He arrives on Tuesday, He will be here for 2 weeks! And we leave for Disneyland on Sunday. The pictures look awesome! I took an old dragon calendar of his and framed them. They look like actual photos. Then I unpacked all his minature bottles from his collection. Looks really good in there now and will have more of a feel of his own room :) I can't wait to see him. I just wish my daughter wanted to come as well. But she says its to far from home.

Question...Do we embellish the items and send more embellishements...or do we leave the items plain and send the embellishments to use on them???
I need to gather all my materials this week so I can work on them at PRACS next weekend.

That was something I was thinking about earlier today as I was cleaning house..lol.. Then I went to previous swaps and I have seen them both ways. I think for me personally I like the ones from this swap, simple, elegant and not over the top..And they can be used for pretty much anything. So I would say they need some embellishment but nothing major.
http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=12232829&postcount=1
But then again I also figured I'd leave that up to each person to decide for themselves.
What do you all think?

Do I need to open any more Groups? We have one more spot in Group 6

Those were very nice indeed.
There is no need to use brads or eyelets just to added them. If they make your element look finished, than by all means use them. But if you are just trying to make the embellishments work, don't. That's my vote. :thumbsup2

I won't be online tomorrow either - if there is more interest and you end up opening another group I would certainly take another spot. No worries if not though.
Enjoy your son's visit and your trip to Disneyland!

I think fairly plain and elegant looks best - after all, people can always add more stuff if they feel the page needs it. Goody goody, time to go shopping for trimmings again....er...... ummm... I'll get on with planning! :guilty:
AlexWyattMommy
03-19-2007, 06:46 AM
I'd like to change daffodil to Wood (think shades of brown) please. I'll make the metal embellishment difficult to find, but I have this awesome parchment type paper that I'd like to use with textured brown. Thanks.

I plan on buying my papers by this weekend and to get my butt in gear!
Faerie
03-26-2007, 09:37 PM
Because I can't read directions before I go to the store, there are two ribbons in each - one that is a yard, as it's supposed to be, and then a smaller "bonus" ribbon that goes with something else :D

Goodie gum drops! :goodvibes
I ordered some paper and ribbon yesterday, but I ended up with so many different scrap stores open on my browser I forgot to get the brads :lmao: I kept changeing my mind - was it better to get packs of 10 eyelets in one colour or a bigger pack of mixed brads or eyelets etc etc :confused3
I think I'll wait til I get the paper and ribbon. Then I started wondering about how to do journalling boxes, as red can be quite dark if you don't have metallic pens (and can still be hard to read) - would a vellum overlay work, do you think? If I try to go too light a shade of red it will be too pink
rlovew
03-27-2007, 06:33 AM
I think a velum overlay or a lighter color in the center of the journaling box would work.
rebecca
AlexWyattMommy
03-27-2007, 06:43 AM
How about a vellum overlay that is attched with photo corners. This way it can be removed, put over lined paper for writing on and put back. AND if someone doesn't want to use at as a box, they can put a small photo on it.
Hey, that's a pretty good idea. Guess what one of my groups is going to have.bb:rotfl:

Actually, I did see some on one of the sites yesterday.....I wonder which one? Shaped brads are still pretty exotic for the UK you know! :rotfl:

I found a light red! I'd call it not-quite-tinned-tomato-soup-red :lmao: Looks better than it sounds! I'm a bit worried my photo mat colours are too similar, now I've cut and stuck them, so I'll have to use the embellishments for extra pizazz - I've got fantastic stripy ribbon, and as I ordered extra there's enough for the tags and might be some over to do something clever for the photo mats. All my brads are on the way, and some of them are sort of fancy, or I might add some texture somehow - maybe a flower in the corner or something (nothing overdone). Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm:confused3

Okay, I need to have clarification.
When we say colors, we don't just mean solids right?
I can use patterned paper as long the main/major colors are from the color I picked?

I tried to match up some patterned paper - that was my first idea - but they were all the wrong shades. :headache: How can I have SOOOOOO much paper and not find a match?:rotfl2: Anyway, I had an inspiration at 10.00 last night after cutting all the ribbons so I'm much happier now :goodvibes I'm going shopping today and suggested to DH that he might like to walk the boys over to the playground while I look in scrap shops :rolleyes1 so if I find something just right the red photo mats might be triple matted.

I have gotten more done today then going to a crop. No one here to talk to me about non related stuff. Ecept the every so often Spongebob updates.

Ladies
I just wanted to let you know that While I am away on my work trip next week DH will be checking the mail. I told him packages may or may not arrive while I am gone but to put them in a safe spot ( I will give him an empty box) and I will update if I can while I'm gone (I'm not taking the laptop this trip) If I can from work I will.

Of my 3 angel spots, I have to make tags for all of them and tags are my least favorite. Hence putting it off to the end. I have to cut my ribbon for all groups and then finish the journal boxes for a group. One of the groups I think I will ink around the edges to make it different and then I am do. Gee, seemed like I was closer to being finished than that when I started posting.

Did I tell you the story about the crop group that meets at the same I place I do but on a different night? We make 12x12 pages, 1 copy for each person and then swap them all. Anyway, that other group found out a person in their group was selling the pages on ebay. Whewwee, were they hot under the collar. Me, I wouldn't care. Once it's yours, it's yours to do what you want. But they were mad for a really long time.
MazdaUK
06-02-2007, 04:15 PM
I can see its a bit sensitive - if you choose to sell stuff the same as you make for a swap that's down to you- and swap recipients get good value ;) But taking stuff someone has laboured over in the spirit of community and making a PROFIT  I can see that would leave a sore taste in some places. If anyone gets good prices for anything I've made please tell me so i can make some more and sell it:rotfl:
DH has already been eyeing up my recipe swap binder and saying "I bet we'd get good money for that....." so I've hidden it:rotfl2: Its MY precioussssssss;)

If you can, request an MRI WITH the dye. There might be something going on with your blood vessels that won't be seen without the dye to help locate any problems. 'Course I will hope it is just a vitamin deficiency.
Glad that Hopemax is close enough to help you out if you need it. I'm pretty sure PN96 would travel to help me, but it would be a long drive.

Stitch#1 - Got yours today.
I went to the doc yesterday and she gave me a shot to see if it would help the migraine. It made me go to sleep I slept from the time I got home at 5pm until 5am this morning. Woke up. BAM! the headache was back.
So here I sit with my head feeling like someone has taken a sledge hammer to it. I can't take any other medications because she wants my system to be totally cleared of everything.
I can't drink anything other than Diet Caffeine free soda:drinking1, no salt popcorn:: and no chocolate:scared: zomg !:confused3 what am I going to do!:headache:
I have to fast tomorrow and go back in for blood work, also have to schedule a CT Scan.
The last couple of days at work I've been just ready to quit, 2 of the ladies are driving me insane. DH said i could just pack my desk and call it done. I don't know what to do..
Anyways enough about me. I will get this swapped out on Saturday with the help of the lovely and gracious Hopemax. I will mail most likely on Sunday so they will go out first thing Monday morning.

Sorry to hear about your migranes, hopefully the doctors can figure it out. So far it sounds like the cure might be worse than the disease. Hopefully, you won't suffer from any withdrawl symptoms. It's probably a good idea to get your system cleared out but I know when my Mom stops drinking pop, that's when she gets bad headaches from the withdrawl. If worse, comes to worse, you can lie down and I'll sort, while telling you all about my adventures in a quiet voice.

If anyone keeps coming anxiously to the thread hoping for pictures, it may be a couple days. We did get everything sorted and ready for mailing, minus a few boxes. But we did sacrifice picture taking to get the sorting all done. Our 110 degree heat made it uncomfortable for me at times to keep my head, you can imagine if you are fighting a migrane at the same time. So I told Kat to TAKE A NAP.
Everything is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS, though. I was very jealous since I wasn't even in the color swap. You will all be very excited you participated.

"hello ladies, first and foremost I want to send a huge THANK YOU to Hope for coming over today and helping me sort the 2 swaps. It was a GREAT task. The first swap took about 2 hours to sort and shuffle through, the colors swap took about an hour. She did most of it letting me sit there and not moving to much.
Second, another Super huge THANK YOU for all the goodies that you all sent to me, I felt like it was birthday. Everything was fabulous and I will use it all!
Thirdly, like Hope said It may take me a couple days to get the photo's done. I laid down after she left and am still in bed my migraine is back in full force and being that I can't take any medicine the only soothing thing right now is darkness. My husband said he'd help me get the pictures done tomorrow so I can upload them.
Last thing, you all did an amazing job with all of your elements. I am so excited to use it all. I hope to do this swap again as it is so much fun! I am equally impressed that everyone who signed up turned everything in and on time, I thank you for that.
I am going to post this same message over on the Surprise swap. I will mail either tomorrow or Monday at the latest.
