If you could rate the Howard Johnson on a scale from 1-5 (One being bad and five being GREAT) what would you rate it? This would help me greatly.

I rate it a 4 for what it is!! Not comparing it to the Grand or many others, but compared to hotels in the same price range etc, I give it a 4!! It loses one point for distance from the parks, other than that it is great!! The kids love the pool, I like the prices!! It's clean and comfy, and the gift shop there has pretty much anything I have ever needed. Plus I never have a problem finding parking like I do at other Harbor hotels!

I say a 5! We don't mind the walk and the freeway ( we live right by a major road so we are used to the sound of the cars always going by). It's always clean. My son and husband love the pool. We love the gift shop mainly for it's variety of snacks and alcohol.:rolleyes1 :drinking: Everyone there has always been nice to us.

Exact same opinion with nothing to add except: stay there, it's a great hotel.

I agree with above-probably a 4...maybe .10 off for no microwave ;)
It depnds on what you need too. I have young kids so the pool set-up with the baby pool was key for me and a big reason I chose it. I also had an awesome view for fireworks from our rm which was worth a lot to me.

If you upgrade to a premium room you get a microwave, but that's more money

I rate it a 4.
Not all premium rooms have microwaves. Only the Office rooms have them. They are in the premium category though, so they cost the same.
We always bring our own microwave and stay in Bldg. 2 facing the quiet pool. It's perfect for us.

I rate it a 4 as well. It's a great place to stay - clean, large rooms with mini-fridges, cheerful decor, great pools/hot tub, very nice employees, nice grounds, great little convenience store on site, nice arcade, and some rooms have balconies.
The only cons for this property - it's a little bit further of a walk, and at the end of a long day at the parks when your feet are killing you, that longer walk feels like an eternity (OUCH!); freeway noise can be an issue for some rooms; not all rooms have microwaves.

I'd say 3.5. It wasn't anything great for me, but was clean, had a convenient little fridge and an extra sink. We were not bothered by any freeway noise and the walk was just fine. I'd like to see some updated quilts.

3.5 for me as well. It was a clean place to crash after a day at the parks. I didn't think it was anything fantastic, but it was adequate.

DITTO and you have Mimi's right next door! That is a serious positive that could push it to a 5 in my book.

Does the gift shop sell bottled water and pop :confused3

Yes, but not really that much cheaper then DL. It sells mostly single bottles. You are better off having it delivered or picking it up at Target down the street!

Thanks Andrea! We are going without a car this time, so Target is not really a option on this trip. I really don't want to pack it Sounds like a possible mess.:lmao: Maybe I will buy a few bottles of water and then refill them. I am not that fond of California water but if I refill it and then put it in the refrigerator it doesn't seem as bad. Thanks for the response! Have a great day!

For a budget, off-site DL hotel, I say 4. We really enjoyed it. We had a nice view of the smaller pool and weren't facing the highway. I don't think I would have liked it if we had highway noise...but, we'd go back for sure for the right rate. We enjoyed the grounds and the pools, and the quick walk to DL (although there are closer hotels certainly, we didn't mind the walk).

I would give it either a 2 or a 3. I'll be honest I was not all that impressed with the HOJO.

That can work too! I cannot drink the tap water (here or in CA) but you can have the grocery store deliver stuff to your room and you would still save lots of money even though the delivery fee is $9.95!
