View Full Version : International College Program

My DD23 participated in the International College Program last year. She was a CM in the Haunted Mansion and it was truly a dream come true for this 'little' girl that had fallen in love with the Magic Kingdom some 22 years earlier!
One of the many blessings of being there, was the wonderful friends that she made from all over, some from this Canadian thread, and I thought I would include a link here of a really wonderful tribute that a dear friend from Ireland put heart and soul into making. You can see that Disney has also stolen his heart.
If anyone is considering, or has a son/daughter thinking of doing this program, this should give them a glimpse into, how magical and life changing the whole experience can be.
It brought tears to my eyes that's for sure!

That was awsome. I was in the Collage Program 16 yrs ago and I stayed at Vista Way. The video brought back lots of memories. I have emailed some of my disney friends to have a look at the video.

Okay Karen, way to make me cry!
I didn't know Kev had made such a nice tribute to last summer and it was so much fun spotting the kids.
Brynna is still waiting and waiting and waiting................ We're hoping this week (but that's what we said last week).

How is everyone doing? Been a great week of nice weather so things are looking up!
How bout the 'big' surprise Marjorie at CSC? Should be interesting to hear all the details....
Just wondering, do you ladies know how Income tax works for the girls with their Disney stint? So they have to file a U.S return or is it declared here? The form that Disney sent...I presume that's all there is?
Just a wondering!
Hope you are all well and enjoy the weekend! Any big plans?
Talk soon?

Hey there. Still alive here on the We(s)t coast, shivering at the cool weather we're having compared to you Easterners!
I really don't know much about what to do with the W-2 form, but I printed off the tax form from WDWIP, it's the 2006 version and followed the instructions more or less. Brynna has yet to sign it and then we'll send it in and see if she gets the tax back. We never listed it on her Cdn. tax return and I'm not sure if that's right or not. Oh well, let me know what you end up doing.
Yes, Karen, strange email recv'd today from CSC, guess more will come out as time goes on.
Hope you're doing well too Bonnie.
No word yet from International although I heard Kevin had his phone interview today and he'll know soon whether he's off to the World again.
Have a great weekend!

Ohhhhh is it cold out there Marjorie? We'll blow some warmth your way tho today is chilly and drab...:sad2:
Thanks for the info...I have sent the link, tho it's a little outdated, to Terry so he can peruse it. They didn't really pay too much Income tax to get refunded! Of course, it's not like they made a pile of $$ either!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to SHAYNA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For the tax thing, if they're still Canadian residents (have driver's license, provincial medical, intending to return home rather than establish residence in the U.S.), they're probably SUPPOSED to file a US 1040NR (non-resident) and also a Canadian return where they declare the income from the US and deduct any taxes that they did owe in the US, after getting their refund, on it. Canada taxes on worldwide income, as long as you're a Canadian resident, and that means if you haven't established a residence abroad. That said, it's such a PITA to do all that for a young person who's not making megabucks that I'm sure most people don't bother, and if you happen to get called on it by the tax people (audit), you probably won't get a penalty laid on you, just have to pay the tax owing.

Was that last August? The girl in the Jungle Cruise Operator, I remember her.. She was so funny.. If that is the same girl..
Weird how you remember those things...

I would love to!! But my hubby might think I am losing it when I tell him I am leaving for 3 months! ;)

Well, they were there different times and for different lengths of time but all were there through the Summer months. That would be 'Louisa' from England, though you may not know that, and yes, she was a hoot!
I would love to do it too..but my hubby would have me put away I think! Oh if only....next life?:confused3

He did a FABULOUS job! The music selection is perfect..the pictures tell of a great journey from beginning to end. I am just waiting for Shanan to call and say "Okay, where's mine"???? Oh dear...
I can never get over how much fun it looks like they are having with non stop laughter despite the hard work of day to day. Terry thinks these girls should be in theatrics they are so animated!
Thanks for posting, tell Ben IT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, how was Shayna when she saw it? I am thinking I should have bought some stocks in Kleenex?

Glad you liked the video...you can now say you're on YouTube! lol
Shayna was thrilled with the video...he put so much time and energy into it...
Hope you're enjoying a nice day. We just got back from the inlaws...it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be quite frankly...it's always chaotic and it never feels like you've had a nice visit with anyone. Drives me crazy!
Hope the news for Brynna is good Marjorie...there are so many disappointed kids out there - I hope she's not one of them!

It was great tho..without me , bettter...but great! These 'young'ns' are so talented with putting this stuff together! Shanan told me it made her cry again...what a bunch of babies we are!
Sounds like you enjoyed your Easter? Hope you did as well Marjorie?
We went out for seafood Friday nite, friends last night and had Easter dinner with friends 2 streets over tonight so it was great and within staggering distance! Perfect weekend and NO cooking for me so total bonus!
Well, that's it for me..look forward to hearing about your Easter too Marjorie. Wonder if they can put these 2 threads together? Hmmm...

Hey there ladies. Happy belated Easter to you! We spent the long weekend at my sister's on the Lower Mainland and had plenty of food and chocolate. We even had temps of 25 degrees!!! Unfortunately we're back down to 12 or so.
The other unfortunate part of the weekend of course was trying to keep Brynna happy. She got the bad news on Thursday morning (bad mom woke her up to tell her per the WDWIP boards, so she could do damage control). She is going to have a phone interview with Disney though, next week, for the summer program. Let's keep our fingers crossed!!!
Haven't watched youtube yet but I will soon. Looking forward to seeing it.
Take care!

Just a quick update ladies. Brynna had her phone interview this morning and seemed very positive after the call. She was told she'd find out by the end of the week and has been busy faxing passport info, resume, etc. to International.
Karen, did I read somewhere that you're booked at WDW sometime this summer? Brynna mentioned Kevin might be heading back at the end of August for a visit.
Take care, I'll let you know what happens!

That's great!! Keeping it crossed that all goes well for Brynna as I know she is itching to get back there! LOL..
Yes, we are going at the end of August for 8 days and are looking at perhaps adding a 3 day Disney cruise if it all works out. Staying at the Poly. Shanan mentioned that Kevin is looking at a trip too...and I know Shayna is 'wishing' for one too so maybe we'll have one big reunion whilst there!;)
Keep us posted! Sounds promising...:thumbsup2

Whew, talk about quick turnaround. Brynna got a call from Eric at Cast-a-way early this morning (our time) offering her a job in operations. She called me all giddy from excitement. Thank goodness, now it won't be a gloomy summer around my place (except for me missing her of course!).
We're planning a trip from July 27 - August 4, the only time that worked for my DH's schedule (since he's already booked off 4 weeks in December for our bigger trip).
Brynna wants to know when Shanan might be visiting the World as she's there until August 24 but is considering staying longer if it means seeing Kevin and Shanan.
talk soon!

Whoo-Hoo! That's great news for Brynna...tho I am sure not so much for Mom? I know in our heart of hearts we are thrilled when they are happy but I know I am glad that I get to see my 'baby' this summer and I am sure you would like to as well! Of course, Shanan is pretty far away all year long though..Brynna has been longing and waiting for this tho so I am sure she is delighted! What a shame that Kevin wasn't offered Ops then he would have gone again I am sure. Wonder why?
We are 'tentatively' booked Aug 24-Sep 01 but until we see what Summer employment comes down the pipes for Shanan that won't be firmed up. I think she is hoping for an Internship of sorts in her field of Engineering-Chemistry and is meeting up with a friend of ours when she gets home from University (He is a Chief of Radiology and has connections at Siemens so might be of help)to see what might be available. Shanan gets home on Apr 29 then we are off to New York City May 2-May 7 so hopefully she can get the ball rolling before we fly out. So our dates could change at this point it is hard to say. This is why I cannot even pencil in a Disney cruise until I see for sure what will happen.:confused3 I know that Shanan,Shayna and Kevin are all hoping desperately to hook up so that would be great if Brynna is there too and they can take a walk down memory lane! There is some big Reunion here in May as well..though I have no idea who is going to be there for that one. I think the long weeked in May? Shanan has been able to meet up with a few of the guys that attend McGill and other Universities close to her through the year so that is great that such friendships have been forged! At one point the girls (Shanan+Shayna) talked about going to Ireland to see Kevin! LOL...
How are Shayna's finals going Bonnie? On the homestretch now? Shelby's last one is this morning then tomorrow I will collect her and her steamer trunks to bring both home! Next weekend we are off to Kingston to move Shanan out of her apt and into a house for her final year. YAY! It's a crazy time of year.
Well, my sister is flying in from the U.K tomorrow so I have a house to get 'guest worthy'!
Have a great weekend all!
Keep us posted about Brynna's placement...hope it's a good one!:thumbsup2

Congratulations to Brynna! I know she fought hard to get back to Disney...talk about a rollercoaster ride!
Shayna has her final exam tonight and it's the hardest one for her so hopefully things will go okay. No job lined up yet which has been terribly discouraging, but hopefully something will come down the pipe soon! I think we both thought that having Disney on a resume would at least open the door to an interview, but so far nothing! Kind of ironic considering she's never really had to work at getting a job so this is a first!
We are consciously leaving the last week before Labour Day open in case we can firm up some vacation plans, but not sure if we can convince Shayna's one brother to 'do' Disney again! lol
Nice to hear your sister is coming to visit Karen - how nice for you! Especially since the weather seems to be turning 'round a bit! :)
Enjoy your weekends ladies! Talk soon!

Hey Ladies!
Thought I would stop by, say Hi and see what's doing?!
Got back from New York City last night where we spent 6 great days! We did everything...as this was Shanan's first trip! Shelby and I have been many times but for one reason or another it seems Shanan has not been able to join us! Anyways, we did all the sites, ate way too much at some great restaurants, did the Today show and the NBC Studio tour and got to see 'Liberty of the Seas' too that had it's inaugaral yesterday! Cool...it was a great time. Now we are struggling to get back to reality! Ugh...
What is new with you and yours? Has Brynna got her departure date yet Marjorie? Bet the sleep-countdown has begun?
How are you and Shayna Bonnie? Any luck on the job front?
I have been perusing air to Orlando with Southwest but am not seeing much I like! Guess I will have to poke around elsewhere...
Well, drop a line and bring me up to speed?
:thumbsup2

Hey! Glad to hear you girls had fun in the Big Apple! :)
Shayna's hoping to hook up with Shanan sometime soon...she got a job at Staples which she seems to be enjoying, and is waiting to hear about working for the Guelph Storm hockey club doing summer promotional work at golf tournaments, etc. If she gets that, then it should be enough to fill her time and pocketbook!
We've had a rough week around here...my youngest, Jarrett, had an accident on his bike a week ago Sunday and completely dislocated his ankle joint! Yuck! Had to be sedated to reset it and we go see the orthopedic surgeon on Thursday to determine if he needs surgery. He's not able to go to school and has to keep it elevated... :(
I picked up a new client which hasn't gotten off to a good start...just found out that I was the last person to use his computer and when he turned it on, it had supposedly deleted files and was all screwed up! He's not pointing fingers, and I know I didn't do anything wrong, but it still feels crappy...
So much for my rant....lol
Take care...talk soon!

:thumbsup2 Ohh Bonnie what a bummer....tell me again what you do?? I cannot for the life of me remember but then that is nothing new!!! We got our hotel on Priceline, used Shanan's Laptop and she contracted a Virus from PL...crashed her whole computer hard drive...all of her work, pictures, you name it...so Terry has taken hers to get it all cleaned up and given her his. I of course felt awful as she did the bidding using hers for me:guilty: Ohh...know how you feel.
That's awful about Jared...sure hope that he doesn't need anything major done to repair it...poor kid
Shanan did tell me that she and Shayna are planning to get together, that will be great. Good too that she is enjoying her job...Shanan has not had a moment yet to even get to thinking about that but soon..!
Hope the days ahead are better to u!

Hi all! Glad to hear the goings on back East!
Karen, sounds like an awesome time in NYC. We've never been but my sister is thinking a cruise on RCI out of NY in Dec. 08 would be a great way to celebrate her 40th birthday. This will mean a few nights post-cruise in NYC to do all the touristy stuff. Brynna's also pulling for a viewing of Wicked.
Anyways, that's in the future. More recently, my DH and I just got back from a 1-nighter from Vancouver to Seattle on the Golden Princess. Great ship, lousy embarkation process. We waited 3 hours to get on while my sister and b-in-law waited 5.5 hours! Not enuf customs officers to deal with the disembarking passengers thereby causing a huge gridlock. At least the time on the ship was fun and gave me a chance to check out the sister ship of the Caribbean Princess which we're on in December.
Brynna is leaving the evening of May 26 from Victoria via Seattle. She's terribly excited and just received her schedule from her Coordinator of Training, they gave her Coaster again! She must have pushed all the right buttons......anyway, she's even more excited.
We'll be heading out at the end of July for 8 nights I think, just when it couldn't get any hotter!
Bonnie, you do bookkeeping or accounting don't you? Hope things work out for you.
Well, I'm off to bed. Hope you all have a good week.

Hey ladies!
Ding! Ding! You're right Margorie! I have about 1/2 dozen bookkeeping clients that I work with, mostly from home, and just feel sick about this new one. Have to go there this afternoon and not looking forward to it although I've decided not to go on and on about it...quite honestly, I know I didn't do anything wrong so I've just got to let it go...
So sorry to hear about Shanan's computer...that sucks!
Great to hear that Brynna got coaster...I know Shayna has always thought the opportunity would never be as good again, assuming it would be a different job. Brynna should be able to carry on where she left off and not experience the 'weirdness' of something different. Now let's just hope she gets a half-decent group of girls in her apartment! :thumbsup2
Have a great day!

05-09-2007, 09:43 AM
Oh yes Bonnie....I remember now, for now!;) You must just let it go..you were perhaps just in 'the wrong place at the wrong time' so don't be letting the Client hang anything on you! Computers can be fickle things and who knows what sets them off down the wrong road.
That's GREAT Marjorie that Brynna got the same posting! I am sure it will be like putting a pair of comfie slippers back on and she'll settle right back in! Not sure I envy the Goodbyes for you again :sad2: Shanan feels like Shayna, that it could never be the same again...and 1st time round was sure pretty awesome. She would do a program that might count towards her Academics, but that's about all she would consider I think. I keep trying to get her to think of Euro-Disney..as she speaks 'enough' French and has a European Union Passport as well so the Visa process would be non existant..but she seems reluctant to consider that even...I don't know...can lead a Horse to water...that's about it! When you've done the best...what else is there?
When we were in NYC..we went to the Disney Store on 5th Ave. Very cool...and they have characters there too...Minnie is there dressed in a Statue of LIberty Costume..haha..and they have a little stage area where you can get pics taken with them all..well set up. I bought yet another antenna topper..this one is Mickey with the Statue of Liberty Crown..lol..very cute
Well, it's very warm and muggy here today..big hair day for me! Yup Marjorie, July will be HOT! But then so is August and we have gone in August since year one so can't be that bad right??? I do always say "that's it, never again" till I book next year!:lmao:

Just thought I'd check in with you ladies.
Been back from Victoria a few hours now after tearfully releasing my daughter to her airplane. I thought I wasn't as bad as last year but my DH assures me I was! I had witnesses this time, the mother of Brynna's friend who is also going and Brynna's friend Tabi who we took with us to say her goodbyes.
Right now Brynna is enroute to Seattle and will arrive at 7:20 am and then it all begins again, first stop after apartment assignment is WalMart. I know she'll be calling me tomorrow, just hope it's not toooooo early.
How are things going with you all? Did Shanan find summer employment? Any further plans on your WDW trip?
Take care, talk soon!

Good morning Marjorie!
I'm sure Brynna's excitment to go back will be what gets you through the summer!
Shayna and Shanan are actually enjoying a Disney reunion of sorts this weekend...a bunch of Canadian guys and the two of them are spending the weekend in Toronto - going to see Pirates, etc. A couple of them actually flew in from the West so they can all commiserate on the fact that they're not heading out today. :(
Shayna did call and say the movie was fantastic! :)

Ohhhh Madge...I cannot say I envy any goodbyes again :-(
I know Brynna is delighted to be going but oh why must they always go away from home?!?! Shanan mentioned doing some courses on a cruise ship the other day and I thought ugh, here we go again....
Nothing permanent employment wise. A few assignments here and there really...and I think that's perfect. Shanan has a tremendously heavy workload through the school year and I would be happy for her to just take a little work here and there to keep her from getting stir crazy and relax and enjoy the break before entering her final year. She may go over to France to see a friend that is doing a course there outside Paris through UofT for a month. I keep telling her to go, even if only for 10 days or so....her friend is finished class every day at noon and has wknds off so they could have a blast! She continues to 'ponder' the thought:coffee:
Still doing Disney but we are flipping back and forth between earlier in Aug and later in the month. Shanan has committments back at Queens and we are not 100% sure of when she needs to be back yet so that is holding us up. I keep saying to plan it early in the month to avoid complications but it has always been traditionally an end of summer thing we have always done soooooo here we are, sitting on the fence! Shelby is even coming albeit VERY reluctantly and we had to bribe her with a few days at the Beach prior to getting to WDW. Gotta do what you gotta do!
Will be looking for reports here Marjorie all about Vista Way and Wendys and all that good stuff again!!! Hope all goes as splendidly as last year!
How are you Bonnie? I know how Shayna is doing as she is with Shanan at the big Disney reunion!!!!!:lmao: I haven't heard one word all wknd from them so I imagine they are having a blast! They had a perfect day yesterday for Wonderland didn't they? I think it's awesome that from far and wide, they all keep in touch and make the effort to meet up. Keep those memories alive!
Well, better make myself useful around here today. Kitchen is on the home stretch now, finalllllly. Flooring being done Jun 25-29 then the cabinets after the Canada Day wknd. Terry ripped apart the fireplace in the family room yesterday so we can prepare for a Gas insert...I tell you, these things really snowball and now pretty much, the whole lower level has had 'something' done to it!:confused3 Not sure how that happens...but it does!
Have a great day ladies!

Hi ladies.
Brynna seems to be settling in just fine. She's actually in an apartment with 5 other Canadians, her roomie is the girl she travelled down with, who she's known since birth. She already knew she didn't have to do the social security card thing again but also found out she didn't have to do Traditions as well. Therefore she's had a little more free time to get all the stuff she needs and do all her errands. Her last day of freedom is tomorrow then starts a 6:30 am shift on Friday to do her recert. (if all goes well).
She's having a lot more fun with her new roommates, she actually attended a Vista Way sponsored pool party last night which she never did last year as her then roommates didn't want to go.
She booked our room at Pop for 10 nights at the end of July and now I just have to deal with the airfare and car rental.
Any decision on when you're going down to WDW Karen? Done your CSC rally yet? We had ours on Sunday. Fortunately short but sweet, although I do like to hear Fred Mercer speak, he does it very well.
Take care!

Hello ladies!
That sounds much easier than last time around...great! The roomies sure can 'make or break' it that's for sure and it seems as if there's good chemistry so that is half the battle!
Did you know Bonnie, that Shanan & Shayna are plotting getting back there yet again?? I know Shanan wants the yr long Internship..one of the guys that they hung with this past weekend is off this week for an Intern. Not sure how that all works tho? They are also bugging ne to find air to Ireland again...guess they are itching to see Kev? haha..
We have our rally next week...June 6. I usually try to be away..lol...but here I am! Oh well..free dinner and some giggles with the girls?
