I have been in and out of WW and WISH so many times. and guess what??? I am finally feeling confident in myself that I can do this. I joined WW 4 weeks ago and I have been doing things my way to make it work. The first week I paid attention to what I ate, but not much more. The second week I set a goal to not eat chips until Sunday night (HUGE challenge), and I did it! Adding on...the third week I set the goal to work out everyday for 1/2 an hour, and I did it! This week adding on to my goals I am journaling my points and staying within my points range... AND eating at McDonalds for 1 meal only this week. The first few weeks I prepared myself, set some small goals and knowing that I can accomplish those gave me the encouragement and belief in myself that I can do it. I feel so proud of myself and excited.
A big thing that has helped too is I picked up the book, Beck Diet Solution. It is NOT your averarge diet book. It doesn't give you a plan to follow. It is all about helping overcome sabotaging thoughts. I lOVE this book.

This morning I listened to the podcast here on the DIS for 5/29. I heard Pete Werner, our gracious host of the DIS, mention he was a lurker here on the WISH board and he too would like to lose weight. So here I am to check it out.
After doing a search, I would also like to second the recommendation that Princess VIJA made about the Beck DIET solution book. I am on Day 18 of the book and I really think it is helpful. While I am of normal weight by BMI, weight charts, etc. I know I weigh too much for me. I have osteoarthritis in my knees and am becoming less active, maybe because of it. Every ounce in my purse now seems to make me a difference. So, I really want to carry around less of me too.
The Beck book is not a diet book per se, it is "cognitive therapy" - it is about thinking differently about eating and weight loss. It is to be used with whatever healthy weight loss plan you choose. I found the reviews of this book on Amazon helpful and maybe you will too. I'm glad I ordered it.

I picked up the Beck Diet Solution at Sams recently for $14.88.
Vija, great work!! I know you can do it too. Turning your small changes into lifetime habits will ensure your success. Just a little at a time can make a big difference.
Keep it up, and come here when you get discouraged. We all want you to succeed.

Hi Vija,
You sound like you are doing terrific. Taking it slowly and one step at a time is the best way to not set your self up for failure.
I have the Beck-Diet book too. I need to sit down and read it cover to cover. I've read some of it. The author is Judith S. Beck.
DisneyMeMa - Welcome to WISH! That is cool that Pete mentioned WISH on his podcast! That would be nice if he joined us!! If your reading this while lurking - Join us!!

I may have to see if I can get the book to read too.

DH is out of town - so I have a bit more "free" time for WISHing and I am happy to say "thanks for the scoop" that the WISH board has at least one "elite" lurker
Princess Vija - hooray for you - keep those positive thoughts "in" your mind and let them take over - I am convinced that is the first step - claiming that YOU can do it! And, YOU can, yes, that goes for ANYONE!
Just recently I took a class (dubbed a self-esteem class BUT it was soooooooooooo much more than that) anyway the presenter (Marilyn Grosbaugh - on video - taped several years ago judging by her attire :lmao:) had been over 200+ lbs and living in a relationship that she said was not healthy but she stayed anyway, and finally, she "got it" and once she figured out that she was sabotaging herself, she moved on with her life - lost the weight, gained her self confidence - retrained for her new career (shares her insight with all age groups and “walks” of life) and "wahla" I do believe that her method of "looking at everyday life" has helped many folks, and yes – me, too – to look as some things differently.
I am off to check out the Beck book – can’t hurt to have another positive view to “check out” - circumstances in life "ain't" always the best but I believe if I am already looking for the positive - then it is a bit easier to keep looking at the positive AND
I have been feeling like I have found my "mojo" again and I was thrilled today when I had a routine Dr visit I am 5 lbs down from last dr visit - that got a big "ol" check mark in the WIN column today :yay:
CONGRATS VIJA on getting yourself into the YOU CAN DO IT 'TUDE !!!

The DIS, IMO is a good example of doing something right. "Back in the day" when there was only one board, Pete was frequently a responder. His posts were so considerate, thorough and provided tons of good information. I was delighted to hear Pete say in the podcast he had been lurking here. I'm certain weight loss would be something else he would do right. With all the WISHers support how could he not?
Thank you MelanieC for the warm welcome. I'm enjoying reading the encouragement that all of you extend to each other.
Congratulations AllreadyexcitedGrammy on your 5 pound reduction. My grandmother, a stout little German lady, would frequently ask me if I could tell she had dropped off a bit or reduced, LOL. I am thankful I didn't inherit my DGMs medical problems or her varicose veins. At this time in my life, and maybe yours too, it really is about good health with just a little mix of vanity.

Congratulations to you Princess Vija for your winning attitude and inspiration. You definitely can do it and you will!!:thumbsup2
That book sounds like something that might help me right now. I'm also in and out of ww, but in it now for the last time, but lately seem to be sabotaging myself. I need to spend a little more time here on wish and find my "I can do it" attitude again.
