Our family of 5 will be there. We are staying at the Portofino for the 3rd time for 2/9 thru 2/20. Have learned so much from these boards the past couple of years. It would be a pleasure to meet everyone. I've got the sea to shining sea rate of $169.00 PB. It beat my AAA rate at the Hard Rock (was going to try something different.) I have kids ages 10, 9 and 6. Anyone else coming with kids?
Patti, Bob, Bobby, Steven, and Katherine
PS How is security in the parks. My 6 year old Katherine has Juvenile Diabetes. I am nervous about flying and the parks since I will be carrying needles and such. I am pretty much a walking duffel bag with extra food. The parks have always been great but I understand the need for security. Am I going to stopped a lot. I always carry a doctors note so I will probably check in at Guest Relations anyway. I don't want her to keep getting embarrassed. The only way we won't be able to go is if Continental will not let me carry on my supplies. I know originally they wanted all diabetic supplies checked. But that is a danger to her health and I won't fly without my meter and syringes (and epipen for her peanut allergy). I am still waiting to hear back from Continental. I have been emailing them since October and nothing is resolved. Well I am leaving this trip up to the higher powers. If we are meant to go so be it. If not then there will be next year.

Patti,
Maybe they will let you check your supplies with the crew...so they would be on-board if you needed them, but they'd be in their possession so they could feel safe and secure? I would think they would keep emergency stuff like that on-hand anyway...but I don't know anything about what you need or whatever...I would think if these are supplies that your daughter needs within arms-reach at all times, then they need to find a way to take care of you (and her!) Well, I hope it works out for you!
I live down here and I always have my two boys (7 & 9) in tow with me...
We look forward to seeing you!

Bring the following with you to the park-
Medical documentation-just something that states what illness your child has, what is needed, etc. This is just in case you need it-you never know when you might have the need for it, just have it.
As for the needles, let the security folks know what you have on you when they search you and you will have no troubles.
Have a great time.

Well, train gets into Sanford about 8:30am on the 8th and then about an hours wait to get out car off the train. Then about a 45 minute drive to Universal, so I'm guessing we'll get there around 10:30am. Now last year we checked in when we got to HRH but didn't get our room till about 2pm if I recall, so I'm hoping maybe lady luck will shine on us better this year.

Plan to be dropped off at HRH 2/7 am. If room is not ready I will let them hold my bags and head for the parks (at least until Renee arrives ;) )
Chinese New Years is 2/12! We should celebrate the year of the Horse too!
And we could have a late Ground Hog Day celebration! Anything else?
Aloha,

OK I think there should be some handicapping. How about a non-Florida resident bonus for MIB points. I haven't played since last Feb and all 3 of my kids beat me bad. Glad to see you will be there Kelly. WE are checking in to the PB on the 9th and are departing on the 20th.
PS It pays to keep checking your rates. I got a great Loews reservationist who was able to do better that the sea to shining sea rate on 6 of my nights. She was great. It took her about 15 mins. on a toll free call. But I told her I had all the time in the world for savings. NOw I have $139.00 as opposed to $169.00 on some of the nights. I'll take that. More money for lunch at Mythos which by the way we tried last year because of these boards and I was very impressed. They were very food allergy conscious and to be honest our family liked it better than Emerils. So we will definitely be eating at Mythos again this year. It was our top restaurant. 2nd was Lombards. Then I have to give a two thumbs up to Sals Market Deli (PB) pizza. Didn't mean to go into a restaurant review. I guess I am getting excited. See you soon.
PPS How is the weather.!!!!!

MIB999999 will be there 2/9 and 2/10. Maybe 2/8 in the pm depending on what the rest of you have planned and what is going on Mardi Gras wise:smooth:
bskmom: if MIB999999 or MsDis or rocketman23 or bucs300 or even Barry are there we can not give you a large enough handicap, any of us however will be glad to tell and show you what we know about which targets to hit:smooth:

MIB999999 - So no chance in winning Kelly's booK?!!!!! Tips will be fun though. Last year my boys met some guy in line while we were waiting for Mardis Gras float tickets (was it you?!!). He had lots of info on MIB tips. They couldn't wait to try them out. We didn't know about the exhaust until we met him. I like this ride because it doesn't matter how old you are just how well you aim. My boys (7 and 8) met so many people just by talking about MIB and how to get more points., They are big time into this game. It is the good thing about staying on site and getting the annual pass. Our family would bop over for a couple spins on MIB maybe a ride on Woody Wood pecker for my daughter and then head back to the pool. They were in heaven. At night we would let my husband ride a few coasters. I would scream on Jurassic Park river adventure and then a few more spins on MIB. What could be better for vacation.

You sure know how to make a girl happy! Make sure Camille brings pictures of her soap box victories!
I am happy Kelly is coming. Have both of his books and he is the reason we added on Sea World last year and forced Barry to take us to Gatorland! ;) Since I will be visiting my parents before Universal this time, I am trying to talk them into a visit to Busch Gardens by quoting Kelly to them. (Anyone know a cheap, but classy hotel there? They are in their 70's and not used to what I can afford. LOL)
I cannot believe how this is all coming together.
Mahalo to each of you!

If you want a cheap hotel in Tampa, use Priceline. I found a hotel by the airport for $23! You can also try the Days Inn and Howard Johnson's across the street. I think their rates run around $40 to $50 a night. It isn't the PBH, but it's a room! :)
Do we need to have a reunion at Gatorland? I think we ought to "force" everyone to go to Sak Comedy Lab. :)
MsDisney
01-05-2002, 05:57 PM
Donna,
I agree with Barry...try Priceline...you can punch in the number of stars you're not willing to go below, and the price you're willing to pay...I used them Wed. night, for Thurs. night. I figured if they could find me a room for $30, we would spend 2 days at Busch Gardens, and they got me the AmeriSuites for $30. The room I was in goes for $100 a night, normally! Don't know if I'd call it classy tho...I'm spoiled by Disney Resorts and it was nice, but not what I've grown accustomed to.
It's worth a shot tho...if you say 3 or 4 stars, you'll probably get a decent place at a very decent price! :)

How's about three books: my Universal guide, my "Other Orlando" guide, and "The Hassle-Free Walt Disney World Vacation" (not by me but put out by my publishing company)?
Just when is this shootout?
Also looks like my wife and I will be arriving in Orlando next Wednesday night. Anyone around then?

Heck, I've bid on 1 star rooms and I usually get 2 star rooms. I haven't been revolted by any of the rooms I've gotten. Now if I told you about the Continental Motel in Kissimmee... :)
I wouldn't expect the Ritz for $30 a night, but I hear AmeriSuites are nice places.

I will bet that if all parties show we will be at MIB until 11:35 and then leave for MYTHOS to be there at 12:00. We will then do the coasters et all after lunch in IOA.
Now if MsDiz get soundly trounced she will no doubt plead for one more shot at MIB:)

After reading this thread I am glad to see I will not be the only one with kids in tow so please do officially count me in! We will be there 2/7 till 2/11@ HRH
I know we'll be riding the MIB several times since it's my son's favorite ride, but he does not let me fire my gun (go figure how an 11yo with autism thinks), so I guess the shootout is out for me...
I'd like to sign up for that lunch at Mythos too, but I can't find that post where Barry gave a link to sign up for it- can you post it again here? Thanks
and oh yes- for the person that asked for another reason to celebrate during that timeslot, the 8th will be my daughter's 13th birthday maybe we can all sing to her LOL

And maybe we can have a birthday meet? :jester: I had a post card last year that said they have 2 birthday celebrations with cake:
IOA - 2:45 at Circus McGurkus Big Top-Seussian Sing-a-Long
US - 3:30 at Cafe La Bamba, celebrate with the stars
Do they still have these celebrations? Or maybe a 13 year old girl wouldn't appreciate them??

There is very little at USO/IOA that my kids DON'T appreciate-
they love it all. My daughter even loves Lucy and my son's 2nd favorite after MIB is Alfred Hitchcock! I gave up trying to figure these 2 out a long time ago...unconditional love- lol
Anyway, I will call passholder services and find out about the birthday to-dos, thanks for the suggestions.
This is getting really exciting, a new twist when our road trips were getting predictable!
