FYI - If you rent in Windsor Palms beware the East Wind! :scared1:

I can't believe in all my extensive research, I never found any mention of the fact that there is a HUGE sewage treatment plant adjacent to the Windsor Plams property (in fact, depending on which house you are in, you can even get a nice view of the plant in addition to the smell). Of course, all during this week, the wind has been blowing from the east, so it's prety stinky outside. The house is nice and the club house is great, but the smell, not so much! :scared:

I'll post more info about the exact house in the other section of the board when we get back.

Yikes :scared: We are staying there in June and I was *SO* looking forward to it. I even just posted asking for info on Windsor Palms. Is it like this throughout the whole neighborhood? I don't want to cancel, but I don't want to smell sewage our whole vacation. :sad2:

I specifically warned someone last week who said they were staying there! This is why we chose WINDSOR HILLS!! No smell there! We were warned about this 2 years ago and if you go on Google earth you can even see the water treatment plants.

Honestly, I would consider cancelling and try to book in Windsor Hills. We just got back and it was totally fine!

I think that the smell is the worst at the back of the development (on Wyndham Palms Way) and yesterday it even smelled in the house It seems that the smell is the worst when the wind is from the east - and it's too bad that the wind has been from that direction ALL week

Um, Thanks for the info I guess. We are going the first of June and I'm about to send off the final payment. If I cancel I loose the deposit on a house that I really like. I'm just going to close my eyes and forget I ever read about the smell and hopefully not experience it while we are there. :wizard:

We stayed there in Feb of 06 and didn't smell a thing. Good luck to those of you who have reservations. I hope there is no smell for you too!

That is dreadful Lisa. Have you complained strenously to management and asked to be moved and or have your payment refunded. I would think that having to deal with noxious smells amounting to a nuisance would not be part of your vacation contract.

Tissa,

We will be there around the same time. I think i'll try your tactic and try to forget about it, lol. :goodvibes

We've stayed in condos and townhomes at Windsor Palms about 6 times over the last few years, and have never noticed a bad smell. If it's close to Wyndham Palms Way, I guess that's the individual villas and we may have been at the opposite end of the resort. I don't deny that the plant is there, and that you might notice a smell at times, but I'll try to reassure others that I don't think it's usually noticeable. :goodvibes

We're also staying in townhomes there for our next 2 planned visits. It's a great price at a wonderful price! (Although I did notice the stucco & siding on some of the homes needed cleaning and looked a bit bad with what I assume is mold/mildew.)

I was also surprised that I hadn't read about the entrance being moved due to the new road that's nearby. Since we'd been there so many times before, and we could see the "old" gatehouse and we knew that the "old" entrance was straight out from that, we drove right past the new entrance and had to turn around and come back. The entrance is now right past Indian Creek neighborhood. There's an overpass that goes over the new road and takes you to a "new" gatehouse.

Well, I might have tried to do something, but we rented from VRBO (a private owner). Really, the house was nice and on the largest lot, but the smell on Friday was the worst:scared1: . I really didn't smell it until we got about 6 houses from the end of Wyndham Palms Way, which is at the very back of the development, so those of you in the condos and townhomes should be fine.

I just returned from touring this area, I didn't stay there, I rented a house in Davenport, and if I'm thinking correctly that the end near the John Young Parkway was looking very run down- like old couches and stuff thrown in the dumpsters out front or on the lawns and the edges of the lawns definetly needed to be weed wacked, also there does not look to be a very favorable neighbourhood on the John YOung Parkway end, we drove through a 10 PM after eating at the Loop's Romano's Macaroni Grill and there was a young man running down the street shooting a gun into the air and the police were just driving beside him doing nothing! The houses are very run down in the residential neighborhood nearby and seedy looking too....IMHO I'd look elsewhere but prehaps the ammenities at Windsor are nice enough to forget the 'outside' reality!

Are you serious?

Can you really expect the police to stop EVERY "young man running down the street shooting a gun into the air " The police can't be expected to do everything all the time. Sometime's the citizen's need to police their own:rotfl2:

I think you are mistaken about the Windsor Palms area. It is located in a very nice area called the Formosa Gardens area and no where near John Young Parkway.

No idea, but the area you're referring to is no where near Windsor Palms, it's 15-20 minutes away. Like every other major city, the Orlando area certainly has it's fair share of bad areas, but not by Windsor Palms! Windsor Palms, Windsor Hills, Emerald Island, Formosa Gardens, are all in a very nice (and safe) area, which is nowhere near the Loop or John Young Parkway...I can't speak to what development you saw, but I can tell you for 100% sure it wasn't Windsor Palms, especially not in the condition you describe.

You're not offending people, but you're certainly doing a good job of scaring people who have booked trips there!

I am obviously referring to a resort which is not Windsor Palms that you are referring to so I have deleted my posts in regards the resort I seen, anyone who quoted my responses could you please delete the quotes? Sorry about any confusion, I guess that is what happens when they let foreigners like me into the area!

We have stayed at Windsor Palms 2 years ago and I didn't even know that there was a treatment center next to it. We never smelled anything and we came back to the house every day and swam, so it wasn't a time of day smell. We have booked another house for this June and I feel great in staying there.

I have recently been informed of these postings. Please let me clarify about this issue. The water treatment plant has been located next door, but as in most expanded US markets, this plant had to be enlarged. They are still working out the kinks and at times there is a smell. The operations manager for TOHO is aware of this and assures us that his Engineers are working on rectifying the little annoyance it is causing. We have also been in contact with the Environmental Supervisor of the Wastewater Compliance/Enforcement for the State of Florida. They are completely aware of the situation and are working to fix the slight problem.

Let me reassure our visitors that it is in only a small part of our community and it is not a constant feature. I myself live here and drive the community everyday and have not smelled any odor all week long.

We have many return guests to the community and encourage anyone that has any hesitations to contact me at the association office at 407-390-1991.

Thanks for your time in this matter.

the little annoyance

Community Association Manager

Jerry,

Well, it was more than a "little annoyance" to me. :confused3

I'm thinkng that I made it pretty clear that the smell was only in the "back" area and only when the wind was from the east, but to downplay the fact that, at one point, the outside and the INSIDE of the house the we spent a ton of money to rent smelled like sewage is a little "off."

Also, had I known about the existance of such a plant, I would have never stayed in Windsor Palms.

For what it's worth.

Seriously, thank you for providing your perspective, Mr. Mikler. I hope any "lingering" issues are resolved soon.

I for one, appreciate the sharing of information like this here. I have stayed in WP (condos & townhomes and never noticed a smell) and will continue to do so in the future, but I'd likely feel differently if I'd had your experience with the smell in the villa. I would like to know of the possibility of the smell from the treatment plant, and particularly where it's located and which villas it's likely to affect.

On another post, I shared information about EI resort townhomes and how I didn't like having to take my trash to a dumster and stated that "I" would not be staying there in townhomes again. I would have liked to have that information prior to my stay, so I shared it here in the hopes that it might help someone else in their decision. Also in the hopes that someone from EI might see that it's an issue and take corrective action (like benches for trash like at WP & WH).

I see your sharing info about the water treatment plant near WP as the same situation. :goodvibes

And I'm also glad to see that someone from WP posted so that they show they're aware of the situation, and that something might be done to make it better. :goodvibes
