending a lot of time together on the cruise. This was wonderful for DD.
We are travelling with another family from our hometown, and they arrive as well. They finally started calling passengers with boarding card #2, and we head to the Mickey Ears!:cool1: We stop for a picture with our best St. Patrick's gear on and head for the atrium. I don't know what it is--but I just love having our name announced on the ship! It just makes you feel so important!
We headed to Parrot Cay for lunch and then to the pools. My kids already had their suits on, but I have to say, it was quite cold! It didn't stop the kids from getting in the pools though. They went back and forth from the pool to the hot tub, to the basketball court, to the ice-cream stand, and then started the rotation all over again. DH and I just sort of hung out and people watched until our room was ready.
We had a cat. 9, room 2026. It was wonderful! I was afraid we'd be disappointed because we had sailed with a cat. 6 last time, but we have decided that we think we like the 9 better.:confused3 We headed for the lifeboat drill at 4:00. We were stationed in the Walt Disney Theater, and we were quite happy about this. It was downright cold, even for us Kansans!
After the drill, we headed back up to get ready for the sail away party. We went up on deck 10 to watch for dolphins. We didn't spot any this time, but it wasn't for lack of trying. We stood there and stood there and stood there some more. For some reason, none of the ships were taking off. We ended up leaving late, and I never questioned it. However, when we got back home, I found out that because of the east coast weather, there were a lot of people that were late to the ship and some that didn't even make it.:sad2:
We barely had time to get cleaned up and ready for the show. We had 8:15 dining and our rotation was PLAPLAP. Tonight's show was at 6:15 and was the Welcome Aboard show. We really enjoyed it! Afterwards, our ton of luggage started arriving and I started unpacking before dinner. I cannot believe how much stuff you can cram in those staterooms! Every single piece of clothing and all 200 pairs of shoes fit!
We head to dinner at Parrot Cay and meet our servers. Our head server was Gabor from Hungary, and our assistant was Evan "Rambo" from Brazil. Let me tell you--these two are WONDERFUL! It was such a welcome change from our first cruise! The thing we were most disappointed in the first time around was the service. Well, this time it was over the top!:thumbsup2 Gabor and Evan really worked hard to get to know us and were wonderful with the kids! We dined with another DIS family and got to know them throughout the cruise as well. Hi, Stacie!:grouphug:
After dinner, we went to Shutter's so I could buy a picture package. I hadn't done this on our first cruise, and I really wanted to try to get some good pictures this time. Today was St. Patrick's Day, and I had planned out exactly what we were wearing so that we'd match. We did the lifestyle portraits and got the best family picture we've ever taken! Just so you know, I started with the 5 8X10's package for $84.95 but soon upgraded.:rolleyes1
We headed back to the room to find a towel animal, but I can't remember which one we had on this night for some reason. Our stateroom host was Jonathan from the Phillipines. He was also wonderful! He kept our cooler stocked with ice every single day, and he talked to the kids quite a bit. We ended up going to bed around 10:00. The seas were pretty rough, but I got rocked to sleep like a baby!:cloud9:

Sorry that you didn't get the verandah that you were hoping for, but at least it sounds like you were really happy with your room.
We had 8:15 dining and our rotation was PLAPLAP.
Wow. Exact same dining rotation and exact same St. Thomas excursion. :scratchin I wonder how many times we ran into each other and didn't even know it!
Here... I figured out how to tell exactly how close we were on the St. Thomas excursion. After you arrived at St. John and boarded the open air bus, on the way to Trunk Bay did you have to back up to look for someones liscense that had flown out?

No, no one's license flew out from our bus. I will tell you though, that I met a Lees Summit family that are also DISer's (Hi!) on the bus on the way there and we got to talking. Well, someone behind me shhhhshd (?) me so they could hear the driver. Oops!:rolleyes1 Were you on that bus? We were in the next to the last seat at the back.

Disneypoor - I'm enjoying your report. Much better than anything I could write! :thumbsup2
I hear you on the luggage thing! There were 6x of us (+7x large bags) in a mini-van, plus a carry on each! I don't know how I managed to get it all in. :rotfl2:
Awesome trip report so far! Can't wait to finish it.
I was also on the 3/17 Eastern. We were waiting in the parking lot at 8:30 am & got teased by security for arriving so early.
I was on the taxi that backed up to look for a DL. My daughter & I were seated right behind the man who lost it. I made sure to keep my KTTW in my hand for the rest of the ride.
Hopefully on my next cruise I'll get to meet some dis folks.
Sounds like you had an incredible cruise also.

No, I wan't on that bus. But anyhow we had to have been at the Trunk Bay beach together. Wasn't that the most glorious day at a glorious place? I can't wait to read your take on it!

Hello Allison! Greetings to a fellow 3/17 cruiser! So you were on the open air bus going to Trunk Bay where the guy's license flew out? If you were seating right behind the guy, then I think I was probably seated behind and to the left of you! It was me, my daughter, wife, and MIL. My wife was the one that saw it and found it on the side of the road. Small world... :)

Sunday, March 18th--Day at Sea:cloud9:
We all got to sleep in today, and it was wonderful! No one even moved until after 8:00! We were all so tired from travelling and decided that we rather liked sea days.;)
I had started exercising about 3 months prior to our cruise, and I decided that I was going to try to keep up with it on this trip. I went up to deck 4 to get in my 3 1/2 miles. I have to admit, walking on the ship was much more fun than walking at home! When I returned to our stateroom, I found it empty. Apparently DH and kids decided to go check out everything, which was fine by me.
I showered and then, you'll never believe what I decided to do. Yep, laundry! I'm very anal about cleanliness and the dirty clothes were just driving me nuts.:confused3 This became a usual occurence throughout the trip, and even Jonathan, our stateroom host, would eventually make fun of me. See, I have more issues than just planning vacations. Again, I can't seem to find anyone locally who can treat ALL of my problems all at once.:rotfl:
I then headed up to Shutter's to see how our boarding picture and lifestyle portrait turned out. Remember I told you that I bought the 5 8X10 package for $84.95? Well, we hadn't even been on the ship for a full day yet, and guess what? I had already taken 4 of the 5 8X10's.:rolleyes1 I upgraded to the next step in the packages, and just so you know, this wouldn't be the last time I had to upgrade. I found Shutter's to be an addiction as well. I figured out early on that the money that I had planned to spend on "fru-fru" drinks was going to have to give way to pictures.:goodvibes
I also went to Guest Services to get DH and I tickets for Margarita Tasting and to change our Palo brunch reservations. We had scheduled brunch for Thursday morning but found out that our Character Breakfast would be that day. Now, I got up in the wee hours of the morning to make all of these Palo reservations, and guess what? I was able to change to what I wanted without any problem.:confused3 Not sure I'll be getting up in the middle of the night next time.
I finally met up with my family again. DH said that the kids found some of their DIS friends and were doing their own thing. Okay, I guess? Looked like dad and mom would be getting ditched this trip. Anyhow, DH and I decided to go to Lumiere's for breakfast. It was okay. Not sure what I think about scrambled eggs on the ship. A little too "watery" for my liking.
DH and I headed up to deck 10 to find lounge chairs and bake in the sun. It was a pretty nice day--a little breezy--but with a lot of sunshine. DH decided to go ahead and buy the refillable beer mug. It cost $12 dollars, but it is a neat souvenir. Well, he had a few beers, and I had a few "fru-fru" drinks and life was good. DD had Tea with Wendy at 4:00, so we had to make sure she was cleaned up and ready before then. We did finally find DD, but we hadn't seen DS in a while. Once we found him, we all headed back to the room to do our favorite thing--ORDER ROOM SERVICE!:cheer2:
Once we were all cleaned up, DD headed off for Tea with Wendy with a friend. DH and I just sortof relaxed and DS headed back to the basketball court--his new home away from home.
Tonight was formal night in Lumiere's, and I wanted to make sure we got our pictures taken.;) After we gathered up the kids, we went ahead and got ready for dinner before we went to the show. I must say, we clean up nice.:) DD and I wore very nice black dresses and DH and DS both wore suits. Although it was a lot to pack, it was sure fun to get dressed up all fancy.
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l213/disneypoor/1000206_031.jpg
This was about the time that I REALLY started feeling the motion of the boat. The swells were anywhere from 8 to 13 feet, and I couldn't even think about it. I just kept trying to talk myself into being okay, but I just wasn't sure if I was going to actually throw up or not.:sad2:
I toughed it out, and we headed to the show. Tonight it was Golden Mickey's. I liked it, but then, I tend to like all of the shows. When we were finished, we headed straight out the door to find a picture line much against my family's will. This would be an everyday thing. Mom drags family to get in line for a picture, and family rolls eyes and gripes all the way.:rotfl: Hey, we do have some GREAT pictures thanks to me being so pushy!
We got our picture taken and then eventually headed to dinner. Evan and Gabor were fabulous tonight! They did magic tricks for the kids and brought out a birthday cake for one of the young girls at our table. Evan was naughty though, which the boys at the table rather liked. He put some of the cake in the girls' face.:scared1: I have some wonderful pictures of that! The boat was really rockin and rollin tonight. I just kept praying I'd be okay.
After dinner, we took the kids and headed out to watch Rich Purpura. He is a comedian/magician, and he was hilarious!:rotfl2: DH and I went to his adults only show later on that night at 10:15. We really liked him! We got back to the room at 11:15 and waited for the kids to get in. We swore we'd never let our kids roam the ship by themselves, but they had quite a few friends onboard, and we decided to let them. They returned shortly after we did, we showed them the swan towel animal that Jonathan had left for us, and we all got ready for bed.
It was at this time that DH realized that in the midst of his beers in his nice refillable mug he must have forgotten to put sunscreen on his chest/stomach. All I can say is ouch! It does make for some rather hilarious pictures though. I wish I was smart enough to know how to post them because I'm quite certain that all of you would get a kick out of them. I still laugh out loud when I look at the pictures. But, don't worry, I laugh "with" DH, not "at" him.:lmao:
Once I went to bed, I started to feel a little bit better. I was hoping the ocean wouldn't be so rough tomorrow though. I had made it through the evening, but I'd soon find that although my seasickness would go away for a while, it would show up again quite often throughout the rest of the trip.:guilty:
Next up: It's all about ME day (and DH too, of course;)) !

Very amusing so far! Somehow I missed about the $12 refillable beer mugs. Please give me the details of that. I am sure my DH, DS and DSIL will like that! Unexpectedly DD is pregnant so she won't be having a beer mug! Poor dear, same thing happened to her the last time we had a family cruise.
I think I am sensing a pattern here, we had better not plan anymore family cruises as it feels like 3 will be my limit of grandchildren to keep!:grouphug:

Monday, March 19th--Day 2 at Sea:hourglass
Today was our second full day at sea. I put the hourglass after the title of my post because DH was beginning to count down the minutes until he could plant his feet on solid ground. He wasn't so sure about having so many sea days, but I really kindof liked it.
I called GS today to see if there was an upgrade available and was told no. However, I wasn't too upset by this. You see, after I unpacked all of our luggage and got everything put in its place, I really didn't think I could stand the thought of packing it all up again and moving just for a verandah.:confused3
Today was all about DH and me. We had brunch reservations for Palo, dinner reservations for Palo, and Margarita Tasting.
The day started out great! The weather was becoming more and more beautiful the farther south we got, and DH's sunburn wasn't hurting him too badly.:scared: We all slept in late again today, and to me, that makes the sea days fantastic!
Once we were all up and around, the kids did their usual disappearing act. I headed up to deck 10 to lay out in the sun for a couple of hours. DH played ping pong with DS for a while, and DD was out goofing with her new friends. DS had also discovered the arcade. Each of our kids had their own money to spend, and DS was broke by the end of the sea days.:upsidedow
At 11:00, DH and I went to the Castaway Club reception. I had to see what it was all about. We had to leave early for Palo, but we got some really nice free pens and had our names put in for a drawing.
DH and I had brunch reservations at Palo at 11:30. It was very nice. Plus, it was good to get to spend some alone time with DH. Although the kids avoided us at all costs, having brunch together by the window and watching the ocean was sortof romantic. We don't go out without the kids very often, so we intended on making this day our special day. To heck with the kids! They didn't care if we were there or not anyway.;)
After brunch, I did some more laundry. I know! I know! I just needed my collapsible hamper to remain empty. I'd see something in it and just have to wash it! Jonathan, our stateroom host, was beginning to see my laundry obsession and kept telling me that I was not supposed to be doing laundry on vacation. I had read on the DIS about the laundry facilities getting really busy towards the end of the cruise, so I didn't want to wait until the last minute. DH assured me that I didn't need to do any laundry. He was positive that we had to have enough clothes in our suitcases to last us for months.:rolleyes1
I then headed up to upgrade the Shutter's package. What? You didn't think I'd stop with the second upgrade, did you?:confused3 After that, I went up to catch some more sun. The kids went to the lab this afternoon and enjoyed themselves. DS made cookies and played video games, while DD did something called Around the World. She had a blast!
Before we knew it, it was 4:00 and time for our margarita tasting.:thumbsup2 I was pretty excited about this because if you haven't already noticed, I like "fru-fru" drinks. Boy was I surprised! I was thinking frozen margarita.:confused3 What I got was a bunch of different kinds of tequila. I tasted the first one and about fell out of my chair! I guess it was good if you like the thought of drinking rubbing alcohol. DH apparently really liked all the different kinds of tequila. He drank all of his, all of mine, and some off of the tray of another couple that was with us. We couldn't wait to watch him try to walk out afterwards. This ship was moving a little anyway, so we figured he'd give us a pretty good show.:rotfl2: There were a couple of different margaritas, but to be honest, I didn't care for them. But, don't worry, DH did! I'm not sure how he did it, but he managed to walk out without appearing to be too drunk. He was laughing and having a good ole time! Although I didn't care for the drinks, this was a fun experience for us. I enjoyed watching DH's reaction after sampling everything.
The show tonight was Twice Charmed. I think it might be my favorite one yet. The rest of the family really enjoyed it too. We were able to sit in the front row for almost every show. DD got chewed out for saving us seats one night though. I had to explain to her that although we appreciated her thoughtfulness, people kill over that sort of thing.
We were supposed to be dining in Animator's Palate tonight, but all of the adults at our table had Palo reservations. However, the mother of the other two children that were travelling with us mentioned to the kids that they should all dine together without us. Now, have I told you that my son can get a little--let's just say--out of control sometimes? When you add other naughty boys and a naughty server to that, you get TROUBLE!:sad2: (sorry again, Charlene!) Apparently some sort of napkin fight broke out at dinner. Needless to say, the next time we cruise, the kids will be dining right by the pool or ordering room service when we go to Palo. I don't think too much harm was done, but believe me, DS is still hearing about it over a week later.
I'm not sure he understands what "I brought you into this world and I can take you out" really means.:confused3 Just kidding!
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Palo! The food was probably the best we had on the entire cruise. It was a pretty long meal though. DH was about fit to be tied by the time it was over, but he loved the food as well.
We headed back to our stateroom, rounded up the kids, threatened to throw DS overboard for his rowdy behavior at dinner, and got ready for bed. Our towel animal tonight was a lobster. We all hit the bed and were out like lights. I had felt quite a bit better today and was hoping that the seasickness was really gone.
Next up: OMG! Is that 70 something year old man really totally naked?

Very amusing so far! Somehow I missed about the $12 refillable beer mugs. Please give me the details of that. I am sure my DH, DS and DSIL will like that! Unexpectedly DD is pregnant so she won't be having a beer mug! Poor dear, same thing happened to her the last time we had a family cruise.
I think I am sensing a pattern here, we had better not plan anymore family cruises as it feels like 3 will be my limit of grandchildren to keep!:grouphug:
The refillable mug costs $12. I'm not sure exactly how much the refills were, but I know they were the cost of a small beer instead of a large one. You turn in your mug every time and get a new one. They are glass and very nice. There are ESPN mugs and DCL ones. Make sure you trade for the DCL one at the end of the cruise.
BTW--I think I'm sensing a pattern with your cruising and grandchildren too. If three is your limit, you had better not rebook onboard!:lmao:

Hi We looked for you but could never find you. We went to the meeting spot and found DW4US and saw SB's Mom by the pool. I also saw Stacie and family and got to see Andy. My DD was hoping to meet up with the girls. We booked while on board and see some of you guys are on the same nov cruise. You will have to start a thread for that also.:cool1:
Great report. I feel like I am back on board. I had to laugh about the number of shoes you brought. We had a huge duffle bag of nothing but shoes. If the boat sank I think we could have all walked to land on top of the sea of shoes.:rotfl2:

Are you on the Nov. DD for 2008? If so, we have a cruise meet thread already going. Several of us from the eastern cruise are rebooked for that one. I have to be honest, I forgot about the cruise meet! Now that I'm sitting here thinking about it, I remember what happened. Our luggage started arriving and I started unpacking. When you have 9 large bags, it takes a while to unpack!:lmao: Anyway, I ended up missing the cruise meet because of it.:sad2: I really wish I had made it though because it was so fun to actually know some people on the cruise! We dined with dutchgirlscout and her family. They are awesome people! We are all booked for the 08 trip and cannot wait!:cool1:

Post them! Post them! I want to see if I can recognize you all!
You're doing a fantastic job with your report! Loving it! This is the first time I've read a trip report from someone on the same cruise as I. Very interesting. I keep looking for areas that we could have crossed paths. :)
We came away with quite a few shutter's pictures. I just can't resist a picture of the four of us together. Heck, I even buy ones where eyes are closed, heads are turned, you get the idea.:rotfl:

Tuesday, March 20th--St. Maarten
Well, we had an interesting night last night. DD went to bed fine, woke up about an hour later and ran to the bathroom to throw up. I was in the bathroom trying to make sure that there wasn't any "evidence" that Jonathan might find and then condemn us to our room. Go ahead and flame me! I might deserve it.:confused3 However, I will tell you that I had felt sortof ill since the second day of our cruise due to the motion of the ocean, AND DD had eaten about four pizzas by the pool this afternoon. I know DD, and I can tell when she is truly sick. Thank goodness she was much better after vomiting. She never got sick again and woke up fine in the morning.
We had to be in Rockin Bar D at 8:45 in the morning for our Under 2 Flags Island Tour. I had read some mixed reviews about this tour, but DH wanted to learn something while we were on this trip. Come on! Who wants to be educated while on vacation anyway?:rotfl2: Well, we were really glad that we did this excursion. It started raining part way through it, but we did enjoy it. We got to see both sides of the island and were dropped off to shop for about 45 minutes. We were amazed at how the animals there just roam about freely. We saw all sorts of animals, and not one of them was tied up or in a pen. In fact, as our bus was driving down the road, the bus driver had to put on the brakes. We look out the window and saw a herd of wild goats, sheep, a few cows, a bunch of chickens, and some dogs crossing the road and running right through the ditch beside us. You just don't see that sort of thing in Kansas!;) We learned quite a bit about both sides of the island, bought a few souvenirs, and headed back to the ship.
We went and grabbed some lunch once we returned to the ship because we had a DCL excursion to Orient Bay planned for the afternoon. It had stopped raining and looked as if it was going to be a beautiful day.
We showed up in Rockin Bar D by 1:30 for our Afternoon Beach Bash Tour. I had also read some things about Orient Bay, but remember, I'm a slow learner.:rolleyes1 When we arrive by bus to Orient Bay, we approach the beach and find our beach chairs. I thought I was going to have to do a WWF Smackdown on some lady who decided to run right past us and grab our chairs, but I remembered that this was Disney--the Happiest Place on Earth.:cloud9: So, we get settled in a few chairs farther down, and it starts to POUR down rain. Not just a little! It's a torrential downpour! Of course, the guy selling the umbrellas had just come by to offer me one for a measly $3, and I had kindly refused. What the heck was I thinking?:sad2:
I'm sitting there thinking this just might end up being the most miserable day I've ever had when all of a sudden, it just stops. The sun came out, and it ended up being a gorgeous day. Who would have guessed it? That kind of stuff can certainly only happen at the Happiest Place on Earth.:goodvibes

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l213/disneypoor/1000264_084.jpg
The kids immediately get in the water, and DH goes to rent a couple of boogie boards for the kids to "ride the waves" with. They had a blast! I'm sitting there watching them have a great time when all of a sudden I look up, and holy you know what! I think I see a totally naked man coming our way!:scared1: I don't draw attention to it because I don't really want the kids to notice. The man gets closer and closer, and I realize that he is literally letting it all hang out, and he is very tan with no tan lines. I can hardly contain myself. I've never seen such a thing--I mean a 70 something year old thing. He didn't have a care in the world and kept walking up and down the beach.
Well, there were plenty more where the 70 year old man came from. By this time, DD and DS were working on building sand castles. I told DH about the man, and we both try to hide it from the kids. DS is deep in his sandcastle when all of a sudden he stands up, points, and busts out laughing! Yep! He's spotted a naked one. We quickly tell him not to point and to be quiet. It worked for a while. He would continue to build his sand castle, stop, point, and tell us, "here comes another one!" A lady next to us was about to wet her pants watching DS. DD just tried to ignore all of them. I think she was embarassed by their nudity. Eventually, lots and lots of naked people strolled along our end of the beach. It got to the point that DH and DS were trying to figure out if some were men or women.:confused3 You really couldn't tell for sure on some of them. Most of the women had on thongs, but even some of the men had on thongs as well. DS fell into hysterics on that one. What a day! All I kept thinking about was what DS was going to tell his teacher when she asked how the trip was.:sad2: We did have a fantastic time at Orient Bay, and yes, it would have been fun even without the nudity.
After our educating experience at the beach:lmao: , we headed back for the ship. This was the night that there was not a scheduled show, but they were showing Bridge to Terabithia. DH took DD to see it. He has told me over and over again how sad it was. He tries to tell me what it was about and then gets choked up. I'm guessing it must be a real tearjerker!:sad1:
We had dinner at Parrot Cay tonight, and it was Pirate's Night. I made us all dress up, so we could get a picture, of course.;) The picture turned out great, and we had the kids get one together by the lifestyle portrait person. It turned out great! So, guess what? Looks like we'll be upgrading that Shutter's package again.:rolleyes1
Pirate's Night was a lot of fun. After dinner, DD wanted to go to the kids' club, and DS wanted to go play basketball and visit the arcade. DH and I went to the Pirate Party. I couldn't believe the food setup! I had missed it on our first cruise. They go all out for this pirate stuff!pirate: It was a fun night, but we were getting tired. We get the kids, head back to the room, and find a monkey hanging from our curtain. We needed some sleep because we had big plans for tomorrow.
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l213/disneypoor/1000273_093.jpg
I should also add that I think Jocelyn, the nice lady at the rebooking desk, probably thought I was stalking her. I had filled out one of the papers for rebooking onboard and dropped it in her box to let her know that I already had a booking but wanted to see about rolling it over to the onboard offer. She wasn't at her desk until Tuesday, but guess what? I was one of the first to go see her. She was much faster than me! She had already read my request, made the changes, and we were now booked (with a discount and $200 onboard credit:banana: ) for the Thanksgiving Double Dip in 2008! She had even rolled over our deposit, so there was no more money involved, and there was no cancelling our first reservation or anything. Jocelyn handled it all!:goodvibes

I can honestly say that I don't have a clue how to post pictures. Is there a Pictures for Dummies on this board somewhere so I can learn?:confused3
Hi disneypoor,
I too searched the DIS for Pictures for Dummies and didn't have much luck - and pictures really are fun! For my TR (I am up to Thursday, a month later) - here is what I have done and it's really working out well.
To post pictures to your posts, they have to be on the Internet somewhere.
Go to www.photobucket.com and create a profile (user name and password - it's free). Then, use the browse button to upload 3 or more pictures at a time to your photobucket account, so as long as you have digital pictures or you can scan them to digital, you can get them to the Internet.
Once you have uploaded your pictures, use the EDIT feature to change them to the "Messageboard" size.
Then, for any picture you want to include in your post, if you click on the IMG option under the picture, it copies the photobucket URL to your clipboard automatically with the extra coding that the DIS needs already included in the information. Then, in your DIS post, you put your cursor where you want the picture and then hit CTRL V (Paste) and the entire URL for your picture is instantly in your post.
Upload, Edit to Message Board size, Copy, Paste - done!
Good luck!

Okay, Elizabeth, is there such a thing as Pictures for REALLY Dumb Dummies?:lmao: I have messed and messed with it and can't seem to get it to work. It keeps saying that it can't upload the pictures. I have the pictures on a disk, would that be causing a problem? I'm just about to throw my laptop right out the front door! I need to find my happy place. Oh, yeah! It's at sea today and I won't be back on it until 2008. I could be hard to live with for the next 19 months.:rolleyes1

Hi Disneypoor,
Hmmm - are your images 1024 x 768, and jpg? Maybe try copying one pic to your Desktop, resize and see if you can upload. Try checking your album settings too... Once it's up and working, it's a breeze...
Feel free to chime in other DIS'ers, if you have any ideas! Good luck!

Wednesday, March 21st--St. Thomas/St. John:cloud9:
We had to be in the Walt Disney Theater at 6:15 this morning. It wasn't actually as bad as I had thought it would be. We had an excursion scheduled anyway, so we needed to be up. Immigration went quickly, and we headed up to Topsiders for breakfast.
After we finished breakfast, we had to be at Animator's Palate by 7:15 for our St. John Trunk Bay Beach and Snorkel Tour. We had to be tendered in to St. Thomas, but since we had an excursion planned, a ferry picked us up right from the ship.
The ferry ride over to St. John was fabulous.:thumbsup2 The guy who was doing the narrating did a super job, and I personally loved getting to see some of the houses of famous people. I don't know why, but I just love that kind of thing. My son got to see one of Michael Jordan's homes, and that was one of the highlights of his trip! Forget Disney, just show him anything that has to do with Michael Jordan, and he's happy.:confused3 We also saw Madonna's house, David Letterman's, and the guy who owns White Castle. The ocean was very, very rough for the ride over though. I actually did very well with it. I was nervous when we first left because just looking at the movement of the ocean was sortof giving me the heebie jeebies.:scared1: We sat on the top deck of the ferry, and I was glad we did. I think the people on the bottom deck were getting wet.
On the way over we saw a ferry or something like that that had hit the reef and was sortof sitting there lopsided with big waves crashing up against it. That scared me a little. What if that ended up being us? Our ferry driver did a great job, and he got us there all safe and sound.
Once we arrived at St. John, we boarded an open air bus that took us to Trunk Bay. The drive to Trunk Bay was very interesting. You could definitely tell you weren't in Kansas anymore.;) It was very tropical, and we saw banana trees, termite nests, more wild goats, etc. I did really feel like I was in the middle of the rain forest. We stopped a few times for pictures, and they are almost postcard perfect.
We crested a hill, and I think my jaw hit the floor of the bus! Was this heaven? No, but it had to be something like it. It was Trunk Bay.:cool1: The driver proceeded down to the parking lot and let us off the bus. We were given a quick rundown of where things were and were told where to get our snorkeling gear, and off we went.
Everyone should experience the beauty of St. John at some point in their lives. The water was beautiful, the sand was pure white, and Kenny Chesney has been there.:rotfl: My kids had a blast! There were some rather large waves, and I think the kids had more fun in those waves than they did anywhere else on the trip. DS dove into a wave and came up with a face full of sand. Oops! DD sat close to the beach and let the waves throw her around a little. I think she probably still has sand stuck in places you just don't want sand to be stuck.:lmao: We snorkeled a little bit, but to be honest, we really didn't see much. We didn't care though. This place was beautiful, and we were experiencing it together as a family.:grouphug:
There must be something about us and nudity though. You see, we are all sitting there on the beach having a wonderful time watching DD roll around in the sandy water and watching DS build a sandcastle, when what is this? This nice group of people comes over by us and asks us if it's okay if they put their stuff in the area by ours. Sure! Well, what happened next almost brought me back to the beach at Orient Bay yesterday. First, the kids strip down butt naked and get their suits on. Okay, I can handle that just fine. But THEN, a woman decides to do the same. She was trying to be somewhat discreet about it, but we couldn't help but notice. The important thing was that DD and DS were oblivious this time. Thank goodness! I mean, afterall, I want my kids to have something to go back and tell their teachers and classmates about that doesn't have to do with breasts, butts, and other wrinkly things.:lmao:
Our time at St. John soon came to an end, and we headed back to try to get the sand off of us and load back onto the bus. Our bus driver was a little late because there were so many tourists there on that day, but we still made it back in plenty of time. The ferry ride back to St. Thomas was fine, but the sun was beating down on us people on the top deck. You do remember that I put in a laughing icon for the people who were sitting on the bottom deck getting wet on the way over, right? Well, who's laughing now? The sun was intense, and I sortof wished I was getting wet!:cool2:
The ferry didn't drop us back off at the ship like I was hoping it would. It dropped us off close to the tender, and it had just started raining a little bit. DH decided that we just had to go do Paradise Point. We had booked it through DCL but cancelled when DCL left a message on our stateroom voicemail that due to the tendering, we'd have to pay a taxi to get us to and from Paradise Point. I decided I didn't want to mess with it nor pay a taxi, but DH wanted to do it anyway. As it turned out, we were glad we did it. The cost wasn't any different than DCL's, and the taxi was $4 per person each way. The view from the cable cars and once you get to the top is amazing! The kids watched a bird show that was pretty cute, and we decided we'd better head back to the ship.
We caught a taxi, and we headed back for the Magic. It was raining hard now. The taxi driver stopped and picked up another man and then headed for our ship. However, he thought he was going to drop us off about a block away from our tender. Remember, it was a downpour now! I decided that if he wanted his money, he'd take us right to where we needed to be.;) He did so without too much hesitation, and we ran straight for cover under DCL's tent. The rain just kept coming and coming and coming! People were filling into the tent quickly, and we soon loaded the tender and headed to the most beautiful ship in port that day:flower3: (and there were six of them).
Once we got back on the ship, we ordered room service and showered. DH and the kids rested a little bit while I went to deck 4 to walk. I got to see an airplane taking off out of the water, and since I've led a sheltered life:laughing: , I thought this was pretty amazing. It was still raining a little outside, but it had let up from earlier.
After going to upgrade my Shutter's package again:rolleyes1, I went back to the room to find the rest of my family. I told DH that I had just upgraded our picture package to the 8 8X10's with 5 6X8's for $169.95. I won't tell you what he said.:rotfl2: We headed off to watch Gary Delena, a rock and roll comedian that had flown into St. Thomas to be on the Disney ship. He had a lot of energy and did a great job. We then went to the atrium to trade pins with the officers. My kids got into pin trading a couple of years ago, and I really like to look at all of the pins they've collected. They make great keepsakes, and they aren't really that expensive. I'll take anything over ANOTHER stuffed animal!
Dinner tonight was at Lumiere's. We let the kids talk us into letting them skip dinner tonight and do their own thing. As it turned out, all of the other families at our table must have had the same idea. One of the family's didn't come to dinner at all, and the other family came with just their baby. DH and I had a very nice, relaxing dinner with Stacie and Kevin and baby Andy. It was so peaceful, and we were really enjoying getting to know them.
After dinner, we rounded up the kids AGAIN and headed back to our stateroom to call it a day. We found what I thought was a dog towel animal with sunglasses on our bed. The rest of the family swears it was a bunny with sunglasses.:confused3 We also had an invite to a DVC meeting the next day. Hmmm! That sounds good. DH gave me "a look", but I was determined to go with or without him. Maybe if he sleeps on it, he will have adjusted his attitude by tomorrow.:confused3
Next up: I'm so sick:sick: ! I think I'll go shopping!:thumbsup2

No, we were a couple rows back on the right hand side I think. The only thing I can think of is... there was a really sunburnt little girl sitting behind us. Someone from the front row kept coming back to check on her and tried to help make her more comfortable. That ring a bell at all? :confused3

Just have a few things to say about this paragraph. First, I'm so glad you enjoyed the Under 2 Flags tour! :thumbsup2 We are doing that in September and I hadn't read many reviews for it so I'm very glad that you did! :goodvibes
Second, I think its :lmao: that you say you don't see animals running around in Kansas but call me ignorant, thats what I pictured Kansas to be like! I know better now, I'm a city girl :headache: Ok back to reading your fab report! :wizard:

Disneypoor,
As far as the pics go, have you uploaded them to photobucket? (that's the easiest way to do it) Once you sign up (quick, painless, free but don't give them your real cell #, they text you) there will be a browse button for you to select your pics on your computer you want to upload, once you have selected your pictures, click upload. After they are done uploading, click on my album (upper rh corner)...in "my album" you will see thumbnails of each pic you uploaded. Underneath the thumbnail it will say URL link, HTML tag, and IMG code followed by a line of code in a box. All you have to do to post a pic is right click on the box next to "IMG Code" and COPY the line of code text. Next just paste this line of text directly into your TR where you want the photo to appear- do not click on the "Add image" button or paste the code into the enter http box, just paste it directly into the text of your trip report. That should work, it did for me and I am brand new to BB pics. Let me know if you have anymore Q's..I look forward to seeing your pics, I am really digging your TR!!! :goodvibes

We did enjoy the island tour, and I have to admit that it was fun to learn about both sides of the island. I think it's hilarious that you think Kansas has a bunch of wild animals running around it.:lmao: One time I told a "city friend" that my DH was in the field, and she wanted to know what time his game started.:rotfl: I meant he was in the field planting soybeans. When you've grown up around farm life, you just take some things for granted I guess.:rotfl2:
Jen--I have tried to upload pictures just like you explained it to me, but I just can't get it to work. Where are you from? Could you come over to my house and help me?:rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Thursday, March 22nd--a day at sea:sick:
We all slept in a little bit today. The seas were REALLY rough today, and I woke up not feeling well. This was by far the worst that I had felt throughout the trip. I can't remember how high the waves were, but I do know that I couldn't even look towards the water without feeling ill.:sad2:
I tried to rest for a little while, but it really wasn't helping. DH and kids went and found their own stuff to do for a while so that I could try to get to feeling better. I showered, and although I was sortof sick, I decided to do some more laundry. Pathetic, I know.;) The laundry room on deck 2 was EXTREMELY hot, and I felt like throwing up the second I got in there! I started my laundry and then headed back to the room to try to recover from my own personal summer.:rotfl:
Basically, all I did for the entire morning was lay around and try to talk myself into not feeling whatever it was that I was feeling. I was sortof grumpy too:rolleyes1, and I think DH decided to stay away from me so he wouldn't have to throw me overboard. To be honest, I felt so lousy that I didn't even bother to ask what DH and the kids did on that morning.:confused3
Finally, at around 1:00 I decided to go to a DVC meeting. I made an appointment for DH and I to visit with a lady about becoming DVC members at 4:30. Should I tell DH, or just surprise him?:lmao:
I also decided that a cure for any ailment is shopping, so I hit the stores on the ship. Although I don't really think the stores have all that much to choose from, I did manage to spend a couple hundred dollars in about fifteen minutes.:scared1: I was feeling better though.:upsidedow I bought shirts, pins, a lithogram (which I got signed by the captain), a 2007 photo album, and a scrapbooking kit which will probably just go in the drawer with the kit from 2006 that I haven't even begun working on yet.:scared: Wow! It's amazing what a little shopping can do for a woman!
At 2:30, DH and I decided to go see "Wild Hogs". We had planned on doing this since we first boarded the ship, and I knew DH would be very disappointed if I didn't go with him. As it turned out, I was glad I did! It was very funny, and I actually started feeling a whole lot better after the movie. I guess laughter makes a woman feel even better than shopping.:goodvibes
Did I mention that DH despises anything that even sortof resembles a timeshare speech? Well, I had to break it to him that "we", not "I", had an appointment at 4:30 to meet with a lady about becoming DVC members. Boy, he loved that. He's just not into that sort of thing, and I knew it before we went. But, I thought maybe just this one time he'd see the benefit. Wrong! I think the lady that we met with was ready to get rid of us. She didn't pressure us at all, and I think she was rather relieved when DH couldn't ask her any more questions.:rotfl2: Maybe next time.
After our grueling meeting with a DVC rep (and I mean grueling for myself and the DVC rep:rolleyes: ), we decided to go to the room and order room service. I ran into the ship's doctor on the elevator on the way back, and he asked me how my sea legs were doing. I told him that as long as I didn't look at or think about the water I thought I was going to be okay. Apparently there were a lot of people who were much worse off than I was according to the doctor. Although I'd say this hadn't been a very good day for me, I do have to admit that it could have been much worse.
We relaxed in the room for a little while after eating some snacks from room service and just waited around for the show. The show for tonight was Disney Dreams. I really liked that one! We were in the front row again, and things are just SO amazing when you see them that close! I'd highly recommend getting to the shows early enough to sit towards the front. During one of the shows, one of the characters even came down and sortof sang directly to DD. She didn't quite know what to do, but I thought it was a magical moment.:cloud9:
Dinner tonight was at Animator's Palate. I don't recall what I had for dinner that night because I was still trying to fight off being seasick. However, I'm sure I ate. I don't turn down good food that easily.
We headed back to our stateroom and found our towel animal for the evening--a lobster. I started thinking about all of the packing that I'd have to do tomorrow night and began to get a little sad that our trip was soon going to be coming to an end. However, tomorrow was Castaway Cay, and that was my favorite part of Disney cruises! I couldn't wait to see that place again, and I was also excited thinking about the fact that I'd get to go there twice in one cruise for our 2008 cruise! It just doesn't get any better than that.:)
It started storming outside and rained for most of the night, but we all fell sound asleep in anticipation of the day ahead of us.
Next Installment: Can I move to Castaway Cay?

Well whatdoyaknow... we were in that movie too! I'm not longer surprised about all of these similarities! You were obviously stalking me! ;)
That Thursday was awful movement-wise. Even I didn't handle it all that well, and it really doesn't bother me all that much. We were at Palo that evening and I felt like our table was going to just topple right over.

Too bad I can't figure out the whole picture thing.:confused3 I'm watching for pictures on your trip report because SURELY I saw either you or your DW somewhere on the ship.
And yes, the ocean was very rough that day. I seriously couldn't even look towards the windows or the water without feeling sick. I did take Bonine and I think it helped some, but I wasn't expecting it to be quite that rough. On our first cruise, I don't even think we saw a ripple in the water.:goodvibes

Friday, March 23rd--Castaway Cay:love:
First of all, I can't believe I forgot to mention the character breakfast we had on Thursday morning. We really liked it. The food was nothing to write home about, but the characters were a big plus!:thumbsup2 My kids are just starting to get to that age where they aren't really too excited to pose for pictures with characters, but when the characters come to your table, they have no choice.:rotfl: I got some great pictures with LOTS of characters. I'm convinced that if it's characters you want, the cruise is a much easier place to get the pictures and the autographs than the parks are.
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l213/disneypoor/1000343_158.jpg
Okay--Castaway Cay! What can I say about Castaway Cay? I love it! I would spend my entire trip there if I could! It is, by far, my families' favorite place on the cruise!
We were able to sleep in just a little on Castaway Cay day because we couldn't get off the ship too early anyway. The temperature was a little chilly when we first stepped off of the ship, but it wasn't too bad.
The first thing we did was head for the beach chairs. I didn't really care too much about getting a hammock, but I did want to get prime beach chairs if possible. So, we decided to walk rather than take the tram because we think it's just a little bit faster.
Of course, I did have to annoy my family on the way to the beach. I just had to have pictures of the Flying Dutchman! Oh, and what's this? A Johnny Depp look alike to take pictures with? My family kept saying, "Let's go! Let's go!" But, I won! Here's the proof:
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l213/disneypoor/1000349_164.jpg
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l213/disneypoor/1000350_165.jpg
Okay, now that we had the "must do's" over with, we proceeded for the beach. We ended up having our choice of some pretty good beach chairs. We could have probably even had a hammock if we wanted, but I was happy with front row beach chairs so I could watch the kids playing in the sand and water.
We had decided to do the packaged excursion with the snorkel equipment, bicycle rentals, and float rentals. Since it was a little chilly out, we opted to do the bicycle rentals first.
My DD was completely thrilled that she had to wear a helmet, but we hopped on our bikes to check things out. The bicycle riding was fun. It was neat to get to see a little more of the island. The last time we had visited CC, we just stayed on the family beach and didn't go any farther.
The kids got a little bit ahead of DH and me, and we noticed that DD seemed to be a little "out of control". Well, DH turns to me and says that he thinks DD is out of control and about that time, she runs over a man that is walking on the path.:rotfl2: Now, this about sends DH and me into hysterics. I know--we're pretty pathetic people, but it was pretty funny. The path we were on was VERY wide, so we aren't real sure what in the world DD was doing! The man took it very well and just told DD that she was supposed to go around the people. He did laugh about it as well though.
On our way back, it began to sprinkle a little bit. I started wondering if our time at CC was going to be spoiled by the weather, but the rain didn't last long, and the day ended up being beautiful.
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l213/disneypoor/1000355_169.jpg
We headed back for the beach after returning our bicycles and teasing DD about her out of control driving. Thank goodness she still has a few years before she can get a driver's license!:lmao: I did forget to mention that DH was videotaping while riding his bicycle (it's amazing he didn't hit anyone), so we got to have the whole running over the man thing on tape. Priceless!
We spent a little bit of time just lounging in our beach chairs and then decided to get lunch. Lunch was pretty good. In fact, it was better than I had remembered it being last time. I think DS ate atleast 3 or 4 ice-cream cones before I was even done with my lunch.
After lunch, we just relaxed on the beach. It just doesn't get any better than that. DD went to play in the water with one of her friends from the DIS, DS decided to work on a sandcastle, and DH and I just laid in the sun. Finally, DH and DS decided to snorkel, and they thought that I should join them.
Well, I put one toe in the water and probably said some things out loud that I shouldn't have said.:rotfl2: OMG! That water was freezing cold--even for just my toes! I quickly decided that the rest of my family could snorkel, and that I didn't care if I wasted money on snorkeling equipment. I would be much better off in my beach chair!:thumbsup2
So, DH and the kids snorkeled, and I just lounged with a few beverages. DH says he saw a small shark while he was snorkeling. He took a picture, but of course, it didn't turn out.:rolleyes1 DD and her friend said they saw a baracuda, but I'm not totally sure that is what they saw. DD knows her fish better than I do though, so who knows?
DH assured me that the water wasn't cold after you got used to it, but I just took his word for it. We laid around in the sun for a few more hours, and then I decided to go buy some souvenirs. I hadn't bought anything at CC the last time we cruised, and I sortof regretted it when we got home. So, this time I was going to make sure I spent some money!
Several t-shirts and beach towels later, I returned to see that DH had buried DS in the sand and made him look like a body builder with huge muscles. It was pretty cool looking! It was about 3:00 in the afternoon, and we decided we had probably had enough sun and should head back to the ship.
DH returned the snorkel equipment, and I took the kids to get the sand showered off of themselves. The first time we visited CC, I got a great picture of the kids by those large ball things. Well, I decided that we just had to have another picture. Make sure you look at DS's expression. He was just a big pain in the butt when it came to pictures for this cruise.
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l213/disneypoor/1000366_180.jpg
Once we got back to the ship, DH and kids decided to get cleaned up for the show and dinner. I went to Shutter's to get some more pictures:rolleyes1 , and then I headed to Guest Services to close our onboard account. I had purchased a gift card from the Disney store long before we left for our trip so that I could have everything paid for and wouldn't have to worry about anything when we got back home, but I still had to pay a little bit more.:sad2:
The show tonight was Remember the Magic, and I was kindof sad thinking about how fast the week had gone by. I was also sad thinking about having to get off of the ship to head straight to the airport. Last year, we stayed at WDW and did two of the parks. That wasn't in the plans this year.:sad1:
Dinner tonight was at Parrot Cay. It was a depressing dinner. We had to say goodbye to Evan and Gabor, and I really felt like crying. I was going to miss them. Evan swore that when he is off in October he is going to come to Kansas to work on our dairy farm. However, Evan is pretty ornery, so I'm not sure we'll really see him in October.:confused3
After saying our goodbyes, we headed for the Atrium for the Farewell Party. Now, this is the place for good character pictures! The lines weren't too long, and there was every character you could imagine! I would post some, but DS was being a real joy again, so none of them turned out very good. Plus, when I look at his expressions in the pictures, I just want to hurt him all over again, so I should probably not even go there.:rotfl2:
After we finished getting our pictures, we headed back to the room to pack up our stuff and get all nine of our bags sat out for poor Jonathan. We found Jonathan and thanked him and gave him his tip. We felt that our servers and stateroom host were outstanding this year, and we tipped accordingly.:) I hate to say this (but I can since DH doesn't read the boards:lmao: ), but DH is sometimes what I would call "tight". Well, even DH thought that we should tip above and beyond the recommended amount this time. Everyone we dealt with went the extra mile this year, and we really appreciated it. My jaw hit the floor when DH told me what he thought we should give:eek: , but it felt really good to hand that tip envelope over to everyone who had made our trip so special.
We all decided to reminisce about our trip and then went to bed. This would be the last night of our "Magic"al vacation.:sad1:
Next up: Our Magical vacation is over. Or is it?;)

:lmao: You really can't blame your DD. What happened is called "target fixation" and it happens ALL THE TIME. Just think of all the times you see a car accident with the car just happening to hit a tree when there aren't any others for hundreds of yards in either direction. You tend to go where you look. I'm 100% confident that if your DD looked for an escape route instead of the poor bloke she would have scooted right past him. Nevertheless, I found the incident to be absolutely hilarious, which I guess makes me a pathetic person as well! Must be something about that age. My similarly-aged nephew almost did a similar thing but he bailed and jumped off his bike first! :rotfl2:
Someday when you make a pre-wedding video that clip MUST be included. Good things we live in a digital age because it can now be passed down for generations upon generations without degradation of quality.
Great trip report. You're inspiring me to try my hand on my own (for our 3/24 Western) but there is no way I can even come close to matching the entertainment value of yours. :thumbsup2

One of the best TR's I have seen. Glad you had such a good time. I too am going on another cruise this year. I sailed on Feb 10th Western and am leaving Friday for Orlando to sail on 4/14 Eastern. Of course, a lot of that has to do with I have a daughter who is mainstage performer on board and I want to see her perfrom again before her contract is up.
But I could really get used to this cruising thing. February was my first time on any cruise and I just loved it.
Thanks again for great report.

Saturday, March 24th--Saying Goodbye to the Magic:sad1:
We got up fairly early this morning and started getting all of our things together so we could go to breakfast. Last year, we skipped breakfast on the last day, but we liked our tablemates and servers SO much this year, that we really wanted to get that one last chance to say goodbye. I was sad just thinking about how fast this week had gone.
We headed up to Parrot Cay and were told by this very stern, monotone, expressionless man that the doors weren't opening yet and we had 20 more minutes to wait. I quickly started remembering how some people on the DIS had reported that many of the workers on the ship were not quite as nice towards the end of the cruise as they were in the beginning, and I was thinking maybe they were right.:confused3 However, I am happy to say that every other person we encountered after the grumpy man were just as nice as could be.
As we were sitting in the hall waiting for them to open the doors, I heard a boy holler to my DS. He came over and did sortof a wrestling move on my DS (you know how boys are:) :) ), and I thought to myself how cool it was that the kids had made so many great friends this year. They REALLY had a great vacation and made some friends that made their trip very magical. So, DS and his friend say goodbye, and I start to get sortof weepy.:sad2:
They open the doors to Parrot Cay, and we head in to say our final farewells to Evan and Gabor as well as the VanWeelden's who had dined with us every night. The breakfast was not, IMO, very good. However, I'm not really a breakfast person anyway, so it didn't bother me. I couldn't get the lump in my throat to disappear anyway, so food wasn't going to help that. We see the VanWeelden's come in, but realize that we probably need to get going pretty quickly because we had a 12:50 flight to catch.
After many hugs and tears, we say our goodbyes. I'm just plain sad at this point. The only thing that kept me going was knowing that we'd be seeing the VanWeelden's on our 08 Double Dip!:cool1:
We headed to the atrium and stopped for a few more pictures and then went down the escalators to find our luggage. This is the point in the trip that I asked myself why in the you know what did I bring so much luggage? Well, as I had feared, one of our suitcases was missing. Guess whose it was? Yep, mine. I went from fairly nice to a @*&@* in a few seconds flat. How could they have lost MY suitcase? Well, after getting help from some lady, I finally spot it in the wrong section. Whew! I could start taking slow breaths again and try to go back to my happy place.:cloud9:
We went outside and got in line for the Budget shuttle to take us back to get our car rented for the return trip to the airport. We didn't have to wait for too long, but while we're waiting, we see the VanWeelden's again and all the tears start flowing all over again.:sad1: We said goodbye one last time, got on our shuttle, rented our car, and we were on our way to the airport.
As we were leaving Port Canaveral, we all waved goodbye to "our ship". This had been a great vacation! We had quality time together as a family (even though we rarely saw the kids;) ), and we were able to see some places we had only dreamed about. Life was good, and we felt blessed to be so lucky.
Final Installment: It ain't over until I say it's over!:rotfl:

We were going to be on that cruise, we switched to this one because it was during my kids' (DS14, DD12) spring break they only had to miss two days school for an 11-day trip, worth the extra $$$$. Maybe we could meet on the 12/15/07 or 11/22/08 cruise?

Gabor was our server back in 2003 and I agree he is the best. His accent was a tad hard to understand but he sure knew how to treat us ladies!!!!!
It was amazing how the little things he did at dinner just put me on :cloud9: and he treated me like a princess:
He showed us pictures from Hungary and even recommended a Hungarian wine (which had me holding onto the railings in the hallways on the way back to the room).
He even gave us his email address which I promptly lost after we got home.
I only wish I knew on my last cruise that you can request servers because I would definitely have requested him again (especially since we had our worst dining experience ever on our last cruise).
Loved your TR.

The end of the Magic:wizard:
We arrived at the airport, returned our rental car, and lugged all nine of our bags plus our new cooler to the Midwest counter. I'm thinking to myself that I will never, ever travel with that many bags ever again! Ever! It was a whole lot more fun getting the bags to the ship than it was getting them back home;) .
We get checked in and head up to the Midwest area to sit and wait for our flight. We are sitting there thinking about how tired we are (atleast DH and I were tired), when the man at the Midwest counter gets on his loud speaker and announces that our flight is overbooked and that they are looking for people to give up their seats:scared1: . I barely make eye contact with DH before rushing up to the counter to see what the "deal" is.
The man explains to me that they need three seats and will give round trip tickets, hotel stay, and food vouchers for the airport. I tell him we have four seats, he says no problem, and I say, "DEAL"! DH wants to know if I'm sure about this, but all I can think about is the fact that we can extend the "Magic" for one more day!
We visit with the man about the procedure for getting our luggage back and talk about the details of everything else. He made it all sound so easy:rolleyes: . Roundtrip tickets for everyone--check. Hotel stay--check. Food voucher for airport--check. We were set!
After about an hour and half, our luggage FINALLY starts arriving at the baggage claim area. I head back to Budget to rent a car again while DH and kids wait on our bags. The people at the Budget counter look at me like I'm crazy when they realize that I just returned a car and now want another one. I try to explain that I am now on a Mickey high and don't care that I have to have a new reservation. DUH! I get the car and head up to help out with the luggage.
I can tell as I'm approaching DH that something is wrong:sad2: . Apparently it didn't quite work as smoothly as nice Midwest guy explained that it would. Some of our luggage was on the plane heading back to Kansas City:eek: ! Oh well! We had a bag of a few dirty clothes (remember, I did laundry all of the time, so I'm pretty sure the fact that I had some dirty clothes in a bag was just pixie dust coming my way), and we could get by for just one night.
We check in to our hotel and start driving towards the parks. We decided that we'd do Magic Kingdom because it was open the latest and it was already 2:00 by this time. After handing over $273, we are there!:cool1:
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l213/disneypoor/1000386_199.jpg
We didn't realize how tired we really were. We were all on that "Mickey High" when we first arrived at the parks. After riding some of our favorite rides, we started to wear down quickly. We had said that we'd stay until the park closed:rotfl: , but I think we forgot that we aren't what we used to be. DH and I were dragging butt! The kids even started wearing down. We had a great time, but we all needed some sleep! I will say that we did ride a lot of rides in a fairly short amount of time, and the lines weren't really that bad. Once we finished riding our "favorites" atleast once and some a few times, DH and I decided that we just had to have some sleep.
We get to the hotel, shower, get a snack, and hit the bed.:faint: What a day! DH keeps asking if I'm sure we should have taken Midwest up on their offer. The "tight" side of him is looking at all of the money we spent on the rental car and tickets to the park:rolleyes1 . I try to brush his comments off, but I'm secretly wondering the same.:confused3 Afterall, we had to get up at 4:00 a.m. to head to the airport.:scared:
We all get up pretty easily and head to the airport. I return the car to Budget again, and we start hauling our luggage all over again. It's at this point that I realize that maybe I'm glad Midwest sent some of our luggage to Kansas City without us.:lmao:
We get checked in and head to Burger King at the airport to use up some of our food voucher. Midwest had given us a $40 food voucher, and we knew we wouldn't use it all, but we thought we'd atleast get some breakfast. While we are paying, the lady behind the counter asks us if we know she can't give us cash back. We tell her that is okay, and she says that we should buy some more stuff. We take a few more things for the plane like apples, some cinnamon rolls, and then we decide we just don't want any more. DH tells the lady to start putting other people's food on our ticket. You should have seen the looks on some of their faces! They thought there was a catch or something. Nope, it was just us trying to use up our voucher. There were some pretty happy people at Burger King that morning.:grouphug:
We head to the Midwest area and collapse on the chairs. We were all so tired we could barely stay awake. Once again, the man comes over the loud speaker looking for people to give up their seats. You know what I did? I looked at DH and said they couldn't offer me enough to give up my seats today. I was tired and just wanted to go home.:upsidedow
We board the plane, and DD and I fall asleep immediately. I didn't even realize we had taken off! DD had those "sleep lines" all over her face, and I was totally out of it. It was the fastest flight I've ever been on! I think I like flying when I'm so exhausted I can't sit up straight.:rotfl2:
We arrived back to Kansas City in a flash, got our luggage, and headed for home sweet home.
This vacation was truly a magical vacation for us. It's something we only dreamed about but was now a reality. And, we rebooked, so we get to do it all over again!:thumbsup2
After a couple of days of rest, I started feeling very sad about not getting to go to Disney or do a cruise for such a long time, so I decided to put those "free" tickets to use. We are now booked (with my entire family) to go to Disneyland next October.:cool1:
So, although I won't get to post a trip report on the DCL site any time soon, I'll feed my addiction by following up on everyone else's reports, and I'll look forward to the Disneypoor families' Disneyland trip report coming up in only 6 short months.:hourglass

I will tell you, the "free" tickets are not easy to use. We have four in our family and there are never four seats available for the free tickets on one flight. That's why we are going to Disneyland in October. We could actually all go, but we have to go out on two different flights. I was a little disappointed in Midwest because they made it sound like it would be no problem at all to use them, but it really was. However, I shouldn't complain, we're going to Disney again! Just know that if you need more than two or three seats, the chances of ever finding a flight to use your free tickets on is almost impossible.

Hi Susan,
I enjoyed reading your trip report and reliving a little bit of our cruise. I think we may have "observed" the same naked old guy at Orient Beach!!! We were there in the morning and he strolled by us a couple of times --- he must do that all day considering how tan he was.
It was fun to talk to you on the St. John trip --- wish I was back there now! St. John and Castaway Cay are fantastic! I can also relate to your scrapbooking block --- I too have all the supplies and albums stored away, waiting. I really want them to be done but everytime I think I might start something comes up.
Enjoy your upcoming trips --- wish I was planning one. The most exciting thing we have going is a week long trip to Table Rock Lake and Branson in July.

Hi, Patty! I wish I was back at St. John too.:cloud9: It was nice getting to talk to you on our excursion. We should get together in KC sometime to reminisce about the trip and have lunch.
I'll bet that we did see the same "naked guy".:lmao: He acted pretty proud of himself and just kept strolling by over and over again. And, you're right, he did not have any tan lines.:rotfl2:
I'm sure you'll be planning a disney trip soon, especially since you're DVC. We went and talked to the people about becoming members, but I just couldn't talk DH into it.:sad2: Maybe next time.
Talk to you soon!

I planned on going to bed an hour ago, but I wanted to read your AWESOME report! 10 pages later, I am thoroughly tired, but will have sweet dreams thinking about our first cruise EVER in November! (7 day Eastern - that's what got me reading your TR!) Thanks!:thumbsup2

I'm glad you enjoyed my TR. You will have so much fun on your cruise! We cruised once and were hooked! You will have to let me know how you like cruising in November. We are doing the Double Dip in 08 over Thanksgiving week, so I'd love you hear how the weather is at that time.:goodvibes

I loved your TR, we are taking the Eastern Cruise in Jan of 2008, and it can't get here soon enough.
I do have a question for you...
I noticed in St Martin you did 2 excursions..the under 2 flags tour and the afternoon beach bash. Did you have enought ime in between the 2 to feel comfortable doing both? The girls in our group want to do the 2 flags tour, then all the families want to go on the beach bash. Was there enough time to go to the ship to have some lunch in between?
Thanks,
Beth

I just got back from Eastern that sailed on 4/14 - There is enough time for lunch but I don't know if I would go back to ship as you have to take the water taxi - there are lots of small places to eat along the beach

Beth,
I can't remember exactly how much time we had in between our two excursions, but we had plenty of time to eat lunch on the ship before we had to meet for our beach excursion. The kids and I wanted beach time, and DH wanted educated:confused3 , so we were glad we could fit both in. Beware though, I saw lots of naked people!:rotfl: It was a good day though.

It sounds like you had a wonderful time..
The running joke with all of us is we are all going for "the scenery"..however I think the girls version of scenery and the guys version, are 2 different things...LOL :lmao: :rotfl:
Of course I can see my 10yr old pointing out "the scenery"...

Cheryl,
Thanks for the compliment on my TR. I enjoyed writing it, and I'm still enjoying getting responses from people. It sortof takes me back to the magic every time someone replies.
As for the beaches in St. Maarten--heck! That's what my DS is still talking about!:lmao: This was definitely a memorable vacation!:rotfl2:
Enjoy your cruise! We're cruising in Hawaii next March and won't get to be back with DCL until 08. I'm reading these boards and trying to stay connected to help me get through until 08.;)

Hey there, Disneypoor!!
I never got to tell you how much I enjoyed your account of the cruise, and that you wrapped it up nicely.
As I've said just a few times before, I just loved reading a report from someone who was on the same vacation as I was, and it sure as heck sounds like you and I did identical things.
Thanks for writing it all out!! :dance3:

When I get tired of looking for information, I like to read reports because you can find a lot of information in the reports themselves. ;) So, I found yours a couple pages back and was hooked. Didn't leave the computer until I was finished reading it - it was that good! :surfweb:
Yeap, we have a 7 day Eastern on the Magic coming up September 29th. Can't wait, I'm already hooked and DH is already warning me we will not be booking another cruise on the ship. That's what he thinks! :wizard: :lmao:
