But what if everyone perceived the same thing, with no doubt at all? would it become real then, since, in that case that belief does become their reality?

I believe nothing is reality. I can go on for hours about my physcobabble beliefs.
I think that we perceive everything to be how it is. I know that probably makes no sense, but it's my thoughts.
Nothing is really real.

There is an old phrase, "you are the main character in your own life story"
I think that means that you create your reality. you choose what you live by, and you affect everything around you with those choices.

Uh I think that all the time. Also,
I will look at people and think, 'Am I the only real one in this world? Is the world just about me?' I know it seems a little weird but I do.
I also wonder if different people feel things differently, is their pain different? Are their emotions different?

Its hard to realize that there are so many individual minds around you. And some of them seem so fake, that they're just there to upset you. And you wonder if they're really feeling everything you are. which, logically, they must, but if everyone is feeling so strongly, wouldn't everyone just be falling apart, like you are? and if everyone is feeling that way, how do they all keep so quiet about it.

im pretty sure if you closed your eyes right now and pictured the most perfect beach imaginable, you could scour the earth and someday find it. i guess, whatever you think of, has to be real. because you make it that way.

I think everyone matters to someone. I think everyone affects someone, and that person affects another, and another and so on and so forth. I think its our purpose to find who we're meant to affect, or change. Some people are meant to touch more than one life, some are meant to touch one. I believe that everything has a purpose like that, not just people. Like, my keyboard for instance. Its purpose may be to let me communicate these ideas, and years from now someone will come across them and be affected by what I said.

Good thoughts. Everyone has a purpose to affect someone. Good idea.
I believe that we are all an experiment (yes, it's sounds weird). We were put on this planet to see what we would do. And look what we've done. We have thrived to survive, because we have fear of the unknown. We focus everything around surviving. But we humor ourselves on someone's "failure". We love to see this. The failure to survive, Death. We have made ourselves "useful" by various jobs and such. Made ourselves independent but always connected. We humans have made a life that seems so important to us, but it really is miniscule. I believe their is so much more out there.

Nope. That quote is famously penned by William Shakespeare. It is also printed on the Globe Theater.
--------------------------------
I believe in fate. I never used to, but for a few years now I have had increased reasoning to believe everything happens for a reason and we are put on this world for a reason. Similar to what Sparx said, I have this idea about people. I think the people we meet and talk with are who they are for a reason. The friends we make are the friends we make for a reason and from them our lives take shape as they should. The people we dislike help us grow to know ourselves better by understanding what we don't like in those people and those who we admire help us become stronger in what we believe.
Life is a maze and our goal is to reach the way out. We hit turns that are dead ends but if we give up, we can never finish. We have to keep ourselves going and eventually we make right turns and we get further through the maze. The people we meet help us through the maze. Some are there to encourage us, some to give us company and a good time, others to lead us to the end and no matter what, the ones who mean the most to us will be the ones who keep us going and the ones who will change the way we look at the maze. We make the decisions on whether we should turn left or take that second right and then a sharp turn. We make the choices and those choices help us learn. Life is an endless process that if we give up on, we cannot complete.

in school now on ths DIS?!?!
lol. yeah in my philosophy course we are discussing this alot.
we just read a thing by Descartes about our perceptions on things and if it's real or not.
I don't necessarily believe perception=reality.
We all percieve things in different ways. No one will EVER be able to see the worlds through another persons eyes. We only know what WE percieve, and it is virtually impossible for us to know what the people around us percieve as real.
So what is reality? Does reality exist? If everyone has different perceptions, how could there possibly be one definite answer. How can we have a "real" reality if there are billions of people seeing things differently.
How do we know that the people who we admit into psyche wards aren't the ones who are seeing the "real" reality and the "normal" people are wrong.
In my opinion, we can never really define reality, we can never find what the "true" reality is. Because no matter how hard we try, we will NEVEr be able to explain to the person standing next to us what we percieve as real.
i hope that made sense. :goodvibes

When you're mentally healthy, you doubt your sanity. You have thoughts like "I must be insane" "I'm going crazy" etc...
When you are crazy, you never doubt your sanity. You know you're perfectly sane.
So, are we sane because we don't think so, or are we crazy because we do?

Those who are mentally unhealthy are in a lot of cases, incapable of surviving on their own. They are not able to function the way mentally stable people do. The world is run by the mentally stable and those with a stable mind out-number those who do not. Therefore, in the case Sparx presented, those who "doubt" sanity are the ones who are sane.

I don't think it's knowing a little bit more than some, just knowing something others don't...such as we might have an understanding of things they do not. I think it would be quite the interesting thing to take the mind of a mentally unstable person and combine it with that of a mentally stable. Yes.
There were people, such as my grandmother, who thought going into space was impossible. The first space landing, she believed was fake. She went to her grave believing they just taped some people out in the desert and said they were on the moon. She thought it was impossible.
Going into space was impossible until we had technology. I believe, no matter how wild and crazy something is, can be done. If it can't be done, how is it that we went into space. It was wild and crazy and, as my grandmother thought, impossible.
I remember thinking I was psychic. I have/had dreams that happen the next day. I know they did. I've had recent ones that have happened. Jenny believes that's just how our minds work.
If she believes that, when we dream weird, whacky, seemingly impossible things, then aren't we just thinking of the future? Where would we get those crazy ideas? I think it's possible.

Not technically the future. Just feelings we harbor. Last night, I was watching a thing on Sanjaya on American Idol, I had a dream about him, because it was the last thing I was thinking of. People say "Clear your mind" but that is impossible. Our minds are always working.
I believe that none of that stuff really matters and our lifes here are just a miniscule part of what we are really doing.

I don't think, technically the future, I think more like what are minds have processed, conciously and unconciously.

Yes, but who's to say all that stuff is useless. That it isn't just part of the game, that it doesn't have anything to do with reality.
To me, in my perception of life, that stuff is just nonsense. Something to do with our time.
I'm to say a lot of that stuff is useless lol. They might know stuff we don't, but they are unable to use it. They don't use it. And when something isn't used, it's useless...thus the term. lol.

What "stuff" is nonesense? lol. "Stuff" such as what makes this world tick and how the many different societies function...and without the mentally ill? If that is the stuff you are talking about, lol, perhaps this conversation just turned 180 degrees because that isn't about reality anymore, it's about fact and the definite nature of things which eliminates "opinion"...it becomes politics. lol.

I told you what I believe happens. But everyone has their own perception.
I read a book where the evil people of the world, the people who have done wrong, are trapped in a lake and they can't get out. They have no bodies, no nothing, but they still have a mind, they know they're trapped. They can't talk or do anything.

That would be interesting. Or maybe you go on with your life as it was, and you don't realize anything else happened? Or maybe you become something new, someone new? Or maybe you just keep reliving your life, but making it different each time. We don't know.
Or maybe the whole thing is a toy that some little toddler is playing with. Maybe that is what our world is.

There was once a Twilight Zone episode of people that were trapped in a plastic town. Everything from the grass to the squirrel to the food in the cabinets of the houses was fake.
In truth, two little humans had been given to a giant toddler by his giant father, who just returned from a trip. Humans were but toys to him, to be put in his toy city.

"Stuff" was the jobs you mentioned, the way we function. "Game" is the big picture of things.
That stuff might make our little world go round, but I don't think it means anything. Politics, it doesn't mean anything either. We were put on this Earth and this is what we chose to do. We chose to make these things and live off them, technology, it's all useless.
And why is what they know useless? They might know the most important facts ever. The things that tell us why we are. Why we are here, and doing what we do. It's very complicated.
If they know something we don't...why don't we know about it? It's because they don't do anything with it. If they do have some higher information about something, it is useless. You cannot say it isn't because if it wasn't useless, we would know about it. Useless means unusable. If they were able to use it, it would be used. It is NOT an opinion, it is a FACT that if they know something we don't it is USELESS. lol. Don't try to argue it otherwise because it is false. They do NOT use some higher intelligence that we don't know about. Therefore it is useless.
There are many different areas and levels of mental illnesses. It isn't one type. Each is a deteriation of the brain cells. They don't have what it takes to function properly. What they have are defects of the most important organ of our body. I would be willing to argue the fact that babies have a an intelligence we don't have before I argue that those with mental defects do.
The "stuff" you think doesn't mean anything is the stuff you live off of. Without it, we'd be dead. Take away your house, your food, your clothes, your friends and your neighbors. Take away your belongings and your most valued items. Take away everything and leave only the trees, grass, flowers, and everything else natural around you. Live like the cavemen did. Live like that now after you have had all of this. Could you live without your friends? Would you be happy to have no one to laugh with about what movie you saw last weekend or what you did the other night? Because that is a part of society and according to you, that means nothing. Could you live without the tasty food and salts or sweets and without your favorite juice or filtered water? Could you live without chocolate and without bread? Could you live without the stuff that tastes good willingly? Because that is what society has improved. They have taken the basic foods that we first discovered and made them better. They even discovered better food. But according to you, that means nothing. Could you live without your favorite music? Without the computer or without the TV? Could you live without the phone and other means of communication? Could you live without light at night? Those are things that society has invented but according to you...those mean nothing. Could you live in complete chaos and in war and in termination? Those are things a stable government keeps under control. Could you live without earning money, without work and without any income or way of earning a living? Those are things our government has developed to give people a chance at a decent life.
My point is...what this world runs on has been a process that improved on the basic standards of suriving. The evolution of life has brought us to where we are now. Yes, we make decisions...but we make decisions from what we have learned as a way of survival. We interact with others through our natural way of communicating such as animals communicate between each other. We have developed a way of living through what our species has naturally developed and our society has only made it more communicable and easier. Without our government, this country would be in complete chaos. We wouldn't have jobs or careers. We wouldn't have the things that keep us busy. We would be destroyed as a country and we would probably be speaking another language. But wait, if that isn't reality...no country would have organization and would also be in complete chaos. Therefore, this entire world would be in war and awful anarchy. We would destroy ourselves. The governements around the world interact (for the most part) for trade and for stable alliances. Importing and exporting has been a countinous thing and without government, we would not have nearly half the stuff we have now. Notice how many things are "Made in China"? lol.
That "stuff" IS reality because it is what our species has developed. We then make decisions from there but they are decisions we make as human beings. Therefore, it is real. This society is real and the way we survive is real because they are things that keep us alive and things that keep things in decent order...an order that allows us to decently interact with other civilizations. If all of that means nothing...then tell me what does? If what keeps us alive means nothing...perhaps we should all die because death would have to mean something, right? I believe in an afterlife...but that doesn't mean life means nothing because we were put on Earth for a reason (as least from what I believe) and since we are surviving decently and since our species has only grown since the dawn of time, we must be doing something right.
Everything we created is not useless because it's being used.

All the uses you mentioned those are all things to keep us busy, and no they're not technically useless, but they might not be able to help us in the bigger picture.
What is the bigger picture? I don't know. But I know that somethings that don't always make sense can make the most perfect sense in some way.

How do we know they aren't using what they know? Because if it was that important to society and that major of an undiscovered intelligence, it would be recognized in all of these studies and tests done on them to treat their illness. Heck, if it was that huge of a thing, it would be visable to us. I am not saying they don't have some crazy intelligence, because I don't know (I don't believe they do but I don't know) what I do know is they don't use it. The fact that proves it's useless.
Food, clothing, housing, friendships, family...they just keep us busy. Okay lol. That is your opinion. But that's life and that is what we live on. We need food to survive. Without it we die. That is human nature...that is surving. Food does more than "keep us busy".
Reality is what we live. It's what we breathe, think and feel. Reality is us. The bigger picture in what? Reality? If so...those things I mentioned ARE the bigger picture and "technically" becomes most definitely. BabyPiglet, I am not sure why you think we don't need food, clothes, houses, jobs, friends, light, water, or communication abilities, but I do know without a lot of those things, we would die and cease to exist. That is the cold hard reality of life. It is what is real...believe it or not.

It's philosophy that is what I am talking about. We humans are so scared of death we do everything to prevent it. Food is important in our life on this planet, right now. How do you know, for sure, that we would cease to exist? This is could be only the first stage of life, of us. I don't what your beliefs are but maybe just maybe these things are not everything.
