View Full Version : Early August Code?

If the Free DPP is offered 8/26-September... what do you think the chances of Disney offering some sort of offer for the beginning of August.

Anyone heard any rumors?

Or have ideas of what might be offered?

:confused3

As far as I know, there hasn't been any early August codes for the past 2 years. We have a AAA room-only reservation, and that might be the best we get. I'm still hoping that something will come our way. A lot of people right after us have the 40% off or the free dining, which are great bargains. Unfortunately, WDW is crowded enough in early Aug. that they don't need to offer a code for that time as resorts are booked anyway.

We are heading down August 12th, which is the first day of "value" season, so I was hoping maybe something would come out for us :confused3

I hope something good, although, I'm thinking that if the dates for free dining are correct, disney must be feeling pretty confident that they don't need a good promo to book August up. :sad1:

I was so hoping for free dining. I can't justify paying for the plan when I know that I'll have to order and pay OOP for many of my kids meals since they won't like many of the options.

We were planning on doing 12 or 13 nights starting either Aug 5 or Aug 12. Now I don't know what to do. I'm seriously debating going offsite. We were planning on POR but I don't know if I want to pay the price to stay onsite when there are so many good deals for offsite hotels. We'll save on food staying offsite too since many hotels have free breakfast and we won't be paying for disney food on our non-park days.

I guess I have to do some more thinking and brainstorming to come up with our plan B. :sad1: :sad1: I'm so bummed.

If that 8/26 date is right, I am going to be heartbroken as that is the day we come home. We didn't receive the 40% discount offer.

The first day of Value season is the 5th - I'm booked for August 6-12, 2007 - I got the Value AAA Rate. I'm hoping that this year (since Value season started so early) - that their rates will include early August. IMO, it will only make sense - considering over the years the rates have included ALL of the Value season.

Bartleby1...I am in the same boat as you. I want to go early Aug and don't know whether to stay on...or off....or maybe split the time. I mentioned it to my family...and now we may be going from just 4 of us to possibly 8 maybe even 12! Wish I had gotten the 40% off it would have made life so much easier. I think I am now beyond Plan B and on to Plan Z. :rotfl: Good Luck...maybe we will see you there. :)

We're right there with you, Princess. Have flights and a few ADR's planned around an 8/25 departure date. Probably would have taken the 40% off (though not as good a deal as free DDP), except it wasn't offered to us. So, IF the rumored dates are correct, no WDW fix for us this summer. I do so envy those who are forced to choose between the 40% off and free DDP.

And just a head's up....Value season for deluxe and DVC resorts starts July 8 ! I'm going to wdw July 28-Aug 7.
I agree about it being unlikely that there will be free dining in early August. We've traveled during this time period since 2000 and never saw the promo during this time period. Last year, free dining began on Aug 13.

What do you consider early August?

I went ahead and booked today for Aug 11 - 18 at CBR, waterview and my total, with taxes, was $1260. I thought that was a value season price. :confused3 It works out to $180 / night including taxes.

OUCH! You can get a studio at OKW for $127nt (no taxes) by renting points
for 08/12-17/07. 2 queen beds (not full size) w/kitchenette.

54 points @ $12/pt= $648 total for 5 nights
you cant get free dining if offered with this though.

You're kidding me right? I had a friend look into that for me a few weeks ago, I'm clueless about all that point stuff, and they said it would be about the same as at CBR. I think I might be sick.

Nope, not kidding. We have done it before. I found someone who has approx. 2,000 points, he rents them out all the time....I just call him with the dates, he calls DVC and checks avail. Calls me back, I either take it or not.
If I take it he makes the ressie. with all my info. calls me back with a conf. number....I call DVC and verify it, then send him a check (he cant take a credit card).
Look at the points charts in the DVC forum. Note, that fri./sat. nights cost you twice as many points per night as Sun. through friday checkout..We do 5 nights with points then stay at a diff. resort if we want 7 nights...He currently charges the $12 pt...doesnt matter what resort.

I found him online (different site) and found out he lives about 35 miles from my town...I checked him out (I'm in law enf.), he owns several businesses there.....He has 6 young kids and has purchased each one of them a weeks worth of points to give them when they get married...(must be nice). In the meantime he rents the points to cover his maint. fee and makes about $8 pt. profit!!! But he still had the initial investment....avg. $15,000 /1 weeks points.
If you can send me a private message I can give you his info.
I dont want to post it without his permission.

Go to www.allearsnet.com and look at the DVC properties photos. OKW is the only one that has 2 queen beds in a studio, plus a larger bathroom than the mod. resorts. and the kitchenette works well for breakfasts. The other resorts have 1 queen and a sleeper in the studios...You wont have any say in your room location though....We have always been on a golf course at OKW.

MiaSRN62

You can also visit the DVC rent/trade board right here on DIS. I'm a DVC Member, but when I run out of points, I have rented from Members in the past :
http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=29

Try and choose a Member who has been on the DIS for awhile (check out their post count and even ask for a couple of references on the boards). When I first rented from a Member, they asked "me" for a referral because I was fairly new to the boards.

Good luck......OKW is the least expensive dvc rental because their point charts are lower, but you can find rentals at most DVC resorts for most times of the year.

You could ask the owner to make a request on your behalf. As OKW owners ourselves, I make the following requests : N/S and "water view". I've been very lucky thus far.

I'm thinking the same thing--there's going to be people who cancel or switch dates because of the free dining dates, and hopefully not many who will book under the ridiculous "15% lower room rates" non-deal promotion. It may not be released until June  , but I wouldn't be surprised to see something. If not, we'll just have to go without our WDW fix this summer.

August is very hot, but you can definitely get relief from the heat, there are plenty of AC options in the parks! Once, my daughter and I just rode the Tomorrowland tram(?) (former wedway people mover) over and over because we were so hot and tired!

We have a trip planned for 8/4-8/13. We have AAA rate. I just called to modify our reservation and I asked about a room only discount possibility since we're missing the free dining promotion. We went early August last year and FL is hot...but so is Philly so we're conditioned to it. In face, Philly was smack in the middle of a heat wave last year the week we went and when we got to FL, it was cooler ! We left 98-101 degrees and landed to 88-92 degrees. Alot of the CM's were joking about it. I was in line at the OKW general store and behind a couple from Chicago who also said it was hotter and more humid there that week.

Philly also tends to be quite humid in July and August so, like I said...we're pretty conditioned to it. Drink lots of water ! Try and do your park visiting from 8 am to noon. Then go back to the room for a rest and come back after 5 pm. It's definitely doable.

That's what I'm thinking too. Many people will cancel the early Aug to book the free dining. The good thing is that the last few early Augusts have been "light" or mid-crowds, but not heavy. I would be shocked if we didn't get something during early August. If the crowds were like last year - we are going to have sooooooooo much fun, with little wait.

I'm thinking crowds won't be too bad either. (I'm going 8/20 to 8/30). I've been trying not to get too depressed about free DDP as I was at WDW during the bounceback program but never heard about it. SO...now I'm telling myself I've already received a discount because Disney started the value season for values and moderates so much earlier this year and I am booked with AAA discount. That way if there is a discount I'll be  and if they don't I won't be too depressed again.;)

Last year the AP discount for my trip in August was not released until June!! It was a very long wait. I booked my trip a few months ago though. I have an AWESOME online travel agent who will switch my reservation automatically if and when it is released so I'm not worried about getting it in time.
