I've been researching Laptops and all Dell sell are Vistas now, so I wanted to know if it was any good. :)

Anyone have any clue what it's like??

Just got DW a laptop and have stuck with XP Media Centre edition. The laptop comes with a free Vista upgrade, but I think I will stick with XP until I upgrade my main home PC.

Vista looks very pretty, but I know people who have had compatibility problems with their existing software. Vista is also very heavy on CPU and memory resources. You need 1Gb of RAM at least, 2Gb is better!

I'm also more familiar with XP so thought it best to stay with it while setting up the home wireless networks etc.

I upgraded to Vista a couple of months ago and the only problem I have had is it does not recognise my TV tuner - which I rarely use anyway.

If it comes with what you are buying great, if not all you are missing is the pretty graphics.

Technically speaking there are a lot of new good things with Vista but if all your interested in is the standard Internet Explorer and playing games etc i would stick with XP. Vista is back compatible with most things and ive not had a problem with it at all but other people have.

If they come with Vista then i wouldnt worry too much about it - most PC's nowdays probably will be or will be soon enough. Any flaws should be fixed soon enough as they usually release a patch within a few months anyway!

Not very technical, sorry, but our new laptop came with Vista, and we have had a few problems with our existing software not being compatible.

When we activated our BT Broadband there was a special site for people with Vista and it all had to be done online, same with our Microsoft Word stuff. Only a few technical difficulties though, everything else fine with it, and it is quite clever and pretty. (Sorry, told you I wasn't technical!)
