Help!

My kitchen and bathroom floor both have the same large tiles on the floor. However, the grout looks gross!! I have tried scrubbing them, no luck. Any ideas? I am wondering if maybe the people before us who put them in didn't seal the grout and that is part of the problem.

Second question- my kitchen cabinets are from 1979 according to the sticker inside one of them! They were quality cabinets, so they actually don't look that bad, but the shiny finish is long gone so dust sticks to them and the cabinets around the stove are 'gummy' from years of grease- yuck! I've tried cleaning them, but it won't come off. Any idea of what would get that residue off? Also, is there anything I can put on them to "polish" them up so it wouldn't stick so bad? We have a LOT of cabinets, and there is no way we can afford to replace them for a few years. We priced them out and it would be about $15,000 for us to do the work!

Thanks! :)

hey, had the same prob. try comet and a stiff brush w/ a bit of water, let sit maybe 30 min.then wipe it up real good.rinse/mop and wipe more until you get up comet. you should probably open the window and wear gloves. also keep kids and pets out, etc.. i accidentally let my persian cat in and had to clean her up...so the floor and the cat got "bathed" that day!!! they also sell tile pens on tv and those as seen on tv outlets, that repaint the grout, but i couldn't find a match for my tile.hope this helps...don,t know about cabinets, sorry:banana:

Not sure about the residue--I'd hate to recommend something that could cause damage, but as far as giving them that polished look, try a product called Liquid Gold. It can usually be found with the reg. dusting products.

Grout - Most likely it is not sealed. Home Depot has some great grout cleaner. You can either go to the cleaner section or the tile section and they will help you. It is great, but stinks to kneel down for hours to get it done. I have about 400 square feet of tile in my house. I have only done about 1/3 of it so far. Once you clean it then seal it. They can also recommend something there.

For the cabinets try Orange Glow. It gets off layers of grime. My sister used it on hers and it worked wonderfully.

Hope this works and good luck.

For the grout try Clorox. Put some in a tub of hot water, get a brush and scrub. For the cabinets you need to get the grease off before you can polish them. I would get a scrubby sponge and try amonia or vinegar with hot water. After you get the grime off try using Orange Oil. It cleans nice and restores the shine. Good Luck!

The grout issue was brought up about 4 weeks ago and we were told to use peroxide to clean it and it does work really well. Just put it on let it sit for a while then a little scrubbing and whala back to new. At least mine was.

Hi,there. Regarding the grout issue: The recommended tile/grout cleaner for residue on tile and dirty grout (which happens over time - despite many of the claims of the companies that make "sealants") is sulfamic cleaning crystals.
It is very strong so you need to follow the instructions, rinsing after you clean with them. (Tile installers recommend using a rinse of baking soda and water and then rinsing again with plain water). The crystals are NOT something you would use for routine cleaning needs. It definitely works!
The peroxide does work- it lightens the grout color. It depends on how much tile and grout you have to clean.

Good luck!:)
