Marine Corps in late October in DC? Registration opens at 12 noon eastern time Wednesday, May 9. I'm going to try to get into it, and if I do I guess I'm committed to it. My understanding is it's a well run and very enjoyable race.

Sorry you all won't be here in 2 weeks.

Craig--I'm going to try to get into MCM, too. Krista and I are planning to make a long weekend out of the trip. We've actually already started eyeing flights.

Colleen--how far are you from DC?

Putting the cart way ahead . . .

If I get a slot we'll fly to Reagan and stay somewhere in Alexandria. If I recall the metro will run me from Alexandria to someplace near the start at the Marine Corp Memorial. Okay, I've never ridden the DC metro, but it seems logical that this would work, doesn't it?

Cross the fingers for getting a slot.

Craig--Alexandria, VA right? It looks like you can take the Metro Blue Line right into Arlington. Krista and I have taken the Metro when we went to DC last summer and it was a great way to get around. I've never gotten off at the Arlington station, but I would assume it drops your off close to the marathon start since this is the suggested method of transportation on the MCM website. One tip--I would recommend buying a metro card online before you leave home. The only reason I suggest is because if you get to the metro station at 5:00am to go to Arlington and for some reason the automated card machines are broken (we saw a few broken at one of our stops), you might not be able to get a card from a "real person" that early in the morning.

Wow, the more I talk about this marathon, the more excited I get. Anyone else up for DC in October?? :thumbsup2

I'm staying a little closer to home for my marathon - The Quad Cities Marathon in Moline, Illinois, right across the river from where I live. It will also be my first (hopefully of many) marathon ever.

Hey, I thought we were going to do MCM in '08! I don't know what I'm doing after the Flying Pig. I think I can only do one marathon a year, and I really want that one marathon to be WDW in '08. But if I don't do Disney, I'm worried about getting shut out of all the fall marathons.

I'd like to plan for my first full marathon in October, but I haven't finalized which one yet. I've heard good things about the Columbus marathon. I'm going to do the Columbus Distance Classic in 3 weeks to get a taste of running through the streets of Columbus.

I've heard that the MCM is pretty hilly. Any other "classic" marathons going on in October?

We are considering the Half & Full Manchester, NH races this fall - November 4th.

Oh, Craig and Steve MCM is doable for me! In fact, I have May 9th marked on my calendar.

We have about a 6-7 hour drive to DC!

I know that some people were talking about MCM for 08, but heck I could do it both years.

We are thinking about this we should find a hotel and book some rooms. Craig, did you have one in mind?

If you'd like a little more time between a fall marathon and WDW, feel free to join me in Baltimore on Oct 13.
That date is 13 weeks prior to WDW, whereas MCM is 11 weeks prior.

Denny--Dh and I are seriously considering doing the Akron Marathon at the end of Sept. It's run on Sat. Sept 29th--and if you finish the full you get a coupon for a free pair of Brooks running shoes!! The course sounds a little challenging, but pretty--part of it is on the Towpath trail.

Stephanie, I believe that the Akron marathon is also called the Roadrunner Marathon. When you finish, you get a medal with the Roadrunner on it. It does look pretty good, but a runner friend of mine warned me that they call this marathon The "Little" Boston, because of its hills. For my first full marathon, I'm not looking for extra challenges thrown in.:rolleyes1 If you do decide to come up for the Roadrunner, I'm sure you'll have a great time.

I really hadn't thought about a hotel in Alexandria for the MCM weekend. Since it's so easy for us to fly to Reagan from Boston, and Alexandria is so pretty and historic, and you can get from there to the start at the Marine Memorial, and most importantly, since it would take about 2 seconds to talk Martha into coming with me for a weekend in Alexandria, that seems like a plan.

I'll probably do some surfing to look for nice hotels but I'll hold on booking until I hopefully get into the race. It does sound like a very nice weekend and a cool race. This sort of came up as a whim from Colleen's post, but why not????????????

:rotfl: Love that!

OK, this is a done deal for me! :woohoo:

It sounds like Steve, Krista are definitely interested and I am pretty sure Sara is in, so I will start a new post for MCM 2007!!

Let's see how many other WISHers we can recruit!

My application for MCM 07 is already in. I picked it up at the WDW expo and was told that it was a guaranteed entry. We'll see. I look forward to planning the trip.

Hello Chester, Steve, Colleen, and Krista

I'm sorry, but after getting up for this yesterday I need to back away from it tonight. Robert has posted about the 9 p.m. 13k at WDW on Saturday night, October 27, and that is one Martha and I cannot pass up. Halloween is our favorite holiday, it will be cooler, it will be at night so the atmosphere will feel like my track meets of high school or my soccer matches of college, and Martha and I would both run, instead of me run and she watch.

You're all welcome to give it to me when next we meet, but unless something odd happens, we'll be in Orlando that weekend.

Best to you all

Well, unlike Craig, we're still in for MCM weekend (sorry Craig, just had to give you a hard time :thumbsup2 ).

Krista and I are planning to stay with my sister and brother in law for the weekend (they live in Falls Church, VA), but we're definitely up for a WISH meet dinner and of course meeting up with everyone on race morning.

I think we're planning to fly in early Saturday morning and then fly back out on Monday afternoon. We figured we'd get a better chance to check out DC after the race than before.

By the way, Craig, you know it will end up being 107 degrees with 100 % humidity on Halloween weekend in Orlando, right? (sinced you just jinxed yourself with the talk of cooler weather) ;)

I'm in for MCM!!:woohoo: :cool1: :cheer2: I booked the hotel and broke it to DH on Friday so he is totally on board with my plan. I've already updated my sig line and I will register on 5/9. Visions of Marines will be dancing in my head...:confused3

We will be in DC from Fri-Mon and up for any WISH meets we can plan. I will have DH and the two DD's with me for the duration.

Craig - I hope you guys have a blast in WDW for the new race. The funny thing is I'll be flying from MCO on business to DC on 10/26 to run MCM. Mickey vs Marines was a no-brainer for me...

Hey Guys,

I'll be doing the MCM also.

I picked up the pre-register registration at the Disney expo in Jan also and saw the MCM charge on the last credit card bill.

Looking forward to seeing everyone then.

Wow, they didn't waste any time billing your credit card. I guess you are definitely in!

Regular registration doesn't even open for another month!

Oh, sure, I see how you very conveniently forgot to mention that Craig et al. has coerced you over to the dark . . . . er, I mean "Mickey" . . . side!! Yeah, I am thinking MCM will have to wait until 2008. He actually wants to train for and run that one. However, he will be in Orlando on 10/27 to do 8.1 with Mickey!!!! (oh, and ME!)

Thanks for the linkt to the Applefest Half Marathon. I was planning on an October half, probably the BAA half marathon since it's so close to our house.

I'll certainly keep the Applefest in mind.

Hi Howard,

Hope things are well with you and your studies.:)

Yes, we will scope out MCM for everyone this year. It is so convenient for me to drive it, hopefully I will be able to run it again in 08.

Colleen ~ Things are going well, I am just getting over mid-terms. The grades I've received on the tests have left a bit to be desired. I need to hit the books hard to do well this semester. Good luck with the MCM this year.

Hey, If anyone wants a small yet cool marathon early October, Do the Triple Lakes Trail Marathon With me. :3dglasses
http://www.triplelakesrace.com/index.html
I am also really thinking about Grandfather Mountain in July....There is only 1 hill!:goodvibes :lmao: :goodvibes Ignore the part on the Web page that says it is one of America's toughest marathons.;)
http://www.hopeformarrow.org/gmm40th.htm

Both of these are in NC and cost about the same or less than the ToT.:rotfl: :confused3 ;)
