I am getting some quotes for getting out carpets cleaned and what these companies want to charge for scotch guarding is unreal!! I know they just spray stuff on the carpet but does it really help keep your carpets cleaned?? Do any stores like Target sell the scotchguard so I can just do it myself?? Thanks!

All I can say is I will pay it next time. The prior owner of my unit did not have it done and the carpets are showing EVERY little bit of dirt so I am going to have to pay to have it done much sooner then I should have. I had it done on my first home and based on what I see now... YES it helps!

YES YES YES!! My friend has light beige carpeting in her finished basement. Every year she has a new years eve party with 20 families (big basement!) you woudn't believe how when the kids spill pop and what not she just gets her white towel out and dabs at it and it comes right up. I swear if I"d of not seen it with my own two eyes I would not have believed that a can of spilt pepsi could be dabbed up that you couldn't even tell anything was spilled. She says it's cause of the scotch guard. Of course with spots it works best to get them sopped up right when they happen.

I have found the same thing with companies like Stanley Steamer. They give you a low price and then they start adding on.

I found a company here in Memphis that is independently run by a man and his wife. They use the big machine in the van like the others do, but instead of charging by "area" they charge by the square foot and the scotch guard is done for a very reasonable price. Maybe there is someone like that where you live too.

I would inquire with people who own rental houses. If they do a good job on the messes people make in rental homes, then they should be able to clean anything!

Stanley Steamer mine and I was well pleased.

In all honesty they were very reasonable.

I think they charged me a extra 30 bucks for the scotch guard

I think it is worth it. The carpets look nicer longer, and spills just bead up.

When they have to start adding that to the price of the carpet, that shows the carpet isn't a good one. Many of them already come with their own stain warranty already. If you add a scotch guard to a carpet that is still under some sort of warranty, you may end up voiding the manufacturer's warranty ..so just be careful.. And if the carpet is old, the stains will end up comming back thru anyway in a matter of a few months anyway.

We had carpet replace in our living room less than a year ago, with a berber carpet. When the carpet layers where installing it, they told me to make sure that when I have the carpet steam cleaned to have it retreated. The cleaning process does also take the chemical out of the carpet that is for stain resistance. Or they said that I could buy cans of scotch guard and do it myself.
