What are some favorite restaurants you like to eat at the night before the race?

I was thinking about Mama Melrose? (I wonder if they would make the dishes a little more simpler if I asked?) I just saw my ADR booking window opens up in a little over a week! YIKES!

Any favs for after the race, too?

DH and I ate at Mama Melrose's the night before the marathon in January. We were able to get plain spaghetti and marinara sauce, even though it wasn't on the menu. The only "bad" part of the meal was leaving and not ordering tirimisu!!!

Boma is always a favorite for me. I love the soups and the breads. I don't really care for many of the desserts there so I don't worry about the temptation to over do it w/ sugar.

Did you call ahead? That sounds perfect. I would like just plain ole' noodles and marinara. I was trying to think of restaurants that would have that. I don't want to go to Tony's cause going into the MK is more time consuming and I want to be in bed early. I wonder about Spoodles?

As for the dessert that will be tough to pass! We're gonna be on the DDP, too. I wonder if they'll box it up for us? :rolleyes1

Spoodles has been the pre race night place for wind walker and I for the last 2 years. They do have a couple of pasta dishes, plus the food is really good!

Another option is the All Stars Cafe pasta dinner across from the Expo. The price was around $10. Sure, it's not as much fun as the restaurants mentioned but you can get in and out quickly and not have to use a park ticket. Of course, if you have the season pass it's not an issue.

Do you mean ESPN on the BW? Or is there one at WWOS? I thought it was an All Star Cafe or something like that? Does ESPN take ressies?

Nope. DH asked if we could get plain spaghetti and our server said sure. They also had a spicy marinara, but DH and I both went with regular sauce. I can't remember how much it was for us, but I remember thinking it was reasonable (for Disney LOL)--less than $10 I'm thinking.

I don't know if the other resorts were doing this but OKW had Friday and Saturday night menus for the racers. Sadly we didn't do it since we eat in that night but I thought that it was kewl that they did offer something special :) I might end up doing that in 2008 if DH comes down for the race. So if anyone did try the resorts special offerings I'd be happy to hear about it.

Something else I noticed this year was that they had those little paper schedules like they do for the parks but just for the Marathon Weekend.

Happy training!!!!!

Oh, and I think that is on the DDP, too! Do they take ADRs or you think it will be walk in even with the expo going on?

Actually, it's in a banquet room, set up buffet style. You access it from back of the cafe where all the outdoor tables are set up. You can see it as you walk out of the Expo. No reservations, walk-ins only. You won't have any problems getting in.

Also, because of this special setup, I'm not sure this will be part of the DDP. :confused3

I will be there for Race for the Taste, not the marathon. That probably makes a big difference... :confused3

Although, DH is probably gonna do the marathon in 2009. We'll be at WDW for NYE during school break so he'll just miss it this time.

If you are staying in a value or moderate resort another option would be your resort's food court. All of them (I believe) have pasta areas where you could get plain pasta with sauce for your pre-race meal.

Then you can eat what ever you want after your race as a celebration ;)

We went to Spoodles and really enjoyed it. I would not recommend what I had as a pre-race meal - lamb shank and sangria - as I had a few "issues" near the end of the race. This year we plan to eat a large lunch and a fairly light dinner. I will have a couple of eggs and wheat toast before leaving for the race as that is what I train with.
