We are staying at Vero beach (me, DW, DD 10, & DS 7) for the first time. Need some suggestions for dining around resort area - we will have a car. Just looking for good clean quality family meals. Any help is appreciated.

We will be there Monday, Tuesday and part of Wednesday this week. We always like to visit Bono's BBQ on US 1 in Vero Beach when we are there.

Do they serve real BBQ or are their meats boiled/grilled/sauced?

I have tried Capt Hiriams which is about a mile north of the resort on US 1 its fun with entertanment a decent food. Its casual rustic atmosphere on the water. Hope this helps. Vero is the best for a relaxing family trip enjoy!:flower3:

There is an Italian pizza, sub, pasta place next to the resort that is take-out. I've never tried it but am planning to on the next trip. There are many chains about 8-10 miles from the resort. The resort is isolated in terms of restaurants other than those on property.

Thank you Walter, dismom58 and Halle. We like siumple food and are fans of TGIF's, Ruby Tuesdays, Pizza (but not the hut of Papa's), etc. -- and my favorite Pasta on the lite side. Really looking for ideas on where people have eaten and what they think of the places/food. Thanks again.
We just returned yesterday! Wonderful resort, wonderful trip! We tried several places-Squid Lips is on the water (in Sebastien-maybe 15 minute drive?)-alot of choices from sandwiches to full dinners-specials if you're there by 5:30-for 9.99. We liked it-good seafood. The Captain and the Cowboy was also very nice-. The Riverside Cafe in Vero was right under the bridge-we had two pelicans right outside our window no more than 5 feet away-again, the seafood was good. I usually order an appetizer or soup for dinner with a salad and none of the places we ate had a problem with that-my husband ordered full dinners at all these places and was happy with all of them. We also had two great dinners at Shutters. Any questions, just ask! :)

SLM, thanks for the info - that's what I am looking for. I noticed your location is listed as PA - where abouts in PA? I am right outside of Philadelphia.

We enjoy Captain Hiram's (I had broiled stuffed shrimp last week, delicious). We walked to look at the Orchid Pizza before eating there, and it looked good and we weren't disappointed. We brought a pizza back to the room for lunch. They have an extensive menu, varied, pizza, cold subs, hot subs, and dinners. We'll go again.
We also enjoy Shutters, on site. I had a sea scallop/mussel special and would love to have it again.

Captain Hiram's has great food and is lots of fun. If Downpour, Groovebone, or dManufacture are playing at the Sand Bar during you visit, make sure to catch them!

If you enjoy Friday's I think you'll like Carrabas, it is a chain and has very good Italian/American food. We think it's a step or two up from the Olive Garden. We first tried it out in VB and this past fall they opened one where we live....I did the happy dance!!!
We're in YorkCounty-south central PA I guess! Too far from Vero Beach, that's for sure! We're thinking of trying Hilton Head next-can drive there and have our own car and beach items.
Oh! If you eat at Shutters ask to be seated in the glass porch area-much nicer and less crowded than main dining area-both times we made a reservation about 2-4 hours before we wanted to eat and it was not a problem. The waiters are so nice and friendly-all the staff, really. I could've stayed another week!

We've never had a bad meal at Hiram's.
Ay Jalisco is disgusting, IMO. Don't go there.
They just opened a Quiznos on US1-about 2 or 3 blocks North of Hirams.
Woody's BBQ in Sebastian is good.
Ruby Tuesday across the street from Woody's is good but we like the one in Vero better.
We've heard good things about the Captain and the Cowboy and the Hula Grill. (both on the water in Sebastian near Hiram's)
There is a little place on US1 in Sebastian called Taco Reef. Maybe try that for lunch.
We have yet to find a decent pizza place in the area and we have tried everything.
If you go into Vero you could try Casey's Place for lunch or Cravings. They are both near the beach within a few blocks of eachother.
