View Full Version : some more Info on pirates resort, maybe...

Now before I say anything, you have to remember this is all second hand info, I my self don't want to get excited about it because as second hand info, you need to take it with a grain of salt. But either way, I need to share this info with you.
A while ago, I did a thread here about over hearing 2 staff members at AKL talking about the pirates resort late at night (im a nite owl). I have no idea where that post went because the search option doesn't work. So, I forgot about that.
Last friday night, 2 days ago, I went out to eat at a nice restaurant with an old friend that was up to visit friends and relatives in the area. He and his wife, and my wife and I. He was very excited about a project that would put his company above and beyond any competitors. He's a contractor for a pool company. They have a project to build the worlds largest pool or the way he put it was, the worlds largest contained filtered water environment, something like that. And I congratulated him, and asked who it was that needed such a pool. He then said the whole project was hush hush, they had to sign agreements to keep it quiet until notification. Now at this point, I wanted to know about this more then ever, but I still never thought disney had anything to do with it. For some reason it never connected. I was thinking some water park was opening somewhere, or maybe its in some other country, I didn't know. So, I sat there, itching to know what it was, and thinking of ideas to make him talk. Now, he and his wife always have many drinks when they go out to eat. About 5 each, at least. To the point they are a bit tipsy, but not yet drunk. So, this hatched a plan. After they finished there 5th drink, I waited for the waiter to come over, and said "could you please bring them 2 more, on me, thank you" and told them it was to celebrate this new project he got. To cut to the chase, I ended up buying 6 more drinks each.
At which point, he was zooted. Now, I don't know about a anyone else, but when he's like this, he always tells the truth. So, I slipped it into the conversation again, and he told me that disney was the one who contracted him to build this. He told me it was the size of a small lake. And that it was for a new resort. That it was going to need 8 very large filtration systems, 4 always functioning, and 4 as backup to keep it clear, like ocean water. And this was all I got out of him.
If I were to guess, its for a pirates resort for sure. But like I said, I don't want anyone to take this for 100% fact. It is second hand info after all.
Is there anyone else out there that has any info about this new resort?

PS: His identity is safe, he is one of many contractors working on this.

With that many drinks, forget the resort and/or the pool, I would be saying I was a Pirate! pirate: :lmao:

There are rumors that WDW is considering transforming a portion or maybe the entire Caribbean Beach Resort into a pirates themed resort. The rumors are that some of the rooms would be rehabed into pirates themed family suites and that the main pool would also be transformed into a more pirates themed area. I believe that WDW has already scheduled a major rehab of the main pool at CBR starting in early 2008.

Maybe it's the filtration system for Bay Lake/7 seas lagoon to kill off the brain eating Amoeba?

I did say, this is not fact, remember? Its second hand info. Theres always a chance its the truth and same goes for it being not the truth. I have not claimed it to be truth.
but I do know him, and I do know even when drunk, people cant be that specific with out goofing something up. And he is not a goofball drunk. That much I do know. Its all up to you to believe or not. I personally want to believe, but thats me.

Wow this sounds great everybody knows that Pirates lived like kings. I think I'm getting scurvy just thinking about a pirate theme. I wonder if they are going to have special wishes come true like every 500th guest will get a real peg leg. Or while staying in one of the steerage rooms...... real rats!!!!! I wonder if there will be random acts of pillaging by the cast members on the guest?....I mean more then the usual done by Disney.

YoHo

The pillaging will be less blatant. Also Female castmembers in corsets will wander around slapping guests.
And that's to say nothing of the eviceration....and G-d forbid you're of spanish decent. Every day they'll march up to your room armed to the teeth and demand tribute.

The only undocumented story I've heard or read is a discussion (http://www.screamscape.com/html/walt_disney_world_resort.htm) to start converting rooms themed to the Pirates of the Caribbean at the CBR.

Lou Mongello mentioned this rumor during "the rumor mill" during WDW Radio podcast

I heard that too, but its hard to tell if there is really anything new on this, or if its just the same rumor resurfacing. And if it is at least being considered, exactly how extensive it will be.

Also it could be possible that your friend may have gotten the contract for the Pool for the new Animal Kingdom DVC resort which is reportedly going to be an acre and a half. (half an acre larger than the pool at Y&B club)

What's a DVC Resort?

Disney Vacation Club Resort - Disney's timeshares. Animal Kingdom is the most recent incarnation, just starting in on the pre-sales and hype.

Oh, thats cool. Is this time share going to be connected to AKL? Like an add on? I always wanted to look into the Disney Vacation Club thing, to see if its worth it, esp for me, who would love to go every year, but only goes every other year.

yeah sorry AKL forever not AKL Lover. The resort is in the planning/building phase. Some of the Conceriege rooms in the actual AKL are being turned into DVC rooms now. but in the next couple of yers there will be a brand new 22 acre faciltiy adjacent to the AKL used exclusively for DVC

I think my family was one of few that was not thrilled with CBR. We actually preferred the value resorts. BUT, if they go with pirate theming... We're in!!!

the worlds largest contained filtered water environment

It would seem more likely to me that WDW was finally going to compete with Discovery cove. Think about it. Discovery Cove already has one of the largest water areas with Atlantis in the Bahamas having the largest I am aware of. :sail:

There actually is a strong rumor involving a Disney project and a large body of swimming-pool quality water, but it is at Disney's California Adventure in Anaheim, not at WDW. Disney is apparently developing a new "World of Color" nighttime spectacular for Paradise Bay, rumored to be using the Waltzing Waters company to design the display. On the Waltzing Waters website (www.waltzingwaters.com) they mention that treated water is necessary to keep maintenance down, and that they usually install the show in a pool. I know the contractor friend is in Florida, but this is going to be a pretty large project, and I can imagine a large pool contractor in Florida bidding for a piece of it.

AKLforever- you've got to take them out to dinner again, so we can get the full scoop, whatever it is!

I thought I read somewhere that the Caribbean Beach Resort's main pool will be down for an extended rehab sometime in 2008, could be part of this rumor.

I would squidmo, but hes going to be on this project for a long time, with no brakes for at least a year. It will even be hard to get him on the phone. Even so, I cant get him tipsy over the phone, hehe. But im doing other research and im finding some really cool things about a company that builds old world ships having some huge contract, but other then that, theres no connection between disney and them. Im going to dig some more and see what I cant find. I want to look into all the companies that do this sort of work to see if any of them might slip up and let me know something. I have my ways when it comes to disney, they cant keep things from me for too long. If only I was like this with ufo's? :teleport:

This is the second time I have read this post since March, but I still think you're jumping the gone here. Couldn't it just be a pool for the AKL DVC or CR DVC?

You mean water park #4.

New waterpark is adult only. The water slides are actually beer slides and the lazy River is filled with rum.
