I just received confirmation from EMMI that there will be a new 13K race on Sat Oct 27 at 9 PM. Yes, that is 9 o'clock at night  They won't give any more details but rumor is it will start at MGM.

Also, EMMI wouldn't confirm the other rumor that the Minnie in 08 will be a 1/2 marathon. He stated nothing is finalized.

Wow - interesting!! I would so love to do a 9 pm race on Oct 29 at WDW. :scratchin:

As for Minnie 2008 - I read on another thread it was scheduled for May 2 - 4. I'm wondering if that will still be the plan. Trying to get as much as I can from an AP that I'll start at this year's Minnie!

I think the night run sounds like fun. The best part of the marathon for me is starting in the dark and seeing the lights in Epcot. It would be fun running a race totally in the dark.

DD12 is begging to do this event! After all, Tower of Terror is her favorite ride and a nighttime race sounds like so much fun and her birthday is a few days after the race date and her and DS's APs don't expire until November...the list goes on. Hopefully they'll have info at the Minnie expo if not posted online before.

As Mom & I were doing the Half from H#ll today, I told her about this one. How it was on my birthday, Halloween / ToT theme, etc. She just said that she'd have a free plane ticket since she's flying so much on Southwest lately - I think that means YES!

Of course, I would let Chad come too. :rotfl:

And, Zack is old enough for the kids clubs at WDW now. So we could sign him up that night and not have to scramble to find someone to babysit him during the usual obscenely early Disney morning races!

And we have APs.

And we can go to MNSSHP again! I think the party we went to in '05 was the most fun we've ever had at Disney World!

Hmm...me thinks this is coming together rather nicely...

Robert

Thanks a bunch for posting this information. Martha and I talked about this over dinner, and we are so in for a 13K at night. I've already got an idea for a costume.

Halloween is our favorite holiday, and that night is the 30th anniversary of the night we met. I cannot think of a better way to spend that evening with my bride.

When you say EMMI told you to keep checking the web site, I assume you are talking about the WDW sports, through to endurance events, site which we use for the marathon. Is this correct?

What a great idea and what a great time of year.

Okay we are in for the October 27 run. We just booked 3 nights at the Swan over that weekend using the teacher's discount. We'll arrive Thursday the 25th and leave Sunday the 28th.

So effectively we've committed for a race which hasn't been announced yet. Who says we can't be spontaneous?

You have booked a hotel!? Oh, now I'm jealous. I had rationalized maybe throwing in the RFTT in October (you know, as part of a conscientious Goofy plan- after all, I'll really need to know how much progress I've made) but now maybe I want to do the unknown Tower of Terror race. (side note: What do you think- is it going to be a Halloween theme or are they going to give Pluto a race?)

I usually go with my "I'm saving a ton of money because we're driving" attitude, but I don't think I can present that to DH with a straight face for two trips in October. So I guess I have to decide. Love the Food and Wine Festival and it would make DH happy, but a night run sounds soooo cool. I suppose it's going to come down to the bling...:rolleyes1

I know, I know....but it's an inaugural nightime event! How cool will that be??? Plus, if I fly in Oct then my flight in January would be free!

It is scary how easy a relatively sane person can rationalize 4 trips to WDW in a one year timeperiod. Even with an AP though the room gets expensive and I'd hate to fly all that way for just a couple of nights....especially because of that AP....see how easy it is to talk myself into it?? AND, I am not spending any money to travel to the CDC in August 'cause it is practically in my own backyard, so I am saving a lot right there....

yes, it gets easier and easier. Give me a couple of days and I will probably be able to justify the RFTT too:lmao: :lmao:

Me either. We did quite a few trips in a row awhile back:
Jan '05
Oct '05
Dec '05
Jan '06

Those were all week-long+ trips except for October. That was a last minute 5 day trip. And all from NH! We are nuts... :rotfl2: And honestly by Jan '06 even we were Disneyed-out. Really. Weird, huh?

Chad says we are to sign up for this race as soon as they post it.
I hope & pray he gets a job so we can really go!

Now, to try to come up with something original for a costume that can be worn walking/running...I told Chad I could be a birthday cake. But I have no idea how to do that, and I doubt it's a run-able costume!

All right, you guys are a bad influence. A VERY, VERY bad influence. Krista and I are actually considering doing this race. Two big problems, though.

1. It's the same weekend as MCM, which I really want to run this year (and I just gave Craig a hard time for backing out. :) ). I could always do the Columbus marathon two weeks earlier, though. Hmmmm.....

2. Another trip to WDW this year?? We told ourselves we'd stop doing this "3 or 4 trips a year" thing awhile ago, and we haven't managed to stop doing it yet. :confused3

Don't listen to him, no one was a bad influence, we just don't need much of an excuse to go WDW!

I was running today, minding my own business when a song from The Nightmare Before Christmas came on and I thought "how COOL would it be to run in the parks to 'scary' music?" By the way, Stephen's on mousesavers looking for historical AP rates in October. :rotfl2:

Someone mentioned sleeping on the beach, does anyone have a suggestion of an area they don't look for sneaky runners? LOL HEY! Wait! How many tents do they set up for the Minnie 15K? Would they do the same for a 13K? There you go, tents were made for sleeping in LOL

Oh Krista, we have gone to WDW the last week of Oct/first week of Nov. so many times and it is a lovely time to go (as long as it is before Jersey Week). So if you want to persuade her NOT to go, you may have to fib a bit. Mid November for Thanksgiving is a good time also!!!!

My daughters b-day is the 29th and I know she would LOVE LOVE LOVE to go. But I am afraid I may not have enough funds to go that many times. We are currently planning an end of summer trip before school starts for the kids.

Maybe once the final info is up I can make my decision. MAYBE I CAN GO SOLO!!!

Okay, I am officially a not nice person. I went ahead and took Monday Oct 29 and Tuesday Oct 30 off. If we go, I'm planning on taking Wednesday off as well, but if I do that then I will have to mess with the 3 days I have off at Christmas and I don't want to mess with those until I absolutely have to ie. when more info on the race is released. If we end up not going to WDW in October, Stephen is definitely running Marine Corps which is the same weekend, so I need at least Monday off regardless. She is going to be so mad when she realizes I am off already that week (I turned my time off slip in to my boss and I wrote it on the calendar we have up in the dept). But you know what, I don't care. I don't care for 3 reasons: 1. I'll be really surprised if she does go to WDW at all much less that particular week in October.
2. There are 2 other people in my dept and they are both screwing me all the time, I can't tell you how many times I've been the only one at work because one is off and the other calls in that morning or leaves super early. I'm just getting my pay backs in! 3. It's Disney! C'mon, we lose all common sense and decency when it comes to Walt Disney World!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Hmmm... get DH to go with us for RFTT because, you know, he likes the beer. Then try to pull some sort of "birthday present for my mom" trick for the night race so "we" aren't going twice in one month. After all, I need a birthday present for my mom regardless and it won't be that expensive (especially if I start hoarding secret cash now). I've taken my mom twice in the past so it's not unheard of... Plot thickens.

I bet everyone is thinking "sounds reasonable to me." We're just a pack of neon-wearing enablers! ;)

I have added the ToT race to the family email that I send out daily to DH, my 4 kids, and the extended family. We countdown to birthdays, weddings, graduations, etc, any important event. We are baaaaad!!! We have the hotel room booked. I LOVE the idea of the tiara with the number on it. Think I can get a 30 on mine? There's gotta be someplace that will sell me one.

This is gonna be the best run! My trainer is going to run it. A co-worker is going to run it. It's gonna be great!! Can you tell I'm really psyched about this one!?!

Oooohhh, must find the dates asap...

Here's us at MNSSHP on 10/27/05:
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n278/Kristi1357/MNSSHP_2005.jpg

I make a great wench, if I must say so myself! :lmao:
And since this will be a budget trip, we will probably be wearing the same costumes (they cost a small fortune). Which stinks since pirates are even more the hot, in thing now than they were then. I hate being something too popular. Hmmm...maybe I can finally get Mom to make me the redheaded lady's dress.
You know... "we want the redhead!" :rotfl:

After some searching here and elsewhere...I found that "Last year Disney released the dates/price info (for MNSSHP) on April 17 and tickets went on sale the end of April." So, we should have some info soon then! I thought I remembered parties being Friday & Sunday nights. If so, I am leaning towards Sunday night.

I say to you, ha, ha , ha.

That of course is my Stanley Kowalski imitation, aimed directly at Steve from Cincinnati, the Steelers man, who shares his house with Hines Ward. YOU heckle me about bagging the Marine Corp Marathon and then consider doing this one (even if Krista says you are staying with MCM). Again, I say to you, ha, ha ha.

Lately I'm in an all black running mood, going for the Kiwi look. Yes, in my fantasy I have become an elite world class runner from New Zealand from the early 1980's. Wouldn't a set of Chernabog style wings go well with all black for the Halloween weekend run? The answer is of course YES. I can't remember, does the Villians store in the Studios sell wings? If not I'll have to look elsewhere.

I expect to see Krista there on Saturday night, and maybe Steve too.

This is a totally irresponsible and fun thing to do. I think from now on I'll apsire to be irresponsible, it sounds way more fun.

I saw the AP discount both on the resorts thread for Swan & Dolphin discounts as well as mousesavers.com (can I mention that site?) I called their reservation number and asked. Fortunately those Oct dates were open. The kids think we're at Pop for the as-yet-unnamed 13K weekend. They may be disappointed with a "non-Disney" resort, but it's location, location, location...

And speaking of illuminate! if the race starts at 9 pm in MGM could it possibly be within a good view of Illuminations starting off? oh to be running thru Disney at night with Illuminations firing off, I'm getting shivers! LOL

Yeah, I hear ya! That "other Steve" must feel like a pretty big dork right about now. Oh wait, ummmm....... :rolleyes1

Ok, so I might have caved in. It just sounds like such a great race. And I know I could run the Columbus marathon two weeks before, so I'd still get my fall marathon in.

I do feel bad for ditching Colleen and Sara at MCM, though. They'll probably hate us all (and I'm including you in that, Craig :) ). I'm still waiting to see what this "unannounced race" from Disney really involves. If it's anything like what we're all guessing it will be, then yeah, you may see Krista and I at the starting line. Still gotta work on those costume ideas....

Hotel booked for Friday and Saturday! Pop Century @ $84.15 per night. Now just need the details although it doesn't really matter - I'm going either way.

This is shaping up to be a nice October. RFTT to start off the month and the special "night time" race to finish the month. This should fall into my marathon training quite nicely too. I'll use this as one of my long runs. Wish they could all be this nice.

We will probably go to the Halloween thing too since we'll be there. Although it will be on a Friday night and probably packed! But, there is always the possibility of doing the Halloween Horror night at Universal... hmmmm

I'm planning on SWA flight leaving around 1:30pm (time shifts with season; can you tell I fly this route a bit too often) that'll get us to MCO about 4:00pm. MNSSHP should begin at 7...plenty of time. We did MNSSHP 10/31/2000. The Headless Horseman leading the parade is not to be missed. OK - I think I totally sold my mom on this race. She is quickly becoming my new racing partner. Starting at the ToT...nighttime race...glow in the dark shirts...inaugural medal... those were the key words! Plus it is a good training run for January right? I may wind up taking the week off between the Nike half and ToT to spend more time at WDW. That now means I won't be going anywhere or taking any time off over Thanksgiving though (our Thanksgiving is in October, so I don't see how I can manage three weekends away in one month).

Most likely I am in!! Kiena, if my mom comes though I'll be out for the room split with you though - sorry!

Okay, reading the information in the WDW Sports web site, I see the course like this:

Start on Sunset Boulevard under the Tower of Terror.
Up Sunset
Right to the Sorcerer's Hat
Left along the alley with the Commissary on the right
Right onto New York Street
Through the stunt show
Left and wind along the back roads
Into the parking lot area then turn right
Follow the access road under the little overpass we go over at mile 22 in the marathon
Along World drive under the overpass we go over at mile 20 of the marathon
Sharp left for 1 mile or so
Right to the World of Sports Complex for whatever distance is necessary
Hit the turn around point and the do it in reverse

Well at least that's my theory. This uses a fair amount of the Race for the Taste 10K course, just tacking on the Sunset Boulevard stretch of the Studios and whatever they need in the World of Sports complex to get 4.04 miles out.

This is going to be good. Martha and I are all over this. By staying at the Swan we can just walk over for the start and back after the party.

Glow in the dark shirts sounds great, but I'm really, really, really obsessive about what I wear for races. I'm not sure I'll be able to part with my much beloved top or singlet.

And I really needed this today. We had a faculty meeting this afternoon which made me want to quit my position and work at a different College or University. The topper was when the most arrogant person I've ever seen (we'd not met but his reputation preceeded him) complimented people in my position at the college saying, "we even act as if they are worthy of being our colleagues." Worthy? At that point I jumped up and said "I take extreme offense at that statement." He proceeded to yell at me that everything he, the lord of knowledge, said was true, then asked the people around him who the hell I was to question his highness. Well, if he spent any time on our campus instead of doing executive ed he would know I teach more course equivalents, more students, and get higher teaching ratings than anyone else at the College. I guess when you're true royalty you don't have to know anything about anything. The only saving grace was a handful of people after the meeting thanked me for standing up to this idiot. Now in our next division meeting I'll get teased for being a rabble rouser.

When I got home and gave Martha the blow-by-blow description of this, she told me the good news was the information about the TOT 13K was up. Thank heavens for this good news.

5 hours later and I'm still steaming. Best to all

Craig - I can relate to your experience at work/school. Gotta love those types! And it is very difficult to let those things go sometimes (most times for me!)

You are always poignant and inspirational in your posts. It's easy to see why you are would receive high teacher ratings.

On a lighter note-Yay! Tot 13K looks way cool. We're at the Swan too for the convenience. The kids prefer the walk and think of how fun the walk back'll be at 1am.

Craig - good for you to say something to that bonehead! I hope you have a better day today.

Chad told me to sign us up. We will eBay and yard sale like crazy to make this happen. I told Chad he has to get on the ball getting some job, any job, so this can happen. We will probably drive down, but that's ok since we like driving if we have the time. I am going to see if I can get an offsite time share through my in-laws. Some of them are so close, it really isn't that bad. I'll miss the magic of a Disney resort, but if this is the only way we can afford to go - I'll take it!

We're in! :woohoo:

So, do you think the medal will be a ToT? And I would think the 13k medal will be much cooler than the 6k. What do you think?

Here's a small preview of the MNSSHP parade I shot last year.

MNSSHP Parade (http://members.cox.net/memo410/MNSSHP_0001.wmv)

Vic, love your video! I was thinking as I watched it, "My pics always seem to have the tops of other folks heads in them. How does he do that?" I forgot you were "Big" Vic! :rotfl:

Big Vic- Loved the video. Main Street looked so empty is it really that 'dead' for Halloween? I'm used to parades being piled up 5 rows deep.

Craig- Sorry you've got to work with such a doofus. Hope you have been able to let it go. Gotta wonder how people like that manage to get ahead with their complete lack of social skills.

Can't run today because I've got a sore throat and what feels like mumps in my neck. Feeling a bit feverish too. This always seems to happen when I'm going to visit extended family which I'm doing for the holiday. I need to dig deeper to see if I'm repressing some sort of horrible memory and these illnesses are just psychosomatic.

The only thing I've ever come up with is that my parents never took me to WDW as a child. I have resented them ever since my best friend in grade school got to go and she 'shared' her travel stories with me. I saw her pictures w/ Mickey and wanted to cry because I wanted to be there.

Duane -- Is that an AP rate? I am not finding anything that low. :sad1:

That is an AAA rate. Had to ask for it. It was $99 a night without it.

Thanks, Duane! Got it. Hoping rates may come down later.

disnutt-- what a funny post! I never went until my senior class trip. Then, I never went again until at least 10 years later, at which time I converted DH into a Disney nut like myself.

Cam- I had an very early and very unfortunate first marriage. The only thing good I can say about it is that we went to Disney World. I know WDW is magical because we were able to overlook each other's flaws for most of the trip!:rotfl:

After counseling, divorce and a very late and very happy second marriage I'm even happier going to WDW!

Just to show what a big person I am I've even taken my mother to WDW. My father just won't travel. See, I'm not holding any grudges!:upsidedow

I wonder if there is a limit to the number of people who can register for this race. Robert, have you heard anything about that? :confused3

Whew! Am I glad I already took my days off. The girl I work with who was thinking about going to WDW the last week in October, but I told her it was hot, etc. Well, today she starts asking me what we airline we fly and if we like them. I told her Airtran and I asked why. Well, she's on Disney's website and is booking her trip for the week of Oct. 29!!! I told her I was already off that week and she made a face at me. I am so glad I put my time off slip in yesterday. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Craig--I am so sorry you had to deal with that jerk yesterday.

That sounds about right.... but I don't seem to remember that overpass being quite so "little".....

Oh I hear ya! It seems that you find one of those in every faculty department of every University across the country. (But hey, at least your school is incredibly prestegious-- I just don't get it when I see folks with that attitude around our little school....) And invariably it is those people with so little access to student populations (more often than not by their own choice) who think they know what is "best" for them.

Hope today is a better day!

I was lucky in that my folks took us to WDW the first year it opened. The Magic Kingdom was the only park open. I didn't get back there until after Craig and I were together and Craig had never been before! It was the year before we were married and he was like a little kid in that he just couldn't sleep that night.

We were on the first boat over to MK and closed down the park that night. This was in 1979 so not much else was open. We've been almost once a year since then. We even bought Disney stuff before there was a catalog! Somehow Craig got a list of Disney merchandise and we called and ordered it over the phone!! Yup, we're that old...

I'll never forget taking Lesley to Disneyland for the very first time. We are just a Disney family! Aaaahhhh, what a happy thought! I feel better now.

Anywho:
Vic: thanks for the video! Loved seeing Tigger in a skeleton costume!

Oh, and Rhonda is coming too!!! :cheer2:

Craig -- I cannot believe someone had the nerve to speak that way in a room full of professionals. Kudos to you for standing up to that obnoxious egomaniac! Then again, I'd expect no less from you. ;)

Krista -- Whew! That was a close call! I am soooo glad that you aren't a procrastinator like me!

Kiena and Kristi -- I am so glad you are both past those earlier, unhappy experiences and that both of you are in relationships where your love for all things Disney can be nurtured and indulged. ;)

Thank You Kevin

You have that spot on, the guy teaches only in executive education and never blesses the main campus with his presence. Without a doubt our most prestigious program is our undergrad program, and he has never done 1 day of work in it. He also writes in a field that is, shall I say, much less prestigious than my own field, so where his arrogance comes from is a mystery.

I'm sorry, but I have forgotten, which "little school" are you a community member of? The blessing of my job is at 8:15 I had 40 smart and fun 19 year olds in front of me. It's hard to be crabby when that kind of energy and excitement is in the room.

Well, the overpass is sort of little, especially compared to that monstor in mile 23 where you go up, then turn right and then down to the Studios entrance. The little overpass is just enought to get over the road from World Drive into the back of the Studios parking lot. That road seems to dip a bit, so the overpass doesn't seem so high to me. Or maybe I'm being delusional.

Vic--Thank you so much for offering to pick up our race packets. I'll e-mail Disney to make sure it's possible for someone else to pick up the packets, but I know it can be done for the marathon, so I assume it's not a big deal for a 13K. I'll PM you once we get closer to the event. Thanks for parade clip too, I love MNSSHP and I love that parade!

Glad to do it, and glad you liked the video. :)
Reference you and your coworker - You're bad. Good job! :thumbsup2

Craig – Hoping you’re having a better day today.

Wendy/Judy/Martha – Glad you liked the video.

disnutt – It was the second parade. A good portion of the crowds had thinned out by then.

Susan received the confirmation today, we're booked in at OKW.

Now for airlines tickets and registration :cool1:

I keep having this moments where I just want to scream! I'm THAT excited! What a party it will be that night!!! Susan has declared she is dressing up in her costume of a WISH Racing shirt. She's going to pretend she's a runner :rotfl: I'd thought about tearing Minnie's skirt off of a costume I have but how bizarre would that look? Safety yellow shirt and a red skirt with white poka dots LMBO

This is a race where those WISH bibs would come in handy. We could attach them at the leg. They'd need to be glow in the dark for this race though LOL

Flying Pig racers.... Disney is listed as a Vendor for the Expo!!! I can't wait to drool over the medals they bring.

Hey everyone,

I'm so excited for all of you who are headed to Disney in Oct...wish I could join you but I won't be able to make it.

I've had a frustrating couple of days. I was doing so well with my training plan but caught a bug and have been sick for the last 2 days. I missed 2 training runs and it stinks. I want to go out and run so badly but I know if I do I'll probably just prolong the illness. My plan is to just take it easy and hopefully get better for my Sun LR. What do you all do when you're sick? Do you run through it or rest and then just continue on with the plan wherever you pickup? It's been beautiful running weather too which is even more torture. Hopefully this will all pass in the next day or so and I can get back on track.

Very Cool!!!! :thumbsup2 John & I will be there! :woohoo: Our 25th Anniversary  is the end of October. We’ve had plans for years to spend it at WDW (spent part of our honeymoon at WDW). Since getting into walking/running, we wanted to do a race so we were going to celebrate our anniversary a little early so we could do the RFTT. Now we will fly down for the weekend to do RFTT and then drive back down at the end of the month for the Tower of Terror 13k and then stay that week for our anniversary. I’m very excited! :yay: :dance3:

Lexxiefern & Kristi – Very Cool that the race is on your birthdays!

Mel – When is your anniversary? Ours is on the 30th. I had the same thought as you…running with the bride & groom mickey ears.

Krista & Steve – Very Cool that you will be running it for your anniversary too!

Glad to see so many WISHer’s are going to be there!!!!:woohoo:

I have a thought as to when registration will begin…..next Friday, April 13th….As in FRIDAY THE 13TH. Just seems to fit the theme.

October seems to be a very popular month for anniversaries. Ours is on the 3rd and that is why we are taking this trip (see ticker) we are celebrating 10 years!

Congratulations Karen on 25 years!!!!! That is so wonderful!

We got BWV, std for the weekend...great idea, Christy! And Grandma says she'll come up and hangout with the girls, although this is way too far ahead for her to really plan.
